This page lists all acts that have supported Depeche Mode throughout the years. As the table of contents shows, this page does not only contain a table of all the support acts having opened for Depeche Mode, but it also lists the shows where Depeche Mode supported another act, festival line-ups, support acts for cancelled concerts, cancelled support acts, and rumours and uncertainties about acts allegedly having supported DM as well. Here is a list of concerts without support acts .
While a lot of time and research has been put into this page, it is always possible that there may be one or two errors here and there. If you notice an error, or you have more info to add, please contact us .
List of support acts for Depeche Mode
There are some uncertainties about Depeche Mode's support acts Portion Control and Matt Fretton. It seems unlikely that Matt Fretton supported DM's 5-day tour in Spain and Italy in March 1984 , but there is no conclusive evidence. Matt also said in this interview that he left during the European tour in fall 1984 to edit his setlist at Hansa Studios in Berlin, which would mean that he would have been unable to support DM for one or more dates. In the same interview, he also says that he first supported DM in London in 1982, replacing Blancmange, before he became their main support act in fall 1982 , which could mean that he supported DM either on 1982-02-13 Hammersmith Odeon, London, England, UK and/or on 1982-02-28 Hammersmith Odeon, London, England, UK , assuming his memory was right. Portion Control have stated on their Wikipedia that they have supported Depeche Mode "on their UK and European tour". However, there is no concrete evidence that they went on a European tour with DM.
The table is sortable according to chronological or alphabetical order, so click on the arrows in the first two columns to rearrange them.
Dates with Depeche Mode as the support act
Depeche Mode never liked being the support act. Dave Gahan said in the November 1981 issue of Sounds, "When we used to support, we got treated so bad. Especially at certain places in London, which I won’t mention. They tread all over you, and to the PA blokes, you’re nothing. It’s always ‘Where’s the support?’ They won’t even mention your name. Now we are the headliners – they love us. We’re playing two nights at the Lyceum – so we are the big band now!"

Dates which definitely did not have support acts
It is possible that with some of the first concerts outside of DM's "home base" in 1980-1983 (first outside of Essex, later outside of the UK), there were no support acts, since no evidence regarding a support act for some dates in that era/region can be found. For the dates below, fans who have attended these concerts have alleged that there were no support acts. For dates surrounding the dates mentioned below, such as March 1982, March 1984, and July 1985, it is possible that those other concerts did not have support acts either, but there is no conclusive evidence for these. If you have attended an early concert of Depeche Mode and it is not listed below but you remember that there was no support act, please contact us . Moreover, there was no real support act for 2006-06-26 The Point, Dublin, Ireland but there was a DJ who played some songs. If anyone remembers the name of this DJ, please contact us.
A total of 44 concerts have had no support act.

Rumours and uncertainties about bands having supported DM
- Blue Zoo (first known as Modern Jazz) state to have supported DM at Crocs in 1980 or 1981, but no precise date is known.
- DATA is rumoured to have supported DM. There were three occasions ( 1981-02-14 and 1981-05-12 ) where Depeche Mode played along a band called ' Shock '. One of its members was Tim Dry . Tim was eventually also in another band, 'Noir', with Georg Kajanus . Georg created a band called ' DATA '. Aside from this indirect link, there is no evidence that DATA has been a support act for DM.
- Sugarcubes supported New Order in 1989 (alongside PiL ). New Order member Bernard Sumner formed Electronic a year later, who then supported Depeche Mode at Dodgers Stadium in 1990. There is a rumour that The Sugarcubes supported Depeche Mode but it could be that some people are just confusing NO with DM.
- Shelleyan Orphan toured with The Cure in 1989, and there is the rumour that they performed for DM as well.
- Many fansites have copied a list of alleged support acts, one of them being "Tropical Deperettion" which would have performed in the Philippines. It is most likely that Filipino reggae band Tropical Depression is actually meant by this. Howover, no further evidence is found. Instead it is found that Filipino band The Rizal Underground had opened for DM, at least on the second Manila night . As a sidenote, the sheet from the rider for these gigs show that DM did not bring a support act with them to the Philippines.
- Veruca Salt are rumoured to have supported DM on the Devotional tour in Salt Lake City . As a sidenote, Veruca Salt did contribute a cover of Somebody on the For The Masses cover album in 1998.
- On DM-related message boards, a band called "Auto De Fee" is rumoured to have supported DM. A Google search tells us that this could only be the band Auto Da Fé , an Irish New Wave band. However, there is no actual evidence for this.
Bands that have denied rumours about having supported DM
- The Monochrome Set is rumoured to have supported DM but a person who works for the band denies that they have opened for the band here .
- In Simon Spence's biography on Depeche Mode, he mentions Furniture as having supported DM but band member Jim Irvin denies it here .
- George Clinton supported Primal Scream many times in 1993, and Primal Scream supported DM in 1994, so there is a rumour that George Clinton also supported DM in Columbia in 1994 . However, Primal Scream band member Denise Johnson denies it here .
List of support acts for Dave Gahan
In 2003, Dave Gahan went on an extensive tour through Europe and USA. Besides playing at many festivals, he also took several support acts with him on tour. The brief tour for Soulsavers' album release 'Imposter' also featured one support act
Festivals where Dave Gahan played
Dave Gahan was never the closing act for any of these festival dates. It is not sure if Dave Gahan shared the same stage (assuming there was more than one stage) with the headline acts at all these festivals.
- 2003-06-07 Rock am Ring Festival, Nurburgring, Germany : Audioslave , Evanescence , Placebo , Metallica
- 2003-06-08 Rock im Park Festival, Nuremburg, Germany : Audioslave , Evanescence , Placebo , Metallica

Depeche Mode Announce 29 Additional North American Dates on the Memento Mori World Tour
New Fall Shows Added in the US, Canada and Mexico
Depeche mode’s first tour in over five years kicks off march 23, 2023 in sacramento, ca.
Following the rapturous reception to their new single “Ghosts Again,” Depeche Mode have added a new Fall leg of North American tour dates to the Memento Mori Tour, which will support Memento Mori, their forthcoming studio album due out March 24. With the addition of these 29 new shows, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2020 inductees will now set out on a colossal 75-date tour — their 19th tour and their first in over five years.
The Live Nation-presented tour begins March 23 with a limited North American run featuring stops at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Chicago’s United Center, and Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena. The band will then embark on their European stadium tour on May 16, with noted stops including the Stade de France in Paris, Berlin’s Olympic Stadium, Milan’s San Siro Stadium, and London’s Twickenham Stadium.
Following the end of the European summer run, the newly added tour dates bring the band back to North America in the Fall, with the tour stopping in Mexico City at Foro Sol before returning to the US and Canada. Newly announced tour stops include Austin’s Moody Center, Vancouver’s Rogers Arena, additional New York City shows at Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center, Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena and more, and concluding with a multi-night run in Los Angeles at the Kia Forum and Crypto.com Arena.
Pre-sales will kick off with a Fan Pre-sale on Tuesday, February 21, with the general on sale beginning Friday, February 24 at 10am local time. For further information on the tour routing and ticket on-sale dates, please visit depechemode.com . The full listing of dates, cities and venues is also below. On the Memento Mori Tour, the band will once again be partnering with luxury watchmaker Hublot to support charity endeavors tied to the tour.
Reception to the Memento Mori tour has been overwhelming with shows quickly selling out across Europe and North America, and over 1.5 million tickets already sold for the initial 46 shows. The tour is on track to be one of Depeche Mode’s largest to date and is also well on its way to being one of the largest worldwide tours of 2023. The tour will feature Depeche Mode favorites and rarities, alongside new songs from Memento Mori, including the new single ”Ghosts Again,” which has been heralded as “a melancholic and joyful ode” (Vulture), “hypnotic” (Rolling Stone), and “a gorgeous, haunting song” (Revolver). The beautifully stark and cinematic Anton Corbijn-directed video for “Ghosts Again” released on February 9th can be viewed at https://depechemode.lnk.to/GhostsAgain .
Having sold more than 100 million records and played to more than 35 million fans worldwide, Depeche Mode remains an ever-evolving and singularly influential musical force. An indelible inspiration to fans, critics and artists alike, Depeche Mode continues to forge ahead, with the Memento Mori album and tour representing the opening of the newest chapter of a peerless and ongoing legacy.

Depeche Mode Expand 2023 North American Tour
By Jazz Monroe
Depeche Mode have added a new haul of shows to the North American tour that begins next month. The extra dates kick off in Mexico in late summer and run through to mid-December, with stops in most major cities on the coasts and a few in between. See their full tour schedule below.
The tour, which includes a spot at Primavera 2023 , promotes new album Memento Mori , out March 24 via Columbia . It is the band’s first album in five years, and the first since the death last year of founding member Andy “Fletch” Fletcher. “Fletch would have loved this album,” Dave Gahan said in press materials. “We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can’t wait to present it to you live at the shows next year.” Memento Mori follows Depeche Mode’s 2017 LP, Spirit . A single from the record, “ Ghosts Again ,” is out now.

Depeche Mode staged a black celebration Wednesday at a sold-out United Center. Performing its first tour as a duo after the death of cofounding member Andrew Fletcher in May 2022, the British band explored themes of loss, desire and control in a two-hour show that also offered guidance for getting through today’s uncertain world.
Given recent circumstances and the solemn aura of its new “Memento Mori” album, it would’ve been understandable if Dave Gahan and Martin Gore were more downcast. Far from it. Despite many of their songs’ heavy subject matter and brooding arrangements, Depeche Mode found solace, let loose and had fun — sensations that have not always come easy for the band.
Time continues to prove Depeche Mode one of the most influential and visionary groups in pop-music history, a legacy that seemed unlikely during its first decade on the fringe. The band embraced and shaped electronic music long before technology exploded the style’s popularity, and the dark motifs and bleak moods of its music had an outsized impact on goth, industrial, metal and rock scenes — not to mention Chicago’s own Wax Trax! Records subculture.
Remarkably, Depeche Mode never stopped looking ahead. Since forming in the early ’80s, it has stayed relevant through the kind of innovation usually associated with younger acts. The collective managed to do so, and stick together, while navigating the sort of inner turmoil — drug and alcohol addictions, suicide attempts, membership changes — that caused many of its peers to dissolve. There have been subpar records and solo projects, extended breaks and personal drama. Yet the group refused to bend to nostalgia or engage autopilot.
The ensemble that held court at the West Side arena on Wednesday — Depeche Mode returns to United Center on Nov. 13 — bore no resemblance to a band whose best days happened years ago, or whose sights were fixed on revisiting past glories at a cushy Las Vegas residency. Accompanied by veteran tour mates Peter Gordeno (synthesizers, bass) and Christian Eigner (drums), Gahan and Gore played with a passion, focus and spirit that suggested they knew their history was still being written.
Offsetting his elegant all-black apparel with white dress shoes, the svelte Gahan and his head of slicked-back hair looked ready for a long night of clubbing. The extroverted singer practically dared everyone to keep up with his moves and tireless energy. He struck poses, showed off flexible hamstrings with fingers-touch-floor bends, wiggled his butt and solicited crowd reactions by stretching his arms akin to a conductor. And he came to dance. Twirling, gliding, prancing and bouncing on the balls of his feet, Gahan transformed into a ballerina in a music box, albeit one with unlimited freedom.
Depeche Mode’s diverse fare chased after similar liberation. With the wounds of the pandemic and Fletcher’s death still fresh, several newer tunes came to terms with mortality. Sung by Gore, “Soul with Me” discovered beauty and calm in its inevitability. Framed by a black-and-white video that referenced the chess-playing scene in the 1957 film “The Seventh Seal,” the fluttering “Ghosts Again” said its goodbyes and left open the possibility that everyone meets again in an afterlife.
Other songs rubbed up against a tougher subject: the here and now. The grinding, ominous build of “My Cosmos is Mine” and soft texture of “Wagging Tongue” were varied in their sonic approaches, yet joined in cautionary messages of reclamation, ownership and resolve. Grounded by pulsing undercurrents, “Walking in My Shoes” (during which a clever Gahan adjusted his pants and displayed his footwear) took a stand against snap judgment. Hypocrisy also fueled the rave-up “John the Revelator” and a bare-bones rendition of the sorrowful ballad “Condemnation.”
Deception, insincerity, censorship, obsessiveness, excess, desperation: Many of the topics Depeche Mode covered seemed tailor-made for our times. Splitting attention between keyboards and guitar, Gore teamed with Gordeno to frame songs with sleek hybrid structures that underlined tensions and pointed a way forward.
Depeche Mode channeled joy on the gospel-tinged plea “Speak to Me,” ping-ponging declaration “I Feel You” and peppy synth-pop anthem “Just Can’t Get Enough.” The smooth, sensual “World in My Eyes” came across as an homage to Fletcher. As the concert unfolded, Gore cracked smiles; Gahan yelped, shouted encouraging commands to the band and paraded about with a mix of sexuality and sophistication in line with the music.
Belying a mechanical exterior, “Stripped” located clarity and truth amid a natural landscape free of urban cacophony and televised distractions. Its sage messages — dating back to the 1986 LP “Black Celebration” — sparked with added resonance in an age of social media, artificial intelligence and environmental ruin. Likewise, the stately “Enjoy the Silence.” Words were very unnecessary.

Depeche Mode review – to the newly minted power of two
The O2, London On the latest leg of their first tour after the death of founding member Andrew Fletcher, fellow Depeche Mode mainstays Dave Gahan and Martin Gore reward fans with hits from across the decades – and seem closer than they’ve been in years
A triumphal arch dominates the stage set of Depeche Mode’s tour . The giant M stands for Memento Mori – the title of their 2023 album, widely hailed as a return to form. But that monumental M is also for Mode. Two years ago they were a band under existential threat, when founder member and keyboard player Andrew Fletcher died of heart failure. Eye-wideningly, much of the latest album’s concern with death had already been established by chief songwriter Martin Gore some time before Fletcher’s passing.
Now, Depeche Mode are on their second year of a tour of the world’s stages, pummelling audiences with caustic earworms about our flawed human nature once more. On night one of leg four, they seize their day with vigour. Singer Dave Gahan, in fine voice, often spins around on the spot, his emphatic shirt cuffs recalling the Damned’s Dave Vanian’s, but with a far more salubrious couturier.
Comfortingly mohicaned, Gore also sports his customary black nail varnish and swaps between keyboards and a low-slung semi-acoustic. Also on stage are keys player Peter Gordeno and drummer Christian Eigner, the latter perhaps a little too keen on stadium rock fills. It takes a while for an actual memento mori – a reminder that death comes to all – to appear. But giant projections of skulls covered with glitter ( pace Damien Hirst ) spin around during Enjoy the Silence from 1990’s Violator album, daubed with the word “enjoy”.
Better than the heavy symbolism, though, is the song’s unexpected progression tonight from a tune that recalls New Order to house piano rave breakdown, one that could have gone on for far longer. The visuals for the magnificent Everything Counts , meanwhile, elegantly enhance the song’s anti-greed message. A video of a mime with gloved white hands enacts the lyrics, like an arty sign language interpreter.
The two hours of Mode music that plays out on the Greenwich peninsula, just 30 miles from the band’s native Basildon, rewards fans with a retrospective from across the band’s eras, from start to end. In with the new: the song Ghosts Again may have taken top billing as Memento Mori’s calling card, but tonight the machine hydraulics of set opener My Cosmos Is Mine and the clean lines of My Favourite Stranger stand prouder.
Depeche Mode go out with the old too. “Are you ready to have a bit of fun?” asks Gahan in the encore. It’s a prelude to 1981’s Just Can’t Get Enough , a holdover from the long-ago Vince Clarke era, rendered as glorious synth-pop with added polyrhythms. The US, where the band reinvented themselves as glowering electronic rock beasts, may not remember them when they were Spandau Ballet with a dungeon in their basement, but SE10 clearly does.
What we are witnessing, though, besides an assured greatest hits set, is a kind of rock Jenga in real time. What happens when you knock a support out from under a structure? The remaining struts either take the load – or don’t. In other words: construction time again. It has been a hallmark of this album campaign that the pact to continue has brought Gore and Gahan closer together after decades of arm’s length diplomacy, often with Fletcher as middleman.
Gore was the band’s sole songwriter between the 1981 departure of founder member Clarke and the 2005 détente that marked Gahan’s increased creative input to the band. Tensions between Depeche Mode’s two most valuable players (who live on opposite coasts of the US) had contributed to the departure of Alan Wilder in 1995. A former dependency on alcohol (Gore) and heroin (Gahan) had not helped matters either; neither did Gahan’s multiple brushes with death .
The newly minted power of two is borne out tonight by the affection and bonhomie the survivors show each other. There are broad smiles and praise from Gahan for Gore’s “beautiful, angelic tones” after a couple of Gore-fronted numbers; backslaps throughout and hugs at the end. Fletcher is remembered – as a giant, subtly morphing black and white image – when the band play World in My Eyes , his favourite Depeche Mode song.
That big proscenium M could stand for Martin as well. Gore downs tools to sing a moving, pared-back rendition of 1987’s Strangelove , accompanied only by Gordeno. He follows it up with Heaven , a 2013 song that faintly recalls Portishead’s Glory Box . Both provide some breathing space from Default Mode: the thunderous sulks about relationships, religion and vice.
If their set closer, Personal Jesus , covers that middle ground, two other canon highlights hold up the ends. Never Let Me Down Again is a compelling portrait of dependence that leads to a bout of manic arm waving from the crowd. Most assured of all, though, is I Feel You , from 1993’s Songs of Faith and Devotion – an unrelenting love track that swings at the same time. More than any other tune, new or old tonight, it captures Depeche Mode’s enduring lust for life.

Depeche Mode Returns With ‘Memento Mori’ Album, World Tour
The legendary band, now a duo, says some of their new songs "can't help but reflect" the absence of longtime member Andy Fletcher.
By Robert Levine
Robert Levine
BERLIN — Depeche Mode will return next year with a new album, Memento Mori , and a tour that’ll launch with 10 North America arena dates, followed by more than two dozen summer stadium shows in Europe. At a press conference at the Berliner Ensemble on Tuesday (Oct. 4), band members Dave Gahan and Martin Gore said that they started working on songs during the pandemic, and that they decided to continue as an act after keyboard player and co-founder Andy Fletcher died in May .
Trending on Billboard
The album isn’t completely done – recording is finished but the songs aren’t yet mixed – and Gahan and Gore said their next stop is New York, to wrap it up. It is due out around the time the tour begins.
5 Questions With Depeche Mode Ahead of Their Rock Hall Induction in 2020
At least one of the themes seems to be death – or at least the finiteness of life – as reflected by the title. “‘Memento Mori’ means ‘remember, you must die,'” Gahan said. So, Gore followed, “live each day to the max.”
In the studio, the two missed Fletcher. “We would miss Fletch,” Gahan says, “and some of these songs can’t help but reflect that.”
One of the first questions from the enthusiastic audience of journalists, associates and at least a few super-fans concerned existential issues. Then another journalist asked if the band might do some unplugged shows. After some nervous giggles in the audience, Gahan pointed out that “we can’t really unplug because we’re an electronic band.”
Everyone laughed.
“We could,” Gore added, “try battery packs.”

Once again, yet another band tells Atlanta to go fuck itself. Happens so much, I’m not even shocked anymore.
Pre-announcement rumored Atlanta date was Oct 16th at State Farm Arena. No idea why it didn’t materialize.
Just added today, October 15

Sänger Dave Gahan (61) verabschiedet sich normalerweise immer mit den Worten „See you next Time“ vom Publikum. Am Montag sagte er nur: „Good Night. Thank you“.

Depeche Mode announce support acts for 2023 European tour
The European leg of the tour will kick off next month
Depeche Mode have announced the acts that will be joining them as support on their upcoming ‘Memento Mori’ tour.
- READ MORE: Depeche Mode: “Do the best you can – you don’t know if you’re going to be doing it again”
Announced today (April 12), the band – which is comprised of Martin Gore and Dave Gahan – shared the five acts that will be joining them for their string of tour dates across the continent and the UK later this year.
The update was shared on Instagram, where the iconic duo announced that Cold Cave and Young Fathers would be among the names joining them throughout their 34 upcoming shows.
Other newly-announced artists joining them include Berlin-based band Hope, former Savages singer turned solo star Jehnny Beth and British trip-hop band Haelos.
The European leg of the tour kicks off next month with two performances in the Netherlands, taking place on May 16 and May 18. From there, Depeche Mode will play a series of performances in countries including Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, the UK and Austria, before ending in Norway on August 11.

The upcoming tour dates are in support of band’s 15th studio album, ‘Memento Mori’ , which was released last month.
Speaking with NME , Gore previously shared his appreciation for the Scottish trio, Young Fathers, who will be joining them on tour.
“I’ve been having to listen to a lot of stuff for remixes and support artists lately,” he said. “A band I thought were very unique were Young Fathers. I’ve been listening to their albums and watching live performances, and they’re just so different to everything else.”
Discussing the new LP last month, members Gore and Gahan also reflected on the passing of synth player and founding member Andy Fletcher back in May 2022, and told NME about their determination to support the next generation of artists .
“It’s a ‘get up and do it yourself’ spirit,” Gahan told NME of what inspires their continuously renewed appeal for new generations of acts. “Do it your way and don’t be told how to. Eventually it will work out for you.”
They also spoke of their appreciation for Welsh electronica artist Kelly Lee Owens – a former NME cover star who the band personally chose as a supporting artist on their US tour dates.
“We were given a massive list of potential support acts; some of them I knew, like Kelly Lee Owens who I actually really liked, and we decided she’d be a perfect fit,” said Gore. “What she does is very atmospheric and it never seems like there’s only one person playing – she really puts her soul into it.”
