Cea mai tare experienta din studentie!

WORK AND TRAVEL SUA – ÎNTREBĂRI FRECVENTE

1. conditii de participare în programul work & travel usa, e nevoie sa fiu student ca sa pot participa la program.

• Trebuie sa fii student, masterand sau doctorand la zi, la o facultate acreditata de stat. In acelasi timp, ca sa poti participa in programul Work & Travel USA e nevoie sa ai pana in 30 de ani si sa vorbesti limba engleza cel putin la nivel conversational.

Pot sa ma inscriu chiar daca nu sunt student in Romania?

• Da, poti participa si daca esti student intr-o alta tara.

Care e data limita pentru inscriere?

• Te poti inscrie in program atat timp cat sunt locuri disponibile. Din experienta, iti spunem ca cel mai probabil in luna martie vom avea 100% locurile ocupate. Asa ca ideal este sa nu amani decizia, daca vara asta vrei sa te bucuri de experienta in State. In plus, daca te inscrii din timp ai mai multe optiuni: poti alege destinatia si jobul pe care il vei avea pe vara.

De ce sa plec cu voi?

• American Experience este cea mai mare agentie de Work and Travel din Romania, cu o experienta de 17 ani pe piata. Asta inseamna ca programul nu mai are niciun secret pentru noi si ne vom asigura ca vei avea parte de cele mai bune servicii in USA. Foarte important: avem birouri in aproape toate centrele universitatre din Romania si 2 birouri ce vor functiona pe perioada verii USA. Avem cea mai variata gama de joburi si destinatii unde poti merge, iar in momentul in care optezi pentru o anumita destinatie, garantam ca vei ajunge exact unde iti doresti.

Am nevoie de un nivel avansat de engleza?

• Nivelul de engleza este important, si determina daca poti participa in program sau nu. Daca nu vorbesti engleza la nivel conversational bun, nu o sa poti aplica pentru joburi front of the house, care presupun sa comunici cu clientii.

Care sunt avantajele programului?

• Pe scurt: o sa traiesti “Cea mai tare experienta din Studentie” :). Timp de 3 luni si jumatate o sa locuiesti peste Ocean, o sa ai un job, pentru care vei fi platit in $, o sa cunosti oameni din toate colturile lumii si o sa vizitezi locurile la care visezi de cand erai mic.

Cum este impartit programul Work & Travel?

• Vei putea petrece in USA 4,5 luni in total, impartite astfel: 3,5 luni dedicate programului de lucru (15 iunie – 30 septembrie: WORK) si 1 luna intreaga ca sa calatoresti (30 septembrie – 30 octombrie: TRAVEL). Asta inseamna ca ai drept de munca pe teritoriul american pana pe 30 septembrie si drept legal de sedere (fara drept de munca) pana pe 30 octombrie.

Pot sa merg impreuna cu prietenii mei, chiar daca nu sunt din acelasi oras cu mine?

• Da, poti sa mergi impreuna cu prietenii tai, indiferent ca sunteti sau nu studenti in acelasi oras/tara. La AMERICAN EXPERIENCE te putem ajuta indiferent cat de mare este grupul tau de prieteni.

Cand ar trebui sa plec in State?

• Programul se desfasoara pe perioada verii si vei ramane in State pana maximum pe 30 Octombrie. Data de plecare pentru tine este stabilita in functie de jobul pe care ti-l alegi. De obicei, studentii pleaca in USA cu 2-3 zile inainte sa inceapa jobul.

Ce sanse sunt sa iau viza?

• In ultimii ani, aproximativ 98% dintre studentii ce aplica la program au reusit sa primeasca viza. Pentru ca si tu sa fii parte din acest procent, va fi nevoie sa te descurci la un nivel conversational in limba engleza, sa zambesti si sa ai o conversatie sincera si deschisa cu Ofiterul Consular.

Cand o sa merg la viza?

• Interviurile de viza incep la sfarsitul lunii februarie – inceput de martie. Fiecare student este programat in functie de cat de repede sunt gata formularele necesare pentru interviul de viza.

Pot sa schimb jobul si cazarea dupa ce ajung in State?

• In mod normal nu, pentru ca formularele de viza sunt emise pe baza jobului pe care l-ai ales din tara. E bine sa stii si ca angajatorul din State va bloca postul pentru tine si nu va angaja pe altcineva. Totusi, daca exista motive intemeiate pentru care vrei sa-ti schimbi jobul, te vei consulta in prealabil cu Sponsorul de viza si cu noi, legat de acest lucru si impreuna o sa incercam sa gasim o solutie.

Cate ore voi munci pe saptamana?

• Minimul garantat de fiecare angajator o sa fie o medie de 32 ore pe saptamana. Este posibil ca in functie de cum te descurci sau cat de aglomerata o sa fie statiunea, sa fie saptamani in care sa primesti mai putine ore de lucru si saptamani in care o sa primesti mai multe.

Care este perioada in care pot sa muncesc in USA?

• Cel mai devreme poti sa incepi munca pe 15 iunie, insa data de inceput depinde de disponibilitatea ta si a angajatorului. Poti sa lucrezi maximum pana pe 30 septembrie.

Cum imi aleg un job?

• In functie de perioada in care te inscrii in program, iti punem la dispozitie o lista de angajatori si joburi care se potrivesc optiunilor tale (loc, tip de job, grup de prieteni). Dintre acestea, vei alege cu cine urmeaza sa sustii un interviu pentru confirmare. Daca totul merge ok, vei primi o oferta de munca. Daca insa nu indeplinesti conditiile angajatorului, atunci revii la prima etapa si te orientazi spre un alt job, fie cu aceleasi optiuni, fie cu unele noi (in functie de preferintele tale).

Ce tipuri de joburi sunt in program?

• Toate joburile sunt sezoniere. Poti lucra in hoteluri, restaurante, magazine, parcuri de distractii. Nu ai nevoie de experienta, insa in functie de nivelul de engleza poti sa lucrezi “front of the house”, adica direct cu clientii, sau “back of the house” unde esti parte a echipei de lucru, fara sa intri in contact cu clientii.

Cum o sa fie interviul pentru job? E greu? Poate sa ma refuze angajatorul?

• Interviurile de obicei sunt formale. Angajatorul vrea sa te cunoasca si sa-ti prezinte indatoririle de la viitorul job. O sa fie nevoie sa vorbesti putin despre tine, despre ce asteptari ai si ce te-a facut sa alegi respectivul job. In foarte putine dintre situatii poti fi refuzat: in cazul in care nivelul tau de engleza nu este suficient de avansat pentru job sau daca nu esti disponibil sa ajungi la job la data pe care si-o doreste angajatorul. Nu in ultimul rand, trebuie sa stii ca majoritatea interviurilor sunt online (pe Skype sau Facebook), dar exista si cativa angajatori care vin in Romania la targuri de joburi.

Cum imi gasesc un second job?

• Odata ce ai ajuns in SUA si dupa ce ti-ai stabilit programul de la primul job, poti incepe sa cauti un 2nd job. Majoritatea studentilor intreaba managerii sau patronii din zona unde sunt, daca au nevoie de extra ajutor. In alte situatii se poate merge pe recomandari, adica un coleg de la cazare sa-ti intermedieze angajarea la locul lui de munca. Se intampla si ca managerul/patronul companiei la care lucrezi sa te angajeze pe un alt post in cadrul unui alt business pe care il are.

Care sunt cele mai bune joburi?

• Nu exista o lista de joburi bune sau mai putin bune. In general, studentii cu un nivel de engleza ridicat, dornici sa interactioneze cu clientii, se orienteaza spre joburile cu tips (bacsis). Altfel, daca esti la un nivel intermediar cu engleza te poti orienta spre business-uri din locatii populare, in randul studentilor.

Cati bani o sa castig?

• Trebuie sa stii ca in USA esti platit pe ora. Asta inseamna ca daca lucrezi mai mult, castigi mai mult. Cei mai multi studenti castiga peste 10.000$, insa suma castigurilor difera de la o persoana la alta.

Pot sa calatoresc si in perioada de “work”?

• Categoric da, si chiar te indemnam sa calatoresti cat de mult ai ocazia. De obicei in perioada de “work” vei avea in general 1-2 zile libere pe saptamana, ca sa mergi la plaja sau sa faci hiking pe munte ori sa calatoresti intr-un oras mai mare, care e in apropierea ta.

Pot sa calatoresc si in afara USA in perioada de travel?

• Daca alegi sa calatoresti in afara spatiului american, nu vei mai putea sa te reintorci pe teritoriul USA. Perioada de traveling este destinata exclusiv pentru calatorii pe teritoriul USA. Odata ce iesi din acest spatiu, in perioada de traveling, nu vei mai putea reintra inapoi, intrucat ofiterii de la granita iti vor cere pasaportul cu viza si permisul de munca DS-2019. Iar permisul de munca iti va fi deja expirat in perioada de traveling.

Daca totusi te gandesti sa calatoresti in afara USA in perioada de traveling, va trebui sa iti faci planul in avans astfel incat la finalul vacantei sa te intorci direct spre Europa, fara a mai fi nevoit sa treci prin State.

Sunt obligat sa imi iau biletul de avion prin intermediul vostru?

• Da, insa ce o sa se intample este ca te vom pune in legatura cu o agentie de ticketing si tu iti alegi datele de plecare si intoarcere, compania de zbor si cu cine vrei sa calatoresti. Noi doar supervizam procesul de achizitie al biletului de avion si ne asiguram ca ajungi si te intorci la timp din USA.

COSTURI PROGRAM – variază în funcție de opțiunile alese între 1200$ și 1500$

TAXA CONSULARÃ – 160 $ – Se plãtește în RON cu câteva zile înainte de a susține interviul pentru vizã, conform indicațiilor coordonatorului tãu.

BILETUL DE AVION – de la 750 € – De regulã, îl iei în mai – iunie, dar poți și mai devreme. În funcție de destinație și datele de zbor, costul biletului poate depăși 1000€.

BANI DE CHELTUIALÃ – 700 – 1000 $ – Pentru a te descurca în primele sãptãmâni când ajungi și înainte de a primi primul salariu.

Primesc banii inapoi daca ma retrag din program inainte de interviul de viza?

• Daca te retragi inainte sa sustii interviul la Ambasada, trebuie sa stii ca prima transa platita nu o poti recupera iar in cazul in care ti s-a emis deja DS – 2019, se retin 450$. Aceasta acopera costurile administrative, ce presupun procesarea dosarului tau imediat dupa inscriere: verificarea documentelor, trimiterea acestora catre partenerii din SUA, alegerea unui job, eliberarea unei oferte de munca.

Cum este cazarea? Cat costa?

• In general conditiile de cazare sunt asemanatoare celor de camin, adica vei imparti camera cu 2, 3 sau 4 persoane. Cazarea difera insa in functie de zona in care vei merge. Mai multe detalii gasesti in descrierea care insoteste oferta de munca, atunci cand alegi un job.

E posibil să ajungi și tu în state.

Dacă cineva mi-ar fi spus acum 2-3 ani, că eu am să merg în Statele Unite probabil i-aș fi râs în față crezând că e o glumă. Știam cât de greu se obține viza, știam cât de scumpă și diferită e viața aici, știam cât de departe de casă este, știam că e… imposibil. Însă iată-mă acum aici, petrecând cea de a doua mea vară în State, vizitând, explorând, trăindu-mi viața în cel mai nebunesc și frumos mod posibil, însă muncind din greu.

Am avut o experiență fantastică.

Călătoria în America a fost luungă (30 de ore), superbă cu compania Delta, am ajuns la cazare in jurul orei 9 seara, iar atunci am aflat că o să încep lucrul următoare zi la ora 8 🤕 Prima săptămână a fost cea mai grea, până am făcut trainingul, am învățat unde este locul la toate, a trecut cumva, eram maxim de obosit. Prima zi libera ii cea mai tare, am mers la shopping, am rămas uluiți de cate lucruri noi văzusem. După două săptămâni am lucrat deja singur in partea mea de bucătărie, fiind destul de multe comenzi, abia așteptăm să ajungă noii colegi din Romania.

Cum m-a schimbat experiența work and travel.

Acum doi ani începea aventura mea cu Work&Travel. Entuziasmată, dar ușor speriată, am aplicat pentru acest program în toamna anului 2021. Pe atunci nu știam că viitorul avea să-mi aducă experiențe unice, noi prieteni și amintiri pe care le voi prețui toată viața.

Vreau să vă împărtășesc experiența mea, peripețiile și ce înseamnă acest program pentru mine, dar pentru asta trebuie să ne întoarcem de unde a început totul.

Studenții români trebuie să lucreze minim 2,5 luni. Cât timp vei lucra depinde de tine și de acordul tău cu angajatorul. După ce termini partea de lucru a programului Work and Travel, este posibilă o parte turistică sau o perioadă de grație - o perioadă a destinată călătoriilor prin America. Partea turistica a experientei tale poate dura maxim 30 de zile, cu mentiunea că trebuie să părăsești teritoriul SUA până la sfarsitul lunii octombrie! 

Trebuie sa am asigurare de sanatate in SUA?

Da! Asigurarea de sănătate, care acoperă atât partea de muncă, cât și cea turistică a programului, este inclusă în prețul serviciului nostru.

Trebuie sa platesc taxe in SUA?

În calitate de lucrători angajați legal, toți participanții la program sunt obligați să plătească taxe federale și de stat, și uneori locale, în timpul porțiunii de lucru a programului. Esti student si iti place sa calatoresti dar ai vrea sa castigi si experienta de munca internationala? Atunci programele work and travel ti se potrivesc de minune, ai ocazia sa calatoresti, sa muncesti intr-o tara straina, sa iti exersezi independendenta si sa iti testezi capacitatile si limitele.

Probabil cel mai cautat este programul de work and travel din SUA, dar in conditiile pandemice actuale sunt foarte atractive si programele din Europa. Programul work and travel e destinat studentilor care vor să calatoreasca si sa experimenteze stilul de viata din alte tari. Se desfasoara pe perioada vacantei de vara (iunie-septembrie), timp in care studentii lucreaza la jobul pe care l-au obtinut (vezi si ce inseamna salariul net ), iar luna octombrie e pentru calatorii.

Tipul de job pe care il poti obtine variaza de la zona in care mergi, majoritatea sunt insa in hoteluri, restaurante sau parcuri de distractii. Este important sa cunosti destul de bine limba engleza, nu ai nevoie de certificat insa la interviu va trebui sa demonstrezi cunoasterea ei.

Get ready to say “ciao” to your next big adventure. 1.  Wine Tourism on an Italian Vineyard If you have an interest in wine, there’s no better place to build your skills than on a classic Italian vineyard.  From picking grapes during harvest time to leading wine tours for English-speaking visitors, you can learn about the whole complete process involved in running a successful wine-producing vineyard. 2. Refugee/Migrant support in southern Italy Italy is currently hosting 175,000 refugees, with many more arriving every day. Different organisations have sprung up to offer accommodation, food and clothing services to ensure that people’s most basic needs are fulfilled. They also provide legal assistance, physical and mental healthcare. You can utilise your skills in public health or social services to assist with the overburdened support system. 3. Live with and look after an Italian family  The family unit is perhaps the most important value for the Italian people. Therefore, there are usually plenty of opportunities available to move in with a family, play with the children and help around the house a bit. Often these are non-paying but the work is simple and a great way to improve your Italian.

VOLUNTEER WORK VISA / PERMIT REQUIREMENTS FOR ITALY

EU, UK, Australian, North American, and most South American citizens do not need a visa to stay for up to 90 out of every 180 days in a Schengen-area country like Italy. To stay longer or to work and travel you will need to meet the Italian government’s entry requirements. Check which type of visa and/or work permit you may need with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before booking an appointment through the Italian consulates. Chinese, South African and Russian citizens will need to apply for a visa to enter the country for any length of time. These visas are relatively simple to complete with the right documentation, however. Just make sure you don’t overstay your visa to prevent getting yourself banned from entering the EU in the future.

SEASONAL BACKPACKER SKILLS NEEDED IN ITALY

Spring work.

Most Italian locals aren't fluent in English, and therefore it's unlikely you'll secure work without mastering the language. On the other hand, your English speaking ability will be highly valued, particularly in tourism and teaching. Because of this, jobs teaching English as a foreign language are readily available. Recruitment for teachers typically begins in early spring for positions available in September/October. The weather in Italy is generally already warm in springtime, so farms and trekking tourism sites will already be operating and recruiting workers.

SUMMER JOBS

Summer tourism is big business in Italy, so there are plenty of seasonal jobs on offer including bar, hotel and restaurant work. You could find employment in summer camps or holiday resorts, much of it in exchange for free accommodation. Backpackers just looking to gain some entry-level experience will find plenty of volunteer opportunities in summer, especially in either the agricultural sector or hostels.

Italy is known for its ancient villas and historic structures, much of which was spared destruction during WWII, but could now use some facelifts. If you have handyperson or construction skills, there are a multitude of opportunities for you to work and travel. Felling trees, carpentry, brickwork - this is all consistently in demand, especially in the autumn before vacation residences close up for the winter.

The southern Italian islands such as Sicily have a mild climate, so backpackers can find citrus harvest work in February for picking lemons and oranges. Ski resorts in the Italian alps also need lots of help, but apply early since these positions are lucrative and the less-skilled jobs fill up quickly.

ATTITUDE TO FOREIGNERS WORKING OR VOLUNTEERING IN ITALY

Italians consider family extremely important and value a healthy live-work balance, so if you can get past initially hesitancy and establish yourself with the natives you can look forward to a thoroughly enjoyable work and travel experience. Italians expect to be respected and are usually prideful of their particular regions, so w hen in a place, do not praise too other places of Italy too much and don't compare the place where you are with other ones. Generally, Italy is a very safe country for visitors and solo travellers as long as you keep your wits about you.

Eligible employees have the right to refuse employer or third-party contact outside of working hours in some circumstances.

For small business employers and their employees, the right to disconnect provisions apply from 26 August 2025 .

Employees of non-small business employers have the right to refuse to monitor, read or respond to contact (or attempted contact) outside their working hours, unless doing so is unreasonable. This includes contact (or attempted contact) from an employer or a third party.

Third party could include clients, suppliers, staff from other businesses, or members of the public.

Contact could include a range of communication channels used to engage with employees, such as calls, emails, texts, social media and messaging services.

Employers and employees are encouraged to discuss contact out of hours and set expectations that suit the workplace and the employee’s role. Find Tips for discussing out of hours contact .

When working out whether an employee’s refusal is unreasonable, the following factors must be considered:

• the reason for the contact
• how the contact is made and how disruptive it is to the employee
• being available to perform work during the period they’re contacted, or
• working additional hours outside their ordinary hours of work
• the employee’s role in the business and level of responsibility
• the employee’s personal circumstances, including family or caring responsibilities.

Other matters may also be considered.

It will be unreasonable for an employee to refuse to read, monitor or respond if the contact or attempted contact is required by law. 

Example: Employee’s personal circumstances make out of hours contact unreasonable

Selim is a consultant and is working on a major project for a client. Selim has 2 young children. He has flexible working arrangements and his working hours are 7.30 am to 4 pm so that he can pick up his children from daycare.

At 4.30 pm on a Tuesday afternoon, Selim’s supervisor, Ava, is copied into an urgent email to Selim from the client. Ava considers whether to contact Selim and ask him to action the client’s request. It’s urgent and Selim is very familiar with this aspect of the client’s work. However, Ava knows that Selim is on his way to pick up his children and it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to deal with the request.

Ava asks another consultant to help the client and will update Selim when he returns to work. Ava’s decision is appropriate given Selim’s family responsibilities and the fact that another employee could resolve the issue.

Example: Employee is compensated for reasonable out of hours contact

Elizabeth is an associate at a medium-sized architecture firm where she usually works 8.30 am to 5 pm.

Elizabeth has been asked to fill in for her manager who is taking 3 months leave. During this period, Elizabeth will need to lead the delivery of a project for a major client. She is receiving extra pay while acting in her manager’s role.

Her supervising partner, Devi, has let Elizabeth know that a reasonable amount of out of hours contact and work will be required during her acting period to deliver the project. She is also told that this has been factored into her higher pay.

Devi gives her a copy of the firm’s policy on out of hours contact and asks if she has any questions.

In her second week in the role, Elizabeth leaves work at 5 pm. Shortly after, Devi finds out that Elizabeth’s team needs to urgently provide the client with additional documents for the project by 10 am tomorrow. It will take around 3 hours to prepare the documents. Devi tries to call Elizabeth on her personal mobile and sends her a text message explaining the situation.

Elizabeth doesn’t answer the calls as she’s about to go to the gym and then run some errands. She reads the full message at 8 pm but decides that it’s too late to respond to Devi. Based on the circumstances, Elizabeth’s refusal to monitor or respond to Devi’s contact could be unreasonable.

Awards, enterprise agreements and other registered agreements can also include additional right to disconnect provisions.

All awards include a right to disconnect term.

Award changes

The Fair Work Commission added right to disconnect terms to all awards on 26 August 2024. Learn more at Variation of modern awards to include a right to disconnect .

In some situations, an employee may be required to monitor, read or respond to contact (or attempted contact) from the employer outside their working hours in accordance with an award term.

If you're covered by an enterprise or other registered agreement, check the terms of your agreement for information about the right to disconnect. To find an enterprise agreement, go to the Fair Work Commission’s website .

Regular and open communication helps maintain a harmonious working environment. It can also prevent workplace problems from happening. Both employees and employers are responsible for open and effective communication at and about work. Learn more about good workplace communication practices.

Employers and employees are encouraged to discuss out of hours contact and set expectations that suit the workplace and the employee’s role. Where possible, there are benefits to having these conversations before out of hours contact happens.

A discussion about out of hours contact could include:

It’s important employees know when they can disconnect from work and when they may be expected to monitor, read or respond to contact.

For example, a specialist technical engineer is told that while out of hours contact isn’t common, they may be contacted out of hours in response to a critical technical outage. They don’t need to monitor emails, but will be expected to answer or return a phone call about a serious outage.

It’s important to check the relevant award, enterprise agreement or employment contract for entitlements that may apply. Learn more about Pay and wages and Employment conditions .

For example, if there’s a serious issue, an employee may prefer to be called on their personal phone so that they don’t have to monitor a work phone or email account.

For example, managers and supervisors may formalise arrangements for out of hours contact and communicate those arrangements with senior leaders. For external clients, managers and supervisors may consider whether and how they should discuss expectations about communication with their clients.

For example, the arrangement could be reviewed on a regular basis or when there’s a change in an employee’s hours (such as a change to hours or work due to a flexible work arrangement).

Tip: Guidance on the right to disconnect

The Australian Public Service Commission has published guidance on the right to disconnect in the public service sector .

The Fair Work Commission has published a video on understanding the new right to disconnect as well as a Right to disconnect fact sheet . They’re also required to make guidelines about the operation of the right to disconnect. These are not yet available.

Disputes about an employee’s right to disconnect should first be discussed at the workplace level to try to resolve the dispute.

If that isn’t successful, employees or employers can go to the Fair Work Commission (the Commission) to deal with the dispute. The Commission can make orders or deal with the dispute in other ways. This includes making orders to stop an employee from refusing contact or to stop an employer from taking certain actions.

CE ESTE PROGRAMUL WORK AND TRAVEL?

Acest program este dedicat exclusiv studenților și oferă o oportunitate unică de a experimenta în mod direct cultura americană, dar și alte culturi din întreaga lume. Summer Work and Travel oferă posibilitatea studenților din întreaga lume de a trăi cultura Americană prin muncă, distracție, calătorii și nu în ultimul rând prin legarea unor prietenii pe viață.

Programul se desfășoară pe perioada vacanței de vară universitare. Astfel, în cadrul acestui program de schimb cultural, participanților li se oferă dreptul de muncă pe o perioadă de 3 luni și jumătate (15 iunie – 30 septembrie) și o perioadă exclusiv dedicată vizitării (1-30 octombrie).

Fiecare participant al Programului Summer Work and Travel poate opta pentru una dintre cele două variante de program.

** Sponsor Assisted Job Interview – opțiune care presupune participarea la unul dintre Târgurile de Joburi organizate de către GTS, în parteneriat cu sponsorul de programe. ** Self-Arranged Job – opțiune prin intermediul căreia studentul vine cu propria ofertă de muncă de la un angajator la care a lucrat anterior sau obținută prin intermediul prietenilor care au mai fost plecați și îl pot recomanda.

Participarea în cadrul Programului Summer Work and Travel este posibilă doar cu ajutorul unei organizații acreditate de către Departamentul de Stat American și doar prin intermediul reprezentanților săi din România, ca de exemplu GTS.

După terminarea programului, participanții trebuie să se întoarcă în România pentru continuarea studiilor. Nu există un număr limitat de participări în acest program, singurul criteriu important care trebuie respectat fiind cel legat de frecventarea cursurilor universitare la zi, la o facultate acreditată de către Ministerul Educației. 

Printre avantajele participării în cadrul programului de schimb cultural Summer Work and Travel USA sunt: experiența culturală dobândită pe perioada celor 4 luni, posibilitatea de a vizita America legal și de a te bucura de toate locurile la care poate doar visai, formarea unor relații de prietenie unice, îmbunătățirea nivelului de limbă engleză, etc

Engineering Drive utility work to affect campus travel, building access

With preparations for the new engineering building underway, Badgers should be mindful of work zones and detours when walking, cycling, or driving in the engineering campus area.

The work zones and detours described below will remain in place through 2025 with slight changes to be expected as the project goes through multiple phases. The College of Engineering will share weekly project updates on their Facilities website .

Sidewalk closures

Sidewalk closures and detours are clearly designated. Pedestrians should be mindful of work zones, only use marked pedestrian routes and avoid walking in roadways.

• Many walkways surrounding the Engineering Research Building and Materials Sciences Building are closed. (The walkways immediately surrounding the east, west, and south sides of the Materials Science and Engineering Building remain open for emergency exits only.)
• A section of sidewalk on the north side of Engineering Drive is closed from North Randall Avenue to the Engineering Research Building.
• A short section of western sidewalk on North Randall Avenue is closed where Engineering Drive meets North Randall Avenue.

Pedestrian detours

• A fenced-off accessible pedestrian detour travels along an existing sidewalk through the work zone located between the Engineering Research Building and 1410 Engineering Drive. There are access points from Campus Drive and Engineering Drive.
• Additional detours encircling the work zone have been designated along Engineering Drive, North Randall Avenue, Campus Drive, and the walkway between the Mechanical Engineering Building and Engineering Centers Building.

Building access

Materials Science and Engineering Building

Building access is maintained on the north side of the building facing Campus Drive. However, this entrance is not ADA-accessible.

The accessible entrance is located on the south side of the building on the second floor. To get to this accessible entrance, pedestrians must detour through the accessible detour traveling through the work zone to the Engineering Research Building, take the elevator to the second floor, and use the skybridge to get to the second floor entrance of Materials Science and Engineering. Use the elevators to access other floors as needed.

Doors on the northwest corner, as well as the south, and east sides of the building will function as emergency exits only.

Engineering Research Building and Mechanical Engineering Building

These buildings may be accessed via the fenced-off accessible pedestrian detour traveling through the work area on Engineering Mall. Alternatively, use the pedestrian detour along the southern sidewalk of Engineering Drive.

Other closures

The short drive leading to the Engineering Research Building and the Materials Sciences and Engineering Building is closed to everyone except construction and emergency vehicles. Pedestrians should avoid this area and stay on designated pedestrian routes.

Bicycle parking relocated

The bicycle racks at 1410 Engineering Drive and the northwest corner of Engineering Hall have been relocated. They are now across from the Engineering Research Building, just east of the Lot 17 parking garage.

Safety first

Motorists should use extra caution on and around Engineering Drive and watch out for pedestrians, cyclists, and construction vehicles. Pedestrians should always follow marked detours. Both cyclists and pedestrians should be mindful of motor vehicle traffic and construction vehicles traveling through the area.

What’s happening?

Workers are upgrading underground steam lines, chilled water lines, and fiber-optic cables throughout the engineering campus before work on the new building can begin. These lines and cables also run along Dayton Street, all the way to the Charter Street Heating & Cooling Plant. A later phase of this project will require workers to upgrade those lines as well, which means additional road and sidewalk closures can be expected through 2025.

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT)

WSDOT has several projects affecting major highways in and around Seattle. Below is a summary of the closures with the largest travel impacts.  Visit WSDOT’s website  for the latest information and resources to stay informed. Please note: this work is weather-dependent.

I-5 area work:

• Southbound I-5 off-ramp to SR 523/N 145th St |  Closed nightly from 9 PM Sunday, August 25 to 5 AM Friday, August 30 for water main installation work. This is part of the  City of Shoreline’s 145th Street project .
• Northbound I-5 collector/distributor lanes | The northbound I-5 mainline off-ramp to the collector/distributor (with access to Dearborn, James, and Madison Streets) will close from 11:59 PM Wednesday, August 28 to 4 AM Thursday, August 29 for attenuator repairs. This is part of the I-5 – NB Seneca to SR 520 – Mobility Improvements project .
• Northbound I-5 mainline lanes | Three left lanes of northbound I-5 between University St and Lakeview Blvd will close from 9 PM Tuesday, September 3 to 5 AM Wednesday, September 4 for Variable Message Sign installation. This is also part of the I-5 – NB Seneca to SR 520 – Mobility Improvements project .
• This closure includes the University St and Mercer St on-ramps to northbound I-5.
• Southbound I-5 off-ramp to Mercer St | The southbound I-5 mainline and express lanes off-ramps (Exit 167) to Mercer St will be closed from 10 PM Friday, September 6, through 5 AM Monday, September 9 for median barrier work. This is for the SR 520 I-5 Express Lanes Connection Project .
• Southbound I-5 in South Seattle | Up to 3 lanes of southbound I-5 at mid-Boeing Field will close for expansion joint repairs from 10 PM Friday, September 6 through 5 AM Monday, September 9. This is for the I-5 Duwamish River to South Lucile Street Concrete Rehabilitation Project .
• I-5 express lanes | The I-5 express lanes will operate on the weekend schedule on Labor Day, Monday, September 2.

SR 520/Montlake Blvd area work:

• Lane reductions along westbound and eastbound SR 520  | Up to two left lanes nightly along eastbound (August 26-30) and westbound (September 3-7) SR 520 on the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge between Seattle and Medina will be closed for bridge deck sealing work. This is part of the  SR 520 – Floating Bridge and Approaches Bridge Decks and Soffit Sealer project .
• Bill Dawson Trail Closure | The Bill Dawson Trail, between E Calhoun St and Montlake Blvd, will be closed from 7:30 AM Wednesday, September 4 through 3:30 PM Friday, September 6 for geotechnical boring and potholing work.

Seattle Mariners

Upcoming games at T-Mobile Park

• Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 6:40 PM: Tampa Bay Rays
• Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 6:40 PM: San Diego Padres

If you’re riding the Link light rail, get off at the Stadium Station and walk a short two blocks over to the ballpark. If taking rideshare, there is a designated rideshare lot southeast of the stadium. If driving, the Mariners Garage opens 3 hours before the first pitch. Biking, scooting, walking, or rolling to the game may also be great options, depending on your trip specifics. Find more information on navigating to T-Mobile Park here .

Community Celebrations

August 30: waterfront block party – waterfront park.

Enjoy a day of live music, entertainment, family-friendly crafts, and food across the central waterfront. Join a public group bike ride from Olympic Sculpture Park or support vendors offering their crafts. Find more information about the Waterfront Block Party here.

The Waterfront Block Party can be reached by Sound Transit light rail (the University Street station is closest) or King County Metro bus. You can also use the free Waterfront Shuttle to explore the area.

August 31 and September 7: Husky Football Games – Husky Stadium

Spend an evening with your fellow Husky fans because Husky football is back in action. Kicking off their first game of the season is the University of Washington versus Weber State on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 8 PM. The following weekend on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 12:30 PM, the Huskies will take on Eastern Michigan. Learn more about the games here.

August 31 – September 1: Bumbershoot – Seattle Center

Close out summer by enjoying a weekend of impressive art from fashion to animation and wrestling to lion dance. You can also dance to live music from over 70 artists and eat your way through some of the 60+ vendors offering delicious bites and drinks. Find more information about Bumbershoot here.

September 8: Live Aloha Hawaiian Cultural Festival – Seattle Center

This free event is part of the Seattle Center Festal that helps honor and celebrate the cultures of the Pacific Northwest. The festival shares the culture of Hawaii through music, dance, food, workshops, and more. Find more information about the festival here.

EU divided over axing Russian diplomats' Schengen privileges

T he way Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky sees it, almost three years into Moscow's full-scale assault on Ukraine, Russia is also waging assymmetrical war against Europe while Europe is providing assymmetrical benefits to the Kremlin.

For Prague, the grudge starts back in 2014 , when two of its citizens died in an explosion at an ammunition depot in the town of Vrbetice. Four years later, Czech officials say, two Russian agents who were involved in that blast, Ruslan Borishov and Alexander Petrov, would go on to attempt to poison former Soviet spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury, England, both times traveling on forged non-biometric passports.

His country already stopped allowing Russian holders of non-biometric passports to enter and Lipavsky wants other European Union countries to follow that lead, especially amid the increase in the number of sabotage incidents across Europe believed to be at the very least linked, if not actually facilitated, by the Kremlin.

" We know the Russian, diplomatic missions serve the hybrid warfare which is being waged against Europe," Lipavsky told DW in an interview. "We have so many cases of Russian sabotages , specific knowledge. I think the secret services are quite clear in that when providing reports with us."

Prague: Pull the privilege

But the Czechs are also renewing a nine-month-old plea to EU counterparts to take another step to limit the movement of Russian passport-holders as well — to stop those accredited as diplomats from using the Schengen free-travel area to leave the country to which they are assigned. The Czech government estimates there are more than 3,000 Russians holding diplomatic passports in the EU, including both officials and their family members. "There is no obligation for any European country to provide the Schengen privilege to those Russian diplomats," he said.

But some other governments don't see it that way. A letter to EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell in June highlighting how Russian aggression and "planned sabotage and attacks by Russian intelligence services" required urgent discussion on the Schengen issue was signed by just seven additional ministers — the Baltics, Denmark, Netherlands, Poland and Romania. It has not received sufficient support to be brought to the table at a foreign affairs meeting, despite Czech assurance that "[t]his measure will significantly narrow operational space for Russian agents."

Lipavsky notes that the traditional "fear of retaliation" was anticipated, stating in the letter that "we consider a potential Russian response as bearing far smaller cost than the potential damage Russian diplomats-agents can cause across Europe."

Would it work?

But Elisabeth Braw, author of " The Defender's Dilemma: Identifying and Deterring Gray-Zone Aggression", says she understands where opponents of the Schengen measure are coming from. "Russia would be 100% certain to say 'European countries have revoked visas for our diplomats, we will do the same thing'," she told DW. "That is how Russia operates. You would find this diplomatic means is becoming a whole new front" in the EU-Russia standoff.

Braw explains she doesn't believe the EU should tolerate Kremlin exploitation of its privileges, but rather that "I don't think it's it's worth the effort because the gain would be relatively limited. If the Russian government wants to stir up trouble within the European Union, they have other ways of doing it in addition to diplomats roaming within the Schengen area."

Braw agrees that it would be a "strong signal" to send to Russian President Vladimir Putin, but one that might require the EU expending significant resources "trying to figure out what to do, how we would react if Russia were to expel diplomats from our countries in response." That would be a distraction, she says, from "what should be the West's main mission: which is to help Ukraine win."

Limit Russia's range of options

At the same time, Braw shares the Czech concern at the Russian ability to create chaos inside EU territory. "One has to give them credit for being incredibly versatile in the sort of activities in which they're engaging and whom they involve in those activities," she emphasized, agreeing that the increasing amount of sabotage and hybrid tactics are of huge concern. "I like to think of Russia's harmful activities targeted against our countries as like making a soup: They add whatever they happen to have available and if something isn't available, then they use something else."

The Czechs, however, aren't giving up taking a couple more of those ingredients out of the Kremlin's kitchen. "I am continuing lobbying, my colleagues, my ministers — we are working on different diplomatic channels, to explain the importance of such a measure," Lipavsky emphasized.
