Bear Rinehart unveiled Wilder Woods in 2019, releasing a neo-soul record that focused on new beginnings: the advent of fatherhood, the launch of his solo career, and the updated branding of a longtime bandleader who’d decided to expand his reach. With FEVER / SKY , he widens Wilder Woods’ cinematic sound while celebrating the parts of himself that made him most proud. It’s a personal, poignant record whose songs focus not upon the horizon ahead, but upon the road itself, stacked high with heartland hooks, western wooziness, southern soul, and festival-worthy anthems.

“I’ve been in a band for 20 years, and a band is a democracy where you make decisions together,” explains Rinehart, who also fronts the Grammy-nominated, chart-topping band NEEDTOBREATHE. “Wilder Woods is a different outlet. I’m giving myself the freedom to do what I want to do and say what I want to say. This isn’t the kind of journey where I’m worried about the places I’m headed or the places I’ve left; it’s a journey where I’m just happy to be in the car, driving forward.”

Created alongside producer Cason Cooley, guitarist Tyler Burkum, and a small group of collaborators, FEVER / SKY brims with the insights of a family man and road warrior who’s spent two decades on tour, balancing his art with his commitments at home.

Bear Rinehart discusses his new project, Wilder Woods

wilder woods tour

Bear Rinehart, known to many as the frontman and co-founder of the Grammy Award-nominated group NEEDTOBREATHE, has recently embarked on his solo side project Wilder Woods.  An homage to his family and a quest for personal growth, the project has been a journey of self-discovery for Rinehart.  Named after his sons Wilder and Woods, the project has already garnered plenty of praise from the likes of NPR, Magnet, Popdust and Parade, who described the track “Sure Ain’t” as “hauntingly lovely with a delivery that ranges from intense to delicate. Wilder Woods ’ quiet confidence is mesmerizing.” “Named after his two sons ( Wilder and Woods ), it’s a bold project committed to building a brand new sound from the ground up,” raved Earmilk in its exclusive “ Electric Woman ” premiere, “foregoing the comfort and security he’d built across a storied career in music thus far.”  Rinehart blends an infectious mix of classic soul, R&B and modern pop, blazing his own distinctive trail along the way.  Wilder Woods’ self titled debut album was released on August 9th and was recorded at Layman Drug Company studios in East Nashville with producer Gabe Simon (Dua Lipa/Gin Wigmore).  The album sees backing by a various co-writers and supporting musicians that include The Watson Twins, Jesse Baylin, Trent Dabbs, Carson Cooley, Ian Fitchuk (Kacey Musgraves/Maren Morris), and more.  Rinehart embarked on his Wilder Woods world tour on September 5th in Toronto, which runs through October 28th, ending in London.  Rodrick Cliche & Four20s will be joining him on tour, not only opening the shows but serving as Reinhart’s band, as well.  Staff writer Emily May spoke recently with Rinehart about Wilder Woods, the new album and what’s next for him.  You can stay up-to-date with all music, artist and tour news via the following links.  Check out the tour dates below and make sure to catch Wilder Woods on tour!

You’ve said that Wilder Woods came together during a break in touring with NEEDTOBREATHE in 2017.  What led to you decide the this was the right time to get Wilder Woods going?  Was it something you had been thinking about doing for a while?

Yeah, I think I’d always been thinking about doing a side project/solo record.  I didn’t really know what that was or how big of a deal it was going to be.  There was a song that I wrote for it that really made me want to pursue it more.  As I got into it, it became a bigger thing than I thought it was going to be, but somehow we ended up on a major label with our record.  It was really fun and really natural.  I had always wanted to do this but the time wasn’t there in some ways.

NEEDTOBREATHE has seen such great success as a band over the years, so did you feel any kind of trepidation in venturing off on your own for this project?  What has it been like operating as a solo artist after being in a band with other members for so long?

Yeah, it’s definitely been different!  I’m the boss here, which is nice (laughs).  It’s hard…you know, I think bands are a democracy so things take longer sometimes, and sometimes that’s the best process.  I’ve really enjoyed, though, being out on my own.  Other than that, I really look at this project like I’m playing with house money in a lot of ways.  I don’t put a ton of pressure on certain things, which I think honestly has made the art a lot better and has made it a lot more fun.

With Wilder Woods, you have said that you wanted to work with people who would essentially scare you out of your comfort zone.  What has that journey been like for you so far and what are some things you’ve learned throughout the process?

Yeah, it’s been a lot of fun.  I think when I moved to Nashville a little over a year ago, and started immediately writing and playing with other people, that really pushed me in different ways.  I think the thing I have learned over the years is that when the quietest person in the room makes a comment, it can change the whole trajectory of a song or a record even.  I think the better the people are that you are in the room with, the more often that happens.  It was really fun for me to kind-of go “That’s not what my first instinct was.  Let’s play it out” and I can make a decision on whether I like it or not.  I think the experience of doing that and allowing the process to happen and getting in the studio and not really thinking about music as a means to an end was really refreshing for me.  I feel like a lot of good stuff came out of that.

What can you tell me about the inspiration behind the making of your new album?  You’ve said you didn’t really want to make a throwback album, so how did you go about blending the old school sounds on the album with modern alternative sounds?

I think it was pretty simple really.  It was really hard to find the exact sound it was going to be and what roads we were gong to take to get it to that kind-of alternative, weirder world.  The writing part was like “Let’s write classic songs to start with” to make a foundation for things that you could hear others writing and Ray Charles playing.  We then went about messing it up in the studio and how we were going to present it.  Gabe Simon, the producer, really helped me with that a lot.  We hit on something pretty early on in the production process, and once we had that we kind of felt like everything needed to go through that door into the house, if that makes sense.  We started treating guitars in a way you might treat drums, in terms of sampling and rehearsing things, and screwing around with that in terms of the sound.  We kept it modern, too, but we did it in sort of backwards, different ways and with keys which is sort-of a more analog way to do that.  In the end, just getting in a room with a real band to complete the record was a huge part of it.  Putting real drums and bass on it to bring it to more of a real place makes me more proud of it.

How did you meet and come to work with producer Gabe Simon on the album?

The A&R guy at Atlantic Records told me to go write with Gabe and said “Listen.  You’re probably not going to like him, just so you know.  So be ready” (laughs).   We spent a half a day together and wrote “Electric Woman” which turned out making the record.  The demo for that song really convinced me to have him produce.  He hadn’t really produced any major label records before.  He’s in a band and had done a bunch of other stuff.  I just thought what I do and what he does combined together would really work well.  We compliment each other.  I think our backgrounds and inspirations are completely different, which helped a lot as we sort-of went through the way we write songs and present them.  After that day, we’ve been inseparable ever since which is kind-of amazing since we couldn’t be more different.

I read that the  first song from the album, “Light Shine In”, is the intro that sets the tone for the album.  What was it about that song that you feel sets the tone for the album?

Yeah, I think the lyric is a big part of that.  I wrote the lyric outside of music, which I don’t really do very often, in a stream-of-consciousness kind-of thing.  We tried to put that tune two to three times in the record and it never really fit.  We didn’t spend a lot of time on it.  The last day we were in the studio we were working on another track and the guitar feedback made me think of “Light Shine In”.  I’d also been writing the chorus for the song almost as a nursery rhyme for my son.  It was just something that me and him had been singing back and forth.  Somehow, in the period of two to three hours, it turned into what I felt was a statement song for the record.  It was the most Marvin Gaye sounding song on the record.  I think it has an important message that I want to send to my boys and also to myself.

In reference to your sons, what led you to separate the songs on your album into the Wilder songs and Woods songs?

I think when I first started, the big thing is that I thought I was going to make a soul man record.  The songs that I did first were actually the Wilder songs, which sounded completely different…more alternative.  I had a lot of guitar on there.  I wasn’t sure they were going to fit.  There were some ballads that I was playing on my guitar and then these other songs that need a big band.  That was what was the emphasis for it and in the end I kind-of dropped the idea for it when I started realizing that all of these songs could go on the same record.  We sort-of took that wall down, I guess.  But that’s really where it came from, the idea that the writing was so different that it seemed to be two main places it was coming from.

You were recently in Germany and did your first German TV show!  What was that experience like?

It was kind-of insane!  That particular TV show is really insane.  They tape it in a really small pub and I think they tape 3 to 4 to 5 hours worth of material to play a one hour show.  There was a lot of drinking going on and there was a sea shanty choir literally outside the window of the pub who sang something funny, so it was a pretty bizarre experience.  I couldn’t understand any of the jokes.  It was cool though and was a really intimate kind of performance and I can’t wait until it airs.

What can you tell me about the world tour you are about to embark on and what you are most looking forward to?  What can you tell me about the band that you’ll bet playing with?  I read that they’ll be opening the show, as well as play as your band on stage?

Yeah.  They’ve played their first couple of shows in the past couple of weeks and the tour is just now starting out.  The band is great.  I’ve known Rodrick for a long time…he’s been out with D’Angelo and Joss Stone and all these people.  I needed a solo band to play with and he was putting together the Four20s around the same time so it really worked out.  They’ve been great and high energy-think James Brown meets Sinatra (laughs)!  That’s what we’ve been trying to cook up and we’re getting there.

What’s coming up for you after tour?  What’s next for you?

I’ve been working on this record for a long time.  My plan is to tour again in the Spring and then do summer festivals and all that.  At some point there will be a NEEDTOBREATHE record that we’ve been cooking up for a while, but I’m going to tour the Wilder Woods album for a while.

Thanks so much for taking the time to speak with me today!

Of course.  Thanks for having me.

Fever and sky. For more than two decades, Bear Rinehart — road warrior, storyteller, and ever-evolving songwriter — has seen plenty of both. He strikes a new balance between cathartic roots-rock and contemplative, cinematic moments with FEVER / SKY, his second album as Wilder Woods. Rinehart unveiled the solo project in 2019, releasing a self-titled debut record of nuanced neo-soul. FEVER / SKY covers the different territory, with Rinehart refocusing his attention not upon the horizon ahead, but upon the road itself. Recorded with old friends and new collaborators, it’s a personal record about enjoying the modern moment, stacked high with soulful R&B textures, heartland hooks, and the willingness to chase the muse into unexplored places.

I’ve stopped worrying so much about imaging. This isn’t the kind of journey where I’m worried about the places I’m headed or the places I’ve left; it’s a journey where I’m just happy to be in the car, driving forward.”

Fittingly, the music on FEVER / SKY often unfolds like the soundtrack to a cross-country road trip. “Go Ahead,” with its Springsteen-sized hooks and spacey guitar textures, evokes the western wooziness of a desert landscape. “Heartland” sketches a portrait of wild, uninhabited spaces while nodding to Rinehart’s southern roots, pitting gospel harmonies against a backdrop of swirling B3 organ and electric guitar. “Be The Man” is all big-city bombast and retro rhythms, like the long-lost soundtrack to some 1970s action film, and “Criminal” nods to Memphis with its Stax-sized blasts of brass. During the album’s final moments, Rinehart brings his attention back home, preparing his three sons for their own lifelong journeys with “Make Your Own Mistakes.” FEVER / SKY is even dedicated to his youngest child, Waters, while his two older boys — Wilder and Woods — inspire the name of his solo project itself.

Rinehart doesn’t have to look far for inspiration these days. A proud family man, he sings to his wife during “Maestro (Tears Don’t Lie),” a festival-ready rocker that charts the early days of the couple’s courtship. A longtime touring veteran, he sings about long goodbyes and painful partings with “Wish It Was Mine.” An award-winning college athlete who shined on the football field long before he earned his first gold record, he encourages listeners to chase down their dreams with the seize-the-day song “Go Ahead.” While riding out the Covid-19 pandemic that brought his touring schedule to a temporary standstill, he wrote most of FEVER / SKY at home in Nashville, fusing his personal lyrics with thrilling musical textures inspired by two decades of booming live concerts. “I began writing music that you might hear at a festival,” he says. “Uptempo stuff. Rock stuff. Big melodies. I just pictured myself onstage and let those visuals inform the music.”

Wilder Woods, his solo debut, focused on new beginnings: the advent of fatherhood, the launch of a new project, and the updated branding of a longtime bandleader who’d decided to expand his artistry. With FEVER / SKY, he just wanted to celebrate the parts of himself that made him most proud. “Once I finished a song, I didn’t ask myself which project it fit into,” he explains. “It was more about, ‘What feels like a personal statement?’ While making the first record, I felt like it had to be so different than anything I’d done before. I didn’t worry about that with FEVER / SKY. The songs weren’t the difference. I let the musicians and collaborators that I surrounded myself with be the difference.”

Those collaborators included producer Cason Cooley and guitarist Tyler Burkum. “I’d already made some little demos — short ideas involving a song’s verse and chorus — and I wanted to flesh them out fully with writers I trusted,” Rinehart says. “I don’t think I could’ve made the record without a team, nor would I have wanted to. When you’ve been in a band your whole life, you get used to building music together and feeding off one another’s contributions. I approach every project like that. I’m not some genius in the corner, dreaming everything up.”

Working alongside Cooley and Burkum, Rinehart began turning his homemade demos into larger sketches of the record he intended to make. “We wanted something to show the other players what we were going for, and we organically built everything from there,” he explains. Emphasizing authentic performances over technical precision, he then recorded FEVER / SKY with musicians like drummer Aaron Sterling, bassist Tony Lucido, and My Morning Jacket’s Carl Broemel. The goal wasn’t virtuosity, it was the proper communication of each song’s message, from the return-to-nature theme of “Heartland” to the self-love encouragement of “Be Yourself.”

“Cason isn’t the kind of guy who wants to use a bunch of gadgets and fix everything that’s wrong with you,” Rinehart says of his co-producer. “He’s more about taking what’s right about you and magnifying it.” That approach proved particularly helpful when it came to Rinehart’s voice, an instrument that showcases the full range of its owner’s musical influences — including full-throated blues, gritty gospel, modern pop, and blue-collar rock — on every album it touches. “The truth is, I’m still learning how to use my loud voice,” he admits. “Every record we make allows me to find a more effective way to use it. Cason and I have the kind of relationship where he can say, ‘Hey, am I believing in what you’re saying in this performance? Can we beat the feeling here?’ Sometimes, we wound up using the original vocal performance from the demo because it felt the most honest. It’s not about how perfect the performance is. It’s about how well the lyric is delivered. It’s not always about ‘singing,’ either. It’s about letting the song happen.”

With NEEDTOBREATHE continuing to tour and record, Bear Rinehart’s schedule is back to pre-pandemic levels of engagement. He is, to put it mildly, a very busy person. Even so, there’s a reason Wilder Woods continues to thrive. In many ways, it’s become one of the new cornerstones of his career, offering a different way to approach the songwriting and performing processes that have earned Rinehart a number of chart-topping releases on the Billboard charts.

“Wilder Woods is a passion project,” he says. “That’s the way it has to be. You have to love doing something like this — and learn from it, too — in order to keep doing it. There’s a lot of ways to make music, but for me, all of it is a tool to communicate with people. My songs help me relate to an audience. I’m trying to take all of us to some other place — somewhere beautiful — for the duration of an album or a concert. As an artist, it can give you a lot of freedom to not think about how everyone else is doing things, and that’s what FEVER / SKY is. It’s me. I’m not looking in the rearview mirror. I’m just happy to be here, right now, making the music I want to make.”

$1.00 per ticket sold goes to the artist’s charity.

Abraham Alexander Listen | Watch

When Abraham Alexander unspools his extraordinary life story, it becomes clear that he should always trust his instincts. Each time he has, something unknowable but amazing has happened for him.

Born in Greece, where he spent the early part of his life with the Acropolis as his playground, Abraham was transplanted to Texas in the early 2000s at 11 years old to escape the ever present racial tension of his birthplace. Adopted in Texas after losing his mother in a car accident with a drunk driver, Abraham became a sports nut who excelled on the pitch and had first set his sights on a career in soccer. A torn ACL sidelined those ambitions but opened the door to a new path. A friend handed him a guitar during this downtime, and, without warning, his soul was unlocked.

Songs he did not know that he had in him poured out. A series of increasingly incredible chance meetings — including a life-changing encounter with Leon Bridges — led him to nurture this newfound musical voraciousness. Those roads have converged on his forthcoming album Sea/Sons, out on Dualtone Records in 2023.

Co-produced by Alexander with the help of several folks including Matt Pence and Brad Cook, the album is a lush, seductive affair that showcases the 31-year-old singer-songwriter’s beguiling voice— one which offers both honey and grit— and supple acoustic guitar work. The 11 tracks on Sea/Sons display a cool assuredness even as the songs themselves play with themes of loss, redemption, longing, anguish, and joy informed by a complex life of love and pain. There is a refreshing genre fluidity at play as elements of folk, pop, rock, R&B, gospel, and even electronic music meld and tangle. Ineffable backing vocals, sparse but rich arrangements, and a sense of emotional purpose draw the musical threads together into a cohesive whole that is simultaneously warm and cool.

From open mics in Fort Worth, TX to recent stints on the road opening for Leon Bridges, Ani DiFranco, and Mavis Staples — an instructive trinity for his sound — Alexander is ready for the headlining spotlight and to articulate what many of us are feeling with Sea/Sons.

REVIEW: Wilder Woods “FEVER / SKY”

Wilder Woods – FEVER / SKY

The opening song from this sophomore LP from Nashville-based Bear Rinehart of Wilder Woods (the first names of his 2 older sons) gets off to a sure-footed soulful start. Though packed solidly with 60s ingredients the sincere approach decorates these songs with percolating R&B with dashes of rock to embellish the drive & circuitry.

While “Patience,” leans a little heavily on a musical rap the chorus is infectious while the verses are weighted down by rhyme. However, lines like “how many times must I test your love…” justify the style. Wilder Woods’ voice is powerful, expressive, raw & sumptuous. Nothing is diluted. So, there’s a saving grace for this cut. The entire CD has nothing but sweet fruit on low branches.

Wilder Woods

“Be Yourself,” is a soulful easy-listening ballad that finds voice in a Marvin Gaye groove & doesn’t imitate – it’s influenced by the suave Gaye soft tones & Wilder Woods’ well-charged melody. This artist is no poseur. The warmth in his voice is the entire showcase.

There are 11 songs on FEVER / SKY (Drops March 24–Dualtone Music Group) & arranged with sinewy strength. A rootsier Joe Cocker-flavored tune is the rural soulfully woven gospel-tinged “Heartland,” with its assertive backup vocals & Steve Cropper-type lead guitar. A well-cultivated performance. Delicately precise. With its purism just under the surface of being dramatic — without being so. This will be on repeat later in the day.

A nice quote from the artist states – “This isn’t the kind of journey where I’m worried about the places I’m headed or the places I’ve left; it’s a journey where I’m just happy to be in the car, driving forward.” What an excellent basis for a CD of riveting songs. That statement alone is inspiring & has many miles of creativity under its wheels. It’s also somewhat of a Jack Kerouac-type philosophy since that’s exactly what Jack did & was motivated to write his classic “On the Road.”

Another impressive ballad “Wish It Was Mine,” has spirit. A superb tune. Wilder Woods’ vocals & lyrics were performed with expertise. The energy level is always potent as displayed in “Go Ahead” & then the subtle “Make Your Own Mistakes.” Perfect voice for the perfect lyrics of lesson with finger-picked guitar. Nice. Tiger Woods will play the PGA Champions Tour in a cart due to injuries

Paul Broadhurst assures that the veterans tour will be happy to receive the former world number one..

A couple of years ago, Tiger Woods reiterated his refusal to play a tournament in a golf cart. However, after his considerable problems with injuries, Paul Brdoadhurst assured that the former world number one will have to use a buggy to play the PGA Champions Tour .

Broadhurst has two second places on the PGA senior tour in the United States, and his earnings have just reached $728,000, all thanks to the Champions Tour rules allowing him to play tournaments in a golf cart.

Last year, PGA officials granted the player a waiver to use the buggy. The English golfer can no longer play the 18 holes on foot due to the arthritis he suffers from in one of his ankles, and he needs medication to allow him to walk.

His situation is similar to that of Woods , whose injury history has taken a heavy toll on him in recent seasons. The former world number one has had to withdraw from several of his most recent competitions for health reasons, but Broadhurst said that would not be a problem on the tour for players over 50.

Woods on the senior tour

Broadhurst assured that if he joined the Champions Tour , " Woods will be able to take a cart, that won't be an issue for him. He will perhaps be looking forward to playing without walking around."

At the same time, Broadhurst assured that Tiger would be more than welcome on the veterans tour. "No question. They are really hopeful, and I think he has given out signs that he is more than happy to play once he turns 50 ," said the 2018 Senior PGA Championship champion.

Woods , 48, has battled multiple injuries throughout his career, but in recent years, his back and one of his ankles have been a constant source of discomfort. The Genesis Invitational this past February was his first tournament in 10 months, and he had to withdraw due to health problems ; however, this time, it was a cold and had nothing to do with his injuries according to a spokeperson.

Broadhurst continues to play despite injuries

For his part, the English veteran recalled that he suffers from severe arthritis in his right ankle that would prevent him from walking the 18 holes of a round. However, since the PGA Champions Tour allowed him to use a cart, he has been able to be more consistent with his game.

He explained that his ankle needs surgery, but that will have to wait until his final retirement from the circuit. "At the moment, I have been told it is a year to recover from, but I haven't got a year playing this game."

"I am 58 years old . That will have to wait for a few more years. At the moment, we are fortunately able to take a cart. I can get around that way, and it doesn't seem to be affecting my golf," indicated the player.

Tiger Woods accepts special exemption into 124th U.S. Open

Nine-time usga champion to make his 23rd u.s. open appearance at pinehurst.

Change Text Size

Tiger Woods has accepted a special exemption to play the 124th U.S. Open, the United States Golf Association (USGA) announced Thursday.

Woods will make his 23rd start at the U.S. Open, third at Pinehurst No. 2 and first since 2020 at Winged Foot Golf Club. It's the first time in Woods' career that he didn't qualify for the U.S. Open on his own merit. Woods' five-year major championship exemption for winning the 2019 Masters ran out earlier this year.

Woods, 48, has won the 2000, 2002 and 2008 U.S. Open Championships in addition to 12 other major championships and 82 total PGA TOUR victories in his Hall of Fame career. His nine USGA titles, matched only by Bobby Jones, include three consecutive U.S. Junior Amateurs (1991-1993) followed by three straight U.S. Amateurs (1994-1996) and an overall USGA match play record of 42-3.

“The U.S. Open, our national championship, is a truly special event for our game and one that has helped define my career,” said Woods. “I’m honored to receive this exemption and could not be more excited for the opportunity to compete in this year’s U.S. Open, especially at Pinehurst, a venue that means so much to the game.”

One of golf’s five Grand Slam winners, Woods’ incredible 15 major championship victories are second all-time to only Jack Nicklaus (18) and include three wins at The Open, four at the PGA Championship and five at the Masters. Most recently, he triumphed at Augusta National in 2019 to bookend an 11-year stretch between major championships.

“The story of the U.S. Open could not be written without Tiger Woods,” said USGA Chief Championships Officer John Bodenhamer. “From his 15-stroke victory at Pebble Beach in 2000 to his inspiring win on a broken leg at Torrey Pines in 2008, this championship is simply better when Tiger is in the field, and his accomplishments in the game undoubtedly made this an easy decision for our special exemption committee.”

As an amateur, Woods was a member of the 1995 USA Walker Cup Team and 1994 USA World Amateur Team. A seven-time member of the U.S. Ryder Cup Team, he served as assistant captain for the 2016 matches, and he has competed in nine Presidents Cups, including as a playing captain in 2019.

The U.S. Open will be contested June 13-16 on Pinehurst Resort & Country Club’s Course No. 2, in the village of Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Tiger Woods Offers Update On 2024 Playing Schedule

PGA Tour superstar Tiger Woods came into the 2024 season with a plan in place about how much he would play. The 15-time major winner was aiming to play in at least one tournament per month, but that quest was derailed pretty early on.

In his first tournament of the season, the Genesis Invitational from February 15-18th at the Riveria Country Club, Tiger Woods was forced to withdraw during the second round of play. He was battling the flu and was struggling to get around the course.

Unfortunately, he did not play in March, as the next time he teed off in a tournament was for The Masters at Augusta National Golf Club on April 11th-14th. He made the cut, setting the record for most consecutive in PGA Tour history, but his performance fell off in the final two rounds.

Tiger Woods ended up shooting a 16-over 304, which placed him in last among the golfers who made the 36-hole cut. During his appearance on the “Today” show on Wednesday, he provided some insight into just how challenging it was to get through that tournament.

“He completed the Masters last month but requires a “cold plunge every day, religiously” to get his body going and was “extremely sore” when he left Augusta National. Woods shot a 16-over 304 at the Masters to finish last among the 60 golfers who made the 36-hole cut,” as shared by ESPN .

During the “Today” show appearance, Tiger Woods also gave an update on how often he will be playing the remainder of the season. He is still aiming for once a month the rest of the way, with a focus on the remaining majors.

“I have basically the next three months — three majors — and hopefully that works out,” said Woods . The next major will be the PGA Championship at Valhalla in two weeks. After that, the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 begins on June 13th and The Open Championship in Scotland at Royal Troon gets underway on July 18th.

Playing in all four majors would be a feat in itself for Tiger Woods regardless of how he performs. The last time he played all of them was in 2019, and he is hoping to add a 16th major title to his trophy case.

“My goal is to ruin the logo. I want to keep ruining the logo,” Woods said , as his new logo has 15 stripes, one for every major he has won in his career to this point. Winning one of the biggest golf tournaments in the world certainly won’t be easy, as Tiger Woods has a lot to overcome, including the scorching hot play of World No. 1, Scottie Scheffler.

Tiger Woods in 2024 PGA Championship field: 15-time major champion plans to tee it up at Valhalla

Woods will play in the pga championship for the first time since 2022.

usatsi-23023621-tiger-woods-2024-masters-r4-7th-trap-1400.jpg

The 2024 PGA Championship field was released Tuesday with one name near the bottom of the alphabetical list jumping to the top of everyone's mind. Tiger Woods is officially listed among the 154 men currently anticipated to compete in the year's second major championship next week at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

Woods' inclusion in the PGA Championship marks his first appearance at the event since 2022 as he skipped last year's championship at Oak Hill due to injury.

Tiger was last seen at the Masters where he made the cut for a record-setting 24th consecutive time. After entering the weekend with an outside chance to shoot into contention, the 48-year-old backtracked over the second half of the tournament with rounds of 82-77 to finish last among those who made the cut. Despite struggling physically at times, Woods all but confirmed he would tee it up in the PGA Championship.

"This is a golf course I knew going into it, so I'm going to do my homework going forward at Pinehurst, Valhalla and [Royal] Troon, but that's kind of the game plan," Woods said Sunday at Augusta National. "It's always nice coming back here because I know the golf course, I know how to play it. I can kind of simulate shots. Granted, it's never quite the same as getting out here and doing it. Same thing, I heard there's some changes at the next couple sites. So, got to get up there early and check them out."

The 15-time major champion returns to a venue where he should have fond memories. Claiming the 2000 PGA Championship in a dramatic playoff over Bob May, Woods successfully defended his title from 1999. The victory marked Tiger's fifth major title at the time, and it also represented the third leg of the Tiger Slam. Woods missed the cut the last time the PGA Championship was held at Valhalla in 2014.

What one should expect from Woods is clear given his play over the last two years. While he hasn't played much, when he has teed off, Woods has flashed brilliance in his early rounds and fallen off as tournaments progress. This was the case in 2022 at Southern Hills where Woods opened with a 74 and clawed back with a second-round 69 to earn a weekend tee time. After carding a third-round 79, Tiger was forced to withdraw due to injury and did not see Sunday.

This has become a somewhat common occurrence for Woods since the start of 2022 as he has played in eight events withdrawing three times and missing one cut.
