Sales staff is great, but they are a bit pushy...It's like buying a car when you are there. When you leave you realize you just dropped quite a bit of money in a very short amount of time. They are extremely overpriced compared to other shops, but they don't have competition in the area. That being said, it is still a good shop. They offer 3 month financing on bikes (hey they cost a few grand) They are very involved in the community by having free bike rides virtually everyday of the week and with their bike to the moon annual campaign.

Great staff, they spend a lot of time with you and help you while trying to find the most cost efficient solutions. They also offer several free group bike rides per week.

Great bike shop. I actually had to drive 30 minutes from Stroudsburg, PA because my LBS turned me away since I had bought my MTB on-line. Not only did they not ask me where I bought my bike, they took care of my bike service needs while I waited. The service is top-notch. I'll be buying my road bike here this summer.

All they care about is getting the most money out of you possible. They charge more than other bike shops in the area and are consistently rude to customers. Don't come here

Hi Misty M. I'm sorry that you were upset when your friend came in on a busy Saturday and asked our tech to repair a flat tire with parts not purchased here on a bike not purchased here, we insisted on being paid $12.50 for our labor. I understand that your friend has "bought a lot of stuff here" but am not sure why you would feel so entitled as to actually give us a bad review because we did not want to work for free for him. The tech you were asking to work for free makes a living wage here, is a homeowner, and supports his family with what he is paid here. Does the place where you buy gas every week do free stuff for you? How about the electric company. Free power? Did your college throw in some extra courses for you for free? Do you volunteer at your job or do you rip off your employer by insisting upon a paycheck? Here's a confession: At Genesis we give a lot away for free. We pay ride leaders to lead hundreds of rides every year for free. We donate thousands in free merchandise annually for local fund-raisers. We donate a penny a mile for every mile ridden by hundreds of people who sign up for BikesGiving.com and compile a quarter-million miles annually to the Easton Children's Home every year. And yes, we even do the occasional free flat repair for homeless folks who are desperate and who don't try to extort us with threats to our reputation. The fact that you could stand in our store and post a bad review on your smartphone tells me that you are probably not desperate or homeless. And to top it off? You actually were able to bully our tech into not charging you a cent by your loud threat to "write the worst Yelp review ever" and STILL wrote the negative review. I'd like to believe that maybe you were just having a bad day and do not live a life of total entitlement. I hope that is the case and wish you all the best.

I have to say I dont understand some of the negative reviews here im a new rider and bought my first bike here. I was not pressured to buy anything. The owner and employees were fantastic and the prices are Competitive. I will continue to shop their.

I was recommended 2 bontrager tubless tires from their head mechanic. 2 weeks and cords broke on front tire. Factory defect, $62.00 lost no partial or full reimbursement or some kind of credit. Charged me $10.00 to install a new tire to replace the one that failed. No more bontrager replaced it with a GEAX GATO (Not their brand) ordered a KENDA tire weeks later for the rear and had them install it. 1 hour later my valve stem was broken, rim tape replaced,sealant oozing out all over and scratches on my wheel where the "mechanic"clearly over tightened the valve stem and tire went flat after 2 blocks. Before I left he said it was the tire and because the sealant wasn't "their brand" (Bontrager) also had something to do with it and to watch it for 24 hours... (Huh???) came in the next day and the head mechanic wanted to charge me another $35.00 on top of the $53.00 originally paid,to fix what they had already messed up... If you didn't buy a bike from them you will get screwed. They come off nice and genuinely concerned about your biking needs but all they want is to over charge you $$$. I will tell everyone on the trail about my experience with them and to not go there. I spent about $700.00 there on labor alone and this is how they treat a new loyal customer. Shame cuz I was eyeing up a trek remedy about $3500.00 and was gonna get it thru them. NOT ANY MORE. Genesis Cycles are a rip-off (Example) $4.99 for (1) 12g threaded co2 cartridge $4.99 for (1) 16g non threaded co2 "

I've read the various reviews on Genesis and I do believe it's all in your expectations and what you are looking for. I have shopped at Genesis since 2010 or so and here's what I've found: 1. Genesis is a single shop privately owned bike store with no corporate attachments or overhead. That means the shop gets the full focus of attention. I recently showed up at the store after 2 year hiatus due to a move, all 5 sales people, Tomais (shop owner), and the mechanic remembered me and my name! 2. My experience has been they strive to give a good match between customer and bike. If you want the $300 bike or the $10,000 version I'm afraid this is not the place to shop. I find HIGH quality mid-price range bicycles here. 3. I have found when I match items of same quality in various stores, prices are no more expensive. Mind you, Tomias only carries better quality items that don't have to be returned. Won't find the cheap stuff here. (When shopping on Internet for clothing it is hard sometimes to beat Internet prices) 4. Genesis does a great deal of give back to the community. I know when I shop at Genesis (usually at sale time) I know that a portion of my money does go back in some form of community enrichment. Children's Home of Easton is one of the beneficiaries I am aware of. 5. And have you checked out all the excellent free advice under the "Genesis University" tab on their website? I used the suggestions on "teaching children how to ride" with my special needs son who was fearful and having difficulty with balance. He was finally able to ride a on just a few trials! Well I guess you get my picture now. I would give them a 10 star rating!

I don't agree with the 1st 2 reviews here; you can't say it's overpriced without actually going around comparing prices (with other shops, not online). now, they do cater to the higher end of the market. there aren't any $159 bicycles there, and yes, cannondales and treks do have models up into the multi-thousand dollar range, so if you are just 'kicking tires' and looking at price tags, you might be put off. Genesis is great if you know where their strengths are, and that is family cycling. they are not a so-called 'pro shop' that has exotic frames hanging from the rafters, but instead is a full service bike shop that is geared towards recreational cyclists who want quality bicycles. you will not be intimidated by tattoo'd smug shop rats, but will be met by regular people who will spend the time with you to get you the right bicycle. they have a complete (meaning, any repair, wheelbuilding, hydraulic brake servicing, fork rebuilding, etc) service department and they stand behind their work. they've been there in downtown Easton for over 30 years, run by the same guy, they must be doing something right.

I was told by someone that this was a great place to go, but when I brought my bike there to have some work done, they were going to charge me $180 to $200 for work that The Bikeline in Bethlehem charges less than $100. Genesis shop does a lot of group rides, so if you are looking for a community with which to do rides and a really expensive bike, this might be the place for you. But if you are looking for reasonable rates for the same quality work, look elsewhere.

Hi Megan. I'm sorry that it has taken such a long time to respond to your review. Incredible as it may sound, Yelp has just recently shown up on my radar and after seeing your review for the first time, I wanted to respond. I'm a little confused as to why our estimate would be so much higher than another shop's. We do our best to keep prices competitive while attracting the best technicians with excellent benefits and wages which allow them to support their families. It is very possible that our service writer's interpretation of what you wanted taken care of was incorrect. You mentioned being told that Genesis was a great place to go. I strongly believe that to be true and hope that you will give us another opportunity to show you the value in what we offer.

EASTON, Pa. (BRAIN) — Trek Bicycle has acquired Genesis Bicycles, a single-store operator in the Lehigh Valley.

Tomias Hinchcliff opened the store in 1974 "with two bikes in a tiny storefront in downtown Easton," he said on the store website . He was 18 when the store opened.

"Today I am 65 and looking back with deep gratitude for the privilege we have had to serve our amazing community," he wrote.

On the store website, Hinchcliff wrote, "Every great ride comes to a fork in the road. After years of consideration, my wife Stephani and I have decided that the time has come to take a new and exciting path. We're excited for our next chapter, especially because we know Trek will continue to serve you in even bigger and better ways while sticking to the same core principles of treating people like family and delivering outstanding customer service."

The site said a retirement sale would begin Thursady and the store will be closed May 4-7 as trek prepares to re-open under the new ownership.

The store's website currently lists new bikes from Trek, Electra, Salsa, All-city and Jamis.
