Heady, heaving, Naples, with its mysterious Cosa Nostra and crumbling coffee cafes, is unquestionably one of Italy’s most fascinating cities. Famed for its beat-up appearance, its Centro Storico is awash with sooty statues, carved and chiselled in the likeness of saints and poets. But Napoli is definitely more devil than it is angel, and therein lies its charm. Narrow alleyways of leaning plaster facades run into open piazzas, strung and criss-crossed along the way with laundry lines and humming petrol scooters. On the port, the grubby facades of medieval strongholds, the Castel dell'Ovo and the Maschio Angioino stand defiant, menacing and strong bearing the brunt of the Mediterranean waves. Looming above the town, the great caldera of Mount Vesuvius pipes and fumes eerily to this day, still looking southwards over the Roman settlements of Pompeii and Herculaneum that it so famously annihilated in 79 AD. As any Naples tour guide will inform you, this is a town where all around the shadows and sceptres of the past linger; concealed in the alcoves of the old city, or hidden beneath the ruins in the House of the Faun. Oh, and don’t leave without trying a pizza—they are rumoured to be the best in all of Italy.

Tell us your destination, date, and group size.

Not ready to book a tour? See our  Amalfi Coast Guide for more info.

From Rome To Naples To the Amalfi Coast by Train

Train from Rome to Amalfi

If you’re planning to visit the Amalfi Coast, one of your options is to take a train from Rome to Naples. At the main Roman train station (Stazione di Roma Termini) you’ll find more than one train per hour that will take you to Naples in an hour and a half.

The main train companies that provide this service are Trenitalia and Italo train. Tickets range from €17 to €70 (one way), but they are cheaper if you book in advance!

Once in Naples, you can reach the Amalfi Coast and, more specifically, Sorrento by catching the local train (Circumvesuviana) paying only €3 or €4. Get this train right at the Naples Centrale station.

From Rome To Salerno To the Amalfi Coast by Boat

At the Roma Termini train station, jump on a train to Salerno. The company providing this service is Trenitalia, and the trip lasts two hours. Prices can vary and range from €30 to €70, depending on the time of your booking.

Once in Salerno, reaching the Amalfi Coast is simple. From the Piazza Concordia in Salerno, you can find boats that will take you to Amalfi in 35 minutes at just €8 only. Usually, there is one departure every hour, but the timetable might change, so be sure to check before going there.

From Rome To Salerno To the Amalfi Coast by Bus

Rome to Amalfi by Bus

From Salerno, you can opt for the bus instead of the boat to reach the Amalfi Coast. Departing from Rome, you can always find a train at Roma Termini train station that will get you to Salerno, where you will catch the bus to Amalfi.

In Salerno, head to the bus stop located in Via Vinciprova. The trip to Amalfi takes just over an hour. There are several buses departing throughout the day, either from Salerno or from Amalfi, and tickets cost €10 and are valid for 24 hours.

From Rome To the Amalfi Coast by Car

If you’re a confident driver and like the idea of a bit more freedom, you could rent a car in Rome and drive directly to the Amalfi Coast. There are several places in Rome where you can rent a car, the most convenient may be at the Roma Termini train station. Car prices can vary and they usually depend on how in advance you book.

In a little over three hours, you’ll reach the coast. If you are afraid to miss trains and want to feel free to leave at any time, this may be the best option for you. Just keep in mind that Amalfi Coast roads are pretty small, so opt for a smaller car instead of a big one!

From Rome To Pompei To the Amalfi Coast with a Tour

Pompeii Day Trip

If you’re planning to add some real sparkle to your Italian itinerary, you might want to consider our tour that will lead you to Pompeii first and then to Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast .

The meeting point in Rome is in Piazzale Ostiense, right outside the metro stop and under the Pyramid located in the square. Your private driver will take you to Pompeii and then on to Sorrento in a small bus, and back to Rome in the evening.

In Pompeii, you will enjoy the company of a professional archeologist who will walk you through history in this incredible place. Once in Sorrento, you will have some free time to explore the city and enjoy the Amalfi Coast vibe.

The tour will take you back to Rome in the evening, or you can organise with us to leave the tour in Sorrento where you can continue on to your Amalfi Coast accommodation by taxi.

A full-day private boat tour to Capri from Amalfi, including the Island of Capri, is the best way to experience this world-famous coastline. Arrange a personalized boat tour along the Amalfi Coast and create unforgettable memories of Italy.

Now you’ve figured out how you’re going to get to Italy’s gorgeous coast, it’s time to plan what to do once you’re there! We have a few suggestions for where to eat great local food and what to see.

Where To Eat on the Amalfi Coast

tour guy naples

When planning where to eat on the Amalfi coast, eating some fresh fish is pretty much mandatory. You’re at the sea after all! In Amalfi town, we have two great recommendations for places to enjoy the local flavors.

Da Ciccio Cielo Mare e Terra : €€€ | Terrace | Great Views | Fine Dining Experience — Here the fish is always fresh and the dishes are a mix of tradition and more gourmet concepts. People come here for the great dining experience, excellent service, and its charming atmosphere. Definitely add this place to your list.

Taverna degli Apostoli : €€ | Outside Dining | Central Location — Located in the Piazza del Duomo, this is another place you can’t miss if you want to try fresh fish and typical Italian cuisine. It’s a great spot to people-watch and soak up the local atmosphere. They also always have new tasty recipes on the menu, so take a look and try something different!

Planning a trip to the Amalfi Coast? Check out our dedicated guides on where to stay , the top things to do , and the best restaurants in this beautiful part of Italy.

What to visit on the amalfi coast.

Positano, Amalfi Coast, Italy

Once in Amalfi, you can’t miss the wonderful beach, but there’s more to see! Pay a visit to the ancient Duomo. With its stunning facade, the cathedral is worth it—but lovers be careful! According to legend, you shouldn’t hold the hand of your partner while climbing the stairs or you’ll never get married!

Just a short walk from the Duomo, continue your visit by taking a look at the beautiful Chiostro del Paradiso, a landmark connected with the Duomo and built during the 13th century. Enjoy its charming architecture and style, the astonishing frescos inside the chapels, and the amazing flora.

The Amalfi Coast is a beautiful place that still preserves its beauty and contact with nature. If you are planning a trip to Italy, taking a day to visit the Amalfi Coast is well worth it.

Address : Duomo di Amalfi | Chiostro del Paradiso

Florence Tours

The BEST Florence Tours

The number one attraction in Florence, arguably Michelangelo's David, is housed in the Accademia Gallery. There are other works of art inside Accademia, including works by Botticelli and even a Stradivarius collection of instruments commissioned by the Medici! The Cathedral of Santa Maria Del Fiore is another main attraction that can be found in the center of Florence. It was begun in the 13th century by Arnolfo di Cambio and completed almost 150 years later by Brunelleschi, who engineered an impossibly large dome. You can climb the dome by booking our Complete Florence Duomo Tour with Dome Climb below. Another incredible attraction in Florence is the Uffizi Gallery. The word Uffizi translates to "offices," which was the building's original purpose. Today, they are filled with incredible Renaissance art by Botticelli, Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Caravaggio, and unlimited other masters. You can book Uffizi Tours below by selecting an Uffizi tour or our Florence in a Day tour, including Accademia. Don't miss our authentic Florence food tour, where you’ll stroll through lively streets visiting three authentic local spots, and treat your taste buds with wine, meat, cheese, bruschetta, ribollita, and the finest olive oil, before indulging on traditional Florentine steak—and biscotti for dessert! Florence is located in the region of Tuscany, and the city is a village. This means you can go from the center of Florence and be in the Tuscany countryside within 20 minutes. Many of our trusted partners run tours to vineyards, including guided Vespa rides! Pisa and Cinque Terre are also near to Florence, which makes for great day trips if you're looking for exciting experiences to book. You can find day trips to either attraction below!

Yes, yes, yes! Florence guides are among the most passionate and spirited in all of Europe. Tours bring the city to life and take the guesswork out of your trip.

That depends on a lot, but one full day in Florence is the minimum and two is ideal if you want to visit nearby attractions like Tuscany or Pisa .
