REVIEW: 5 Island Tour, Split – Is It Worth It? (2024)

5 island tour from Split Croatia

The 5 Island Tour is probably the most popular day trip from Split, and you’ll find countless boat companies lining Split’s harbour offering their own 5 island tour. It can be a bit overwhelming knowing which one to go with!

During my 5 days in Split, I couldn’t resist joining a 5 island tour to get a taste of Croatian island hopping in the limited time I had.

The tour is a jam-packed 10-hour day , but I was eager to see some of the most beautiful places in Croatia. The tour stops off at many of the best islands to visit near Split.

As I said, there are a ton of different providers all offering Blue Cave 5 island tours from Split or Trogir, but after speaking to my hostel owner and doing extensive research I booked this 5 island tour .

Note: I was not paid by the tour company to write this review.  I paid full price for my Split 5 island boat tour with my own money, and the company had no idea that I was a blogger or planned to write about my experience after the tour.

⛵ Book your tickets here!

Here is why I chose this tour over all of the competitors:

  • Booking via Get Your Guide means you have extra protection. Their cancellation policy means you can cancel up to 24 hours before the tour for a full refund. This was ideal for me as my plans were very loose.
  • The tour is in the ‘G Originals’ category. This means it is one of the highest-rated tours on Get Your Guide, so Get Your Guide has added their stamp of approval to the tour. This is quite rare!
  • Snorkelling gear is included in the price.
  • It has a load of outstanding reviews (over 100!) so I knew I was going to have an amazing time.

Island hopping in Croatia

The downside, though, is that the tour comes in at around €115 for the day , which is definitely not cheap. My research showed that all 5 island tours from Split cost similar, though, so I guess that’s just the price.

I cringed as I handed over my money, but I’m pleased to say that it’s well worth it ! I had one of the best days ever on this tour, and highly recommend it!

Don’t just take my word for it, though. In this post, I’ll share the stops you make on the tour, what you can expect, and my review of the Split 5 Island Tour.

Top tip: What’s the correct currency for Croatia ? As of 1 January 2023 the currency in Croatia is now the Euro. All prices in this post are listed in Euros.

Stops on the Five Island Boat Tour from Split:

  • Komiža (a town on the island of Vis)
  • Blue Lagoon
  • Stiniva Beach

The order you visit the destinations depends on how much time you have and how busy the skipper thinks each destination will be.

They try to order your stops so that you’ll hit each destination at the quietest time possible . For this reason, there’s a chance you’ll head to the Blue Cave first since it can get crazy busy there.

The Boat Ride

split croatia island tour

I met my tour group in Split harbour and I was instantly happy to see that the group size was around 12 people , meaning it was fairly small. Huge tour groups suck!

I was also happy to see that people of all ages and travel styles were on the tour. As a young solo traveller, I can feel very awkward if I join a tour full of married couples.

I was glad to see there were other solo travellers, couples, families and friends all on the tour, so I didn’t feel like the odd one out.

I was also thrilled to be stepping foot on a speedboat – very fancy!

The speedboat has a sundeck section on the back, and I recommend you head straight here when you board the boat. Otherwise it’ll fill up quickly! I spent the whole journey lounging here, and it meant I definitely got the best views on the boat.

The first journey on our five island speedboat tour lasted approximately 90 minutes before you get to your first destination. Lie out on the deck, listen to some music and enjoy the journey!

It can get very windy on the journey and no matter how hot the day might be, chances are you’ll get cold on the boat. For this reason, be sure to pack both a sweater and sunscreen, which you’ll already have with you if you’ve checked out my guide to packing for Croatia.

The boat crew have windproof jackets that you can wear too, but it’s good to have a sweater to go underneath to keep warm.

Stop 1 – Komiža, on the Island of Vis

Komiza on the island of Vis

If you’re a fan of musicals, you may recognise the harbour in Komiža as one of the filming locations in Mamma Mia 2 . I haven’t seen the second movie yet, but as soon as I found out it was filmed here I was instantly excited. After all, everyone adores the picture-perfect setting of Mamma Mia!

You’ll get around 1 hour to explore this fishing village. This is just enough time to wander the harbour, dip your toes in the water of the pebble beach, and stop for a coffee whilst people watching.

I did find that cafe prices were pretty steep in Komiža, probably because it’s a growing tourist destination, so just keep that in mind.

Even with the limited time you do have at Komiža, though, there’s no doubt you’ll fall hard for this charming Mediterranean-style village . The 17th and 18th-century houses that crowd around the harbour are so idyllic that it’s easy to imagine you’re in Mamma Mia yourself!

Stop 2 – Blue Cave

Blue cave day trip in croatia

The Blue Cave is the reason most people join a Split 5 Island Tour,

Often, however, they don’t even really know what it is, or why they should go there. I certainly didn’t! I had just seen ‘BLUE CAVE’ plastered on tour advertisements in Split harbour, so I assumed it was some epic destination that I just couldn’t leave Split without visiting.

It’s funny, because the Blue Cave is (in my opinion) the worst stop on the 5 Island Tour in Croatia. That’s because SO. MANY. island hopping tours go there .

The Blue Cave is a waterlogged sea cave in a bay on the island of Biševo , about 70km from Split. Pretty much nobody lives on the island, and it’s just a base for tourists waiting to visit the Blue Cave.

You can read more about visiting the Blue Cave on my post about what to expect when visiting , but in short: expect long waits!

I waited around 2 hours . It was very hot, but there was a shaded waiting area and a bar/cafe you could pass the time in.

Since the queue goes so slowly, and your skipper will be keeping an eye on it, you’re free to explore the small island. You could also go to the small beach near the harbour, or sit in the shade reading a book.

Boats are limited to spending around 5 minutes in the Blue Cave , so it’s a brief visit to say the least. It was very cool once we were inside though.

I don’t personally think the Blue Cave was worth waiting hours for, but if I had known about the wait I’d have packed a book to pass the time.

Stop 3 – Blue Lagoon

The Blue Lagoon in Croatia

I adored visiting the Blue Lagoon, and it’s an unmissable stop on the five islands tour from Split!

Located between the Dalmatian islands of Veliki and Krknjasi, the unbelievably blue and clear waters of the Blue Lagoon keep calling to travellers. It’s a very popular place to visit!

The good news, though, is that it’s almost impossible to visit the Blue Lagoon without a boat , and this stops it from getting too crowded. The water is a brilliant shade of blue (it’s called the Blue Lagoon after all), and as clear as glass!

The main reason people visit the Blue Lagoon is to swim and snorkel, and this is where the free snorkel equipment included in the price of the tour comes in handy!

You’ll have between 1 hour and 90 minutes at the Blue Lagoon, depending on how long you spend at the Blue Cave. Be sure to make the most of your time here to swim, snorkel, and jump off the back of the boat into the water like a big kid!

The water is so freaking cold (yes, even in summer!) that it’ll definitely refresh you from the heat of the sun.

Stop 4 – Stiniva Beach

Stiniva Cove, accessible on a 5 island tour from Split

Voted the most beautiful beach in Europe by the European Best Destinations website, this hidden cove is pretty hard to get to without a boat. This means a visit to Stiniva Beach makes you one lucky traveller!

The high cliffs that surround the beach allow just a narrow ‘sea entrance’ to the cove, so your boat will dock out in the ocean. From here, you’ll have to swim through the opening to get to the beach .

The water, like everywhere in Croatia, is an unbelievably vibrant turquoise colour. You can see all the way to the bottom of the ocean with ease. Having to swim to the cove makes getting there even more rewarding!

There’s a small bar on the beach, so if you have a waterproof case to bring some cash with you then bring it! The beach, however, is a pebble beach , so it’s not too comfortable to sit on. Instead, your time at Stiniva Beach is better spent splashing and swimming in the water.

You’ll spend around 45 minutes at Stiniva Beach. This is the perfect amount of time to cool off in the ocean, crawl over the pebbles on the beach, and spend some time sunbathing.

Stop 5 – Hvar Town

Hvar Town on Hvar Island in Croatia

Hvar Town, on the island of Hvar, is a playground for both the rich and famous and down and out backpackers. I know – they’re not two groups you’d expect to mix, but it works!

I liked it so much that I actually returned the very next day for a full-day trip from Split !

If you can, you should spend at least one full day in Hvar, but visiting on the 5 Island Tour is the perfect taster to get you hooked and make you want to visit again.

Hvar will be the final stop on the 5 Island Tour, and they possibly saved the best until last. As your boat draws into the port, you’ll be blown away by the beauty of the whitewashed buildings and blue water.

Hvar Town really is a knock-out. I think you’d struggle to find a more beautiful town on the Dalmatian Coast.

Grab a late lunch at Hanibal , who make the most epic veggie pizza I’ve ever eaten, then stroll around Hvar’s stunning old town, walk up the hill to Tvrdava Fortress or wander along the coast to find a beach to lounge on for a while.

You’ll have around 1 hour 45 minutes in Hvar, so use it wisely!

It’s then time to return back to Split ( boo! ). The journey will take around 60 minutes on the speedboat, so try to get a seat on the sunlounger at the back of the boat again for the best views.

You’ll arrive back in Split just in time to see the harbour bathed in golden glowing light before sunset.

Split city at sunset

Once in Split, I recommend finishing off your amazing island hopping day by wandering along the promenade and getting a glass of Croatian wine from Maduro Bar .

FAQs About The 5 Island Tour From Split

What to pack for the 5 island tour.

  • SPF 30+ sunscreen
  • A book (to read whilst waiting at the Blue Cave)
  • Lots of water

Should I Book the 5 Island Tour or the 3 Island Tour?

If you’re researching the 5 Island Tour, chances are you’ll come across the 3 Island Tour. It’s basically a shorter and cheaper island hopping tour from Split, and you can read my full review of it here .

I actually went on both of the tours (after doing the 5 Island Tour I wanted to do even more island hopping!) but the 5 Island Tour is a million times better .

Not only is it pretty much double the duration of the 3 Island tour, but the stops are (in my opinion) more interesting. It’s far better value for money.

If you’re wondering what the differences between the two tours are, I have summarised them below:

What’s Included on the 5 Island Tour from Split?

  • Entry tickets for the Blue Cave
  • Speedboat ride
  • Skipper and guide
  • Snorkelling gear
  • Windproof jackets
  • Life jackets
  • Bottled water

Split Croatia Travel Guide

Island Tours From Split

Island tours from Split

Visiting Split Croatia without taking on of many islands tours from Split, will be your biggest mistake . I’m sure no one will think of giving up such an opportunity. Split as one of the busiest harbors along the Adriatic coast, is the perfect starting point for a memorable island-hopping adventure.

I’ve always been convinced that Split should be your Croatia holiday launching point for a longer stay. From Split you can undertake many different day trips around Split islands archipelago.

The most popular way to explore Split islands is by boat, sailing between islands to explore picturesque port towns and coastal cities. Instead taking organized one day tours, you can visit these islands by ferry boat, on your own.

It’s perhaps the cheapest option, unless you travel by car (car fares for ferry are rather high). But, on the other hand it’s also the most limiting option if you are short in time.

Sailing or taking fast speed boats is perhaps the best option. And, it doesn’t have to be expensive. There are various agencies offering a daily sailing trip to the islands. The prices vary from 80 € to 120 € per person, depending on a size and a style of the boat, and the season. The most of tours last from 8 to 12 hours.

One Day Island Tours From Split

There are four amazing islands in front of Split city that make perfect day trips from Split. I have sorted all of them below! If you examine islands map below, you’ll notice that two islands are just in front of Split harbor. Both Brac and smaller Solta islands are visible from any point of the city. They are first row of the islands.

The second row of islands are Hvar and Vis. Hvar island is one of the most popular islands in central Dalmatia. The only island with more than 2.500 sunny hours per year, that makes it perfect summer destination. Vis is the farthest island from Split with the most beautiful natural scenery in Croatia – the memorable Blue Cave on Bisevo island.

One day islands trips from Split

Vis island and blue cave.

Blue Cave tours from Split

Blue Cave on the lovely Bisevo Island is the most popular tour from Split. This tour is usually organized in combination with visit to town of Hvar and a group of Pakleni islands that spread in front of Hvar town harbor.

There are several version of this tour. Whatever version you decide on, you’ll be amazed when you witness this unique natural phenomenon. Extraordinary game of light created by the sun-rays crawling into the cave will create a never-to-be-forgotten event.

You can opt for these tours:

  • Blue Cave and 5 islands trip from Split – including a visit of Blue Cave, Komiza (Vis island) fishermen village, Stoncica Bay sandy beach. The tour lasts 10 hours.
  • A similar excursion to Blue Cave that includes a visit to Hvar town starts from Split or Trogir – includes also Stiniva Cove on the island of Vis and Hvar Town at leisure. It lasts 12 hours.
  • Blue Cave and popular islands on this tour starts from Split by brand new boat and stop for sightseeing, swimming and snorkeling. It lasts 10 hours.
  • Next tour offers a full day to Blu Cave and additional half day to island of Budikovac and Hvar Palmizana bay . This tour starts from Split and lasts 10 hours.

Brac Island Day Trip from Split

Brac island day tour

Brac island is the closest island to Split city. It is only 45 minutes ride by ferry boat from Split harbor. The closest ferry port is at Supetar, on the island’s north coast, almost directly opposite Split.

On the south side of the island of Brac, near Bol village there is Croatia’s most spectacular pebble beach, known as the Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) . The beach has a unique shape, like a white tongue stretched into the sea. It is unique also for the fact that it changes shape and position, depending on the wind.

To get to Bol village and to admire this unique beach, you can take a fast catamaran boat from Split that runs daily from June 1st to September 29th. Unfortunately catamaran time table is rather flaky (It leaves daily at 04:30 PM) what makes impossible for a one full day excursion.

As a good alternative from Split you can book a day tour to Brac island:

  • Catamaran Cruise to Brac Island – Cruise the Dalmatian Coast aboard a catamaran from Split. Enjoy charming island of Brac and discover the beauty of Golden Horn Beach. Swim in the beautiful blue waters of the hidden bays and enjoy free drinks all day! This tour lasts 10 hours!
  • The second tour is a combination of two islands – island hopping tour visiting Brac island (Bol and Golden Horn beach), and Hvar island (Pakleni islands) and Milna on Brac.

Blue Lagoon and Solta island

Blue lagoon on Drvenik island

Many visitors are not familiar with this Caribbean style lagoon. It located on small island Drvenik Veli (veli means big) as there is also a small Drvenik. Both islands are very close to Solta island and the only way is to take one of day tours, either from Split or Trogir town.

It’s enough to see the above image to realize the beauty and the scenery you’re going to admire. If you are looking for a memorable beach experience away from the tourist crowds a tour to the spectacular Blue Lagoon, is a paradise place.

I recommend following half and full day excursions:

Hvar day tours from Split

Hvar tow Pakleni islands

Hvar island is for sure the most visited island among Split archipelago. It’s the only islands with very frequent ferry connections. Only Hvar town has no ferry connections. For visitors who prefer to visit Hvar town on their own I suggest fast catamaran line No. 9604S that runs daily from Split. Check Jadrolinija company sailing timetable.

There are many organized day trips from Split to Hvar town and its famous Pakleni Islands. The most of them are in combination with trips to Vis island (Blue Cave) and to Brac island (Golden Cape).

One of the most popular trips is a full-day catamaran cruise to Hvar and Pakleni Islands. It’s a perfect to explore Hvar’s old town and stop to swim in peaceful bays before returning to Split. It lasts 11 hours.

What Others Say About us

" We took several tours with this agency: Krka waterfalls, Blue cave and Plitvice lakes. Staff members were very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. They brought what we saw to life with historical perspective and contemporary knowledge."

Charlie F , May 2019 Viator review

" This was a great day all round, well structured with something for everyone! At no point did we feel rushed, it was incredibly civilized and great value for money! I would highly recommend this trip! Many thanks again to Tonko for such a special day!"

Katy S, Sep 2018 TripAdvisor review

" This was a good way to see and do many more things during a day than would have been possible on my own. Everything was well organized and Tonko was an excellent guide, precise and evidently with a lot of experience in his job."

Linda, Oct 2019 Airbnb review

"We usually do not do guided tours when visiting national parks, but this one allowed us to visit cities we would have never stopped to see. We were able to see and learn so much in one day. I highly recommend doing this tour."

Jomo 1357 , Oct 2019 TripAdvisor review

" An excellent experience for such a great price! I couldn't believe how much the tour included. Each part of the tour would have been great individually, but the fact that you do all of them in one day makes this such an amazing value"

Ian C, Sep 23 2018 Expedia review

Guide to Island Hopping Tours from Split

Bisevo Island (Blue Cave)

1. Biševo Island (Blue Cave)

Probably the highlight of this tour, the Biševo island is the home of the popular Blue Cave. The small cave is approachable only from the sea, and due to the reflection of the sunlight through underwater openings, the whole cave is painted and sparkling in a beautiful blue color. The cave can be sometimes closed due to bad weather (but you will be informed about it before you take the tour). Since the weather is usually the best early in the morning, and the lightning in the cave is also the best during the morning, this is usually the first stop of any island hopping tour. The visits are organized by smaller boats that are waiting for you there. Sometimes there are queues when entering the cave so have some patience :) Most of the tours include the price of the entrance ticket to the Blue Cave.

Vis Island (Stiniva bay & Komiza)

2. Vis Island (Stiniva bay & Komiža)

The Vis Island is a bigger island having several smaller cities and has a regular ferry line connecting the island to Split. Some tours will stop in the small village Komiža for a quick coffee break, but most of the tours take you to visit the famous Stiniva bay, which won several awards for being one of the most beautiful bays in the world. The above image is of Stiniva Beach. As it is a very small bay, you will not be able to enter the bay with the boat, but the boats will stop in front of the bay and you will have the opportunity to take a swim there.

Ravnik Island (Green Cave)

3. Ravnik Island (Green Cave)

The Ravnik Island is the home of the Green Cave. Another very nice cave that is frequently visited. In 2017 started charging the entrance fee (about 10€ per person), and this entrance fee is usually not included in the price of the tour. The Green Cave is a bit bigger then the Blue Cave and a plus is also that swimming is not prohibited, so fee free to jump in :)

Budikovac Island

4. Budikovac Island

Due to the amazing beach and crystal clear sea, the Budikovac Island is a popular stop for swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing during this full day island hopping tours. The island is uninhabitable and visited only by boat trippers, which makes it even more relaxing.

Hells Islands (Palmizana Bay)

5. Hell's Islands (Palmižana Bay)

In front of the city of Hvar lays the Hells Islands (locally Pakleni otoci). They are a very famous destinations for yachts and other private boats as they offer many bays and one of the best fish restaurants are situated here. Some tours will stop in the most famous bay of the Hell's Islands, called Palmižana. Here you will have the opportunity to have lunch but note that the restaurants here are a bit pricier then what you might expect.

Hvar Island (Hvar)

6. Hvar Island (Hvar)

The city of Hvar, situated on the Island having the same name, is one of the most popular island tourist destination in Croatia. Due to it's position, Hvar has a lot of history and ancient buildings and fortresses. You will probably not have a lot of time to explore Hvar but enough to stroll along it's main streets and get to feel the atmosphere of this vibrant tourist destination. If the timing of the tour is right, you might be able to visit the Fortica fortress in Hvar, but it's not guaranteed that you will have enough time.

Table of Contents

What To consider when planning Day Trips from Split, Croatia?

Split is a great choice if you want a central place to stay in Croatia to explore the country’s major landmarks!

With a historic old town, diverse dining options, nightlife, beaches, central location, and accessible flights from various cities, Split offers a perfect base for day trips to stunning nearby locations.

When planning your excursions from Split, Croatia, there are a few key factors to remember.

1. What are your interests?

Are you interested in history, nature, or adventure? Do you prefer a leisurely pace or more physically demanding activities? This will help narrow down the available options and ensure that you have an enjoyable experience.

If you’re interested in history and culture, you could visit the ancient city of Trogir , Solin, or the medieval Klis Fortress.

If you love nature and outdoor activities, you could take an ATV ride in the Kozjak mountains , kayak on the Cetina River, or sail to the nearby islands.

If you’re looking for relaxation and beaches, you could spend a day at the Blue Lagoon, Zlatni Rat beach on Brač Island , or relax on the beaches of Hvar Island.

2. How much time do you have?

There are day trips, half-day trips, and even multi-day excursions available from Split, Croatia . Consider how much time you want to spend on each excursion and how many excursions you want to fit into your trip.

Some day trips, like a visit to Klis Fortress , or Trogir are shorter and closer to Split, while others, such as a Day Trip to Plitvice Lakes or Dubrovnik, require more travel time.

3. What is your budget?

Budget is an important factor to consider when deciding on day trips from Split. Prices for excursions can vary depending on the length of the trip, the activities included, and the transportation options.

For example, a half-day trip to the Blue Lagoon costs about €50 ($55, £ 43) per person, with a boat ride, snorkeling in clear waters, and beach relaxation.

A full-day 5 Islands tour, including visits to the Blue Cave and Hvar, is €100 to €150 ($110-$164, £ 86- £ 130) per person depending on season.

Rafting along Cetina River gorge offers a thrilling view of Croatia’s landscape for €40 to €60 ($44-$66, £ 34- £ 51), depending on transportation inclusion.

Decide how much you want to spend on excursions and choose options that fit your budget.

4. How do you want to go on your day trips?

You can go on your excursions by your own transportation, by public transportation, or by joining a guided tour.

Consider how comfortable you are with each mode of transportation and choose the option that best suits you.

Having your own transportation, such as a rental car, gives you the most flexibility, but it can be a hassle on some trips that require navigating ferry schedules, finding parking in busy urban areas, or driving on unfamiliar roads.

Public transport is the cheapest option, but may not take you everywhere.

Organized tours are stress-free and provide local insights. Opt for private or semi-private tours to avoid crowding in larger groups.

All jokes aside, rafting on the Cetina River is a must. It doesn’t take any previous experience to do this tour. The course is 4-hours long, but it’s not all paddling. It also includes a few short stops along the way for swimming (only for those who don’t fret cold waters), cliff jumping, and resting.

We recommend this rafting tour with cliff jumping!

Many agencies offer rafting on the river, with a transfer from and to Split. Prices go from €50 ($55, £43) without a transfer to €70 (77 $, £60) with transfer included .

15. Zip-line over Cetina Canyon

A woman hanging on zip line over Cetina canyon

Note for all: For those who haven’t done it yet – zip-lining is awesome! For those who have done it already – you know what I’m talking about!

When in Split, don’t miss on zip-lining across the Cetina River Canyon . The site is a short 20 km ride from Split (in summer it takes 45 minutes by car because of heavy traffic between Split and Omis).

Once there, you’ll have a choice of eight lines , each of different lengths, heights, and speeds. At the fastest wire, you can catch a speed of up to 65 km per hour. All that while hanging 150 m above the ground and admiring fantastic views over the canyon.

Do a tour on your own if you have a car to reach the site. But make sure you book at least two days in advance. You can do so through the Zip-line Croatia website . The price is 65€ ($72, £56) per person.

If you’d rather have organized transport, consider a guided tour. We recommend this Cetina River Zipline Experience !

16. Canyoning

If you search for even more adrenaline rush than rafting, zip-lining, or sky-diving, try canyoning during your time in Split?

A short drive from Split, you can choose between two sites to try your hand at canyoning: Badnjevica, and Cetina.

Badnjevica is more popular among locals than tourists. It’s a lovely canyon of river Suvaja, in Imotski region.

Canyoning in Badnjevica includes hiking through the forest and shallow water, abseiling down a 17 m-long waterfall, swimming, and cliff jumping. You can find more info on the Split Adventures website .

Cetina canyoning is one of the best outdoor activities near Split. You can choose between standard and extreme canyoning. Both tours start in the village of Zadvarje where you get a safety brief.

Afterward, guides take you to the starting point where you start the adventure with repelling down a cliff into the water.

The tours combine some hiking, rope lowering, cliff jumping, swimming, and floating down the river pushed by streams, and rapids.

Bear in mind that the tour takes around 5 hours (including a transfer from and to Split). Bring a good pair of hiking shoes , the rest of the equipment is provided (even shoes are provided, but we prefer wearing our shoes).

The temperature of the water is anywhere between 15 °C and 17 °C, depending on the season.

Lots of agencies offer this day trip, like Adventure Dalmatia, and Split Adventure.

Prices go from €50 ($55, £43) without a transfer to €70 (77 $, £60) with transfer included.

The prices for standard canyoning on Cetina River go from €50 ($55, £43) per person without transfer to €70 (77 $, £60) per person with transfer from Split included.

Cetina River extreme canyoning , on the other hand, costs €75 ($83, £64) per person without transfer, or €95 ($105, £81) per person with transfer included.

17. Canoe safari

You must have figured out by now that Cetina River is THE place for outdoor enthusiasts visiting Split, Croatia.

Canoe safari is basically rafting in calm waters, and in summer, waters on Cetina are rather calm. This means that canoe safari is more appropriate than rafting at this time of the year.

The canoe safari tour lasts a bit less than four hours, but worry not, you don’t spend all the time paddling. The course is just over ten kilometers, and it includes a few swimming stops along the way.

Prices start at €45 ($50, £39) per person. Check availability here!

18. River tubing

When you feel lazy but still want to experience some outdoor activities, river tubing comes as an ideal adventure.

River tubing on Cetina River is fun. It requires a minimum fitness level (Yay for that!) . And if you are anything like me, you prefer sports that include lying down.

River tubing happens at a calm part of river Cetina, along a 3 km long course . There are few rapids to push you down the stream, but for the rest you’ll be floating down the river, relaxing in your tube, admiring lovely scenery.

19. Explore the countryside with ATV

ATV quads, mount Kozjak, Split Croatia

A quad ride through the abandoned villages in the mountains above Split is another adventure in Split worth taking. The ride gives you an opportunity to experience a different Croatia, far from the main tourist sites.

You’ll drive through half-abandoned villages , stop at the heights of mountains for spectacular views , and end your tour with a lovely picnic before heading back to Split.

20. Jeep Safari

Two jeeps on a path in Mosor Mountain

We’ve just given you an idea of hiking Mosor Mountain. But, maybe you aren’t keen on hiking unknown mountains on your own. Or, you aren’t in shape for hiking at all. Still, you too would like to experience Split’s hinterland  and fresh mountainous air. Don’t worry!

Get onboard a jeep, for an exciting ride on Mosor Mountain. The tour takes you along the south slopes of Mosor to the abandoned villages in the hinterland. You’ll also have a chance to experience an off-road drive along the mountain, as well as to visit some typical villages and enjoy a BBQ by the river. Highly recommended! More information here …
