  • Night Safaris

a guide to night safaris in Africa

After the sun sets, night safaris take over from typical game drives. Started by the fantastic Singapore Zoo in 1994, they have become increasingly popular over the last few years. On top of the excitement of a safari experience, the advantage of night safaris is that tourists get a unique chance to see nocturnal animals when they’re at their most active. Instead of watching a big cat snooze in the sun, for example, you’ll be able to glimpse their hunting patterns and routines! You could also spot creatures that rarely appear during the day, from aardvarks to genets.

When evening falls in hot destinations, the setting sun takes away much of the overpowering heat of the day – another advantage of heading out into the bush or rainforest at night. The anticipation will start to build as darkness comes when the calls of animals and birds increase to the backdrop of a vibrant, colorful sunset. Nothing beats sitting with a sundowner and waiting for your night safari adventure to begin! Sometimes, an afternoon game drive will be interrupted for cocktails with the sunset before visitors continue with a night drive and head back to camp for dinner.

On a night safari in Africa, you could be lucky enough to see lions preparing for their evening hunt and setting off into the bush for a kill. A leopard might be spotted on a nearby tree or bushbabies taking a leap from branch to branch through the canopy, whilst elephants trudge silently through the moonlight.

Unfortunately, only camps and lodges on private land outside the boundaries of national parks are able to offer night safaris. But these top night drive safari destinations will be sure to offer excitement!

Top Destinations for Night Safaris

Abu Camp, Botswana

Named after a legendary elephant, Abu , this unique camp in the Okavanga Delta in Botswana offers one of the best experiences for interacting closely with elephants. Go for an afternoon elephant ride through the Delta for a unique perspective on the wildlife, followed by an exciting night drive through an area rich in game and nocturnal hunters like lions and leopards.

Leopard Hills

In the famous Sabi Sand Private Reserve near the Kruger Park, this private resort is both the perfect place for sundowners with a view and a great location for a night drive. The huge diversity of wildlife means you’ll be sure to spot some wonderful animals and the knowledgeable guides and trackers will be able to illuminate a host of nocturnal species on a night safari.

The Night Safari Zoo, Singapore

The world’s first nocturnal zoo, the vast Singapore attraction has over 1,000 species in an open-air tropical rainforest setting. Unlike traditional zoos, it offers animals the natural habitat and day-night cycle which they would use in the wild.

It’s obviously not in Africa, but is a pretty special experience. Highlights include rare species such as tarsiers and Indian rhinos and the atmospheric lighting (similar to moonlight) spotlights animals without disturbing their behavior  Visitors can soak up the atmosphere of the rainforest on foot via one of the walking trails or by tram; the animals are separated by natural barriers rather than typical prison-like cages for a real safari experience.

Night Safari Tips

  • Rules and regulations restrict where a night drive can take place in Africa. Be sure to check before travelling that the camp or reserve where you’re staying offers night safaris to avoid disappointment.
  • Some safari camps have floodlit waterholes where you can spend a lot of time watching the comings and goings around this central area, rather than just driving from one place to the next to spot different species.
  • Even in the middle of summer, the temperature drops fast after the sun sets so wrap up warm for a night drive. Dress in layers that can be easily taken off or added if you’re going out during both the afternoon and evening.
  • Just like on a regular game drive , keep noise and movements in the vehicle to a minimum for a better chance to spot animals and observe their actions.

Night Safari Photography Tips

Taking photos on a night drive can be challenging (see our post of safari photo tips). Many camps use red filter spotlights for illuminating animals as it’s much better for the animals and does not affect their night vision in the same way as white light. Camera flashes will also be prohibited as they can disturb the night. However, with a modern digital camera, it’s easy to brighten your ‘red’ image with the help of a computer editing program afterward.

  • Firstly, increase the sensitivity (ISO) on your camera to 1600 or more.
  • Adjust the aperture to the maximum setting, such as 2.8 or 4.0.
  • Change the shutter speed to 1/40.
  • Turn off the flash.
  • On a computer, remove the red tint by adjusting the colour.
  • Add a sepia or black and white tone to improve the overall quality.

Top Tips for Enjoying a Night Safari in Africa

safari nightly

After dark, the African bush becomes a place of sharpened senses, where predators roam and the darkness reverberates with strange calls and unexplained rustlings. The animals that wake with the moon are different to those seen during the day, and most of them are players in a fight for survival that lasts until morning. Night safaris offer a unique opportunity to explore this alternative world, and to experience firsthand the untamed drama of life after sundown. In this article, we take a look at a few top tips for getting the most out of your night drive experience.

Spotting Wildlife

By definition, spotting wildlife at night is a completely different ball game to looking for animals during the day. After dark, colors fade into a myriad shades of gray and your vision reaches only as far as the beam of your flashlight. Night drive vehicles are equipped with spotlights, which the guide uses to scan the bush and illuminate passing animals. Sometimes, guides will allow you to bring your own flashlight. Ask for permission in advance, and opt for a spotlight with a strong, focused beam. Even if you can’t bring your own light, you can help the guide in his search. Follow the torchlight carefully, making sure to scan upwards into the trees as well.

Find out about the area’s nocturnal animals before the night drive so that you know where to look, and how to identify animals when you see them. Keep an eye out for eyes shining in the torchlight, and for irregular or moving shadows. Don’t expect to witness a lion kill or to spot a leopard on the prowl on your first outing. Often, night safaris are about smaller species that are rarely seen during the day, including hares, porcupines, bushbabies, genets and small felines . For birders , night safaris offer the opportunity to add nocturnal species to your life list. In particular, keep an eye out for owls, nightjars, night herons, and thick-knees.

What to Bring

Staying comfortable is key to enjoying your night drive experience. Make sure to douse yourself liberally with insect repellent before departure, as mosquitoes are often most active at dusk. This is especially important if you’re staying in an area afflicted by mosquito-borne diseases like malaria or yellow fever . Dressing warmly is important, and a warm hat, gloves, and even blankets all come in handy on a night safari. Don’t be fooled by hot daytime temperatures or by the fact that most night safaris start before dusk. Once the sun sets, most destinations get cool rapidly. A flask of coffee serves the dual purpose of keeping you warm and counteracting the drowsy effect of driving at night. Don’t forget to pack your binoculars, and your camera if you have one.

Taking Photos at Night

Taking photos at night is tricky, and in some cases, impossible. However, while the lack of natural light undoubtedly impedes your ability to achieve good shots , there are a few tricks that might make the task easier. A flash (whether it’s inbuilt or external) provides an obvious solution to the light problem, but in most cases, using flash disturbs nocturnal animals and is not allowed. Instead, use your camera’s settings to capitalize on the light available to you, whether it’s the torchlight, the light of the full moon, or the last touches of sunlight before full dark. If you’re using a compact camera, make sure to select the inbuilt ‘night’ setting. You’ll need to hold the camera as still as possible to avoid blurry photos when you’re shooting without a flash.

Tripods, monopods, and beanbags all help to reduce camera shake, but are only effective when the vehicle is at a standstill. If you’re shooting with a DSLR, set your camera to manual mode. Set the f-stop to the lowest number possible, in order to increase aperture size and allow more light to reach the camera sensor. Longer shutter speeds also allow for more light; however, the longer your exposure is, the more blurry moving subjects will be. Often, the best option when shooting at night is to hike up your ISO . The higher your ISO is, the grainier your photos will be; but this is your best chance of achieving enough light to capture your night drive experiences on camera. If an animal comes close to the vehicle, use the illumination from the guide’s beam to light your shot.

Rules and Regulations

In order to keep you safe and to limit the disturbance to nocturnal wildlife, night drives throughout Africa are usually led by professional guides. Very few places, if any, allow you to self-drive at night. This means that very young children may not be able to take part, since most guided game drives have a minimum age requirement of at least 6 years old. Some national parks (especially in Kenya and Tanzania ) have banned night drives altogether because of the difficulty of monitoring which vehicles are legitimate and which belong to poachers operating under the cover of darkness. If you would like to experience an after-dark safari in these countries, make sure to spend at least one night in a private game reserve or conservancy .

And Lastly…

Night drives offer a completely different perspective to daytime safaris, and for many of us, they represent the ultimate African adventure. As always sightings can’t be guaranteed, but if you treat the experience as an opportunity to immerse yourself in the wild world of the bush after dark, any animals that you spot are simply an added bonus.

The ‘most successful Safari Night yet’: Honoring the California Grizzly

F RESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The Fresno Chaffee Zoo celebrated its “most successful Safari Night yet” bringing awareness to California’s state symbol, the California Grizzly Bear.

Safari Night is an annual benefit that the zoo says brought about 700 guests in total Friday night.

“It was a spectacular night where we celebrated all the Zoo has accomplished and built excitement for the first phase of our master plan, the California experience, Sierras to the Sea,” said Fresno Chaffee Zoo CEO and Director, Jon Forrest Dohlin.

As next year marks the 100 anniversary of the extinction of the California Grizzly, zoo officials state they are doing what they can to help encourage the public to find ways people and wildlife can thrive together.

“Our team is currently planning to collaborate with accredited zoos and aquariums throughout the state to create public awareness through events, lectures, social media, and legislation with the hopes that this anniversary will honor something lost but also start the effort of finding ways for people and wildlife to thrive together,” Dohlin explained.

The zoo also celebrated its Centennial Campaign, which commemorates the Chaffee Zoo’s 100 years of service to the Central Valley from 1929 to 2029.

“The Zoo remains a renowned and respected destination for learning and wonderment and a leader in conservation efforts for future generations,” said Kyle Kirkland, Fresno Chaffee Zoo Board Chair who chaired the campaign.

Anyone seeking to be a part of the Chaffee Zoo’s master plan and Centennial Campaign can reach out to [email protected] for more information.

Nocturnal African Wildlife: Beauty of Night Safari Adventures

Nocturnal African Wildlife

Posted on December 10, 2023

Embark on night safari adventures and uncover the hidden wonders of nocturnal African wildlife. In this unique setting, animals that shy away from the daylight emerge, offering a rare glimpse into their lives. We will guide and inspire those eager to experience the magic of nocturnal safaris . Here, the darkness becomes an ally, revealing the unseen and allowing you to witness the untold stories of Africa’s wilderness. This introduction sets the stage for an adventure unlike any other, inviting you to explore the enchanting night-time safari experience.

What Makes Night Safaris Unique

Exploring the African wilderness under the cover of darkness offers a thrilling twist to traditional wildlife watching. At night, a different world emerges, one where nocturnal creatures become the main characters. The moonlight and stars illuminate the landscape, creating a mysterious atmosphere.

In these hours, you can witness behaviors unseen during the day. Predators like lions and hyenas start their hunt, relying on the darkness for sneakiness. You will hear unique sounds: the distant roar of a lion, the laugh-like call of a hyena, and the rustling of small creatures in the underbrush.

Expeditions of nocturnal African wildlife also present a rare chance to observe the interplay of light and shadow in the wild. The occasional flash of eyes in the headlights or the silhouette of an animal against the moonlit sky adds an element of surprise and wonder.

Every nocturnal experience is a unique adventure, inviting explorers to come into contact with the African bush in a profoundly different way. This exploration isn’t just a mere outing; it’s an opportunity to witness the heart of Africa in its most raw and real form.

Explorers are invited to experience the nocturnal African wildlife in a completely new way.

Preparing for Your Night Safari

To enhance your nocturnal African wildlife experience, you should carefully prepare.

First and foremost, select the appropriate gear:

  • Opt for comfortable, warm clothing, as temperatures can drop significantly after sunset.
  • Include a sturdy pair of shoes for navigating uneven terrain.
  • A reliable flashlight, headlamp, and extra batteries are crucial for visibility.
  • Packaging light is key; you want to move easily and quietly to avoid disturbing the wildlife.

Store What You Don’t Need

Storage solutions might become essential, especially if you’re traveling from afar. According to Good Neighbors Moving Company Los Angeles , using storage for items unnecessary for your nocturnal excursion is a solid idea. Securely store bulky luggage or non-essential gear. This approach keeps your travel streamlined and focused on the essentials for your nocturnal adventure.

Safety Considerations

Always follow the guide’s instructions. They know the terrain and animal behavior best. Stay inside the vehicle unless advised otherwise. Avoid loud noises or sudden movements; these can startle the animals and disrupt their natural behavior.

What about Snacks?

Hydration is vital, so pack enough water to last the entire safari. Bring light snacks, but avoid anything too fragrant that might attract unwanted wildlife attention.

Respect the Ecosystem

Finally, embrace respect for the environment. Stick to designated paths and avoid littering. Your actions can significantly impact the delicate nocturnal ecosystem.

Top Destinations for Night Safari Adventures in Africa

Embarking on a safari to witness nocturnal African wildlife unveils a mysterious world where the wilderness thrives. Each destination offers a unique spectacle, making night safaris an unforgettable experience. Here are some top spots for these after-dark adventures.

Kruger National Park, South Africa

Night safari adventures in Kruger Park reveal the untamed life of nocturnal predators like lions and leopards. The darkness amplifies the sounds of the wild, creating a thrilling atmosphere. Your guide, armed with spotlights, uncovers the hidden secrets of the night, offering glimpses of creatures that shy away from daylight.

Maasai Mara, Kenya

While renowned for its daytime wildlife, Maasai Mara also presents an extraordinary nocturnal scene. The vast savannah buzzes with life after sunset, echoing the calls of hyenas and nocturnal birds. This sensory journey is a stark contrast to the daytime experience, showcasing the unseen side of the savannah.

Chobe National Park, Botswana

In Chobe, night safaris are a gateway to witnessing unique nocturnal animals like bush babies and nightjars. The park’s proximity to water bodies brings an additional thrill, with potential sightings of hippos and crocodiles under moonlit skies.

South Luangwa National Park, Zambia

This park, a pioneer in walking safaris, also excels in nocturnal wildlife encounters. Its rich biodiversity includes creatures like civets and genets, often overlooked during the day. Experienced guides here specialize in tracking these elusive night dwellers.

Tarangire National Park, Tanzania

Tarangire transforms into a mystical land at night, with elephants and nocturnal animals like porcupines taking center stage. The clear, unpolluted night sky enhances the enchantment, offering a twinkling star backdrop.

Wildlife Spotlight: Nocturnal Animals to Look For

Night safari adventures in the heart of Africa unveil a world rarely seen by the human eye. As darkness envelopes the landscape, a different set of creatures emerge, transforming the nocturnal wilderness into a living, breathing spectacle. Here, we spotlight some of the fascinating animals to look out for during your twilight escapades.

Firstly, the elusive leopard, an icon of African night safaris, commands attention. These solitary predators prowl under the moon’s glow, utilizing their exceptional camouflage and stealth. Observing a leopard on the hunt is a rare and thrilling experience, offering a glimpse into the raw and unfiltered side of nature.

Transitioning to the smaller yet equally intriguing, the nocturnal bushbaby is a must-see. With their large, saucer-like eyes and agile movements, these tiny primates leap through the treetops, their distinctive calls piercing the still night air.

African Wildcat

The African wildcat, a distant relative of domestic cats, showcases its hunting prowess at night. These felines move with graceful stealth, expertly navigating the darkness to stalk their prey. Spotting one is a testament to the diverse wildlife thriving in Africa’s nocturnal realm.

The sounds of the African night are not complete without the haunting laugh of the hyena. Often misunderstood, these intelligent and social animals play a crucial role in the ecosystem. Witnessing their interactions and complex social structures under the stars is an unforgettable part of any night safari.

The night wouldn’t be complete without the majestic African elephant. While mostly active during the day, these gentle giants occasionally roam under the starlit sky, offering a serene and awe-inspiring sight.

Each of these animals adds a unique layer to the nocturnal African wilderness. So, keep your eyes and ears open, and let the wonders of the night reveal themselves in their natural, unspoiled beauty.

The Night Safari Experience: A Personal Account

Going on a night safari is an incredible experience. As night falls, the sounds of nocturnal animals fill the air, creating a mysterious and exciting atmosphere. With every step, you feel more excited and alert.

Every little sound and movement might be a wild animal during this night journey. Your guide uses a spotlight to show hidden animals like glowing eyes in the dark, a quietly walking leopard, or a silently flying owl. Everything feels more intense at night – your heart races when you see a hyena’s shadow or hear a lion roar in the distance.

The darkness of night helps you feel a deep connection to nature and lets you see things you can’t see in the daytime. Seeing these wild animals up close creates a strong bond and respect for them. Every encounter, whether short or long, leaves a lasting impression.

This night-time experience changes how you think about safaris. It’s not just about watching wildlife; it’s about feeling the wild, vibrant life of the African night.

Capturing nocturnal African wildlife demands the appropriate methods and a keen eye.

Photography Tips for Capturing Nocturnal African Wildlife

Capturing nocturnal wildlife in Africa’s wilderness requires a keen eye and the right techniques . Follow some basic instructions:

  • Adjust your camera settings to suit low-light conditions. Increase the ISO, but be mindful of graininess.
  • Utilize a wide aperture to allow more light into the lens. A tripod is crucial for stability, especially with longer exposure times.
  • Focus on understanding animal behavior. Patience is key. Animals like leopards or hyenas move unpredictably, so anticipate their movements. Practice silent observation; sudden movements can disturb these creatures of the night.
  • Experiment with different angles and compositions. Sometimes, a silhouette against the moonlit sky can be more striking than a fully illuminated shot.
  • Use artificial lighting carefully. A soft, diffused light can highlight an animal without causing disturbance.
  • Respect the wildlife and their habitat. Keep a safe distance and avoid any action that could alter their natural behavior. Your goal is to capture the raw, unfiltered essence of Africa’s nocturnal wonders, preserving the magic of the night for all to see.

Closing Thoughts

Night safari adventures transform your perception of nocturnal African wildlife. Every step draws you into the secretive lives of majestic creatures. These expeditions are not merely trips; they’re enlightening journeys into nature’s hidden wonders. So, gather your adventurous spirit and step into the moonlight; the nocturnal realm of Africa eagerly awaits your arrival.

No Safari Is Complete Without a Night Game Drive—Here Are 10 of the Best

By Stephanie Vermillion

Shivers sped down my spine as a hyena crept into our Jeep’s headlights in the night. Then another hyena joined, and further back, we saw a third and fourth set of eyes. We heard piercing cackles, and our safari guide Kebby Arabang, resident tour director for Abercrombie & Kent in Botswana, told us it was a hyena calling for back up in a stand-off with a lion.

We knew the lion—a lone male gorging on buffaloes near camp. We’d also seen the hyena—their den, their cubs, and their paw prints by my tent. I enjoyed dozens of game drives throughout my time in Botswana, but none left me as awestruck as this twilight expedition.

Around the world, a growing number of lodges now offer night safaris for travelers. These trips pair the animal kingdom’s after-dark excitement—up to 70 percent of species are active from dusk to dawn, after all—with a soft place to land and dine between excursions.

Ready to book your adventure? Here are 10 of our favorite night safaris for watching wildlife via night-vision binoculars in Tanzania, exploring the moonlit Amazon via canoe, and more.

See the Okavango Delta after dusk

Okavango delta, botswana.

Botswana’s vast Okavango Delta is home to hundreds of diverse species, including many after-dark revelers: hyenas, lions, leopards, bush babies, and pangolins, to name a few. Night safaris aren’t allowed everywhere in the delta, but you can enjoy one with a stay at  Sanctuary Retreats’ Stanley’s Camp —the site of my eye-popping night drive on  A&K’s Botswana Safari in Style itinerary. The luxe tented camp flings you into the wild, with porches and a plunge pool overlooking a watering hole, plus inventive local and international cuisine made even more enjoyable by the soundtrack of nearby hippo grunts. The property’s private concession surrounds provide guests the opportunities for unique Okavango Delta experiences, from night drives to walking safaris.

The new  Usangu Expedition Camp in southern Tanzania’s Ruaha National Park centers on citizen science, from big-cat collaring by day to watching and photographing wildlife with cutting-edge thermal monocular night vision technology after dark. These night safaris let you admire the animals without the disruptive beams of a flashlight, meaning creatures, like leopards are undisturbed—and therefore more likely to attempt a hunt. While nothing beats watching African animals at night, recounting the tales by a starlit campfire back at Usangu is a close second.

Admire the sights and sounds of the Amazon after dark

Yasuní national park, ecuadorian amazon.

Sunset sparks a frenzy of activity in the Amazon. You can see and hear the rainforest’s twilight festivities for yourself with a stay at  Sacha Lodge , an upscale escape nestled along Ecuador’s Yasuní National Park—one of the Amazon’s most biodiverse pockets. During the day, snag a bird’s eye view via Sacha’s 940-foot-long Canopy Walk bridge, then admire the world’s largest rainforest by night with an after-dark jungle hike or a starlit canoe trip to spot the caiman (a relative of the alligator), one of the Amazon’s largest known predators. Keep the fun going after hours with more listening games from your room’s private balcony.

Few of India's National Parks allow safaris at night—arguably the best time to see the elusive tigers—but, luckily, Satpura Tiger Reserve is one of them. Satpura night drives run through the park’s buffer zones, and offer the chance to witness a host of creatures: leopards, sloths, wild dogs, and, of course, tigers. Book a night at the eight-suite  Bori Safari Lodge , a tranquil getaway within minutes of the park gate that offers a plunge pool with forest views, al fresco dining, and naturalist-led safaris around the clock.

Rincón Del Socorro

Rincón Del Socorro

See nocturnal species and stars in a biodiverse freshwater reserve

Iberá natural reserve, argentina.

More than 4,000 plant and animal species reside in  Argentina’s 1.3 million-acre Iberá Natural Reserve . Wildlife across the protected area’s streams, lagoons, swamps, and marshes have bounced back after decades of commercial hunting and illegal animal trading. Now, you can admire the biodiversity in one of the most mesmerizing ways: a night safari, with on-foot or 4x4 vehicle excursions to see viscachas, gray foxes, and crab-eating raccoons.  AndBeyond offers the experience as part of select South America tours. Book your own trip to the reserve via the 11-room Rincón del Socorro , a reinvigorated cattle ranch that offers expert-led night safaris, onsite cycling trails, and a reserve-view restaurant with farm-to-table produce and traditional Argentinian barbecues.

Mahali Mzuri

Mahali Mzuri

Search for lions, aardwolves, honey badgers, and bush babies under the stars

Olare motorogi conservancy, kenya.

Most wildlife travelers dream about visiting Kenya’s  Masai Mara National Reserve , but there’s a lesser-known and significantly less crowded safari escape just northwest of it: the 35,000-acre  Olare Motorogi Conservancy . The getaway, known for its action-packed lion viewing, protects the ecosystem’s animals and supports the local Masai people via community-based safari tourism. Unlike the Masai Mara National Reserve, night drives are allowed in Olare Motorogi Conservancy; they’re available via  Mahali Mzuri —Richard Branson’s posh 12-tent safari camp. You may see big cats like leopards or lions, or rarer aardwolves, porcupines, honey badgers, and bush babies. But a night safari isn’t the only time to catch these elusive creatures. From the camp’s outdoor dining to each tent’s private viewing deck, you can see and hear the conservancy’s inhabitants around the clock.

Listen for howls on a wolf safari

Skinnskatteberg, sweden.

Sweden’s elusive wolf is easier seen than heard—and your best bet at either is after dark. On an overnight wolf safari with  Amazing Nature Scandinavia , expert guides take you out on foot, and in a van, through central Sweden’s liveliest wolf spots. Actually spotting the elusive wolves can be tricky, but there’s an 80 to 90 percent chance you’ll hear their howls. This seasonal summer adventure pairs with camping in a wolf-pack area; bookend the trip with a stay at a unique central Sweden getaway like  Nasets Marcusgard . The forested property features quirky overnight stays—think: a cylindrical pine-flanked pod with potential deer and fox sightings from bed—with a central gathering place for meals, a heated pool and sauna, and a collection of onsite and nearby hiking trails.

Nam EtPhou Louey

Nam Et-Phou Louey

Cruise past leopards, gibbons, porcupines, and owls

Nam et-phou louey national protected area, laos.

A  late-night boat adventure through Laos’ remote Nam Et-Phou Louey National Park provides a first-hand glimpse at the country’s budding conservation success story. The trip starts with an evening boat ride, followed by a hike and dinner by a campfire, then the ultimate twilight treat: floating down the river beneath a blanket of darkness—with only one torchlight per boat to illuminate the potential leopards, porcupines, and gibbons en route. The journey concludes with a night in the park ecolodge’s traditional Lao bungalows.

Local guides run the tour with support from partners like the Wildlife Conservation Society; this tourism model encourages park-adjacent communities to protect the region’s endangered species.  Book it as a standalone expedition with pre- and post-trip stays at  Xayphasouk Hotel , a modest property with spacious rooms and a hotel restaurant in one of the closest main towns, Sam Nuea (around four hours away by car). Alternatively, join a Laos itinerary by tour operator  Audley for an overnight in Nam Et-Phou Louey, then connect to your choice of half a dozen other destinations throughout the country.

Take a moonlit walk among Australian wildlife

Warrigal highland rainforest preserve, australia.

Admire the flying fox, tree kangaroo, ringtail possum, and a host of other tough-to-see Australian critters with a  Wild Watch night safari hosted by longtime birding and wildlife photography guide Jonathan Munro. The outing takes place in the largest single tract of tropical rainforest remaining in Australia, in the Misty Mountains southwest of Cairns (the gateway to  Australia’s Great Barrier Reef ). When the weather is crisp and clear, it's typical for those exploring to see 30 to 40 animals in a two-hour evening tour. Wild Watch also offers tours that display the area's orchids, butterflies, dragonflies, birds, reptiles, and more. Book a night nearby at the sleek new  Mercure Hotel Cairns, a bright and breezy 75-room getaway with a poolside restaurant serving fresh, locally sourced fare. The property, located near the main city center, opened in January 2023. (Transportation is provided via Wild Watch.)

Everglades National Park Canoe

Everglades National Park

See (and hear) the Everglades by night

Everglades national park, florida.

Most visit the biodiverse  Everglades National Park by day, but half the fun is after dark—particularly on an  expert-led paddling tour . Possible nighttime wildlife sightings run the gamut: horned owls, bobcats, frogs, and even panthers. The soundtrack for the evening? A cacophony of lubber grasshoppers and frogs, who keep the entertainment going well into the morning. The tour runs for half the year, from December through March. Glamp nearby in Everglades Adventure Tours’ low-key Chickee Huts , a series of bungalows built by the Seminole Indians with thatched roofs, screened-in walls, and swamp and grassland panoramas. Alternatively, book a night at the luxe  JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort . Its upscale rooms—each with its own balcony—overlook the gulf and Marco Island’s powder-sugar sand. The property is roughly 35 minutes to the west of Everglades National Park.

The magic of a night safari in Australia

By Author cristina garcia

Posted on Published: January 27, 2023  - Last updated: March 24, 2023

The world is a different place at night, where mysterious creatures roam unhindered by darkness. Stepping outside our comfort zone and into the night wilderness makes our dormant senses come alive. We suddenly hear every crack of a twig and brush of grass, we feel the closeness of trees around us, and the smell of life fills our nostrils. As our eyes adjust, blackness becomes shades of blue and violet, and mountains become silhouettes across a vast field of stars. This is the thrilling magic of a night safari : seeing the unseen.

three people with flashlights on a night safari in Australia

There is an entire world of fantastic wildlife waiting for us if we conquer our fears and embrace the night, and there’s no better way to experience this thrill than a night safari in Australia. Carnivorous quolls, dining devils, little blue penguins, and pliable platypus plunking into a pond are just some of the many unforgettable experiences that await. Ready to see how the other half lives? Read on and find your dream night safari in Australia!

 Nocturnal animals of Tasmania

The wildlife of Tasmania is incredibly fascinating. From the little penguins  to the endangered orange-bellied parrot . But perhaps none capture the imagination like the largest of the Australian carnivorous marsupials: the Tasmanian devil.

Even though they occur across all of Tasmania, these endangered marsupials are incredibly difficult to spot! This solitary marsupial is nocturnal and spends the day hiding in caves, hollow logs, or dens. Primarily scavengers they consume anything from insects to fur seals, but birds and mammals make up the majority of their diet.

In 1996 the number of Tasmanian devils living in Tasmania was estimated to be more than 150,000. From 1996 to 2007, however, this figure dwindled by more than 50 percent. Today it is estimated that the adult population is between 10,000 and 25,000 individuals.

This sudden population crash was due to devil facial tumor disease (DFTD), an aggressive and transmittable parasitic cancer that produces large facial tumors on the head. The tumors grow large enough to interfere with the animal’s ability to eat, resulting in starvation and death.

A good place to search for devils is the Tasmanian highlands, a place like no other in Australia. Premier Travel Tasmania knows exactly where to find them and has put together an exciting 6-day Tasmanian Devil Encounter wildlife tour  to see the devils and other Tasmanian wildlife in the highlands. It also includes a visit to one of Tasmania’s natural wonders, the famous Marakoopa Cave. It’s the largest glow worm cave in Australia that’s accessible to the public.

The tour starts at Narawntapu National Park with an evening of wildlife spotlighting. This national park is home to a wide variety of wildlife due to its diversity of habitats, from coastal heathlands to dry woodlands and wetlands. During the tour, you’ll enjoy an evening picnic at a bird hide overlooking the lagoon where Tasmanian wildlife like pademelons , Forester kangaroos , echidnas ,   common wombats , eastern and spotted-tailed quolls,  and Bennetts wallabies  may appear while a symphony of frogs fills the air. As night falls, you’ll have a chance to spotlight secretive nocturnal creatures as they emerge from their daytime lairs.

Tasmanian birds found at Narawntapu include  honeyeaters , green rosellas ,  raptors , black cockatoos , robins , wrens , and fantails .

Next, the tour takes you to Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, one of Tasmania’s oldest national parks, for two days of serious wilderness adventures.

If you’ve traveled to other parts of Australia, the primeval misty forests of Cradle Mountain will seem like another planet. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a prime destination for watching nocturnal wildlife; a land of craggy mountains, deep valleys, button grass moors, heathlands, and ancient forests. It is also famous for having Australia’s deepest gorge, Fury Gorge, and Tasmania’s tallest mountain, Mt Ossa (5,305 feet). Visit during April or May and you’ll find the hillsides glowing in glorious reds and golds as the fagus trees (Australia’s only deciduous tree) give their best fall show.

From your lodge, you’ll embark on a night spotting adventure to see some of Australia’s most iconic marsupials:  Tasmanian devils , wombats , possums, wallabies , spotted tail  and eastern quolls .

three people having a picnic on a picnic table under a mossy tree

The next stop is the Central Plateau Conservation area, also referred to as the ‘land of a thousand lakes’. This is a wild, isolated area in the heart of Tasmania (not far from Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park), studded with alpine tarns, lakes, and sand dunes. This is the only place in Australia where alpine sand dunes exist! A magical place for wilderness enthusiasts, the Central Plateau is also a haven for wildlife.

Nestled in this unique alpine environment is the Thousand Lakes Lodge, a former Antarctic training facility that has been turned into an impressive and super-cozy off-grid wilderness lodge. Step out the door and find yourself immersed in the wilderness. The grounds are home to several unique species and you only need to take a short stroll to discover them. This lodge takes luxury safaris to another level!

It might be cozy in the lodge but don’t forget to wear appropriate clothing for this climate and a small torch.

Birders will rejoice at the sight of yellow-tailed cockatoo and the endangered Tasmanian wedge-tailed eagles . Or try your luck exploring the many lakes around the lodge for signs of the elusive  platypus , a highlight of your day adventures.

As darkness descends, wildlife watchers have the opportunity to join a night safari from the lodge and spot other Tasmanian animals like wallabies , long-nosed potoroos , spotted-tail quolls , ringtail possums , and Tasmanian devils . And if you’re really lucky, the Aurora Australis may light your way for a truly memorable nighttime adventure!

Marching with little penguins

It may surprise you to learn that you can see penguins in Australia! In fact, the smallest penguin in the world lives here, and the best way to see it is at night. The little penguin, also called the little blue penguin and fairy penguin, can be seen at dusk while returning to their burrows and rookeries after a day of foraging at sea.

In Tasmania, there are a few places where you can spot them. This 5-day tour  with Premier Travel Tasmania will take you to the gorgeous Freycinet Peninsula where an encounter with these little fairy penguins will be the highlight of your stay.

little blue penguin on a creek at dusk

The tour starts with a visit to Bonorong Sanctuary where you’ll get a night tour of the facility and will learn about Tasmania’s endemic animals.

The second day is spent at Freycinet peninsula, where you’ll take a cruise around its coastline exploring the spectacular Freycinet National Park from the water. Discover the unspoiled beaches where little penguins nest and the island where short-tailed shearwaters live. This area of the park is only accessible by foot or boat and therefore, is as wild as it can be.

At dusk, you’ll go on an informative walk on private property where little penguins have a colony. Watch them come ashore after a hard day foraging at sea and see how they settle down for the night by their burrows.

Other highlights of this tour are visiting the highest waterfalls in Tasmania, St. Columba Falls, a visit to the Bay of Fires conservation area, and its incredible orange-lichen-covered granite rocks. You’ll also spend a day spotting Maria Island’s common wombats, Tasmanian pademelons, Cape Barren geese, Forester kangaroos, and the Tasmanian devil.

Other wildlife seen on this tour are white-bellied sea eagles, purple swamp hens, black swans, brown falcons, royal spoonbills, and herons.

Searching for the elusive Christmas Island hawk owl

While Christmas Island is internationally famous for its red crab migration, the birding also attracts wildlife travelers from around the globe. The Christmas Island hawk owl is one of Australia’s rarest raptors and if you want to cross this one off your list, like all good things, you’re going to have to work for it.

First, you have to get yourself to Christmas Island, a tiny island just 10 miles across, lying more than 200 miles off the coast of Java in the Indian Ocean.

Second, you need to search for the Christmas Island hawk owl… at night. Spotting this little owl is no easy task, and you will need to become a bit of a night owl yourself. Hawk owls shelter in dense forests during the day and are nearly impossible to spot with an untrained eye.

Third, maximize your chances of seeing one by joining a bird tour. The hawk owls do not use the same roost for many days in a row, but knowledgeable tour guides know their favorite places and can figure out their next move.

Christmas Island Hawk owl perched on a branch

Indian Ocean Experiences leads one of the top wildlife tour companies in Australia, and their Christmas Island Birdwatching tour  has been specially designed to include an evening of searching for the elusive Hawk Owl. This tour made our list of top wildlife safaris in Australia,  and spotting a hawk owl in the wild is one of its many draws.

Also known as the Christmas Boobook, this small owl is only about the size of a pigeon, with big yellow eyes, gorgeous rusty plumage, and no ear tufts. Christmas Island hawk owls feed on insects, small lizards, juvenile rats, and birds.

What’s most exciting about finding a hawk owl is the possibility of being able to watch their perch-hunting behavior. It moves from perch to perch while scanning for prey. When a tasty meal is located it swoops down upon it, snatches it up, and flies back up to another perch to consume it.

During this Australian safari tour, you will be accompanied by Lisa Preston, the manager at Indian Ocean Experiences and expert guide. Not only will she ensure you see a hawk owl (if your outing is unsuccessful she’ll take you again the next day), but she’ll be able to tell you all about their behavior and conservation.

Golden bosun flying over the ocean

Christmas Island is also home to one of the world’s most famous rookeries, where 80,000 sea birds nest every year. This is your only opportunity to see Christmas Island frigate birds, golden bosuns, and the endemic  Abbott’s booby .

The endangered Abbott’s boobies spend most of their lives hunting at sea, and Christmas Island is the only place where they breed . The colony supports about 3,000 nesting pairs of these unusual-looking birds.

The devils of Maria Island

The Tasmanian mainland is not the only place where devils can be found. Concerns about the decline in the Tasmanian devil population due to devil facial tumor disease led to the establishment of a breeding program on Maria Island, a small island just off the east coast of Tasmania. In 2013, 28 healthy Tasmanian devils were selected and released onto Maria Island as an insurance policy.

The Tasmanian devil program program was a success and today research teams estimate that there are about 60 Tasmanian devils on Maria Island.

The Maria Island Walk has designed a 4-day walking experience  with a naturalist guide where you’ll have the chance to spot many nocturnal animals including this endangered marsupial. One evening, your guides will take you for a devil-spotting night walk in hopes of catching a glimpse of these elusive nocturnal creatures in the wild.

Sightings during these walks can be quite remarkable and unexpected, . One tour group had a truly memorable encounter when they came across a mother Tasmanian devil and her baby feeding on a dead beached seal. It doesn’t get better than this!

Tasmanian devil walking on grass

The first few days of the tour explore forested areas and the last evening is spent in more open habitat with a high chance of spotting nocturnal creatures.

Tasmanian pademelon standing on grass

The amount of wildlife in Maria Island is incredible. Other fascinating wildlife you may come across include  pademelons , Pygmy possums , kangaroos , and  Bennett’s   wallabies. Bird species found in Maria Island are  yellow-tailed black cockatoos , white-bellied sea eagles , and the spectacular  flame robin .

Your beautiful accommodation for the first two days is in two exclusive wilderness camps. Both Casuarina Camp and White Gums Camp offer an intimate and immersive experience of Maria Island.

Tasmanian cheeses, an array of fresh local produce, and Tasmanian wines will be your companions as you unwind from your hiking adventures and wait for the night creatures to emerge. Don’t snooze yet thought! This is  when nocturnal animals begin to stir and start their day.

table set for dinner by candlelight

After dinner, marvel at the Tasmanian night sky from the deck of your hut. The sounds of civilization disappear like a distant memory as your dormant senses come alive. Notice how the fragrant smells of the wilderness transform as the sun goes down.  Sit quietly and let your eyes acclimate to the dark. Watch the stars multiply as the night creatures take shape. See what they see, hear what they hear, and smell what they smell.

small cabin in the woods in Maria Island

The winter months of June, July, and August also offer some exciting wildlife-watching opportunities. Wombats are accompanied by their young joeys, the Cape Barren geese are busy building their nests, Tasmanian native hens have territorial disputes, and Tasmanian devils are emerging from their dens. If this sounds like your cup of tea, check out the  Maria Island Winter Escape tour.

Night safari in Australia, the nocturnal rainforest

Nights in the rainforest are mysterious and full of life. Daintree Rainforest in far North Queensland is no different. To avoid the searing heat of the day, many local species are adapted to a nocturnal lifestyle.

FNQ Nature Tours is very excited to show guests the nocturnal wildlife of Queensland. Their Daintree afternoon and nocturnal tour, one of the most exciting Australian safaris, will give you a rare glimpse of nightlife in the rainforest.

When you enter World Heritage Listed Daintree National Park, you enter the lands of the local Kuku Yalanji people. Take in the history and beauty of the towering mountains and pristine forest. At 300,000 acres, this is the largest tropical rainforest in Australia.

This day tour leaves in the early afternoon and is designed so guests can enjoy the different landscapes of the rainforest such as crystal clear streams, deep gorges, mountains, waterfalls, and dense forest.

You’ll visit the gorgeous Cape Tribulation beach and enjoy a cruise in a solar electric boat on the Daintree River. From the boat, you can spot huge  Saltwater crocodiles  along with local specialties like  Wompoo fruit doves , spectacled flying foxes , Boyd’s Forest dragons , Ulysses butterflies , white-lipped tree frogs , and azure , little & sacred kingfishers .

saltwater crocodile and photographer on a boat

Now that you’ve seen the Daintree Rainforest in daylight, it’s time to experience it at night! The grand finale of this tour is a guided interpretative night walk. See how the other half lives when night falls, and have a chance to spot rare nocturnal animals like bandicoots , northern bettongs , and the Daintree river ringtail possum .

If one day in the jungle doesn’t sound like enough, they’ve got you covered with the 4-day Nature, Wildlife, and Conservation Safari tour ! If you dream of seeing Australia’s nocturnal rainforest animals, this  conservation safari in Australia  is the way to do it. One night you’ll be based at the Chambers Wildlife Lodge, set in 20 private acres in Queensland’s Atherton Tablelands. From here you’ll visit two different locations with a local wildlife expert to spot local nocturnal wildlife.

You can also hang out at the lodge’s wildlife viewing platform which is spotlighted until around 11 pm. From here, guests can view uromys , antechinus , melomys , sugar gliders , bandicoots , and striped possums . This is a fantastic opportunity to not just catch a glimpse of these animals but to observe their interesting behavior and interactions. Bring your photo gear if you’re into night photography!

Common Brushtail possum on a branch at night

During this night safari in Australia, you’ll have a chance to see nocturnal birds including the  lesser sooty owl , rufous owl , Papuan frogmouth , and Australia’s smallest owl, the Australian boo-book . During the full moon, guests will have the opportunity to hear the mating call of the orange-footed scrub fowl .

And on spring days you might be rewarded with the famous Victoria’s rifle bird’s  mating display.

Other animals that inhabit the surrounding forest are the  Herbert River ringtail possum  and green ringtail possum ,  lemuroid possum , Lumholtz’s tree kangaroo , and northern coppery brushtail possums .

Embrace the night

It takes a special kind of person to venture out into the dark in search of elusive wildlife. If you’re that kind of person, then a night safari in Australia will be a thrilling experience for you. It’s a chance to see species that virtually no one ever gets to see, but more importantly, it’s a chance to re-awaken your dormant senses and feel like a part of the natural world.

What is better: Singapore Zoo or Night Safari?

What is the difference between Night Safari and River Wonders?

river wonders

River Safari is the former name of River Wonders , which is part of the Mandai Wildlife Reserve together with Night Safari , Singapore Zoo , and Bird Paradise (which will be renamed to Bird Paradise and set to open in the second quarter of 2023).

River Wonders houses unique species of animals from river habitats as well as Singapore’s resident giant pandas . Night Safari, on the other hand, is home to different species of nocturnal creatures and other wildlife animals .

What animals can you see at Night Safari?

night safari animals

You can see many different kinds of animals at Night Safari. These include Asian elephants, Asian lions, clouded leopards, fishing cats, Malayan tapirs, Malayan tigers, Nile hippos, pangolins, and sloth bears to name a few. Find out more about the Night Safari’s animals in our guide .

What do you wear on a Night Safari?

There’s no dress code on what to wear, but we recommend you wear something comfortable, including a good pair of walking shoes. As you’ll be exploring for long periods of time, it’s best to put on good footwear that will not hurt your feet. It is also advised that you wear insect repellent and light coloured clothes with maximum cover to prevent insect bites.

Can you go without a car?

Yes, you can go without a car. There are other convenient ways to get there. You can take the MRT, then a connecting bus that will take you to the wildlife parks. See the MRT routes here .

You can also take the Mandai Shuttle, a loop shuttle service from Khatib MRT Station (NS14) to the Singapore Zoo Coach Bay. It is available daily and costs only SGD1. Children below three years old ride for free.

Simak, yuk!

Singapore Tourist Pass atau Ez Link?

Singapore Tourist Pass Card

  • Masa berlaku 1 hari seharga SGD 20 sekitar IDR 215.000.
  • Masa berlaku 2 hari seharga SGD 26 sekitar IDR 280.000.
  • Masa berlaku 3 hari seharga SGD 30 sekitar IDR 324.000.

4. Cara Top Up Ez Link Card Singapore

Ez Link Card

6. Mana Yang Lebih Worth It?

Singapore Tourist Pass vs Ezlink

informasi ezlink selengkapnya tap disni

Harga Singapore Tourist Pass dihitung berdasarkan per hari

1 hari = 20 SGD 2 hari = 26 SGD 3 hari = 30 SGD

  • Changi Airport

  • Night Rider (bis malam, jam 12 keatas)
  • Chinatown Direct

Bagaimana Kalau kita pakai Tiket Tourist Pass kelewat hari?

Apa bedanya Tourist Pass dibanding Ez-link?

Sumber: The Singapore Tourist Pass

Panduan penukaran

tourist pass harga

Score a Southwest Companion Pass With Just One Round-trip Flight — but You'll Have to Book Soon

The offer is running until tomorrow night and is valid for travel from Aug. 5 through Oct. 2

tourist pass harga

Ashlee Duncan/Courtesy of Southwest Airlines

Grab a friend and get ready to hit the skies by scoring one of Southwest Airlines’ limited-time Companion Passes, available by flying just one roundtrip flight.

The promotional passes, which allow travelers to designate one person to fly with them practically for free, are available to members of Southwest’s Rapid Rewards program who register for the promotion online and purchase one qualifying Southwest revenue flight by 11:59 p.m. CT on March 27, according to the airline . To qualify, travelers must book either a roundtrip flight or two one-way flights and must take off by May 22.

Customers who score a companion pass with the promotion can then designate a companion to travel with them from Aug. 5 through Oct. 2. Travelers can choose to change their designated companion up to three times with the promotional Companion Pass.

“We know the Companion Pass is a favorite perk of our Rapid Rewards program, and we're thrilled to bring back this promotion for a limited time so that Customers can experience why this popular benefit is so meaningful," Jonathan Clarkson, vice president of marketing at Southwest, said in a statement. "We invite our Customers to take advantage of this offer because traveling with your favorite Companion supports sharing of adventures and creating memories that can last a lifetime."

The Companion Pass allows holders to designate one companion to fly with them nearly for free , simply paying taxes and fees for each flight, which start at $5.60 each way. Typically, travelers can earn a Companion Pass by either flying 100 qualifying one-way flights or earning 135,000 qualifying points in a calendar year (which they can do by using a qualifying credit card, staying at partner hotels, and more).

The latest Companion Pass promotion comes on the heels of Southwest’s plans to start red-eye flights sometime in the next two years. It also follows the airline’s decision to redesign its cabins for 2025 featuring ( controversial ) slimmer new seats , adjustable headrests, and larger under-seat space.

Don't fly alone. Here's how Southwest's Companion Pass lets you bring a buddy for free.

Southwest Airlines is running a promotion to let Rapid Rewards members earn a Companion Pass more easily.

With the pass, qualifying travelers can bring a designated buddy with them for free on any trip between Aug. 5 and Oct. 2.

Normally, to earn a Companion Pass, Southwest frequent flyers need to fly 100 one-way flights in a year or earn 135,000 qualifying points. These points can be accumulated through flight purchases or eligible spending on Southwest-branded credit cards or with program partners.

Under the promotion, all travelers have to do to qualify is register on Southwest’s website and purchase one round-trip or two one-way flights.

“We know the Companion Pass is a favorite perk of our Rapid Rewards program, and we’re thrilled to bring back this promotion for a limited time so that customers can experience why this popular benefit is so meaningful,” Jonathan Clarkson, Vice President Marketing at Southwest Airlines said in a statement. “We invite our customers to take advantage of this offer because traveling with your favorite companion supports sharing of adventures and creating memories that can last a lifetime.”

To earn the promotional Companion Pass, travelers must purchase their qualifying flights by Wednesday, and travel must take place by May 22 after registering for the deal.

Promotional Companion Pass holders can change their designated companion up to three times during the eligibility period. Full terms and conditions of the deal are available here on Southwest’s website .

Use the right card at the right time this month, and take notice of recent changes to the benefit ... [+] roster.

The world of credit card benefits is always changing and evolving. This month, there are more changes to know about, but they are not all disappointing. Some new cards offer impressive points-earning bonuses, and others have added cash back or statement credits to the roster. Others have reduced or replaced popular card perks . Here’s what you need to know when reaching for the right card on the right purchase this month.

New Wells Fargo Autograph Journey Card

This card comes with points and a flexible spending structure for free benefits and travel.

For a simple $95 annual fee, this card packs in some points-earning value and even comes with a $50 annual airfare credit (further reducing the annual fee to $45 for those that purchase airline tickets). What will truly appeal to miles and points fans is its hefty bonus earning for such a low annual fee. It comes with 5x points on hotel spending, 4x points for airline purchases, 3x points on all other travel and dining purchases plus one point on everything else. It does not charge foreign transaction fees, but does come with some travel protections, rare for a card with such a low annual fee. Cardholders can redeem points by transferring them to a bevy of other programs. These include Air France-KLM, Avianca, British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Choice Privileges.

New benefits and statement credits for the Hilton Honors American Express Business Card

The Hilton Honors business credit card is adding new perks for cardholders.

Typically, cardholders earn 12 Hilton Honors points per dollar spent at Hilton family properties . Starting this year, cardholders can earn $60 in statement credits each quarter (up to $240) on all Hilton family purchases. An exciting new benefit though is that the card earns 5 Hilton points per dollar on all purchases up to $100,000 per calendar year. Once that amount is reached, all purchases earn 3 Hilton points. The card also comes with elite status perks including Hilton Honors Gold elite status plus a new benefit: National Car Rental Emerald Club Executive car rental status. For those that want higher Hilton Honors status, cardholders that reach $40,000 in annual spending will be automatically upgraded to Hilton Honors Diamond, the highest tier. At the same time, the card is losing Priority Pass perks and elite status night credits for reaching certain thresholds. Its new annual fee is $195.

No-fee Chase Ink Business Cash card gets more benefits

For a limited time, new cash back benefits are available for this card.

The Chase Ink Business Cash credit card now has more reasons to sign up including new cash back bonuses after reaching spend thresholds. In the first three months of holding the card, cardholders can earn $350 cash back once they spend $3,000 on purchases. There’s another tier, which gives cardholders more time to reach new card bonuses. They can earn an additional $400 in cash back once they spend $6,000 in the first six months. New cardholders that have an active Chase Business Checking account will receive a 10% one-time bonus on all spending in their first year of having the card. This is on top of existing cash back bonuses on certain spending categories. These new perks are available for anyone that gets the card between now and November 17.

Chase Sapphire Reserve loses some Priority Pass perks

Group of people at an airport business class dining venue. The Priority Pass credit will no longer ... [+] be available for those with membership via Chase Sapphire Reserve.

One of the more popular perks for premium cards like Chase Sapphire Reserve is lounge access. Priority Pass, a network of more than 1,300 lounges is one of those benefits, but it has also added restaurants, spas and napping rooms in airports. The Chase Sapphire Reserve card, however, will be reducing its offer effective July 1. This means that the Priority Pass membership that comes with the Reserve’s annual fee will no longer include a credit to any non airline or airport lounge product. Take advantage of those benefits while you can before they disappear.

The popular Bilt Rewards credit card will cut ties with American Airlines at the end of June. While this spells the end to transferring points from non-American co-branded credit card loyalty programs to American AAdvantage, it adds another opportunity for those that like Alaska miles. The ability to move points from Bilt Rewards to Alaska Mileage Plan has already begun. It is still possible to transfer Marriott points for AAdvantage miles, but the ratio of points awarded is poor value.
