1. Chapora Fort

Chapora fort has been made famous by the cult classic Bollywood movie ' Dil Chahta Hai '. As a matter of fact, even today you can see college students enacting the famous shot of the movie here. The fort is located very close to Vagator beach. There's a little bit of climb involved in getting here but the view from the fort is well worth the climb! The very famous and wonderful hotel W Goa is perfectly located between the Chapora fort and Vagator beach.

2. Aguada Fort

Aguada fort is one of the most impressive Portuguese forts still standing intact in Goa. You can visit this fort on all days of the week from the morning at 9.30 am till 5.30 pm in the evening. This majestic fort also holds a lighthouse and you can see a panoramic view of the Mandovi river, that meets the Arabian sea, from the fort. 3. Sinquerim Fort

Sinquerim Fort is a fun little place located in Sinquerim, not far from the Aguada Fort. The ruins of the Sinquerim Fort look over the Arabic ocean. During the high tide, waves from the ocean wash up against the fort walls creating water showers. It's a lot of fun just standing there and waiting for the waves to hit you. The Sinquerim beach is also a nice spot to visit for water sports. There are two hotels perfectly situated with a view of the fort and beach - these are Taj Fort Aguada Resort & Spa and Taj Holiday Village Resort & Spa .

4. Reis Magos Fort

Reis Magos is one of the most beautiful places to visit in North Goa. As soon as you enter the fort, you'll be mesmerised with the location, unique architecture and the layout of the fort. In fact, the fort even houses a museum where you'll learn a lot more about its history. Facing Panjim city , overlooking both the Mandovi river as well as the Arabian ocean, the location of the Reis Magos fort is to die for! Parra has been made famous by the recent Bollywood movie 'Dear Zindagi'. In fact, the road became so famous after the movie came out that the road has even been named as the ' Dear Zindagi road ' on google maps. You can type either that or 'Parra chapel' into maps to reach here. This unique spot is one of the best places to explore in North Goa where there are coconut trees and lush greenery on either side. Such is the beauty of the Parra road that it is featured on every list of the most instagrammable places in Goa .

Keep in mind though, that this is a road used by locals as well as taxi cabs passing through so don't hold up traffic for photo shoots and don't leave litter on the road.

6. Panjim City

Panjim or Panaji is the capital city of Goa . It's identified by the beautiful river view on one side of the main road and colorful buildings on the other side of the road. Apart from the interesting buildings, the old Latin quarters of Goa, beaches and the street art, You can easily find a whole bunch of things to do in Panaji Goa  and spend a whole day just exploring the capital city. Don't miss the famous Panjim Church , Miramar Beach , Dona Paula jetty and a Panjim river cruise while you're in the city.

7. Fontainhas

Fontainhas, the old Latin quarter of Goa has gained much popularity over the past couple of years. For one thing, the many colorful houses and graphic staircases are quite appealing photo-worthy spots. You can see quite a few youngsters, couples and photographers shooting here all day. Secondly, the rich history of Fontainhas has inspired many Fontainhas heritage walk tours. You can easily book a Fontainhas walking tour or bicycle tour to learn more about the history of this neighbourhood. 10. Saligao

There are even quite a few street food stalls in this clifftop area and a few benches to relax and enjoy the view. The Siolim riverside chapel is one of the most beautiful places I've visited in North Goa and so it was hard not to include it in my North Goa guide. Combine a visit to this chapel if you visit the popular Thalassa restaurant which is now located in Siolim itself. The drive here takes you through small villages, unbelievable riverside views and lots of coconut trees.

16. Sweet Water Lake

Coming to one of my favorite places to visit in North Goa - which is the Sweet Water Lake in Arambol. No visit to North Goa is complete if you haven't seen this epic lake which is one of the offbeat places to see in North Goa. To reach here, you need to hike from the North end of the Arambol beach inside the tunnel that's full of shops until you reach a secluded beach . The lake lies opposite to that smaller beach. 17. Offbeat Places in North Goa

Framed by two magnificent rivers - The Mandovi and The Terekhol, North Goa is home to a striking coastline, dotted with vibrant and bustling beachfront resorts.

Tourism is well established in the north of Goa, giving the region its own unique charm and character. Soft golden sands line the shores and are backed by colourful makeshift beach shacks and coconut palms whilst just inland, villages come alive with local restaurants, lively bars and craft stalls. The region hosts some of the best markets in the state including the bohemian Anjuna Flea market, the Mapusa local produce market and the lively Saturday Night market at Arpora.

More about North Goa

Just to the south of Candolim beach, you’ll find a quieter village called Sinquerim. Meander along the beach front, discovering local shacks along the sand, and onto the peninsula where the striking 16th century Fort Aguada offers stunning views along the coast.

Quieter than its neighbours Calangute and Baga, Candolim is a charming beachfront resort with a long stretch of soft golden sand backed by makeshift beach shacks and rolling dunes.

Drifting right up to the mouth of Baga creek, this bustling and lively beach is one of the most famous in the state. Backed by an unbroken line of beach shacks and constantly busy with India’s domestic market, the resort is home to some of the state’s most famous nightclubs and restaurants including Tito’s and Britto’s.

Anjuna & Vagator

Just north of Baga, is the charming village of Anjuna and the picturesque Vagator. Anjuna is home to an eclectic mix of colourful Portuguese houses and lush paddy fields. Famous for its weekly flea market, Anjuna still parades an air of hippy-chic, originating from the 60s. Vagator boasts stunning backdrops made up of lush greenery and rustic cliffs.

Just inland from Anjuna with a riverside location, lays the authentic Goan village of Siolim. One of the largest villages in the state, Siolim is a hotspot for beautiful colonial houses and Portuguese Heritage homes. Not so touched by tourism, you’ll find this village is resolutely Goan.

North Goa covers the northern half of the state of Goa in India . Goa has two districts, North Goa and South Goa.

North Goa is divided into a number of "talukas" (sub-districts, in Konkani). These are:

The talukas of Bicholim, Pernem, Ponda and Sattari were part of the Novas Conquistas (New Conquests) i.e. they became part of Portuguese controlled Goa late in the 18th century. Thus, compared to talukas of Bardez and South Goa, there are less large Portuguese edifices. Coming into Goa from Maharashtra, it is quite difficult to differentiate the character of the villages and the people around. What gives away the fact that you are in Goa is the ubiquitous feni (typical Goan spiritious liquor) which is sold in every grocery store.

The Konkan Railway runs through North Goa. There are two main stations - Pernem and Tivim . Pernem is the first station as the train enters the state from Maharashtra. It is just 40-50 minutes from the previous station Sawantwadi .

Mumbai - Goa buses use the NH17 and enter the state at the Banda border check post. The first dropping point is Pernem. The next dropping point is Mapusa .

Interestingly, like other forts in the Konkan, these forts are located on the mouths of rivers. Going up to the fort, one gets a magnificent view of both inland waterbodies (rivers) and the Arabian Sea. For those interested in things pertaining to military, navies, etc., a visit to these forts is a useful way to understand the maritime history of the Indian west coast.

This restaurant has a seated statue of the infamous fugitive Charles Sobhraj in handcuffs. In 1986, Sobhraj had escaped from Tihar jail and was moving around in Goa. He was having lunch at the restaurant when a Mumbai policeman Madhukar Zende spotted him and arrested him.

Scuba Diving

This gorgeous state in India and hot tourist spot is bordered with the Arabian Sea with a plethora of underwater life. It houses fish of a varied colour pallet, turtles, reef sharks and aquatic plants which make the world beneath the sea a fantasy land. 

The Third major diving destination in India, Scuba diving in Goa is even fun due to the presence of a number of wrecks off its coastline including Portuguese Galleons and World War II battleships. Dudsagar Falls Trek

Gushing down at the border of Goa and Karnataka, the Dudhsagar boasts of being one of the tallest waterfalls in India. The trail to the falls boasts of rich flora and fauna all along the way, however being so unique these falls have a good old railway track offering a magnificent of the tall white cascade.

Dudhsagar literally meaning ‘River of milk’ shot to publicity after being filmed in Chennai Express, the Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone blockbuster film. One has to indulge in this magnificent trek to behold its beauty.

How to reach: You can reach there by jeep, train or trekking

- Train: Take a train from Margao city in Goa to Kulem or Castle rock station and get off to the nearest tunnel to the Dudhsagar waterfalls.

- Jeep: You can drive from Panaji (74 km) or Margao (47 km) right to the base of the trail from where you would have to hike for an hour to reach the falls.

- Trekking: You can trek along the railway track with scenic views and tunnels all along the way. Trek from Kulem to Dudhsagar (12 km, 4 h) or from Castle Rock (14 km, 5h) right to the falls.

Price: The forest department charges Rs. 20 per head of the visitors entering the premises. Carrying a camera or professional camera is also charged, at Rs.300 and Rs 5000 respectively.

Location: It is located on the border of Goa and Karnataka in Sonaulim, Goa.

Snorkelling

Set sail on the Arabian Sea, where you’ll drop anchor and hop into the crystal blue waters for a bit of snorkelling. Get up close to colourful coral and tropical fish before heading to the white, sandy beach where you can relax and bask in a gorgeous sun tan. 

Look for dolphins along the way to the island during a boat trip that takes up to one hour. Admire the colourful coral reefs and dazzling fish as you float in calm warm waters just off the beach. You’ll have about four hours to snorkel, swim and relax on the beach. 

Soak up the gorgeous scenery and munch on snacks provided by your guide. For lunch, feast on a Goan barbecue of fish or meat accompanied by drinks.

Price: Prices vary depending on the location and duration of your snorkelling trip. On an average, the cost ranges between INR 1300 - 2500 per person.

Kayaking in Sal Backwaters

For an amazing kayaking experience in Goa, its six rivers: Mandovi and Zuari are the most famous ones, but then there’s also Sal, Chapora, Mapura and Terekol. These mighty rivers support a beaming mangrove habitat, that only attracts wildlife but numerous species of freshwater fish and even dangerous crocs. 

Getting on a boat and kayaking is a great way to soak in the beauty of nature in Goa. These trips are easy and not too hard to paddle through water, giving you ample time to admire your surroundings. 

Kayaking in the backwaters of Goa gives you an entry to the heart of the mangroves, only a few feet away from interesting creatures like herons, cormorants, kingfishers, and frolicking otters. Visit from November to February, when you can spot flocks of migratory birds, making this place their home.

Gliding through Goa’s calm waters doesn’t even require much skill or expertise, just a strong will and lust for adventure. Newcomers can also learn to paddle in no time, while professionals seeking more of a challenge, can try tougher routes of the Zuari and Mandovi river. These kayaking trips usually end at fishing villages with a simple meal of crab curry, fried fish and beer making it just a perfect end.

Visit Fort Aguada

Be ready for paradise and serenity as you enter Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary near the town of Molem. Located deep inside the sanctuary is the temple of Tambdi Surla, dating back to Kadamba Dynasty and the famous Dudhsagar Falls. 

You will be welcomed by the call of the cicadas and the heady fragrance of wild basil in this sanctuary. Spotting wildlife becomes easier when you go trailing along its dirt tracks. Indian bison, sambar, leopards, spotted deer, slender loris, jungle cats, Malayan giant squirrels, pythons and cobras are just a few of the many species found in its depths. 

The Western Ghats towards this section of Goa is just breathtakingly beautiful, making it definitely worth a visit.

Price: Adults are charged INR 20 each, whilst children enter for INR 10 each. Cameras are allowed into the sanctuary for INR 30 for still cameras and INR 150 for video cameras.

Distance from Panaji: Located at a distance of 57 km from Panaji, it takes about an hour to reach by car

Location: This sanctuary is located on the eastern border of the state of Goa, near the village of Mollem.

Chapora Fort

The word Chapora is reminiscent of "Shahpura" or the "Town of the Shahs" and was built by Adil Shah of Bijapur. The old laterite fort, standing guard over the mouth of the Chapora River, was taken over by the Portuguese in 1543. 

Today it is a crumble of picturesque ruins with only the outer walls remaining, though you can still pick out the mouths of two escape tunnels. The main reason to make the climb up the hill is for the sensational views out along the coast and most importantly to experience the ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ movie vibes from atop the fort walls.

Distance from Panaji: The Chapora Fort is situated at a distance of approximately 22 km from Panaji.

Location: It is located in North Goa, very close to the Vagator Beach.

Arvalem Waterfall

The Arvalem Waterfall also known as Harvalem falls is a very scenic and beautiful picnic spot. This beautiful waterfall forms a huge lake at the bottom, which is much popular amongst the swimmers.

During the monsoon season, as the plains are lashed by incessant rains, the Arvalem waterfall runs amok with thunderous energy. The otherwise lean stream of the winters metamorphoses into a powerful gush of water cascading down the mountain slopes from a height of about 70 meters. This waterfall is set amidst charming surroundings, with the Rudreshwar temple in its vicinity. 

The temple holds importance for the Hindus who believe in releasing the soul on the 12th day after death. The Rock cut caves are just situated nearby. The Arvalem waterfall is one of the most crowded tourist spots in Goa. The Government has developed a park at the waterfall where one can peacefully sit and enjoy the beauty of the waterfall.

Distance from Panaji: Located about 60 km away from Panaji, there are multiple buses plying from Panaji- Mapusa - Arvalem and takes about an hour and half to reach.

Location: The Arvalem falls, also known as the Harvalem falls, are located near Mapusa in North Goa. The closest villages are Bicholim, which is 8 km away and Sanquelim which is 2 km away.

Locations: There are many spice plantations in Panjim - Tropical Spice Plantation, Savoi Plantation, Pascoal Spice Village, Rustic Plantation, Sahakar Spice Farm, Sai Herbarium, Parvati Madav Park Plantation, Pascoal Spice Farms and Abyss Spice Farms. Savoi offers a tour to a cashew factory, Sahakar offers elephant ride, Sai Herbarium gives you an insight into organic farming; every farm has its own speciality.

But to summarise it, if you are looking for the best places to visit in North Goa for 3 days, you should spend your first day visiting beaches and forts near Candolim, Baga and Vagator, spend your second day visiting places in Old Goa and Panjim and spend your third day visiting beaches further north of Vagator. When should you visit North Goa?

If you want the best weather and coolest vibe, you must visit Goa between November and February. All the shacks, restaurants, hotels and homestays are functioning in full swing, and you won’t encounter any roadblocks during this time. However, if you hate travelling in the peak touristy season and want to avoid the crowds, you must visit Goa during the rainy season. Goa’s natural beauty gets highly accentuated during the rains, and it’s the perfect time for a true nature-lover to explore Goa. The downside, however, is that you will have to cover fewer places, the beach shacks will mostly be shut, and Goa would hardly be the buzzing Goa you may have seen in travel videos and pictures.

Where should you stay in North Goa?

North Goa is full of properties suitable for all budgets and travellers.

Some areas that make for an ideal base are:

Anjuna/Vagator: Anjuna and Vagator are relatively quieter areas in the touristy side of North Goa and feature some of the best homestays, villas as well as hostels. The Best Places to visit in North Goa in 3 days (2023)

Day 1: touristy north goa.

Touristy North Goa is the popular side of North Goa. It covers the area between Candolim and Vagator. Ideally, this is the area in which you should spend your first full day in North Goa.

For Day 1, choose from the following places to roam in North Goa based on your travel type and taste.

Fort Aguada

Aguada Fort is situated in Candolim and is a great place to experience the Portuguese influence on Goa. Fort Aguada was the largest freshwater reserve in Asia, and all Portuguese ships travelling to the east would stop here to refill their water reserves. The fort itself is majestic and makes for a great outing.

However, it is also true that the fort is not too well-maintained, and there aren’t many guides in this area who will help you understand its significance. That said, if it’s your first visit to Goa, you must visit Fort Aguada.

Aguada Jail

The Aguada Jail has recently opened up for tourists.

Aguada Jail is located a short distance away from Fort Aguada, and a visit to the jail allows excellent insight into the colonial and post-colonial struggles of Goa. If you want to skip the jail, you can simply stand outside the entrance for some terrific panoramic shots.

Lower Fort Aguada

This one is my personal favourite location in North Goa. The lower fort overlooks the Sinquerim beach and presents the most breathtaking views of the North Goan coastline. It’s a terrific place to explore the rich history of Goa while also being surrounded by the best that Goa has to offer. Enjoy some lovely nariyal pani or nimbu sharbat at the entrance and then spend a memorable time with your partner or family here.

Sinquerim Beach

Out of all the places to visit in North Goa for watersports, this one tops my list!

The Sinquerim Beach, located right under Lower Fort Aguada, has a coastline whose pictures you can use to trick people into believing you went to Europe! And that’s why zooming on a jet ski or parasailing here offers the best views.

There are also far many watersport vendors here to choose from than at most other beaches. Which means? You can take haggling to a whole other level!

Cola beach is an introverted person’s bae . You are partially right if you think North Goa beaches are loud and disgusting. But you aren’t entirely right, because there are some pristine beauties like Cola Beach that can pamper you with that much-needed solace and serenity that you seek from a beach vacation.

If it’s not your first visit to Goa or if you are in a mood to see the slightly unseen side of Goa, you should visit Reis Magos. It overlooks the Mandovi river, facing Panjim.

Calangute/Baga beach

In all honesty, these places don’t really deserve a visit unless you are a hardcore party animal who loves to let the hair loose under harsh fluorescent lights, deafening music and wild crowds.

That’s also why, during the day, these beaches are pretty much a copy of any crowded beach in Mumbai. But at night, they transform themselves into a few kilometres line of open-air discotheques.

It is also in this area that you will find the best nightclubs like Tito’s, SinQ and Hammerz. The stretch of road outside these beaches is also a street shopper’s paradise From clothes, jewellery, bags, cashews, musical instruments… you’ll find it all here!

Anjuna Beach

If you are an Indian, I am sure you’ve watched ‘Tanha Tanha’ from Rangeela. Now apart from appreciating Urmila’s beauty in that song, I am sure you’ve also wondered which rocky beach she is dancing at. The answer to that question is Anjuna!

Anjuna is located right next to Baga and yet looks so much different thanks to its rocky coastline. Go fire up your Instagram (or Facebook or Whatsapp) with some fiery portraits of you on these rocks. (but don’t carelessly fall off a cliff and drown)

Vagator Beach

Further north from Anjuna is Vagator Beach. Technically, the beach is divided into two sections: the Big Vagator Beach and the Small Vagator Beach ( aka Ozran beach) But as a tourist, all that you need to care about is the sunset view from this beach. Technically, sunsets from most beaches in Goa are a visual treat. Yet, this beach enjoys more popularity because of the rich backdrop of stunning red cliffs, a giant Chapora fort and large rocky formations inside the waters.

Before 2020, this beach was also a huge party hub. But today, with lesser international tourist inflow, this lush beach is crawling upwards in my list of top places to visit in North Goa

Chapora Fort ( aka Dil Chahta Hai fort)

Chapora Fort is famous because it’s the place where that iconic scene from the movie ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ was shot and because the sunset views from here are truly special.

You sit right on top of the fort, overlooking the Vagator beach, as the sun silently makes its way into the water casting the perfect twilight over all of Goa. And you? You enjoy a special balcony view of this majestic natural phenomenon.

Day 2: Panjim/Old Goa

Today, it’s time to visit the Goan capital Panjim as well as its erstwhile capital Goa Velha or Old Goa. In fact, it is also the day to visit places in North Goa other than beaches.

Basilica of Bom Jesus

This is the most iconic place among all churches and cathedrals in Goa. This is because the place holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xaviers – the saint who brought Christianity to Goa in the 17th century. If you are someone who understands and appreciates architectural nuances, the baroque-styled church will definitely appeal to you.

But, mind you, on most touristic days (like long weekends and public holidays), you should expect to stand in a long queue to get inside. Factor an extra 30 minutes for this.

Se Cathedral/Church of St Francis of Assisi

Yet another magnificent cathedral, this cathedral is a stone’s throw away from Basilica of Bom Jesus. The Se Cathedral was built to mark the victory of Afonso de Albuquerque over the Muslim army. The Cathedral and the adjoining Church of St. Francis of Assisi are architecturally beautiful monuments. They also give a deep insight into the growth of Christianity in Goa.

Mangueshi Temple

Located about a 15-20 minute drive away from the Basilica of Bom Jesus, the Mangueshi Temple is an important place of worship for the Gaud Saraswats. The temple exudes a calming vibe and if you like visiting religious places, a visit to the Mangueshi Temple would be a rewarding experience for you.

But note that it is slightly farther away from Panjim

Fountainhas

This quarter in Panjim has gained massive popularity in recent times thanks to its Instagrammable value. It is a busy quarter with small lanes lined with the prettiest, colourful houses that are a true living example of the Portuguese architectural influence on Goa.

You will find many young creators clicking pictures here through the day. So if you want the perfect shot for your gram, be willing to wait patiently for that moment when traffic and crowds clear!

Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church

Every Bollywood buff has seen this church. From Simmba, Singham, Josh, Aashiqui 2 or even Kabhi Ha Kabhi Naa, this church has been a movie maker’s delight for ages. That’s also why it enjoy so much popularity amongst tourists visiting Goa.

It’s just a couple of minutes away from Fountainhas. Its architectural beauty never fails to impress and even the cold-hearted, artistically non-inclined tend to pull out their cameras to capture its beauty.

Dona Paula Jetty

This place is not a beach and yet is one of the best places to take in the views of the Arabian Sea. The benches at the jetty add to its relaxing vibe and you can just pass time observing the sushegaat lifestyle of Goa while also briefly participating in it.

The Dona Paula has also been featured in many Bollywood movies, the most important one among them being, Singham. Go there to spend some leisurely time with your peeps!

Miramar Beach

Miramar Beach to Goans is like the Chowpatty to Mumbaikars. It probably has the least touristy vibe as its primary visitors are local Goans who come here to meet their friends for a leisurely morning or evening walk.

As mundane and dull as this visual may seem to you, the beach itself is beautiful with palm trees skirting its sands. It is one of the most family-friendly beaches in all of Goa.

Day 3: Travel Further North

Today it’s time to travel further north from Vagator to explore the areas that regular tourists hardly ever visit. But in my opinion, this area is so beautiful that it deserves a separate Goa trip altogether.

Morjim Beach

There is a creek that separates the Vagator/Anjuna/Baga/Calangute side of North Goa from the Morjim side of North Goa.

Morjim Beach is easily the best place to visit in North Goa if you want to experience Goa’s raw beauty.

It is a rare white sand beach, lined with lush green trees and visited by cute turtles in the evening. You will not find more than a few dozen people on the beach if you were to visit it on a weekday. That’s how quiet and beautiful the beach is. But the good news is that it still has plenty of shacks to cater to its visitors. It also has a turtle nesting site that further accentuates its touristic value.

Mandrem Beach

This beach which is Morjim’s neighbour is mostly deserted even on long weekends and hence is one of the best beaches to visit in North Goa. There are a few cute cafés and shacks outside the beach. It is also one of the best places to visit in North Goa with family, especially when you want to set up your own sweet picnic and have a gala time with kids!

Ashwem Beach

I am going to award this beach the title of the best beach in Goa. The sand is soft and clean. The waters are relatively calm and the beach is a great place to swim. Plus, along the northern end of the beach, you will find a small creek that’s also cool enough for a quick dip.

The surrounding area has some great cafés for working people as well as the best places to stay in North Goa (near the beach). For workations and some quiet me-time, it’s best to base yourself in Ashwem.

Arambol Beach

Arambol, a few years ago, was rarely visited by locals. It was a home of hippies. But now, it presents the perfect balance of Goa’s natural delights and its crazy touristic vibes. The place comes alive in the evenings with its drum circles. Even during the day, loud music is often blaring out of its shacks while many Russian tourists are moving to some trance music. It is a great place to watch Goa come alive without actually having to mingle amongst sweaty crowds. (like those found in Baga and Calangute)

The famous road featured in the movie ‘Dear Zindagi’ is just about 15 minutes away from Baga. And it truly is worth a visit. There are very few roads that are so narrow, straight and lined with coconut trees on both sides. So if you like visiting filming locations that are so pretty that they can easily light up your Instagram, do visit this place.

Divar Island/Chorao Island

A short boat-ride away from Panjim lie the Divar Island and Chorao Island. You can transport your vehicle too to these islands and spend a quiet time away from the hustle-bustle of mainland Goa. Enjoy boat rides, drink feni and visit dilapidated monuments.

By the way, Chorao is also the home of Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary and many nature-lovers pay a visit to this place first thing in the morning.

The largest and one of the popular beaches in North Goa, Calangute is the contiguous beach of Baga, for the record not even the locals know the separation point of the two beaches. Established in 1977, State Archaeological Museum or Goa State Museum is the state’s archaeology museum. Chapora Fort

Built in 1617 by a Muslim ruler Adil Shah, Chapora Fort was the watch post of the border for the portuguese and many rulers. Situated on the suburbs of Panaji, Dona Paula is one of the popular tourist attractions in Goa. It is recognized as the home of the National Institute of Oceanography. Mangueshi Temple

Reckoned to be one of the largest temples in Goa, Mangueshi shrine is situated in Mangueshi Village in Priol. The main deity in the temple is that of God Manguesh, who is believed to be the incarnation of Lord Shiva. Unarguably, one of the best places to visit in North Goa, Mangueshi Temple is 450-year-old that stands out for its simple and yet exquisitely elegant structure. Built in 1890, the temple consists of several domes and balustrades. There even seats a prominent Nandi Bull and a beautiful seven-story octagonal deepstambh (lamp tower), stands inside the temple complex. The temple also has a magnificent water tank, which is believed to be the oldest part of the temple. There is a spacious assembly hall which can accommodate 500 people at a time. Chandeliers of the nineteenth century adorn the temple. The annual festivals include Rama Navami, Akshaya Tritiya, Anant Vritotsava, Navaratri, Dussehra, Diwali, Magha Purnima Festival (Jatrotsav) and Mahashivratri. The Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception

One of the top visiting places, built in 1541, this is reckoned to be the first church in Goa. Seeing a complete renovation in 1619, The Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception is a riot of heavy ornamentation. Believed to be a fine example of relatively simple architecture, the church still boasts of two flanking altars that on the left dedicated to Jesus Crucified and the right one dedicated to Our Lady of Rosary. A great deal of carvings can be seen on each side of the marble statues of St. Peter and St. Paul. The main altar is that of St. Francis Xavier; his glass encased statue is positioned centrally on the reredos. Anjuna Beach Flea Market is a small carnival in itself. Held every Wednesday from 9 AM to almost 8 PM from October to April, this market is visited by expats to Indian tourists to locals alike! Reis Magos Fort

Another interesting point of attraction in North Goa, Reis Magos Fort is named after Reis Magos, a village on the bank of River Mandovi in Badrez. Basilica of Bom Jesus

A renowned Catholic church, which is the oldest one in Goa, Basilica of Bom Jesus is famous for its astonishing baroque architecture. Goa has its own airdome which is well connected by domestic flights with major cities in India. Located around 26 kilometres from Panaji, the Dabolim Airport also receives international flights during the peak season. Moreover, you can also reach North Goa by availing a train to Madgaon Railway Station from where Panaji is around 41 kilometres.

You can also reach here by road taking a public or private bus from cities like Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Hampi. Lastly, one can also opt to reach North Goa by sea. Several cruise rides are available between Mumbai and Goa that function between October to May. However, for cruise rides, you have to book the ticket way in advance.
