What our Clients say about Us

It was my first time to ever visit Canada, Little did I know, I was going to experience one of the best Fishing Trips I have ever been on!!! The service was unbelievable, the Cabins were perfect! The food was so good! The Fishing Guides are the best, and everyone of them was so helpful, not only that, the shore lunches were unbelievable! We didn't want for one thing, your staff went out the way to make sure all was the best trip it could ever be!! Of Course the 45" Northern Pike I caught was so much fun! Your guide Frank loaned me his most favorite lure to catch that prize, and it was perfect!! Thanks to all of you for a wonderful experience!!!

Just a quick note to let you know what a special place Grass River lodge is for my dad and me. We continue to come back year after year for the awesome fishing, 12 trophies this year including a 49 in. pike which was a personal best. But the main reason for us is that I know if there ever is an issue you will stop at nothing to find a solution.

I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed my fishing trip. I really liked our guide Victor, he was very helpful in teaching me how to fish for big fish. I learned alot especially when I caught my 42 1/2 in. pike. His shore lunches were great also. I also liked how much fun he was to hang out with. Did I mention how GREAT the fishing was?

I want to pass along my gratitude for allowing us to have such a great time while we were there. Ike, the help you gave me with my truck was truly unexpected and I thank you so much for your help. You are truly amazing man, and your help and care for us while there was way beyond any expectation. Thank you very much. Liz, the food and accommodations were just awesome, thank you.

A Message From Ike

By now you, our fly in regular guests, have gotten used to my annual Manitoba summer report. You know that it is written right from my heart, with no professional touch ups.

When we first came to Grass River Lodge outpost I wanted many of the fishing regulations changed. When the wildlife personnel asked me how long I planned on staying at Grass River Lodge camp, my reply was a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of 15. Who would have guessed that this coming season would be our 34th year of fishing and lodges? It's hard to believe.

Remote Outpost Fly in Fishing in Northern Manitoba Canada | Cobham River Lodge

Our Manitoba fly-in outpost cabin is equipped with 110v AC lighting throughout the cabin and a gravity-feed water system for your water needs. Attached to your spacious cabin is a 10×24 foot fully screened porch, and as a final touch, we have installed satellite internet service. This gives you a sense of security with the ability to call for a plane in an emergency and keep up with the family’s happenings back home.

Your Manitoba fly-in outpost is the only cabin on a 6,400-acre lake, and your group is the only group on the lake. That ensures your privacy and trophy fishing opportunities.

The Manitoba fly-in outpost has 16-foot boats powered by 15 HP 4-stroke Yamaha outboard motors. The camp has enough boats to ensure you are fishing only two fishermen per boat. This Manitoba fly-in outpost also has a 17′ canoe for the many portage trips available from Hidden Lake. We furnish mounted cushioned swivel boat seats with backrests, life vests, and landing nets.

A Typical Day at Hidden Lake Outpost

Fishing Planner Expert

Cobham River Lodge is your home away from home in Canada’s great outdoors

Catch trophy pike with cobham river lodge, remote manitoba fly-in outpost fishing on a private lake.

Our Manitoba fly-in outpost on Hidden Lake offers you a trophy fishing experience in the secluded wilderness of Manitoba, Canada, on your private lake. Here, you can chase trophy Northern Pike and trophy Walleye all week long without interruptions and not another fishing boat on the lake other than your group. You will feel “Hidden” from the rest of the world as you concentrate on the important stuff, relaxation and fishing.

Our Manitoba fly-in outpost fishing can best be described with one word – action. Two people fishing at our Manitoba fly in Outpost commonly catch and release over 100 fish a day, with the record being 223 Walleye and Northern Pike caught in a single day. Pictures of your Canada fishing adventure will indeed include large stringers of Canadian Walleye. Trophy Northern Pike is also no stranger to the many cabbage weed-filled bays and inlets reserved for Manitoba, Canada’s lakes and rivers.

Manitoba Canada Walleye Fishing Trip | Cobham River Lodge

Our remote Manitoba fly-in outpost cabin is on a 6,400-acre lake with a chain of islands down the center. Hidden Lake’s shape and islands make fishing on windy days easy to deal with because there are always fishing spots or shorelines out of the wind. While fishing Hidden Lake, you can access three other lakes – Elliot Lake, Thunder Lake, and Blue Walleye Lake. Each lake offers premier trophy fishing with unique fishing opportunities within each lake.

Thunder Lake is a 25-minute ride up a channel north of Hidden Lake Outpost. Thunder Lake’s habitat is picture perfect for trophy Northern Pike because of its wrap-around bays and cabbage weed-filled inlets. When you leave the channel, look at the lake; you will know you have found a day full of fishing spots.

From Thunder Lake, you will have access to Blue Walleye Lake. While Blue Walleye Lake is only accessible via canoe, it offers you a chance to fish for the first known Walleye species, the “ Blue Pike .” While you must release all Blue Pike that you catch, it is fun to see how different the Blue Pike species are from the Walleye we all fish for today.

The last fishing area is Elliot Lake. Elliot Lake has proven to be a trophy Northern Pike haven, which has produced many of the trophy Northern Pike we see at Hidden Lake. Elliot Lake is a 32,000-acre lake with an average depth of 8 feet. The 50+ inch Northern Pike can be found in the numerous cabbage weed beds throughout the lake.

These Pike havens are virtually everywhere, including the middle of the lake. The trophy Northern Pike using these weed beds as their hunting grounds have produced many 50-inch and larger Pike over the years. Given the abundance of bait fish and weedy bays, you will find plenty of good Walleye fishing spots on Elliot Lake if you need to give your reel’s drag a rest from the trophy Northern Pike.

Bissett gets you into the heart of Canada on some of the most pristine lakes the world has to offer at the best value.

Bissett is a 3-hour drive from Winnipeg. Guests will plan to arrive the night before and stay at Papertown Inn. Guests will arrive the night before their departure and have an early morning departure on day 1 of their trip, which will still get you on the water by 8 a.m. at the lodge (weather permitting).

Bissett’s departure is included in the base rate.

Winnipeg Departure

Departing from Winnipeg provides our guests maximum convenience and the most comfortable door-to-door service. Add 695.00 per person. Based on double occupancy hotel rooms. (Additional 75.00 for single occupancy). Premium Rod rental is also included.

While this option is more costly upfront, guests have commented that they end up saving in the long run because

No rental car ~$300-$400 plus fuel ~$75 No hotels ~$150 Free premium rod rental ~$150 Cheaper flights home. Other lodge guests typically can only make the afternoon flights, which makes them more popular and often more expensive. Additionally, the earlier flight might be the only option for getting home the same day, depending on where you travel. Potential savings of $300-500. The whole experience can be best summed up as “You’re all set.”

Manitoba Is A Fishing Paradise:

What to expect:, explore untouched wilderness:, what are your needs and level of comfort desired, amenities , conservation practices, jackson's lodge and outposts, maria lake mini lodge -, cobham river lodge - , the lodge at little duck - , why manitoba is the perfect place for a fishing trip.

Manitoba is the perfect place for a bucket list guys trip . With a diverse range of fishing opportunities and untouched wilderness you'll be able to step back in time before the virgin forests were turned into stripmalls and the ponds were surrounded by golf courses. This Canadian province spans all the way from the northern borders of North Dakota and Minnesota to Hudson Bay and Nunavut at the top. That's nearly 700,000 square kilometers of unspoiled lakes and streams to explore. This makes Manitoba one of the best places in all of North America to visit if you are looking for a unique guys getaway with pristine waters filled with species like walleye, pike, bass, and trout.

Manitoba, with its vast and varied landscapes, offers an exceptional destination for a fishing trip. Home to countless lakes and rivers, it's particularly famous for its abundant populations of walleye, northern pike, and lake trout. Destinations like Lake Winnipeg, Lake Manitoba, and the Winnipeg River are hotspots for anglers seeking trophy catches. The province's diverse ecosystems also support a rich variety of other species, including smallmouth bass and Arctic grayling, providing a fulfilling experience regardless of the fishing style. Manitoba's pristine wilderness settings, often accessible only by floatplane, add an adventurous element to the fishing journey. The best times to visit are late spring through early fall, when the weather is favorable and the fish are most active. Whether you're an experienced angler or a novice, Manitoba's waterways, surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, promise a memorable fishing adventure.

There's quite a diversity when it comes to what to expect when taking a float plane fishing trip to explore Manitoba's thousands of fishing spots. Typically though, your trip will start with a flight from an established airport such as Winnipeg and then drive or fly to a remote destination where there will be a lodge and or a collection of cabins for guests to stay in. In some cases there might be additional hops, for instance with Jackson's Lodge and Outposts , they have a float plane base in Lac Dub Bonnet and then fly to other lakes from there.

Sometimes, this is the destination, and you will spend the next few days fishing from shore or taking a boat with a guide to secluded spots. Other times, this lodge area will serve as a home base, and you will take a float plane ride to various other, even more remote fishing spots in the Manitoba wilderness.

For most men, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience where you will be fishing on lakes filled with fish that barely even know what a lure looks like since you very well could be the only anglers those trout, walleye, and northern pike have seen in years!

The untouched wilderness of Manitoba offers an immersive experience, providing a chance to reconnect with nature and yourself. Regardless of whether you're a seasoned angler or a newbie, the province's fly-in fishing lodges offer a combination of comfort, adventure, and world-class angling experiences.

Amidst the excitement of the catch, the tranquility of the pristine waters, and the camaraderie of fellow fishing enthusiasts, you'll find a sense of belonging in Manitoba.

Fish Will You Find In Manitoba's Lakes And Rivers

While Walleye and Northern Pike are the primary targets that most guests are looking to catch when they think about planning a fly-in fishing trip here. However, there are several other fish found in the pristine lakes and waterways of Manitoba.

These species represent some of the most common and sought-after catches in Manitoba's rich and diverse aquatic environments. Each species offers a unique fishing experience, from the challenging fight of a northern pike to the delicious reward of a freshly caught walleye.

Choosing the Right Lodge

Choosing the right lodge for your fly-in fishing trip in Manitoba involves considering several key factors to ensure a comfortable and memorable experience.

The location of the lodge is crucial as it should provide ample opportunities for fly-in fishing and wilderness exploration. Some lodges are located on smaller lakes that are a shorter trip while others are located on vast tracts of land far to the north of the province. As you would expect, these more remote outposts and fishing lodges tend to be more expensive and less frequently fished but you can't go wrong with any of these lakes. Manitoba's fishing has developed a legendary reputation for a reason!

It's beneficial to choose a lake lodge that matches your preferences and needs, making you feel like you're at home in the wilderness. A lodge with experienced guides can greatly enhance your trip by showing you the best fishing spots and assisting you in preparing traditional shore lunches.

The lodging and amenities provided by the lodge are equally important - comfortable accommodation, delicious meals, and necessary facilities can greatly enhance your stay. Customer service plays a significant role in your overall experience, so make sure it's top-notch. Additionally, for those who need to maintain contact with the outside world, some lodges and outposts such as some of those run by Gangler's do offer Satellite phone and free internet available onsite. For those of you who want to test their luck at more than just finding that trophy fish, they can also enjoy some time trying to win big with one of Canada's no deposit bonus casinos .

Furthermore, it's essential to assess the lodge's conservation practices. Choosing a lodge that supports catch-and-release policies shows a dedication to sustainable fishing, thus contributing to a healthier environment and improved fishing experiences for everyone.

Munroe Lake

Fly-In Fishing in Canada

An unforgettable canadian fly-in fishing experience.

You’re in for some of the best fly-in fishing Canada has to offer. Thanks to our remote location in Northern Manitoba, the waters of Munroe Lake remain virtually untouched by humans. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by rugged Canadian wilderness, crystal clear lakes, picturesque rivers, and all sorts of wildlife.

The remote lakes around our fly-in fishing outposts are teeming with fish—and you can find all kinds of exciting species here. We’re located right where taiga meets tundra, so you can catch everything from Northern Pike to Arctic Grayling.

No matter which species of fish you’re angling for, you’re in for the adventure of a lifetime. Some of our guests have even caught trophy fish at our lodge—it’s an unforgettable fly-in fishing experience!

Our Fishing Species

We’ve got some of the best fishing in Canada. As part of your fly-in fishing trip, you’ll get the opportunity to fish for three exciting species: Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Walleye and Arctic Grayling.

There are so many Lake Trout in our waters that you can practically reach out and grab them with your hands—no fishing line required! The Lake Trout in our rivers and lakes are feisty hunters, and that makes for some great fishing—you’ll have lots of fun catching dozens of lake Trout over the course of your fly-in fishing trip.

Northern Pike

We love a good fight—and here at Lake Munroe, that’s just what Northern Pike provide. The Northern Pike near our fly-in fishing lodge are huge, and when there’s an opportunity to feed, they’re not shy. We’ve caught Pike with almost any bait you can imagine—just be sure to tie a fluorocarbon leader to your line, or these big ambush predators might bite off more than you’d expect.

Arctic Grayling

Want to do some fly fishing during your fly-in fishing trip? Arctic Grayling are the perfect fish for you. We’ve had a world-record Arctic Grayling caught right here on Munroe Lake.

Arctic Grayling are beautiful fish—iridescent scales, gorgeous fins, and some exquisite markings. They’re a great option for beginners and pros alike, and if you love fly fishing, you’re in for an exciting time.

Here in Manitoba, we call them pickerel - but no matter what name you call them by, walleye are a blast to fish for - and a delight to eat! We recommend catching them using live baits - minnows work best.

Our lakes are full of walleye - they like to hang out in deeper waters, and they can be a bit finicky, which makes them an excellent target for seasoned anglers looking for a bit of a challenge - and for a tasty supper.

Book Your Fly-in Fishing Trip Today!

Arrival day:

4:30 pm Arrive at Wings Over Kississing Base located on the north side of the Thompson airport

Luggage and gear are weighed and loaded on the aircraft

5:00 pm Departure from Thompson on wheeled nine-seater Cessna Caravan

During the 90 minute, 242 mile flight, you will notice changes in geography, from thick boreal forest to sparse pre-tundra.

Eventually you will see a strip of cleared land on a hill. That means you have spotted our 3300-foot gravel airstrip.

As the Caravan circle to land, try to spot moose or bear in the surrounding areas, or just absorb the pristine remote wilderness that will be yours for the length of your stay at Munroe Lake Lodge.

6:30 pm Arrival At Munroe Lake Lodge

Once the Caravan lands, the pilot opens the door you will be greeted by the lodge manager.

You luggage and gear will be brought down to the main lodge and you will be assigned a room.

After you settle in your room, you will be offered a hearty meal.

You will then be invited to attend a short orientation meeting where lodge manager will go over schedules, safety measures, and general information.

You can then go fishing for a few hours or just relax at the main lodge.

Regular Fishing days schedule

7:00 am Breakfast is served

After breakfast, if you have decided not to go with a shore lunch, you will be invited to the kitchen to prepare your lunch for the day.

You will walk the 50 yards to the dock where the lodge manager and the guides will have the boats ready to go. Each boat will have a full boat tank, extra fuel, depth finder with fresh battery, GPS-SPOT, seat cushions, life jackets, net or cradle. Everything you need for a great day of fishing.

Lodge Manager likes to be at the dock when you leave for the day and when you return after the day of fishing, to make sure you have everything you need or to hear about what you would like for the next time you go out.

8:00 am – 5:30 pm

Usually the first day is more of an exploration of various spots. Then, the rest of the trip, you expand on these spots. Each morning a weather report is published and available in the main lounge. Depending on weather you could head down to the south end of Munroe Lake to fish for Arctic Grayling in the Greening River or try out some spots in and around McKinnon Bay for some trophy Northern Pike or Lake Trout. You could decide to stay on the East side and try your luck on some of the beaches, weed beds, and rock piles, including the beautiful and inspiring Thomas Bay.

One day you might decide to stay on the West side, exploring Brownstone River, or Pike Bay. If you decide not to wander too far from the main lodge, you could concentrate on many of the nearby hot spots such as

1st or 2nd Narrows,

2 north rivers,

or many others.

5:30 pm

Every day our staff will have prepared a different delicious appetizer available in the main lounge. Many of our guests enjoy their favorite beverage while they try out these tasty treats.

6:00 pm Supper is served.

After supper, you can go fishing for a few hours, go for a walk, or just relax in the main lounge. We just like to know where you are planning to go, for safety purposes.

When you are ready, you can retire to your room for the evening. Our guests tend to sleep very well, with all the excitement of fishing, good food, and fresh air.

Manitoba Metis leader wins battle over fishing ticket as charge is stayed

Manitoba Métis Federation President David Chartrand is pictured during a June 21, 2024 interview. (Danton Unger/CTV News Winnipeg)

The Crown has stayed proceedings against Manitoba Metis Federation president David Chartrand, who was given a ticket alleging he was fishing without a licence.

Chartrand was given the ticket on a lake near the northern community of Cranberry Portage on June 30, and was accused of angling outside of the areas where the Manitoba government recognizes Metis harvesting rights.

Chartrand said from the beginning he did nothing wrong and that the conservation officer was not properly informed.

The Manitoba government recognizes Metis natural resource harvesting rights, which includes the right to fish without a licence, in most of southern, central and western Manitoba, along with a small area in the northwest.

The Manitoba Metis Federation is pushing to have those areas expanded, and the government is considering the issue.

Dana Rudy, deputy minister of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources, says a decision was made in late June to back off enforcement against Metis harvesters in the areas being considered.

Documents obtained by The Canadian Press show the matter was discussed in the days after Chartrand was ticketed.

The documents, obtained under the freedom of information law, are heavily redacted and portions that have been released do not mention Chartrand by name -- only that Metis individuals were seen fishing without a licence on June 30 on the Cranberry Lakes, outside of the Metis harvesting areas set by the province in 2012.

"The individuals were fishing outside of the recognized harvesting area. The officer advised the individuals their rights are not recognized in the area where they were fishing and they are required to have a licence to fish in that area," Kristin Hayward, an assistant deputy minister, wrote in a July 2 note to Rudy and others.

"Given there is no formal agreement between Manitoba and the MMF to expand the boundary beyond the 2012 map, conservation officers continue to enforce based on the 2012 boundary."

One week later, a draft version of information on Metis harvesting for conservation officers was developed, although its contents have been withheld under three exemptions in the freedom of information law: advice to a public body, information that could be legal privilege, and information that could harm the relationship between the provincial government and another government or Indigenous band council.

The push for expanded Metis harvesting rights is being opposed by some First Nations leaders in Manitoba.

While the MMF says it has historical ties to communities across the north, some First Nations chiefs say treaty rights based on people who were on the land thousands of years ago take precedence. They have demanded the province consult First Nations before any expansion.

The NDP government said Monday discussions are ongoing.

"We're continuing to work with the MMF on this issue and have conversations around it, and part of that is to have conversations with local communities," said Jamie Moses, minister of natural resources.
