The Las Vegas Aviators, Las Vegas’ longest running sporting institution, kicks off every season at Las Vegas Ballpark located in Downtown Summerlin . Equipped with 10,000 seats, exciting amenities, elevated food options and many other surprises, here’s what you need to know about Las Vegas’ thrilling state-of-the-at facility.

Not Your Average Concession Stand Forget watered-down beer and limp hot dogs. Las Vegas Ballpark’s menu is chock full of local favorites and elevated classics. Snack on your favorite items from places like Capriotti’s, The Goodwich, Me Gusta Tacos and Ferraro’s Ristorante , while cooling off with a Frosé (one of Giada’s signature frozen drinks) or a beer from Tanaya Creek Brewery. And don’t forget the hot dogs. The upgraded and exciting bacon-wrapped dog with unexpected topping choices is a game-changer thought up by Sparrow + Wolf chef, Brian Howard.

Enjoy the Suite Life When you want that luxury ballgame experience, it’s no surprise that Las Vegas goes above and beyond. If you really want to do a baseball game Vegas-style, watch it unfold just beyond the left-center fence, from the pool. Accommodating up to 50 people with cabanas, lounge chairs and the crystal-clear water, is there any better way to witness the action? Inside the ballpark, the club level is equipped with a private entrance, elevator and restrooms, all of which are climate controlled. The gameday suites can be rented by the game and can accommodate 18, 36 or 54 guests. If that’s not enough, the party decks, kids’ zone and numerous bars will provide a game experience that is unlike any other ballpark in the world.

You Won’t Miss a Thing You’ll never miss a second of the game, thanks to the 31-foot high and 126-foot wide big screen. The Daktronics video board will showcase all the live action, instant replays, animations and more during the games. Plus, on off nights, the ballpark will screen movies for Summerlin residents and visitors.

Upgraded Player Amenities It’s not just the fans who will be treated to the finer things in life. The players will enjoy amenities that are rarely found in any ballpark in the country. Las Vegas Ballpark features indoor batting cages, a weight room and a rehabilitation center among other upgraded facilities to keep the team in tip-top playing shape.

Ongoing Promotions Fans have come to expect the fun promotions that come alongside a minor league baseball game, and Las Vegas Ballpark will uphold the tradition. From $2 beer night (on Thursdays) to free Aviators sunglasses, shirts, jerseys and more, the promotion schedule will keep fans coming back week after week to collect the one-of-a-kind swag.

Admire the View For those serious about keeping their head in the game, the Las Vegas Ballpark offers end-to-end walkability. With virtually 360-degree seating, you can watch the action from every angle, including just beyond left field behind the home run wall. From the stadium seats, fans can also admire the scenic beauty of Red Rock Canyon or the iconic landmarks on the Strip.

Beat the Heat Don’t let the heat deter you from enjoying America’s favorite pastime this summer. The Las Vegas Ballpark was crafted with desert weather in mind, complete with mesh-seating to ultimate comfort and fan circulation to combat the high temperatures. So, sit back and enjoy the game.

Prime Location Because the Las Vegas Ballpark is located near Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa , there is plenty to do both before and after the game. Whether lounging at the pool, grabbing dinner and cocktails, or enjoying live entertainment afterwards, you’ll be in the thick of it. As a perfect central meeting place, and adjacent to where the Vegas Golden Knights practice at City National Arena , catching a baseball game can easily turn into an all-day (and night) affair.

Free Parking As one of the biggest perks to locals and visitors alike, Las Vegas Ballpark will offer free parking. Beyond the parking around Downtown Summerlin and nearby the ballpark, Red Rock Resort will also offer free garage parking to fans. Another reason why catching a game (or several) this summer is a must for every baseball fan.

With all these amenities, it’s sure to be a good time. We can’t wait to see you there!

' src=

Las Vegas has been coined the entertainment capital of the world, but with all the splendor within the city limits, the area surrounding Las Vegas is among the most beautiful in the American Southwest. Several major national parks are within a reasonable drive from Las Vegas, and there are great national parks tours from Vegas that offer a welcome reprieve from the city life.

All you need to enjoy these tours to world-famous destinations is an adventurous spirit and some free time during your stay in Vegas. Whether you’re looking for a half-day getaway with lots of sightseeing stops or overnight stays in a painted desert, there’s a national parks tour from Las Vegas that’s perfect for you.

National Parks and Natural Wonders Near Las Vegas

Las Vegas is one of those rare destinations that appeal to both people who love the crazy city life and nightlife scene, along with other travelers who like the idea of being so close to many of the most famous parks on the national register. Whether you’re just visiting Las Vegas or are proud to call yourself a local, there’s a world of wonder and national parks right outside the door.

Of course, we’re speaking relatively here when we talk about these parks being close to Las Vegas. Certainly, they’re not a mere half-mile outside the city limits, but if you have a day (or even two) to explore, there are lots of national parks and nature areas that are a reasonable one to five-hour drive from Las Vegas.

Some of the most famous national parks and natural scenic areas within a half days drive from Las Vegas include:

  • Grand Canyon & the Colorado River
  • Bryce Canyon
  • Zion National Park
  • Hoover Dam & Lake Mead
  • Valley of Fire
  • Death Valley
  • Joshua Tree
  • Red Rock Canyon
  • Lake Powell
  • Monument Valley
  • Antelope Canyon

If you have a little more time on your hands and are interested in an adventure that spans several days, there are tours from Las Vegas that will also take you to Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Canyonlands National Park. These adventures may include a helicopter tour, airplane transportation, or motorcoach with an experienced bus driver and tour director who will narrate the journey as you travel through many scenic areas.

For now, we’ve selected eight top national parks tours from Las Vegas. In full disclosure, not all of these are true national parks, but they are national scenic areas, which we think are worthy of any travel bucket list.

2024 F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix tix available for Nevada residents

L as Vegas locals’ exclusive opportunity to purchase tickets to the 2024 Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix started Friday, with more general admission tickets available this year.

The Nevada resident presale runs through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, when fans can purchase three-day and single-day tickets to the race, scheduled for Nov. 21-23. Buyers must have a Nevada address associated with the credit card they use to purchase tickets. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Monday.

Locals noted they wanted more affordable options after last year’s inaugural race, and race officials responded by adding 7,000 general admission tickets for the 2024 event.

“Well, they were gone in a minute (last year), so we wanted to have more available,” Las Vegas Grand Prix Chief Operating Officer Betsy Fretwell said. “To be able to learn about the race and see what is happening here in Vegas firsthand. We’ve more than tripled the number of GA tickets available for our locals and they get first dibs.”

General admission zones include the Flamingo zone located on the Koval Lane straightway, Caesars Palace zone at the namesake hotel and the Sphere zone, located around the LED screen wrapped arena.

The general admission tickets start at $150 for single-day tickets in the Flamingo Zone to the practice session Nov. 21. Three-day general admission tickets start at $600 and the new three-of-a-kind package, allowing fans to take in the race in a different spectator zone each day, start at $2,100.

“They’re going to be able to have different levels of hospitality and views of the race if they buy the three-of-a-kind plan,” Fretwell said. “Different levels of food and beverage, different track viewing, including all of the activations.”

The Sphere spectator zone was where big name musical acts performed throughout the inaugural race weekend, and Fretwell anticipates the area will again be a popular viewing zone this year.

“The Sphere zone, that was super popular, we’re upping our game there,”Fretwell said. “People are really going to enjoy that.”

Fans looking for an elevated viewing experience can do so with the new shared hospitality areas, Club Overtake and the Turn 3 Club. Three-day tickets for Club Overtake, located on Koval, start at $5,5000, with tickets to the Turn 3 Club, located in the footprint of the F1 pit building, starting at $8,900.

These zones feature all-inclusive food and beverages, including beer and wine, with the Turn 3 Zone also featuring all-inclusive spirits.

Other high-end viewing experiences are available for as much as $35,000 for a three-day ticket to the F1 Garage. That upscale package includes a viewing area in a garage of the pit building, access to the rooftop club, all-inclusive food and beverage options, including alcohol, meet and greets with racing legends and a pit lane walk and truck tour of the race’s circuit.

Race officials are also working on other ways locals can participate in race weekend, with those details still being finalized.

“There are going to be other activations that happen during the race, we’re still working on building that out right now.” Fretwell said. “We’ve learned a lot over the year, and we’re going to build out an entire opportunity for folks to take full advantage of this incredible investment that we made here in the Las Vegas area.”

Las Vegas Sphere: Ultimate guide to seats, prices and how to see Dead Forever in 2024

las vegas ballpark tour

Competing for attention in Las Vegas with neon signs, billboards and mega-resorts that resemble European palaces and Egyptian pyramids is no easy feat.

But an eight-month-old orb with a talent for shapeshifting is stealing a little of their thunder.

Sphere at The Venetian Resort , an entertainment venue that opened September 2023 just off the Las Vegas Strip , has garnered much attention since its debut for its immersive audio-visual experiences.

See the 366-foot-tall venue from the outside at night and it captivates people for its ability to project images from its exterior shell (also called the Exosphere) containing 580,000 square feet of LED lights, whether it's the Earth, the surface of Mars, a blinking eye, or an emoji. It developed a reputation for causing traffic gridlock since the projections began last year during the Fourth of July.

Inside, the venue's 160,000-square-foot display with 16K by 16K resolution displays immersive visuals, backed by the world's largest beamforming audio system, according to The Venetian .

If you're planning a trip to Las Vegas, check our guides on the best ways to get there from Phoenix , free things to do , which hotels offer free parking , and how to check for bedbugs in hotels .

If you can't get to Vegas just yet, the newly opened Caesars Republic Scottsdale hotel and upcoming VAI Resort in Glendale offer the luxury of Vegas in the Valley, though neither has a casino.

Here's everything to know about the Las Vegas Sphere.

What is the Sphere in Las Vegas?

Described on its website as "a next-generation entertainment medium that is redefining the future of live entertainment," Sphere is an immersive venue that uses haptics (seats that can move and vibrate), atmospheric simulations and visual effects to "transport audiences to places real and imagined."

The Sphere Experience, the main attraction inside the Sphere, is a two-part attraction. The first part, guided by a humanoid robot called Aura, includes a 360-degree avatar capture and a 50-foot-high holographic installation.

The second part is a viewing of an immersive film called "Postcard From Earth" by director Darren Aronofsky on Sphere's largest, highest-definition screen. "Postcard From Earth" is described as part nature documentary, part science fiction movie.

Sphere has also hosted concerts, with U2 inaugurating it with a 40-show residency that launched on Sept. 29, 2023. Sporting events are coming as well: UFC President Dana White said in February that he booked Sphere for UFC 306, scheduled for Sept. 14, 2024.

Where is the Sphere in Las Vegas?

Sphere is at the intersection of Sands Avenue and Koval Lane, just off the Las Vegas Strip and about 1 mile east of The Venetian.

Its address is 255 Sands Ave., Las Vegas.

Who owns the Sphere in Las Vegas?

Sphere is owned by Sphere Entertainment Co., which was spun off from Madison Square Garden Entertainment in April 2023.

Can you go inside the Vegas Sphere?

Yes, but it will cost you. Every guest must have a ticket for a show to enter the Sphere.

How many people does the Sphere hold?

Sphere can seat 17,500 people and has a standing room capacity of 20,000, according to The Venetian .

Do the seats move in the Sphere?

Of the Sphere's 17,500 seats, 10,000 of them are described as "haptic seats," or seats that are capable of moving and vibrating.

Where are the bad seats in the Sphere?

Any seats with an overhang of upper levels will obstruct the view of the stage and/or screen.

USA Today's 10Best suggests avoiding certain seats in the far right and far left sections in the 100 level, where rows 30 and higher are completely obstructed by the overhang.

The 200, 300 and 400 levels offer the best seats.

How long does the Sphere Experience last?

The Sphere Experience lasts just under two hours, with 60 minutes for the interactive experiences and 50 minutes for the "Postcard From Earth" film.

How long will U2 be at the Sphere?

U2 played the final show of its U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere residency on March 2, 2024.

Who is performing at the Sphere in 2024?

After U2's residency ended, the jam band Phish became the second music act to play Sphere. Their four-show residency ran April 18-21.

Members of Dead & Company, a spinoff of the Grateful Dead featuring former members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart along with singer and guitarist John Mayer, will perform a 24-show Sphere residency called Dead Forever. The residency, which runs from May 16 to July 13, will begin a year after their final tour made a stop in Phoenix .

How much does it cost to go to Sphere Vegas?

It depends on the show and what day you plan to visit.

The Sphere Experience starts at $79 per person during the week and $99 per person on weekends.

Tickets for Dead & Company's Dead Forever residency start at $145 per person.

Is the Sphere worth going to?

Sphere has attracted an assortment of highly positive and highly negative reviews from travelers.

It has a user rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars on Google. One user, Phillipe Beaumier , called Sphere "a once in a lifetime experience" and described the immersive audio and visual as "so incredible, you feel like you are part of the travel!"

Tripadvisor users gave Sphere more mixed reviews, with an overall rating of 3 out of 5 stars. Most of its bad reviews were critical of the message of the "Postcard From Earth" film in the Sphere Experience.

A one-star review from a Tripadvisor user named Kathryn W. expressed disappointment with the Sphere Experience's humanoid robots and how "a couple of robots that are comparable to (Amazon's virtual assistant) Alexa can't answer a question." Kathryn added that the moving seats "could be mistaken for someone kicking the back of your chair."

Ben's Biz: Weird memories from ballpark road trips

This is an excerpt from the latest edition of the Ben's Biz Beat Newsletter, bringing Minor League Baseball business and culture news to your inbox each and every Thursday. Check out the full newsletter HERE .

Last month, a newsletter reader named Karen emailed the following question: “What is the most bizarre thing you have experienced at a Minor League game?”

Great question, Karen. Thank you. Over 13 seasons of travel, encompassing over 300 visits to 186 Minor League ballparks, I have seen (and been a participant in) a lot of bizarre happenings. So many that I couldn’t possibly pick just one moment to stand out above the rest.

What follows is a brief compendium of strange things I’ve seen at the ballpark, presented in chronological order. There is so much more where this came from -- the below examples are no more recent than 2011 -- and I hope and expect that there will be more to come. My next ballpark road trip kicks off on May 2.

Postgame Laaser Light Show (Altoona Curve; Aug. 2, 2007) The man in the above photo, taken during a rainy evening at Richmond’s The Diamond in 2015, is former Minor League Baseball (and Virginia Tech) broadcaster Jon Laaser. I had first crossed paths with Laaser eight years previously, when I visited Altoona to witness the Curve’s annual Awful Night promotion (my first ballpark road trip ever). The intentionally execrable evening culminated in what was advertised to fans over the PA as a “Postgame Laaser Light Show.” But note the spelling -- this show was simply Curve broadcaster Laaser, dressed in a body suit, dancing on the field while twirling glow sticks. I do not have any photos from this evening, and the video that was embedded within my MiLB.com recap has long since disintegrated into digital dust. But, believe me, it happened.

Postgame Sword Swallower (Huntsville Stars; May 15, 2009) When the 2009 season began, I was still employed on a part-time basis and not yet able to realize my ballpark road trip goals. I was itching to get out there, though, and recruited two friends of mine to travel to Alabama so that we could participate in the Huntsville Stars’ World Record attempt in the category of “Longest Wiffle Ball Game of All Time.” The game was scheduled to begin following the conclusion of a Friday game and then last until 6 p.m. Sunday, but rain put the kibosh on all that.

However! Stars general manager Buck Rogers had booked sword swallower Dan Meyers for the occasion, and he performed on the field following the rainout to a small crowd of front office staffers and hangers-on. Standing on the outfield grass and watching a Minor League GM pull a sword out of a man’s mouth with a bullwhip was maybe the most surreal thing I ever witnessed at a ballpark. I didn’t dream it, either. The videos are still on YouTube.

Mascot Camp “Performance” (Harrisburg Senators; July 17, 2010) 2010 was my first season as a full-time Minor League Baseball writer, and I was eager to expand my horizons. To that end, I attended a three-day mascot camp in Annville, Pa., that culminated in a performance at a Harrisburg Senators game. I transformed into a hirsute fellow who, for reasons that I cannot fully recall, was named Giorgio the Bloggerman. The whole thing was a blur, the camp run a bit haphazardly, and I remember being at the ballpark with no real idea of what I was supposed to be doing. One of our bits involved us on the field with that night’s special guest, legendary wrestler Sgt. Slaughter.

After what seemed to be an interminable amount of time sweating it out while standing in a tunnel and being glared at intimidatingly by Sgt. Slaughter, our moment in the spotlight arrived. It was mascot basic training, and he ordered the ramshackle coterie of mascots before him to do pushups. I was just trying to keep my head on straight, literally.

Tooth Celebrity (Inland Empire 66ers; May 18, 2011) My first trip to see the San Bernardino-based Inland Empire 66ers was imbued with an anarchic spirit from the jump. My time at the ballpark began at a 66ers team meeting held outside the ballpark, in which bats and other equipment were burned in a trash can as a means to exorcise offensive demons. From there it was a whirlwind, culminating with my appearance in an on-field “Molar Race” sponsored by a local dentist. I won that race, but what I remember most is signing autographs for kids on the berm before the race began. I didn’t know if I -- a racing molar -- had a name, so I just scrawled “Tooth” on a variety of hats, baseballs and t-shirts. I hope those kids held on to those items, because they’re surely worth some serious money these days.

Gorilla Goes Ape (Lake Elsinore Storm; May 19, 2011) The anarchic California League vibes stayed with me as I traveled from San Bernardino to Lake Elsinore, home of the Storm. At the time the team had a menagerie of bizarre ballpark characters, highlighted by the easily angered Grounds Crew Gorilla. As I wrote in my Ben’s Biz Blog post :

[T]he Gorilla was upstaged in a dance contest by a younger, more nimble female gorilla. This enraged him, so he darted into the visiting dugout and then up the hilly berm area. At the top of the hill he picked up a portion of the fence separating the berm from the concourse and threw it with all his might.

The picture I took in the aftermath of this rage-fueled rampage is lousy -- a Sony Webbie was my documentation tool at the time -- but nonetheless it illustrates what occurred. This was Minor League Baseball at its most deeply strange, and therefore Minor League Baseball at its best.

Geez, I could go on and on. I should write a book. Publishers, please email me six-figure advance offers here: [email protected] . Anyone else: Email me and ask me a question, whatever’s on your mind. It may lead to a newsletter feature such as this!
