The India vs Australia Test series is scheduled to start on 06 April.

As the Paris Olympics 2024 are fast approaching, the Indian men’s hockey team is preparing for a Hockey Test series 2024 of warm-up matches from April 6 to April 13 in Australia. Hockey India’s tour to Australia in 2024 will feature India, currently ranked world no. 5, facing Australia in a five-match test series. The tour will conclude on April 13th.

The series in Australia will be crucial for preparation, as they will take on the defending Commonwealth Games Champion, Australia, in Perth, from April 6 to April 13, 2024.

This will be team India’s first competition since their participation in the Men’s FIH Pro League 2023-24 Indian leg. The Men in Blue currently stand third in the Pro League standings. The Indian team won two matches against Ireland and one match against Spain, lost one match to Australia, and four matches ended in a draw. Their final match was a high-scoring victory (4-0) against Ireland.

Harmanpreet Singh will lead a 27-member Indian team representing the country on the tour to Australia. Hardik, who was awarded the FIH Player of the Year in 2023, has been named the deputy captain once again.

Araijeet Singh Hundal and Boby Singh Dhami have been included in the team, thanks to their outstanding performances at the Men’s FIH Hockey Junior World Cup 2023.

Indian men’s hockey team secured a spot for the Paris Olympics 2024 by winning a gold medal at the Asian Games in 2022. In the previous Olympics in Tokyo, the Indian team ended a 41-year medal drought by defeating Germany 5-4 to win the bronze medal.

Indian hockey team concedes two late goals to lose 3-1 to Australia in fourth Test

Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored India’s only goal. India’s fifth and final Test match of the tour will be played on Saturday.

The Indian men’s hockey team conceded two goals in the final quarter to lose 3-1 to Australia in its fourth game of the five-match series in Perth on Friday.

This was India’s fourth loss on the tour in as many games. The Australian men’s hockey team won the opening game 5-1, the second 4-2 and the previous contest by a narrow 2-1 margin.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh (12’) gave his team the lead in the first quarter but Jeremy Hayward (19’, 47’) and Jack Welch (54’) responded for the Kookaburras with three goals.

The Indian hockey team , two places below Australia in the FIH rankings at fifth, came out with a positive intent. Mandeep Singh, left unmarked in the circle, unleashed a powerful shot on goal but was denied by the Australian goalkeeper Johan Durst in the first minute.

However, India continued to press forward and earned multiple penalty corners. They finally got the breakthrough in the 12th minute through Harmanpreet Singh’s searing drag-flick.

The Kookaburras came out all guns blazing in the second quarter. They capitalised on their second PC of the quarter with Jeremy Hayward expertly placing the ball into the net.

The match continued with intense back-and-forth action, yet neither team managed to find the back of the net again in the second quarter and the third.

The final quarter commenced with Australia swiftly entering the circle and earning consecutive penalty corners. Jeremy Hayward gave his team the lead by converting the second penalty corner.

India almost immediately breached the Kookaburras’ defence but could not get the final touches to the ball.

The hosts then extended their advantage with Jack Welch finding the net from a penalty corner, making it 3-1 in Australia's favour.

India secured three consecutive penalty corners in the final stages of the game but could not convert their chances.

The Indian men’s hockey team will face Australia for the fifth and final match of the series, part of India’s Paris 2024 Olympics preparations, at the same venue on Saturday.

P ERTH: India continued their dismal show in the crucial tour Down Under, losing 1-3 against Australia to suffer their fourth consecutive defeat in the five-match men's hockey Test series, here on Friday.

Contrary to the final result, it was a much-improved performance from the Indians but the Kookaburras were simply too strong.

All the four goals in the match, which started 40 minutes late due to lightning, came from penalty corners.

India took the lead in the 12th minute through skipper Harmanpreet Singh but Jeremy Hayward's (19th, 47th) brace and Jack Welch (54th) strike handed Australia yet another win in the series.

India were decimated 1-5 in the opening Test, while they lost the second and third Tests 2-4 and 1-2 respectively.

It was an entertaining first quarter with both the teams matching each other.

India had the first shy at the goal in the opening minute through Mandeep Singh, whose hit from the top of the circle off skipper Harmanpreet's Singh's pass from the deep was saved by an alert Australian keeper.

The Kookaburras were not to be left behind as they secured back-to-back penalty corners in the second minute but veteran India goalkeeper PR Sreejesh was superb under the bar, making twin saves to deny their opponents.

Unlike the previous three games where they relied more on aerial long passes to penetrate the Australian defence, the Indians used the midfield smartly, building their attacks with fine ball transfer.

It worked well as India secured their first penalty corner in the 10th minute but Jugraj Singh failed to convert the chance.

A minute later, Australia earned their third penalty corner, followed by another but the Indians defended stoutly.

India took the lead in the 12th minute when Harmanpreet converted their second penalty corner with a low and hard flick to the left of the goalkeeper.

Down a goal, the Kookaburras put relentless pressure on the Indians and drew level in the 19th minute when Hayward converted their fifth penalty corner with a powerful flick.

Soon, Rajkumar Pal's reverse hit from the top of the circle hit the post for India.

Minutes later, Australia secured their sixth penalty corner but reserve goalkeeper Suraj Karkera made a brilliant save to keep his side in the contest.

There was nothing to separate the two teams in the first half as both matched each other stick for stick.

Minutes after the change of ends, India secured another penalty corner but Harmanpreet failed to breach the Australian defence.

Thereafter, it was a mid-field slugfest with both India and Australia seemingly in no mood to give an inch as the 1-1 deadlock continued.

Two minutes into the final quarter, Australia earned back-to-back penalty corners, the second of which was converted by Hayward with another fierce low flick to the right of reserve keeper Karkera, who replaced Krishan Bahadur in the team.

The hosts kept up the pressure on the Indian goal and secured two more penalty corners in the next minute but couldn't utilise.

Six minutes later, Australia secured another penalty corner and this time Welch sounded the board.

India had their chances as well in the form of three penalty corners in the last four minutes but wasted the opportunities.

The final Test of the series will be played here on Saturday.
