Personalized Gift Process

Our process is quite different than what you might experience with crafters who make signs on the spot at a fair or craft event.   We use the best, clearest wood, clear redwood and clear western red cedar.  Both woods are at the top of the list for woods that take the longest to decay outdoors.   We do not cut our sign blanks in advance, so that we can make sure that all the lettering is carved as evenly as possible.   No letters are deeper or lighter than their neighboring words, because the wood when we carve is straight and true.

We use professional sign paint for our borders and lettering.   Because of it's composition it takes a long time to dry, and therefore our total process takes at least 3 days and sometimes up to 5 or 7 days.   How long our signs take depends on the humidity level, and the humidity level depends on where we are making the signs at the time.   We like to travel.   So many summers we are living in our RV and making signs in our work trailer.  Humidity levels can be a real bear during the summer camping season.   It just takes a little longer to get the wood right before we carve.  

Once the sign is carved and the lettering and edges are blackened we paint any color graphics by hand along with paw prints.   Therefore some of our graphics are limited to the size they are shown in the example, and can't be squeezed into smaller spaces, if we are to hand paint them. RV units with all their details get very very small spaces to paint, and we've given up on trying to do that.

Gary then assembles the parts to the signs, along with a coat of colored water repellent sealer. They dry again overnight and I pack and ship along with printing the labels. One or both of us makes the trip to the Post Office, or if we are in an ideal location, our postal carrier picks them up and they are off to their destination.

All of this takes more time than people expect, and it is very hard to predict in advance, the exact number of days it will take to produce a sign. Of course that calculation is also dependent on what comes before your sign, and whether the humidity and wood cooperate for the 10 signs before yours as well.

We have grown enough to be busy all year round.   We are no longer taking special event requests for delivery less than 2 weeks out.  Please order well in advance of your gift giving date.   Christmas orders should be placed prior to November 20th.  Place Father's Day orders prior to May 25th.  We do not accept requests for Express shipping.

Live edge really showcases the natural beauty of a redwood tree. Sometimes they still contain bark, big knots and branches, or have a beautiful golden edge. Live edge slabs are 2"x (2 inch thick) reclaimed old growth redwood slabs. They are great for indoors or outdoors, and are typically more durable than the classic routed edge sign as they are twice as thick. 

Routered Edge Sign

Routed edge signs are made on 1"x (3/4 inch thick) redwood, and are great for indoors and outdoors. Routed edge sign sizes, while approximate, are true to size, compared to live edge signs which have a lot of variation in shape and size.

Once an order is received, the sign is usually made within 3-5 business days. Signs ship USPS Priority Mail, 1-3 day.  You will receive a tracking number and notifications when your sign is shipped, out for delivery, and delivered.  Sign ordered during the holiday season (Nov-Dec) typically will take extra time to ship. Keep this in mind and order holiday presents early!

Once or twice a year

To weather resistant your wood sign yourself we recommend using Helmsman© brand (or your favorite) Spar or Poly Urethane aerosol spray can.  Apply 3 good coats front and back, allowing at least 2 hours to dry between coats, following the manufacturer's instructions.  Repeat every 6 months or as needed for long-lasting shine and protection.

Woman found living in Michigan grocery store sign, complete with computer and Keurig, for months

A woman was found living in the rooftop sign of a Family Fare grocery store in Michigan and had been there for about a year, police said.

Police in Midland were notified about the woman living in the small space that hosts the supermarket’s sign on April 23 after contractors working on the roof found her there.

The woman had flooring, a computer, a desk, a printer, a Keurig and a pantry of food in the space, which was 10 to 15 feet long, five feet wide and approximately 8 feet tall at its highest point, according to the Midland Police Department.

“We made contact with her and she was advised she was not allowed to live there,” said Brennon Warren, a spokesperson for the Midland Police Department. “She was formally trespassed from the store and was provided with information on services within our area, however, she did not wish for any of those.”

The woman, who police are not identifying, left without incident. Police found that she’d been living in the space for approximately one year, but it’s not clear how she was getting up onto the roof.

She was not formally charged for living in the space, police said.

Titans Claim Two Off Waivers

The Tennessee Titans finalized their 53-man roster on Tuesday, but they are not done making moves.

Each team had a chance to put in waiver claims on any player that was cut yesterday, and the Titans decided to bring two players onto the roster.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport , the Titans have claimed Houston Texans defensive end Ali Gaye and Dallas Cowboys defensive back Julius Wood.

Gaye, 25, is from The Gambia in west Africa but came to the United States at the age of 12. After playing at community colleges for two years, Gaye transferred to LSU ahead of the 2020 season. He spent three years at LSU and went undrafted in 2023. He signed with the Texans after the draft and was on the practice squad for all of last season.

He stayed with the Texans for training camp again this year and the team was hoping to get him back on the practice squad for 2024. However, the AFC South rival Titans scooped him up, and he'll be the fifth defensive lineman behind Jeffery Simmons, rookie T'Vondre Sweat, Sebastian Joseph-Day and Keondre Coburn.

Wood, 23, went undrafted this year following three seasons at East Carolina. He led the Pirates in tackles in each of the last two seasons, making him a priority free agent when he signed with the Cowboys after not being chosen in the draft. He joins a safety room that is fluttered with veterans like Amani Hooker, Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs.

The Titans now have 55 on the roster, so they will have to cut two players in order to bring on Gaye and Wood.

They will begin practicing soon and preparing for the Titans season opener on Sunday, Sept. 8 against the Chicago Bears.

“ Yellowstone ” is almost back. The Paramount Network series has revealed a first look at the long-awaited second half of Season 5.

The beloved Paramount Network series, created by Taylor Sheridan — which has been running reruns on CBS — first launched in 2018. It has since become a cable phenomenon.

The eight-episode first half of Season 5 aired from November 2022 to January 2023; the six-episode second half is set to debut on Nov. 10, 2024.
