How to Travel From Larnaca to Limassol – Complete Transport Guide

Thinking to travel between Cyprus’s two famous cities? Then my mini guide will give you a detailed breakdown of all transport options for all budgets and help you understand what is the best way to travel from Larnaca to Limassol for you personally.

Mark and I traveled between Limassol and Larnaca 6 times in total using all means of transportation and this is why I’d love to share all transport methods and routes and mention how much they cost.

If you are on vacation and your Cyprus itinerary allows for it, I recommend turning this simple trip into a road trip adventure. In this way you’ll be able to spend either a few hours on the road or even the entire day, visiting scenic Cyprus villages and mountains. But if you are in a rush, you can get to Limassol in as little as 1 hour (even less) when travelling by taxi or private shuttle.

So without further ado, let’s see which transportation is ideal for you depending on your needs as a traveler.

Larnaca to Limassol Distance & Travel Time

The distance from Larnaca to Limassol is about 70 km or 43 miles (depending on which part of the city you are leaving from) and you can cover it in several ways, using an airport shuttle, taxi, private transfer, or rental cal. If traveling from Larnaca city, then instead of a shuttle there is a public bus (that I am going to talk about too). 

Roads in Cyprus are some of the best in Europe, so it will take about 40 minutes to travel by car, taxi or private transfer and around 1.5 hours by shuttle bus.

How to Get From Larnaca Airport to Limassol 

By bus – the cheapest but the slowest option.

Transfer by bus is suitable for those who are traveling alone or with two people with little luggage and prefer budget travel. There are two options for a bus transfer:

To take a shuttle bus called Limassol Airport Express (Larnaca) that runs directly from Larnaca Airport to Limassol . The final stop in Limassol is Agios Georgios Havouzas Church. The trip takes about 50 minutes.

This bus runs daily , leaving almost every hour:

00:30, 01:30, 04:00, 05:15, 07:15, 10:30, 11:45, 12:30, 13:45, 15:15, 16:15, 17:30, 19: 00, 20:15, 21:15, 22:15, 23:15

Ticket prices: adults – 9 euros, children – 4 euros

This option is the best for people on a tight budget since this is the most affordable way to get to Limassol from Larnaca airport.

For that, you need to take bus #425 or #419 which departs Larnaca airport to go to the city center first, and then it follows the route to Limassol making a few more stops along the way.

To find the stop, you need to go up the floor from the hall with arrivals to the departures and walk 30 meters to your left. There you’ll see a stop.

The fare is 1.5 euros. By one of these buses you go to Larnaca city where you need to get off at the Old Hospital stop and change to the Intercity Bus Larnaca-Limassol and travel to Limassol. The travel time between the Old Hospital stop and Limassol is 1.5 hours, the fare is 4 euros.

In total, you’ll spend 5.5 euros on the transfer Larnaca Airport – Limassol, saving 3.5 euros.

Intercity buses run from Larnaca to Limassol every 2-3 hours from 6:00 to 20:15 on weekdays and from 7:30 to 20:00 on weekends.

By Taxi – Comfortable but the Most Expensive Way

Finding a taxi driver at Larnaca airport is not a problem. They stand at the exit of the terminal to the right and left.

The cost of the trip is fixed by the government and is around €50-55 for a trip from Larnaca to Limassol during the day and €60-65 at night. On top of that, there is a cost for boarding a taxi which is 3.42 euros during the day and 4.36 at night from 20:30 to 6:00 in the morning. A kilometer of travel costs, respectively, 0.73 euros during the day and 0.85 euros at night.

By law, taxi drivers are supposed to have meters in their cars. It is very rare to receive offers to take you without a meter at supposedly the same price. If someone is offering to give you a lift without a meter, don’t be shy to refuse.

By Private Transfer – the Fastest & Most Comfortable but Expensive Way

For those who like to plan everything step by step and not depend on the circumstances or travel with friends or family, the most comfortable way to get from Larnaca airport to Limassol will be via private transfer. It can get you directly to your hotel in Limassol or anywhere else in the city.

The driver will wait on you near the exit with a sign and your name written on it.

The fare depends on the car and the number of passengers. For example, the cost of the trip for the whole family or group of friends up to 4 people will start from €53 for a car with a driver, depending on the class of the selected vehicle of course.

I found that the best company to book a private Limassol Larnaca car transfer is KiwiTaxi . Travel time is around 1 hour and a possibility to order online from anywhere.

By Rental Car – the Most Convenient and the Most Affordable Option

The best option for independent travelers who look to get the most out of their vacation in Cyprus is to travel by car. If you have a driver’s license and desire to visit the most picturesque places of the republic with an abundance of attractions, you should rent a vehicle.

Driving from Larnaca to Limassol (as to anywhere else on the island) can be a lot of fun. There are plenty of places to stop along the way for food and sightseeing, and if you give yourself more time for the journey, there are a few interesting detours you can make as well.

I personally love driving in Cyprus and think it is one of the best countries in Europe for road trips.

Where to Hire a Car in Larnaca

The best company to rent a car from is MyRentaCar which, by the way, is the only company that can deliver a car to your hotel or apartment if needed. Otherwise, you can also pick it up at the airport.

The journey between these two important cities in Cyprus is a short one. You don’t need a lot of planning and can easily decide on the type of transportation at the last minute.

However, if you are traveling in the high summer season and thinking to hire a car or private transfer, it is recommended to make reservations ahead of time. 

If your main concern is just to get from point A to B, then the shuttle bus will be the best option in terms of value and comfort. But if you look to start your trip with adventure and travel in comfort, why not rent a car and be your own driver.

Wizz Air celebrates 8 million passengers milestone at Larnaca airport

Wizz Air has announced a significant milestone at Larnaca International Airport, with the airline reaching 8 million passengers travelling to and from the airport since commencing operations in Cyprus.

This achievement underscores the airline's unwavering commitment to offering affordable and high-quality travel experiences, it said in a press release. “Since its establishment at Larnaca International Airport, Wizz Air has consistently aimed to surpass passenger expectations by providing an extensive range of destinations, exceptional service, and competitive fares, making travel accessible to all,” it added. “Wizz Air has cemented its role as a key partner in the Cypriot market and the largest airline at Larnaca International Airport.”

To meet increasing demand, Wizz Air continues to expand its route network from Larnaca International Airport, including the increase of flights for the summer and autumn season of this year that the airline recently announced.

In celebration of this milestone, Wizz Air awards a travel voucher to the passenger holding ticket number 8 million, saying it remains dedicated to offering affordable fares and a broad range of services and travel options. Wizz Air's goal is to sustain its high service quality while adapting to the evolving needs of the market, providing dependable and economical travel choices for passengers in Cyprus and beyond.
