Some war games offer a small glimpse into what things were like during the heat of battle. It’s a dark time for those involved, and in Six Days in Fallujah, we’re looking at a realistic take on one of the more tense battles during the war in Iraq. More specifically, we’re getting accounts from soldiers present during The Second Battle of Fallujah. This battle took place in 2004 when Al Qaeda seized control of Fallujah, a city now home to its local residents’ brutal conditions. American and British forces worked together for six days as they fought to free Fallujah. Players can expect a tactical FPS experience with online co-op if they wish to play with friends. However, this is an early access title, so the full gameplay experience is still being developed.

Look, sure, Assassins Creed isn’t exactly historically accurate. But it is historically a lot of fun, and that’s what counts for games like these. You can go from Italy to London to Egypt to Greece to basically anywhere, there’s so many games in the series and all of them are at least pretty passable. The question is: What kind of assassin do you really want to be? Personally, I sees myself as quite the pirate.

Call Of Duty: World At War is a hell of an old game, that much is true. But it’s also an extremely fun and educational game (in a weird way). You travel through World War II and see the horrors of the war for yourself, learning how harsh it was back in the 1940’s and how incredible, insanely difficult it was for anybody to stay sane during one of the most horrific events in world history, even to this day.

L.A Noire is an underrated as hell game, one that people tend to not talk about when discussing Rockstar published games. It falls under the radar when compared directly to Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3, but it’s a really incredible detective story set in the 40’s in which you get to look at facial ticks and traits and work out what exactly is going on in multiple different crimes.

The 28 Best Games Involving Time Travel

Moving through time and space is a popular concept explored through many genres. It's a difficult element to get right, and these games do it best.

In video games, time travel can be as simple as rewinding gameplay or as complex as hopping across space-time dimensions. Furthermore, the concept is not limited to a single genre and is often manipulated in a variety of ways.

Ranking Every Mainline Final Fantasy Game By Its Battle System

Undoubtedly, people have been fascinated with time travel for a long time, even if the actual technology seems destined to remain exclusive to fiction. While some projects use it as a simple mechanic for retrying an action, other time travel games travel deep down the theoretical wormhole.

Updated on January 27, 2024, by Ritwik Mitra: Games need to understand the concept of time well if they wish to use it in their video games. Many titles have failed to adapt the full potential of the fourth dimension, which makes it all the more impressive when some games use the concept of time travel to great effect, elevating the quality of the final product as a result. These titles are incredible video games that fans should check out, especially if they want to see how effective time travel can be in a medium this immersive.

28 The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

Zelda travels back in time to heal the master sword for link, the legend of zelda: tears of the kingdom.

Tears of the Kingdom had some big shoes to fill and took its sweet time to come out. This wait was worthwhile since players got to experience what many people consider a worthy sequel despite retreading familiar ground.

The story is certainly improved by leaps and bounds, with Zelda's tale being a fascinating one. She decides to become a dragon and help the Master Sword repair for ten thousand years before Link can finally harness its power once again.

27 Twelve Minutes

A time loop adventure that is pretty intriguing despite its missteps, twelve minutes.

The voice cast of Twelve Minutes was its biggest selling point, with James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem Dafoe taking on the role of the three characters who play a central role in this narrative. The story focuses on a husband who is killed by a home intruder, only for time to rewind twelve minutes after these events have transpired.

The repetition and frustration caused by the time loop mechanic can make things somewhat irritating, but the central mystery at the heart of things ties events together in a neat way. That being said, this plot twist can also have a mixed reception from players.

26 Prince Of Persia: Warrior Within

The prince embarks on a journey after being punished for his use of the sands of time.

After the success of Sands of Time , Ubisoft took the bold approach of making the sequel darker and more foreboding to appeal to a new audience. The results were pretty mixed, with some people hating the edgy nature of this title while others loved how metal this game was, with everything from the storyline to the characters reflecting this.

There's a lot of time travel involved in Warrior Within , and it's handled with great care. While backtracking can be a huge issue in this title, the rest of the experience is a rollercoaster ride that players just can't get enough of!

25 Steins;Gate

A mind-bending time travel adventure that explores trauma and ptsd in a nuanced manner, steins;gate elite.

Steins;Gate is an anime that many people consider to be one of the best sci-fi shows of all time. However, some people might not be aware that the show is an adaptation of a visual novel that uses time travel as its central mechanic. Players control the protagonist Rintaro Okabe, a self-proclaimed mad scientist, who discovers a way to send messages back in time via his phone.

15 Video Games That Will Help You Relax

The game involves navigating various branching timelines and making decisions that affect the outcome of the story. The use of time travel creates a complex and engaging narrative that keeps players invested throughout the story, with its many alternate endings revolving around whether players choose to mess around with the fabric of time or not.

24 Final Fantasy 13-2

The search for lightning spans different time periods, final fantasy 13-2.

Final Fantasy 13-2 serves as an official successor to one of the most divisive Final Fantasy games of all time. The sequel promotes Noel and Serah as protagonists and follows them as they travel through different moments in time in search of Lightning, who disappeared after the events of the first game.

Players who liked Final Fantasy 13 will likely have a great time with its sequel, especially if they wished the original game had more open areas and exploration. However, the story is pretty confusing, and even die-hard fans of Square Enix's franchise may find it hard to follow along with the plot.

23 Singularity

Time manipulation plays a central role in this underrated fps, singularity.

Singularity is a first-person shooter built around time manipulation. The game is set on an island in Russia called Katorga-12 where experiments with a substance called E99 have gone wrong, causing time anomalies and mutations.

Players use a device called the Time Manipulation Device (TMD) to navigate the island and manipulate time in various ways, such as aging or reversing objects and enemies. Singularity 's use of time manipulation creates unique and creative gameplay opportunities, making the FPS stand out from other entries in the genre.

22 Shadow Of Memories

A time loop adventure where players prevent the protagonist's death by traveling back in time, shadow of memories.

Shadow of Memories is a unique adventure game where players are tasked with preventing their murder by traveling back to the past. The protagonist, Eike, explores different time periods and makes several critical decisions that send ripples across the fabric of time and affect the outcome of the story.

The 20 Best Post-Apocalyptic Games of All Time, Ranked

The use of time travel in Shadow of Memories creates a sense of mystery and suspense, as players try to unravel the events leading up to Eike's death. It's easily the most underrated game on this list that fans should check out.

21 TimeShift

An overlooked fps that lets players mess around with time.

TimeShift is an FPS where players control a soldier who is equipped with a suit that allows them to mess around with the fabric of time. The game involves navigating through various environments and using time itself to solve puzzles and defeat enemies.

This innovative use of time manipulation in TimeShift adds a layer of strategy and creativity to the gameplay . It's a shame that many people don't talk about this title since TimeShift had many great things going for it despite also having its share of faults.

20 Outer Wilds

One of the best implementations of a time loop seen in a video game, outer wilds.

Outer Wilds is a pretty unique game that has been criminally overlooked by many fans. The game deals with a time loop where the Sun turns into a supernova in 22 minutes, prompting players to explore the world and figure out its secrets piece by piece.

The time loop mechanic of Outer Wilds makes every batch of exploration a joy to go through. Fans of great sci-fi narratives will have a great time piecing together the mystery of this game.

19 The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Time resets when the moon crashes into the earth every three days, the legend of zelda: majora's mask.

Majora's Mask builds upon the amazing engine of Ocarina of Time which was just a legendary title in its own right. It placed Link in a darker world where the moon would crash into the Earth and end all life in three days .

This set up a perpetual cycle where players had to slowly get through the game while keeping this three-day limit in mind. It made for a great time, with Majora's Mask being a fan favorite of many despite the game being in the shadow of its predecessor.

18 Prince Of Persia: The Two Thrones

The prince finds the dagger of time once again, with the vizier coming back after a major time reversal, prince of persia: the two thrones.

The Sands of Time trilogy is where many fans think the Prince of Persia series peaked. The first game was a masterclass, with Warrior Within improving upon the combat system extensively despite the tone becoming a bit too mature and edgy for its good.

The Two Thrones serves as a perfect middle ground between the approach Ubisoft took for the past two games in the series. The great combat innovations were kept intact while the overall vibe of the game was more in line with The Sands of Time . Of course, as is the case with most games in the series, The Two Thrones also lets players mess around with time for their benefit throughout this journey.

17 Day Of The Tentacle

A classic lucasarts point-and-click game that dabbles in time travel quite a bit, day of the tentacle.

Day of the Tentacle is a beloved point-and-click adventure game that many fans still hold in high regard to this day. The remaster of this game ensures that players can enjoy what made this game special without being deterred by its old visuals.

The 14 Best Anime That Deals With Time Travel

Day of the Tentacle prioritizes time travel quite a bit, interacting with environments across different time periods. It makes for an innovative premise with the puzzle-solving using this mechanic heavily as well.

16 Deathloop

A time loop that resets whenever colt fails to kill all eight visionaries by midnight.

Deathloop is another gem from Arkane Studios, combining their expertise in developing immersive sims with the concept of a time loop. Players need to kill eight targets in a row in the one-time loop to essentially finish the game.

This is easier said than done, and players need to come to grips with the mechanics of the game over multiple loops before attempting this herculean feat. It's a great gameplay loop, with the addition of Julianna making each journey through the loop a blast in its own right.

15 Back To The Future: The Game

A fun addition to the popular movie series with its own set of time-traveling shenanigans, back to the future: the game.

Back to the Future is one of the most iconic movie franchises of all time that focuses on time travel. However, most people aren't aware of the Back to the Future game released by Telltale that allows for a new chapter in this celebrated franchise.

Taking on the episodic format that was present in their adventure games, Back to the Future: The Game is a worthy addition to this celebrated franchise. The shenanigans that Morty and Doc Brown get up to throughout this title are quite entertaining and make for a fun adventure title.

A Revolutionary Indie Game Where Rewinding Time Is Critical To Solving Puzzles

Braid is one of the most innovative and entertaining indie titles of all time. The game's haunting story and excellent puzzle-solving mechanics make for an unforgettable experience that most people won't be forgetting anytime soon.

Rewinding time to figure out solutions to puzzles serves as the initial draw of the game, but it's the story that hooks players over time. Players who want to believe that they're the good guy in any video game will be in for a rude awakening when they check out Braid .

13 Dishonored 2

The stilton manor level is arkane at its very best, turning the concept of time into an ingenious gameplay mechanic, dishonored 2.

Arkane Studios has constantly been at the forefront of delivering spectacular immersive sim experiences. Dishonored 2 is no exception to this golden rule, with some people considering it to be superior to the critically acclaimed first game.

The level where players need to roam around Stilton Manor is easily one of the best parts of the entire game. This is mainly due to the innovative time travel mechanics present in this level that allow players to shift from the past to the present at a moment's notice.

12 EarthBound

Time travel plays a central role at both the start and end of the game.

The SNES was home to some of the most iconic games of all time. One such game was EarthBound , which has carved its way into the hearts of several gamers due to its amazing charm and imaginative gameplay.

15 JRPGs Perfect For Newcomers To The Genre

The game starts with a time traveler from the future who warns Ness about an impending apocalypse. Finally, near the end of the game, the party travels back in time so that they can fight the antagonist — Giygas — where he's at his most vulnerable.

11 Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective

Time is wound back before someone's death, with players using ghosts to manipulate objects and change fate, ghost trick: phantom detective.

Ghost Trick is easily one of the most underrated games ever made. The brainchild of the Ace Attorney series — Shu Takumi — was at the helm of this innovative mystery title that went under most people's radar upon release.

It's a shame, since Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is one of the most imaginative titles that uses the concept of time travel to great effect. Players need to prevent untimely murders by manipulating events as ghosts a few seconds before the time of death. Succeeding in doing so allows the player to alter the flow of time and help the story move smoothly.

10 Blinx: The Time Sweeper

Blinx: the time sweeper.

Released as an exclusive for the original Xbox, Blinx: The Time Sweeper is based on an anthropomorphic cat that can influence time in many ways. With the ability to speed up time, slow time down, stop time, and reverse events, time travel is an integral part of the game.

Blinx: The Time Sweeper is a fantastic game with immense replay value. How the medium of time is weaved with gameplay helps this title age spectacularly well, and it's a shame that this character didn't hit the ground running.

9 Quantum Break

Players use time powers in a sci-fi romp that can be a bit too overindulgent at times, quantum break.

From Remedy Entertainment comes an explosive action-adventure game out of science fiction. Quantum Break was released on PC and Xbox One in 2016. Initially, it would be a sequel to Alan Wake until the focus shifted to time travel.

Powers like "Time Vision" and "Time Echoes" are great examples of how the fourth dimension is used to elevate the title's gameplay, even if the nomenclature of these abilities could've used some work. The time-bending shenanigans in Quantum Break make it a fun game for players to get invested in.

Best Historical Games to Play and Relive the Past

While time travel is not available yet, there is one way to go back and participate in grand historical events. And this path leads to historical video games.

Do you dream of taking part in a massive medieval battle ? Or maybe want to try the hardships of World War II? Whatever you desire, history based video games will get you that and more! You can travel for any length of time, learning the history of the whole world and taking part in events from the past. Or create them from scratch. Or completely change the course of events. Sounds like fun? Welcome to the list of the most popular history games to play in 2023.

Company of Heroes 3

The third installment in a cult classic real-time strategy series, Company of Heroes 3 lets you do battle in the North African and Italian theaters of World War II.

Just like the previous Company of Heroes games, this one involves traditional RTS gameplay with base building and resource collection, a fun mix of strategy, tactics, and action. One of the new additions, however, is active pause during which you can queue up orders (available in the single-player mode only, of course). There are two campaigns where you play as the Allied Forces in Italy and Axis in North Africa. Italian partisans are present as NPCs who can aid you in the battle.

There’s even the Dynamic Campaign Map where no two playthroughs are the same. It’s a sandbox experience which gives you unprecedented control over the entire war effort. Coupled with intense multiplayer and excellent audiovisuals, Company of Heroes 3 is one of the most interesting World War II-themed strategy games available on the market right now. It’s complex without being daunting, like many other titles in this segment.

Steel Division 2

Set during Operation Bagration, Steel Division 2 is an even more complex real-time strategy where your tactical and strategical skills will really come to flourish (not that Company of Heroes is bad in this respect, of course).

There are two layers to the Dynamic Strategic Campaigns mode (single-player), sort of similar to the Total War series. The first one is a turn-based strategy where you plan your next moves and manage your army. Battles can be either resolved automatically or you can take matters into your own hands, changing the game into a real-time strategy where you deploy and command units based on the decks you previously created.

The multiplayer mode allows for huge ten versus ten battles on twenty five large maps based on battles that actually took place during the historical Operation Bagration. Mod support is also included. All in all, it’s a complete package for World War II afficionados, with painstakingly recreated maps and units.

Steel Division 2 Standard Edition

Hearts of Iron IV

Much like Europa Universalis, another hit title by Paradox Interactive, Hearts of Iron IV is a complex grand strategy which focuses on World War II, letting you either recreate its events faithfully or change the course of history.

So, you choose one of the nations and start the campaign in either 1936 or 1939. The game always ends in 1948. Your objective is to build a thriving country, both economically and military-wise. Researching new technologies and complex diplomatic relations with other nations are also a major part of the gameplay.

Hearts of Iron IV has received numerous expansion packs in the form of DLCs, which further expand available content and add numerous new features to the gameplay. It’s an absolute beast of a historical strategy, so if you’re interested in something on a grander scale instead of just single battles, be sure to check it out and grab the expansions for a rich wartime experience.

Hearts of Iron IV: Cadet Edition

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

If you are starved for some brutal Vikings-style conflicts this title will make all your dreams come true. Command a Nordic army and travel to 9th-century England to conquer new lands and become their ultimate ruler.

Play as Eivor, a Viking hero eager to create a new home for his army. Invade England, establish a prosperous settlement and take care of the wellbeing of your people. It will not be easy, as the English will do their best to get rid of the intruders. They will be led by Alfred the Great himself, and the further fate of this story will depend only on your decisions. In addition to the features of this era, AC fans can also enjoy their favorite activities like sailing, free exploration, or parkour.

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla | Standard Edition

God of War & GoW Ragnarök

It is a fantasy action game set in ancient Scandinavia. Follow the rest of the story of the unbreakable Kratos and lose yourself in the world of Norse myths to learn your destiny.

Guide the actions of Kratos and his son on a brand-new journey through mythical Scandinavia. On your way, you will meet hordes of bloodthirsty beasts and sly opponents who will do anything to stop you. Develop your skills, fight, and complete tasks to discover the following chapters of the story about the end of the world. This title presents a high-quality audiovisual setting that will captivate you from the very first moment of the game.

Age of Empires II

There is nothing like infinite power on the game map! In this legendary title, you will travel to the Middle Ages and face a strategic battle for supremacy against the civilizations of Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

Manage one of thirty-five civilizations in the most addictive strategy game ever. Collect resources, expand your empire, and advance to the next era to outrun your enemies. Build an unbeatable army and go through a series of thrilling campaigns to uncover 1,000 years of human history in one game. Age of Empires II is a must-have for every fan of historical games!

Crusader Kings 2

Welcome to 11th-century Europe. You are one of the many ruling lords on the medieval map, and your task is to successfully take care of the fate of the entire dynasty in times of greatest conflicts. If you are ready, you will have a lot of fun in this spin-off of the famous Europa Universalis !

Play as a mighty ruler desiring to dominate the map of Europe. It is a strategy game unlike any other, as its key feature is to keep the dynasty in a steady position during the many years of its rule. Don’t trust the Pope? Or maybe you want to ally yourself with the craziest king in your area? Do what you want and discover the most unexpected outcomes of your strategy!

Dynasty Warriors 9

It is an action game with hack and slash elements, where you will move to China at the turn of the 2nd and 3rd centuries. Enter the open world of the Chinese civil war and lose yourself in the madness of the battlefield!

Choose one of the 90 playable heroes, plan the placement of units and make an attack strategy. Join massive fights on the battlefield and use your skills to gain more and more experience and eliminate as many enemies as possible. This title is an atmospheric action game with tactical elements where you can go crazy in combat using the powers of your favorite heroes.

Ghost of Tsushima

It is like Assassin’s Creed but set in 13th-century Japan . Have fun in the engaging title, where you will abandon the samurai code for revenge against the cruel Mongols.

When a Mongol invasion massacres your island and its inhabitants, revenge becomes your only meaning in life. Become a Ghost – an invisible fighter that eliminates enemies by surprise. Explore the island’s open world, discover its secrets and gain experience. Fight with historically accurate weapons and sneak to achieve your goal. This title is a priceless gem for fans of historical stealth games.

Call of Duty: World at War

The jungle hides many secrets and dangers. And in this part of Call of Duty, the Japanese soldiers will be the gravest of them all. Travel back to WWII on the Eastern Front and discover the horrors of war like never before.

Complete a series of campaigns where you will play as an American soldier in Okinawa. Take part in the siege of Berlin and play as the fearless defender of Stalingrad. This title is a first-person shooter where you will experience the brutal atmosphere of World War II and try out new combat methods and an arsenal of weapons. The slightest mistake can cost you your life!

A Plague Tale: Innocence

The Black Death is one of the darkest periods in Europe’s history, and you can find it out in this game. Play as orphaned siblings desperately fleeing the Inquisition and the merciless plague.

Play as Hugo and Amicia to get right in the middle of a brutal story about omnipresent death. Your only task is to survive and use all your skills to escape the hands of chasers and rats. Sneak, explore, upgrade your equipment and discover the mystery of Hugo’s disease. It is a gripping tale about survival, fleeing, despair, and complex sibling relationships set in 14th-century France . Perfect for historical game enthusiasts.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

It is an action role-playing game set in 15th-century Central Europe. The title is a fantastic recommendation for all players fascinated by the Hussite Wars and fans of games like The Witcher or Skyrim .

Play as the poor son of a blacksmith who lives a peaceful life in Skalitz. When your village is completely destroyed, all you have to do is go on a journey. Explore the open world of medieval realities and get involved in the political situation of your country. Develop your character, make challenging decisions and fight in highly complex battles that can kill you in one second. This title is an epic adventure of change and courage that will challenge even fans of video games like Dark Souls.

Ryse: Son of Rome

If you love Ancient Rome, you will definitely enjoy this title. Ryse: Son of Rome is a spectacular action game where you can completely indulge in brutal battles on a historic battlefield.

Play as Marius Titus, a man seeking revenge for the death of his entire family. In search of an answer, the hero joins the army on a journey to Britain. Command your troops and fight your way through hordes of enemies! The combat in this title is deadly dynamic and satisfying, and the audiovisual setting delights. The story covers the hero’s entire life. But in addition to the main plot, you can also engage in side activities, like fighting your friends in Colosseum.

History-based video games are the most valuable treasure for many players who, for obvious reasons, cannot witness past events. They provide a simple opportunity to relive monumentally significant events, change their course and reshape the whole history. No genre would put so much power and satisfaction in the hands of the player. And would teach, solidify knowledge and entertain at the same time! Well, maybe 4X strategy games in space , but that’s another story.

Kahoot! stands with Ukraine

Kahoot! is committed to supporting Ukrainian educators and learners affected by the current crisis. To protect the integrity of our platform and our users, we will suspend offering Kahoot!’s services in Russia, with the exception of self-study.

history travel games

Ukrainian educators and learners need our support

We are deeply troubled and concerned by the violence and loss of life resulting from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. We stand with the people of Ukraine and we hope for the swiftest and most peaceful possible end to the current crisis.

Kahoot! has received a number of requests from schools and educators in Ukraine requesting the help of our services to continue teaching despite the disruption of the war. We have supported each of these and we are now offering Kahoot! EDU solutions for free for both K-12 and higher education institutions for one year to Ukrainian schools in need. In addition, we are fast-tracking translation and localization of the Kahoot! platform into Ukrainian.

Suspending commercial services and sales in Russia

Our commercial footprint in the Russian market is very limited. We do not have offices or representation in the country, nor do we have any physical operations or data services there. The overwhelming majority of our users in Russia are teachers and students using our free service.

Kahoot! is abiding by the international sanctions regime, and does not allow sales to sanctioned individuals or entities in Russia. Shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Kahoot! initiated a process to suspend offering of all commercial services in Russia. This includes but is not limited to online sales, assisted sales, app store sales and prohibiting sales to Russian corporations and organizations.

Prioritizing safe and secure use of the Kahoot! platform

As part of our mission to make learning awesome, and as education remains a fundamental human right, we offer teachers, students and personal users free access to our platform. We do this in more than 200 countries and regions in a spirit similar to public commons services, such as Wikipedia.

Similarly, inclusivity is one of Kahoot!’s overarching values. As such, our aim is to, whenever and wherever possible, offer children, schools and others the opportunity to use digital tools for impactful education and learning, irrespective of their background or location. This has been our guiding principle also for offering our service in Russia.

Among our first responses to the crisis was to swiftly expand our global moderation team’s monitoring on all Russia-related content to safeguard the integrity of the platform.

However, as the situation continues to escalate, it is vital that we are able to ensure that our platform is used according to our own guidelines and standards. Therefore, in addition to suspending sales, we will be taking all possible and necessary steps to suspend access to Kahoot! services in Russia, with the eventual exception of self-study mode which will feature only content verified by Kahoot!.

This will enable students, school children and other individual users to continue their learning journeys both safely and responsibly. We will continue to assess ways in which our services can be offered safely and responsibly to support all learners and educators, also those based in Russia.

Supporting our employees

At Kahoot!, we are not just a team in name, we are a team in practice. As such, we are committed to the well-being of our employees, especially those with ties to Ukraine, or those that in other ways are particularly affected by the war. We are providing these colleagues with any support we can.

Acknowledging the current situation, the Kahoot! Group made an emergency aid donation to Save the Children and the Norwegian Refugee Council. This is a contribution to support life-saving assistance and protection for innocent Ukrainian children, families and refugees.

As the situation in Ukraine continues to develop our teams across the company are actively monitoring the crisis so that we can respond in the most responsible and supportive way possible.

Our hearts go out to the people of Ukraine, their loved ones, and anyone affected by this crisis.

A Long Way In A Short Time - The History Of Fast Travel Games

We talk to CEO Oskar Burman on the history of this VR-exclusive developer as it prepares to put out its fourth title in three years.

In VR, you’ve probably noticed, there isn’t much you can depend on. This industry is a minefield of risky markets and unwieldy technology that any developer is lucky to simply navigate and come out on the other side unscathed, let alone successfully. But there is one studio that’s earned an uncharacteristic reliability in these past five years, and that’s Fast Travel Games.

The Stockholm-based studio, which has the luxury of neighbouring alongside talent hotbeds like DICE and Rovio, already has three released VR games under its belt and will add a fourth next month with Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife. None of its past titles are what you might consider stone cold VR classics. They are, however, consistent performers – rock solid in playability, considered in design and never anything less than enjoyable to experience.

Slipping a headset on to play a Fast Travel title often feels like sitting down in front of your console and booting up a new release. These are games you can count on, a persistent trait only a few studios can claim to have matched this far in. Whether it’s the core thrills of Apex Construct’s archery combat, the warmth of The Curious Tale Of The Stolen Pets’ whimsical worlds or even the brilliantly physical stealth of Budget Cuts 2 (co-developed with Neat Corp), we’ve come to depend on Fast Travel as a sort of VR constant.

Swedish Superstars

Perhaps that’s no surprise when you consider the culminative experience behind the studio’s three core founders. CTO Kristoffer Benjaminsson and Creative Director Erik Odeldahl both hail from DICE, working on the Battlefield and Mirror’s Edge series respectively. For a time CEO Oskar Burman also worked at the EA-owned juggernaut, but he’s also held senior positions at Just Cause developer, Avalanche Studios and, until 2016, was the General Manager of Angry Birds creator Rovio’s Stockholm studio. Quite a résumé between them, then.

Why leave the safety and comfort of those established studios for all this, though? Burman’s own story is familiar – dreams born after watching 90’s cult classic, The Lawnmower Man and then brought into stark reality after getting to demo the HTC Vive in 2015 at a space Valve’s Chet Faliszek had set up at the offices of Payday developer (and StarVR creator), Starbreeze. Talking to me over web-call, Burman even describes the experience with the same ‘mind-blown’ sound effect I think we’ve all made to translate our VR excitement at some point.

“I had been at Rovio for three of four years by that time,” Burman says, “I was leading that studio but I felt like now is the time to go and build my own studio and focus on VR. I’ve been kind of waiting for the right time to start something new, but this is the time.”

There were discussions, Burman notes, about possibly working on VR projects in their current positions, but the three didn’t want to be weighed down by corporate bureaucracy (which, to this day, is very real when it comes to VR). EA, for example, had shown interest in VR with a Star Wars: Battlefront experience on PSVR, but were years away from giving it the serious commitment seen in Squadrons. They wanted to be lean and nimble, to move fast, maybe break a few things, but start learning from those fragments right away. “That’s one of the things I’ve learned throughout the years is, when you launch games, that’s when you learn,” Burman says. The aptly-named Fast Travel Games was born.

The trio’s connections and body of work afforded it the benefit of venture capital, something few other start-up VR studios will have been fortunate enough to enjoy. But the team set it to work almost right away; the remaining months of 2015 were spent on R&D and securing office space (which, at first, included sharing with Budget Cuts’ Neat Corp) and Fast Travel’s first game entered development in the early days of 2016.

Constructing Apex Construct

The team had big ambitions within the context of the VR market. It wanted to make a full, multi-hour campaign, the kind that Burman and co had been crafting for their entire careers and a direct response to the influx of wave shooters and short experiences VR was seeing so much of at the time. Apex Construct, Fast Travel hoped, would be the game early VR adopters had been pining for.

Design was smart and tight, sticking to what we already knew worked in VR. There was archery-based combat against enemies that fired huge, glowing projectiles you could dodge, for example. Though the narrative was linear, Fast Travel built out wide-reaching levels that could be revisited in later missions to open up new doors and passages, a neat way to reuse assets whilst maintaining the illusion of progression. Apex was an exercise in ticking the boxes not normal checked by your standard VR fare.

Critically, it performed quite well but, to Burman and co’s surprise its efforts to make a game VR owners wanted weren’t immediately rewarded with sales. “I think, we were disappointed at launch because we thought the market– we just thought there would be more demand at that point in time,” he says.

Over time, thanks to news headsets like Quest, Apex’s sales did begin to pick up — something Burman notes as very unusual for a single-player narrative title — but those early days were definitely a challenge for Fast Travel. “I would say 2017 but even more 2018 was the tough years when the momentum kind of died off and you started to question yourself: is this going to happen? What’s going to drive it going forward?” Burman recalls.

But Apex did accomplish one key goal; it gave Fast Travel a lot to learn from. “We learned a lot about VR interactions and what you need to think about when designing a VR game,” Burman says. “There’s a lot of other people that can speak to this but the detail of interactions, the stuff you’re expecting in VR like, if you see a texture with a button on you go press it immediately.”

There was also the growing demand for smooth movement locomotion, which Fast Travel had to implement into the game at a fairly late stage (before it had been teleport-only). Indeed, the bones of Apex Construct can be seen in every game the developer’s made since, if not always in the most obvious of ways.

A Curious Diversion And A Stealthy Surprise

Fast Travel wouldn’t take these learnings into a direct sequel to Apex Construct. Instead, for its next project, it picked something a little smaller, more manageable and — on the surface at least — quite different from its debut title. The Curious Tale Of The Stolen Pets was a cutesy puzzler that looked a little like a VR version of a Wallace & Gromit animation. You didn’t fire a bow and arrow, but instead rotated diorama-sized worlds in search of cutesy critters hiding in sunken ships and chests filled with carrots.

This, Burman says, was a passion project for the game’s lead, James Hunt, who worked with a smaller team inside the now-growing Fast Travel Games in a short amount of time to produce something of a light treat. “It’s a shorter game but it’s in many ways more polished than Apex,” Burman says. “It’s polished through and through, and also how the art comes together with the music from Wintergatan. It really works out perfectly.”

And, like Apex before it, Curious Tale has slowly but surely built an audience. “I think it’s the best-selling game we have right now on the market,” Burman reveals. “We did the hand-tracking addition to the game last year and it seems like it’s sticking and has this kind of unique niche in the Quest ecosystem.”

But, even if Curious Tale was unexpected, it wasn’t half as surprising as Fast Travel’s collaboration with Neat to release Budget Cuts 2: Mission Insolvency. The first Budget Cuts was an early showcase of how VR literally changed the game, emphasising physical movements to remain out of sight and rewarding player skill in ways flatscreen games can’t quite match. It’s also a pretty consistent seller on Steam – so why did Neat ask for help on the sequel?

“It was pretty natural to us,” Burman explains. “We had been spending a lot for time together, we knew each other, we trusted each other. Neat felt like they really wanted to build a sequel to the game and they didn’t have the capacity to get it out in that short time-frame they wanted it out.”

And so Fast Travel was enlisted. “It was fun, to do something, to work together,” Burman recalls. And a deeper bond has formed because of it. The two studios are now working on separate projects, but share a Slack group to talk about other games and movies. You can’t help but wonder, as the VR industry grows, if these two along with other Stockholm VR developers like Resolution Games and Cortopia might begin to hold reputations just as respected as the gigantic mega-studios that surround them.

The Afterlife Awaits

Around the time Fast Travel was working on Curious Tale and Budget Cuts 2, though, another opportunity arose. Paradox Interactive, another Stockholm-based publisher, was interested in getting into VR. The question was how to do that; existing IP like Empire of Sin and Prison Architect likely didn’t seem like an ideal fit.

But Paradox also owns the rights to an entire universe of horrors, the World of Darkness franchise, home to a tabletop RPG and games like Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. Its lore is comprised of various mythical monsters creeping out of the shadows and causing all sorts of misery. Fertile ground for a VR horror game, then.

“We felt like this being a ghost must work very well in VR,” Burman says, referring to the Wraith factions in the world. Wraiths are, essentially, dead people. They can enter the world of the living and effect it with supernatural powers, which is exactly what Fast Travel pitched to Paradox for Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife.

“It’s… uh, it’s a horrifying game,” Burman adds with a laugh. He doesn’t share the same affinity for horror that Creative Director Erik Odeldahl clearly does , but still says Wraith represents some big steps for the team. “If you play Wraith, you can definitely see the history from Apex and from Budget Cuts 2 in it, but there’s also things from Curious Tale in terms of interactions and such. But we’re taking all our learnings into this project. It’s a lot of stuff we’ve learned throughout the years that’s coming together here. It’s definitely our most ambitious project yet.”

In our interview earlier this month, Odeldahl told me Fast Travel Games was named as such because himself, Burman and Benjaminsson saw VR headsets almost as a portal to instantly bring you to new worlds. But, looking at the developer’s expansive output in the space of the past few years, the label feels all the more appropriate. Wraith arrives on Quest and Rift on April 22nd, and there are SteamVR and PSVR versions arriving later down the line but, given the precedent Fast Travel has set, it might not be long until we hear about what’s next.

“We’re not going to be a horror studio from now on, we are going to move between genres, definitely,” Burman says, confirmed the studio is working on its next game (and even games) already. “Because I think we have the capability to do that and we have a great team that spans over different genres and games. So it’s going to be a variety. There’s a lot of stuff in the works. I really can’t say much more than that.”

Quite a rollercoaster of a few years, then, though that could be said of any VR developer at this point. What makes it all worth it for Burman is that, after all those ups and downs, Fast Travel is not only still here, but it’s growing, with nearly 30 employees already. “There’s so many that didn’t make it in a way,” Burman says of other studios, “like steered away and built something else. So I’m super proud of that. We’re still here, almost everyone in the team is still with us. It’s a bunch of true VR believers in this company that stick around and fought for this to happen.”

The Best Historical Strategy Games You Can Play Right Now

history travel games

From Ancient Rome to the machinations of colonial powers, strategy games give players a controlling role in history from the leisure of their desktop. Here are the best games armchair generals are guaranteed to identify with.

Imperator: Rome

history travel games

If there’s any game that is more guaranteed to make players feel like a combination of a field general, master tactician and Caesar-in-waiting, we haven’t played it… well, yet.

Imperator: Rome plonks players in the sandals of a general in the last days of the Republic and lets them get on with the business of empire building.

Imperator: Rome covers the gamut from battlefield tactics to real-politick negotiations to civilian management and all of the action is played out on an incredibly vast and detailed map that stretches from the British Isles to India. This is a game that is not only incredibly engaging, it sets a standard for historical strategy games as a genre.

Company of Heroes

Moving from the ancient world to the frontlines of World War Two , Company of Heroes has players oversee the two of the most pivotal Allied campaigns – the Battle of Normandy and the liberation of France . Coordinating these operations takes a deft use of the game’s Real-Time-Strategy (RTS) mechanics; players are also tasked with capturing resource points on the map, build bases and structures and guide their soldiers to victory.

The game’s robust single-player campaign is well complimented by its online mode in which players can control either the Allied or the Axis forces. It also has two superb expansion packs: Opposing Fronts, which pits the British 2nd Army against the German Panzer Elite, and Tales of Valor, which contains three missions for single-players and multiplayer modes including ‘Stonewall’, in which players repel waves of increasingly difficult enemies.

Its sequel, Company of Heroes 2, in which the action moves to the Eastern front and players control the Russian forces, is also well worth checking out. Meanwhile, Company of Heroes 3 is due for release in 2022.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI

When it comes to strategy games, the Civilization franchise stands head and shoulders over most competitors, and Civilization VI is no exception. Critically acclaimed – and deservedly so – on release, this instalment streamlines the user interface (UI), taking its cue from its immediate predecessor, but its central conceit remains the same: build up your faction from a disparate tribe to a world-dominating force.

In order to do this, players have to build up their cities, grow the strength and reach of their tribe’s culture and conquer the land around them through a combination of battles and diplomacy. The pace is a little faster – and all the better for it – the movement of units and establishment of resources from earlier games benefits immensely from the tile-based UI and the visual presentation is superb, making the entire experience come alive in a way that wasn’t present before. A must-have for any strategy game fan.

Total War: Shogun 2

history travel games

Gameplay from Total War: Shogun 2

Another entry in the excellent Total War series, Shogun 2 transports the action from Ancient Rome to Feudal Japan . The sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed games in this series, Shogun 2 places players in the shoes of a warlord in the aftermath of the Onin War and lets them get on with the business of empire building.

Shogun 2 brings the base levels of the franchise – battlefield tactics, resource management, diplomacy, settlement building – but ramps them up to a vivid degree. On top of that, players are able to use ninjas and geishas as assassins and spies respectively, adding a rather deliciously underhanded mechanic to the proceedings. A fantastic entry in the series .

Europa Universalis IV

history travel games

Gameplay from Europa Universalis IV

One of the most intimidating strategy games ever made, Europa Universalis IV is really worth exploring. It has one foot in history and one in fantasy – not the fantasy that includes dragons and the like – and it requires an almost laser-like level of attention if players plan to win through.

This is one of the hardest and most involved strategy games ever made. Rather than offering players the chance to hover above units on a battlefield controlling the tactical minutiae of each outcome, Europa Universalis IV is a resource management simulation that places most of its gameplay on organisation; players succeed here through having the best research systems, tech levels and national traits. It’s a game that is hard to play, but wonderful to master… provided one has the time.

Crusader Kings 3

history travel games

Gameplay from Crusader Kings 3

Whereas most historical strategy games require players to manage resources, fight battles, engage in diplomacy, build up supply lines and the like, Crusader Kings 3 makes the whole experience feel a lot more personal. The reason? All of the actions the player takes is based around the characteristics of the historical figure they choose.

In Crusader Kings 3, players can sign up to be as far up the totem pole as they like – ruler, duke, count and the like – which to a degree decides the difficulty level. When players pick their historical avatar, they’re presented with a talent tree based on the character they picked. This bleeds into the game and may provide them advantages or drawbacks on how they set about conquering the world. An experience like no other, Crusader Kings 3 is well worth exploring.

Table of Contents Show

Platforms: Windows, PS5

A common trend in more recent games is characters getting stuck in perpetual time loops and having to figure out a way to escape.

One of the more recent titles to explore this trope is Deathloop , an immersive sim shooter about a talented hitman who finds himself trapped in time on a party island with rival assassins.

To end the loop, you’ll have to eliminate the eight targets responsible for your serious case of déjà vu while also navigating the island’s numerous threats.

It’s a clever approach to open-ended gameplay that builds upon previous Arkane games such as Dishonored and only benefits from looking like an acid trip from the ‘70s.

The Forgotten City

Platforms: Windows, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch

Initially conceived as a Skyrim mod , The Forgotten City would eventually become a standalone game spearheaded by lead developer and writer Nick Pearce.

Set during an alternate version of the Roman Empire, it sees you exploring a city subjected to the Golden Rule: a religious mandate where any sinful action causes the entire population to turn into permanent gold statues.

While inspecting the rule’s origins and which transgressions it applies to, you’re advised someone in the city intends to violate it, urging you to travel back in time to prevent them.

It’s an interesting take on time travel that also explores the existential relationship between humanity and its laws, namely what is truly considered right or wrong.

Platform: PS5

Returnal is a PlayStation-exclusive third-person shooter about an astronaut who lands on an alien planet searching for a mysterious signal when she suddenly finds herself trapped in a time loop.

This is a great justification for the game’s roguelike design, which sees the protagonist resurrected after each death as she traverses the planet’s foreign environments and battles a host of extraterrestrial foes.

The further you progress, the stranger and more unsettling Selene’s visions become as she finds herself increasingly entangled in an ever-changing world.

If you manage to make it to the end and break the loop, you’ll be faced with some startling revelations about the main character and the planet that make for great sci-fi storytelling.

Platforms: Windows, PS5, Xbox Series X/S

Although time travel generally involves going forward or backward in history, you can extend this further to account for multiple realities or planes of existence.

With this mindset, one could argue that the horror game The Medium uses time travel as a game mechanic, with the main character able to travel between the spirit world and the living world.

In a practical sense, this allows you to make changes in either world that affects the other, such as unlocking doors to progress, obtaining a key item to solve a puzzle, or warding off hostile enemies.

The story follows psychic Marianne as she’s mysteriously summoned to an abandoned hotel where she’ll have to use her powers to unravel its history and help free the spirits trapped within its grounds.

Reminiscence

Platform: Windows

Reminiscence is a story-driven, psychological horror game that has you warping, jumping, and rewinding time and space in order to save your family.

In it, you play as a man living in a world that’s about to collapse into anarchy who suddenly discovers their wife and kids have mysteriously disappeared.

While searching your home for clues, you stumble upon a watch that lets you travel between two eras: the post-apocalyptic present, and 1950s American suburbia.

By switching back and forth between both realities, you’re able to alter the state of certain objects to solve puzzles and advance the story.

Inspired by sci-fi classics like Back to the Future, No Time sees you stealing a suspiciously familiar time machine vehicle from a secret facility before setting off on a time-traveling adventure.

Unlike many games in the genre which center on heavily scripted missions, the game functions as a time travel simulator with both story and sandbox elements.

As a result, you’re free to explore any date throughout history from 0-2030 AD while making sure not to destroy the current timeline by interfering as little as possible and avoiding your younger self.

The game also features a day/night cycle, various job minigames and side quests, crafting, and a combat system for dealing with pesky Time Agents.

Outer Wilds

Platforms: Windows, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

If you’re looking for an engaging and immersive time travel game about space exploration , look no further than Outer Wilds .

You take on the role of the newest recruit for Outer Wilds Ventures, a fledgling space program looking to expand its knowledge of the galaxy and its ancestors’ mysterious disappearance.

The narrative addresses various sci-fi clichés such as black holes, antimatter, and of course time travel, with your character confined in an everlasting 22-minute time loop.

This is complemented by a densely packed open world consisting of hand-crafted, explorable planets with interesting backstories and distinct hazards that can be tricky to navigate.

Twelve Minutes

Platforms: Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S

Twelve Minutes is an interactive thriller about a man having a romantic dinner with his wife when a mysterious man claiming to be a police detective shows up on his doorstep.

Things quickly escalate and eventually the man is killed, only to find himself transported to the beginning of the evening with his previous memories intact.

Confused and desperate, he sets out to break the time loop by searching the apartment for clues and interviewing each person involved.

While some of the game’s different endings get into weird, taboo territory, there are interesting puzzles and narrative threads to tug at that make the journey worthwhile, though we suggest following a guide.

Platforms: Windows, Mac

In the stealth puzzle adventure game Timelie , every second matters and can bring you one step closer to freedom or death.

The game has you taking on the role of a young woman with a special gift that lets her control the flow of time as if it were a media player, rewinding and fast-forwarding to gain new insights.

Harnessing this power allows her to manipulate obstacles in her path and avoid detection from robot patrols preventing her from leaving.

The story is quite compelling and the time travel mechanics are explored in some truly fascinating ways that become more complex the further you go.

The Gardens Between

Platforms: Windows, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Linux, Mac, iOS

The Gardens Between is an indie puzzle game created by The Voxel Agents that has you manipulating time 20 abstract, narrative-driven levels.

The game is unique in that you don’t control the main characters directly but rather move them backward and forwards through time while altering the state of different objects to progress.

Each level reveals more about the relationship between the two main characters, Arian and Frendt, chronicling the evolution of their friendship leading up to a life-changing event.

While it’s a short-lived experience, clocking in around 2.5 hours, The Gardens Between tells a compelling story and explores time travel mechanics in some fun and interesting ways.

Timespinner

Platforms: Windows, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Linux, Mac

Inspired by ‘90s action-platformers, Timespinner is a story-driven Metroidvania about a magical timekeeper named Lunais who seeks out revenge after her family is murdered by an evil empire.

Her quest for justice brings her to a mysterious and hostile world where she’ll have no choice but to wield her time manipulation power to defend herself and rewrite history.

The game has you exploring beautiful, atmospheric pixel art environments while switching between the past and present as you defeat enemies and acquire new powers.

Mastering Lunais’ time-manipulating abilities open up new possibilities for combat, which is further complemented by familiars that can be trained to fight on your side.

Life Is Strange

Platforms: Windows, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Linux, Mac, iOS, Android

A standout adventure title from Dontnod Studios and published by Square Enix, Life is Strange follows 18-year old aspiring photographer Max Caulfield as she comes to terms with her newfound powers.

Max has a supernatural ability that lets her move backward or forwards through time to alter the state of objects and their effect on the people around her.

Its applications vary depending on the scenario, allowing Max to mend relationships with her friends and family, solve bigger mysteries, and get revenge against the occasional bully.

Even if the gameplay aspect falls flat at times, the way time travel is introduced and incorporated into the structure of the story makes up for it.

Quantum Break

Platforms: Windows, Xbox One

Quantum Break is a cinematic action game from Remedy Games, best known for titles like Control and Alan Wake, and Max Payne.

In it, you take on the role of Jack Joyce, a man on a mission to prevent his timeline from ending by harnessing an array of unique time-based powers.

The story doubles as a live-action television series with certain events explained in further detail, which can require a bit more of a commitment than your average game.

With that said, Quantum Break is one of the best-looking time travel games in terms of graphical fidelity, boasting cool mind-bending camera tricks and special effects that still look great in 2024.

Platforms: Windows, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Mac

Superhot  sets itself apart from more traditional  FPS games  by introducing one clever mechanic: time only moves forward when you do.

This grants the player ample time to assess threats and determine the best course of action before setting it in motion with stylish shootouts and melee showdowns.

To ensure combat is always readable, the game employs a minimalist art style that does a great job at conveying info: enemies are always red, environments are white, and weapons are black.

While it’s best enjoyed in VR with full immersion, you’ll still have a lot of fun playing with a gamepad controller or just mouse and keyboard.

Titanfall 2

Platforms: Windows, PS4, Xbox One

The follow-up to Respawn’s criminally underrated  first-person shooter  features refined gunplay and fluid movement with a touch of time travel.

During Titanfall 2 ’s campaign, your character obtains a special wrist-mounted device that lets them swap back and forth between the past and present.

This is helpful for exploring deteriorating buildings, avoiding clusters of foes, and solving nature-based challenges as pilot Jack Cooper.

Combine this with exciting parkour-based platforming and an arsenal of satisfyingly powerful weaponry and it’s easy to see why Titanfall fans want to see the series return.

BioShock Infinite

Time travel in the BioShock series is presented as a plot device in which certain characters, namely Elizabeth and the Lutece twins, can create dimensional time-alternating portals called Tears.

To that point, the game’s take on parallel universes and how they affect the overarching story can be boiled down to a single quote: “There’s always a lighthouse, there’s always a man, there’s always a city.”

BioShock Infinite sees you venturing into a floating steampunk city called Columbia where citizens still cling to violent religious and racist beliefs.

In order to make sense of the series’ extensive timeline, consider playing through the first two games in the series or watching a recap video before starting Infinite.

Platforms: Windows, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Linux, Mac

Our final recommendation is Braid , a beloved indie puzzle platformer that comes from the mind of The Witness designer Jonathan Blow.

In it, you take on the role of a man named Tim as he attempts to rescue a princess from an evil monster using time manipulation.

If that description didn’t make it obvious enough, the game’s story is meant to critique popular trends in modern video games but also features some excellent time travel puzzles.

Levels cover everything from rewinding and fast-forwarding time, altering the state of certain objects, using your character’s movement to determine the flow of time, and much more we don’t wish to spoil.

Enhancing Geography Learning in the Classroom and at Home

Have you ever wondered why geography is crucial in our education system? It’s because geography provides us with an understanding of the world around us. It’s more than just memorizing countries, capitals, and landmarks.

It’s about understanding how landscapes form, how cultures develop and interact, and how economic systems are influenced by their physical environments.

So, how can we ensure that geography is taught effectively in our classrooms and supported at home?

In the classroom, geography should be taught as an exciting exploration of our planet. Teachers can use interactive maps, globes, and other visual aids to bring geography to life.

They can incorporate technology like Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to analyze spatial data, or virtual field trips to give students a firsthand look at different locations worldwide.

Additionally, real-world examples and current events can be used to illustrate geographic concepts, making lessons more relevant and engaging.

But what about at home? How can parents support this learning?

Parents can encourage their children’s interest in geography at home by incorporating it into everyday activities.

For instance, when planning a family trip, they can involve their child in the planning process, discussing different locations, climates, and cultures.

Parents can also use online resources, like educational games and apps, to make learning geography fun. Furthermore, discussing news stories related to geography can spark meaningful conversations and deepen understanding.

Remember, geography isn’t just about facts and figures. It’s about understanding the complex interconnections between people, places, and environments.

Teaching geography effectively in the classroom and supporting it at home can help our children become informed, globally aware citizens. Isn’t that a goal worth striving for?

Q1: Why is history a vital subject to teach in schools?

History is crucial because it allows us to understand our past, which in turn allows us to understand our present.

Students gain a sense of identity and understanding of the world around them by learning about historical events, individuals, and periods. It also helps to develop critical thinking skills as students analyze sources and construct informed arguments.

Q2: How can I make history lessons engaging and interactive in the classroom?

Incorporate storytelling into your lessons, as narratives are often more memorable than facts alone. Use primary sources like letters, diaries, and photographs to bring history to life.

Incorporating technology, such as educational videos, digital archives, and online games can also make lessons more engaging and interactive.

Q3: How can parents support history learning at home?

Parents can encourage their children’s interest in history by discussing family histories, visiting museums or historical sites, and reading historical fiction together.

They can also use online resources, such as educational websites and apps, to further support learning.

Q4: What are some effective strategies for teaching complex historical events or concepts?

Breaking down complex topics into smaller parts can make them more manageable. Start with the basic facts before delving into the complexities. Use visuals, timelines, and mind maps to help students understand the sequence of events and their connections.

Encourage discussion and debate to help students explore different perspectives.

Q5: How can I incorporate current events into my history lessons?

Linking historical events to current issues can make history more relevant and engaging for students.

This could involve comparing past events to current ones, discussing how historical events have shaped the present, or exploring the historical context of current issues.

Remember, history isn’t just about memorizing dates and facts. It’s about understanding how the past has shaped our world today.

Teaching history effectively in the classroom and supporting it at home can help students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the subject.

He also made Lakers history.
