Bajaj Auto updated the flagship cruiser motorcycle, the Avenger Cruise 220 to comply with the latest emission norms. The styling of the Avenger Cruise 220 BS6 continues to feature a typical cruiser motorcycle design with a low-slung saddle, rear-swept handlebar, a windscreen at the front and a long wheelbase.

Similarly, the hardware on this model remains unchanged from the BS4 motorcycle. Therefore, the shock absorption duties are handled by telescopic forks with a double anti-friction bush at the front and five-step adjustable twin springs at the back. The anchoring power comes from a 280mm disc at the front and a 130mm drum brake at the rear. The safety net on the motorcycle includes single-channel ABS.

Mechanical upgrades bring a fuel-injection system to this 220cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled, twin-spark, SOHC motor that can produce 18.7 bhp of power at 8,500 RPM and 17.5Nm of peak torque at 7,000 RPM. The engine of the Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 is linked to a five-speed gearbox.

The Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 is comfortable and functional for a long ride and ensures and the safety of the passenger. Overall, the Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 is a good bike.

Introduction

The bigger and better Avenger Cruise 220 stays true to the tagline of the brand with some little flaws here and there. The Avenger Street 160 is a young motorbike that debuted in 2019, while the Cruise 220 has been around for quite some time. Although these cousins share some similar attributes, Cruise 220 largely differs in terms of functional aspects, occupying the top tire of Bajaj’s Avenger lineup. Avenger Street 160 makes quite an impressive attempt to live up to the bold tagline ‘Feel like God’. The flagship cruiser of Bajaj is apparently the best entry-level motorcycle which offers what it has to do with utmost integrity. 

How is the design?

The Cruise 220 is an entry-level bike which is characterised by its low, long stance, generous usage of chrome and wire-spoke wheels. The ergonomics of the cruiser won’t disappoint either with your feet comfortably set forward, and the swept-back, wide handlebars will allow you to rear and manoeuvre the machine with minimum effort. The only issue in the ergonomics is that the bike’s handlebars tend to come in contact with the knees when filtering at a slower pace through traffic or making U-turns. The Cruise gets the same secondary console mounted on the tank as the Street with some additional tell-tale lights. The fuel gauge however is a fully digital console carefully placed between the handlebars. The non-adjustable windscreen will do no good to taller riders but restrict wind buffering for shorter riders. The old-school styling owes to the low seat and the raked-out front forks. The new colour schemes are really a treat for your eyes. 

How is the performance?

Much like Bajaj’s Street 160, this Avenger also carries the same engine that debuted first on a Pulsar model, but the power has been reduced. The oil-cooled, single-cylinder, 220 cc engine can achieve a maximum of 19.03 hp of power at 8500 rpm and 17.55 NM of peak torque at 7000 rpm. This engine, in practical application, is significantly calmer than the one used on the smaller Avenger. It feels more adept at controlling speeds on the highways by causing much stress. The riding range is about 494 km, making this Avenger pretty much functional on long hauls. Besides, its performance is marginally better and can pick up a speed of 100 kmph, 10 seconds faster than the Street. 

How does the Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 ride?

This Avenger boasts a higher capacity BS6 engine which has been paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The ergonomics will allow you to manoeuvre the bike with a minimum effort. The cruiser is not only good for city commutes, but performs well on off-road trips too. The fuel capacity of the cruiser is 13 litres and the good fuel economy makes this bike ideal on long hauls. It can pick up and maintain a good highway speed without causing stress. Vibrations are almost not felt except for at the seat and the foot pegs. It is both visually appealing with a retro impression and performs marginally better to give you a unique riding experience. 

How comfortable is the Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220?

The new Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 offers softer seats and a well-cushioned backrest support for the pillion. The low-slung seats also provide good thigh support for the rider. The feet of the rider are comfortably set forward, and the swept-back, wide handlebars will allow the rider to manoeuvre the machine with minimum effort. As mentioned earlier, the only issue is that the bike’s handlebars may come in contact with the knees when filtering at a slower pace through traffic or making U-turns. The seating posture is unaggressive, making the ride comfortable on long hauls. The bike does not feel uncomfortable at higher speeds either. 

How's the tech?

The Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 is propelled by an oil-cooled, single-cylinder, 220 cc engine that can achieve a maximum of 19.03 hp of power at 8500 rpm and 17.55 NM of peak torque at 7000 rpm. It comes with twin-spark plugs and is paired with a 5-speed gearbox unit. The fuel delivery mechanism is carried out through the fuel injection technique. The Cruise gets a secondary console mounted on the tank which is smaller in size and the primary console placed between the handlebars of the bike is fully digital. The multifunctional display has been given a blue backlight. This bike has a self-start mechanism. There is a telescopic front suspension with anti-friction brush and a rear twin-shock absorbing suspension. The braking duties are handled by a front disc brake of 260mm and a rear drum brake of 130 mm with a single-channel ABS.

Best 220 CC Cruiser Bike

I am Riding this bike from 2 years there is no issue still performing well like new. Every bikes has some disadvantages which are to be neglected or fixed. Best bike for Ladakh road trip. If you buying cruise 220 just buy some extra tubes or switch to tubeless.

Super cruise bike in this rate and class, no maintanence as of now. Very attractive design, eye catcher, getting milage 42km is superb in this class. Seating is good for long journey, no backpain at all. 100% satisfied.

It's been a year I am riding Avenger 220 cruise, crossed 25000km till now ....and bike is performing well....the seating is best for longer routes.......driven off road too it went well. Max speed reached 130........ average 40 sometimes 45 .......only one thing bajaj cam improve in this bike which is self start gear....yes this doesn't come with a kick so they need to more powerful self start system.

Like the Street 220, the Cruise features a 220cc DTS-i engine , delivers the same 18.76 bhp power and peak torque of 17.5 Nm . From the technical point of view, nothing has changed from the Street variant. It has some notable cosmetic changes in many fields. Avenger Cruise has an ergonomic changes in its handle bar when compared to the predecessors, which gives a more cruiser looks to this motorcycle. From the Street 220 this one has used more chrome in many areas. Some of the additions in new Cruise 220 are; low sung seat, long wheelbase, new windshield and of all the new swept back handle bars which give a distinct traditional character to this motorcycle. Bajaj Avenger BS6 review, road test: Entry-level unicorn cruisers ridden

We sampled both the bs6 bajaj avenger 220 cruise and bajaj avenger 160 street to understand if they are indeed a one-size-fits-all motorcycles or not..

I quite liked the Bajaj Avenger right from the time it was a Kawasaki Eliminator. But then I never rode one. The fear was that a gangly 6 footer (plus) might just not fit on the bike. This stayed until now. Bajaj Auto, called and asked if I will be interested in reviewing the new Bajaj Avenger BS6 range. When I explained to them my apprehensions, they insisted I go and take the bike to a longer route and not just in the confines of the city. To understand the motorcycle better, they also added the smaller Bajaj Avenger Street 160 to the mix. Well, now that’s hard to refuse! Roped in my photographer to ride one of the bikes and off we went to Mumbai’s favourite riding destination – Lonavla. The sweeping turns, the straights, and mainly the near 100km one-way journey were the right recipes for testing the Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise and Street 160 bikes.

Did you actually fit on the Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise and Avenger 160 Street?

Yes, quite comfortably. In fact, the seat has got to be one of the highlights of this bike. For example, it is almost like a sofa and you comfortably sink in. I didn’t have a sore bum after the near 10-hour shoot. The plan was to have breakfast at Lonavala at RamaKrishna, a popular restaurant, on entering the town. En route we shot for the video as well and the ‘gram. I started the journey with the Avenger 160. While my knees were above the fuel tank, the riding posture was comfortable, the mirrors were usable and the ground clearance (169mm) allowed me to stretch the bike’s legs. Speaking of which, the motorcycle comes with 17-inch front and 15-inch rear wheels, wrapped in MRF rubber.

The switch from 160 to 220 wasn’t as seamless as I thought it will be. The Bajaj Avenger 220 BS6 boasts slightly sweptback handlebars and seems a bit bigger as well, though both the bikes share their dimensions. So, the swap didn’t result in a dramatically different dimension though the experience on both is. One tends to be a bit more relaxed on the 220 whereas the 160 urges you to go a wee bit faster.

How different are the engines?

If you’ve ridden the Bajaj Pulsar NS160, then the Avenger Street’s motor will make you feel at home. It has the same peppiness and feel. It is quite a tractable engine and is equally at home both on the highway as well as on the street. The gearshifts though feel a bit mechanical yet effortless. In this aspect, the Avenger 220’s gearshift quality is one of the best in the Bajaj range. While the clutch on both the bikes is light, especially in traffic, I didn’t encounter any false neutral. Moreover, clutchless upshifts were met with the same enthusiasm as other sport-oriented bikes from Bajaj.

The Avenger 220’s motor comes off from the Pulsar 220F. The latter was once known as the “World’s Fastest Indian”. However, for use in the Avenger it has been detuned. It makes 19.03hp of power and 17.55Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Definitely, this motor is more at home at higher speeds with some left in the reserve for overtakes.

The common point between both the engine is the surprisingly good fuel efficiency. While we were running both the engines near the redline, almost all the time, the fuel economy returned by both were above 45kmpl. Astonishing! I believe the bikes will return better mileage once the engines are properly run-in.

Any difference in the feature-set of the Bajaj Avenger 160 and 220?

Lots actually. The Avenger 160 gets alloy wheels with tubeless tyres (a boon). It also gets a modest semi-digital instrument console with only the trip meter, odometer readouts. Both the bikes get a secondary meter on the fuel tank and it shows you the battery diagnosis and ABS malfunction indicator. Other changes between both the bikes include a fully digital instrument console, chrome, pillion seatback, higher kerb weight and of course the bigger engine in the 220 Cruise. The digital meter is quite lucid even in broad daylight and while the windshield does vibrate at higher speeds, it is only when you hit a pothole or an uneven road. At higher speeds or in city traffic, the mirrors, unlike the ones on the Street, are useless as one cannot adjust them much and they only seem to show you the pillion’s legs.

Ride and handling

There are next to no vibrations for the rider at usable speeds on both bikes. The engine refinement is very good. The pillion though has to contend with footpeg vibrations. Anyone sitting pillion on the Cruise will be a bit more comfortable due to the backrest. As for folks like me on the rider’s perch, the Avengers boast the best ride quality due to their soft suspension tuning. This being said, more than 300km at a stretch means I might have to contend with a slightly tired lower back.

Handling-wise in the city the motorcycles, contrary to my belief, proved to be quite nimble. Even u-turns because of the handlebar leverage are quite easy. Give it a winding road and the Cruise definitely seems more at home while surprisingly the Street took a bit more effort to tip. Footpeg clearance is decent on both the bikes though on account of overenthusiasm for the pictures, I did manage to grind the pegs a couple of times.

The ‘Feel Like God’ tagline definitely wasn’t made up. It is real and for one to experience themselves.

Reliability and build quality

Modern-day machines tend to be reliable barring few manufacturers that still pursue ancient production methods. With the Avenger 220 Cruise, it was noticed that after a couple of hard runs, the right side rear indicator screw had worked itself loose. Now, we tried fixing it with bare hands but without the availability of a torque wrench, the indicator just wouldn’t stay put. There was also the curious case of the battery side panel falling off the bike even though it was properly locked. I guess, these issues could have been sorted at the pre-delivery inspection stage. As for the 160, it worked like clockwork with impressive build quality.

Assumptions! Well, a ride and a decently long one cleared all doubts. The Avengers can be used by one and all. It’s very rare for a manufacturer to ensure one size fits all and Bajaj have done it. At Rs 1.24 lakh for the Cruise and Rs 1.03 lakh, ex-Delhi for the Street, these aren’t exactly the bargain that they were before BS6 norms came in. But, when you consider that there are no other cruisers (an opportunity for other bike makers) in this range barring the Suzuki Intruder, you will likely buy the Avengers.

But if I were to buy the Cruise, I will immediately switch to alloys and tubeless tyres. I will also add aux lights though the stock halogens are decent but not awesome. Better adjustable mirrors too will be on the list. That’s all the changes I will make. My assumption is Bajaj too will. In the next update.

Version Reviewed - Avenger street 150 Purchased As - Brand new (01-01-2016) Distance Covered - 5538 Km till date (26-28-2016) Fuel Economy - 50 kmpl (Totally run in city traffic) Good - Looks, performance, handling, comfort, safety. Bad - No rear disc brake. No kick. I purchased my brand new avenger 150 street in 1st jan 2016 and till date I already clocked It around 5500 km done total running in Kanpur city Only. Exterior Aggressive front look and cool side look although rear tyre is small but decent could use a day light running lamp. Engine Performance: 14 PS power is good you can feel it when you accelerate it easily takes pick up (Not great as Apache, Gixxer) but even after you have reached triple speed figure effortless easy to drive in traffic and fun to cruise on highway. I tested the top speed of my avenger 150 twice on highway. at first it clock 112 km/hr and after second service it clocks at 115 km/hr. Fuel Economy: This is the best feature of this bike. and the only reason to submit my review also. before 1st service I got an average of around 35 kmpl in city. after 1st service mileage increased to 40-45 kmpl. But after 2nd service it reached to 55 kmpl in the hard city traffic. Guys believe me currently it giving me a healthy 55 kmpl mileage in a tight city traffic. I also tested mileage 3 times after 2nd service from reserve to reserve I take 100 rs fuel each time and my bike covered 78km, 81km, 80km on the three testing while the price of petrol in Kanpur is 65 Rs/ltr. Ride Quality & Handling: Ride Quality is very good you don't get tired even after long city driving. Handling is very good very reactive and cornering can be done with confidence. only the turning radius is too large compare to other. it creates some problem in city traffic. I bought the Avenger 150 model last week. The bike as a whole is absolutely fantastic. I found the short pick-up to be a bit less, but that's not what you are looking for in this bike, & in no way that is a disadvantage. Comfort level, top notch .. balance, top notch. Also, the problem with a big turning radius owing to much wider handle-bar for the Cruise model has been largely taken care of in the Street models. In short, if you want to go for speed, you have the Pulsars .. for everything else, you have the Avengers.

Honest review on Bajaj Avenger 220 Street(not cruise) as a college student and casual rider

All the processes around purchase were really smooth and quick. Received it the same day. I use it as a daily commuter for college and other daily stuff. Super comfortable. A little bit on the heavy side if you don't work out on your physical strength. For a cruiser, It has amazing pickup and speed compared to other cruisers in the similar segment and can actually compete with higher cc ones like Meteor, cb. Looks have stayed loyal to the original Bajaj Avenger except for some the new curves and better headlights. Compared to other cruisers barely any engine vibrations. First service was really smooth. Pros- much easier to maintain than other cruisers. Amazing comfort and ride quality. Pocket-friendly when it comes to maintenance and service expenses. Can easily provide mileage as good as the company guarantees if driven properly without unnecessary braking and constant or sudden heavy throttles. Can easily pick sixty kmph speed under six seconds(personal experience) and can reach a hundred kmph on third gear. One-twenty-five kmph is its max speed without red line(not suggested red lining it within first few months) Cons- Doesn't have dual disc brake or dual channel ABS(single channel ABS only) Terrible turning radius due to making it difficult for packed cities. Uncomfortable seat for pillion.(Would suggest changing its seat) Lacks LED Headlights and indicators. Ground clearance is really bad as it is more on the low-rider side.(Amazing for short people like me- im five'five) No reviewer,TPMS, Bluetooth connectivity or charging port is available. Superstock bike, not for someone looking for a bike with a lot of techs tho i hope they provide new tech with their upcoming Avenger 400.

I recommend buying this bike for a daily commute and travel this bike has the best grip and best experience and comfortable and strong bike this bike has 5 gear box speeds that are awesome this bike has awesome mileage. And the look is very dashing I love this bike and thanks to my father for gifting me this bike

I bought this bike for smooth driving exp and long rides but all my dreams were shattered for the following reasons: 1. Mileage is barely 24kmpl as against claim by company for 40kmpl 2. The bike won't start unless a choke is used if you don't start it daily 3. The petrol circulation is not effective immediately upon start so unless the bike is given start for 2 mins it won't move smoothly. 4. The bike overheats in traffic or long drives and you can smell the burning parts 5. Resale value is 30% of the purchased value even if it's driven less than 10000 km and is 4 years old. 6. Difficult to navigate in traffic jams 7. Used cheap quality headlamps, buttons, etc. 8. Uncomfortable riding position for long drives 9. Rear brake jams in rainy season 10. Doesnt start in winter and rainy

Keep checking for air pressure as nothing is noticed till the tyre gets flat

Hello riders, I owned this bike since 2019. 1 Buying experience is very good. The showroom provided me with all the details. 2 It is a good cruiser bike you can have. Smooth riding. 3 Mileage is also decent in this segment. No kick but not required even. 4 Service and maintenance are okay. 5 Pros: Indian made cruiser bike, with old schoolboy features. cons: the back seat, sometimes feels skiddy.
