This itinerary offers an iconic Tanzania Safari and Mauritius beach honeymoon or holiday.

This itinerary is perfect for those on honeymoon or for those looking for an uncompromising safari staying in some of the finest safari accommodation in each of the three locations.

This safari is initially a privately driven and guided overland 4x4 safari visiting Lake Manyara National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater.

From here fly up to the more exclusive Northern Serengeti for three nights of safari in the Mara Triangle region.

This area is at its very best between the months of August and October because of the Wildebeest Migration, but it can be visited all year round (although April and May can be very wet!).

From here, fly on to Mauritius, which offers some of the best beaches in the Indian Ocean and the perfect location for a romantic beach holiday or honeymoon.

A combination of a Tanzania safari and beach holiday in Mauritius is a great alternative to other more traditional safari and beach holiday combinations such as South Africa and Mauritius or Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Day 1: Fly UK to Arusha

Overnight flight from UK to Kilimanjaro.

Day 2: Arusha

Arrive Kilimanjaro and transfer to Arusha. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Overnight Arusha. Breakfast & Dinner included.

Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park

Depart after breakfast for Lake Manyara National Park and spend 3-5 hours in the park before continuing up the Great African Rift Escarpment to Escarpment Lodge which enjoys some incredible views from it’s deck looking out over the African bush.

Overnight Ngorongoro. All meals included.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater

After an early breakfast depart for the Ngorongoro Crater for a full day safari in the Crater floor.

The Ngorongoro Crater permit is valid for a maximum 6 hours which is enough time to traverse the spectacular crater floor.

Enjoy a picnic lunch in the Crater, or have lunch instead at the famous and award winning Crater Lodge and relax and take in the sweeping crater views.

Overnight at Crater Lodge. All meals included.

Day 5: The Mara Triangle – North Serengeti National Park

Take a short scenic flight to Kogantende airstrip in the far northern region of the Serengeti, in an area called the Mara Triangle which is famous for Wildebeest and river crossings during the peak months of the Migration season.

Enjoy three nights at either the amazing Lamai Serengeti, Serengeti Safari Camp or Lemala Kuria Hills with daily game drives included.

Both lodges are incredibly beautiful, with Lamai being that little bit more authentic, whereas Kuria Hills is pure luxury with modern twists and plunge pools in the rooms.

Days 6 - 7: The Mara Triangle – North Serengeti National Park

Spend two days exploring the immediate valleys, plains and hills of this beautiful area of the Sernegeti.

With a 3 night stay, witnessing a spectacular river crossing is highly likely, although it can take patience whilst the wilderbeast and zebra pluck up the courage to cross.

Day 8: Fly Serengeti - Mauritius

After a short early morning game drive, tranfser to Kogatende Airstrip for the flight on to Mauritius via Nairobi.

On arrival in Mauritius, transfer to your chosen hotel.

Days 9 - 13: Mauritius

Spend the days relaxing in your chosen resort in Mauritius.

The Ngorongoro Crater is without doubt one of the most spectacular natural attractions in Africa and one of the continents best game viewing destinations.

The Ngorongoro Crater is part of the Ngorongoro Conservation area, which also includes the surrounding Ngorongoro Highlands as well as part of the southern Serengeti.

The Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact collapsed volcanic caldera in the world and acts as a self-contained eco-system rich in game, attracted by the mineral rich grasses and permanent water sources.

A night or two in one of the lodges on the crater rim is an unforgettable way of experiencing Ngorongoro.

Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti is hailed by many as the best safari holiday destination in Africa.

A Serengeti safari offers a chance above all to see the spectacular wildebeest migration as well as outstanding game viewing including the Big 5.

'Serengeti' means 'endless plains' in Maasai and the landscape is vast and beautiful with wide open plains dissected by some notable rivers and dotted with dramatic granite kopjes.

Safari Camps in the Serengeti range from old style traditional luxury mobile safari camps to permanent safari camps.

A Serengeti safari needs to be planned carefully according to the migration season and the style of safari to suit.

• Lemala Kuria Hills

Located in the Northern Serengeti, in the Wogakurya Hills, close to the Mara River and within the main corridor of the world-famous wildebeest migration, Lemala Kuria Hills offers luxury and style in each of its permanent 10 glass-fronted tents.

Large boulders and kopjes form the prominent features of the site and each guest tent has been carefully positioned amongst these to ensure privacy and spectacular vistas of the gentle grassed slopes, open woodland and tree lined watercourses, which all make up the scenic north Serengeti landscape. 

Each tent is a very spacious 70 sq. m. with contemporary designs and featuring super-king or large twin beds, sitting and dressing areas, indoor/outdoor showers, baths, twin basins, and outside decks with a plunge pools and deckchairs.

A separate tent in the wild forms the Melengali Spa where you can indulge in massages and manicures in a peaceful, natural setting.

There are several dining options in camp or out in the bush with a choice of freshly cooked starters, entrees, puddings and house drinks. Tea is served in the afternoon before game drives and cocktails at sunset on one of the kopjes overlooking the Isuria escarpment.

Whether here for the migration between June and November or for privacy and seclusion at other times of the year, Lemala Kuria Hills is a place of incredible luxury and beauty.

What’s so Special?

Magnificent kopjes dominate the public areas, with superb views from the bar, sitting and dining areas, swimming pool and the decks.

The camp has been built using recycled steel, glass, sustainable timbers, composite decking and canvas which, when combined with use of solar power throughout the camp, ensures the lightest footprint for a permanent camp in the Serengeti.

• Lamai Serengeti

Lamai Serengeti sits tucked amongst the rocks of Kogakuria Kopje with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, just a few miles from where the wildebeest cross the Mara River in the northern Serengeti. 

For roughly a quarter of the year, between late July and October, this is where the migration is happening - right here, on the doorstep of Lamai Serengeti.

Each of Lamai Serengeti’s rooms is designed to fit around the complex geometry of the kopje and to make the most of this sensational location, its views and its natural space and light. Views from the verandas are outstanding.

Lamai Serengeti has just 12 very spacious and comfortable rooms, split between two entirely separate lodges, the Main Lodge of 8 rooms and a smaller Private Lodge with just 4 rooms.

The location is perfect for viewing river crossings on the Mara River during the migration. A stay of 2 or 3 nights offers a very high chance of seeing river crossings in season.

Not only that but the location amongst the Kopjes means lions are very frequently spotted, and the terrain is ideal leopard country.

Unlike the southern plains of the Serengeti that dry out, forcing all but the hardiest of species to leave, this area remains lush and green.

Although a stay at Lamai Serengeti can be the Mara River crossings, there is much else here besides, including spectacular game viewing in a stunning landscape.

14 Days Africa Safari exploring Kenya, Tanzania before flying to Mauritius.

Upon arrival Nairobi, spend the 1 night before flying out to Masai Mara. Stay at Mara Engai Wilderness Lodge for 3 nights.

After breakfast, with picnic lunch depart for a full day game drive. The Serengeti is the setting for one of the world’s great natural spectacles: the Great Migration of herds of over a million wildebeest as well as zebras, eland, and gazelle that make these migratory movements between July and September, as well as the return back in October through November. The tenuous crossing of these undulates gives way to the moment where one is dramatically pulled down by a crocodile and thrashes in the Mara River. Dinner & Overnight– Serengeti Safari Lodge (FB)

Day 6: Serengeti  to Ngorongoro Area

Day 7: Full Day Ngorongoro Crater Tour

After breakfast, The world’s largest caldera, the Ngorongoro Crater is located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The destination was established as a multiple land use area in 1959 so that wildlife and nomadic Maasai could coexist. The park is home to over a million wildebeest that pass through during the annual migration, as well as other wildlife like zebra, gazelles, and lions.  In the late afternoon, transfer to Karatu for dinner and overnight at  Farm of Dreams  Lodge.

Day 8: Karatu to Nairobi – overnight

After breakfast, depart for Nairobi where you will be dropped off at your hotel for the night, in readiness for the flight the following morning to Mauritius. Lunch enroute or at Arusha.  You arrive Nairobi in the late afternoon.  Transfer to hotel  – Tamarind Tree Hotel .

Day 9: Flight from Nairobi to Mauritius

This morning, you transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport arriving in time to check in for your scheduled flight to Mauritius.  On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the magnificent 20 Degres Sud Boutique Hotel where you spend the next 4 nights.

Days 10 to 13:  Mauritius

Hôtel 20° SUD offers intimate luxury accommodation along a private beach at the mouth of Grand Baie. The elegant suites and rooms all come with a terrace and views of the sea or garden as well as en suite bathrooms with a bath. The suites also feature a private plunge pool or a spa bath.

Day 14: Departure

On the last day in Mauritius, transfer from hotel to the airport for flight back home.

How to get to Mauritius

Most visitors arrive in Mauritius by plane at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (SSR) International Airport in the southeast, which now has a slick new terminal building. Air Mauritius runs daily flights onwards to Sir Gaetan Duval Airport on Rodrigues and there are several flights to Mauritius.

Passport, Visa, and Entry requirements for Mauritius

You don’t need a visa to enter Mauritius. On arrival, your passport will be stamped allowing entry to the country for 60 days. You’ll need to be able to provide evidence of onward or return travel. If you intend to work in Mauritius, you must get a work permit before you travel.

The health sector of Mauritius

Mauritius has a well-developed health system. Mauritius’ healthcare infrastructure includes five major public hospitals, six specialized public hospitals, 18 private multi-specialty clinics, 11 private specialized clinics, and 28 medical laboratories. There are more than 4,500 beds in both public and private hospitals. But this may not cover foreign travelers so ensure you purchase travel and medical insurance before traveling to Mauritius.

Malaria and Yellow fever vaccination for  Mauritius

No yellow fever vaccination certificate required for travelers traveling to Mauritania but ensure you check for updated information before traveling and the last indigenous case of malaria was found in 1968 and the rest were mostly imported cases. Consequently, Mauritius was officially declared free from malaria by the WHO. However, the malaria mosquito (Anopheles Gambiae) was not eradicated. Traveling with Anti-malarial may be important.

The preferred currency for Mauritius is our local money: namely the  Mauritania rupee’ . Which many service providers may prefer the local currency so ensure you exchange money before traveling out of the main city for tips and payments though some lodges may accept credit cards.

Being both an English-speaking and French-speaking nation, Mauritius is a member of both the Commonwealth of Nations and La Francophonie. Mauritian Creole, which is spoken by an estimated 90% of the population, is considered to be the native language of the country and is used most often in informal settings.

The  best time to visit Mauritius is from May to December when the weather is cool, dry, and sunny. Expect some of Africa’s  best beaches, fresh seafood, and long, sun-drenched days on a  Mauritius  holiday. The island has a classic tropical climate with warm weather year-round.

Mauritius has a laid-back island vibe, so light clothing, bikinis, summer dresses, shorts, and flip flops are perfect. Some resorts and hotels in Mauritius require smart casual clothing after 6 pm at certain restaurants, so bear that in mind when packing.

Car hire and driving in   Mauritius

Cars drive on the left-hand side whilst priority is for vehicles coming from the right. Mauritius has only one highway. The highway starts from the airport situated in the South East of the Island and ends in the North of the Island at Grand Baie. And yes self-drive is safe but we recommend hiring a local driver along for the best experience.

Accommodation in Mauritius

Mauritius has several lodges available for tourists to enjoy and it shouldn’t be a problem looking for where to stay in Mauritius however between June to October an advance booking may be required for the best beach properties.

Local food of  Mauritius

The national dish of Mauritius that locals and travelers alike go gaga over. Dholl puri is a yellow split-pea pancake that is griddled on a Tawa and filled with cari gros pois (bean curry ) and Mauritius’ famous Rougaille (a spicy sauce of sweet tomatoes, thyme, garlic, and ginger).

Tipping while Travelling in Mauritius

Tipping is not common in Mauritius and tips are generally included in the bill at most restaurants. Most travelers still choose to tip, which is welcome. While traveling by taxi, it is common to simply round off the price.

Lush, warm and scenically spectacular, Mauritius has long been a premier photographic and holiday destination . This mountainous Indian Ocean island paradise offers visitors amazing weather all year round, stunning white beaches, and wonderful tranquillity.

Its tropical climate supports a rich and unique ecosystem with a wide array of flora and fauna. For instance, the island’s floral landscape consists of more than 600 plant species which includes a staggering 160 orchid species! Mauritius is also great for swimming, hiking, snorkelling, diving, dolphin encounters, cruises, quad biking, whale watching, kayaking, and so much more.

All these factors make Mauritius not just a marvelous holiday destination , but also a superb destination for photographic safaris . Here are just ten of Mauritius’s must-see places that photographers will revel in!

1. Black River Gorges National Park

Black River Gorges National Park is a vast 6,574-hectare paradise for nature enthusiasts, hikers and photographers alike. It features most of the island’s remaining indigenous rainforest. The park is a designated protected bird habitat. The park’s extensive network of hiking trails includes no fewer than 13 waterfall trails!

Its wildlife includes endangered species like pink pigeons, cuckoo-shrikes, echo parakeets, the Mauritian kestrel, and Mauritian flying foxes. Introduced species include rusa deer, lemurs, wild pigs and macaque monkeys. 2. Casela Nature Reserve

Casela ‘World of Adventures’ is a bustling 250-hectare leisure and entertainment park in Cascavelle. It’s situated against the scenic backdrop of Rempart Mountain and is well-forested with its own waterfall, canyon and animal enclosures.

It’s located about one kilometre from the charming town of Curepipe. Curepipe is well-worth a visit in itself with colonial architecture, a stunning botanical garden, museum and shops. Trou aux Cerfs provides excellent opportunities for relaxing, photography, hiking and jogging. It offers majestic views of the Trois Mamelles, Rempart and the Moka mountains that surround bustling Port Louis, the island’s capital.

4. Le Morne Brabant Mountain

Le Morne Brabant Mountain is a basalt mountain that towers 556 m/ 1,824 ft above sea level. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its dramatic cliffs, and is much sought-after for hiking, birdwatching and photography. The views from the top are utterly breathtaking!

The mountain holds great cultural and historical significance for Mauritians as it served as a refuge for escaped slaves in colonial times. There are many caves, steep slopes and overhangs at the summit which covers more than 30 acres/12 hectares. Two rare and endangered plants, the mandrinette (Hibiscus fragilis) and the Boucle d’Oreille (Trochetia boutoniana), Mauritius’ national flower, both occur here.

5. Flic en Flac Beach

Flic en Flac Beach is a very popular holiday spot on Mauritius, and has become a bustling hub of restaurants, clubs, bars, shops, hotels, rental apartments and resorts. The 8 km/5 mi stretch of white sand beach is one of the most spectacular on the island. It’s a great spot for photography with its crystal-clear water and beautiful white sand.

Flic en Flac is ideal for picnics under the casuarina trees or just lazing away your days. Alternatively, snorkelling, parasailing, water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and deep-sea fishing are all on offer. Flic en Flac offers great scuba diving off fantastic reef, wreck and drift sites, while kiddies can do banana and paddle boating. And you’re almost certain to see dolphins!

6. Grand Baie

Chamarel is also known for its equitable climate, parks, nature reserves, and a spectacular 95 m/ 312 ft waterfall, (where some brave souls can even abseil!). Other attractions include horse riding, a rum distillery, a quirky museum and the 50-hectare Ebony Forest Reserve that is a paradise for wildlife lovers, hikers and photographers. Photo safaris, birding excursions and guided drives are on offer.

9. Île aux Cerfs

Spectacular and pristine, Île aux Cerfs is a picturesque private island located off the east coast of Mauritius. It’s renowned for its gorgeous white beaches and crystal-clear blue waters. It’s also known for its superb restaurants and is a popular destination for day trips. Its superb 18-hole golf course was designed by Masters’s champion, Bernhard Langer.

NYATI Safari Lodge

På NYATI Safari Lodge får du dit livs safarioplevelse. Her kan du bo i din egen eksklusive River Bungalow på første række til Sydafrikas berømte Kruger National Park med panoramaudsigt over Olifants River - Elefantfloden - og den sydafrikanske bush. Fra din private terrasse vil du hver dag kunne følge det rige dyreliv langs floden. Rejser I flere sammen, kan I vælge at bo i vores nye Rhino luksustelte på 75 m 2 med plads til 2 voksne og 2 børn, i vores luksuriøse private Olifant villa suiter på 200 m 2 med egen pool og plads til hele familien eller i jeres helt egen private Cheetah Camp på 500 m 2 med privat chauffør/ranger, eget safariprogram og egen kok.

Opholdet på NYATI Safari Lodge er alt inklusiv, det vil sige komplet safariprogram samt alle måltider og lokale drikkevarer er inkluderet, også på turene. Vores store safariprogram omfatter 2 daglige safariture (game drives) i åbne biler, bushvandringer, sundowners og natsafari, som du frit kan deltage i. Imellem aktiviteterne vil der være tid til fx at slappe af i lodgens store pool-, lounge- og barområde, til forkælelse i NYATIs Bush Spa eller til et par tilvalgsaktiviteter som fx luftballon, flodsafari og golf. 

Maden på NYATI Safari Lodge er et højdepunkt i sig selv. På ægte Karen Blixen-manér serveres kulinariske menuer i stearinlysenes skær ved smukt dækkede borde eller i ”bomaen”, den traditionelle afrikanske grillplads. En gang om ugen rykker vi ud i bushen, hvor du kan nyde solnedgangen med kolde drinks, mens vi dækker op til sydafrikansk ”braii” under stjernehimlen. Nyd en uges afslapning i det ultimative strandparadis Mauritius – ferieøen i Det Indiske Ocean lidt syd for Ækvator. Her finder du kridhvide strande, turkisblåt hav og hoteller, hvor intet er overladt til fantasien. Øens historie har skabt et multietnisk samfund, der giver kulturliv og gastronomi ekstra farver og dimensioner. Menukortene tilbyder eksotiske og raffinerede oplevelser med strejf af både det afrikanske, europæiske, kinesiske, kreolske og indiske køkken. Farverige fisk, smukke koralformationer og krystalklart vand byder dig velkommen i en forunderlig og fantastisk verden under oceanets overflade.

Følg med på safari i den statslige del af Kruger National Park. Den nu over 100 år gamle park er med sin store variation af dyr og natur en af verdens bedste safariparker og er ganske enkelt et af de allerbedste steder at se de vilde dyr i deres naturlige miljø. Den offentlige del af Krugerparken er omkring 2/3 af Jyllands størrelse. Parken er 350 km lang og ca. 65 km bred. Vejene gennem nationalparken er gode, og mange dyr er efterhånden så vant til selskab af de underlige firhjulede væsener, så du kan komme tæt på dem. Her er ikke færre end 147 dyrearter, 507 fugle, 34 amfibier, 116 krybdyr, 1980 plante- og træarter og rigtigt gode chancer for at opleve ”The Big 5”, som er løven, leoparden, elefanten, næsehornet og bøflen.

Der er afgang tidligt om morgenen, og du spiser morgenmad i det fri, mens solen glider op over horisonten og blænder op for det mageløse landskab. Under vejs spiser vi frokost i en af parkens indhegnede camps.

NB. Turen er inkluderet på rejser til og med 30. august 2024. Derefter er det en tilvalgstur.

Om aftenen venter der en traditionel afrikansk braai under åben himmel i den åbne grillplads, bomaen.

I den tidlige morgen kører vi ud på endnu en safari på NYATI’s egne jorde. Dermed er der endnu en chance for at opleve Big 5.

Når vi er tilbage på Nyati Safari Lodge serveres morgenmad.

Fredag frister vi dig også med en sidste solnedgangssafari, hvor vi gør holdt ved vores smukke udsigtspunkt Elephant Hill. Her kan du nyde en forfriskning til solnedgangen over Olifants River og Hippo-søen. Det er en magisk oplevelse at tage afsked med den sydafrikanske bush en sidste gang. Herefter er der afskedsmiddag ved smukt dækkede borde på den overdækkede terrasse med udsigt til Olifants River

Dette er dagen, hvor du skal rejse videre til Mauritius. Efter morgenmaden bliver du kørt til den lokale lufthavn, og herfra går turen videre med indenrigsfly til Johannesburg. I Johannesburg har du en overnatning på lufthavnshotel inkl. morgenbuffet, og næste morgen flyver du videre til Mauritius (på en ca. 4 timers flyvetur).

Tidligt søndag morgen flyver du fra Johannesburg med kurs mod Mauritius, hvor du lander tidlig eftermiddag. I lufthavnen venter vores lokale repræsentant, som kører dig til det hotel, du har valgt.

Hvis du har brug for afslapning og forkælelse er du kommet til det rigtige sted! Mauritius er det ultimative strandparadis med nogle af de bedste strande i hele verden. Du kan også benytte hotellernes faciliteter og gå på opdagelse blandt de mange tilvalgsaktiviteter (ikke inkluderet), hvor du kan vælge mellem aktiviteter både til lands og til vands. Du kan trygt færdes overalt på øen både om dagen og om aftenen.

Der er afgang først på eftermiddagen, så du i ro og mag kan sige farvel – eller måske på gensyn – til Mauritius´ paradis. Du bliver hentet på dit hotel og transporteret til lufthavnen, hvorfra turen går hjemover igen med en enkelt mellemlanding undervejs.

Du tilbringer igen natten med at flyve, så du kan sove på turen. Der serveres både aftensmad og morgenmad om bord på flyet, og du har en enkelt mellemlanding undervejs, før du lander i Danmark ca. midt på dagen.

Bemærk venligst at ugedagene for de enkelte aktiviteter på Nyati Safari Lodge kan variere grundet vejrforhold.

Det er f.eks. vanskeligt at opleve den smukke afrikanske stjernehimmel i overskyet vejr. Så flyttes aktiviteten til en aften det passer bedre.

Tilvalgsaktiviteter på NYATI Safari Lodge

Der er afgang til den inddæmmede del af Olifants Floden, med ankomst ca. midt på dagen.

Her begynder en vidunderlig sejltur i roligt tempo på en lille flodpram gennem Krugerparken. Langs bredderne vil du opleve nogle af de mange dyrearter, der trives ved floden. Vand er et naturligt trækplaster for dyr, så her ses et væld af fugle og masser af både små og store dyr, der slukker tørsten, mens du kan se dovne flodheste og lurende krokodiller i vandet. Her serveres frokost om bord på båden, hvor du kan sidde og nyde bushens lyde og den smukke udsigt til det vilde dyreliv.

Efter bådturen venter endnu et safarieventyr. Du bliver hentet i en af NYATI´s åbne safaribiler, og kommer på en stemningsfuld solnedgangssafari gennem Greater Kruger National Park med god mulighed for at se "Big 5". Safarioplevelserne rundes af på et af NYATI´s smukke sundowner-spots, hvor du kan nyde solnedgangen over den sydafrikanske bush til kølige drinks og lidt snacks, inden turen går tilbage til lodgen.

Sydafrikanerne gør meget for at beskytte og bevare den vilde dyrebestand, og Moholoholo Rehabiliteringscenter er kendt verden over som en af pionererne indenfor bevarelse af truede dyrearter.

Her vil du opleve, hvor meget der gøres for rehabilitering og genudsættelse af truede, forældreløse og skadede vilde dyr.

De dyr der har været for skadede til genudsætning, lever på Moholoholo centerets område, ligesom centeret forsker i dyreadfærd, med specielt fokus på gribbe, idet ganske mange af denne art bringes til centeret med tegn på forgiftning. Ydermere forskes i leopardernes territorielle vandringsmønster, og udstyres i visse tilfælde med et GPS halsbånd.

Den lette vandretur rundt på centeret tager ca. 1,5 time, og her vil du opleve, hvor meget der gøres for at beskytte det sydafrikanske dyreliv. Der vil være rig mulighed for at tage billeder undervejs, ligesom vi anbefaler du kigger ind i butikken.

Centerets formål er at øge opmærksomheden overfor de miljømæssige ændringer, ikke blot i Sydafrika men overalt i verden. Minimum 4 deltagere.

At svæve lydløst hen over landskabet er en magisk oplevelse. Jeres luftballon afgår ved solopgang og du flyver hen, hvor vinden bærer dig, f.eks. hen over Blyde River, mango plantager og tyndt befolkede områder med udsigt til Drakensbjergene og den sydafrikanske bush. Mousserende vin og snacks vil blive serveret efter turen, og tilbage på lodgen venter jer en stor morgenmad.

Der bliver arrangeret ture om morgenen, når den lokale ballonskipper vurderer, at det er ”ballon vejr”, og det vides oftest først aftenen i forvejen, da aktiviteten er stærkt vejr afhængig. Minimum 4 deltagere.

En fantastisk og anderledes form for safari, hvor naturen og de vilde dyr sætter agendaen. Oplev den sydafrikanske bush væk fra alfarvej på quadbike, på dansk også kaldet “ATV”, som er en firehjulet motorcykel særligt egnet til offroad kørsel.

En sjov aktivitet for familien og for alle der ønsker at gribe endnu en chance for at komme tæt på den vilde natur og få pulsen lidt op.

Gæster køres ca. et kvarter op i terrænet, hvorfra turene tager deres udgangspunkt under ledelse af en lokal guide. Turene afgår om morgenen efter morgenmaden og sen eftermiddag og varer ca. 1,5 time (2 timer inkl. transfer til og fra lodgen).

Sydafrika er et land med store kontraster. På den ene side et moderne land med velfungerende økonomi og infrastruktur – og på den anden side det oprindelige og autentiske Afrika. En rigtig god måde at få indblik i den lokale kultur og tradition er et besøg i en lokal landsby, et såkaldt township.

Hvis det ikke er skoleferie/fridag, ser du byens skole for de helt små børn, du kommer hjem til en lokal familie, og du besøger byens heksedoktor. Der er mulighed for at smage lokale specialiteter på turen. Tilbage på NYATI Safari Lodge venter frokosten. Minimum 4 deltagere.

Der er afgang fra lodgen tidlig morgen mod de storslåede Drakensbjerge, og forude venter en hel dag med eventyrlige naturoplevelser. Turen til Drakensbjergene følger den berømte Panoramarute langs den 60 km lange Blyde River Canyon - også kendt som Sydafrikas Grand Canyon. Drakensbjergene er godt 2.000 meter høje og ligger i naboprovinsen Mpumalanga. På vejen gøres holdt ved flere udsigtspunkter, så du har optimale muligheder for at nyde magien her. Ruten går langs eukalyptus- og nåletræsbeklædte bjergskråninger, hvor masser af brusende vandfald har deres udspring. Du besøger tre af de største seværdigheder i Sydafrika: Bourke’s Luck Potholes med de dybe kløfter, der får dig til at snappe efter vejret og hæve kameraet. The Three Rondavels, som er tre runde bjergtoppe, der ligner en kæmpeudgave af de traditionelle, runde, stråtækte afrikanske hytter beliggende på kanten af turens højdepunkt Blyde River Canyon, hvor der er stop ved Gods Window. Der er også et stop ved Lisbon vandfaldet. Undervejs på turen får vi en rustik original sydafrikansk frokost. Du er tilbage på lodgen sidst på eftermiddagen.

Tag på safari i den offentlige del af Kruger National Park. Den nu over 100 år gamle park er med sin store variation af dyr og natur en af verdens bedste safariparker og er ganske enkelt et af de allerbedste steder at se de vilde dyr i deres naturlige miljø. Den offentlige del af Krugerparken er omkring 2/3 af Jyllands størrelse. Parken er 350 km lang og ca. 65 km bred. Vejene gennem nationalparken er gode, og mange dyr er efterhånden så vant til selskab af de underlige firhjulede væsener, så du kan komme tæt på dem. Her er ikke færre end 147 dyrearter, 507 fugle, 34 amfibier, 116 krybdyr, 1980 plante- og træarter og rigtigt gode chancer for at opleve ”The Big 5”, som er løven, leoparden, elefanten, næsehornet og bøflen.

I hovedstaden Port Louis mødes gammelt og nyt. Smukke, gamle bygninger fra kolonitiden, monumenter og helligdomme er en stærk kontrast til skyskrabere, det moderne Caudan Waterfront indkøbscenter og det pulserende forretningscentrum. Her kan du for alvor gå på indkøb – også i de farverige, lokale basarer.

Du ser historie- og kunstmuseet The Blue Penny, og efter den hektiske storby runder vi af med et afslappende besøg i The Royal Botanical Gardens of Pamplemousse, som er kendt for de enorme åkander og den særprægede Talipot-palme, der kun blomster én gang i løbet af 100 år.

Den klassiske ørundtur, hvor du for alvor oplever Mauritius. Vi kører først op på det store plateau, hvor øens industri- og handelsområde ligger. Herefter kan du shoppe i øens næststørste by Curepipe og nabobyen Floréal, der frister med duty-free fabriksudsalg af cashmere-strik, guldsmykker, tæpper og konfektionssyet tøj. Du ser den lille modelskibsfabrik i Curepipe, hvor de manuelt bygger meget smukke og imponerende skibsmodeller. På den udslukte vulkan Trou Aux Cerfs kan du fra 650 meters højde kigge ned i det grønne krater, ud over den bjergtagende Moka-bjergkæde og på en klar dag helt ud til havet.

Herfra kører du til Grand Bassin, hvor den hellige sø og Hindu-templet giver et strejf af Østens mystik, og resten af turen byder på magiske naturfænomener. Vi kører en smuk tur gennem den regnskovsklædte Black River Gorge National Park med brusende vandfald og en sjælden flora og fauna. Turen slutter med Chamarels bløde bakker, som er farvet brune, gyldne, røde og lilla af vulkansk aske.

National Botanical Garden of Mauritius er nok en af de mest populære seværdigheder på Mauritius. Gå ikke glip af de famøse kæmpe åkander og de gigantiske baobabtræer her. Der er desuden over 650 plantearter, herunder oprindelige tropiske krydder- og lægeurter og intet mindre end 85 varianter af palmer, som er bragt hertil fra alle verdenshjørner.

Efter dette besøg går turen til sukkerfabrikken “L’Aventure du Sucre”, som i dag er et spændende museum fuld af overraskelser, hvor du får et fint indblik i sukkerproduktionens betydning for Mauritius over tid. Der vil blive serveret en traditionel frokost hos en familie i Moka, før turen går til et af de ældste kolonitidshuse på øen, ”Eureka”. Efter en rundtur i huset og i de smukke omgivelser serveres der eftermiddagste og kaffe her.

Oplev en over 125 år gammel maniok kiksefabrik i hjertet af den lille provins Mahebourg. Her holdes det gamle håndværk i hævd. Fortsæt til Pointe d’Esny hvorfra der sejles til Ile aux Aigrettes, som er et af de eneste steder, man har formået at bevare den oprindelige ibenholtskov og en række oprindelige plante-og dyrearter.

Slut dagen af med at besøge det uspolerede naturreservat La Vanille Reserve des Mascareignes, som er hjemsted for kæmpe skildpadder, krokodiller og en imponerede samling sommerfugle, insekter og krybdyr.

Hvis du drømmer om at rejse under havet på ægte Jules Verne-maner, er her en enestående mulighed. Kom på et ægte undervands-safarieventyr i undervandsbåd (i ca. 1 time) og oplev det fantastiske miljø i 30 meters dybde, som byder på farverige koraller, eksotiske fisk og det spændende vrag ”Star Hope”.

Komforten ombord er fin, der er aircondition og sikkerheden er i top. Sikkerhedscertifikater udstedes årligt af internationale kontrolorganisationer så som Bureau Veritas. Alt kan ske på Mauritius, selv gåture på havets bund! Med det unikke Aqua+ Scuba udstyr kan næsten alle komme ud at gå under vandet, både voksne, børn over 7 år og selv de, der ikke kan svømme.

Det unikke Aqua+ udstyr svarer til en plastikkugle, som man har om hovedet, så man nyder panoramaudsigten og kan trække vejret frit, mens man er i direkte kontakt med den unikke flora og fauna under havet. Turene foregår i grupper med 6 personer i fredelige vande i begrænset dybde, og man vil have mulighed for at fodre fisk undervejs, hvilket er en speciel oplevelse.

Mauritius har adopteret tekulturen fra Storbritannien. På denne tur får du både indblik i teproduktion og får set den sydlige del af øen, som har Mauritius' smukkeste natur. Du oplever svundne tiders pragt i to flotte kolonitidshuse, du får demonstreret teproduktion i museet Bois Cheri Tea Factory, og du kan smage forskellige tevarianter – naturligvis akkompagneret af scones og serveret på terrassen i en smuk, klassisk have.

Kom på opdagelsesrejse i Mauritius’ tropiske flora og fauna i naturparken ”Parc Aventure Chamarel”. Her er aktiviteter for alle aldre. Parken er på intet mindre end 12 hektar tropisk skov, som indbyder til trekking og hiking på alle niveauer. Besøgende kan fx vælge imellem den meget tilgængelige botaniske tur, eller det mere udfordrende ”adventure” hike, med flere tekniske udfordringer i form af fx hænge- og netbroer. Uanset hvad man vælger, byder dagen på spændende fysiske udfoldelser i smuk natur. Turen inkluderer frokost.

Varighed: 2½ time

Denne tropiske dyrepark tilbyder oplevelser for hele familien. Parken er hjem for 1500 fugle, løver, zebra, kæmpe skildpadder, aber, antiloper og mange flere dyr. Her er også et kæledyrsområde og en fiskedam, hvor børn kan få lov at komme helt tæt på dyrene. Man kan hike gennem den frodige tropiske natur eller opleve naturparken med quadbike, segway eller buggy. Aldersgrænsen for de motoriserede aktiviteter er 16 år. Børn under 18 skal ledsages af en voksen.

En dag på havet, hvor du kan nyde solen, havluften og udsigten til havets paradisverden er balsam for krop og sjæl. Besøg hotellets boathouse, som udover diverse vandsportsaktiviteter, tilbyder en lang række udflugter til tropiske småøer, koralrev, sandbanker og skønne badestrande. Du kan fx vælge en tur med glasbundsbåd, hvor du trygt kan betragte koraller og fisk, uden du behøver at blive våd.

Forkæl dig selv med en rolig sejlads, mens solen går ned over Det Indiske Ocean. Her om aftenen er solen ikke så dominerende, så du kan rigtig nyde den friske havluft. Du kan vælge mellem forskellige sejlture – fx hvor du får serveret champagne eller middag med både mad og drikke inkluderet.

På Mauritius kan du vælge mellem et hav af vandsportsaktiviteter. Måske er det her, du skal lære at windsurfe eller stå på vandski? Serengeti Nationalpark

På de fleste af vores rejser med safari i Tanzania & badeferie på Zanzibar kommer du forbi Serengeti Nationalpark. Serengeti er én af Tanzanias mest populære nationalparker, og det er fuldstændig forståeligt. De fleste bliver nemlig overvældet af mødet med Serengeti.

Her er flere dyr, end du kan forestille dig; gnuer, zebraer og Thomson’s gazeller udgør the Great Migration, Big Five-dyrene, giraffer, flodheste, vildsvin, strudse, hyæner, geparder, vilde hunde og mere end 500 forskellige fuglearter. I Serengeti skal du ikke lede efter dyrene – de er overalt.

Og så er der naturen i Serengeti. Bakker med tæt bevoksning, vandhuller, som omringes af dyr, der kommer for at drikke, kopjerne, som er de enlige stenformationer, der rejser sig op i landskaberne, og sletterne. De uendelige sletter, der fortsætter til der, hvor himlen starter.

Ngorongoro-krateret

Ngorongoro-krateret ligger i Ngorongoro Conservation Area og er verdens største caldera – kratergryde – der er opstået efter et vulkanudbrud for 2 millioner år siden.

Det vulkanske krater er mere end 260 km2 stort og 610 meter dybt, og det er svært at forestille sig, hvor stort og enestående det er, før man har prøvet at køre ned af kraterkanten mod de fuldstændigt unikke landskaber.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area er på UNESCOs verdensarvsliste. Området har nemlig stor betydning for beskyttelsen af verdens biodiversitet, bl.a. fordi der bor mange truede arter og, at området også danner ramme for den årlige migration af bl.a. gnuer og zebraer.

I selve Ngorongoro-krateret bor der mere end 25.000 vilde dyr, og du kan bl.a. opleve Big Five-dyrene,  gazeller, flamingoer, flodheste og mange flere. Du kan dog ikke opleve giraffer i selve krateret, da det er for stejlt for dem at komme herned.

Tarangire Nationalpark

Når vi taler om safari i Tanzania, er Tarangire Nationalpark slet ikke så besøgt som sin storebror, Serengeti, hvilket er en skam. Dels er Tarangire meget lettere tilgængelig, men det er også muligt at få nogle enestående safarioplevelser her.

Tarangire Nationalpark er synonym med elefanter og baobabtræer. Her lever det største antal elefanter i det nordlige Tanzania, og nationalparken bliver ofte illustreret med billeder af elefanter, der står under det smukke baobabtræ.

Tarangire-floden løber gennem parken og er med til at give liv til omgivelserne. I Tanzanias tørsæson, mellem juni og oktober, kan du bl.a. se et stort antal elefanter, der kommer til floden for at drikke vand. Selvom floden ser tør ud, er den det ikke, og elefanterne ved hvor de skal grave efter vand. Nationalparken huser derudover de klassiske safaridyr som flodheste, giraffer og løver. Og så er parken et paradis for fugleentusiaster med 550 fuglearter, du kan krydse af tjeklisten.

Lake Manyara Nationalpark

Lake Manyara Nationalpark, der ligger mellem Tarangire og Ngorongoro-krateret, under Great Rift Valleys vestlige skrænter, er med sine 330 km2 en af Tanzanias mindste nationalparker. Nationalparken er berømt for sin smukke sø, der fylder 230 km2 af nationalparken, og tiltrækker et enestående fugleliv med mere end 400 registrerede fuglearter.

Derudover kan du være stensikker på at møde en masse nysgerrige bavianer. Her findes nemlig en af de største koncentrationer af bavianer i verden. Lake Manyara huser desuden også flamingoer, elefanter, giraffer, bøfler, zebraer og antiloper.

Nyerere Nationalpark

Nyerere Nationalpark er med sine godt 30.000 km2 Tanzanias største nationalpark. Nyerere er måske mere kendt under sit tidligere navn Selous Game Reserve. I 2019 blev Selous inddelt i fire dele, hvoraf den nordlige, vestlige og sydlige del blev til Nyerere og den østlige del beholdt sit originale navn.

Nationalparken ligger i det sydlige Tanzania, og hvis du før har været på safari i det nordlige Tanzania, vil du her få en meget anderledes naturoplevelse. Her er vild og varieret natur med åbne sletter, sumpområder, skove og floder. Fordi landskaberne er mere frodige og diverse, så kan det være mere udfordrende at spotte dyrene, end i eksempelvis Serengeti. Til gengæld får du nogle andre muligheder her, f.eks. kan du kombinere den traditionelle game drive, hvor du kører rundt for at spotte dyrene, med en flodsafari, som giver dig mulighed for at opleve nogle andre dyr på tæt hold.

Eksotiske Zanzibar er én af de ultimative badeferiedestinationer, hvor du kan nyde de kridhvide sandstrande, det azurblå hav og det varme, solrige klima.

Zanzibar ligger i Det Indiske Ocean tæt på Tanzanias fastland.

Faktisk består Zanzibar af to større øer, Unguja og Pemba, og en masse små. Når vi skriver om Zanzibar er det Unguja, vi mener, og det er også her, at du finder den historiske bydel, Stone Town.

Zanzibar er kendt for sine fantastiske strande, sit azurblå vand og sine enestående muligheder for slappe af, uanset om du starter eller slutter din rejse her. Men dit ophold på Zanzibar kan være lige så afslappende eller aktiv, som du ønsker det. Zanzibar byder nemlig også på mere kulturelle oplevelser, hvis du vil krydre dagene på langs med lidt oplevelser.

Oplev krydderiøen

Zanzibar er særligt kendt for sine mange, forskellige krydderier, der også har givet øen tilnavnet ”Krydderiøen”. Det er en oplevelse at besøge krydderiplantager, hvor du kan dufte, smage og ikke mindst lære om, hvordan krydderierne dyrkes og bruges.

Besøg Jozani Chwaka Bay Nationalpark

Du kan også besøge den smukke Jozani Chwaka Bay Nationalpark, Zanzibars eneste nationalpark. Nationalparken er særligt kendt for sin bestand af den røde colobusabe, som er endemisk for Zanzibar, men du kan også opleve galagoer, kamæleoner og antiloper.

Se de små landsbyer

Hvis du interesserer dig for den traditionelle livsstil på Zanzibar med fiskeri og landbrug, så er et besøg i nogle af Zanzibars små landsbyer helt oplagt.

I landsbyen Mchangani foregår livet i dag næsten som for hundred år siden, hvor kvinderne bruger tørrede palmeblade til at væve måtter og tagdækning. Og i landsbyen Nungwi, som ligger ved Zanzibars måske smukkeste strand, kan du se, hvordan håndværkere bygger de traditionelle dhows med simple værktøjer.

Udforsk Zanzibar under vandet

Zanzibar er et paradis for dig, der elsker at snorkle. Koralrevene omkring Zanzibar er nemlig hjemsted for en imponerende mangfoldighed af havdyr med 600 forskellige fiskearter og 50 forskellige typer af koraller. Tag på en tur ud og oplev Zanzibar under vandoverfladen, f.eks. ved Mnemba island – en lille ø nordøst for Zanzibar, som er kendt for sit koralrev og farverige fisk.

Kombiner din rejse med oplevelser i Stone Town

Zanzibars gamle by, Stone Town, er et enestående besøg. Det er Zanzibars kulturelle hjerte og har nærmest stået uforandret de sidste par hundrede år. Byen er på UNESCOs verdensarvsliste og rummer smalle snørklede gader, lokale markeder, arabiske pladser og smukke moskéer.

I 1800-tallet var Stone Town handelscentrum for flere folkeslag og i mere end 1.000 år har forskellige kulturer sat deres præg på byen, herunder den arabiske, europæiske, indiske og afrikanske. I dag er alle kulturer smeltet sammen til én i denne fascinerende by.

Hvornår er det bedste tidspunkt til safari i Tanzania og badeferie på Zanzibar?

De fleste af vores gæster anser tørsæsonerne for at være blandt de bedste tidspunkter at kombinere Tanzania og Zanzibar, det vil sige i januar og februar samt juni til oktober.

Det skyldes, at mange foretrækker tørt vejr, når de skal på safari og badeferie.

Der er dog også fordele ved at rejse uden for tørsæsonerne, f.eks. vil nogle perioder være billigere, der er færre andre besøgende og naturen er frodigere. Selvom du rejser i regnsæsonen, er det ikke sikkert, at du kommer til at opleve meget regn. Når det regner i Tanzania, kommer regnen typisk som massive byger, der kun varer nogle timer, hvorefter det klarer op igen.

Hvor skal jeg tage på safari i Tanzania?

Tanzania er én af verdens ultimative safaridestinationer, der rummer et utal af safariparker, der hver især fængsler sine besøgende med enestående oplevelser.

De fleste af vores rejser går til det nordlige Tanzania. Her finder du bl.a. Serengeti Nationalpark, Ngorongoro-krateret, Lake Manyara og Tarangire Nationalpark. I det sydlige Tanzania har vi rejser til Nyerere Nationalpark – tidligere kendt som Selous Game Reserve. Hvor du skal tage hen, afhænger helt af, hvad du ønsker at opleve.

På safari i Serengeti Nationalpark og Ngorongoro-krateret kan du eksempelvis opleve den store gnumigration. Ved Lake Manyara er der et enestående fugleliv. Nyere Nationalpark er Tanzanias største nationalpark og her er landskaberne helt anderledes vilde. Mange af vores gæster vælger rejser, der kombinerer besøg i flere forskellige parker for at få et bredere indblik i Tanzanias natur og dyreliv.

Hvor skal jeg bo på Zanzibar?

Zanzibar byder på enestående strande, uanset om du vælger at bo i nord, syd, øst eller vest.

The South African constitution outlaws discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, so it is considered extremely progressive. Cape Town is the official capital of South Africa but is unofficially known as the gay capital of Africa !  

The general attitude toward the LGBTQIA+ community is progressive in South Africa. Despite this, countries bordering South Africa are not so accepting and some even consider homosexuality a crime, so travelers should be wary of straying. 

Seychelles 

This East African country comprises 115 huddled islands. It also is one of the handful of destinations where homosexuality is legal (which was legalized in 2006). Holding hands at the beach or stealing kisses while out and about are accepted since the law is on the side of LGBTQIA+ community members. 

This country is a great place to express yourself freely and not worry about disapproving glances. Of course, sometimes the law does not reflect the culture, so it is important to be observant of instances when stigma or discrimination may impact travelers.

Protecting the environment reduces the risk of climate change, improves sustainability and preserves natural resources. These two countries are the front runners when it comes to conservation and wildlife tourism.  

Tanzania 

Tanzania has rich biodiversity and boasts 14,000 wildlife species. Safeguarding wildlife is a priority of this country and it shows in its respect for animals and nature. Almost a third of the country is protected, so natural habitats are inhabited by an array of species.

While tourism is still a part of Tanzanian culture, it is secondary to wildlife management and species conservation. How many athletes compete in the Olympics and more details by the numbers for the 2024 Paris Games

This year, athletes from 184 countries will take to the world stage to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics , which will unfold over a two-week period between July 26 and Aug. 11.

Together these athletes represent 206 National Olympic Committees , the organizational vehicle for countries at the Games.

Here's more about the athletes of the 2024 Paris Games, by the numbers.

How many total athletes usually compete in the Olympics?

The number of athletes fluctuates each year, and depends on whether it's they're competing in the Summer or Winter Games. The Olympic Winter Games typically have around 2,900 athletes from 80 national committees, according to Olympics.com , while the Summer Games tend to amass a larger crowd.

Over the years, the number of athletes in the summer games has steadily increased . Since the 1996 Atlanta Games, the number of participants has surpassed 10,000. That's a big jump from the 1924 Paris Olympics, when just over 3,000 people competed.

The Rio Olympics in 2016 holds the record for the most athletes at the Summer Games: 11,238.

How many total athletes are competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics?

Around 10,500 athletes are set to take part in the Paris Games, plus coaches and team officials.

These athletes compete not as countries , but as members of "National Olympic Committees." This year, there are 206 committees.

Russia and Belarus were banned from competing due to the ongoing war in Ukraine , but athletes from those countries will still compete as " Individual Neutral Athletes " under a neutral flag. 

Thirty-seven athletes will compete as part of the Refugee Olympic Team.

Which country has the most athletes competing in the Paris Games?

At 594 athletes, the United States will have the largest presence at the Olympics. Trailing the U.S. is France, with 572 athletes, and future Games host Australia, with 460 athletes.

On the opposite end of the scale, four countries – Belize, Liechtenstein, Nauru and Somalia – are sending just one athlete each to compete at the Olympics.

Which country has the most athletes per capita in the 2024 Olympics?

Among countries with populations exceeding 1 million, Slovenia ranked first. For countries with populations below 1 million, the Cook Islands came out on top.
