Chris Brown at the O2 review: shallow, inconsequential and just a bit queasy

chris brown tour 2023 review

“Ladies, happy Valentine’s Day,” smiled Chris Brown , ladling on the charm, before rather puncturing the romance of the moment by addressing the gents too: “if you don’t get some p**** at this concert…” Mind you, treating your partner to a V-Day trip to see an R&B star notorious for violently assaulting Rihanna in 2009 might generally be considered a courting faux pas offensive enough to make them spit out their Crunchy Frog.

That Brown returned to London for the first of four nights at the O2 as the third biggest R&B singer of the past decade (after Drake and Rihanna ) is arguably cancel culture’s greatest fail to date. But from the moment Brown descended on wires into a neon-heavy show seemingly set in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk Tiger Tiger, there was certainly a shallowness to proceedings.

Coming so hard on the heels of Rihanna’s medley of iconic hits at the Super Bowl, even Brown appeared to have realised that his music – an unimaginative parade of Autotuned, rap-flecked R&B, EDM rave pop, lascivious balladry and Michael Jackson pastiche – is comparatively inconsequential. Dancing with his sci-fi crew, impressively acrobatic and Jacko-esque as it was, always took precedence over singing; the backing track handled a good fifty per cent of the vocals, giving the set the air of a glorified public appearance.

chris brown tour 2023 review

And though Brown rattled through snippets and highlights of fifty tracks over two hours, the stand-outs often piggy-backed on more memorable samples such as Shanice’s I Love Your Smile (on the uplifting Undecided). And amongst the numerous major transatlantic hits – Run It!, Kiss Kiss, Go Crazy, the butter-wouldn’t-melt boyfriend ballad With You – none could be classed as historic. Like, say, Umbrella.

Brown did his best to shuffle his standard-issue R&B pop into definable chunks. A “history lesson” section presented early singles such as Poppin’ and Turn Up The Music in chronological order, while a segment dedicated largely to his latest album Breezy merged into an assortment of his most ‘80s-style R&B ballads. Although you couldn’t imagine Luther Vandross getting away with charmer lines like “I want you to scream, but not in a bad way” from Dream, or endless visuals of naked nymphs both Heavenly and Hellish, like a video diary of Dante’s tour of the afterlife if had only stopped off at the strip clubs.

As the dance troupe threw roses into the crowd during a quiz show section where crowd screams decided the next song, Brown clearly wanted to win London’s love, and 20,000 wholeheartedly succumbed. But we left unable to shake an earlier, creepier image of Brown inviting a “special girl” onstage for Take You Down, grinding in her lap and going in for a smooch while a circle of intimidating men closed in, none of whom appeared to be a qualified intimacy co-ordinator. Next year, best splash out on Paris.

R&B superstar returns to Las Vegas Strip on US tour

Chris Brown has just released his 11th studio album, “11:11,” and touring in support.

Chris Brown is shown at the Lovers & Friends music festival at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds o ...

The last time Chris Brown played Las Vegas was at Drai’s Nightclub, in lineup of Strip headliners during Super Bowl weekend.

Brown is back at a far larger scale this summer, playing T-Mobile Arena on Aug. 3. The show is in his “11:11 Tour,” with rising R&B artist Muni Long as special guest (tickets to the general public are on sale 10 a.m. Monday at AXS.com).

Brown has just released his 11th studio album, “11:11,” hence the tour’s title. The release has topped Billboard’s R&B charts, and his “Summer too Hot” was nominated this year for the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance. Coco Jones won the category with “ICU.” Long won that category in 2023 for “Hrs & Hrs.”

Brown’s “11:11 Tour” follows his 2023 “Under The Influence” tour of Europe, which reportedly sold out all 27 dates.

Brown has headlined Drai’s since June 2022, playing club favorites “Go Crazy,” “Iffy,” and “No Guidance.” But Brown is not on the Drai’s schedule. Club reps have not responded to requests specifying his status at the venue.

We have referred to the 34-year-old superstar as reliably controversial, undeniably talented. Brown made headlines off the stage this past May , when it was reported he and Usher were involved in an altercation at Floyd Mayweather’s Skate Rock City skating center on Boulder Highway.

The dispute, which centered on Brown’s conversation with artist Teyana Taylor , occurred the night before both superstars performed at the Lovers & Friends festival at Las Vegas Festival Grounds.

They did perform, separately and crushing it, unmarked with no sings of a physical altercation. During his set, Usher made what seemed a cryptic reference to the dust-up with Brown, with whom he has been friends for years, “We all go through some (stuff), but if you keep doing the same thing over and over, you’re the fool.”

Video posted by TMZ from the festival showed Brown in a shouting match with unidentified individuals backstage, during Missy Elliott’s set. Brown later said he was breaking up an argument, not the instigator.

Chris Brown Announces ‘Under the Influence Tour’

Brown will play across the uk and europe..

Chris Brown is heading to Europe next year. The R&B legend  has announced his headlining  Under the Influence Tour.

The 13-date tour kicks off Feb. 13, 2023, in Dublin. From there, Brown will play in London, Manchester, Paris and Berlin before concluding in Amsterdam on March 6, 2023.

Skillibeng will join Brown as a supporting act. Tickets go on sale Friday, Dec. 9.  According to Brown, “more dates might be added.”

Brown’s upcoming tour is named after his sleeper hit “Under the Influence,” which is No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at the time of publication. It’s also No. 1 at rhythmic radio in the U.S. and No. 1 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay chart. It’s Brown’s 13th chart-topper on that list.

The platinum-selling song is lifted from Brown’s 2019 album, Indigo (Extended) .

Brown released an official video for the bedroom banger in October, which has over 37 million views on YouTube.

Brown recently won Favorite Male R&B Artist at the 2022 American Music Awards and Best R&B/Soul Male Artist at the 2022 Soul Train Awards.

Brown was scheduled to perform “Under the Influence” and a Michael Jackson dance tribute to celebrate 40 years of Thriller   at the American Music Awards. However, he said that his performance was axed.

Subsequently, he shared a rehearsal video on Instagram of what the performance would have looked like.

“WOULDVE been the ama performance but they cancelled me for reasons unknown,” Brown wrote in the comment section.

View this post on Instagram                         A post shared by BROWN (@chrisbrownofficial)

Moreover, Brown’s 10th album, Breezy (Deluxe) , is nominated for Best R&B Album at the 2023 Grammy Awards .

The ceremony airs live Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

Breezy (Deluxe)  was released July 8 via RCA Records, just one week after  Breezy .  The standard edition debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart and No. 2 on the Top R&B Albums chart.

Brown supported  Breezy  on his co-headlining One of Them Ones Tour   with rap sensation Lil Baby .

The two acts played in major cities across North America from mid-July through late August.

In other news, Brown released two holiday songs last month, “ It’s Giving Christmas ” and “ No Time Like Christmas .”

The two festive tracks are Brown’s first Christmas-themed songs since releasing his album, Heartbreak on a Full Moon (Deluxe Edition): Cuffing Season – 12 Days of Christmas .

The expanded edition, released Dec. 13, 2017, included his Ella Mai-assisted track “This X-Mas.”

Before that, in 2007, he released his stellar rendition of Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas” and a reimagined version of “Try a Little Tenderness.”

Both renditions appeared on the soundtrack for the holiday comedy,  This Christmas , in which he starred alongside Loretta Devine, Delroy Lindo, Idris Elba and Regina King.

On Sunday, Jan. 1, West Coast icons E-40 and P-Lo , who recently collaborated on their hit single, “Again,” featuring LaRussell, closed out the epic weekend.

Located 11 stories high on the rooftop of The Cromwell, Drai’s views of the Las Vegas Strip’s Fireworks Extravaganza were unmatched – making the renowned club one of the top spots in the world to ring in the New Year. The countdown set off a roar of toasts, cheers and kisses from the crowd, and the fireworks were a befitting opening act for Brown, who delivered an explosive concert for fans. One of the top-selling artists of this century, Brown is the newest A-list superstar to join Drai’s LIVE’s exceptional lineup of resident artists – and is the first to perform on his own custom-built stage. The megastar put an exclamation point on 2022 and set the stage for a thrilling 2023 with some of his greatest hits, including “Yeah 3X,” “Go Crazy” and “Ayo,” closing the night with “No Guidance.”

Medford-born artist BIA , known for her smooth flow and multilingual versatility, kicked the weekend off on Thursday, Dec. 29 with her first Drai’s performance. The superstar has appeared alongside perennial powerhouses including Nicki Minaj and J Balvin on “Whole Lotta Money” and “Safari.” BIA got the crowd jumping with her high-energy hits, priming guests for an entire weekend of all-star performances.

Every weekend, the Drai’s LIVE concert series brings big names like Lil Wayne , 2 Chainz , DaBaby and Wiz Khalifa to the rooftop of The Cromwell, with banner performances set to the stunning backdrop of the lights of the Las Vegas Strip. Drai’s Nightclub is open from 10 p.m. – 4 a.m. Friday – Saturday.

We have more newsletters

One of the world's top R&B singers, Grammy award-winning Chris Brown has landed in Manchester on his European Under The Influence tour for not one, but three dates in the city.

At one point reportedly banned from Britain for the assault of his then -girlfriend Rihanna, then facing multiple other assault allegations, the 33-year-old artist is no stranger to controversy. His latest tour is no exception, with reports of a phone-throwing incident involving a female audience member.

But with extra show dates added to an already big tour to meet demand, his reputation certainly doesn't seem to have harmed ticket sales.

What it does do though, is invite a razor-sharp focus on his performance. Will his talent shine through tonight and make the audience simply unable to focus on anything else but his music?

Descending from the ceiling on a wire in a red jacket and black pants, he kicks off the night with the slinky Indigo to a chorus of deafening screams, followed by the poppy Beautiful People.

There's no build-up - we're in and he's off, not a second wasted.

"I gotta lotta f***ing songs!" he clarifies, launching into Yeah, Party, Ayo and other anthemic tracks.

Donning a black and red T-shirt with the slogan: 'Emotional Support Animal', he pulls off a series of Michael Jackson-esque dance moves that can't fail to make you smile.

Don't Judge Me is a rather apt inclusion with its lyric: "Take me as I am and not who I was."

And it looks like the crowd definitely are.

2005's Run It kicks off a retro whirl of tracks - we only get snippets but they're all good.

Next it's Take Me Down, or rather 'get me up' as one female audience member gets invited on stage for a lap dance from Mr Brown and actually manages to look pretty relaxed as one of the biggest artists in the R&B world gyrates in front of her. It's short enough to be fun rather than sleazy though.

chris brown tour 2023 review

The thirteen backing dancers are excellent, if a little gynaecological at times with their thong bodysuits and energetic leg lifts.

The stage goes up in flames - in a good way, as Heat heralds the start of the next section, featuring tracks mostly from his latest album, Breezy.

Warm Embrace sees the screen fills with naked nymphs sitting on clouds, while Brown changes into another black top and black jeans combo. He does don a white set of clothes later but it's actually refreshing how few outfit changes he has. Substance triumphs over style in this show.

Brown's material goes from poppy to soppy in a heartbeat but the sexy highlight of the night is the hot and heavy Under The Influence with a dancer simulating a kiss with the man himself.

The crowd chant the lyrics - they really do seem to know EVERY word to every song, no mean feat when we get nearly 50 of them, albeit only snippets of some.

chris brown tour 2023 review

Crucially though, he chooses the right songs to snip and the ones to sing fuller versions of and even gives the crowd a choice of tracks to pick from on a gameshow type board.

Yo, No Air and Forever are what the audience want so that's what they get.

Then it's Iffy, Loyal and all too soon, it's over, with Brown urging, rather unnecessarily: "Before we get outta here let's go f***ing crazy!" before launching into the eponymous song.

Whatever you think of Chris Brown’s personal life, he's undeniably a great showman. His vocals, dancing and backing dancers are flawless and the show is perfectly paced.

There's no posturing, no boring displays of ego or dull chat, and no messing about. It's just pure unadulterated fun and the crowd lap it up.

Chris Brown – 11:11 (Album Review)

Chris Brown strikes gold right before midnight in “11:11.” STREAM TOP 5   5. Stutter Is there a song called “Stutter” that is bad? Chris Brown strikes gold right before midnight in “11:11.”

Is there a song called “stutter” that is bad.

In a music world where people sample extensively, I thought “Stutter” might borrow from Joe’s classic track from 2001. However, it’s not the case. Instead, it’s a completely original track where Chris Brown talks about being involved with a woman so attractive that she leaves him stuttering worse than Joe Biden.

I adore the essence of this song. It incorporates relatable romantic lyrics, a classic slow jam sound, and simple yet effective melodies. When Chris is in this element, he’s top 5.

4. Nightmares (Ft. Byron Messia)

I think i like this song because i absolutely love “talibans.”.

In “Nightmares,” Chris Brown and Byron Messia talk about pressing folks that try to f**k with their energy. Both musicians pop off, getting very specific about what they and their shooters will do to you. And trust me, shaking your hand isn’t one of the things they’ll do.

What’s interesting about “Nightmares” is that it gives me the same vibes as “Talibans.” In the song, you get gutter lyrics masked with pleasant vocals, infectious melodies, and a pretty chill beat. If you don’t understand English, you would think the two artists were discussing picking flowers and s**t.

I think “Shooter” is a sneaky-good Caribbean track that precedes this track.

Top 5 Chris Brown Albums: Chris Brown’s Best Albums, According To RGM

3. Summer Too Hot

Chris brown sweats as much as paolo banchero.

I love the vibes that “Summer Too Hot” boasts. In the song, Chris Brown hits us with silky smooth vocals that perfectly complement the laid-back, uptempo, and nostalgic production. As for lyrically, in his verses, Chris talks about sneaky linking and getting freaky with a bad little ting. If I were to guess, this banger would go hard at pool parties.

2. Angel Numbers / Ten Toes

Starting this album with a moving track like “angel numbers / ten toes” was genius..

Chris Brown has a lot of passionate performances on this album. However, I didn’t connect with them all. I completely connected with his passionate performance in “Angel Numbers / Ten Toes.” In the song, which goes from sounding emotional as s**t to sounding like an emotional bop, Chris Brown talks about his resilience, the “healing energy” on him, and being ready for whatever the world throws at him. The track is my kind of inspirational: Not mushy and invigorating.

1. Press Me

I love a good commercial r&b record like “press me.”.

“Press Me” has a perfect tempo, an excellent bridge, an extremely catchy chorus, and tangy production that does an excellent job of straddling the thin line between sounding like some 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s s**t. There isn’t a single bad thing I can say about this song.

SONG BY SONG BREAKDOWN

1. Angel Numbers / Ten Toes (5/5)

2. Sensational (Ft. Davido & Lojay) (4/5)

3. Press Me (5/5)

4. That’s On You (3.5/5)

19. Feelings Don’t Lie (3/5)

20. Red Flags (4/5)

21. Closer (4/5)

22. Views (3.5/5)

A consistent observation I make about Chris Brown is his unwavering commitment to giving maximum effort. He pours his heart and soul into every song he makes. In 11:11 , that’s precisely the dedication we witness. Throughout the album, Chris delivers passionate vocal performances and compelling lyrics, exploring various facets of romance. However, despite these strengths, other aspects of the album left me somewhat disappointed.

In my view, the instrumentals come across as a bit basic, and the melodies feel somewhat predictable in 11:11 . I found myself thinking, “I’ve heard this song before,” repeatedly, which, in my opinion, can be detrimental to R&B tracks relying on infectiousness.

I also wish we got a little more edginess from Chris in 11:11 . What happened to the bad-boy version of the Virginia native? I feel like that version is completely missing from this album. We all like Bad-boy Chris, right?

Despite pointing out some aspects I don’t particularly love about 11:11 , I believe the album is a pretty solid listen. It showcases captivating singing performances that appeal to the average listener, who may not engage in detailed album critiques like myself and others. In fact, here’s the best way to summarize this album: If you’ve never listened to a Chris Brown project before, I think you would enjoy it. Having personally listened to numerous of his albums, some of which have over 40 tracks, I didn’t find much special about it.

chris brown tour 2023 review

A track-by-track review of Chris Brown's '11:11' Deluxe album

C hris Brown dropped the deluxe version of his ' 11:11 ' album on April 11, 2024. This appears to be in line with his "1111" angel number theme, representing a spiritual awakening, that is prevalent throughout the project.

Chris took to social media to announce this project with a post detailing the complete list of tracks that have been included in the deluxe project. It seems the R&B singer has added 13 new tracks to the album bringing the total number of songs on the album's tracklist to 35.

His intention to bring up the album's tracklist to this number could be a reference to his project's release coinciding with his 35th birthday on May 5, 2024. This album review will focus on the fresh records that have been added to 11:11's OG tracklist which debuted in November 2023.

The following tracks were part of the album's initial release:

  • Angel Numbers / Ten Toes
  • Sensational (Feat. Davido and Lojay)
  • That's On You (Feat. Future)
  • Feel Something
  • Best Ever (Feat. Maeta)
  • No One Else (Feat. Fridayy)
  • Nightmares (Feat. Byron Messia)
  • Very Special
  • Midnight Freak
  • Bouncing / G5
  • Make Up Your Mind
  • Need A Friend
  • Summer Too Hot
  • Feelings Don't Lie

11:11 (Deluxe) was released to all major DSPs (Digital Streaming Platforms) via RCA Records under an exclusive license from Chris Brown Entertainment LLC.

Breaking down Chris Brown's new 11:11 (Deluxe) album

Chris's new project, 11:11 (Deluxe) , contains 13 fresh off-the-pan tracks that feature some of the biggest artists in the music industry like Bryson Tiller, Lil Wayne, Joyner Lucas , and more.

The themes on these new tracks are very similar to those tackled on the original album. Notable thematic elements identified in this project include:

  • Relationships
  • Self-reflection

Disclaimer: This album review is rated explicit. Reader's discretion is advised.

1) Bruce Lee

(Production Credits: YX)

Bruce Lee opens 11:11 (Deluxe) with an intoxicating production that appears to blend afro-beat music with trap and pop. This makes for an interesting listen that draws listeners into a self-reflecting emotional record .

The lyricism on this track appears to use water as a metaphor to highlight the fluidity of the relationship that is required to ensure its long-term survival. Some notable lines from Bruce Lee include:

"High tide, we capsize / We blame it on something lunar, rogue winds are coming in (We're sinking) / Secrets are washing out, if we make it out the storm / We're stronger, so we need to move like water."

2) Go Girlfriend

(Blaq Tuxedo)

Go Girlfriend is a track whose production is filled with classic Chris Brown tropes from the slow-paced rhythm to the dance-trap music elements incorporated into its instrumental.

Chris appears to playfully praise his girlfriend throughout the track highlighting her beauty and the closeness of their relationship, which is best evidenced in the chorus of the track where he sings:

"Go girlfriend, go girlfriend / You s*xy and you know it / Your best friend, my best friend / We best friends and we f**kin."

3) No Interruptions

(Production Credits: Bizness Boi, Fortune, Fridayy, and Kofo)

The third track, No Interruptions , features silky drum patterns that flow over a pop instrumental , blending perfectly well with Brown's vocal performances.

The lyricism on this record draws listeners in with its emotional tone. It has the singer speaking directly to his love interest highlighting how they should get away from all the noise and give each other "undivided" attention. The theme of this song is best noticed in the chorus where Brown sings:

"I get you wetter than the sea when we touchin' / Put your phone on DND, no interruptions (Oh) / Bout to turn this little fling into somethin."

4) Run Away (Feat. Bryson Tiller)

(Production Credits: Boi-1da and YogiTheProducer)

Run Away opens as the fourth track on Chris's new album alongside a feature from Bryson Tiller , who also dropped his self-titled fourth studio album last Friday. The production on this track is electric and filled with boppy drum patterns creating a perfect club-dance anthem.

The lyricism on this song dives into themes of relationships, love, and s*x , with both artists expressing their interest in providing for their love interest. Some of the lines that emphasize this theme show up in the chorus which reads:

"He don't know you need the bag every Monday, hey, hey / Watch this, yeah / Got them bands in my pockets / Girl, you know I'll pay for it, but watch this."

5) Delusional

Delusional is a fast-paced love song that incorporates thick bass drops, 808s, and hi-hats into its composition making this one of the most enticing songs in the project.

The lyrics add several layers to the depth of this track, with Chris looking back on a lost relationship highlighting how they both were too "delusional" to notice they were never meant to be together. Some of the most memorable lines on this track include:

"Neither side wants to take an L and be the one to blame / Somehow it's my fault, no problem / In your eyes, I can see you think that we will never change / Baby, maybe we was just delusional."

6) Freak (Feat. Joyner Lucas x Lil Wayne x Tee Grizzley)

(Production Credits: ADHD Productions and Leo Son)

Freak opens with an intro from Joyner Lucas before the production kicks in with a fresh Hip/Hop composition that samples Nelly's 2002 track Air Force Ones. This is what makes the song a stand-out entry on 11:11 (Deluxe). The track is filled with bars, double entendres, and s*xual metaphors delivered with aggressive performances from all four artists.

From Joyner shouting out Kanye West and his Sunday Service choir to Lil Wayne comparing his regular s*x life to Uber Eats, these are the most notable lines that stood out on Freak :

"[Lil Wayne] Look, ma, let's get freaky deaky, baby / Give me so much head, I can tell you what you thinkin', baby / Ooh, now I'm creamin', got you lookin' like you been drinkin' Baileys / Weezy F, AF, I'm a freaky alien."

7) Won't Keep You Waiting (Feat. Mario)

(Production Credits: 1Mind, GYW Eli, KVRIM & Sam E Lee Jones)

Won't Keep You Waiting finds the project returning to its pop music production with elements of Afro-beats and electric performances from both, Chris and Mario. It goes on to highlight the intimacy of their relationships.

In the chorus, both artists are performing side by side expressing how their love for their partner runs so deep that the relationship feels endless, almost like they're in "eternity". Some of the notable lines from the chorus include:

"It feels like eternity / What we did was so heavy / Come and get it, you wanted all of me / No, I won't keep you waiting, no."

8) Hmmm (Feat. Davido)

(Production Credits: Young Alpha)

Hmmm is the first track on 11:11 (Deluxe) to completely embrace the Afro-beat inspiration into its production, with the whole track filled with entrancing trap music elements. Nigerian singer-songwriter Davido's feature on this track is effectively introduced as he manages to build the vibe on this record by opening the first verse.

Chris' vocal performance on this track also appears to draw inspiration from African linguistics, with the lyrics referencing the toxic nature of an unfulfilling relationship. Some of the notable bars from this song include:

"[Chris Brown] Big bakassi (Mm-hmm) / Under the influence (Mm-hmm) / She wanna get freaky, freaky (She wanna get freaky) / Make your boyfriend no go dey vex / Tell me what you want from me / You wey I see for ozumbadiwe (Mm-hmm) / She said you tryna get off the streets."

9) Afterlife

(Production Credits: BeazyTymes and Louis Bell)

Afterlife is a track with an upbeat production that samples and draws inspiration from Michael Jackson's 1989 record Leave Me Alone. The song was initially previewed back in 2017 on Brown's Instagram account following the release of his Deluxe version of Heartbreak on a Full Moon .

The lyrics find Chris explaining how his attraction toward his love interest will never cease as he hopes to continue their relationship even after they both die, intending to meet her in the "afterlife". The pre-chorus of the song builds on this theme as he sings:

"And don't even make a mistake / It's too hard to get away / 'Cause there's a chance I gotta take on my own / And even though my bones, they might break / And this body's no more / Just meet me in the afterlife."

10) S*x So Good

(Production Credits: Troy Taylor, Xris Keys, and WillOnnaBeat)

The soft R&B track, S*x So Good, finds Chris performing sultry lyrics over a slow-paced production that invites listeners in with its harmonies and melodies .

The lyrics, although explicit, emphasize how all the problems that he and his partner might face in their relationship together tend to fade away when they get intimate with each other. This point is brought forward in the chorus of the song where Chris sings:

"Leave you on read, yeah / I know how to get in your head, yeah / Oh, you'd rather meet me in your bed, yeah / And before you cut me off, I'll come through and break you off, shawty."

11) My Slime

(Production Credits: Bizness Boi and Christopher Bivens)

The 11th track on Chris Brown's 11:11 (Deluxe) is the track titled My Slime a fast-paced trap/R&B composition . This song finds the singer highlighting how he wants his muse to stand by his side i.e. be his "slime".

Slime is a term used to identify a close personal relationship with an individual, which can be seen expressed in the chorus for the track which states:

"We got ties / Yo, that's my shooter, she stay qualified (Qualified) / We always see it eye to eye (Eye) / I just wanna make you my slime."

12) Sweet Lullaby

(Production Credits: Mussiah Lott)

Sweet Lullaby is an emotionally painful production that finds Chris harmonizing over his love for this woman who appears to have him hooked. Throughout the song, the singer seems to be alluding to her beauty and attraction as the reasons for him making these love songs.

The chorus dives deeper into these themes as Chris gets more metaphorical with his writing to explain the relationship he has with this woman, where he sings:

"All I see is smoke and mirrors / I ignore it 'cause she's a bad b*tch / Then the smoke gets clearer / And then she comes and gives me the passion, attraction, she's the definition of malice / Such a beautiful distraction."

13) Residuals

(Production Credits: Blaq Tuxedo and Eric Hudson)

The final addition to 11:11 (Deluxe) is Residuals which like many of the tracks on this project is a soft R&B love song whose jazzy production makes the song an interesting listen.

Chris Brown's lyrics and vocal performances on this song appear to be more somber with him pondering over who would receive his "residuals" if his current relationship ends. Some of the lines that best evidence this theme include:

"Tryna put a muzzle on my crazy feelings / One minute I'm cool and then the next, I'm tripping, no / With somebody new, I swear she done deserted / Wasted on my mind, she still on my mind."

The production and vocal performances on this album are stellar and exceptionally well done. However, the project does lack a certain depth from the perspective that several tracks could be excluded from the album but it would sonically still sound the same.

Several songs on both of Chris Brown's projects, 11:11 and 11:11 (Deluxe), revolve around the recurring themes of love, intimacy, and relationships. They seem to be refusing to create a linear storyline that listeners can get attached to. However, it is possible that leaving his audience wanting more was Chris's artistic direction all along.
