BABYMETAL last week revealed that they will release their first concept album, "The Other One" , on Friday, March 24, 2023. Leading up to this concept album release, five pre-release digital singles will be available worldwide for download and streaming, each respectively scheduled to release in October, November, January, February, and March.

BABYMETAL was formed in 2010. Their mission was to unify the world through heavy metal by creating a fusion of heavy metal and the Japanese pop genre. Their music contains a stunning mix of electronic pop, a pinch of alternative and industrial rock, and is leveled up by fast-driven heavy metal. Their live shows are ground-breaking and epic visual as well as sound performances. BABYMETAL continued to travel the path of metal with the international release of their three albums, telling the story of the mighty Fox God and his brave metal warriors.

A book about the first ten years of BABYMETAL , "Bessatsu Kadokawa Souryoku Tokushuu" , was released in Japan in October 2020. It contains a long interview with Su-metal and Moametal as well as never-before-heard stories from band producer Kobametal from BABYMETAL 's decade-long history, photos taken from live shows, a discussion between Demon Kakka and Kobametal , and much more.

In 2018, BABYMETAL announced the departure of Yuimetal , who was formerly one of the members of the Japanese group's core trio. She exited the band, explaining in a statement that she would go on to pursue a solo career as Mizuno Yu .

I confess, I was looking forward to seeing some kind of collaboration between Sabaton and The Hu (as they did with both Amaranthe and Apocalyptica the last time they played the UK), but the mind boggles as to what they’re going to get up to with Babymetal! Joakim did guest on one of their songs , so maybe we’ll see him take to the stage a set early? I’ve not seen the J-Metal band live before so I’m looking forward to it.

Anyway, that’s just my opinion. The official PR statement follows…

With their fascination for the stories of World War I and two dedicated studio albums filled to the brim with stories from this conflict, the band from Falun have decided to dive even deeper into this topic with their newest release: The EP trilogy entitled Echoes Of The Great War.

This new EP trilogy features new songs specifically about World War I, coupled with topically related catalogue music. You read that right; Sabaton has been busy in the studio recording some new music for their fans. With this WWI collection, the band aims to present this music in a different way, enabling the listener to familiarise themselves with these incredible war stories, while simultaneously quenching the thirst for metal music.

Commenting on the new project, Pär Sundström states:

“This trilogy complements our two studio albums The Great War and The War To End All Wars. We were definitely not ready to close our World War I chapter. We wanted to continue the journey and let it echo a little longer in the hearts and minds of our fans."

The first in the series, Weapons Of The Modern Age, is out now. In times of conflict, science is very much linked to the war system. The First World War witnessed some of the biggest leaps in scientific evolution, weaponizing land, sea and skies in ways never witnessed before. This EP sheds light on the powerful and devastating tactics used to fight the war, and kicking off this release is SABATON's new track, "Father".

Sharing his insight on the track, Joakim Broden declares:

“Our new song, 'Father', is a dark track about a very controversial person. Fritz Haber, the man who weaponized lethal gas, is responsible for about 4 billion people being alive today thanks to the Haber-Bosch process that he won a Nobel Prize for. It takes some serious thought to wrap your head around his story. Things aren’t always easy to understand or simply black and white, but rather all shades of grey. 'Father' really forces you to think a bit more than the average song you hear on the radio."

Weapons Of The Modern Age is available at all streaming platforms found here . Watch the "Father" lyric video below.

All three bands have been dismissed at points of their careers due to perceived gimmicks - the "monster" band, the "Kawaii" band, the "tank" band - but a sold-out, full capacity Wembley Arena proves that no matter what dismissive statements you might make against them, there are at least 12,000 fans who prove these bands are a very beloved part of the heavy metal firmament.

First up for metal's wildest tour of 2023 are Lordi, the Finnish shock rockers who took top spot at Eurovision in 2006 and set a precedent for many hopeful metal acts for years to come (including Voyager and Lord Of The Lost , who will be representing Australia and Germany respectively this year).

At their best, Lordi are purveyors of spooky shanties designed for mass consumption, but Wembley seems somewhat subdued in response for their opening set. The cheers of approval for the band's arrival don't quite mesh with the lack of mass sing-alongs as the band tuck into a short but sweet set, but nonetheless a combination of nostalgia and brilliant songwriting ensures we feel the magic of Would You Love A Monsterman?, Blood Red Sandman and Devil Is A Loser , with a thumping Hard Rock Halleujah making us feel like its 2006 all over again.

Lordi Wembley 2023

Lordi setlist - Wembley Arena, April 15 2023

  • Dead Again Jayne
  • Would You Love A Monsterman?
  • Thing In The Cage
  • Blood Red Sandman
  • Lucyfer Prime Evil
  • Devil Is A Loser
  • Who's Your Daddy?
  • Hard Rock Halelujah

The fact these are the first shows Babymetal has played in the UK as an official trio for almost five years feels like Big News. While they have long had a stand-in third member in the form of the Avengers dancers (Momoko Okazaki herself being one of these), the addition of "Momometal" as an official member lends a natural sense of cohesion to Babymetal's performance.

“We are so excited to be back at WEMBLEY ARENA,” Su-Metal offers, a canny reminder that this band have been playing to thousands of people almost since their first appearance in the UK. The next 40 minutes flies by in a blitzkrieg of sweeping riffs, blaring synths, soaring symphoncs and utterly captivating stagecraft as the trio show off a near-inhuman level of precision in their choreography.

For all the infectious, hyperactive energy of their early songs, its new cuts Divine Attack - Shingeki and Monochrome that feel the most enormous, absolutely titanic tunes that make songs like Gimme Chocolate!! feel almost cartoonish in comparison, the audience clearly braying for more as the band depart.

  • BABYMETAL DEATH
  • PA PA YA!!
  • Divine Attack - Shingeki
  • Gimme Chocolate!!
  • Road Of Resistance

Calling Sabaton "the tank band" feels utterly redundant at this point. Yes, their drumriser is a tank, but at Wembley Arena it's only a very small part of a Broadway-sized theatrical production Sabaton are putting on, an enormous sign over the stage proclaiming The Tour To End All Tours going some way to the sheer scale the Swedes are delivering in 2023.

A cascade of exloding fireworks signals the band's arrival and feels especially chaotic as Sabaton rush the stage with all the intensity of an actual invasion - and by god if they don't have the ordinance to back it up. From a seemingly endless supply of pyro that turns an already-warm Wembley into a scorching sauna to everything from actors portraying historical figures like Gavrilo Princip and German flying ace the Bloody Baron to smoke canons, fireworks-firing bazookas and a snow machine, every song seemingly comes with its own flourishes that makes the whole thing feel like a Blockbuster epic.

And if you took away those special effects? Well, then you have some of the most infectiously joyous songs in the heavy metal can(n)on. Ghost Division , Carolus Rex, Stormtroopers, Soldier Of Heaven - each of these massive anthems waves the flag for the bombastic, triumphant spirit that has made heavy metal such a formidable force these past 50 years, to coin a phrase from Babymetal: "transcending generational divides and language barriers".

Whether they're playing practical jokes on each other - at one point singer Joakim Brodén's incredibly sweaty face is plastered with plectrums - or mavelling at the fact the first time the band played London was at the now-closed 200 capacity Purple Turtle (where they sold just 90 tickets), it all feels like vindication for Sabaton sticking to their guns - and tanks, and planes that conceal keyboards - for so long to literally conquer one of London's most revered large-scale venues.

In turn, Wembley utterly adores the band for it. The sing-alongs come thick and fast for the more bombastic numbers, while ballads like Motorhead cover 1916 and Christmas Truce met with a sea of shining lights that capture the wonder and magic Sabaton embody.

With grit, perserverance and yes, a stage show that comes off like a Michael Bay wet dream, Sabaton have added their own epic entry to the heavy metal pantheon, shrugging off the "gimmick" tag to show time and again they are exactly what this genre has been built upon, metal legends in their own right.

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

Review by Gary Spiller for MPM

It’s been a while coming to actual fruition for ‘ The Tour To End All Tours, but the time has now arrived for the prodigious bulk of Swedish power metallers Sabaton to land in town.

Their particular cathedral of heavy metal has constructed its altar within the cavernous environs of the Cardiff International Arena. Queues of eager, devoted fans snake about the city streets of Caerdydd hours ahead of doors awaiting their opportunity to worship.

It’s a sold-out gig and with 7,500 in the assembled ranks there’s a tangible buzz in this corner of the Welsh capital. Justifiably so as Sabaton have ensured an entire evening of spectacle with a canny choice of support acts. They’ve brought the might of fellow Scandinavians Lordi to the arena alongside the Asian polished dance metal delights of Babymetal. This is, make no bones about it, a triple-billing that bears the hallmark of an industrious quality.

A bell dolefully chimes, metal striking upon metal, as the mountaintop halls send out their darkened call. Rampant helldogs descend from the moorland lairs. Leaving their granitic homelands behind them they swoop in for the kill with fire emanating from their flared nostrils. Their overlord Mr. Lordi strides forth, a character larger than life itself with his four lieutenants about him. Legendary Finnish shock heavy metal force Lordi have landed, no prisoners will be taken. This will be a death or glory moment.

The 2006 Eurovision winners are rapidly into their pounding parade kicking off with the latest single, and album opener, ‘Dead Again Jayne’ rocking to the very core. Hella’s harem scarem keys skitter hither and tither before the combined forces of drummer Mana, bassist Hiisi and axeman Kone flood over the precipice. Mr. Lordi, the bastard offspring of the Duke of Demons and Angel the Troll, unleashes his supernatural strengths, necromancy afoot. Clawed hands stretch skywards.

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

There’s tribute to Kiss, Twisted Sister, Alice Cooper, and their kin but this is undeniably a new tack. The anthemic banquet of their first ever single ‘Would You Love A Monsterman?’ possesses a biomechanical vehemence and more hook than an entire decade’s subscription to the Angling Times. Out front Mr. Lordi is an engaging, charismatic presence. “So, you decided to spend your Sunday with Swedish metal and Japanese rock, but you got us for forty minutes” he quips in self-deprecation. Judging by the approving roars, just two tracks in, all gathered herein are more than content.

The predator’s fury is set loose as the ranks offensively break forth. The living doll Hella’s keys swirl enhancing the kinetic of ‘Thing In The Cage’ that is driven by the six-string precision of Kone. Under the incantation’s scripture the scene reddens in bloodlust hues ahead of the infectious roar of ‘Blood Red Sandman.’ Raising his horns Mr. Lordi howls an Ozzy-like soul-curdling scream.

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

Fists punch the air, and the assembled horde sings along entranced under the wizardry, the overlord is moved. “Aww you are way too kind” he dismisses before enquiring as to the crowd’s wellbeing. Completing a 1-2-3 trading between new and old ‘Lucyfer Prime Evil’ – off the very recently released ‘Screem Writers Guild’ – precedes, most aptly, the bone-white rocking of ‘Devil Is a Loser.’ Stone gargoyles, on the granular wing, cackle in satanic timbre as bloody teeth are bared in the moonlight of the killed. Lordi are setting a high bar with a skeletal army ready to strike, curved swords strike demonic metallic shields afore the battle to commence.

“Back to the 2006 album, we’ll play that one but not just yet” Mr. Lordi playfully teases the maxed-out arena. The Arockalypse is upon us as Lordi ask ‘Who’s Your Daddy?’ Completely under the metalliferous conjuration the crowd, emboldened by the powerage, chant “Daddy” atop the fiery undercurrent of Cooper and Kiss. Contagion levels threaten to go through the roof as the keyed intro of ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah’ elicits a thundering roar.

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

The rock’s about to roll as the moon rises, demons and angels as one land. The assembled generate an electricity that surges as Lordi raises a double headed battle axe to bring down the metaphorical curtain. To profound effect the horror of King and Herbert has been alloyed in dramatic fashion with the high fantasy of Tolkien and Pratchett with a good dash of the latter’s larger than life humour.

In their first batch of international shows for over three years kawaii metal act Babymetal bring their fusion of heavy metal and Japanese idol genres to Cardiff. Their band, identities hidden behind their cult-like masks, assemble quietly upon the darkened stage as an ecclesiastical-esque intro reverberates about the cloisters. A Churchillian monologue pervades the darkness.

With a burst of red backlighting the drummer bursts into an expeditious beat, deftly joined by the guitarist who more than equals the machine gun percussive forces. The crowd chant as they greet their beloved trio of lead singers who comprise the nucleus of the group. Lead singer Su-metal takes to the centre with her compatriots Moametal and Mumometal to her flanks. ‘Babymetal Death’ – off the eponymous debut album – sets the tone. The band, totally anonymous, are the hard-hitting backdrop for the slick choreography afront.

The fans out in the arena clearly love it, chanting each letter of the band’s name in absolute rapture but under the lifeblood red lighting I’m left a touch bewildered. It’s an alloying of styles that is, to me, somewhat alien. Clearly a generational matter as the younger elements of the arena rage in a glorious fury during the freneticism of ‘Megitsune.’ Metal is evolving and this is right there up front and centre of the maelstrom.

‘Pa Pa Ya’ is infectious to the point of face-melting whilst the coupling of the bouncing ‘Metalizm’ and the stand-out ethereal ‘Monochrome’ constructs the set upwards to a blinding crescendo. The latter sees phone lights abound about the CIA, a stirring sight.

A spacecraft descends to earth, its occupants demanding cocoa-based confectionery to a rapid-fire despatch. ‘Gimme Chocolate’ pleases in all quarters whilst the blues-fringed saccharine-fuelled metal of ‘Road Of Resistance’ is faster than the bullet from the gun. With high-kicking dancing wrapping up kinetically enthused 40 minutes that goes down an absolute storm with the overwhelming majority of the CIA crowd.

It’s evident that the ranks of Babymetal fans, to their absolute credit, are fiercely loyal in their adoration and support of their band, rightfully so. This is the sunrise of a brand-new day in terms of musical crossovers which is to be commended but their set has taken myself well beyond the boundaries of my comfort zone. I’ve been challenged here this evening and the ball is now firmly on my side of the court. Babymetal have delivered.

Branded ‘The Tour To End All Tours’ this moment has been over two decades in the coming for Swedish titans Sabaton . It’s been an ever-ascending journey for these ground-breaking power metal exponents who hail from the copper town of Falun. Multiple Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards and nominations for the Swedish equivalent of the Grammys along with the charting success of 2019’s ‘The Great War’ and its partner ‘The War To End All Wars’, from last year, bears an abiding testament to their continuing rise.

For the third consecutive date the opening pyrotechnical blast ‘appears’ to go awry. There’s a frantic scurrying of tech staff and the scene is set with the stage darkening once more and the intro – “Sun Tzu Says the art of war is of vital importance to the State” – sets the scene perfectly. If the first barrage was impressive then the second, to which Sabaton storm forwards, is eye-wateringly and ear-shatteringly detonative, smoke bombs add further to the spectacle. Surely that was felt in Swansea and Newport, a truly seismic event.

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

Blink and you’re guaranteed to miss something on-stage; the lighting rig is on overtime and the PA is driven to the max. Sabaton hit the stage, metaphorical hooves thundering and sparking, at full pelt delivering the rousing ‘Ghost Division.’ Rommel’s Panzer Elite roll as powerhouse frontman Joakim Broden, centre-stage, is joined by bassist Par Sundstrom and six-stringers Chris Rorland and Tommy Johansson to rally the CIA ensemble. Drummer Hannes Van Dahl is seemingly unphased as the tank, upon which he and his kit sit atop, fires a salvo as the stage erupts.

Sabaton, a keen eye upon history, continue their examination of WWII from the Axis perspective with the 50,000 tons of steel that comprised the bulk of the ‘Bismarck’ – once the pride of the Kriegsmarine – despatched to devasting effect. Broden loses his place momentarily, distracted as Sundstrom and Rorland proceed to stick confetti to his forehead. Chuckling the vocalist regains his composure as all around flames erupt as Sabaton do their level best to toast one and all.

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

It’s a relentless metallic tableau, bells mournfully toll their Hemingway-esque warning as the twin guitars appear atop platforms either side of the stage for pounding punch of ‘The Last Stand’ – a relating of the heroic backs-to-the-walls efforts of the Swiss Guard during the Sack Of Rome in 1527.

Broden appears awestruck “Wow what a welcome on a Sunday!” jokingly adding “You must have been exhausted being in church all day!” The sheer pace and precision of ‘Into The Fire,’ exploring the horrors of the usage of napalm in the Vietnam conflict, quite literally turns up the thermals.

Cumulonimbus clouds, clustered along a squall line, herald ‘Carolus Rex.’ “Alright let’s test your Swedish!” challenges Broden. Exuding nationalistic pride Sabaton virtuously despatch a metallic tribute to the 5 th King of the Swedish Empire. Most appropriately the arched tour title is lit in alternating yellow and blue.

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

The opening segment of the set draws to a close, unnoticed by most, by the cavalry charge of ‘Winged Hussars’ brandishing a touch of Iron Maiden melded with Steve Vai. The remainder of the main body turns its attention towards WW1 – the salient subject matter of the band’s latest two albums. As a shadowy figure fires a pistol so we’re jerked back to 1914 and the declaration of war that followed the assignation of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. ‘Sarajevo’ resounds before the Imperial ‘Stormtroopers’ march offensively. Atop the watch towers shock troops scorch all before them with their potent flamethrowers, the brutality of war never diminishes.

Released, as a single to celebrate the ‘Stories From The Western Front EP, Sabaton’s emotively charged rendition of Motorhead’s ‘1916’ brings the roof down; there’s a rumour bouncing about the arena that long-standing Motorhead guitarist is in tonight. If he is, and I suspect he is, then he’ll approve wholeheartedly as Johansson nails the solo whilst Van Dahl and Sundstrom, all the while, lay down a fearsome rhythm.

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

A chill suddenly descends as snow begins to blow, high from the mountain peaks ‘Soldier Of Heaven’ brings forth the depths of the raging blizzard in glorious technicolour with an uprising chorus. With flames emanating from the tank, and about the stage, the broadside of ‘Dreadnought’ inflicts a mighty strength from within. A lone sailor salutes as blues-inflicted fretwork from Johannson launches horizonward.

For ‘The Red Baron’ the keys are housed in a distinctive red Fokker triplane; swooping and rolling with a deadly strike Sabaton wreak trademark intensity upon the sold-out CIA. The abominable abhorrence of poison gas is explored in the swirling clouds of ‘Father’ and ‘The Attack of the Dead Men.’ The former a dark exploration of the contradictions of Fritz Haber – a Nobel Prize winner for his invention of the Haber-Bosch process but also considered the ‘father of chemical warfare.’ Thought provoking matter as a white coated scientist leads a team wheeling out the laboratory equipment.

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

Donning gas masks Sabaton emerge from the murky effluvium for ‘The Attack of the Dead Men’ – a narration of the abominable suffering of the Russian defenders at Osowiec Fortress who were attacked by German forces utilising chlorine and bromine. As the snow falls, once more, so the heinous acts of war are balanced with the telling of ‘Christmas Truce’ introduced by Sundstrom who relates to playing in front of just 24 people in TJ’s, Newport before gathering the arena to partake with this stunning set closer. Mobile phones spectacularly light up the arena in serene respect.

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

After an hour and a quarter more action packed than a Hollywood blockbuster Sabaton take the deserved roar of 7,500 souls rammed into the CIA before slipping off stage to gather their collective senses. This has been theatrical heavy metal production of the highest order, but Sabaton are not finished just yet.

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

Regaining the stage just a couple of minutes later the quintet explosively power into the frenetic fury of the titular ‘Primo Victoria’ before letting loose rampaging ‘Swedish Pagans.’ Band and crowd, alike unified as one, as the encore builds to the finale to end all finales with ‘To Hell and Back.’ In front of me a young child is taken to his father’s shoulders under the magic spell of awe, the very epitome of rock n’ roll as he clenches his fist and triumphantly punches the air.

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

It’s been a spectacular evening with three bands of widely varying sounds and different nationalities but with one common thread; that of further enhancing their mellifluous output with a dramaturgic magnification. For those of a cynical disposition this can be easily dismissed as gimmickry to bolster a weak product. However, in the humblest of my opinions, this couldn’t be further from the actual truth. What we have witnessed this evening – whether it be wondrous costumes, super-polished choreography, or sheer aptitude in stage props – is the elevation of quality music to a Broadway or West End scale. Mountains are scaled and the flag of success is nailed to the peak.

CONCERT REVIEW: Sabaton Play Biggest Dutch Show To-Date

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

Heavy metal band Sabaton recently played their biggest show in the Netherlands, together with BABYMETAL & Lordi as part of their absolutely massive ‘ The Tour To End All Tours ‘ Tour.

Our night would start with the eccentric Finnish band Lordi , who are known for their over-the-top costumes and theatrics on stage. But, as it turned out, the wild theatrics and over-the-top stage show, the musicianship of the band was undeniable. The guitar riffs were razor-sharp, the drumming thunderous, and the basslines groovy and infectious. The lead singer’s vocals were exceptional and the crowd was already hugely present, even if Lordi was the first act to play.

Following Lordi , Japanese kawaii metal group BABYMETAL took the stage. BABYMETAL’s unique style has garnered them a large and dedicated fanbase both in Japan and around the world. They have performed at some of the world’s biggest music festivals, including Download Festival and Rock on the Range, and have shared the stage with notable metal bands such as Metallica and Slayer . BABYMETAL’s live show is a sight to behold, one of a kind, with focus on a dance choreography that blends metal with J-pop, all the while the musicians delivering heavy riffs and pounding drums. While the group only performed 7 songs, they have managed to feature 4 albums on the setlist, including the popular self-titled album, as well as latest effort THE OTHER ONE.

While it’s not necessarily relevant for fans of the band, it is important for us to note that Sabaton and their crew were one of the most friendly we have ever witnessed. The photographers got a proper and often humorous briefing from the tour manager, who also made sure they were well taken care of throughout the show. Big props on that front. Now, on to more pressing matters. Onstage, Sabaton delivered a high-energy performance that left the crowd of about 17.000 fans completely enamoured. From the opening chords to the final note, Sabaton brought their signature brand of power metal to life with confidence and precision. Fans were treated to a selection of classic Sabaton hits, as well as songs from their newest album “ The War To End All Wars .”

Sabaton’s stage setup at live shows is known for being epic and immersive. The band often incorporates military props as part of their stage design, adding to the overall theme of their music. This show was no different, with a tank, actors acting out various historical themes, gasmasks and the display of an aeroplane being featured on the stage throughout the band’s extensive set. They also use a lot of pyrotechnics and special effects to enhance their performance and engage the audience. Sabaton’s stage presence and energy, combined with their impressive stage setup, create an unforgettable live experience for their fans. The Amsterdam show lived up to fans’ expectations, with their largest crowd of 17.000 fans enjoying the aforementioned epic and immersive performance to date.

Check out some shots from all 3 bands on this fine night in the galleries below and make sure to catch this awesome bill on the road if you have the opportunity to!

Animated metal band Dethklok brings tour with Babymetal to the Masonic for two nights

By Dave Pehling

Updated on: April 24, 2024 / 5:39 PM PDT / CBS San Francisco

The popular death metal band led by Brendan Small, the creative force behind popular Adult Swim animated show "Metalocalypse," Dethklok comes to the Masonic in San Francisco for two shows with co-headliners Babymetal.

Arguably the second most popular virtual band behind Gorillaz (the animated group helmed by Blur singer Damon Albarn), Dethklok made their as the stars of "Metalocalypse" when the show created by Small and partner/voice actor Tommy Blancha debuted in 2006. The world biggest death metal band in the program's absurd and surreal alternate universe, Dethklok stands as the planet's seventh largest economy despite the fact that the group's members are idiotic incompetents incapable of doing anything besides writing and performing brutal metal songs.

The quintet of singer Nathan Explosion (who was inspired by Cannibal Corpse vocalist George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher), guitarists Skwisgaar Skwigelf and Toki Wartooth, bassist William Murderface and drummer Pickles live and work in their massive fortress-like home and studio Mordhaus, venturing into the world to secure lucrative sponsorship deals and play huge concerts for their legions of fanatical followers with outlandish stage theatrics like over-the-top pyrotechnics, lasers and a giant swinging pendulum blade, inevitably resulting in widespread death and destruction.

Over the course of four seasons and a special broadcast on Adult Swim, "Metalocalypse" became one of the network's more popular shows and a favorite among musicians, with such notable figures as King Diamond, Alice Cooper, Jon Hamm, Werner Herzog, Jack Black and members of Metallica, Exodus, Emperor and Mastodon appearing on the show. Dethklok further built on its fanbase with a series of studio albums featuring the satirical songs featured the show like "Murmaider," "Bloodrocuted" and "Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle." The band also delivered entertaining live performances with widescreen clips of the animated band projected behind Small and his talented band including monster drummer Gene Hogland (Dark Angel, Death, Strapping Young Lad, Testament, Devin Townsend) and former Frank Zappa collaborator Mike Kenneally on guitar.

Dethklok would make regular festival appearances and tour with the likes of Mastodon, High On Fire, Machine Head and the Black Dahlia Murder. After the broadcast of the hour-long rock opera special, "Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem" in 2013, the band continued to perform, but the project went on hiatus after the show was cancelled two years later.

The band returned to action in 2019, playing the Adult Swim Festival to ecstatic crowds. Dethklok also returned to the festival post-pandemic in 2022. The following year, Smalls was at last able to release the final chapter in the Dethklok story with the film Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar , which was accompanied by both a soundtrack and the band issuing its acclaimed fourth studio recording,  Dethalbum IV .

With the show having run its course, the band's current tour could be Dethklok's last hurrah as it takes to the road with previous touring partners and co-headliners Babymetal which stops at the Masonic for two nights starting Wednesday . A sensation in their native Japan since first forming in 2010, the group mixes elements of heavy metal with elements of J-Pop and "kawaii" -- the Japanese "culture of cuteness" as exemplified by Hello Kitty and Pokemon. Singer Suzuka Nakamoto had impressed producer Kobametal (aka Key Kobayashi) in her earlier girl groups Karen Girl's and Sakura Gakuin when he wanted to start a new band performing a heavier style of music.

Initially a successful offshoot of Sakura Gakuin, Babymetal became independent in 2013 and enjoyed growing popularity with the release of their self-titled debut the following year. Featuring Nakamoto along with fellow singers Moa Kikuchi (also a member of Sakura Gakuin) and Yui Mizuno executing synchronized dance moves and melodic vocals backed by a group of shredding metal session players known as the Kami Band, the album delivered a dizzying juxtaposition of sunshine pop and metallic crunch. The band rocketed to success in Japan and were playing sold-out shows to thousands when the girls were still in their teens.

The notoriety in their native land soon led to international touring in Europe and North America, with Babymetal appearing at major metal festivals and opening for Lady Gaga. By the time the band was set to release their sophomore album Metal Resistance in 2016, they were headlining Wembley Arena in London and the huge Tokyo Dome to 55,000 screaming fans. More high-profile support gigs with the Red Hot Chili Peppers followed.

While the band suffered some hardship with the accidental death of guitarist Mikio Fujioka late in 2017 after he fell from an observation deck and the departure of Mizuno due to health reasons the next year, Babymetal continued to tour and in 2023 announced the addition of Momoko Okazaki as Fujioka's permanent replacement. The band plays fan favorites and songs from its fourth album The Other One  at the Masonic. Opening acts on the two nights will be different, with hyper-technical British power metal band DrangonForce playing Wednesday and theatrical LA-based melodic death metallers Nekrogoblikon kicking off the show Thursday.

Dethklok and Babymetal Wednesday-Thursday, April 24-25, 6 p.m. $75.75 The Masonic

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic

The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

sabaton tour 2023 babymetal

The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.

The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.

For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. TVEL also includes Rosatom integrators for additive technologies and electricity storage systems. Rosenergoatom, Joint-Stock Company is part of Rosatom Electric Power Division and one of the largest companies in the industry acting as an operator of nuclear power plants. It includes, as its branches, 11 operating NPPs, including the FNPP, the Scientific and Technical Center for Emergency Operations at NPPs, Design and Engineering as well as Technological companies. In total, 37 power units with a total installed capacity of over 29.5 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia. Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC, Elektrostal) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fuel for nuclear power plants. The company produces fuel assemblies for VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600,800, VK-50, EGP-6; powders and fuel pellets intended for supply to foreign customers. It also produces nuclear fuel for research reactors. The plant belongs to the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom.
