New York Cruise Guide > Cruise Terminals

New York Cruise Terminals

There are 3 cruise terminals on the New York harbor: Manhattan cruise terminal, Brooklyn cruise terminal, and Cape Liberty cruise port. Combined they offer excellent options for cruise departures.

The Cape Liberty Cruise Port in New Jersey is a homeport for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises. It is very close to the Newark International Airport, which makes flying in a breeze.

The Brooklyn cruise terminal is a departure point for Princess Cruises and Cunard Line. The port provides ample room for big mega-ships to dock, and is not difficult to reach by cab from LaGuardia or JFK Airports.

The third cruise terminal is on the west side of Manhattan. Details below.

Manhattan Cruise Terminal

The Manhattan Cruise Terminal is located on 12th Avenue, between 46th and 54th Streets. This is the west side of Manhattan, a few blocks west of Times Square and a few blocks south of Central Park.

The terminal is in Midtown Manhattan, home of the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Fifth Avenue and more than we can list. Explore it for a few days before or after your cruise.

Click for directions to the New York cruise terminal . Drive up the 54th Street viaduct ramp to the receiving area adjacent to your cruise ship's berth. Signs identifying the ships are posted. Baggage will be received there by porters and taken directly to the ship. Passengers can then transit inside the pier to the embarkation desks of the cruise line to complete the boarding process.

There is parking on the roof of the cruise terminals.

Driving on and off of the island of Manhattan can be a real headache, so we don't recommend it. Taking an Amtrak train is a much better option because the train station is on Manhattan (unlike the airports) and it is close to the cruise terminal. Very convenient. There are three cruise ports in New York City:

Manhattan Cruise Terminal

Brooklyn Cruise Terminal

Cape Liberty Cruise Terminal NJ

See here which port will be used.

Most ships dock in Manhattan on the West Side; the passenger ship terminals are located off the West Side Highway (12th Avenue) and span several blocks of the West 50s. It is about a 15 minute walk from Midtown. This is by far the best location for cruise passengers.

Some dock at he passenger ship terminal located in Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood with nice views of the NY skyline. Taxis are your best choice here as there is little within walking distance. The terminal has very few facilities. For public transport use the MTA website. At night a taxi is recommended.

Parking in Brooklyn .

Royal Caribbean docks at Cape Liberty Cruise Port, on the New Jersey side of New York Harbor. See more details here .

Please click here to see all New York area airports and their ground transportation possibilities.

For Cape Liberty, choose Newark airport for the quickest and cheapest transfer (about $30 for a taxi) For the Manhattan terminal use either LaGuardia ($35) or JFK ($54) For the Brooklyn terminal use either LaGuardia ($35) or JFK ($48)

Parking is $35 a day at the Manhattan facility, $19 a day at Cape Liberty and $20 in Brooklyn.

Sightseeing:

New York! What an amazing place---exciting, inspiring, intriguing, even intimidating! But once experienced, this city's impact will never be forgotten! Its ranking as one of the world's most popular travel destinations is well-deserved. Travelers by the millions are drawn to New York, for there is something here for everyone. This is the home of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building, Wall Street and Madison Avenue and Time Square with its dazzling theater district. Here you will find the bright lights of Broadway and the tree-lined paths of Central Park, world-renowned museums and awe-inspiring cathedrals, quiet residential neighborhoods and bustling sky-scrapered streets. The United Nations, Rockefeller Center, Lincoln Center, Little Italy, Chinatown, Harlem-- the list goes on and on!  This small island is indeed a pulse-point of the world! Although it may seem impossible to see and do everything in this aptly nick-named "city that never sleeps,"

Downtown and Financial Districts

This part of New York has a little something for everyone. Here you'll see the Brooklyn Bridge, Trinity Church and St. Paul's Chapel, South Street Seaport, and the terminal for the Staten Island Ferry, City Hall, Battery Park, Castle Clinton. and Federal Hall where George Washington was inaugurated. This area is at the very heart of international finances. You'll walk down Wall Street, see the frenzied New York Stock Exchange and Mercantile Exchange, The World Financial Center with its beautiful Winter Garden, and Federal Reserve Bank. You'll see Bowling Green Park, where Peter Minuit traded $24 worth of goods for Manhattan Island, and you can rub the nose of the "Charging Bull" for good luck, just like Wall Street investors do. (It's a 7000-pound bronze sculpture that mysteriously appeared in Bowling Green Park in 1989!) Time permitting, you might even grab a burger at the only McDonald's in the world with a ticker tape from the New York Stock Exchange flashing across the main dining hall!

American Museum of Natural History

Gazing at the 36 million astounding specimens displayed here – from the mammoth and great dinosaurs of prehistoric times to a fragment of the oldest rock in the universe. The diversity of the exhibits is mind-boggling! If this isn't enough, there's also an IMAX Theater, other special exhibitions and programs, and - opening in April, 2000 – the Rose Center for Earth and Space with a new state-of-the-art Hayden Planetarium, the most technologically advanced Space Theater in the world. This museum is a must-see for everyone who visits New York!

The United Nations

Although you won't feel as if you've left New York when we enter the grounds of the United Nations, officially we will have entered an international zone where the land does not belong to the United States, but to all the countries that have joined the United Nations. It has its own police and fire forces, post office, and six official languages – Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish. So regardless of who you are or where you live, this is your organization, and its goal is to promote peace, preserve the environment, and create a better way of life for all mankind.

The Skyline

One of the most memorable attractions of New York City is the city itself! To get some perspective on the magnitude of this city, you have to see it from a distance. There are several great ways to do this. On a harbor cruise, using a Circle Line Boat or the Staten Island Ferry you can view this vast skyline from the water. For a "bird's eye view," nothing beats the panorama from the top or the Empire State Building. From the water or the air, you'll be amazed at just how big the "The Big Apple" really is.

Times Square, Broadway and The Theatre District

Until you've seen Times Square at night, you haven't really seen New York. Dazzling lights illuminate the area; pedestrians from every corner of the world converge; a cacophony of sounds from street musicians to taxi horns fills the air; dozens of theaters each present world-class performances; restaurants and shops beckon you to come and take a look. This general hub-bub of activity makes Times Square a place like no other. As the song suggests, "There's no business like show business," and there's no better place to experience it than Times Square.

Central Park

Central Park is an 843-acre green oasis in the heart of New York. Here you'll stroll along some of the 58 miles of tree-lined paths, or people-watch from the shady park benches. You're likely to see mothers with strollers, dog walkers, joggers and in-line skaters, impromptu concerts, and more. At the south end of the park there is a wonderful little zoo, Central Park Wildlife Center, and Wollman Skating Rink. Strawberry Fields (a tribute to John Lennon) and Sheep Meadow are on the west side of the park and are designated places for quiet meditation. New Yorkers and visitors alike enjoy this park as a welcome respite from the bustling city streets.

Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty, unveiled on October 28, 1886, was given to the United States from France as a gesture of friendship between the two countries, but it quickly became more than just a gift. With her torch raised 151 feet above New York Harbor, this phenomenal monument became a symbol of hope and freedom to the world. Even today the Statue of Liberty is an inspirational sight -- it is easy to imagine what those immigrants must have felt as they entered the harbor. After long, difficult voyages, Lady Liberty was there, welcoming them to America and beckoning them to their new home. Ellis Island was the gateway to this new home. With over 12 million immigrants passing through here between 1892 and 1954, more than 4 out of 10 Americans can trace their ancestry to this port of entry.

The Museums of New York

New York is a city of top-notch museums, but two that are absolutely overwhelming are the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the largest museums in the world and displays masterpieces from nearly all the world's cultures. With 5 million visitors a year, it attracts more people than any other site in New York City. MoMA (as the Museum of Modern Art is known) has the world's greatest collection of modern art, from Van Gogh to Monet to Picasso and more.

The official U.S. currency is the United States dollar (symbol: $). ATM's everywhere.

Major credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard are widely used and accepted, even for transactions worth only a few dollars. In fact, in some cases, it may be the only way to make a transaction. Note to overseas visitors: Prices of goods and services always seem lower than they really are, as taxes and gratuities are seldom included.

Most states have a sales tax, ranging from 2.9% to nearly 10% of the retail price; 4-6% is typical. Sales tax is almost never included in posted prices (except for gasoline, and in most states, alcoholic beverages consumed on-premises), but instead will be calculated and added to the total when you pay.

Tipping in America is widely used and expected. While Americans themselves often debate correct levels and exactly who deserves to be tipped, generally accepted standard rates are:

  • Full-service restaurants: 15-20% (Often this is the only income of the wait(ress). Tips are either left in cash or you can add it to the credit card slip) Note: Few restaurants add an automatic service charge, in which case it is up to you how much you tip extra. Check your bill!
  • Taxi drivers, hairdressers, other personal services: 10-15%
  • Bartenders: $1 per drink if inexpensive or 15% of total
  • Bellhops: $1-2 per bag ($3-5 minimum regardless)
  • Hotel doorman: $1 per bag (if they assist), $1 for calling a cab
  • Tour guides: Depending on tour length, size, and overall quality of guided tours; for half day tours or less $5-10 per person, for longer tours $10-20 per person.
  • Private car & limousine drivers: 15-20%
  • Housekeeping in hotels: $1-2 per day for long stays or $5 minimum for very short stays (optional)
  • Food delivery (pizza, etc.): $2-5, possibly more for very large orders

Communication:

The U.S. has no official language at the federal level, but English is by far the standard for everyday use. Several states have declared their official state language as English. Spanish is also official in the state of New Mexico, where it is widely spoken; French is official in Louisiana and the Hawaiian language is official in Hawaii, but neither approaches the use of English and are official for primarily historical reasons.

Emergency 911

Opening Hours and Holidays:

In major metropolitan areas like New York and Los Angeles, many drugstores and supermarkets are routinely open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, while department stores, shopping centers and most other large retailers are typically open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and often with shorter hours on Sundays - generally 11 a.m. or noon to 5 or 6 p.m. On holidays, the tendency is to remain open (with the exception of the most important holidays like Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day where stores are generally closed)

Port Transportation: Getting to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal Without a Car

If you are flying in for your cruise or just don’t want to deal with the headache and expense of dealing with parking your car, we have you covered.

The good news is that in a city with a mature transportation network like New York, you have a number of options in getting to the port. And if you’re overwhelmed with trying to get around the city, don’t worry, we’ll tell you exactly how to get to the terminal without dealing with driving.

As for convenience, it’s hard to beat transportation network companies like Uber and Lyft. By downloading the app, you can call a car on demand, anywhere in the New York/New Jersey area. So even if you are flying into Newark or staying outside the city proper, you can still get a ride.

Unlike most cities across the country, rates for Uber/Lyft are roughly in line with their taxi counterparts, but it does depend on where you are coming from and where you are going. For example, if you are flying (or staying) in New Jersey and sailing from Manhattan, then you’ll be charged extra for your car going from New Jersey to New York. Uber charges $20 for going between the two states. Lyft charges $15 for passing between the two states.

Still, it’s hard to beat the convenience and high service level associated with these services. Below, we’ve listed their estimated prices from the areas around town to the Manhattan port. (Note that the taxi fares include a customary 20% tip. Uber & Lyft prices do not. Uber doesn’t use tipping. Lyft makes it optional.)

If you think you want to take a rideshare service, you can read more details about Uber & Lyft here .

When you think of New York, one of the most iconic images is of a person waiting on the side of a busy street hailing a yellow taxi. With around 15,000 taxis in the city alone, they are a popular (and highly visible) way to get around.

If you are coming from an area airport to the Manhattan Terminal, then picking up a cab at the airport is easy as they all have taxi stations where you can hop in. Elsewhere in the city you can have your hotel call you a cab or simply go out and hail one like a local.

Rates are typically a little higher than rideshare services. We’ve listed estimated rates in the table above. As you can see, you’ll spend a little (but not excessively) more to take a taxi.

One suggestion is to take a cab if you are coming from JFK International. The taxis have a flat rate of $52 from the airpot to anywhere in Manhattan .

Cruise Shuttles

The two most frequent visitors to the Manhattan Terminal are Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Both offer shuttle service to the port.

Carnival has the most offerings of any cruise line we’ve seen in the area, with shuttles that will transfer you from all three major area airports. Prices are reasonable if traveling solo or as a couple, but you can still find a better deal with a cab or Uber/Lyft. Here’s a look at Carnival’s transfer rates. Note that rates a per person.

Newark Airport One Way: $31.00 Round Trip: $62.00 LaGuardia Airport One Way: $32.00 Round Trip: $64.00 John F. Kennedy Airport One Way: $33.00 Round Trip: $66.00

Norwegian Cruise Lines also offers a shuttle, but only between New York’s LaGuardia Airport. If you are flying into JFK or Newark, you’ll need to use alternate transportation. The fare is $40 one way, per person.

For a couple of reasons, we usually suggest going with another option than a cruise shuttle transfer. First, it is expensive if traveling with more than just one or two people.. The rates shown above are per person. So a family of four is paying $31 each ($124) just to get from Newark Airport to the cruise port, or $248 round-trip. Other options usually price based on the car, not the number of occupants.

Second, cruise transfers are extremely limited. In this case, they run only from area airports to the Manhattan Terminal… and only on the day of sailing. So if you come in early or are staying at a hotel in the area, then the cruise line transfer isn’t a viable option.

Independent Shuttles/Car Services

If you are traveling with a larger group to the Manhattan port, then your best bet is likely to look for an independent shuttle or private car service. These providers can offer private service to the port, usually for less per person than a taxi or other service, assuming you have seven or more passengers.

To be frank, the number of shuttles and car services in the New York area is extremely high. That means we can’t list them all here. Instead, we’ve rounded up a sample list of area companies to give you a good start to go from.

The prices quoted by these companies can vary widely depending on what sort of service you need and exactly where you are coming from. However, as a general rule expect it to be a better value the larger a group you need to transport. Be sure to shop around before selecting a service as it can save you considerable money.

One other thing to keep in mind is that the prices you are quoted won’t include gratuity, which can add on another 15-20% to your fare.

https://www.goairlinkshuttle.com https://www.carmellimo.com http://www.winstontrans.com/service_to_from_manhattan_cruise http://www.hyslimo.com/Content/Piers_and_Cruises.asp

Public Transportation (MTA)

If you want to use public transportation, the M50 bus runs east and west across Manhattan, along 49th and 50th Streets, dropping off right near the terminal. Bus fare is $2.75.

You’ll likely need to transfer to the bus from a subway, unless you are staying near the M50 bus route. Many major subway lines have a station on either 49th and 50th Streets, including the A, C, E, N, Q, R, B, D, F, and M. You’ll simply need to get off and then catch the M50 bus eastbound to the cruise port.

While cheap, riding public transportation can be a little confusing for first timers, and stressful when you are trying to carry your bags for a cruise. You can check out the information about the M50 route and riding the bus here to help you get your bearings.

I just wanted to thank you for the concise and seemingly complete info about travel from a New York airport to the port-of-departure for a cruise. I am a first time cruising person. As a Canadian, I was unsure about booking my cruise departure location. I was worried about arriving in “New York, New York” I am so very grateful that you have dispelled the myths about being unfriendly to visitors.

I’m sorry to have thought that I thought New York was an unfriendly place. Your website is full of very informative stuff that I thought was just for “the ‘insiders’- ‘only for new yorkers’, etc.” . New York city is seemingly, actually welcoming and understanding to visitors.

Thank you so very much. Beverly Miller

just got off NCL Star and the food was fine. It’s not as fancy as some but perfectly good and attractive. The service can be excellent or good but rarely mediocre.

My family has been thinking about going on a cruise this fall. So, I liked that you pointed out that when we get off the boat there are several different transportation options. Personally, I think that a large shuttle or car service would work with our family.

Don’t go Norwegian, you will have more fees than anything. THe food is like slop and service is mediocre.

Manhattan Cruise Terminal Parking: New York Port Guide

J. Souza

If setting sail on a cruise out of New York City’s bustling terminal in Manhattan is on your radar, and you plan to travel by car , knowing where to park is essential.

Planning ahead will help save you a lot of undue stress, and unnecessary expenses you could be spending elsewhere on your vacation, as parking in and around Manhattan is nothing if not costly.

To help you navigate the Manhattan cruise terminal parking, and the costs associated, we’ve complied a reference below of parking options, and anything else you may need to know to help make your search more effortless.

NYC Cruise Ports

Within the New York City district, there are three different major cruise ports to choose from:

  • Cape Liberty (located in New Jersey)
  • Manhattan (NYC)

For the sake of this article, we are going to focus on parking in and around the Manhattan cruise terminal specifically.

Related:  Hotels near the Manhattan cruise terminal

It is important to note that due to the size of Manhattan, there are quite a number of parking options available near the cruise port. We have included a handful that have had positive feedback from cruise passengers over the years.

Manhattan Cruise Terminal Parking

New York City skyline and Manhattan cruise terminal with cruise ship

If location or accessibility is your main concern, and cost is not, parking near the Manhattan Cruise Terminal may be the ideal choice for your party and could be worth considering.

This parking option is best for those with mobility limitations , or for those who may need handicap assistance at the terminal, as it is the closest to your destination.

You don’t need to worry about transferring to any shuttles, or obtaining additional transportation to the port, as you are already there. You simply drive up directly to the port, park your car, and then head over to board the ship.

And if you truly want the white glove service experience, they do offer valet , which would eliminate the entire parking process all together.

Parking Rates

As with most conveniences, this parking facility does come with an associated cost. As of 2023, the current rate for parking is $45 per vehicle, per night. This is not dependent on vehicle size, make, or model, which can be a plus for those traveling with larger sized vehicles.

Reserve Parking

Their parking system is based on a first-come, first-serve basis, however, you are able to reserve your parking ahead of time and on their website, which they recommend, as port parking does tend to fill up quickly, especially during the summer, and busier seasons (think, holidays).

MTP Manhattan Cruise Parking

MTP Cruise Parking is a parking garage with several locations scattered around New York City. However, the location you’ll want to secure is on 57 th and 58 th street, which is recommended for parking near the Manhattan cruise terminal.

This option is convenient in the sense that it is located directly across from the cruise port, so there is no need for shuttle service, or additional transportation system.

Another bonus is that because this option is a parking garage, your car is guaranteed to be located indoors for the duration of your cruise. The parking garage is well-lit and secure, so safety wouldn’t be an issue here either and there is plenty of parking due to the size of the structure.

The starting rate for parking at MTP is $45 per vehicle, per day. If your vehicle is oversized, they will be glad to accommodate for an additional $15 per day.

It is important to note that this option charges by the day, which will make your overall price higher than an option which charges nightly. This may be something to consider when making your final decision for parking near the Manhattan cruise terminal.

You can reserve your parking online in advance at ( parkwayparking.com ) by simply entering the dates of your cruise and searching for availability. You do not get to pre-select a parking space. Their website accepts most major credit cards, and you can pre-pay for parking to make your parking experience more seamless.

ParkRight Manhattan Cruise Parking

For those who prioritize saving money on parking, ParkRight proves to be a very convenient option without compromising on location from the cruise port.

Located on 43 rd street, ParkRight is just a few blocks from the terminal.

There are even porters available who can drop you off at the terminal in your own car, help you handle your luggage and then valet your vehicle back to their indoor parking garage. Talk about white glove service! This can eliminate the need for a shuttle, taxi, or securing other means of transportation to and from the cruise port.

You can reserve your parking for as low as $27 per vehicle, per day at ParkRight Manhattan. SUVs/larger vehicles are roughly $33 per vehicle, per day, but this cost may vary. Their white glove service (valet) is $35 in addition to the price per night. For payment, they accept all major credit cards.

ParkRight also offers promotions often for their clients, and these can easily be found online and used toward the overall price of your reservation.

To reserve your parking near the Manhattan cruise terminal with ParkRight Manhattan, simply visit their website and input the dates of your upcoming cruise sailing. They strongly suggest doing so in advance for guaranteed reservation of a parking space. You can make all your payments that are required online in a seamless transaction.

ParkJockey is a website that has partnered with several parking companies in and around New York City to provide cheaper rates for cruise passengers. Most out of state visitors often experience sticker-shock at how expensive it is to simply store their vehicle in Manhattan while on vacation – sometimes, just as much as the cruise itself.

You can visit their website at: parkjockey.com to learn more about the tools and functionality.  You can also use their app.

The parking rates at ParkJockey vary and depend on the location that you choose.

For instance, an option mentioned earlier, ParkRight, typically runs at a rate of $27 per day. However, if you were to reserve the same garage and compare prices, ParkJockey could reserve your parking at ParkRight for only $25 per day, with a savings of $2 per day. On a 7-day cruise, this is a $14 savings.

ParkJockey’s website is user-friendly, and they make reserving parking around the city less stressful, which is how a vacation should be!

To use their website, you simply enter your departure cruise port, departure date, and cruise ship. Their website will search the closest parking options, and lowest prices available.

Free Parking

It may come as a shock that there is such a thing as free parking in Manhattan, but its true! The question is, why wouldn’t all cruisers gravitate toward this option then?

Read on to find out why the most seasoned cruisers fork over the big bills and pre-plan their parking in advance, and you probably should, too.

“Free” Doesn’t Always Mean Free

In 2005, the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) lifted the ordinance that parking meters should be paid on Sundays. This just meant Sundays though.

So, in essence, street parking IS free on Sundays (and some holidays.. and sometimes between 2am-5am), but not any other day of the week. Since cruises aren’t exactly daytrips, this option won’t work out.

Failing to avoid paid meter signs can mean paying several hundred dollars on parking tickets, and even court time. If your car sits long enough, it may even be towed at your expense.

Spots Are Not Guaranteed

Manhattan may be large and have plenty of parking, but it also has plenty of people and plenty of cars (and probably with the same idea as you).

Just because you may know of an area with designated ‘free’ parking does not mean that you are guaranteed a parking space there. And since New York City is the city that never sleeps, you cannot plan to ‘arrive early’ to secure a space either. It’s all up for gamble, and with a vacation on the line, it’s not a gamble you should be willing to take.

If you’re unable to secure a parking space, and need to divert to your backup plan, this adds time to your travel plans. Every minute spent runs the risk of you arriving late to your destination, which in this case is your cruise ship. In the event you were unaware, the ship waits for no one, and will depart with or without you.

Final Thoughts

As evidenced in this article, New York City is bustling with not only people and places, but parking options as well.

When it comes to parking for your cruise departing from the Manhattan cruise terminal, your most convenient, although most costly option is parking directly at the port. It is best practice to make a reservation online ahead of time to secure a parking spot.

If cost is important to you, there are various other options to consider when visiting and parking at the Manhattan cruise terminal for your NYC cruise.

Subscriber only, travel | disney cruise line partners with japan company to add ship to fleet.

port of new york cruise terminal

The deal with OLC, which owns and operates Tokyo Disney Resort, calls for a sister ship to Disney Wish to be constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany for sailing expected to begin in early 2029.

While technically the yet-to-be-named ship will be the ninth vessel in the DCL fleet, it’s OLC that has entered into the construction contract, and will operate the vessel under a licensing agreement with Disney.

It would be the fourth Wish-class ship for the DCL fleet following 2022’s Wish, this year’s Disney Treasure and next year’s Disney Destiny. Wish will be joined by Treasure later this year with both sailing out of Port Canaveral while Destiny’s home port has yet to be announced.

New cruise ship Disney Treasure gets 1st taste of water

Disney is also set to welcome in 2025 the Disney Adventure, which is headed to Singapore.

The Japan deal expands on a relationship between Disney and OLC that is more than 40 years old. Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983 and OLC also operates the ocean-themed Tokyo DisneySea, which opened in 2001. Both theme parks falling within Tokyo Disney Resort, which has like Walt Disney World has its own monorail, entertainment and dining complex and hotels.

“Disney Cruise Line has ambitious plans to bring family vacations and Disney storytelling to more guests around the world than ever before,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, in a press release. “We are thrilled to continue the success of this expansion as we collaborate with Oriental Land Co. to introduce another distinctly Disney vacation experience to families and fans in Japan.”

The ship will be operated by OLC and be registered in Japan.

The Wish class are slightly larger than the Disney Dream and Fantasy with about 1,250 staterooms and a 4,000-guest capacity including children. The release noted the ship will feature many guest-favorite venues and experiences that can be found on Disney Wish “with select modifications specially designed with Japanese guests in mind.”

Disney Wish features the AquaMouse water coaster that is part dark ride, part tube run, a Marvel-themed restaurant and dinner theater venue themed to “Frozen.”

“I am sincerely proud that Disney and Oriental Land will be able to work together to create a world-class cruise business in Japan,” said Yumiko Takano, representative director, chairperson and CEO, Oriental Land. “Oriental Land will use their knowhow from the theme park business to continue pushing boundaries and provide family entertainment cruise experiences filled with inspiration and surprise.”

Disney’s first ship Disney Magic debuted in 1998 followed by sister ship Disney Wonder in 1999. Dream and Fantasy doubled the fleet with their debuts in 2011 and 2012 before the recent rapid expansion to double the fleet again with four new ships from 2022-2025.

The line also created a second Florida year-round home port taking over a cruise terminal at Port Everglades and this summer debuted its new Bahamas private destination Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story reported DCL had ordered the ship construction. OLC ordered it.
