First family trip to Ireland

First time traveling with kids to Ireland and the accomodations were great. The agency customized our trip and we did a self tour that was very easy to do. Highly recommend this company for taking care of the details and making a holiday stress free. I plan to use them again.

Date of experience : April 01, 2024

The trip was very well planned out

The trip was very well planned out. We very much enjoyed having tours/hotels/drivers arranged yet plenty of freedom to make other choices and not feel herded around as in a large group tour.

Great company to help design a custom trip to Ireland

My sister and brother in law wanted to travel to Ireland on our own without a formal tour because we wanted to visit the birthplaces of great grandparents. Irish Tourism popped up on a Google search. It offered several different itineraries, one of which suited our needs perfectly. All of our interaction with Linda Larkin was wonderful. Quick response, flexibility, lots of information. It was an excellent value traveling in early March, off season. And the suggested booklet of things to see and do was incredible. Packed with good ideas. The hotels were fantastic. A mix of B&Bs, 3 Star and 4 Star hotels. Loved them all. Directions were clear and succinct. It was a seamless experience. I highly recommend Irish Tourism

Wonderful Family Trip to Ireland

We had an absolutely wonderful family trip to Ireland thanks to IrishTourism.com. IrishTourism planned the trip for us and provided vouchers for hotels, trains, taxis, and tours that were easy to use. The hotels were fantastic and centrally located, the drivers arranged for us (from the airport to Dublin and from Killarney to Galway) were friendly, courteous, and knowledgable, and we are SO glad that we took the rail and did not drive. The tours were fun, friendly, and fantastic. It was a LOT of activity, but since it was planned out for us, we did not stress about it. Should we return (and we would definitely like to return), we will be using IrishTourism again. We highly recommend them.

10/10, would recommend

My experience was better than I could have imagined. Maria’s customer service was kind and understanding, I was very grateful to have her as our representative. Ireland was beautiful, we had great weather and almost no other tourists. I would not steer anyone away from visiting late Feb- early March just because of how private all of our tours and experiences felt. The itinerary for the trains that she gave us was most helpful, especially since we don’t commute by train often in the US. The information packet made it a breeze. This is the first trip where I’ve used an agency to book stays and excursions and I’m not sure I will ever travel another way again. Thank you for helping to make this trip an unforgettable one

Best of Ireland by Rail is a winner

After deciding to travel by train within Ireland, we connected with Maria Lieb just four weeks before our arrival date. She was friendly and accessible. By both phone and email, she advised us in finalizing our itinerary, customizing the 10-Day Rail Tour into 13 nights. She booked the rail legs, hotels and single-day coach tours, all of which were great. It was a successful and memorable experience all around. We'll use Irish Tourism again!

Wonderful Irish vacation!

Our Best of Ireland by Rail vacation was wonderful! We saw so much of the country, and visited so many beautiful and fascinating places! The trains were comfortable and the check-in process was simple. The accommodations chosen by Irish Tourism were perfect, within walking distance of the train stations and of places of interest and dining and pubs! Stephanie at Irish Tourism was so friendly and efficient, and made everything easy!

Highly recommend if you’re visiting Ireland!!

would highly recommend working with Irish Tourism! We worked with a travel agent, Stephanie, to build a unique itinerary that matched our budget, timelines and interests. Everything went off without a hitch and every hotel, means of transportation and tour was excellent. We encourage anyone headed to Ireland to work with them!

Linda Larkin at Irish Tourism was great!!!

Linda Larkin at Irish Tourism was amazing. She listened to what we were interested in and provided us a perfect itinerary. Every so we made that she arranged was ready to go and the accommodations were perfect. Having never been to Ireland, Linda shared insight and made for the perfect holiday with thoughtful ideas of places to go and things to do. Her itinerary ideas were thorough with insight into just about everything that we'd pass on our trip so we could decide what to see and where to go.

Amazing introduction to Ireland

We had a wonderful time and saw so much in our short 10 days. Tina chose great comfortable hotels that were easy walks from the train station as well as the town centers. Train travel is so relaxing and the ticketing process simple to understand. We had great drivers/guides for our bus tours who had many personal insights about the places we visited. We would not hesitate to book through Irish Tourism again.

Date of experience : September 03, 2023

Irish Tourism was fantastic

Irish Tourism was fantastic! We did a self-guided tour but they did all the planning. Tina was very responsive and made great suggestions. They booked hotels that were exactly what we requested in great locations. The itinerary they gave us was really helpful in planning our trip as we went. We even had to reschedule twice due to medical emergencies and Irish Tourism supported us both times without hesitation! We had such a great trip. Highly recommend them!

Amazing Trip!!!

The trip you put together for us was absolutely amazing! All the traveling and the rental car all went smoothly. We saw so much natural beauty and remarkable historical places. We met the warmest and nicest of people. We ate well and thoroughly enjoyed the B&Bs we stayed in. The hosts were all very kind and attentive. The couple we travelled with have already started talking about planning another trip back to Ireland. Thank you again for all you did for us, we truly appreciate all your efforts.

The location of the accomodations was perfect. They were all within walking distance of amenities. The suggestions for day trips were extrememly helpful. Everything was made very easy thanks to Irish Tourism - from picking up the car at the airport through our whole two week trip October 2023. Thanks!!

Maria is the best!

Maria did an excellent job of coordinating our travel schedules, hotels, and tours. The proximity of these made it easy to travel around Ireland. The vouchers and instructions were very clear and easy to understand. We found ourselves many times during our trip praising Maria’s thoughtfulness to detail. Our car driver Dennis was great going from Killarney to Galway by Knock. He was very attentive to us. The hotels Maria chose were great as well. When we return to Ireland the first thing we will do is contact Maria

10 Day Best of Ireland Rail Trip

We just came back from a fabulous 10 day best of Ireland rail trip organized by Maria. The planning process was stress free and we were able to modify it to our liking. Every detail was planned perfectly, we loved that the hotels were very central, and everything was within walking distance. The timing of the excursions and travel days was perfectly balanced with our free time too. Maria was always available to answer questions before hand, and help with some minor changes to the itinerary. I would highly recommend using Irishtourism to plan your Irish Adventure!

Linda did a fantastic job planning our journey and lining up the greatest places to stay for us. The arrangements were top notch, and all the venues were anticipating our arrival. The suggested sights to see helped much, and the car rental went off without a hitch. All in all, a wonderful holiday.

Roaming the Backroads of Ireland

April 2023, 7 days Dublin, Killkenny, killarney, the Burren. What made the trip was the choice and freedom to take our time. We had hotels, car, activities, reservations, sites mapped out in advance. All accomodations were first rate. Able to check in early. Full breakfast each morning. Irish tours extended every effort to help us fine tune the entire trip. Nothing like motoring from town to town, stopping at off the tourist spots. Thank you for a well planned holiday.

7 night Northern Territories Tour

Great tour company. Tina was my contact and she was very helpful, friendly and accommodating through the whole booking process. Initially cancelled due to Covid restrictions, we finally made it to Ireland in June 2023 with our deposit voucher in place. Tina was quick to get all accommodation booked and hire car in place. You are emailed a comprehensive booklet detailing good places to see on your route which was very helpful. Though do book early for the places you want to go. It’s busy all year round not just school holidays. My rating of 4/5 is based on a couple of our hotels. Although all were very friendly and clean, we were a bit disappointed with a couple of them. One hotel needed some major modernisation and one hotel was lovely but the area it was in wasn’t the best. Fortunately only one night in each of those and we were moving on the next morning after another hearty Irish breakfast. I’d definitely recommend Irish Tourism as a company to arrange your holiday with.

Purchased rail journey that included hotels, tours and train tickets which I was able to customize for our needs. I only had to research restaurants and other activities (i.e. whiskey tasting). Company was very responsive and there was no issue with any of reservations that the company made for us. Company provided us with a detailed itinerary and informational packet in advance of our trip.

The trip included everything we requested. Any issues were handled promptly and always professionally. Linda kept me well informed and personally contacted me immediately if something arose she perceived as a possible issue. We were traveling by train several times and took many tours. The instructions on the evouchers were clear and easy to follow. We had a wonderful trip and would highly recommend Linda and your agency to anyone. Well done !!!

Clampdown on short-term letting could have serious consequences for Irish tourism

Clampdown on short-term letting could have serious consequences for Irish tourism

A spokesperson for Airbnb claimed 'disproportionate' rules could hurt local families who rely on hosting to help make ends meet.

Irish tourism could be “badly affected” by new legislation clamping down on short-term letting across Europe, it has been claimed.

The Canary Islands, a popular getaway for Irish tourists, is expected to have a draft law passed this year toughening the rules on short lets following complaints from locals priced out of the housing market and from hotels facing taxes and sustainability rules skirted by companies investing in short-term rentals.

In recent days, an investigation was launched in Tenerife after a woman was reported for renting her building's rooftop in Tenerife as a campsite on Airbnb .

Authorities worldwide are grappling with similar issues: Canada, Australia and Italy are among many countries which have tightened the rules around short-term rentals to protect local communities.

Other parts of Spain have already passed similar laws, but without such an emphasis on law enforcement. Barcelona's 70 inspectors are sometimes accompanied by police, according to the mayor's office spokesperson.

The Canary Islands decided to toughen its rules after the number of short lets exploded in recent years.

El Cotillo, a former fishing village on Fuerteventura, has as many holiday home beds as residents.

Here, travel writer Eoghan Corry described the steps taken to tackle the short-term letting system as “interesting politically”, with the issue being passed over to the housing department, which has led the entire debate.

With special attention given to taxation and registration of these rental properties, Fáilte Ireland is looking to clamp down on unauthorised housing, much like Spain.

This clampdown can have serious consequences for tourism. Scotland, the first country to introduce the registration of short-term rental properties, ended up with just 15% of short-term lets registered, while the other 85% disappeared from the system.

It is believed this may have similar consequences for Ireland, with an average of 65,000 Irish properties on Airbnb and Verbo, that have yet to be registered.

What's your view on this issue?

You can tell us here

A spokesperson for Airbnb claimed "disproportionate" rules could hurt local families who rely on hosting to help make ends meet.

"The typical host in the Canary Islands shares their home for just 40 nights a year and one in three say the extra income helps them afford their homes and the rising cost of living.

"Airbnb has worked with governments across the world to balance the benefits of home sharing and housing concerns, and we support new EU rules that provide a model on how to regulate our industry effectively and proportionately," he said.

"There's absolutely no doubt that the workings of Airbnb and the workings of short-term rental across Europe is going to be disrupted by this process,” Mr Corry said.

“I suspect the number of properties on the market will be reduced by this,” he added.
