Tips on Finding Hawaii Vacation Deals

Facebook

Save time and money by booking your rental car, hotel room, and airfare together and make planning your vacation easier.

How to Find the Cheapest Vacation Packages

Understanding Hawaii’s travel seasons will make it easy for you to book an affordable trip to the Rainbow State. With summer and winter being peak travel times for the islands, you can find vacation deals by booking during the “shoulder” seasons—spring and fall. Fortunately, Hawaii is just as beautiful and magnificent during fall and spring as it is in summer and winter, so aside from the cost of travel, nothing will change about your trip to Hawaii.

Should You Book an All-Inclusive Package?

Planning a trip is, what we call in Hawaii slang “humbug.” It’s a bother, a nuisance—even stressful. But it doesn’t have to be. By booking an all-inclusive vacation package, the hard work is done for you. Cars are rented, hotel rooms are booked and it can be cheaper to book a package versus booking everything ala carte.

Best Areas to Stay on Each Island

While there are no bad choices for places to stay in the islands—you are in Hawaii after all—there are some areas that are very well suited for travelers. Waikiki on Oahu has a variety of accommodations, malls and restaurants all dotting the golden shores of Waikiki Beach. On Kauai, Hanalei and Poipu are perfect for visitors who want to be close to the beach during their island stay—and in a similar vein, Kaanapali on Maui is a perfect blend of resort luxury and island living that will truly make visitors feel like they’re in paradise. On Hawaii Island, also referred to as the Big Island, both Kona and Hilo will provide travelers with convenient accommodations, activities and dining options.

The Top 3 Hotels and Resorts on Each Island

  • Hilton Hawaiian Village
  • Turtle Bay Resort
  • Grand Wailea
  • Kaanapali Beach Hotel
  • Fairmont Kea Lani
  • 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay
  • Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa
  • Mauna Kea Beach Hotel
  • Fairmont Orchid
  • Hilton Waikoloa Village

On Oahu, the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort, Turtle Bay Resort and the Halekulani reign supreme. Maui’s Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, Kaanapali Beach Hotel and Fairmont Kea Lani are popular choices amongst travelers. For Kauai, the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, The ISO and the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa are stunning accommodations that will make it hard to even leave your room—while on the Big Island you can’t go wrong staying at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, Autograph Collection, Fairmont Orchid and Hilton Waikoloa Village.

Both Maui and the Big Island are great places for travelers looking to escape from their worldly distractions. Instead of waking up to traffic and city noise, on these islands, the soft sounds of birdsong and crashing waves will serve as your natural alarm clock.

Hawaii Travel Tips

You’ll want to hit the ground running—presumably to the beach!—once you’ve landed. Also be sure to pack a few jackets or hoodies along with your beachwear, as the islands typically has “passing showers” from time to time due to its tropical climate. Another major travel tip to remember is that, unless you’re staying on Oahu, you will absolutely need to rent a car to fully enjoy the best of each island, as public transportation options are limited on the out islands.

Hawaii vacations 2024 & 2025

A string of far-flung islands in the middle of the Pacific, Hawaii conjures up images of tropical paradises with soft, golden beaches, swaying palms and lei-wearing hula dancers. It’s all true, but at the same time there’s much more to this archipelago. Our specialists have explored beyond the obvious and can use their first-hand knowledge to help you plan a tailor-made vacation to Hawaii with a difference.

The powerful volcanic forces that created Hawaii’s islands are still felt today, from the bubbling lava fields of Volcanoes National Park to the black volcanic beaches, partially submerged craters and dormant volcanoes scattered across the six main islands: The island of Hawaiʻi , Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi. The coastline in some places is so distinctive that it has captured the imagination of Hollywood film-makers, and precipitous cliffs rise from the ocean like natural cathedrals. Tangled rainforest streaming with waterfalls covers much of the islands’ interiors, while offshore you can swim among coral reefs and look for humpback whales.

Useful information for planning your vacation in Hawaii

Hawaiian and English are the official languages of Hawaii. You may also hear Hawaiian Creole English spoken, which is often called ‘Pidgin’ locally.

The currency of Hawaii is the US dollar (US$). All major credit cards are widely accepted, and you’ll find ATMs in most towns.

In Hawaii, you should try traditional dishes such as poke (marinated fish), manapua (steamed pork buns), and Huli-Huli chicken (chicken marinated in a soy glaze). Hawaiian food is influenced by traditions from Polynesia, China, and Japan and you’ll find everything from fish tacos to poi (mashed taro), and kālua pua’a (slow roasted pork) to haupia (coconut cream with arrowroot) on local menus.

Fresh juices, pineapple iced tea, and lots of fruity cocktails are also on offer.

Tips of between 15-20% are expected for all bar and restaurant services and about the same percentage should be applied to taxi fares.

Hawaii offers powder-soft beaches, big surf, lush rainforests, active volcanoes, and abundant marine life. While here, you could hike through forested gorges, go whale watching, or see hot lava pour into the sea. You could take a helicopter ride over a smouldering volcano, hike along coastal trails, snorkel with manta rays at night , or take on some of the biggest waves in the world. You can also take in the poignant history of Pearl Harbor , go stargazing at Mauna Kea’s observatory or visit smaller islands to learn about traditional culture in small villages.

Hawaii offers a great range of places to stay, from sleek beachfront resorts with a choice of pools, restaurants, and water sports to more intimate guesthouses with local character.

Many hotels offer cultural activities such as lei-making and ukulele playing, or traditional feasts with music and dance. For five-star comfort in a secluded location, you could stay in a cliff-top suite overlooking the ocean or a beachfront villa or cottage. For something more intimate, you could opt for a traditional Hawaiian guesthouse , a rainforest chalet , or a secluded B&B . For more ideas browse out selection of places to stay in Hawaii.

Hawaii has six main islands, but most visitors go to Oʻahu, the island of Hawaiʻi, or Maui. Oʻahu is the most visited island, home to Hawaii’s capital, Honolulu, as well as the surfing hotspot of Waikīkī Beach, volcanic tuff cones, botanical gardens, and Pearl Harbor.

On the island of Hawaii , you can laze on soft sand beaches or visit coffee plantations in the west and explore an active volcanic landscape with hissing craters and smoking fumaroles in the east.

For tropical rainforest, scenic drives, black-sand beaches, and pristine reefs, Maui offers adventure and relaxation in equal measure. On Kauaʻi , you could sail along the dramatic Nā Pali coastline, while Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi offer a glimpse of traditional Hawaiian life and Polynesian culture.

Respecting local culture and customs, protecting the environment, and supporting local businesses are the best ways to travel responsibly in Hawaii. Hawaii’s magnificent landscapes are a major draw, but with high visitor numbers even small actions can have a negative impact.

When out hiking stick to the trails and follow the signs. This protects you from danger, respects ancestral lands, and ensures habitats around the trails are left undisturbed.

Dispose of your litter properly and consider actively helping by joining a beach clean-up, for example. Don’t feed wildlife and actively seek out insect repellent and sunscreen that won’t harm wildlife or marine life.

We can also help you choose stays and experiences that do good in the local community, from certified sustainable hiking tours to whale watching adventures that support vital research and education. You can speak to your specialist to find out more.

It takes around 11 hours to fly from the East Coast of continental USA to Hawaii and around six hours from the West Coast.

The time zone in Hawaii is UTC-10 hours. Daylight Savings Time is not observed.

The best way of getting around Hawaii is to combine car journeys with inter-island flights or boat trips. It’s easy to hire a car on the larger islands to drive between sights, but if you want to see more than one island you’ll need to fly or take an inter-island cruise.

US citizens don’t need a visa for Hawaii.

Your doctor is best placed to give vaccine advice for Hawaii. You should ensure you’re up to date with the recommended vaccinations for your home country.

US citizens don’t need a passport to visit Hawaii, just valid government photo ID.

In Hawaii, you should be aware of local customs such as aloha, which is a way of life rather than just a greeting. Aloha means welcoming people, being friendly, and treating people with respect. This can mean anything from greeting people with a smile and taking the time to talk to them to driving without aggression.

Hawaiian customs also respect the land and wildlife, so don’t take rocks off beaches, hike off-trail, or feed wildlife. Hawaiian lei (flower garlands) are considered a sign of love and respect, so don’t throw them away when they wilt. Instead, take them apart and put any natural elements back into nature and then dispose of any plastic elements properly.

Hawaiian culture is all about respect for people, the land, and wildlife. Hawaiians like to ‘talk story’, to stop and have a conversation, so slow down and chat to people. Don’t speed on the roads or honk your horn while driving, and don’t refer to the continental US as the mainland. To Hawaiians, the Island of Hawaii is the mainland. Call places by the Hawaiian names, and if you’re invited to someone’s house, bring a small gift or some food and remove your shoes before entering.

Temperatures in Hawaii range between lower 80’s in the fall/winter months and higher 80’s in the summer months (May-Sep). Hawaii has a tropical climate, but the temperature can vary depending on altitude and the surroundings. The islands receive most of its rainfall from the trade winds on the north and east sides of each island. The coastal areas tend to be drier, especially the south and west sides. The rainy season tends to be during the winter months of October to April. The overnight temperature rarely drops below 65 degrees at the lower elevations. On this tour, you may experience lower temperatures at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (in the 60s during the daytime).

You can find more on the weather in Hawaii here .

We recommend bringing a light jacket or sweater for the buses or flights. As well, please consider the range of temperature and climates you may encounter in Hawaii and pack clothing you can be comfortable in for each of them. Wearing layers allows you to be comfortable on the bus and while sightseeing.

Explore the Hawaiian Islands

Four Pacific jewels, as dazzling as they are different.

Hawaiian Islands cruise with more value

Why settle for seeing just one island on a Hawaii resort-based vacation when you can cruise in style and explore multiple island jewels? Sailing with Princess is a far better vacation value, and you’ll visit popular Hawaiian islands —  Oahu ,  Kauai  and the Big Island ( Hilo  and  Kona ) — without all the time-consuming hassle of island hopping by plane. From enriching  Discovery and Animal Planet shore excursions  to our immersive "Aloha Spirit" program onboard, you'll discover each island's unique charm — and fall in love with Hawaii's enchanting beauty.

Oahu (Honolulu)

The most populous of the Hawaiian islands, bustling Oahu  offers attractions for visitors of all ages. Our sailings feature a special late night departure from Oahu, so you can spend a full day seeing the sights, then revel in Honolulu's exciting nightlife. From iconic Waikiki Beach to the enormous Ala Moana Shopping Center to the glorious Iolani Palace and poignant Pearl Harbor memorials, there’s certainly no shortage of things to do in "The Big Pineapple" of Hawaii!

Once the favorite playground of Hawaiian royalty, great warrior King Kamehameha chose to make  Maui's  Lahaina his capital after uniting the Hawaiian islands. Explore breathtaking Haleakala National Park that boasts diverse volcanic and rainforest landscapes, plus a 10,000 foot tall dormant volcano. Or sail out onto the scenic waters off Maui’s sun-kissed shores and witness in awe as humpback whales frolic about.

When it comes to  Kauai , good things come in small packages. Despite being the smallest of the four main islands, Kauai is home to the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" Waimea Canyon, the lush Fern Grotto framed by Wailua River, and so much more. The stunning Na Pali Coast has served as the backdrop for Hollywood blockbusters, such as Jurassic Park and King Kong. With endless emerald landscapes, Kauai truly lives up to its nickname of "The Garden Island".

Nearly twice as big as all of the other Hawaiian islands combined, the Big Island ( Hilo and Kona ) is a paradise of black-sand beaches, tropical rainforests, and even snow-capped peaks at the soaring Mauna Kea summit. Feel the spiritual "mana" on a shore excursion in Waipi'o Valley, once the meeting place for Hawaiian kings and fabled to contain an otherworldly gate. At the famous Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, behold extraordinary lava landscapes and two of the world’s most active volcanoes.

The 8 best Hawaii cruises in 2024 and 2025

Donna Heiderstadt

Cruising the Hawaiian Islands offers U.S. travelers an immersive South Pacific escape with all the comforts of home. In fact, the Aloha State is in many ways an ideal cruise destination. It has year-round sunny weather, four main islands featuring varied topographies — including sandy beaches, cascading waterfalls, volcanic mountains and vibrant green valleys — and a wide array of land- and water-based activities.

The main caveat? Hawaii cruise options are somewhat limited — just a fraction of what's available in the Caribbean — and many itineraries involve multiday crossings from the West Coast. Only one cruise line offers Hawaii itineraries throughout the year; most others visit during specific months or when repositioning ships in spring and fall.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Looking for the Hawaiian Islands sailing that's right for you? Here's a look at the eight best Hawaii cruises for every type of traveler.

Norwegian Cruise Line's 7-night Inter-island Hawaii

hawaii trips 2025

For travelers who want more aloha time than the typical eight-hour port call allows, Norwegian Cruise Line has a solution. Its 2,186-passenger Pride of America lets vacationers sample four Hawaiian islands over seven days, with overnights in Maui and Kauai, plus port calls on both Hilo and Kona on the island of Hawaii. In total, this itinerary offers nearly 100 hours of shore time.

Pride of America sails round-trip from Honolulu every Saturday year-round. As a U.S.-flagged ship, it's the only large vessel permitted to sail this way. Not only do you skip the long Pacific crossing that most cruise ships do to reach Hawaii, but passports are not required for U.S. citizens, and you can tack on pre- or post-cruise stays on Oahu.

The overnights on Maui and Kauai also mean it's possible to try several of Hawaii's signature experiences that most port calls don't allow. Passengers can catch dusk or dawn from atop Maui's massive 10,023-foot dormant volcano with sunrise and sunset excursions to the Haleakala Crater. And with the ship in port all night on Kauai, guests who want to enjoy traditional Hawaiian cuisine, music and hula performances can book the Luau Kalamaku for a fun evening out.

Pride of America, which has been cruising Hawaii since 2005, doesn't have the onboard thrills (race track, virtual-reality gaming, waterslides) of Norwegian's newer ships , but that's okay because the islands, not the ship, are your main destination. Its American-themed decor celebrates U.S. cities in a vibrant, and at times, kitschy way, but a 2021 refurbishment left its cabins and public spaces feeling refreshed.

Many of Norwegian's specialty dining venues (which incur a surcharge) are on board, including Cagney's Steakhouse, Le Bistro (here, it's Jefferson's Bistro), Moderno Churrascaria and Teppanyaki.

Who should go: Anyone seeking a convenient way to island-hop — and see a lot of Hawaii — by making the most of the generous shore time with a combination of independent exploration and shore excursions. Most sailings attract couples ages 50 and older, although summer and holiday sailings have plenty of families on board.

UnCruise Adventures' 7-night Hawaiian Seascapes

hawaii trips 2025

Cruisers seeking a less traditional, more carefree Hawaii experience can have it from November to April aboard UnCruise Adventures ' 36-passenger Safari Explorer. The seven-night Hawaiian Seascapes itinerary, which begins either on Molokai or the island of Hawaii, is an unconventional one designed for those who enjoy going off the beaten path in an intimate and more authentic setting. U.S. passports aren't required to sail.

UnCruise visits four islands — Maui and Lanai plus Molokai and Hawaii — and focuses on not only their striking landscapes and underwater beauty but also the cultural traditions, cuisine and music of the Hawaiian people. On Molokai, where there's not a single traffic light and the lifestyle is slow-paced, passengers get a chance to "talk story" with locals and enjoy a pa'ina (feast) and evening jam session. Lanai activities range from snorkel, paddleboard and kayak excursions to off-road adventures exploring the privately owned island's dramatic sea cliffs, red rock formations and vast fields once filled with Dole pineapples.

Most UnCruise sailings are during Maui's humpback whale season, so sightings while cruising off the coast of Maui are possible. You might also catch glimpses of dolphins and sea turtles. A "Captain's Choice" day is a wild card determined by the weather, marine life in the area and other factors, while the final two days are spent exploring the Big Island of Hawaii — including a hike up Hualalai volcano and a skiff ride along the rugged coast.

Constructed in 1998, Safari Explorer was designed with adventure itineraries in mind (in summer the U.S.-flagged ship repositions to Alaska). Its size allows it to navigate areas larger ships can't reach, which in Hawaii means bays and coves ideal for snorkeling or watersports.

With such a small number of passengers aboard, guests get to know each other — and Safari Explorer's friendly and knowledgeable crew — quite well. Passengers come together over meals featuring locally sourced ingredients, and as all UnCruise fares include unlimited wines, spirits and microbrews, shipmates can raise a glass without worrying who's buying a round. It all lends itself to an exclusive yet utterly relaxed week of cruising.

Who should go: The ship's laid-back onboard vibe paired with its land- and water-based activities make the Hawaiian Seascapes itinerary ideal for active travelers seeking a nature-focused itinerary — although cruise fares (which start around $5,900 per person) are among the priciest for a Hawaii cruise.

Holland America's 17-night Circle Hawaii

hawaii trips 2025

Travelers who have more than two weeks to spare and who prefer to arrive in Hawaii via ship rather than an airplane can do so on Holland America 's 17-night Circle Hawaii itinerary. They'd better also love sea days because crossing the Pacific from San Diego or Vancouver to Honolulu and back requires 10 days.

That means passengers enjoy five or six days in Hawaii on Kauai, Oahu, Maui and the island of Hawaii. Some itineraries stay in select ports overnight. Cruises departing from San Diego also call on Ensenada, Mexico. With either departure port, passports will be required.

The itinerary is offered in 2024 and 2025 on the 2,650-passenger Koningsdam and 1,432-passenger Zaandam.

Travelers with more time on their hands can also visit Hawaii as part of longer Pacific island cruises with Holland America. Koningsdam will sail a 35-night Hawaii, Tahiti & Marquesas itinerary in 2025 that combines visits to four Hawaiian islands with calls on five islands in French Polynesia and Fanning Island, Kiribati (and 20 sea days).

Related: Holland America unveils epic cruise to Hawaii and Alaska for 2025

Zaandam will also sail 51- to 56-night Tales of the South Pacific itineraries that visit multiple islands in Hawaii and French Polynesia along with ports in the Cook Islands, American Samoa and Fiji.

Holland America is popular with cruisers ages 60 and older, many of them retired, who have time to enjoy longer itineraries on ships that offer good value with a focus on culinary and musical enjoyment. Two of Koningsdam's most popular venues are its live entertainment area with three venues — B.B. King's Blues Club (for Memphis-style rhythm and blues), Billboard Onboard (for chart-topping hits played by a live pianist) and Rolling Stone Rock Room (for a live band playing classic rock), and World Stage, a theater with a 270-degree screen used for both special BBC Earth in Concert and theatrical productions.

Onboard specialty dining options (at an added cost) include Pinnacle Grill for steaks and seafood, Tamarind for Pan-Asian cuisine and Rudi's Sel de Mer for French Brasserie specialties and seafood.

Who should go: Mature travelers who prefer not to fly and who enjoy a more traditional cruise experience. They should also love sea days as much (or even more so) than port exploration.

Princess Cruises' 15- or 16-night Hawaiian Islands

hawaii trips 2025

Princess Cruises is also a good option for longer sailings. The cruise line offers numerous round-trip itineraries to Hawaii from Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego in the fall and winter.

The majority of sailings are aboard the 3,080-passenger Crown Princess and Ruby Princess from San Francisco, and the 2,600-passenger Grand Princess and 3,080-passenger Emerald Princess from Los Angeles.

Ships are in port for nine to 11 hours in Hawaii (Hilo), Kauai and Maui and for 16 hours in Oahu. Itineraries include a stop in Ensenada, Mexico (so passports are required), plus nine or 10 sea days.

The ships feature many of Princess' popular dining venues, including Alfredo's Pizzeria (a sit-down venue serving personal-size pizzas), Crown Grill for steaks and Sabatini's Italian Trattoria. There's plenty of outdoor space for soaking up the sun — including an adults-only sun deck — and a dazzling Piazza for enjoying cocktails, gelato and pop-up street performers.

Fans of Princess' Movies Under the Stars poolside screenings (with free popcorn) and Discovery at SEA enrichment programming will have ample time to enjoy these perks on a Hawaii sailing.

Who should go: These sailings will appeal to couples or groups of friends who prefer to have a wide choice of sailing dates, can take the time to enjoy a leisurely Pacific crossing and appreciate Princess' focus on quality cuisine and a sun deck designed for relaxation rather than thrills.

Travelers seeking modern interior decor on a ship designed with couples in mind can visit Hawaii aboard Celebrity Cruises ' 2,852-passenger Celebrity Solstice or 2,918-passenger Celebrity Edge on itineraries ranging from nine to 13 nights — but only if the timing is right. That's because the line offers only two sailings per ship each year (in spring and fall) as the ships reposition between Alaska and destinations in the Pacific. The itineraries are one-way (Vancouver to Honolulu or vice versa) with passports required.

These cruises call on three ports on two islands: Honolulu (Oahu) and Hilo and Kona (Hawaii), with one or two overnights in port and 10 hours ashore on one-day visits. All include five days in a row at sea. Since the itineraries either begin or end in Honolulu, there's also a chance for some pre- or post-cruise exploration.

Sea days offer opportunities to enjoy the chic, grown-up ambience and amenities aboard these ships. Each vessel offers multiple complimentary and extra-fee specialty restaurants. Celebrity Solstice features Tuscan Grille for Italian specialties and steak and Murano for modern French cuisine, while Celebrity Edge offers the whimsical Le Petit Chef and the international Eden Restaurant.

Celebrity's signature Martini Bar and many other onboard watering holes keep the grown-up vibe going day and night. Choose cruise fares that include alcohol and Wi-Fi, or pay a lower rate and pay for your drinks as you go.

Who should go: The slightly shorter one-way sailings and the ships' contemporary ambience make these itineraries ideal for couples and groups of friends seeking a relaxing escape — especially Gen Xers in their 40s and 50s, who are Celebrity's target market.

Carnival's 14- or 15-night Hawaii from Los Angeles

hawaii trips 2025

If fun is your cruise mantra, the "Fun Ship" brand Carnival Cruise Line offers a handful of round-trip sailings to Hawaii from Los Angeles (Long Beach) aboard the 2,984-passenger Carnival Radiance. Like other roundtrips from the West Coast, these itineraries spend just five days in Hawaii, offering eight to 14 hours of shore time in ports on four islands: Maui, Kauai, Oahu and Hawaii. Along with enjoying eight sea days, guests will also call on Ensenada, Mexico, so passports are required.

Carnival Radiance first sailed under that name in 2021, but it's not a new ship. Before an epic makeover, it sailed for the cruise line as Carnival Victory. Ship features include many of Carnival's signature complimentary and extra-fee dining venues, including Guy's Burger Joint and Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse, BlueIguana Cantina, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse and Bonsai Sushi Express.

Additional guest favorite destinations on board include the RedFrog Pub, Alchemy Bar and WaterWorks aquapark. Expect high-voltage theater shows from Playlist Productions at night and poolside interactive contests by day.

Who should go: Socially inclined cruisers who love Carnival's emphasis on onboard fun and can appreciate a colorful ship with a lively ambience and lots of day and evening activities.

Royal Caribbean's 9- to 13-night Hawaii Cruises

hawaii trips 2025

A megaship cruise experience to Hawaii is available, too — with pricing that's quite affordable. Royal Caribbean cruises there on two vessels in one of its newer classes of ships: the 4,180-passenger Quantum of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas.

All are one-way cruises just before or after the Alaska cruise season (so late April or early October) between Oahu and Vancouver (or vice versa). The ships call on two Hawaiian islands and spend four or five days in a row at sea. Passports are required since these itineraries begin or end in Vancouver.

Ovation of the Seas and Quantum of the Seas feature a mix of thrills for all ages. These include RipCord by iFly simulated sky diving, FlowRider simulated surfing, bumper car racing in the SeaPlex indoor activity complex and the North Star sightseeing capsule, which ascends 300 feet above the top deck for 360-degree views.

Both ships also offer 14 dining venues, including the innovative Wonderland, Jamie's Italian by Jamie Oliver and kid-favorite Dog House, as well as bar options that include Schooner Bar for by-request piano tunes, Boleros for mojitos and merengue and Bionic Bar for drinks poured by robotic bartenders. Entertainment includes live cover bands in the Music Hall and multimedia music and dance performances in Two70.

Who should go: Cruisers who love a big ship with a wide array of dining choices, all kinds of evening entertainment and plenty of exciting activities to pass the time on sea days. Quantum-class ships are great for families, but the sail dates might not work for those with school-age kids.

Viking's 16-night Hawaiian Islands Sojourn

hawaii trips 2025

For a guaranteed adults-only sailing in a relaxed, boutique-style setting, upscale cruise line Viking also offers round-trip Hawaii cruises from Los Angeles in late 2024 and early 2025 on its 930-passenger Viking Neptune.

What sets Viking apart from most of the other lines offering Hawaii cruises is that it includes a free shore excursion in every port. These include a highlights tour of Honolulu and Pearl Harbor on Oahu and a visit to a scenic waterfall and the Kilohana sugar plantation on Kauai. Additional excursions can be booked at an extra charge.

The 16-night Hawaiian Islands Sojourn sailings visit four islands — Hawaii (Hilo), Oahu, Kauai and Maui — and like other round-trip sailings from the West Coast include 10 sea days and a call on Ensenada, Mexico, so passports are required.

Viking Neptune will also do 32-night Grand Hawaii and Polynesia sailings round-trip from Los Angeles in late 2024 and early 2025 that visit four islands in Hawaii and four in French Polynesia.

The ship, which debuted in 2022, features sleek Scandinavian-inspired decor, a soothing spa with a complimentary thermal area, an aft infinity pool and hot tub, a panoramic Explorer's Lounge and five onboard restaurants. Specialty restaurant Manfredi's serves an extensive menu of Italian specialties, while The Chef's Table offers rotating five-course themed menus, including Asian, French and California-inspired.

In addition to the free shore excursions, pricing includes complimentary wine or beer with lunch and dinner, specialty dining at no extra charge, crew gratuities and transfers.

Who should go: Couples who prefer the quieter ambience of a ship that doesn't allow anyone under 18 onboard, doesn't have a casino and offers presentations by regional experts that enhance immersion into local culture. Viking cruisers are generally over age 55.

The Costco Traveler Blog

Oahu on a budget: 5 things to do for free, adding value to your hawaiian vacation, natural hawaii, more about hawaii.

Discover the differences between these majestic islands and choose your paradise.

Hawaii Island is the largest of the islands and sits at the southernmost part of the chain. A temperamental youngest sibling of the family, this island is full of drama, adventure, and natural beauty. Explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, tour a local coffee plantation, stroll seaside villages, travel back in time at Puukoholo Heiau National Historic Site, and stand at the southernmost point of the United States where nothing but ocean separates you from Antarctica.

Kauai is the oldest of the islands and keeps watch over the others from the northernmost point of the chain. With age comes beauty and the dramatic landscape of Kauai reflects this sentiment. Hike Waimea Canyon and gaze at the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, trek the Koloa Heritage Trail for a glimpse of the past, visit local botanical gardens for their tropical treasures, tour cascading waterfalls, and helicopter out to the Na Pali coastline for the ultimate vantage point.

Maui is the second-largest island and just to the north of Hawaii Island. Known for famous beaches and championship golf courses, Maui delivers an experience filled with magic and beauty to visitors. Witness an awe-inspiring sunrise at Haleakala, snorkel with sea turtles at Molokini, stroll the eclectic shops in Lahaina and witness a ceremonial cliff dive at Black Rock.

Sandwiched between Kauai and Maui is the bustling island of Oahu. The most populated in the chain, Oahu offers a unique blend of modern and ancient influences. Transforming the southern coastline is the city of Honolulu while monster waves rule the northern coast. Reflect on U.S. history at Pearl Harbor, stroll through the pineapple maze at the Dole Plantation, hike the Diamond Head crater for unobstructed views of Waikiki Beach, visit the new International Market Place, and watch big wave surfers tackle the Banzai Pipeline.

There is indeed an island for every personality. Find your Hawaii, find your paradise.

  • To make it easier to replace your passport if it’s lost or stolen, in addition to your passport, take a photocopy of your passport information page (keeping it separate from your actual passport).

GO CHASING WATERFALLS

Hawaiian cruises.

Experience Aloha with a cruise to Hawaii.

Just the word "Hawaii" conjures visions of turquoise waves lapping at colorful sands, a rich historical tapestry that's as Polynesian as it is American and a welcoming culture you can distill into a single word: Aloha. Once you arrive, trace the history of Pearl Harbor on Oahu, where you can tour battleships and see the memorial to that fateful day in 1941. Cruise to Hawaii and head to the Big Island to scale volcanoes like Mount Kilauea and chase waterfalls on the slopes of Mauna Kea. Or enjoy the sun and surf on the remote shores of Kauai and Maui. Discover the magic with a Hawaiian cruise.

Hawaii Rainforest

LET ADVENTURE FLOW

Hawaii offers some of the world's best in outdoor exploration. The best Hawaii cruises allow you to trek through the lush Hana Rainforest, or enjoy a more volcanic experience on the Big Island. Marvel at the lava flows of Kilauea, or savor the coffee that grows in the soil made fertile by millions of years of eruptions.

Hawaii Beach With City View

HIT THE BEACH

Hawaii is a group of islands with hundreds of beaches. Do you cruise to Oahu and hit Waikiki — where the people-watching is as good as the tanning — or to the scenic Napali Coast of underrated Kauai? Decisions, decisions.

Hawaii Forest Waterfall

RAINFOREST BATHE

Hawaii offers a tropical twist on the hip travel hobby called "forest bathing." It's all the rage among spiritually minded travelers these days and a great way to see nature close. Hike to Rainbow Falls on the Big Island, or through the lush Hana Rainforest on Maui.

Hawaii Volcano

PAL AROUND WITH PELE

The volcano goddess Pele takes many forms in Hawaii. Hawaii is the United States' most volcanic state, but your experience doesn't have to be death-defying. Daredevils will want to get up close and personal with the active lava flow of Kilauea, but you could instead hike up Mauna Loa, which is extinct.

Honolulu Iolani Palace

DIVE INTO THE CULTURE

Hawaii might look like a postcard, but it's more than just a pretty face. Your Hawaii cruise will let you counterbalance naps on Waikiki with a tour of the USS Missouri at Pearl Harbor or a visit to Iolani Palace, the residence of Hawaii's royal family.

Hawaii USS Arizona Memorial

MONUMENTS OF THE PAST

No trip to Oahu is complete without paying your respects to the victims of Pearl Harbor at the USS Arizona Memorial. However, there's a lot more to Hawaiian history. You should also learn about Hawaii's Polynesian heritage at Honolulu's Iolani Palace, the former home of the long-ruling Kamehameha dynasty.

Kona Coffee from Hawaii

GET TO KNOW YOUR MORNING JOE

When imagining Hawaiian beverages, you might think of a fruity drink with an umbrella, but the state is the only permanent coffee producer in the U.S. Head to the Big Island to tour the plantations where the good stuff is grown, from famous Kona Coffee to craft producer Mount Thunder.

Polynesian Cultural Center

WALK IN THE WAYS OF OLD

Hawaii's Polynesian past is still palpable today. On Oahu, check out the Polynesian Cultural Center, where you can tour six different recreations of traditional villages. Watch a Polynesian dance, play ancient games that have been handed down through the generations, and learn the old ways of fishing without a net.

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO Hawaii Cruises Insider

Hawaii is ideal to visit 365 days per year, whether you're looking to laze on a beach, explore the rainforest explorer or scale a volcano. However, prices and crowds increase when kids are out of school and during Christmas and New Year's.

With warm weather year-round, Hawaii is one of the U.S.'s sunniest states. The rainy season goes from November to March, but don't worry too much about the weather during these months; it isn't a constant monsoon — there's simply a greater chance of showers.

Looking for a more remote Hawaiian getaway? Kauai's Napali Coast is renowned but surprisingly uncrowded. If you dock in Kauai, you can drive along the seemingly hidden Napali Coast. Even in Maui, which has become more popular, "secret" beaches (and red ones, like Kaihalulu Beach) provide respite from the crowds.

The Culture of Hawaii: History & Folklore

What is Hawaii's historical background? Who was Hawaii’s First King? Enjoy a tour guide tailored to you on the culture of Hawaii & its island folklores.

Plan some slower days during your trip to jibe with the leisure-loving locals. The phrase "island time" isn't a joke.

Don't discount mainstream destinations like Oahu's Pearl Harbor and Kilauea on the Big Island — they're popular for a reason!

While some best practices (like not walking too close to volcanoes) are obvious, be aware of lesser-known laws. For example, it's actually illegal to hike Honolulu's popular Haiku Stairs.

CUISINE POI, PORK, AND POKE

Seafood is an important part of the Hawaiian diet, but there's so much more to enjoy. Visit Hawaii and prepare for a feast like no other, with nods to Polynesia, Japan and even the American heartland.

Hawaii Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl

Poke bowls are a great way to enjoy Hawaii's renowned ahi tuna. Ahi tuna has become famous all over America, most commonly seared and added to Asian-style salads. The best way to sample this Hawaiian favorite, however, is in bowl form. There are several varieties of poke, with modern versions substituting avocado and spicy mayo for classic accompaniments like seaweed and rice.

Polynesian Pork Plate

POLYNESIAN PORK

Is there any meal more Polynesian than a whole, roasted pig? Vegetarians have plenty of choices in Hawaii, but this isn't one of them. After cooking for hours over an open flame, this tender meat is plucked off the bone and plated, or sandwiched in a Hawaiian roll.

Hawaii Taro Root Poi

POI, THE TASTY PASTE

Taro root is a common food in the Asia-Pacific region, but usually not in the U.S. — outside of Hawaii, at least. The purple paste known as poi is a puree of this much-loved root vegetable, and it pairs well with other Hawaiian staples, such as the aforementioned Kalua pork (dip it!) and fresh fish.

She has enjoyed most of the crafts using a needle and thread of some sort to include embroidery, appliqué, needlepoint, pulled thread and drawn thread work. Debbie has been quilting over 35 years, pattern designing for 15 years and teaching/lecturing for 20 years. She has been featured on national television as well as online classes. Debbie’s most recent endeavors have been in the world of fabric and fiber dyeing of all kinds but most specifically Shibori and Indigo dyeing. In order to learn to try and master the shibori and indigo dyeing techniques to the best of her abilities, she has studied under some of the most prestigious artists in Japan, England and the US. She will never be a master shibori artist or indigo dyer but loves the entire process. In order to learn from the original masters, Debbie has traveled to Japan for two extended trips for study. She has been taught how to pleat, fold and stitch for Katano shibori. On her last trip she was very fortunate to see the art by Mokohiko Katano. Debbie has studied with a master katazome dyer. While in Japan she was taught all methods of shibori except itajimi. At home in her studio Debbie does all the necessary and very time-consuming stitching, folding and wrapping of the fabrics. She then dyes the fabrics in natural indigo vats. After the fabric is finished, it is sent to Japan to a mill owned by Japanese people and is reproduced to the highest standards. In 2019 Debbie visited the mill owner in Kyoto. Debbie is very impressed with the kindness and gift of sharing that she has experienced from the Japanese people. Japan is a beautiful county with inspiration everywhere and thoughtful and caring people. She hopes to return to study more. We all hope you will enjoy the fabrics. Debbie loves traveling to teach and speak for guilds and shops around the country. She dyes and sells items to wear and decorate with and is thrilled and honored to be a part of the Moda Fabrics designer family. Debbie also loves the art of jewelry making, especially working with sterling silver and vintage elements. She searches for vintage elements wherever she travels. She is excited to meet you on our Hawaii journey!

Dana Michele (Wild Fire Designs) Alaska

Dana had the fortune to grow up in her grandparent’s fabric shop, the Kenai Fabric Center, since I was 10 days old in Kenai, Alaska. Growing up in that creative environment has really shaped her life. Art classes were always my favorite subjects in school and over the years I’ve worked in various media including, painting, photography, wheel-thrown ceramics, silk screening, fresco, fine art restoration and of course various techniques in sewing and quilting. I began my college career studying art history and restoration in Florence, Italy, but finished up with a BA in Anthropology from the University of Alaska Anchorage. While in college she worked part-time at my family’s quilt shop and found that I was pretty good at making samples, particularly those involving raw-edge applique techniques. This was also when I began my love affair with batiks, which have always reminded me of watercolors. After graduation I worked in the local museum and tribal archive for many years, but continued to help my family make up samples for their store. In 2007 I decided to try making a design of my own. At that time there weren’t any designs with caribou available, so that was my first subject – to fill that gap for Alaska quilt shops.  In late 2010 I had my first opportunity to work directly with Hoffman California Fabrics using some of their floral prints. Since that time I have exclusively used their batiks and prints in my designs. Their batiks are of the highest quality and perfect for the raw edge applique technique I use. In 2016 I was fortunate enough to design my first Signature Batik collection with Hoffman, and I am currently working on new Hoffman Collections.

2025 Hawaii Cruise Classes

hawaii trips 2025

We are shaking things up in the quilt cruise world. Now – you may choose how you cruise by signing up for classes or open sewing time.  Having a dedicated room just for those who want to sew as they wish opens up a whole new sea of possibilities.  Come relax and sew your days away during our incredible Hawaii quilt cruise getaway.  We are providing top of the line Bernina machines on this cruise as well as a Bernina machine expert so you don’t even need to thread your own needle!

Everyone will sign up for workshops at the same time, giving everyone the same opportunity to choose their favorites.

Workshop registration: Detailed class request forms will be emailed to all those who have signed up as quilters.  You should receive these request forms by September 15, 2024. You will be able to select one class each at sea day.  A full day open sewing workshop will also be offered on each at sea day.  Space is limited.

Don’t delay in booking, this cruise will sell out quickly – we have had many requests for this itinerary.

There is a minimum number of participants for each class just as there is a maximum number of students we can take in a class. We are allowing for social distancing in the classrooms so our maximum number is not what we have had in the past.    The machine provider asks that NO MACHINE QUILTING be done on the provided machines.

Don’t despair, you may take as many or as few classes as you like when they are offered – OR you may sew in our dedicated sewing room, the choice will be yours.  Your only limitation will be class  or open sewing # of seats size (the number of students per class). Please understand, all class requests are sent out at the same time, we cannot hold classes for anyone prior to that date.

Log Jam – 1 day class

Log Jam: Easy Piecing, Big Impact

It’s great to have one pattern in your bag of tricks that uses big patches so the fabric’s design can be fully appreciated! Log Jam is a 63″ x 72″ throw that comes together quickly, and its generously-sized format packs a punch. If your cutting is done before class, you may get the top sewn in one day! Choose a color recipe of one, two or three colors and bring lights, mediums and darks that work together as detailed below.

  • 18 dark background fabric strips cut 3½” x WOF (width of fabric)
  • 18 medium and light fabric strips for outer logs cut 3½” x WOF
  • 18 dark, medium and light fabrics cut 3½” x 13½” for innermost logs
  • Binding ⅝ yard
  • Batting 71″ x 80″
  • Backing 4 yards Pattern required, available in class: $12

Basic sewing supplies and notions:  Pins, rotary cutter, small cutting mat. Square rotary ruler 6½” x 6½” is helpful for trimming.

Asterisk – 1 day class

Asterisk: Looks Hard, Sews Easy!

These blocks are more fun than should be legal! There has never been a more enjoyable, more addictive design. Karen Griska engineered these easy blocks to look complex.

Learn the technique and then combine the blocks into a smashing design of any size you choose. Asterisks make a great scrap quilt, or you can choose a more controlled color recipe. Several ideas for color combos are shared. Also learn about value, scale and texture. A day of pure sewing bliss!

Each block takes two contrasting fabrics: one square scrap 7″x7″ and one strip 1″ x WOF . Do enough pre-cutting for about 15 blocks. Be sure to include darks, mediums and lights. Each pair of fabrics should be very different from each other so the Asterisk shows up clearly against its background.

Asterisk can be completely scrappy or you can control the scrappiness by using a recipe like all blues or all reds. You could also choose two colors and use only those in darks, mediums and lights. Don’t stress too much over the fabric choices, just bring what you’ve cut and we’ll dig right in. I’ll bring some things to share with you!

Bring: Pins, rotary cutter, small cutting mat. Square rotary ruler 6½” x 6½” is helpful for trimming.

Pattern Required $12

UFO Bonanza: Solve Your Project’s Problems  1 day class

Twenty years ago, someone suggested a UFO class so quilters could get help with their problems on unfinished projects. I’ve been sharing it with filled-up classrooms ever since. Bring any UFOs (that’s quilter-language for UnFinished Objects) you’d like to jump-start and move toward a finish. Whether it’s lost pattern parts, faulty instructions, a technique beyond your skills, fabrics you hate or simply lost motivation, in this workshop you’ll get the help you need to restart, reinvent or reimagine your quilt and advance toward the finish line.

  • Bring up to three UFOs you’d like help with.
  • Bring the pattern if you still have it, and all the parts and pieces of the project you can find.
  • Bring any fabric you bought for it, and if possible, a few additional fabrics that roughly coordinate with it.
  • Do you have any orphan blocks or parts that might be combined with your UFO? Bring them too.
  • Bring a sense of adventure and a seat belt because this can be a wild ride! A ridiculous amount of fun!

Tango: Fun, Easy, Scrappy Adventure  1 day class Easy piecing has never been so entertaining! The extraordinary Tango features graphic blocks that look hard but sew easily. This is a great stashbuster, and you can use precut squares if you like. Learn about value, contrast, line and scale—ideas you can apply to all your future quilts.

And…SURPRISE! This method yields bonus half-square triangles to use in another project. We will cover many ideas for how to create with them.  It’s like getting two-for-one!

Guidelines and Supplies 1. We will start a throw-size Tango quilt  2. Choose a color theme for your quilt. It can be one, two or three colors, or it can be a theme like Christmas or autumn.

  • Bring 50 10″ squares of fabrics that fit into your theme. These should be mediums and darks. You can have 50 different fabrics, or as few as 10 fabrics. You’ll like it better if you have more! Select all different kinds within your color scheme: florals, geometrics, plaids, stripes, dots. Bring lots of variety. Dig into your scrap bags, leftovers, and uglies.
  • If you’re unsure about something, bring it along and I will help you!
  • 2¾ yards of a light neutral print to contrast with the fabrics above such as white, cream, tan or light gray. It could be a light color like soft blue or pink. Think of this as your background. Pre-cut this into 96 squares, 5-1/2″ x 5-1/2″
  • Bring 50 10″ squares of lights and mediums in your theme.
  • 2¾ yards of a dark neutral to contrast with the above fabrics: charcoal, blackish brown, navy, etc. Think of this as your background. Pre-cut this into 96 squares, 5-1/2″ x 5-1/2″.
  • This technique generates enough bonus units to make a baby quilt or to start another project which can be something completely different from this one. Class includes ideas!
  • Basic sewing supplies: fabric shears, scissors, pins, neutral-colored thread.
  • Basic cutting supplies: mat, ruler, rotary cutter.
  • One ruler should be at least 15″ long, OR Fons & Porter quarter inch seam markers, extra long, you’ll need the 18″; one.
  • Important: A mechanical pencil and a white-lead mechanical pencil if your fabric is dark on the wrong side.

StarQuar Scrap Quilts: Endless Ideas  1 day class

Cut scraps into one useful patch size and make blocks without any fuss at all. Let Diane Harris of Stash Bandit show you the secrets to great scrap quilts! Learn a fast and simple way to turn your scrap stash into a gorgeous starry sky—and so much more! Any fabrics work into these quilts beautifully so you can use leftovers or your most favorite fabrics. Concepts include value, contrast, color, scale, difficult prints and more plus many ideas for using these units in a variety of ways. You’ll catch a vision for how diverse fabrics can work together and become something much greater than the sum of their parts. StarQuar scrap quilts could not be more fun!!! Skill level: Confident beginner and beyond.

Supplies 1. Scraps of any and all lights, mediums and darks, minimum size 2½” square blocks; bring a few hundred squares. I will also have precut scrap packs for sale in class, use these instead of or in addition to your own scraps. 2. Marking tools: regular mechanical pencil and a white mechanical pencil 3. Small ruler (at least 4″  long) for marking (square, rectangular or half-inch wide is fine) 4. Sharp fabric shears (no longer than a 4″ blade) 5. Rotary cuter, ruler (4½”; x 18½”; is great for travel) and small cutting mat

Important Preparation: These blocks are all made from just one patch size: 2½”x 2½”. Before class, cut your scraps into 2 1/2″ squares. You can also cut up fat quarters or yardage or Jelly Rolls, but variety is the key! You can choose a color scheme or you can use all the colors together. I recommend using everything to get started!

Good to know: It takes a total of 6 squares to make one StarQuar unit. I often use 3 of one color and 3 of a different contrasting color. All 3 squares do not have to match exactly. In class I will show you how I iron and cut my scraps to save time.

Learn an easy and reliable method for binding your quilts with this technique that looks as pretty as a hand-sewn finish.

You’ll practice all the steps in class and leave well-equipped to bind your next quilt in a fraction of the time. Now you can finish a quilt more quickly and still be proud of the edges. This binding method is fast, sturdy and beautiful. Suitable for all skill levels. In a related technique, learn to apply Magic Binding, which features a small flange of a contrasting color. Easy to do and looks amazing.

  • Two fat quarters of any quilting-weight cotton fabric for practice quilt “sandwiches.”

  • Two rectangles of cotton or cotton/wool blend batting about 11″ x 19″. No polyester batting as it’s too puffy.
  • ½ yard of any quilting-weight cotton fabric for binding.
  • One strip of a quilting weight cotton fabric in a contrasting color, cut 1¾” wide by the width of the fabric.

  • Rotary cutter with fresh blade, a rotary ruler 4½” x 18½”, small rotary cutting mat.

Important Preparation: Cut each fat quarter in half so that it’s about 10″ x 18″. Layer fabric, then batting, then fabric using #1 and #2 above to make a practice quilt sandwich. Repeat with the other fabric/batting/fabric set for two practice “quilts” to bind.
Attach walking foot to your sewing machine. Quilt a big X over both practice sandwiches. Then quilt around the sandwich edges, about ½” in from the outside edge. Square up the sandwiches as needed.
Cut 4 binding strips from #3 above, 2-1/4″ x width of fabric. If you know how, join end to end with diagonal seams. If you don’t know how to do that, I will show you in class. Cut 1 binding strip from #3 above, 1½” x width of fabric.

Intro to Improv: Night Lights and Beyond   1 day class

Get your head around improvisational patchwork in this exciting workshop with Diane Harris, scrap quilt specialist. Learn the basic idea behind improv, which is a fancy way of saying you make it up as you go! Understand how a few guidelines will keep things flat and stable as you unleash your creativity to make something completely unique.

We will begin with stars and then expand to include other familiar blocks. Class will be a challenging day of relaxing fun. Fair warning: Improv patchwork is addictive!

The quilt we’ll use as inspiration is Night Lights. You may create something as small or as large as you like. In the workshop, you’ll gain confidence to make several styles of stars and then see how other common blocks can also be improvised. And together we’ll explore how to make everything fit together into a flat and quiltable top for a great finish.

We will also talk about the unusual borders of Night Lights and I’ll show you how they’re made Other concepts we’ll cover include value, contrast, color, scale, density and composition. More than anything else, my goal is for you to fall in love with improvisational piecing and have the confidence to go forward on your own and make something you adore.

Supplies 1. Fabric: Improvisational piecing takes more fabric than traditional piecing because some trial and error is involved. Decide what color your background will be. Gather 12 fat quarters or a sack of scraps in this color. My backgrounds were all lights but darks like navy blue would be gorgeous. From across the room, they should all read as a similar color and value. 2. Stars: Gather bright and happy prints and solids from your stash or scrap bag. Some should be at least 6″ square for star centers. Most of the prints should be small in scale and should contrast with (be very different from) your backgrounds. A dozen fat quarters will get you started. You’ll make more than stars: buckle up! 3. Rotary cutter, small mat and several rulers small and medium. 4. Basic sewing supplies: Straight pins, sharp fabric scissors. 5. Border and binding: Wait. 6. I will bring scraps to share, which always makes it more fun! 7. A sense of adventure is helpful. Required pattern and instructions: $15

Dancing with My Baby – 1 day class

Alaska and Hawaii share a special bond being the two States not connected to Mainland USA.  Although we are opposites in many ways, we frequent each other’s homes often; Alaskans migrating south in winter, and Hawaiians migrating north in the summer.  This same migration happens each year for the Pacific humpback whale that spends the frigid winter months in the warm Hawaiian waters, and migrates north to Alaska each summer to cool off.

Jellyfish Bloom – 1 day class

I absolutely love watching Jellyfish gracefully dance around at aquariums.  They are such incredible creatures and mesmerizing to witness.  That is unless of course it’s on the beach where you’ll want to watch out for that sting!  Jellyfish bloom attempts to create that gentle peace you can find watching these creatures swim, but those little fish better watch out!

One of the most fascinating creatures in the ocean is the octopus.  I just love watching these creatures swim and reach for objects; their tentacles tightly gripping onto whatever they want.  They are both monstrous and beautiful, and continue to be an inspiration to me and a favorite to feature in my ocean themed designs.

Seagulls – 1 day class

Seagulls get a lot of slack from people, but a day at the beach wouldn’t be the same without their calls.  Although they can be a nuisance to some, they are a permanent feature of ocean life and really quite beautiful birds.  This one is sitting atop a post with another ocean themed favorite, the Japanese glass buoy.

Hawaiian Florals: Plumeria

For me the thing that takes me back to Hawaii in an instant is the smell of plumeria.  These have always been my favorite flowers in Hawaii.  When the plumeria trees are in bloom, the smell of them permeates the wind and the combination of ocean salty air is one of the best fragrances in the world.  This design was made for our cruise to celebrate my favorite Hawaiian flower.

Along the Shores: Sandpipers – 1 day class

My mother loves sandpipers, and when I designed the Along the Shores batik line I knew I would have to include these little birds for her.  As I researched the many different types of sandpipers in Alaska and beyond I found the Western Sandpiper to be my favorite because of its cute round little body.  They are found in Alaska in the summer, and winter all along the Pacific coast, occasionally visiting Hawaii.  Just like a true Alaskan.

Hawaiian Florals: Hibiscus

Often if you think of items that represent Hawaii the hibiscus flower will be one of the things that come to your mind.  These flowers come in a rainbow of colors and are found everywhere.  Depictions of them are placed on everything from beach towels, to clothing, surf boards and tattoos.  As Hawaii’s State flower, the hibiscus holds its role well representing the beautiful Hawaiian Islands.  This design was made for our cruise to celebrate Hawaii’s most famous flower.

Frequently Asked Questions – Cruises

  • General FAQ’s
  • Cruise FAQ’s

World of Quilts Travel offers cruises and/or tours with something for everyone. It is Deb’s goal to provide something unique, showing you a different side of travel while sharing her love of quilts, textiles, traditional crafts and culture.

Our adventures are specifically designed for those who have similar interests and provide a fantastic opportunity to make new friends and share this unique experience with like-minded travelers of all ages.

Below are some answers to frequently asked questions about our trips. If you have any questions which are not answered here or on our FAQ pages for our Tours or Cruises please don’t hesitate to email and I will be happy to get back to you as soon as I can.

When the terminology “quilt tour” is used, I suppose it does conjure up the vision of ladies and gentlemen traveling to work on quilt. However, quilts and/or textiles are the passion that often brings the group together, and there is not always an active quilting component on every group.

The purpose for the experience varies from group to group. I have groups of quilt and textile historians that travel to see historic pieces while other groups travel to shop for exotic and hard to find fabrics. Still, others travel for the fellowship with those who share their enthusiasm. It seems that when one exists, often the actual quilting project is not as important as spending time with others who have a built in connection through quilts and quilt-making.

How often they travel often depends upon their economic and family situation. I have some clients who have been on many of our trips, others who travel with me once a year, and some who look at a single tour as a way to a brief respite from the ordinary.

Outside of providing value in a quilt and textile related vacation experience, inspiration is the key essential on any trip; this is found in many ways. Quilters and textile enthusiasts are often inspired by landscapes, museum visits, quilts and textiles they see, by sharing with each other and the bonds they make with their fellow travelers. While the focus of any itinerary is inspired by quilts, a theme is often important in terms of how local quilt-making customs or historic textiles relate to the community that is being visited. One activity that most everyone looks forward to is any opportunity to shop for unusual or locally produced fabrics that will further inspire their quilt-making once they return home.

On our quilt history tours, for those who are historians, I feel it is important to include visits to historic archives and provide unusual opportunities to see antique quilts that are not often available for public viewing. An essential element for me then as a quilter as well as a quilt historian is to have a professional relationship with my colleagues within these institutions as this often opens doors to archives where we would not otherwise have access.

I believe it is helpful when the planner is knowledgeable about quilts and spends time with quilters in areas not surrounded by travel. As a quilter, show judge, appraiser and author, I spend a lot of time around quilts and quilt-makers. This helps me know their special interests and my tours are planned specifically around these things; they are not tours planned and then marketed to those who make quilts. In order for them to produce results, I have noticed a number of “quilt tour” providers that have hired a guest quilter to accompany a land tour group. Many times, this may seem like a benefit to the traveler, but, just as often, an additional cost is added to the tour in order to pay for the famous named guest who is coming along. I will not burden my travelers with those types of additional charges. If I feel that having such a guest would benefit a group or the overall tour experience, I will have one, but it is not a factor I often consider.

It is also important to have knowledge of class and workshop limitations. When planning actual quilting classes the planner should be aware of time constraints, materials and the facility suitability to the project.

I believe my most popular destinations to date have been Ireland, France and Bali, each for different reasons. The beauty of Ireland speaks for itself and we enjoy many scenic vistas along our way. Additionally, we stop at quilt shops up and down the Emerald Isle.  Often, we’ve been compared to an “Irish Quilt Shop Hop”. France is known in history for its contributions to both the fabric and quilt world, and Bali for its exquisite batik fabrics and special culture.

Our most popular cruises have been the ones that go to Alaska, the European Christmas Markets or international destinations such as the Baltic or Asia.

The most popular activity by far is shopping. I try to plan tours that not only offer rewarding textile experiences but also provide a truly memorable experience. Most of my travelers choose a destination they have always wanted to visit.

As a quilter and travel enthusiast, I plan each tour as if I am planning it for myself or my family. I take every stop into consideration. It sometimes takes weeks or longer to create the perfect itinerary. To me, travel is about the total experience as well as providing a good value and I do all that I can to keep the travel experience affordable. I am not a large travel agency; all of my group travel experiences are simply about quilts and textiles.

When selecting a quilt tour or cruise provider, it is important to note there may be others who promote quilt trips that will happen to coincide with their other special-interest group tours. While it might be a fun group I believe that it might be surprise for a group of 10 quilters to find themselves sharing a motor coach with poker players (this has happened). This would be a convenient way for some to fill a coach, but I do not mind keeping my groups small. I find when everyone in a group shares the same passion, bonding is almost instant. Always ask your quilt tour provider if they are promoting the same tour or cruise to any other type of hobby or interest group.

I promote quilt related travel simply for the joy of sharing the world of quilts and textiles with others. I love to travel – and what better way is there to see things than with others who share similar interests.

Our travelers are of all ages and from all parts of the world. They share a passion for quilts and quilting, textiles, arts and crafts, and share a desire to connect with the lives and cultures in the places they visit. Many who travel with us are first time travelers, while others have done a lot of travel in the past but are looking for something unique that they can’t organize on their own and/or enjoy the company of others with the same interests. The age group of our tour participants ranges from around 35 to 85 years of age but we have had travelers from 13 up join our groups.

Yes absolutely – although we focus on quilts and textiles there is always something else for those with other interests to do or see. In general, about 20 – 25% of our groups are companions in this category. We always have husbands who come along, so if you want to bring yours, chances are he will not be the only one.

While Deb does provide a variety of visits, hands-on classes and workshops they are not mandatory. This is your vacation; you may do whatever you like. While the activities are designed for every level and many are purely for fun and interaction with the local people, if there are any activities that you don’t want to do – just let us know and we will suggest alternative activities for you or you may adventure out on your own.

Some of the tours do have periods that require active walking and a few may feature extended coach or train rides (greater than 4 hours) We have found that most people of normal fitness and mobility are able to participate fully. Those who may have difficulty walking may participate at a level comfortable to them. Please see our terms and conditions regarding health issues. Because we are not aware of any individual’s health condition, we do ask that you receive an okay from your health practitioner to participate on any of our tours.

Our groups are a mix of single travelers, couples and friends. If you are a solo traveler and wish to share with someone we will attempt to find someone else on the tour who wishes to share a room. If there is no one wanting to share the only difference in your cost is that of the single room supplement that we pay to our hotels or you may choose not to participate with a full refund of your deposit.

Yes, we provide travel protection through several suppliers. On your trip web page, a link is provided to the travel insurance coverage which will also provide you with information about the insurer. You may choose to purchase travel protection through us, or from any provider of your choice. There are many online travel insurance options available to you.

No, we provide it as an option to you, or you can purchase it from any travel insurance provider. However, because unexpected things do happen, we strongly suggest that you have coverage.

Yes, your deposit is completely refundable (less a $100 administration fee, $200 administration fee if on a Viking Cruise) if you change your travel plans and cancel up to 45 days prior to the final payment deadline. Please refer to our terms and conditions for additional tour or cruise refund rules.

Final payment is approximately 90 days prior to the beginning of any cruise or tour. You will receive an invoice by email about 30 days prior to the deadline.

You may pay with a personal check (if you reside in the US), money order, cashier or bank check (if you reside outside of the US) or, you may use PayPal or Google Pay. Please note, the quoted tour price includes a 3% discount for those paying in by check. Those who choose to pay through PayPal using a credit card will not receive this discount.

You may still sign up for the trip after the final payment deadline, providing there is still space available. We will need your payment in full at the time your register however.

You are required to have a passport valid for six months past your tour date for trips outside your country of citizenship.

Most of our tours do not require special immunizations, but some do. Your health care provider is the best judge as to what you may need for your trip. To guide you as to possible immunizations suggested for your itinerary, please refer to http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel.

I am hoping that some of these answers to frequently asked questions about our cruises and cruise events will help you learn more about our programs, if not, please feel free to ask your questions by emailing me at [email protected] and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

We suggest that you register as soon as you know you want to join us. Many of our cruises categories (sometimes including the entire ship) sell out quickly and we have disappointed would be travelers.

We only use cruise lines that have universally high ratings and are also “quilter” friendly, in that they allow us to hold classes and related events without much restriction. Generally, we use the following cruise lines: Princess, Holland America and on river cruises we utilize the services of Viking

Yes, whenever they are required for a project, we provide them. We use a variety of dealers, Bernina, Janome, Brother, etc. Not familiar with the machines? No worries as we also provide technical support for the machines during the entire time that machines are in use. You will never even have to thread a needle or wind a bobbin on one of our quilting cruises, our support technicians are always there to assist you in any way so that you have an enjoyable experience.

Yes, we provide ample open sewing time each evening and at other times when class is not in session. During this time you may work on anything you wish, including  Make-it/Take-it projects or demos when they are offered.

We offer inside, ocean view (window) and balcony cabins. If there are suites available to us, we will offer these as well. We will book you in the best available cabin in the category you choose – guaranteed. If you would like to request a certain cabin you may, however, it may not be in our block or it may outside of our pricing category. If this is the case we will do what we can to get you the cabin of your choice for the additional cost of the cabin. However, the reason we like to ‘guarantee’ you the best cabin in a category rather than make a choice on a particular cabin as this gives you a better chance of receiving a complimentary upgrade. If you would like us to try to book a particular cabin for you, please indicate this on the registration form.

As our cruises leave from departure ports from all over the world and our guests also come from many areas, it is impossible for us to arrange a group flight for cruises. However, this also allows you to fly when you want and from where you want at the best price you can find. It is also a way to use your airline miles or points. We will notify you as soon as we know that our cruise is a ‘go’ so that you may look for the best airfare that suits you. If you would like us to book your air for you, upon request, we are happy to do this, just let us know. We will also arrange transfers between the airport and the ship when you select the appropriate box on the registration form. If you do not wish to make your own air arrangements, we are happy to assist you.

Cruise lines generally runs buses the day of the cruise for a fee which will be a choice for you on your registration form. If you are coming in the day before, you will need to find your own transportation to the hotel and cruise terminal. Many hotels offer free transportation from the airports.

We ask that you plan to arrive no later than 12 noon on the day of your cruise departure, the earlier the better. Please take into account that there may be flight delays and book your flight so that you have an alternative should this occur.

On the day of embarkation, cruise lines suggest not booking flights that depart before 12 noon.

Frequently we will include a pre-cruise hotel option and this will be indicated on the cruise information page or the information will be sent to you in a separate email. Otherwise, we can provide the name of suitable hotels for you to make a reservation.

Once we receive your registration, we book you with the cruise line and email you your booking number. From here, you may go onto the cruise line website to review and book your shore excursions directly with the cruise line. Wherever possible, we will arrange custom shore excursions to suit the interest of the group. When we do this, this will be indicated on the cruise web page or included in a special email.

If you are a quilter, in addition to the cruise, your cruise includes onboard quilting parties and events, workshops and sewing machines are included in the price. If a teacher has a kit or a required pattern and there is an additional fee the cost will be payable directly to the teacher. Information on kits or other materials, including price, will be listed on the website where class information is available.

To be certain of what we do include, everything that is indicated on the individual cruise itinerary pricing page and is listed as ‘included’ is covered by your quilter cruise cost.

About 90 days prior to departure, we will send out a class enrollment form by email. You will choose your classes and submit the form to us any time after this date. Classes will be filled on a first come first serve basis. Most get their first class choices, rarely does anyone not get their first or second choice.

Cruise ships offer several dining options. Except for dinner, these are very flexible. Unless a sponsor of a cruise requests that everyone dine together, we request flexible (anytime) dinner dining for everyone. This way, you may eat when and where you want, even in the dining room where you will have the same menu as those who participate in an early or late dinner service.

Cruise ships will indicate how many formal or gala nights they have on a cruise on their own registration pages. We will try to indicate the formal nights on our cruise event calendar, however they are subject to change, and frequently cruise lines do change this night sometime during the cruise. Changes such as this are out of our control. The number of formal nights differ for each cruise line and cruise itinerary. Formal or gala nights are optional, meaning if you do not wish to dress in what is referred to as cocktail or formal attire, then you may dine somewhere of your choice other than the main dining rooms. For those wishing to join the Formal Night dinner festivities, we suggest that ladies bring a pair of black pants and a dressy top or cocktail dress. For men, a jacket is minimally required.

Cruise lines will automatically charge a set amount (around $13-15 a day per person) to your shipboard account to cover tips for your room steward and dining room staff. Once the cruise begins, you are free to make an adjustment to this amount at any time by submitting a form that the ship’s front desk will supply.

There are coffee farms and tastings between Puuhonua o Honaunau and Kona . Car is safe there at Bay View Farms or Greenwell.

If you are fit, Kilauea Iki hike in VNP is a real treat. Otherwise there are overlooks and the rim trail is pretty level. Read about trails and see summit area map on VNP website.

Puako Petroglyphs are great. Car is pretty safe because the beach park lot is maintained by the resort. Don't leave stuff in sight and take anything that it would be a disaster to lose with you. You will be gone 45 min to an hour.

The Laupahoehoe train museum is worth a stop if it's limited hours meet your travel time. Much history on the sugar cane production and island development.

Thanks. I think I will add to my stops.

You can visit KaLae without jumping off the cliff. It is the southernmost point in the whole US, which has an allure for me. Whatever state or county I'm in, I like to get to the furthest north, south, east, or west.

For calculating Hawaii trip costs, this post will outline pricing for two adults and two children between the ages of 6-11 , traveling from the east coast of the United States in the summer months , and spending 5 nights each on Oahu and the Big Island of Hawaii , for a total of 10 nights, 11 days.

These islands were chosen because they offer the common introductory Hawaiian experiences: Oahu is home to Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head, and the North Shore, while the Big Island of Hawaii has a laid-back vibe perfect for relaxing, and is home to six of Hawaii’s nine national parks including the best options for volcano viewing and hiking. You can use this guide to pick the best Hawaiian island for your family.

I have organized the costs of a trip to Hawaii by airfare, car rental/transportation, accommodations, food, and activities , including tips and ideas for savings in each category. If you want to skip to the bottom line, a summer trip to Hawaii for a family of four for 10 nights costs approximately $16,690, or about $417.25 per person, per day. But read on to see how this breaks down and where you can save money.!

Cost of Airfare to Hawaii

Note that this post contains affiliate links. If you click a link and make a purchase, I may receive a small commission.

The biggest cost differentiator when purchasing flights is whether your family is flying from the west coast of the U.S. or somewhere else (midwest, east coast, etc.) Expect to pay around $865-1,300 per person traveling from one of the east coast hubs in the summer months, while flights from California may be $700-900 in the summer.

Honolulu on Oahu has more flight connections to and from mainland U.S. airports than any other Hawaiian airport, so that is typically the point of arrival or departure. To maximize your vacation time, be sure to price out flying into Oahu and out of the Big Island (Kona is the largest airport on the Big Island) or vice versa.

This will save you another inter-island flight back to your initial destination for your return flight. If you choose Maui as your second island, you can often find direct flights from Maui to many U.S. cities.

Another huge cost savings can be gained by flying mid-week if at all possible. Flights in and out of Hawaii jump up in price on Saturdays and Sundays since it is primarily a leisure travel destination, not a business location.

Flight prices are also dependent on the time of year. The festive period, Thanksgiving week, and popular spring break weeks will price out similarly to summer dates, if not more. January and February are typically the cheapest time to fly to Hawaii if you have the flexibility to get away then.

For inter-island flights (like connections between the Big Island and Oahu), Hawaiian Airlines and Mokulele are your best bets. Hawaiian Airlines will feel similar to a full-service airline, and importantly, you can use or earn points on most of the major U.S. airlines like Delta and United when booking flights on this airline because of their mutual affiliation.

Mokulele is a typical low-budget airline. Expect limited service and no frills, but it certainly works and there can be significant cost savings, given that it is a very short flight time.

Prices for an inter-island flight are usually under $60 per person for a one-way flight and most flights are less than one hour in length. Do take note of flight departure times, though. It’s always best to schedule these inter-island flights for mid-day, so that your family is in the air between check-out time at one hotel and check-in time at the next hotel. Early morning departures may be a little cheaper, but then you’re stuck filling several hours before you can check into your next accommodation.

Be aware that Southwest Airlines does offer direct flights from several California airports to all the major Hawaiian Islands. Remember that Southwest prices aren’t published on flight comparison sites, so you must book directly with the airline.

For this post, I assumed that families would spend $900 per person to get to and from Hawaii, and then another $60 per person on a one-way inter-island flight. You’d want to budget for an additional inter-island flight if you need to get back to your island of arrival for your return flight to the mainland U.S., however.

I’d highly recommend signing up for Going to get alerts on flight sales to your dream destinations.

Cost of Accommodations in Hawaii

Basic rooms that sleep four at full-service luxury resorts, like Disney’s Aulani on Oahu or Fairmont Orchid on the Big Island, price out around $700 per night in the summer months. You can easily spend $1,000 a night or more for more spacious accommodation, like larger suites or condos with kitchens at these properties.

For budget travelers, even three-star hotels in Hawaii price out at around $250-400 per night in the summer months. Often these properties sacrifice beach access or beautiful locations and expect rooms to be quite basic. But most will have that sought-after amenity of a great pool so they certainly work for families who don’t require a lot of frills.

For those who veer away from resorts and toward quieter, self-catering accommodations, expect vacation rentals to range from $250-1,500 per night in the summer. Prices on the Big Island tend to be a little lower and a better value overall than Oahu.

Keep in mind that having a kitchen may bring down your food costs, especially if you choose to cook some meals yourself, or simply prepare basic breakfasts and sandwiches and keep drinks and snacks cold. Resorts are not known for inexpensive food, after all.

Also, take note of what’s included when booking resort vacation packages in Hawaii. Some include the cost of all the on-site amenities, while others do not. Complimentary breakfast is not always a given here, either. Other properties have a big markup when it comes to daily resort fees ($30 per person per day is not uncommon). Reading the fine print is important for this style of accommodation.

Another cost-saving strategy is to book early, especially for peak summer dates. Many of the popular resorts are fully booked for July and August by February. So booking accommodation in the fall for summer travel makes a lot of sense just so you have access to all the room category options. Plus, many properties offer pay-in-advance discounts, though you’ll definitely want to invest in travel insurance should you decide to take advantage of those lower rates.

I used the $700 average nightly rate for a lower category room at full-service resorts as my price calculation for accommodation costs.

Total Accommodation Cost: $7,000 for 10 nights

Transportation costs in Hawaii

Of course, if you want to get off the property of the resort and explore some of the natural beauty of the Hawaiian islands, you are going to need a way to get around. The cost to rent a midsize SUV is typically around $400 for 5 days, including taxes and fees.

Be sure to book early if you’re traveling to Hawaii during busy periods; rental cars often sell out a few weeks prior to peak travel weeks. When calculating total transportation costs, I assumed families would rent a car on both Oahu and the Big Island for the duration of their trip, plus another $150 in gas and parking fees.

Check car rental prices on Kayak

While both islands have public transportation by way of bus routes, most families find this method of travel prohibitively time-consuming to get to the various spots that interest them. For families that envision not leaving the resort much, but still want a taste of both islands, you can book a driver to take you around for the day for around $600 per day.

If you opt not to rent a car, you’ll also need to account for airport transfers. Private transfers price out around $70-150 for one-way service to various accommodations within a reasonable drive of the airport.

Total Car Rental/Transportation Cost: $950

Food Costs in Hawaii

There’s no way around it: eating in Hawaii is expensive. Many families who don’t plan ahead and take this into account have serious sticker shock when they arrive. Remember, a lot of the food has traveled by boat for over a week to get to the Hawaiian Islands.

One great rule to keep in mind, both when grocery shopping and dining out, is to look for food that is sourced locally. Not only will it be cheaper, but it will taste fresher and reduce your carbon footprint. For example, stop at markets and roadside stands for produce. It’ll be a fraction of the cost of what fruits and vegetables cost at the grocery stores and it makes for a great cultural immersion experience.

This is another example of why renting a car ultimately often saves money: because resort mini-markets are very overpriced. If you can get to a big box store to stock up on snacks or simple meal ingredients, there will be cost savings. That said, even grocery shopping is expensive. If you’re on a very tight budget, consider doing a little research in advance. Most of Hawaii’s grocery store chains are affiliated with a mainland counterpart. You may be able to use your loyalty card from home for discounts.

Naturally, dining out is also pricey. Look for accommodations that provide complimentary breakfast; this will be a huge cost saver up front. Next, aim for more reasonably priced lunches, like roadside stands or packed picnic fixings while you’re out exploring. This way, lunch will cost about $12 per person, instead of $25, which you can expect to pay at resort restaurants. Then you can indulge in lovely dinners with a little less guilt about the price tag. Expect dinner to cost around $50 or more per person, younger children who order off a kid’s menu will be significantly less.

Given that, we can assume that families of four will spend around $250 per day on food costs.

Total Food Cost: $2,500

Tours and Activity Costs

Undoubtedly the top reason families love coming to Hawaii is the natural beauty: gorgeous views, incredible beaches, and diverse landscapes. Fortunately, this is all completely free to enjoy once you arrive.

It’s quite easy to spend days exploring the islands without spending a dime other than on food and gas. Add in a few days of leisurely enjoying resort amenities, and it means activities don’t have to break the bank compared to other travel expenses.

That said, a trip here is often a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so families tend to want to do and see it all while here. A favorite bucket list activity can include surf lessons, which can cost around $100-200 per person for an hour or two. You may also want to visit Pearl Harbor. See more suggestions on things to do in Oahu with kids .

Most of the national parks in Hawaii are free to enter, but the three that do charge entrance fees are around $30 per car. Check to see if your resort will host a luau dinner during your stay, or plan to arrange to attend one off-site one evening. The cost is around $120 per adult and kids are usually half off (but this includes dinner).

The big ticket item is usually a helicopter tour. Costs can differ drastically based on where you go, how long, and your departure point. Generally, a tour that originates in Hilo, the rainier side of the Big Island, is a cheaper location yet offers incredible views of the volcanoes that dot the island. The cost for this for a family of four is around $1556.

Total Activity Cost: $2,400

Of course, for a vacation this expensive, you want to make sure you purchase travel insurance .

Total Cost for a 10-day Trip to Hawaii

The total cost for a 10-day trip to Hawaii for a family of four is about $16,690. This assumes nice, four-star accommodations and a few splurges on activities and meals. Of course, you may also want to budget for some souvenirs from Hawaii , we were very tempted by some beautiful paintings when we visited!

As we discussed above, families can save money on more budget accommodations, vacation rentals, preparing their own meals, staying at a resort to use the pool and beach and not renting a car or doing other activities. For West Coast families, it is also easy to visit for just a week or even five days. But if you are traveling from the East Coast and taking a 10-hour flight, you probably want to stay at least 10 days.

One of the best ways to save is to use airline, hotel, or credit card points to offset some of those expenses. If it is going to be a trip of a lifetime, save those points to make it happen!

Let’s recap the Hawaii budget breakdown:

There are cheaper locations to travel to, especially if your family merely wants sunny weather and sandy beaches. But Hawaii is one of the most unique locations in the world, with its indigenous culture, lush landscapes and rugged mountains, and incredibly luxurious yet kid-friendly resorts.

It has a correspondingly hefty price tag, but families unanimously consider a trip here money well spent, and many return year after year. Here are some tips for planning a budget trip to Hawaii .
