Ultimate Guide To Carnival Cruise Line’s Kids Programs

Guest

  • June 8, 2019

Carnival Cruise Line offers kids and youth programs across their fleet of Fun Ships. Since the cruise line accommodates more than 750,000 kids annually, Carnival has to be able to cater to families exceptionally well.

Carnival Cruise ship

Family activities the cruise line offers include events on the decks or other spots on the ship, family oriented live entertainment, and pay- for activities for any age.

One of the most appealing and beloved aspects of a family cruise is the kids and teen clubs. Catering specifically to the two to 17-year-old guests, these spaces entertain, teach, and engage children and teenagers on their level.

Carnival Kid’s Programs

Camp Ocean Carnival

While most cruise lines have some sort of place for the kids to go and have fun, some say that Carnival does it best.

Carnival’s kid and youth programs are broken down into three sections:

  • Camp Ocean is for the 2-11-year-olds
  • Circle C is for those 12-14
  • Club O2 for older teens

Each group has its own space on the ship separated from the rest, so teens won’t feel like they are being sent to a babysitting camp, and younger kids will also feel comfortable with children of similar ages.

None of the groups are additional costs and are included in the base cruise fare.

While Camp Ocean has lots of guided activities such as crafts, movies, and plenty of staff, Circle C and Club O2 are more “hang out” spaces with organized activities such as scavenger hunts, movies under the stars, dance parties, and karaoke.

Camp Ocean (Ages 2 to 11)

Camp Ocean kids

The primary kid’s activity on Carnival is Camp Ocean (formerly known as Camp Carnival), which is a part of every ship in the fleet. When you first board the vessel, the camp area will be open for you to meet the counselors and let children become acquainted with the area and activities.

This is a great time to ask any questions that you might have. Some kids will have butterflies about going to the camp, but once they see the fun activities planned, the crafts, and the gaming systems, those usually disappear.

The activities in Camp Ocean change constantly and are always fresh. There is a different craft project every day in which the kids can take with them and proudly display in the cabin.

Camp Ocean activities

Books are read, with a special emphasis on the Dr. Seuss series. Lots of games, puzzles, leggo, and other fun playthings are available. Sometimes age-appropriate movies are played in the evening; parents are always informed ahead of time of which film is to be shown.

Dr. Suess' Bookville

If a child becomes upset or injured, families are called back to the camp with a portable phone which is given when the children are dropped off. Kids cannot leave without being signed out with a staff member and the adult must be on the pre-approved list.

Older children can be given the privilege of signing themselves out, but this must be set-up ahead of time when you register for your cruise, or discussed with a counselor on embarkation day.

Camp Ocean is not open all day and night, but instead has set hours.

Standard Camp Ocean hours:

  • 10:00 am -1:00 pm
  • 2:00 pm -5:00 pm
  • 7:00 pm -10:00 pm

Even though many families drop off their kids right when they open and pick up right at closing time (often at the request of the kids themselves!), you are welcome to do that at any time the camp is open.

Camp Ocean Carnival

On select nights drop off can occur in the buffet area where kid-friendly food is served. Other than that, food is not given to the children and the camp room is usually closed during lunch.

If you are not sure of the hours on any given day, check with a counselor, the Fun Times daily planner, or the Carnival Hub app.

Carnival Cruise Babysitting Program

babysitting program carnival

Camp Ocean does offer a “Night Owls” babysitting program which is available from 10 pm – 1 am. This is held in the main Camp Ocean room for kids 6 months- 11 years old. Carnival no longer offers in-room babysitting services.

Standard charges are $7.50 per hour per child plus an 18% gratuity. Fees are paid when the kids are picked up and charged to your Sign and Sail account. Discounts for multiple children are, unfortunately, not available.

Night Owls is a fun slumber party type environment with movies, games, crafts, and snacks for the kids to enjoy. Pillows and blankets are provided for older children who feel tired and Pack ‘N Play for babies to nap.

Younger children do not have to be potty trained. but must be dropped off with diapers and toiletries. They must also be able to fit on a changing table.

Additionally, on select nights themed parties such as “Mardi Gras” and “Beach Bash” are held which do incur an additional $17 per child if they would like to participate.

Circle C (Ages 12 to 14)

Circle C carnival Cruise

Designed for the 12-14-year-old early teen crowd, Circle C is a great place for them to hang out and make new friends. It’s less structured than Camp Ocean, but activities are planned according to a schedule and are always staffed by energetic and fun Carnival crew.

This space is designed with a fresh and cool vibe. It has the feeling of a cross between a  lounge and a game room.

Circle C lounge and game room

Activities take place in the Circle C lounge, but also around the ship. In the lounge are dance parties, karaoke, movies and gaming stations. Outside of the Circle C space, there is organized fun like scavenger hunts and water slide races.

Kids who choose to attend Circle C are given the ability to check themselves in and out at will.

Club O2 (Ages 15 to 17)

club 02 carnival cruise

For the oldest group of kids, Club O2 is completely dedicated to the 15-17 year olds. Decorated in dance club style, there’s usually a large dance floor, stools for sitting, lounge areas, and a bar for serving smoothies and sodas. Comfortable couches and loungers along with gaming stations round out the area.

Participants come and go as they please, however, the room and activities are always staffed with Carnival Crew to make sure everybody is following the rules and having a great time.

Hours of Club O2 lounge are:

  • Sea Days 12 pm-6 pm / 8:30 pm -12:30 am
  • Port Days 3 pm-6 pm / 8:30 pm -12:30 am

Outside of the Club O2 lounge, planned activities include movie nights under the stars, ping pong, basketball and other sports, and other fun surprises for teens.

Teen party carnival

Carnival ships are known across the travel industry as being the best for families- and it shows with the awesome kids and teen spaces that they have created. However many activities your children or teens decide to participate in, they are guaranteed to have fun, make incredible memories, and enjoy every minute of their cruise.

Camp Ocean (Carnival’s Kid Area): What to Know Before Your Kids Go

Cruising is without a doubt a great way to vacation for the entire family. Whether you are 8 or 80, there is always something for you to do. But that doesn’t mean a family traveling together always wants to spend every moment together.

carnival cruise 15 year old club

Sometimes parents want some time without the kids. And sometimes the kids want to play with other people their age. That’s where the dedicated kid areas — like Carnival’s Camp Ocean — can be the perfect solution.

These spots give children a place to play and hang out without their parents while still being watched by the staff. That means for both kids and adults, it may end up being their favorite places on the Carnival ship.

But if you and your kids have never visited Camp Ocean before, you might have some questions about how it works. We have you covered below…

What Is Camp Ocean?

First things first, Camp Ocean is a dedicated kid area that’s available across the entire Carnival fleet. It offers staff that supervises the kids and tons of things for kids to do from video games to arts and crafts to physical activities to movie nights.

Parents can drop off their children while Mom and Dad get some time to enjoy the cruise on their own terms. Kids get to play and do things they want to do with other kids their own age.

Think of it as daycare on the cruise ship, allowing everyone to have a good time.

Is Camp Ocean Free for Kids to Attend?

carnival cruise 15 year old club

For the vast majority of times, admission to Camp Ocean is included in your cruise fare. So you simply check your child in and pick them up when ready at no additional charge. That means you won’t pay anything extra whether your kids stay there for an hour or all day.

The one exception is after 10 p.m. From 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Carnival’s Camp Ocean offers the “Night Owls” session. During this time there is a charge of $7.50 (plus 18% gratuity, for a total of $8.85) per hour for each kid who stays.

So if you have a kid that stays anytime up until 10 p.m. there is no charge. It’s about $9 per hour after that.

As well, there is an hourly charge for kids staying in Camp Ocean during the more limited hours for children aged 0-2 years old.

What Age Groups Are Available to Participate?

As mentioned, children are grouped by age. Camp Ocean offers the following groups on the ship:

  • Turtles (0-1 years)
  • Penguins (2-5 years)
  • Stingrays (6-8 years)
  • Sharks (9-11 years)

For older kids there are also youth areas known as “Circle C” (12-14 years old) and Club O2 (15-17 years old) that technically aren’t part of Camp Ocean, but offer a dedicated spot  and programming for older kids. These two spots still offer things for kids to do but on a more independent basis. For example, teens in these groups can sign themselves in and out as they please.

I Have Kids in Two Different Age Groups. Can They Go to the Same Area?

Carnival’s website says they have a “strict policy” of not moving kids from one age group to another.

In our experience, however, we noticed some leniency. Say you have a 9 year-old and an 8 year-old. In that case we’ve seen some bending on the age policy to allow the siblings to be in the same group. You can just talk to the Camp Ocean staff when you first arrive.

However, larger age differences likely won’t be accommodated. Don’t expect a 5 year-old to be able to go to the same group with a 9 year-old.

How Does the Drop-Off/Pick-Up Process Work?

carnival cruise 15 year old club

Before your child can join Camp Ocean, you’ll need to go through a registration process. This can be done online ahead of time, which is highly suggested. If you don’t do it before the cruise then you can visit once on the ship. During embarkation day there is an open house where kids and parents can come, meet the staff, register (if not already done), and then explore Camp Ocean.

Once the camp opens, then you’ll simply arrive at the front desk when you want to drop off your kid. The staff will take your room number to bring up your account, check your room keycard to make sure you have pick-up/drop-off privileges, and then have the child get their name tag to wear in camp. The staff will then take the child back. You’ll be able to see the time of check-in on the Carnival Hub app.

When it’s time to pick-up, the process is similar, just reversed. You’ll arrive at the front desk, provide your room number, and show your keycard. The staff will then go back and get your child.

Who Can Pick-Up/Drop-Off a Child in Camp Ocean?

When you register, you can provide who has the ability to pick-up and drop-off. There are different rules based on their age that you can choose from.

  • Kids Under 9: May be picked up by a designated adult over 18 years old only.
  • Kids 9-11: If a parent/guardian chooses, then kids 9-11 are allowed to sign themselves in and out of Camp Ocean until 10 p.m. After that time, an authorized adult must sign them out. As well, a parent can opt to not let kids 9-11 be able to sign themselves in/out.
  • Kids 12 and Older: Children over 12 years are allowed to sign themselves in/out as they wish.

What Hours Is the Camp Open?

carnival cruise 15 year old club

Hours vary based on whether you are at sea or in port. During a recent cruise, we found the following schedule:

  • Sea Days: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. | 6 p.m. – 1 a.m. (Charge applies after 10 p.m.)
  • Port Days: Port Arrival – 12 p.m. | 1 p.m. – 1 a.m. (Charge applies after 10 p.m.) Kids-only lunch from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.

As you can see, there are some hour-long breaks during the day where the camp closes around dinner time. Carnival says that parents are “encouraged to pick up for meal times.” However, there is also the option on some days in port to have your child eat lunch/dinner with Camp Ocean.

To be sure, you’ll want to check the Carnival Hub app when you are on your cruise to see the exact opening hours each day.

Can My Child Stay in Camp While I Go to Port?

Everyone knows that having a small child with you completely changes the dynamic of exploring a new place. And whether it be that a shore excursion you’ve booked is only for kids above a certain age or you just don’t want to try and plan a day in an unfamiliar port around a child’s needs, you do have an option with Camp Ocean.

Kids are welcomed to stay at Camp Ocean while a parent goes off the ship into port . The only issue is if something goes wrong at camp while you are off the ship, then there may be no way to contact you. Carnival says if you are on a Carnival excursion, they will contact the tour operator if something goes wrong. Otherwise, you will be notified when you get back on the ship.

What if my Child Has a Problem While at Camp?

Anyone that has a kid knows that occasionally issues do come up. From smaller kids who miss their parents to older kids that get too rough, there may be times when the staff can’t fix the situation and need to get in touch with parents.

For smaller kids, the camp will have a limited number of shipboard phones that you will be provided. For older kids they are available on request, but are meant for those with younger children. These phones work on the ship and allow the staff to call you directly should there be an issue where a parent is needed.

If you don’t get one of these phones, then the staff will try to contact you other ways. For instance, this might be a call to your stateroom phone. If something is extremely urgent and you can’t be reached over your cabin phone, there could be a shipboard announcement.

What Is There For Kids to Do?

carnival cruise 15 year old club

During the day there is a schedule of different activities arranged.

For instance, during “Kid’s Choice” campers get to do what they please, whether that’s playing games, playing with toys, video games, and more.

During “Active” times, campers do things like play Capture the Flag, Dodgeball, or Bean Bag Toss.

Arts & Crafts sessions include everything from jewelry making to creating whatever you want. There are also movie times, themed parties, and karaoke. You’ll see a full schedule of what’s available each day on the Carnival Hub app once your board.

A Special Word About Kids Under 2 Years Old

Kids under 2 years-old are treated a little differently with Camp Ocean. For most kids, the camp is simple. You bring your child, check them in, and they have fun while you go around the ship.

That’s not the case for the youngest children. These kids are in the “Turtles” group. Because smaller children require more care, Carnival offers more limited times for them.

In this case, there are times where you and your child can go enjoy the area designed for smaller kids for no charge. But if you want to leave your child during these times, then it’s a $7.50 per hour (plus 18% service charge) per child.

Available times will vary based on sea days/port days, so you’ll want to check the Hub app once you board. However, just know that it won’t be as inexpensive or flexible as sailing with an older kid.

Our Personal Experience With Camp Ocean

We recently cruised with our 6 year-old who attended Camp Ocean for the first time. During past cruises the area was closed (sailing right after cruises returned) or he wasn’t yet old enough to attend.

First things first, our son loved the experience. He would regularly ask during the day if he could go back to “Ocean Camp” (as he wanted to call it for some reason) multiple times during the day. For him, the chance to be social with other kids and also play video games were big draws. In fact, there were even times when we went to pick him up after a couple of hours, only for him to ask to stay longer.

On the parent side, the staff put us at ease and despite there being a lot of kids around, things seemed to be organized well. Lines during peak check-out times were long, but took no more than five minutes of waiting. As well, having the ability to drop off our kid and then go do things like have a drink, gamble in the casino, or just have some peace and quiet was amazing.

The cost is included in your cruise fare. Definitely take advantage.

More Tips & Advice

  • If you have a child that requires medicine during their stay at Camp Ocean, know that the staff isn’t allowed to give it. Also, no medicines other than epi-pens and inhalers are allowed at camp. Parents will have to come to give medicine if it’s required during the stay.
  • The person picking up a child doesn’t have to be the same one who dropped off. It also doesn’t have to be a parent or guardian. It just has to be someone that was authorized during registration and over 18 years old. So, for example, if you are sailing with another family, you can each authorize the other to be able to pick up kids. That way only one person of the group would have to go grab the kids when it’s time.
  • Look on the schedule for family programming. These are activities that parents and kids can do together, giving you a chance to do some things that are designed for kids to enjoy while spending some time together.

Club O2 (15 to 17 year olds)

We are sailing June 2 on the Breeze with our 16 year old daughter and she is rather reluctant to join in on the Club O2 programs.

Has anyone had a teen that went to Club O2 while cruising...did they enjoy it?

Have her go the first day, that is when the friendships form. Many times the kids meet at the club and go from there.

Whether she has a good time at the club depends on her and the others on the cruise. Our kids have had lousy times with a large group and a wonderful time with only four. It really depends on the mix of kids.

Just off the Liberty and my 16 year old son had a blast with O2.

Yes! My DD did like Club O2. My DD was 15 on her first cruise 2 years ago. She is shy, so she was very worried about making friends. The club had a "get to know each other" type event the first day of the cruise. She made friends in the first few minutes, and still (almost 2 years later) keeps in touch with those friends. I highly recommend that your DD go to that event, because it's the best time to meet others. Once the kids make friends, they may or may not choose to do the events in the club together. Often, they just went and did stuff on the ship together outside of the club activities, but with that age group, the kids come and go from the club as they please.

My son was reluctant also he didn't want to go alone, but he ended up going on day 2. Another teenager told him he should come and hang out, we didn't see him for the rest of the cruise. Ryan had a blast with the other kids, they danced and hung out most of the night dragging in well after we fell asleep. He still talks them on facebook.

My son likes to go, he shows up the first day, registers and meets some of the other kids. Sometimes a group of them would break off and do their own thing. They have a schedule, so she can pick and choose what she wants to participate in. It is a good way to get to meet other kids their own age. It's more fun than hanging out by yourself or with your parents.

missypriss19

My son griped and moaned before our Christmas cruise in 2011 when I filled out the forms to club o2. He said I am not going to go to that ever. We did go the first night of the cruise. And I hardly ever saw him again. He was either in the club of with other club memebers singing kareoke, on lido, swimming, etc. I still tease him about never going to that club. We have done another cruise since and he was excited to go and meet new people and looking forward to again on our cruise in August.

Our august cruise will probably be his last time in the Club since he will age out in February.

3,000+ Club

My son loves it. (he just turned 17) We cruise because he enjoys it. He says it's important to go the first night. also - it's what you make of it. If you think I won't have any fun or act shy then you won't have fun. But if you treat it like camp and enjoy meeting people - you will have fun. He still hears from a few kids he's met on each cruise and even a couple of the counselors.

KatPem

a lot of it depends on her and how open she is going to be to it.

I have a 15 year old Sophomore. She is a cheerleader and an athlete and is outgoing but usually quiet until she figures out what to talk to new people about.

I told all my kids that they needed to go to the first night and a couple of activities and then they could decide whether to join in or not.

My daughter loved it and if she wasn't in O2 she was hanging out across the hall in the foyer from there or up on the Lido deck with her new friends.

I will say....be sure you are aware of who your kids are hanging out with ! We had a group of teenagers in the hot tub that were talking about drinking Malibu and Coke. I about had a heart attack when my oldest said she was going to hang out in the hot tub with some friends....it was all ok once I verified it wasn't those kids lol

deetrayn

My 17 yr old DD is outgoing and has enjoyed Club O2 on three cruises. She shows up on the first day/evening, and meets other teens. She told me that making friends with the teens is very important because if Club O2 has activities that they find boring, they will do their own thing together.

I have often ran into my DD in various parts of the ship (lido buffet, theater, pool, hot tub, ect.) with her new friends. And there are a few that she still keeps in touch with.

I filled out the form for my daughter who is 17. Does she go to the sign up with her friends who are cruising with us or do the parents need to go the first day to had over the paper work?

Thanks, Dawn

My son went the first night when they had the meet and greet and met another boy who loves soccer and plays FIFA on Xbox, just like him. From that point on his group of friends just grew.

Here they are (with some others joining) dancing on the Lido Deck during their 1 Hour time of Water Slide races. They had a ball!!!!

Dancing on the Lido!

We'll be on the Breeze sailing june 2 also.. My son is 16 and loved O2 his first cruise (15 then) and not so much this past November. I think this cruise will have a lot more kids his age. He's looking forward to O2 on the breeze. On the Paradise we never saw him after dinner, he was hanging out with his new friends at the club or ping pong or somewhere. He had a blast!

I filled out the form for my daughter who is 17. Does she go to the sign up with her friends who are cruising with us or do the parents need to go the first day to had over the paper work? Thanks, Dawn

Parents go, finish up the paperwork and RUN!;)

If she has any allergy there will be another form to fill out.

fishinjunkie

My DD joins every time on the first day. We usually never see her except when we insist she join us. The teen club is semi structured but the teens can pop in and participate in what they want to or just hang out. It does depend on the other kids in the group though too.

A lot of good feedback!

My DD is shy at the beginning once she gets comfortable watch out!!!

Swayde

My 16 year old son had a great time when he went. He ended up staying with the group the entire time except when he'd join us for dinner and when we were off the ship in ports. He would have gone on excursions with the kids if they had enough interest, but there weren't a ton of kids on the ship when we sailed so he came with us. He really had a great time and I think he still keeps in touch on Xbox live with some of the kids he met.

Bigun60

My grandkids (boy 14, girl 16) had an absolute blast and met many friends that they stay in constant touch with. This last one on the Liberty was the absolute best. I (64 year old grandma) also had a blast dancing with them. They were all so very respectful - I loved this group of friends the most.

Once your child goes you won't see her much. You will have to make an appointment to see her!

Enjoy your cruise and be safe.

I second what everybody is saying. My daughter thought 9 years ago at 8 years old these places weren't for her. Once she gets in there the first day I never see her again except dinners. She is bringing a friend who just turned 18 (my DD is still 17) for her graduation cruise, and the plan is for her to go meet some kids the first night and bring them out for her friend and her to hang with. LOL She still has friends from past cruises as well.

Cool Cruiser

I know this question has been asked somewhere on the boards before - but - how strict are they with the ages - I have two kids 14 and 15 and would prefer they stick together? Will they let the 14 yr old stay with the 15 yr old?

My son will be 14 and 11 months and I've researched this as well. From what I understand, it is completely up to the staff of the ship you are on. My son is our youngest so he is used to being around older brothers and he will have NOTHING in common with 12 and 13 yr olds. I'm really hopeful that I can register him up otherwise, he will really be out of luck because his brothers will be 18 and 21 and not interested in hanging with him or allowed in O2.

At least yours will have each other to hang out with if they won't let you move your 14 up to O2.

serene56

Are you sailing during peak family sailing time?>

if you want the kids together-- the 15 year old will be moving down in groups.

make sure they go the first night for the get together-- to meet the kids in their groups- they tend to hang out together anyways

Have your son go the first night because there may be others who are almost 15 that he would enjoy hanging out with. If he goes and it's mostly 12 and 13 year olds, they may be more likely to let him switch. When my daughter was 7, Disney let us move her up to the 8-9 group after she tried the 5-7 group.

was that in July or September that they allowed that?

I think its more strict today then it was 5 years ago- today disney combines ages for just that reason. (I dont know if I would be happy with an 8 year old daughter in with the 13 year old boys=lol

You won't know an answer for sure until you actually ask the staff upon boarding.

They will stretch the ages, sometimes, based on several factors such as current number of kids in that age group, how close to the next birthday the child is and the mood of the staff person you speak with.

Hope this helps.

Litewait

with Carnival is "if your child is within 3 months of his 15th birthday they will let him move up". That is a forsure thing. It's been in place since Dec. 08. I'm sure they have some flexibilty otherwise. If your cruising summer which is primetime for kids the chances of flexibilty are pretty limited because their are lots of kids in those programs and there may not be room.

I will let you guys know next Tuesday. I am going on the Glory on Thursday. I am 14 and a half, but I am going to be a sophomore in High school this September. On NCL they have a 13-17 group (AMAZING!) and it was easy to get along with everyone. I was the 13 year old, and I was hanging out with three 16 year olds, a 14 y.o. and an 18 y.o.(he was hanging out with one of the 16 y.o. and met us outside) I kinda hope I will be allowed into Club O2, but then again I am traveling with 2 of my friends (who will be allowed in there, they are 15 and 17. We are going on a girl scout trip and they are sisters. a whole 3 of us in the troop!) Look for my review starting monday or tuesday of next week and I will let you guys know.

It was in July. Like you, I don't think I would want my 8 year old with 13 year olds on a cruise and I think cruises need to be flexible with ages based on the kid. That's why I think sometimes they will make adjustments once the kid has tried the club, but don't necessarily publicize it. Even with the 12-14 age group, you can have a kid who is barely 12, going into 6th or 7th grade, with one who is almost 15, going into 10th grade. So while there is not much difference between 12 and 14, there is really a huge difference. Even on that cruise, when I had originally asked to register her for the older age group, I was told no. It was only after she had tried it and the staff saw that she would fit better in the older group that they allowed her to make the change.

On the Carnival Dream during Spring Break, they were very strict about the ages. We had girl that was turning 12 the following week and they would not allow her to in even though here brother was there. Later in the cruise, they did get more relaxed in their rules. However, at the beginnign they were checking pretty close.

If that is true, than I will most likely be able to get into Club O2 because my birthday is September 14 and I sail June 24 (2 months and approx. 20 days apart). So I should be able to be in there, right? Sophomore and less than 3 months away from my 15th birthday?

lillian marie

They wouldn't let my kids move up or move down groups to be together even though they are a year apart in age. As other posters have said it'll depend on the staff on that ship.

Wont be long until you find out. You are cruising to canada right?

Thats something different completly- you cant base a canada cruise to a caribbean cruise.especially shorter cruises of 4/5 nights

I would be very surprised if they did not allow you to move up BUT if they see that you are girl scouts they might make you adhere to the age rule.

Dont forget to let us know when you get back

Tbay-eh

Just like the drinking age is 21 - I know, a lot of 18 - 19 year olds are more responsible but they are not allowed. There is a height restriction for using the water slide because of insurance even if your child can do it with their eyes closed. There are age categories for the clubs because they find groups interact more with each other (again - not always but from past experience). I was with one couple whose kid was 1 week (not 3 months like one poster said is allowed) was not allowed to move and she still had a good time. All you can do is ask and if it works to your benefit great - if not, them are the rules. Where is the line finally drawn - it has to happen at some point.

It's the opposite for us. DD will turn 12 in Dec. but our cruise is Jan 2nd. She's nervous about being in the 12-14 age group and said she rather stay in kids camp i think it 9-11. She met 11yrs old and had fun. I think she's a lil nervous about the big age change. Plus she's shy.

We plan on taking her to the 1st night and see what she thinks but if she doesnt like it I wonder if they will let her go to 9-11 camp. Dh said just sign her up for the 9-11 group.

We just dont want her to feel uncomfortable and not sure if at any point they let the 15-17 interact with 12-15 in a group activity at the pool or dances.

This is where cruising gets tricky for families with several kids that want to stay together but get divided by the preset ages. All you can do is ask and see if they will let one move down (moving up is harder to get approved).

As for those that think their child is too mature for their age group you can bet there will be plenty of other kids in their age group that are just as mature as they are, they aren't the only child that has older siblings they hang around with so I'd leave them where they are.

Texarribean Chick

On the Fantasy, last August we had two teenage girls. One 13 and one 14. We were told by the Club 02 director that "no" - the 13 year old could not join Club 02. DH went to the purser's desk and requested an exception be made bacause our daughter is very mature for her age and frankly, didn't want to be without her 14 year old friend. The purser's desk granted our wish on a "probationary" type basis. The girls were allowed in Club 02 and based on their "behavior" the first night as to whether or not they could join for the followiing nights. If you feel your child would be better suited in Club 02 and if you are told no by the director - go further and see if you can be satisfied. Needless to say, our girls "behaved" and all was well.

Good Luck - BTW, although my girls did enjoy Club 02, when we returned home, the exact words out of my daughter's mouth were, "Gee, we should have stayed in Circle C - at least they were dancing and having a good time. The kids in Club 02 just sat around cuz I guess they were too cool to dance." Just a little FYI..............

The purser's desk granted our wish on a "probationary" type basis. The girls were allowed in Club 02 and based on their "behavior" the first night as to whether or not they could join for the followiing nights. Have Fun! Chick.

wow- that kinda sucks that someone at the pursers desk underminded the decision of the staff running the camps.

Twinklin-- its easier to move the kids down in age groups- if you think your daughter will do better with the younger kids--then by all means head there.

GrammyJill

Our daughter is 15 but is developmentally delayed, I would much rather her be in the 12 - 14 yr group. It makes me calmer to hear it is easier to move down. I am planning on talking to the staff when we board but dang it's hard to wait! (75 days & counting :D ) I am very leery of her being with "older teens" that may not understand why she acts like an 11 yr old. When we went on the Holiday (many) years ago the staff couldn't have been better with her & she stayed at camp as many hours as she could! lol Made her a complete cruise addict just like her Momma!

warmplaces

Hi RBLWMN, our daughter is also developmentaly delayed (she's 13 but acts 5-8) if you call Carnival they will email a form for handicapped access - I filled it out and told them she doesn't need a wheelchair, just that she has Tuberous Sclerosis with autistic features and part of their response was because she is special needs she can be placed in the next lower age group if that would be a better experience for her. Like you we sailed with her on Carnival before (six years back) and she had an absolute ball! First time Mommy and Daddy had some alone time since she was diagnosed. Her brother who is older and typical" - if there is such a thing ;-) - was even allowed to join her for lunch. Carnival really made such a wonderful impression on us, we can't wait for our September cruise!

Have a wonderful time!

Hello everyone. I am back. When you get on to the ship with your child, they will ask how old you are, just say 15 and they will give you a thing with a time and place to sign up. I did, and they gave me one. But the muster drill ran late (about 5:15 and we saw the Miracle leaving). We were supposed to leave at 5 but that didnt happen. We went to watch us leave, and then we had 6 pm dining, and when we went there afterwords to sign up, there was one guy 'working' there. All he did was stand around, making sure everyone there was signed up. And when we went over to get an application, all he did was stand there, watching everyone else. Didn't even ask what we needed. I would say just find people wandering around, and ask if they want to play cards or something. That worked out well with a lot of people. We sat and played cards, but there were 3 of us, plus 3 adults. There was a group of choir boys that performed on the ship, and they walked around giving free hugs. Unfortunatly, we denied them, but by midnight rolled around the night of the mexican buffet, we wanted company and kept looking for them, but they had a bedtime or something. Too bad.

wow-- you are back already? didnt you just leave????

myhow time flies when others are cruising---

did theylet youmove up to the 15 year old program?

It was only a 4 day cruise.... Can't wait until I can move up to a longer cruise. They are too expensive now. But they didn't check my age or anything. I would assume you would be allowed. But they had to question me and my friend, but the 17 year old kinda just ignored them. My 15 year old friend looks younger because of her height, and I look 16 so I just said I was 15. They couldn't not let me in, could they? I would just say 15, and if they turn you down, find other people. Circle C is an awkward group. 12 and 14 year olds couldn't be more different.

This was a Canada cruise-- its gonna be different from a Caribbean Cruise. For one they know how old you are because you needed a birth certificate to board-- and when you book you input your birthdate.

It does not sound like they enforce this on your cruise. How many kids were in your circle?

when you say the longer cruises are too expensive== what did youpay for this cruise?

I am sailing in Feb 2012 and inside cabins are 549 (or something along that line for a 7 day cruise)

lulamc

I think it varies widely but on the Legend the week of 6/6/10 my kids who are 13 and 14 registered in Circle C but spent the majority of their time with friends in Club 02. Ages were not monitored closely, if at all.

Our cruise is exactly two weeks before our son turns 15 and he does not want to go to Circle C (12-14 yrs) and said he wants to be with kids more his age in Club O2 (15-17yrs.) This kid hangs out mostly with kids that are a year or two older than him. Will Carnival be flexible?

Thanks

@Joaniefl  That's a great question and I think it's really dependent on the ship. Since it's the older ages, I would expect them to make an exception considering how close it will be until his birthday. Some of the activities will likely include both groups together which could be nice too. You may just have to play it by ear and wait until you get onboard. I cruise with my younger children 6 and under and cruise lines are pretty strict with those age requirements. For the older kids, they can be more lenient, especially since they can sign themselves in and out. Happy birthday to your son! When will your family be cruising out?

The 10 best cruises for teens in 2024.

The best cruises for teens provide the right mix of autonomy and time with family.

The Best Cruises for Teens

At Edge aboard the Disney Wish, tweens ages 11 to 14 years old play games and make new friends in a bright, colorful hangout inspired by a chic New York City loft.

Teen spaces on cruise ships foster friendships through games, music, events and more.

Cruises make the perfect family vacation, especially when traveling with teens. Teens can mix and mingle with others their age in teens-only clubs, play games, listen to music, or grab a pizza and watch a movie under the stars. If your tweens and teens need more action-packed fun to keep them entertained, some cruise ships act like floating amusement parks with zip lines, racetracks, roller coasters, ice skating rinks, laser tag, waterslides and more.

The following lines offer the best cruises for teens and tweens, along with their parents.

Find your perfect cruise

MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises offers plenty of family fun and activities for teens on its ships, including sports tournaments, waterslides and a family disco. On select ships, you'll also find the full-size MSC Formula Racer simulator, an interactive XD cinema, a virtual reality experience, zip lines and an arcade room. The Young Club programming by MSC Cruises offers daily activities for 12- to 14-year-old tweens, while teens 15 to 17 can participate in sports and dance competitions as well as video game tournaments at the Teen Club. Older kids can also participate in fun themed events, karaoke, piloting practice at the Drone Academy and flash mobs – and there's a teens-only disco.

On MSC Seascape , teens can stay busy in three new concept spaces. "Future" features a state-of-the-art technology area with the latest-generation consoles, VR and video screens for hours of entertainment. "Chill Out" is just as it sounds – a place to hang out, chat, and play foosball and pingpong. Meanwhile, "Music" is a dance club where kids can choose their own tunes and dance the night away with cool lighting and sound effects. If all that isn't enough, Robotron, the first of its kind at sea, is an amusement park-like ride that combines the thrill of a roller coaster with personalized music and lighting.

MSC World Europa boasts the largest and most engaging kids area in the fleet with an impressive 8,245 square feet of action-packed space. The new Teens Lab features an immersive area for teenagers with more than 20 of the latest consoles, seven VR stations and dozens of video games. Drone Academy 2.0 is a high-energy relay race for drones. There's even more onboard fun at Z Active, a sports program that offers basketball, football and zorb ball alongside two firsts for the line – pickleball and hoverboards. Teens can also take a spin on the bumper cars at the MSC Sportplex.

MSC Euribia – the line's newest ship, which set sail on its inaugural cruise in June 2023 – has a total of 7,500-plus square feet of space dedicated to kids ages 0 to 17. The new Teens Club Extra Space offers three different areas: the Young Club (ages 12 to 14), the Teens Club (15 to 17) and the Teens Lab (12 to 17). Some of the activities include those found on other MSC ships, such as Z Active, Drone Academy 2.0 and the MSC Dance Crew competition. Teens will also have access to new video games; pingpong; World Quest, an interactive game show based on trivia and geography; and Caravaggio, an immersive spy game show about an art heist.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line boasts a teens-only venue, Entourage, which caters to young adults 13 to 17 years old. This supervised space – available on 16 of the line's 19 ships – keeps teens busy in an adults-free lounge that's filled with video games, movies, music, arts and sports. Teen counselors on Norwegian Cruise Line plan activities and challenges to keep kids entertained throughout the cruise. A list of detailed activities is available on embarkation day so teens can plan out their schedule for the cruise.

Norwegian Prima , the first vessel in the Prima class, features many first-at-sea innovations perfect for entertaining families and energetic teens, including the three-level Prima Speedway. With cars reaching up to 30 miles per hour, this quarter-mile-long racetrack is one of the highest-rated attractions on Prima. Adventurous teens will also want to check out The Drop and The Rush. Billed as the fastest slides at sea, these chutes offer thrill-seekers a heart-pumping 10-story freefall plunge.

If that's not enough action, teens can also play The Bull's Eye, a classic game of darts that uses a video tracking system, or check out Tee Time for a pumped-up version of mini-golf set against a Las Vegas backdrop. In the Galaxy Pavilion, an indoor gaming complex, you'll find more than a dozen attractions, including immersive simulator experiences, escape rooms and the Topgolf Swing Suite – all of which are unique to Norwegian Prima. When it's time to cool off, the Tidal Wave waterslide is another first for the brand, letting guests ride inner tubes to catch the surf.

Norwegian Viva, the second vessel in the Prima class, is set to launch in August 2023. As the newest ship in NCL's fleet, Viva will also feature these exciting high-tech attractions, including Viva Speedway. If you and your teens are fans of the movie "Beetlejuice," you're in for a treat: The Broadway musical adaptation will debut on the new ship.

The line's Breakaway Plus class – Norwegian Escape , Joy , Bliss and Encore – is also popular with families as these ships offer plenty of activities and attractions suited for active teens, such as go-kart tracks, outdoor laser tag and VR games in the Galaxy Pavilion.

Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line features two cool spaces dedicated to teens and tweens, who can hang out on comfy couches, watch shows or movies, and play video games. These hangouts, called Edge (for ages 11 to 14) and Vibe (ages 14 to 17), are available on all Disney Cruise Line ships.

On Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream , the space at Vibe also features a private outdoor deck with chaise lounges, wading pools, foosball and more. While indoors, teenagers can mingle with others their age, or just kick back and relax in individual nooks. There's a dance club area for karaoke contests, talent shows and dance competitions. The trendy indoor-outdoor space – at almost 9,000 square feet – is accessible with a teens-only card or DisneyBand+. On the new Disney Wish ship, Vibe has a French twist inspired by a Paris artist's loft with neon signs and funk pop art.

For tweens sailing on Disney Fantasy or Dream, Edge is a bright, loft-style gathering spot – located in the funnel – that has individual computer stations for gaming and a massive video wall for screening television, movies and games. There's also a lit-up dance floor for dance parties. Two nifty features of the space – and its location – are views of the pool decks below as well as three portholes that allow for glimpses of the riders on the water coaster, AquaDuck, as they zoom by.

On the first night of the cruise, kids receive information on what activities and events will be available during their vacation so they can curate a personalized entertainment itinerary. Some fun options throughout the week may include "Gotcha," a game of elimination where one teen will become the ultimate victor. For a special treat – and a bit of pampering – guests ages 13 to 17 won't want to miss an afternoon at Chill Spa, located inside Senses Spa & Salon.

The newly updated space for teens 13 to 17 years old on Royal Caribbean International vessels is hidden behind a secret speakeasy entrance. The dedicated venue, which has a gaming lounge and music, is a cozy place to hang out to meet other teens on the ship. There's also an outdoor patio where you can relax in the sun or chill out under the stars. Teens will find planned activities throughout the day at the lounge, including sports tournaments, a nightly teen disco and themed parties.

Social 100 is an exclusive new space for ages 13 to 17 on Wonder of the Seas . The outdoor space sits next to the waterslides and boasts a hot tub, lawn games, cozy seating, a selfie area, and a bar serving zero-proof cocktails and shakes. The indoor part of Social 100 features a gaming area, foosball tables, a vending machine and more comfortable spaces for teens to mingle.

Teens have plenty of activities they can do with their families on Royal Caribbean's ships, especially on the new Icon of the Seas, the first vessel in the Icon class. Slated for its inaugural sailing in January 2024, Wonder of the Seas will be the  world's largest cruise ship .  Cruisers of all ages will have endless opportunities for fun with more venues, activities and attractions than you've ever seen on a cruise ship.

Teens and their parents will appreciate Chill Island, a three-level pool deck with the first swim-up bar at sea. The new water park, Thrill Island, boasts six waterslides, including exciting firsts at sea, such as Pressure Drop, the first open freefall slide. If that's not enough to get the adrenaline pumping, teens can check out Crown's Edge – a combination thrill ride, skywalk and ropes course – or other Royal Caribbean favorites like Adrenaline Peak, Sports Court, the FlowRider surf simulator or the reimagined mini-golf course.

If you're hanging out in the new Surfside neighborhood on Icon, a dedicated space for young families, teens will have easy access to the supervised teens-only club, Social 020, from this open-air space.

When you head ashore to Perfect Day in CocoCay, one of the best  cruise line private islands , teen cruisers will find plenty of fun land-based activities like Thrill Waterpark and 1,600-foot-long zip lines. Be sure not to miss another thrilling experience: Up, Up and Away. The helium balloon ride soars 450 feet above the ground to the highest vantage point in the Bahamas , offering incredible panoramic views of the island and surrounding turquoise waters.

Holland America Line

Club HAL for teens (Deck 10 Midship Starboard) on Rotterdam by Holland America Line.

Michel Verdure | Courtesy of Holland America Line

The Kids Club on Holland America Line offers a fun supervised program for 13- to 17-year-old guests in an adult-free zone known as The Loft. The name is in the process of changing to High Score!, and you'll already find the updated concept on Oosterdam and Eurodam . The line's other ships will change over to the new venue throughout 2024. High Score! is a family game room that serves as a secret getaway for teens by day. In the evenings, entire families can come to play skeeball, board games and join in other activities.

The teens-only space (during the day) on Holland America Line resembles a New York artists loft where kids can listen to music, watch movies, play games and meet and hang out with same-age cruisers. Programs and activities at the current space, The Loft, include themed events, karaoke, a teen disco and nighttime activities such as Poker Night and video game tournaments. Youths can also participate in pingpong, basketball and other teens-only sporting events. If they still need more entertainment to keep them busy, the Kids Club offers origami lessons and watercolor painting as well as competitions in "Mario Kart," air hockey, foosball, pinball and more.

The Kids Club is complimentary for guests. The space is open daily, and you'll also find teen events around the ship. When it comes to dining, there are many teen-friendly dining options – where teens can even enjoy mocktails like nonalcoholic mojitos – at venues throughout the ship.

If you're cruising to Alaska with Holland America or other adventure-filled destinations, look for excursions that will appeal to younger family members like zip lining tours, trail hikes, float trips, helicopter tours and wilderness safaris. Alaska is a teen favorite, especially in Skagway (one of Alaska's top destinations ), where travelers can get a thrill out of dog mushing with a team of Alaskan huskies, taking a ride on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, or going on a rock climbing excursion.

Princess Cruises

Teens play Connect Four on Princess Cruises ship.

Courtesy of Princess Cruises

The modern Beach House lounge is the go-to place for passengers ages 13 to 17 to socialize and meet others their age when sailing on a Princess Cruises ship. Fun activities for teens include late-night movies and tournaments where they can challenge their peers in video games or at air hockey, foosball and table tennis. For more energetic activities, join in the fun during indoor dodgeball and basketball games. Or, learn new dance moves from some of the dancers in the crew, then hit the dance floor for one of the competitions. At the "Rock the Boat Party," teenagers can dress up and party the night away with mocktails and new friends on the ship.

"Movies Under the Stars" is one of Princess' signature events. Guests can watch movies, sporting events and concerts while bundled up with cozy blankets on the pool deck outdoors. Teens will enjoy the complimentary snacks – not to mention the special movie nights designed with them in mind, such as "Scary Movie Night." You might even find teen makeovers and glitter tattoos some evenings on the ship.

The line's three newest ships – Discovery Princess , Enchanted Princess and Sky Princess – offer the most activities for teens, but all of the ships in the fleet host youth programs in partnership with Discovery, along with plenty of other family-friendly activities. These offerings include Discovery Family and Animal Planet shore excursions and onboard entertainment like "The Voice of the Ocean," a musical competition.

Parents will be able to keep track of their busy teens anywhere on the ship with the state-of-the-art Princess MedallionClass system. The quarter-size wearable medallion and accompanying app allow guests to personalize their itinerary and locate family members and friends on board.

When Sun Princess launches in February 2024, as the first vessel in the line's Sphere class, it will feature Park19. This top-deck family activity zone boasts many outdoor adventures, including Sea Breeze – the first Rollglider at sea. The ADA-accessible seated ride offers a hang-gliding experience with panoramic views of the ocean and ports of call. Families and teens can also check out the climbing obstacle course, cargo nets and lookout points. The ship also has a recreational court – which offers pingpong, shuffleboard, fitness classes and more – and a splash zone where you can cool off after all the outdoor activities.

Inside Sun Princess, tweens and teens will find two centers just for them: Neon Grove and The Underground. Both spaces offer cozy and colorful areas for young adults to hang out, socialize, and play video games on the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. They'll also find foosball, skeeball and air hockey on top of planned activities like movie nights, dance parties and scavenger hunts.

Adventures by Disney

Adventures by Disney offers river and expedition cruises for the whole family; the itineraries span many choices and experiences for tweens and teens with a focus on culture, history, gastronomy and adventure. The river cruises are operated in partnership with AmaWaterways, while the expedition cruises are a collaboration with luxury French cruise line Ponant.

If you're sailing on the Adventures by Disney Rhine River Cruise itinerary, for example, guests can choose between various exciting excursions. While you're docked in Strasbourg, France , for the day, teen-friendly options include a tour of the Black Forest, complete with a toboggan run and a visit to a woodworking museum. Another choice here is to visit Germany's Europa-Park, a one-of-a-kind theme park located between the Black Forest and the Vosges Mountains. In Melk, Austria, on the Danube itinerary, families can go for a bike ride along the Danube River, hike to the castle in Dürnstein or visit a family-run apricot farm.

Another great feature of these cruises is that teens can opt to have dinner and evening get-togethers with same-age cruisers, so they don't have to dine with their parents or younger siblings every night. Adventure Guides also curate special activities for teens like game shows and pool parties.

In destinations like Antarctica, the Adriatic and the Galápagos Islands , expert naturalists lead tours during these bucket list trips. You might even find a bit of Disney storytelling woven into the presentations by the Adventure Guides.

Keep in mind if you have younger kids as well as teens that children need to be 5 or older to sail on the river cruises. For the Galápagos Islands expedition cruises, the minimum age for Junior Adventurers is 7, and for expeditions to the polar regions, kids need to be 10 years of age or older.

Carnival Celebration, which launched in November 2022, is the line's newest Excel-class ship. It features an expanded family and youth program, including its offerings for teens. The line also rolled out the new program fleetwide in spring 2023.

The Carnival Cruise Line teen programming at Circle "C" is for tweens ages 12 to 14, while Club O2 is for ages 15 to 17. In these venues you'll find entertainment like themed dance parties – and even a Carnival prom – as well as video games, movies and karaoke. Circle "C" stands for "Cruise, chill and connect," and that's what teens can do in this colorful, contemporary space with engaging counselors. New activities include anime drawing lessons and pop culture games at Circle "C." Older teens can foster new friendships while engaging in Japanese crafts and authentic tea ceremonies at Club O2.

Teens will appreciate Carnival's onboard water park, Waterworks, which includes a splash park and slides. Carnival Panorama even has the trampoline park Skyzone. Teenage passengers won't want to miss the first roller coaster at sea, BOLT, on Excel-class ships: Mardi Gras , Celebration and the upcoming Jubilee, scheduled to launch in December 2023.

For even more action, Vista-class ships feature Skyride. This two-lane, bike-like ride is suspended above the top deck of the ships and extends out over the ocean. More indoor fun can be found at Thrill Theater (on Horizon and Vista ), an immersive cinematic experience where you'll feel the seat rumble, the wind blow through your hair and even a spritz of water during the action-packed video.

This line's Teen Club features activities focused on kids 13 to 17. Some of the events offered for teens in the Camp at Sea program on Celebrity Cruises range from video game tournaments and sports competitions to culinary classes and silent disco parties. Teen cruisers can even book glass-blowing classes on Celebrity Solstice , Equinox and Eclipse . The offerings for young passengers are similar at either The Basement on Edge-series ships ( Edge , Apex , Beyond and Ascent, set to launch in November 2023) or at X Club on Solstice- and Millennium-class ships. Note, however, the line's three Galápagos expedition vessels do not have the teen venues. Families who need accessible accommodations, activities and programs will also find autism-friendly cruises on Celebrity.

When it comes to pampering, Celebrity's spas offer spa menus for 13- to 17-year-olds. Teens can book facials that are designed for young sensitive skin or have express pedicures and manicures. When you're ready to relax, schedule a two-by-two massage, where parents and kids can have a side-by-side treatment.

Celebrity also offers family-focused excursions that highlight cultural attractions, wildlife sightings and adventure. Some of these tours include seeing gentoo, king and Magellanic penguins in the Falkland Islands; taking an aerial tram through the treetop canopies of a rainforest in Costa Rica ; and going on a small culinary or sightseeing group excursion in Europe and other destinations around the world. On Caribbean sailings – especially when school is out for summer or on holidays – Celebrity has additional family-friendly shore excursions on its five- and seven-night sailings.

Carnival kids club: A guide to Camp Ocean on Carnival Cruise Line

I f you're contemplating your first family cruise, you might be wondering if Carnival Cruise Line has a kids club. The answer is a resounding yes.

Carnival offers a fabulous kids club called Camp Ocean for preschool- and school-aged children, plus separate hangouts with age-appropriate activities for teens and tweens. It even offers special programming for babies and toddlers. Events take place in cool kids-only hangouts and are staffed by youth counselors with prior education or childcare experience.

Some kids want to stay in cruise camp all day, while others will check into Camp Ocean for an hour or two and spend the rest of the cruise exploring the ship with their family. No matter how your young cruisers choose to use the kids' facilities, here is everything you need to know about Camp Ocean on Carnival Cruise Line.

What are the Carnival kids club age groupings?

Camp Ocean divides young cruisers into three main age groups: Penguins (2 to 5 years old), Stingrays (6 to 8 years old) and Sharks (9 to 11 years old). Kids do not need to be toilet trained to attend dropoff programming, though youth staff will not change diapers for older kids ages 5 and up. The Turtles program is an addendum to Camp Ocean for little kids ages 6 months to 2 years.

Circle C is the tween hangout for the kids in the middle, ages 12 to 14.

Club O2 invites teens ages 15 to 17 to chill out with new friends.

What activities are available for kids in Carnival's Camp Ocean?

Camp Ocean offers a schedule of kid-friendly activities, sometimes split into three age groups and sometimes with mixed ages. The daily schedule might include arts and crafts, sports and games, movie watching, science-based activities, face painting and video game play. Some free play and socializing time is scheduled as well.

To stay true to its name, the program has access to more than 400 ocean-themed activities, such as creating penguins out of Oreo cookies, designing aquariums and creating sea salt art.

Carnival has a partnership with Dr. Seuss, so his whimsical characters influence Camp Ocean's activities. The Seuss-a-palooza parade and story time is a big hit with little sailors who can meet life-size versions of their favorite storybook characters, like the Cat in the Hat.

The cruise line has also joined forces with NASA to offer a Space Cruisers program to Camp Ocean campers. NASA-inspired activities might include playing space-themed bingo, building Mars rovers, designing bridges and learning about how objects orbit in space.

At night, Camp Ocean turns into Night Owls, a late-night, mixed-age group slumber party. It offers movies, toys and snacks for kids, as well as rest areas (including cribs) for sleepy cruisers. Special parties called Owl Jams are held on select evenings, either for kids ages 2 to 11 or 6 to 11. These themed parties might include a Caribbean party with a tropical theme and limbo contest, a Party Animals event with face painting and games, or a Rock N Glow Party with an '80s theme and glow sticks.

The littlest cruisers under age 2 can come to Carnival's cruise camp for special programming at select times on sea days. Parents and guardians can either drop off babies and toddlers for a fee or stay and play with their kids for free. On port days, they can drop off their little ones for group babysitting while they explore ashore, but they must be onboard during mealtimes as Camp Ocean will not provide lunch to this group.

Turtles activities might include sensory play, story time, arts and crafts and dancing.

What activities are available for teens in Circle C and Club O2?

Tweens in Circle C can participate in games of all kinds (bean bag toss, card games, kids vs. staff), play video games, watch movies, make crafts, roam the ship on scavenger hunts and bust a move at evening dance parties. A Circle C Leader is on hand to organize activities and keep everyone making friends and having fun.

Club O2 counselors know that teens don't need a lot of handholding but do need some intriguing events to keep them from wandering the ship and getting into trouble. Activities for teens include movies, sports and games (basketball, dodgeball, capture the flag), video games, music, karaoke, foosball and evening parties, including Carnival's version of prom.

What are Carnival's Camp Ocean hours of operation?

The Carnival kids club hours vary by day and by port of call. Camp Ocean's schedule on sea days runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On port days, activities start from the time the ship arrives in port until 10 p.m., with a break from noon to 1 p.m. for a supervised lunch at the buffet. Family programming might be scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. on port days.

Most children need to be signed in and out of Carnival cruise camp by a designated adult. However, parents and guardians can give Sharks (ages 9 to 11) permission to sign themselves in and out.

A youth staff-supervised Kids' Only Dinner is offered nightly, except for embarkation day, from 6 to 6:50 p.m. at the buffet.

The Night Owls late-night activities take place from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. All kids must be picked up by an adult from Night Owls; no one can sign themselves out after 10 p.m.

Circle C and Club O2 offer supervised programming from noon to 5 p.m. on sea days and from 4 to 6 p.m. on port days. Complimentary evening activities run nightly from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.

How much is the Carnival kids club?

Day and evening programming at Camp Ocean, Circle C and Club O2 is included in your cruise fare.

The Night Owls late-night activities for kids ages 6 months to 11 years old cost $7.50 per child per hour, plus an 18% service charge. Owl Jams cost $17 per event, per child, plus the service charge.

Turtles drop-off programming for kids ages 6 months to 2 years also costs $7.50 per child, per hour, plus an 18% service charge. The price is the same on port and sea days.

What else does Carnival offer families with children?

Carnival cruise ships are extremely family-friendly. Kids will love the onboard water parks, often with multiple waterslides and splash playgrounds, as well as the onboard pools. Ping pong, foosball, arcades, minigolf and sports courts are common across the fleet. Giant movie screens by the pools show family favorites in the evening.

Certain ships have ropes courses, roller coasters, suspended cycling rides and IMAX and thrill theaters.

Additional family programming might include scavenger hunts, bingo, trivia and craft-making. Carnival also offers Build-A-Bear workshops for an additional fee.

Related: The 10 wildest attractions you'll find on a cruise ship

Parents should be warned that kids might want to spend their entire allowance at Carnival's onboard candy store, Cherry on Top. Redirect them to the multiple onboard soft-serve ice cream stations, often by the buffet or pool deck, where treats are free.

Possibly the best specialty dining event on board for young families is the Dr. Seuss-themed Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast, perfect for preschoolers. The menu is filled with colorful breakfast treats inspired by the storybooks, and life-size characters pose for photos with all the families.

Speaking of food, Carnival's fast-casual staples, such as Guy's Burger Joint (created by celebrity chef Guy Fieri), Blue Iguana Cantina, Pizzeria del Capitano and Shaq's Big Chicken are hits with kids of all ages — and their parents. The main dining room always has a kids menu, but for a treat, splash out on a night at Bonsai Teppanyaki, where the chefs are the star of the show.

Bottom line: Camp Ocean, the Carnival cruise kids club

Carnival's kids club offers age-appropriate fun for babies, kids and teens. It can give parents a break to enjoy a leisurely dinner at a specialty restaurant and allow kids to make friends to play with on board. Camp Ocean's flexibility lets families use its programming as much or as little as they like to fit their travel style and enhance their vacation. Plus, with free activities from morning until late at night, kids will have a blast without breaking mom's or dad's travel budget.

Ex-waffle house worker in stolen suv told police it was a tip from customer: authorities.

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

A woman was arrested after claiming that the stolen SUV she was driving was a birthday tip from a Waffle House customer, according to the Tulsa Police Department.

Authorities said Angela Harrison, 53, was arrested and was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.

On April 1, just before 4 p.m., officers received an alert about a stolen white Jeep Liberty and tracked the stolen vehicle until they were able to stop it during a traffic stop.

Police said Harrison claimed she was at a gas station, just an hour before the stop, when she ran into a former customer of hers when she worked at the Waffle House.

Harrison told officers the customer gave her $10 cash and the white Jeep Liberty because her 53rd birthday was coming up in a few weeks.

However, police said the jeep was reported stolen before Christmas, and detectives had already obtained a surveillance photo of Harrison in the vehicle from January 14.

Angela Harrison told police the customer gave her money and the white Jeep Liberty because her birthday was coming up.

Harrison admitted to officers that she was the woman in the surveillance photo, but said she could not explain how she could have been in possession of the vehicle in January when she claimed it was gifted to her only an hour before.

Police said the owner of the SUV died last year and that the vehicle was returned to his family.

Volga River Cruises in Russia

Volga river cruising in Russia places you in another time. The longest and largest river in Europe stretches from Ivan the Terrible to Catherine the Great. Today, live along the central artery of Russia looks like it always has - the villages, the churches, the people, just like an old painting you have seen in a gallery.

The Volga flows through central Russia into the Caspian Sea and is often called the national river of Russia. 11 of the 20 largest cities of the country, including the capital Moscow, are in Volga's watershed. Some of the world's largest reservoirs can be found along the river, which has a symbolic meaning in Russian culture, referred to as Mother Volga (Volga Matushka) in Russian folklore and literature.

Explore the land of the Tsars while sailing down the historic Volga river, typically between Moscow and St Petersburg , the traditional homeports (of embarkation and debarkation). Tour landmarks are the Red Square and Kremlin in Moscow, the Hermitage and Catherine Palace in St Petersburg.

Russian River Cruises - CruiseMapper

Once unthinkable as a cruise vacation destination, Russia is today more accessible than ever, with stops along its largest European lakes and rivers. For river travel lovers accustomed to European itineraries, the Russian experience will be quite different. Russia has a special feel of uniquely designed riverboats. Built to handle larger lakes (Lake Ladoga for example, is the largest European freshwater body of water), these vessels usually feature larger size and capacity (up to six decks), deeper draft, and most of them are refurbished instead of being newbuild.

The itineraries offered are activity-intensive in Moscow and St Petersburg, with long periods of cruising and less ashore time in the middle. Smaller "Golden Ring" cities (so named due to their historic significance) are full of icon-riddled monasteries and Orthodox churches. Most cruise lines hire local experts and fill the days of sailing along the river with lectures on country's history, cooking demonstrations and language lessons.

Most of the tours offered by the companies sailing along Volga River are identical, so customers choosing between the different itineraries should look at how the river ships spend the time within Moscow and St. Petersburg. Some lines have their guests stay onboard, which can be as far as 1 hour out of both cities. Others put their clients up at hotels near the center of the city, with several meals at customer's expense.

Compared with other river routes, Russia features a short season, between early May and late October, with high season in June (known as White Nights because of the endless daylight), July and August. Even if the weather is chilly, there are some advantages to sailing early or late: you'll beat the crowds which can make a visit to the Hermitage a bear. Most Russian museums lack air-conditioning, and while the climate is generally temperate, in the summer Moscow often experiences high humidity heat waves.

Remember to think about your Russian visa at least 2 months before your voyage, to have enough time to fill out the paperwork, including a lengthy online application. And don't forget that the Russian language uses the Cyrillic alphabet. Even in the cities, you'll rarely find signs in English, so learning some letters and a few phrases will help you get around.

Doninturflot-Orthodox Cruise Company

Orthodox Cruise Company operates a fleet of USSR-design large river ships and serves mainly foreign tourists. The parent company Doninturflot (established in 1992) is the shipowner and manages the fleet.

  • Doninturflot started operations with the ships MS Maxim Litvinov, MS Mikhail Sholokhov and MS Sergei Dyagilev.
  • Since 2002, Docturflot charters Akademik Glushkov (currently MS Igor Stravinsky) owned by OOO Rosflotinvest.
  • In 2004 was acquired MS Anton Chekhov from Yenisei River Shipping Company (Russia).
  • In 2006 were acquired MS Peter Tchaikovsky and MS Ivan Bunin from the Moscow-based cruise shipping company "Passenger Port".
  • In 2008 was bought MS General Lavrinenkov from "Ukrrechflot" (Ukraine).
  • In 2011 was bought MS Marshal Koshevoy (from Ukrrichflot, Ukraine) but in April 2013 the ship was sold to Viking Cruises (now operates as Viking Akun ).
  • In 2016, was purchased MS Tikhi Don from the UK-based Grand Circle Travel company. In 2017, the ship started operations for Orthodox Cruise Company serving international tourists.

Imperial River Cruises Russia

"Imperial River Cruises Russia" was founded in 1992 and operates on inland waterways in both Russia and Ukraine. Company's chartered ships navigate on the rivers Volga, Don, Neva, Svir, Dnieper (also on the Danube) and the Russian lakes Onega and Ladoga.

Also offered are itineraries Moscow-Volgograd and Moscow-Rostov, roundtrips from Kiev, and even grand voyages connecting two seas - Baltic and Black. Also offered are themed cruises - especially on food and music, with live performances by grand orchestras and choirs.

Imperial River Cruises Russia has an exclusive partnership with "Orthodox Cruise Company" - one of Russia's largest tour operators. As their names suggest, both companies target mainly foreign tourists - booking in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia. Ships' capacity varies between 180-250 passengers. English (or German) speaking licensed tour guides are provided on all excursions. The daily onboard entertainment program offers live musical performances, folk shows, enrichment lectures.

Russian cruise ships

Currently, in Russia is operated a huge fleet of over 200 river cruise ships. All these vessels were built during the USSR (Soviet Union) times, roughly in the period between 1950-1990. Depending on class and series, these boats differ in terms of size, equipment (different engine designs), passenger capacity, onboard facilities and venues, cabins (types and number). Amenities additionally differ by shipowner (cruise company).

Russian river cruise ship

All these old-design Russian ships were completely refurbished and rebuilt for their new shipowners, Some of these ships are operated (via partnerships or under charter) also by foreign companies (like Viking, CroisiEurope, Uniworld, AMAwaterways, Grand Circle, Nicko). During their multi-million-dollar drydock refits, vessels passenger capacities were considerably reduced to improve travel comfort and safety.

Most boats are of the following classes:

  • "Rossiya" (Project 785, 36 vessels built 1952-1958)
  • "Baykal" (Project 646, 15 units built 1953-1956)
  • "Rodina" (Project 588, 49 vessels built 1954-1961)
  • "Oktyabrskaya Revolyutsiya" (Project 26-37, 14 units built 1957-1962)
  • "Dunay" (Project 305, 47 vessels built between 1959-1964)
  • "Kuybyshev" (Project OL400, 9 units built 1975-1983)
  • "Vladimir Ilyich" (Project 301, 22 vessels built between 1975-1983)
  • "Dmitri Furmanov" (Project 302, 27 vessels built between 1983-1991)

Regardless of their age, all these motor ships undergo regular drydock refurbishments , machinery and safety checks, scheduled repairs (including annual surveys). Drydocks are every 5 years and include repairs, hull inspection, propulsion-steering inspection, general maintenance works.

Each ship is equipped with life-saving appliances (lifeboats and rafts) in amounts exceeding the boat's max passenger and crew capacity. Each cabin is equipped with lifejackets with illustrated instructions in several languages. All ships are equipped with modern fire-fighting systems. Crew and staff are experienced and highly professional certified employees.

Here were exiled the Ivan Terrible’s 7th wife and her son Tsarevich Dmitry. Soon after, Tsarevich was mysteriously murdered here. Soon after, a dedicated to this event church ("Church of St. Demetrius on the Blood") was erected. Within the Uglich Kremlin walls is the town's oldest building - "Prince’s Palace". Other attractions are St. John’s Church and the Transfiguration Cathedral.

In the 19th century, Nizhniy became the trade center of the whole state as it was the place of the biggest fair in the Russian Empire. A proverb of that time says: "Moscow is the heart of Russia, St. Petersburg is its head, and Nizhniy Novgorod - its pocketbook". The city was renamed "Gorky" in Soviet times, in honor of the writer Maxim Gorky, born there. Until 1990, Nizhniy Novgorod was “closed” to foreigners as USSR protected its military secrets.
