Travel in the Sims 4

Ready to hop of to Mt. Komorebi to test the slopes? Going for a weekend getaway to Granite Falls? Or ready for the adventure of a lifetime in Batuu? Not so fast! Not without a handy license and motor vehicle registration for that car you bought from the catalogue, or a subway pass for the children, or travel reservations and your passport for that international destination.

Speaking of going on a trip; you must book plane reservations and put down a vacation rental deposit. And let's not forget, you must have a passport to visit far away locales like Selvadorada. Just going from Willow Creek to Grandma's in Newcrest? Make sure you have gas in the car, your subway pass is ready, or your bicycle is registered. And if your teens are sick of using the subway, they can take formal or informal driving lessons to get ready for licensure. Travel free and loose no more!

How It Works

Most options are available on the phone and computer (under my general pie menus) but if you don't see one in one place, check the other. Most career interactions are available on the computer and tablet the exception being location check-in which requires the phone.

Domestic Travel

All active sims (excluding infants and toddlers) will need a way to travel in order to leave their home lot. This only affects travel via the phone menu and relationship panel as well as elevators and travel boards. It does not affect travel from the street. You can also only have one primary mode of transportation at a time - the most recent mode of transportation selected will always be the primary. The following modes of transportation are available:

Subway Pass

All sims child and up can use a subway pass. Subway passes are the cheapest mode of transportation and cost between $20 for a Youth 7-day pass and $130 for an Adult 28 day pass. Discounts are available for children, teens, and elders. A 7, 14, or 28 Day pass are available. When a Sim's pass expires, they will not be able to travel and will need to get a new one. The subway pass will be delivered to the Sim's inventory.

Bike (Requires Discover University)

Your sim can purchase a bike as usual. Once a sim has a bike, it will need to be registered. This essentially, as far as the mod is concerned, marks the sim who registers the bike as the owner. What that means is that it will consider that Sim to have a bike but anyone else in the household will either need to register their own bikes, buy a car, or get a subway pass. Registered bikes will need to be serviced every 21 days. When in need of service, it will be unusable and until sent in. In order to be serviced, it must first be placed in the Sim's inventory. Servicing takes about 90 minutes.

Buying a Car

All Sims teen and up are eligible to purchase a car (from Buy mode under Outdoor/Transportation). Each car has a price tag, an eco footprint, and an environmental score. If a Sim buys a sedan - or an average eco footprint car - it ranks differently than a muscle car/utility vehicle like a van or pickup truck or a hybrid vehicle like the euro car (from GTW) or a hybrid version of the BG coupe.

Mid-sized sedans (normal eco footprint of -1) are great values as they are reasonably fuel efficient and require a normal amount of maintenance. Muscle Car or Utility Vehicles are larger and thus are not as fuel efficient as sedans or hybrids but they also don't require as much maintenance. Hybrid vehicles cost more but provide better fuel mileage and require maintenance slightly less often than sedans.

License and Registration

In order to actually drive the car bought, first, they must apply for a license at local DMV. Wait times vary. Once a license has been obtained, the license will be in the Sim's inventory and then they can purchase a car/title. The Sim who registers the car is the owner of that vehicle. Note that when the game loads there is a small, random chance for sims young adult and up to already have their license.

Driving Lessons

Teens can get a license only if they complete Driver's Education lessons ($50/lesson) or ask an older family member (who has a license, a car with fuel and doesn't need maintenance) to teach them how to drive. This option is only available if the car is not in the inventory! A hidden driving skill will determine when they are eligible. Driving lessons, formal or informal, increase the skill, though formal driving lessons are noticeably more effective. When they are eligible to get their license, you will receive a notification.

Fuel and Maintenance

Service maintenance depends on the type of car but usually is needed between every 14-28 days, costs between $150-$250 depending on type of car, and takes about 2 hours and gas is usually needed every 7-10 days. Maintenance takes about 2-3 hours. Filling up takes about 15 minutes and costs between $20-$30 depending on type of car. Your Sim will receive a notification when it is time for service and when the gas gauge is low. If your Sim no longer wants to deal with the hassle of owning a car, they are able to sell it. Note that the only way to get rid of a car is to use the Sell Car interaction on the car or transfer ownership of the car.

International Travel

To travel  internationally to Windenburg, Selvadorada, Sulani, Batuu, Granite Falls, or Mt. Komorebi (if your sim does not live there) requires a passport and advance reservations. They will then go to the airport for about an hour before heading to their final destination.

Sims can obtain an initial passport by filling out an application online and then going to the Passport Office. Once at the passport office, Sims will choose a shipping speed to receive your passport. The options are to receive it within 12 hours to the Sim's inventory (Express Service), within 12-24 hours in the mail (Expedited Service), or within 24-48 hours in the mail (Standard Service). Sims will pay a fee for both the passport itself and the shipping. The shipping speed chosen will be for all Sims present at the Passport Office.

Advance Reservations

Once Sims have a passport in their inventory, they are able to book travel reservations and put down vacation rental deposits. A vacation rental deposit and travel reservations are required before a Sim can go on vacation/travel international. Sims may choose a range they're willing to put down for the deposit.

For travel reservations they must specify the whether they are flying in Economy seating or First Class. They will receive a random buff based on the fare class and a chance to get travel-sick and/or loose their luggage. Fees are adjusted accordingly. Only one reservation for travel and vacation rental per household is needed.

Traveling to International Locales

Once a sim has a passport, booked a vacation rental reservation, and flight accommodations, they will receive a buff that tells them they are travel ready. While this buff is active, their reservations and all preparations are considered complete.

 When they're ready to travel internationally, Sims can use the phone Travel menu to "Go on Vacation" as usual. It will now be unlocked for the trip! The whole travel party will then travel via a flight (rabbithole) for a few hours. At the end of the flight, the sims will arrive at their destination via the map picker. 

You may also temporarily see your sims on lot before going to their final destination after the airport.

Passport Renewal

A passport expires after 36 Days. A Sim will then need to fill out a similar application/paperwork online and then mail the paperwork to the passport agency. The Sim should receive their passport within 24 hours.

Seasoned Traveler Aspiration

Note that due to the nature of this aspiration it requires several packs: Jungle Adventures, City Living, Snowy Escape, Outdoor Retreat, and Island Living to complete. It also is greatly enhanced by frankk's Language Barriers as a few of the objectives include learning languages but you can still complete each level without the mod as it is not required.

Prepared Traveler Reward Trait

These Sims enjoy traveling all over the world. They have an easier time learning new languages, socializing with strangers, and have more fun when they are not in their home region. Works well with Language Barriers .

Travel Critic Career

Note that due to the nature of this career it requires City Living.

A brand new 6 level semi-active career inspired by the CL Critic career with a travel-focused twist. Sims focus on writing columns, reviewing food and drinks and performances, visiting different neighborhoods and different worlds, talking with local sims, and excelling at photography. Brand new work from home interactions, short hours, and a boost in language learning skills (boost requires Language Barriers mod). Levels are:

• Culture Writer
• Travel Blogger
• Chief Travel Critic

Download Instructions:

1. Download the mod below or here and grab the General Pie menus.

2. Install the the main mod, the General pie menus, and the BG required cars.

3. Install International Travel option if you want to use the passport and need to make travel reservations and have gameplay related to international travel

4. Install Domestic Travel if you want cars, bikes, driving, public transportation, and gameplay related to domestic travel

5. Install the Aspiration if you have the packs required. 6. Install the Career if you have the packs required. 7. Install the optional cars for which you have packs.

8. Install the optional modules to allow for automation of licenses and subway passes (Domestic) and passports (International).

1.) For the purpose of this mod Windenburg, Mt. Komorebi, and Sulani are treated as international destinations in addition to Batuu, Granite Falls, Tartosa, and Selvadorada for those who do not live there so they count as travel abroad for the aspiration and career and are tracked locations in the passport even though you don't necessarily need to plan a vacation in order to visit them like the others.

2.) Your Sims will always be able to travel regardless of the mod if you zoom out and use the map picker from the street. The mod therefore only affects travel by any other means. Just FYI in case you really need to get somewhere without the restriction of the mod.

3.) Note it takes the mod about 20 sim minutes (20 seconds) to load fully. If you cannot access a feature make sure you let the game load for at least half an hour/30 seconds.

4.) There is a cheat menu available with the game cheats. Please note that the option to Reset Mod truly resets the mod to when it was first loaded - all progress for licensure/passports/etc. is lost and the passport/license/subway pass will be removed from your inventory. If you have any test versions of the mod prior to release, I actually do suggest you reset.

The Sims 4 Custom Content: World Traveller Aspiration Overview

A custom Aspiration for The Sims 4 that caught my attention recently is the World Traveller Aspiration by KiraSims4Mods . It reminded me of The Sims 3 World Adventures and when you would take your Sims to explore around the world. However, this time it would be some popular locations in The Sims 4 universe instead, some of which I haven’t visited in a long time.

The aspiration itself has four levels to complete, each with four different tasks. As the Custom Aspiration focuses on several different locations in The Sims 4, you will need to own The Sims 4 Snowy Escape, City Living and Island Living expansion packs as well as The Sims 4 Jungle Adventure and Outdoor Retreat.

Once you have created your Sim in Create A Sim or changed an existing Sims Aspiration, you will find the World Traveller Aspiration under the Location Category .

Once your Sim has completed the World Traveller Aspirations, they will be awarded $2,000, the Great Storyteller and Worldly Knowledge Reward Traits.

• Great Storyteller – Great Storytellers always succeed at telling bigger and better stories!
• Worldly Knowledge – These Sims are better at socializing during Social Events and enjoy ordering food from market stalls. They also can “Negotiate a Discount” at market stalls, which gives them an advantage over other bargaining techniques.

Download & Install

To install this custom aspiration, simply extract all the .package  files to  Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods  folder. Make sure you have Mods / CC enabled in your game options!

How to Travel in Sims 4

Even Sims that enjoy staying indoors need a change of pace. Going to different places may form new relationships or build new skills. And it’s fun to go to and explore a place in town you’ve never been to before. Or even take a long vacation to escape the boring day-to-day life. Traveling is always exciting and here’s how to travel in Sims 4 .

Travelling Across the Map

Your town has multiple residential buildings where other Sims live and some public places like gyms, museums, lounges, and parks. And you can travel to all of them. There are two ways to access the map and travel around town:

• Press “M” to open the map then choose a destination and companions.
• Select “Travel” on your smartphone. Choose your companions and then the map will open to pick a destination

You don’t have to choose a companion if you want to travel alone. Just don’t pick anyone and continue. On the other hand, if you do want to have someone accompanying you there are no requirements regarding the friendship level. You can pick literally any Sim you know.

Once you are there, take your time exploring the place. A lot of the locations might have things you don’t have at home yet so it’s a good way to learn something new. At a bar, you can learn how to mix drinks, work out at the gym, and more. Don’t forget to check time as it can fly by very quickly and you will need to head home. Traveling home works the same way, just choose your house as a destination.

Flying to the Different World

Apart from traveling around your homeworld, you can also travel to another one. There are two types of worlds: Residential and Destination . Residential are the worlds Sims live in and Destination are made specifically to act as a tourist spot.

Traveling to another world means taking a vacation. Make sure that your sim took time off work and will not miss out on much if they leave for a few days or weeks. To book a vacation find the “Take a Vacation” option on your smartphone. Then you will be able to choose a destination and book accommodation. If you want, you can take up to 8 other Sims with you but in this case, the accommodation needs to be sorted accordingly.

As it is a vacation, you will not be able to stay in the other world indefinitely . Or technically you can, by constantly extending the length of your stay. But that will require a lot of money and a constant passive income for you to pay for rent. Your work opportunities are tied to the homeworld and if you travel back home the vacation will end with no refund.

Residential Worlds

Some of the Residential Worlds already have rental lots for you to rent. But not all of them. What you can do in this case is build one yourself and mark it as a “Rental Lot” for others to rent out. This is the most convenient way if you are playing with multiple households and using them to shape the world specifically the way you want it (maybe with the help of some cheat codes).

Destination Worlds

“Outdoor Retreat”, “Journey to Batuu” and “Jungle Adventure” expansion packs each offer one Destination World for you to travel to. Destination worlds are dedicated tourist areas and thus the attractions and lots are different. There are going to be hotels for you to stay in and activities to do while on vacation.

Now that you know how to travel in Sims 4 , go ahead and explore the worlds. Explore as much as you can and take photos as memories. Whether it is just around town or on the edge of the galaxy, travel is a great pastime and opportunity to meet new Sims and learn something new.

Using a Sim's phone or computer, find the options for travel and select "Take a Vacation." Players can invite the Sims they plan on vacationing with, where they will go, and the number of days they'd like to stay. Many destination worlds have pre-made rental houses, but players can add more rental lots by changing lot types in build mode or simulating vacations through their storytelling.

The Ultimate Geeky Getaway

• Activities: Lightsaber Dueling, Cosplay, Gambling, Food & Drink

For Sims who geek out about Star Wars and dream of dueling with lightsabers, Batuu is the perfect far, far-away galaxy planet to visit . Whether they are drawn to the Resistance or the First Order, Batuu offers Sims a chance to join factions and complete themed aspirations. Sims can look forward to competing in epic lightsaber duels, trying their luck at Sabacc (a gambling game), and tasting the planet's exotic cuisine.

Sims who travel to Batuu must do so in style! There are plenty of Star Wars- themed outfits and costumes that Sims can wear during their stay. Immerse each Sim into the Star Wars universe by cosplaying as characters like Princess Leia or Darth Vader. Fulfill Sims' fantasies by interacting with Batuu's famous townies: Rey, Kylo Ren, Hondo Ohnaka, and Vi Moradi. Del Sol Valley is another world players often overlook when it comes to vacationing. Sims looking to mingle with the elite should travel to the Orchid A Go Go lounge, where celebrities host meet-and-greets and open mic nights. The hotspot in town, the Studio PBP lounge, is the location of the prestigious Starlight Accolades award show. This night of glamour, excitement, and drama is a once-in-a-lifetime event that is not to be missed.

For Sims with a passion for film and television, the Plumbob Pictures Museum is a must-visit attraction. Tour through the museum's extensive collection of props, costumes, and memorabilia from Del Sol Valley's most iconic productions.​​​​​​​ Stroll down Starlight Boulevard, the Sim version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This is easier for Sims veterans as it is the same as The Sims 3. It's MUCH easier to change the angle of the view and rotate the screen. I also suggest you make sure edge scrolling is on, as it's easier to move about the neighborhood, but that is a personal preference. You can still move around by holding right click.

Taking Screenshots and Making Videos of Sims 4 'C' and 'V' will take a Screenshot or record a Video, respectively. These are stored in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Screenshots and The Sims 4/Recorded Videos. You can record video and take screenshots while in build mode to show off your skills!

The Sims 4 November 13, 2018 patch introduced a first person mode to the game. Here are the controls for this mode of play. Click Here to Learn More About First Person Mode and see a Video Demonstration .

Buy & Build Mode Hotkeys

Build Mode Controls When you destroy buy mode objects in buy/build mode , you will get some of your money back. This applies whether you are using the sledgehammer or the hand tool with delete. Build mode objects/walls/patterns specifically grant a full refund, as they do not depreciate in value like chairs/electronics/etc.

The Design Tool is super useful for making a room's color scheme match up. By pressing 'R' you can select objects that have already been placed and pick one of the available color schemes for that object. This lets you see how it will match other objects in the room.

Objects removed by placing a room on top of them or by other means may be found in your Household Inventory.

Other Controls - Gallery and Camera Pressing F4 will open the Gallery, where you can view other players' creations and add them to your neighborhood. There is a lot to this, and we'll eventually make a guide to inserting homes and Sims from the Gallery, but it's pretty easy.

You should also be aware of the camera controls button in the top right corner.

Drones are objects introduced in The Sims 4: Get Famous and The Sims 4: Discover University . There are two drones Sims can buy in Get Famous , Up and Adam Streaming Drone and Gotta Stream 'em All Streaming Drone. These drones are used in the media production skill and are used to record and stream videos remotely. Discover University introduces quadcopter drones that can be crafted at the robot crafting station with the robotics skill.

Sims can record themselves, other Sims or record the neighborhood; drones will follow or fly around for a period of time before ending their recording where they are. Once their recording is done, Sims can open the drone to transfer their recorded video to the More Views Video Station . Drones can either make travel videos, or skill videos. Skill videos are made when the majority of the recording is of a Sim practicing or using a skill .

There are a total of 18 worlds in the Sims 4 , each of which has neighborhoods and additional areas. Sims can freely explore the terrain, interact with Sims, and visit stores in their neighborhood, which has helped make the Sims a more interactive experience for players. In this post, we’re going to explore each world and what you can do with free roam.

Although there are 18 worlds in the Sims 4, some may not be accessible if you don’t have all the expansion packs. For example, Forgotten Hollow is only available with the Vampires DLC, so your Sims can’t travel to this location without buying that pack.

Let’s take an in-depth look at each location in the game that your Sims can visit.

The Sims 4 Base Game Worlds

Willow creek.

Willow Creek is a part of one of the two worlds that was shipped with The Sims 4 base game along with Oasis Springs. It was designed to look like New Orleans.

Overview: Willow Creek is considered to be a quiet get-away from most Sims who want to take a load off and relax in an upper-American suburbia. Players can take a ride on the ferry boat and see the gorgeous lights at night. You also have the possibility of seeing the legendary Bob Pancakes.

Neighborhoods: Willow Creek has six neighborhoods and one secret lot that’s entirely separated from the rest of the community. We’ll explain these neighborhoods in-depth in the next section.

• Magnolia Blossom Park
• Sylvan Glade (Secret Lot)

Lots: There are 16 residential lots and 5 community lots the player can choose from. Players can either move into these lots, move families out, or bulldoze these lots. At the base game, there are 4 inhabited lots, 9 uninhabited lots, and 3 empty lots.  All community lots are bought.

Community Lots: Players can visit The Blue Velvet (a nightclub), Magnolia Blossom (a park), Movers & Shakers (the gym), Municipal Muses (The Museum), and Willow Creek Archives (the library).

Climate (Sims 4 Seasons): Willow Creek experienced four seasons that include cold winters with strong blizzards and hot summers with thunderstorms.  There are chances for precipitation throughout the spring.

Climate: (No Seasons): Willow Creek stays sunny all year.

Oasis Springs

Oasis Springs is a part of one of the two worlds that were shipped with The Sims 4 base game along with Willows Creek. It was designed to mimic the Southwestern U.S.A.

Overview: Oasis Spring is considered to be a quiet and serene suburb that’s warm, dry, and sunny all year round. Players can take a trip to the old forgotten mind as a tourist attraction. You can also take a stroll down to Oasis Springs for fishing.

Neighborhoods: Oasis Springs has six neighborhoods and one secret lot that’s entirely separated from the rest of the community. We’ll explain these neighborhoods in-depth in the next section.

• Bedrock Strait
• Parched Prospect
• Skyward Palms
• Acquisition Butte
• Mirage Canyon
• Desert Bloom Park
• Forgotten Grotto (Secret Lot)

Community Lots: Players can visit Burners & Builders (the gym), Desert Bloom (the park), The Futures Past (the museum), Rattlesnake Juice (the bar), and The Solar Flare (lounge).

Climate (Sims 4 Seasons): Oasis Spring is very hot and hard rains. In the Summer, the heat waves are consistent, but in Spring and fall the weather is sunny and hot. In the Winter, Oasis Springs will become overcast.

Climate: (No Seasons): Oasis Springs has heat waves all year.

Newcrest is was give to The Sims 4 base game players for free via the June 11, 2015 game update. Newcrest isn’t based on any city in particular, but it does resemble a modern suburb.

Overview: Newcrest targets its neighborhood towards Sims that are looking for empty space. It’s peaceful and quiet, so you can find refuge here from the busy city life. With ample room to job, most residents are in shape and love to exercise.

Neighborhoods: Newcrest has three neighborhoods.

• Llama Lagoon
• Ridgeline Drive

Lots: There are 15 residential lots, all of which are empty.

Climate (Sims 4 Seasons): Newcrest has distinct seasons that have hot Summers, cold Winters, and a mild Spring and Fall. You’ll see your fair share of thunderstorms, rainy days, and snowstorms.

Climate: (No Seasons): Newcrest has mild temperatures all year.

The Sims 4: Outdoor Retreat World

From here on out, all of the worlds below are only available through expansion packs.

Granite Falls

Granite Falls is a naturescape that has properties surrounded by trees. This expansion pack revolves around camping, but your Sims can also buy property. Once the Sim gets settled in, they can explore the world by going hiking, making campfires, and interacting with other Sims.

Ranger Stations are available around Granite Falls as a way to purchase objects. Bears can come into contact with your Sim to make them feel tense.

Overview: Granite Falls asks Sims to get down and dirty by camping or choose to stay bougie and stay in a beautiful cabin.  With so many insects, you’re going to run into a lot of bugs, so pack your bug spray and mosquito net. To experience nature at its best, look no further than Granite Falls.

Lots: Granite Falls has 5 accommodations and 1 national park. Players can edit the lots by changing the build or changing lot assignments.

Accommodation:

• Campgrounds (§111 per day)
• Forest Hideaway (2 bed, 2 baths, §635 per day)
• Green Getaway (1 bed, 1 bath, §397 per day)
• Lakeside Retreat (4 bed, 3 baths, §893 per day)
• Riverside Retreat (1 bed, 1 bath, §282 per day)
• Hermit’s House (Secret Lot)

National Parks:

Granite Falls Forest

Climate (Sims 4 Seasons): Granite Falls has distinctive seasons. In the Summer it’s sunny, but not too hot. Winters are very snow and full of blizzards; freezing temperatures. Spring is cool and wet, while Fall can range from cool to warm.

Climate: (No Seasons): Granite Falls keeps Spring-like temperatures.

Campground acts like a neighborhood in Granite Falls. Sims that take their vacation on the Campground can choose between full cabins or tents. There are tables and chairs scattered across the campground.

Neighborhood Amenities: The area surrounding the Campsite gives your Sims plenty of room to walk, hike, or jog. You’re surrounded by Pine Trees (that can be edited) that prevent you from leaving the site. The grounds themselves are quite big.

There are a few fishing spots, plenty of places to cook good, and a large statue in the middle of the Campground, which is the mascot of Granite Falls. Sims with a handiness level 7 can learn how to create a smaller version with a woodworking table.

Beside the mascot is the community garden, which had a community garden filled with carrots and potatoes.

Park Rangers: Park rangers will wander around the area; some of them are wearing costumes.

The campground has 5 total lots: the Campground, Lakeside Retreat, Forested Hideaway, Riverside Retreat, and Green Getaway.

The Campground: Simulated roughing it in the outdoors. Has an outhouse, a campfire, a few chairs, a picnic table, and a grill.

Lakeside Retreat: A large, 2 story cabin with expensive beds, showers, and a large open kitchen. Sims that stay here have access to a horseshoe pit, a big terrace, a campfire, two radios, a small radio, and a large backyard.

Forest Hideaway: The second most expensive rental, the Forest hideaway has two bedrooms, a bathroom, an open kitchen, a cheap television, a terrace, portable cooler, campfire, games table, horseshoe pit, and a barbeque.

Riverside Retreat: A small, one-story hour with one bathroom, one bedroom, a cheap fridge, cheap television, a kitchen without a stove, a barbeque, a from and backyard, a porch, portable cooler, a games table, and a front and backyard with a campfire.

Green Getaway: Another small home, the Green Getaway, has the same features as the Riverside Retreat, except the furniture is updated. There’s also a bathtub inside and horseshoes.

Inside the Granite, Forest lies mystery, intrigue, and bears that are trying to eat you. Included with Outdoor Retreat, the Granite Falls Forest contains the whole forest and the wooden house.

Neighborhood Amenities:  The wooden house contains a fireplace, guitar, chess table, a cooler, a woodworking table, and a bathroom.

The Forest: Outside, you’ll find a few picnic tables, a campfire, a barbeque, a horseshoe pit, and plenty of wildlife to discover. Sims can collect rocks, insects, wild plants, and frogs.

You can roam around the national park to see multiple Sims hiking alongside you. If you speak to them, they can give you some tips and information about the surrounding area.

Hidden Lot Location: Right beside the two fishing spot locations is Hermit’s House, a secret lot you can access by going down a rabbit hole. But, it’s technically not coded as a world inside Granite Falls.

Hermit House

The Hermit House, also known as the Deep Woods house, is a secret lot and sub-world that rabbit-holes you from Granite Falls. Sims can only access this location through a shrub hole. When the Sim enters the area, they need to go through an adventure before reaching the house.

An unsuccessful return from an adventure will give your Sim a tense moodlet. The most reliable route is the step forward, get through the web and ignore the object, or you could sally forth. It’s a bit random, which makes the Hermit House difficult to navigate.

At the Hermits House: While at the Hermits House, you’ll be able to try for the rare Mountain Lionfish. Close to the waterfall is a campfire.

Rare Items: Sims will be able to collect fish, insects, metals, crystals, and wild plants. The will-o-the-wisp insect is only found in this location, so scoop him up while you can!

Hermit NPC: The Hermit NPC can be spoken to. Sims can become good friends with the Hermit and will give Sims the option to learn the “Fungal Infusion Fertilizer Remedy.” There isn’t much in the Hermits house, just a few plants and a woodworking table.

The Sims 4: Get to Work World

Magnolia promenade.

Magnolia Promenade was introduced in the Get to Work expansion pack released on March 31, 2015. Get to Work included three new active careers: Doctor, Detective, and Scientist, and gave Sims the ability to own and manage a business.

The neighborhood is set near downtown Willow Creek and contains the same architectural style as that location. While there are only 4 standard lots within Magnolia Promenade, there are 2 other lots, the Police Station and Willow Creek Hospital, set within the neighborhood, and one secret lot, Sixam, close by.

Overview: Magnolia Promenade targets Sims that are interested in opening their own business, as well as families who want to keep their children entertained with parks. There are numerous rivers and ducks, which enjoy playing in the water.

Neighborhoods: Magnolia Promenade is a single neighborhood.

Lots: This neighborhood has 4 lots: Paddywack’s Emporium, JF&S Clothiers, The Roadstead, and Preeminent Domain, which are all businesses.

Special Lots:

• Civic Center
• Scientist Neighborhood

Climate (Sims 4 Seasons): Magnolia Promenade shares a climate with Willow Creek, which has four seasons ranging from hot, humid weather to cold snowstorms.

Climate: (No Seasons): Magnolia Promenade has mild temperatures all year.

Neighborhood Amenities: Magnolia Promenade has a few parks, places to dig up collectibles, and multiple fishing spots. This neighborhood is mostly for retail startups and to experiment with Get to Work’s new feature: owning a business.

Paddywack’s Emporium: A general retail store that sells collectibles and toys.

JF&S Clothiers:  Retail store that sells clothing.

The Roadstead: The largest normal lot in Magnolia Promenade, it’s a store that sells electronics and other general items.

Preeminent Domain:  An empty lot the player can build a retail business on.

The Sims 4: Get Together World

Windenburg was introduced in the Get Together expansion pack released on December 10, 2015. Get Together included new features, such as DJ booths, social clubs, and more. Windenburg looks similar to the southern and central regions of Germany, as it contains timber-framed houses and castle ruins.

Overview: Windenburg is a neighborhood that mixes cultural significance with vibrant nightlife. Players can visit The Bluffs, which are natural pools near Lake Windenburg, or witness the preserved Von Haunt Estate. Windenburg castle still stands and is considered a local artifact.

Neighborhoods: Windenburg has four neighborhoods and three special lots accessible from the world map. We’ll explain these neighborhoods in-depth in the next section.

• Lykke Centre
• The Crumbling Isle
• Von Haunt Estate (Special Lot)
• Ancient Ruins (Special Lot)
• The Bluffs (Special Lot)

Lots: There are 14 residential lots and 13 community lots the player can choose from. Players can either move into these lots, move families out, or bulldoze these lots. At the base game, there are 8 inhabited lots, 4 uninhabited lots, and 2 empty lots.  All community lots are bought.

Community Lots: Players can visit The Bluffs (Island Bluff), Von Haunt Estate (Chalet Gardens), The Shrieking Llama (Bar), Ancient Ruins, Quad Manor (Library), Old Quarter Inn (Bar), The Narwhal Arms (Nightclub), South Square Coffee (Café), Hare and Hedgehog (Café), Bathe de Rill (Pool), Discothèque Pan Europa (Nightclub), Harbor Quarter Gym (Gym) and Hare Square (Park).

Climate (Sims 4 Seasons): Windenburg has mild Falls and Springs, with cloudy skies and rain. Summer temperatures are hot, but thunderstorms are rare. Winters are very cold, and blizzards are often.

Climate: (No Seasons): Windenburg stays sunny all year

The Sims 4: City Living World

San myshuno.

San Myshuno was introduced in the City Living expansion pack released on November 1, 2016. City Living included new features, such as apartments, festivals, and careers.

San Myshuno takes inspiration from modern cities, like San Francisco, Tokyo, Vancouver, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Sydney, and New York, but features elements of Moroccan, Japanese, Chinese, and Indian culture.

Overview: San Myshuno is a busy city that takes its cues from modern city living. Festivals happen daily in this city that never sleeps, but San Myshuno isn’t without its wildlife. City slickers can also experience a beautiful park where they can toss the ball around of go for a morning jog.

Neighborhoods: San Myshuno has four neighborhoods and one special lot accessible from the world map. We’ll explain these neighborhoods in-depth in the next section.

• Spice Market
• Arts Quarter
• Fashion District
• Myshuno Meadows (Special Lot)

Lots: There are 18 total residential lots, 6 of which are bought community lots.  Players can either move into these lots or move families out, but they can’t bulldoze apartment buildings. However, players can bulldoze individual apartments.

At the base game, there are 8 inhabited apartments, 1 uninhabited apartment, 2 inhabited penthouses, and 1 inhabited residential lot.

Community Lots: Players can visit Waterside Warble (Karaoke Bar), Casbah Gallery (Art Center), Planet Honey Pop! (Karaoke Bar), Stargazer Lounge (Lounge), Skye Fitness (Gym), and Myshuno Meadows (Central Park).

Climate (Sims 4 Seasons): San Myshuno has four full seasons. Spring can be cool or warm, Summer can be hot or rainy, Fall can be cold or cloudy, and Winter typically calls for snowfall.

Climate: (No Seasons): San Myshuno has mild temperatures all year but stays sunny.

The Sims 4: Vampires World

Forgotten hollow.

Forgotten Hollow was introduced in the Vampires expansion pack released on January 24, 2017. Vampires included the Create Vampire option, which allowed players to make the immoral undead creature that has supernatural powers.

Forgotten Hollow uses Victorian and Transylvanian architecture to give its neighborhood a gothic feel. What makes this World unique is that it contains no retail lots and only one neighborhood with 5 lots.

Overview: Forgotten Hollow has a night that lasts longer than in other neighborhoods, which makes it the perfect spot for vampires. Its multiple relics are out for display, but be careful; you may get bitten if you wander around at night!

Neighborhoods: Forgotten Hollow is a single neighborhood.

Lots: This neighborhood has 5 lots: Straud Mansion and Wolfsbane Manor, both of which are inhabited, Garliclauter Place, and Widowshild Townshome, both of which are uninhabited, and the empty lot, Fledermaus Bend.

Climate (Sims 4 Seasons): Forgotten Hollow rarely has sunny weather regardless of season, but still has four seasons. Spring and Fall are on the cool side, Winters are freezing cold, and Summers are hot.

The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs World

Brindleton bay.

Brindleton Bay was introduced in the Cats & Dogs expansion pack released on November 10, 2017. Cats & Dogs included the Create Pets option, which allowed players to make cats and dogs, which Sims could bond with, take to the vet. Sims could also become a vet themselves.

Brindleton Bay is a coastal town that looks similar to most New England seafront towns or Canadian coastal provinces like P.E.I, New Brunswick, or Nova Scotia.

Overview: Brindleton Bay is the best World for walking your pets, as it’s full of cat and dog owners. Residents can take a trip to Deadgrass Isle, where the lighthouse and creative atmosphere is perfect for couples. Sims will come for the food, sea breeze, and fishing, but stay for the cut kitty paws.

The Sims 4: Jungle Adventure World

Selvadorada.

Selvadorada was introduced in the Jungle Adventure expansion pack released on February 27, 2018. Jungle Adventure included a whole new area, Selvadorada, where Sims could explore ruins and the jungle, and collect ancient artifacts.

Selvadorada has landmarks and architecture from the ancient Omiscan civilization, which resemble indigenous Mesoamerican civilizations, although the marketplace takes inspiration from Spanish colonialism.

Overview: Selvadorada is a vast jungle full of poisonous animals, insects, and adventure. A machete is a necessity, or you won’t get through the thick trees to find a hidden temple and ancient artifacts. Sims can rent accommodations but can’t own homes.

Neighborhoods: Selvadorada has two neighborhoods and a special lot only accessible through exploring. We’ll explain these neighborhoods in-depth in the next section.

Lots: There are 4 accommodation lots and 3 community lots the player can choose from. Players cannot bulldoze the lots without a cheat code. At the base game, there are 4 uninhabited lots players can rent.  All community lots are bought.

Del Sol Valley was introduced in the Get Famous expansion pack released on November 16, 2018. Get Famous allows players to pursue an acting career, throw VIP parties, and reach stardom (or fame) in other jobs previously included in the Sims 4.

Del Sol Valley is based on the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles.

Overview: Del Sol Valley explores the lifestyles of the rich and the famous. Sims can take a walk down the Boulevard and spot famous stars, or be spotted by other Sims if they’re famous themselves! On a clear day, Sims can see a picturesque view of The Pinnacles from above.

Neighborhoods: Del Sol Valley has three neighborhoods and a secret lot that can only be accessed within the Actor career. We’ll explain these neighborhoods in-depth in the next section.

Strangerville.

StrangerVille was introduced in the StrangerVille expansion pack released on February 26, 2017. StrangerVille is focused on a linear storyline, where players will explore the new world and unravel the mysterious events taking place in the small, rural town.

StrangerVille looks similar to a Southwestern rural desert town in the United States, particularly Nevada, Arizona, Texas, and Area 51.

Overview: StrangerVille stays true to its name by being exceptionally strange. While the gorgeous red, rocky hills seem inviting, the locals are a bit too friendly. As you crack the code of this bizarre town, you can find help at the StrangerVille Plaza Information Center, which may have a Secret Lab somewhere underground.

Sulani was introduced in the Island Living expansion pack released on June 21, 2019. Island Living encourages players to take part in island life, whether they’re a human or a mermaid. Sims will immerse themselves in a new lifestyle that relies on fish and good conversation.

Sulani seems to draw influence from the Hawaiian Islands.

Overview: Sulani is a beautiful, tropical island that makes your Sims get up close and personal with an active volcano! Admire from afar on the crisp ocean waters, where Sims can snorkel, swim, and talk to dolphins. Take a trip to Ohan’ali Town to see how the locals live!

Neighborhoods: Sulani has three neighborhoods that exist on their own islands. We’ll explain these neighborhoods in-depth in the next section.

Glimmerbrook.

Glimmerbrook was introduced in the Realm of Magic expansion pack released on September 10, 2019. Realm of Magic introduced spellcasters, magic, and ethereal familiars into the Sims 4.

Glimmerbrook doesn’t seem to resemble a specific place but may draw inspiration from Harry Potter due to its secluded woodlands.

Overview: Glimmerbrook is the spot for a magical vacation. In Casters Alley, non-magic and magical folk alike can browse various potions, wands, and brooms they can use throughout the World. A magical portal leads to the secret lot: The Magic Realm.

Neighborhoods: Glimmerbrook is a single neighborhood.

Lots: This neighborhood has four residential lots: Rock Ridge Canyon, Creek Side Corner, Brooks Bridge Borough, and Glimmerbrook Watch. Elixirs and Brews is the only community lot in Glimmerbrook.

Climate (Sims 4 Seasons): Glimmerbrook has four seasons ranging from hot sunny days to cold snowstorms.

Hidden Lot Location: Above the waterfall. Spellcasters can warp to the hidden lot location or use Glimmerstones to travel directly to The Magic Realm.

The Sims 4: Discover University World

Britechester.

Britechester was introduced in the Discover University expansion pack released on December 17, 2019. Discover University allows your Sims to experience college by enrolling in classes, staying in a dorm, or take classes online on the computer.

Britechester looks similar to many UK university cities or towns.

Overview: Britechester offers two universities: the University of Britechester for the artistically inclined and the Foxbury Institute for Sims who want a career in STEM. Britechester has many bizarre happenings located on its campuses, from the Secret Society to lost ghosts.

Neighborhoods: Britechester has three neighborhoods. We’ll explain these neighborhoods in-depth in the next section.

Evergreen Harbor resembles a Northwestern United States port town.

Overview: Evergreen Harbor contains three neighborhoods, each of which has its own eco-footprint. Port Promise is entirely industrialized and filled with smog, Grims Quarry has the greenest footprint and multiple historic sites, and Conifer Station contains a train station and a neutral footprint.

Batuu was introduced in the Journey to Batuu expansion pack released on September 8, 2020. Journey to Batuu is a collaborative expansion between the Star Wars universe and the Sims. It features iconic Star Wars locations, characters, and customization options, like droids and lightsabers, and encourages players to choose between 3 factions.

Batuu is based on the fictional Star Wars planet also named Batuu.

Overview: Batuu contains three neighborhoods the correlate to a faction. The Black Spire Outpost is a designated market and hot spot that’s home to the Scoundrel faction, while the First Order District, the parking spot of the Millennium Falcon, is the stomping ground of the First Order Faction. Finally, the Resistant Encampment, which is covered in a dense forest, hides the Resistance.

Similar to StrangerVille, Batuu is a story-driven World that plops you in the Black Spire Outpost first. You’re free to join all factions at the same time, but you’ll become suspicious of other faction members if you rank up simultaneously.

Neighborhoods: Batuu has three neighborhoods. We’ll explain these neighborhoods in-depth in the next section.

• First Order District – First Order Faction
• Resistance Encampment – Resistance Faction

Lots: There are 3 residential dwellings and 8 community lots. All community lots are bought, and none of the worlds are editable. You can only customize the World with cheats.

Community Lots: Players can visit Docking Bay 7, the Millennium Falcon, Oga’s Cantina, Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities, Savi’s Lightsaber Workshop, Rondo Roasters, Droid Depot, and the T-70 X-Wing

Climate (Sims 4 Seasons): Batuu has different weather depending on where you are. Black Spire Outpost is sunny and hot, the First Order District is also sunny, but cloudy and the Resistant Encampment is rainy but typically hot.

The Sims 4: Snowy Escape World

Mt. komorebi.

Mt. Komorebi was introduced in the Snowy Escape expansion pack released on November 13, 2020. Snowy Escape centers around Winter activities, like skiing and snowboarding, and various Japanese-inspired touches, like hot springs, bamboo forests, and snowy terrains.

Mt. Komorebi is based on Japanese islands, Hokkaido and Honshu.

Overview: Mt. Komorebi is a snowy paradise that allows players to explore the mountain town of Yujimatsu or relax in the onsens or healing hot springs. Sims can reach the top of Mt. Komorebi to see that glorious World from up above.

Neighborhoods: Mt. Komorebi has three neighborhoods and three hidden lots. We’ll explain these neighborhoods in-depth in the next section.

Answer: Determining what the best world is can be difficult because it’s primarily based on individual preferences. However, San Myshuno is the best Sims 4 world, in my opinion. It’s the first city where you can purchase or rent your first apartment, and the cityscape vibe looks incredible on the backdrop of a full moon. I definitely recommend moving your Sims here.

Question: Which Sims 4 games have worlds? 

Answer: There are 18 worlds in The Sims 4. The expansion packs and patches that have worlds are Outdoor Retreat, Get to Work, Get Together, City Living, Vampires, Cats & Dogs, Jungle Adventure, Get Famous, Stranger Ville, Island Living, Realm of Magic, Discover University, Eco Lifestyle, Journey to Batuu and, finally, Snowy Escape.

Answer: As of writing this, there are five hidden worlds in Sims 4: Sylvan Glade, Forgotten Grotto, The Deep Woods (or Hermit’s Hut), Planet SIxan, and Cave of Sulani. All hidden locations have their own criteria for unlocking, and some have more than one. For example, to access the Forbidden Grotto, you can break open a door or sneak in from the mines.

Question: How do you manage worlds in Sims 4?

Answer: Managed Worlds is a game mode that lets players edit and customize families within the world. Although you can’t customize the world apart from the lots, you can customize the townie population by pausing or in live mode. To get to Managed World, press the F5 key on the keyboard. You’ll know you’ve done it right when you see the gallery and notification buttons.

Maxis has added a significant amount of worlds to the base game since its initial release in 2014. With over 18 worlds to choose from, it can get a little overwhelming, especially when you just want to build a house and live your life. However, if you’re a completionist, having all the information available for you should feel refreshing. Plus, you save time this way.

A word of advice: You don’t need the expansion packs to enjoy the Sims 4, but you receive so many features that it’s difficult not to pass up all those worlds. With the expansion packs and the updates, you could live out your completionist dreams and finish your notebook.

Though there are plenty of layers to the gameplay in The Sims 4 , the traits you assign to your Sim when you first create them are strong enough to influence everything they do. Adult Sims have three traits each, and with a sprawling spread to choose from, every Sim experiences life differently.

Whether it’s the innate traits you give your Sim on creation, reward traits from completing aspiration or working hard in careers, or childhood traits that stick with smaller Sims for life, traits can shape your entire experience. Here’s a detailed look at every trait in The Sims 4.

Updated on August 15, 2024: Now that a few packs have come out since we first published our Sims 4 traits guide, we're back to add all the extra traits we've gotten in-game since to help you make your Sims as individualistic as they can be! We also put our tables into expandable windows to save your from having to scroll forever to find the Sims 4 trait you're looking for.

Traits Overview

In The Sims 4, emotions are more varied than ever before, with Moodlets introduced in this series entry. And while normal gameplay can impact moodlets, your Sims are more prone to certain emotions depending on their traits. Though townie Sims appear with their traits already set, you can choose up to three traits for Sims you make yourself in Create-a-Sim . Any Sims you download from the gallery will also have a set of traits.

Adult Sims have three trait slots by default, but they may earn additional traits based on life experiences, completed aspirations, and more. More on that below!

Overall, traits in The Sims 4 combine to form your Sim's unique personality . For example, Sims with perfectionistic traits will behave much differently than sloppy Sims, while hardworking Sims are more driven in their goals than lazy ones. Because of this, you're truly able to make hundreds of combinations from the list of all traits in The Sims 4.

The list of available traits in The Sims 4 grows as you get new expansion packs . These often have additional traits to give your Sims, heavily influenced by the content of the pack. For example, you'll find plenty of equestrian-themed traits in the Horse Ranch pack, while Get Together offers more interpersonally social traits for your Sim.

Some packs drastically change how heavily traits in The Sims 4 weigh into things, such as the Lovestruck pack introducing the Turn-Ons and Turn-Offs system that makes certain traits more or less attractive to Sims with a given preference. More on that system here , as it's currently exclusive to Lovestruck.

Unless you use the Retraiting Potion ( or a couple of cheats ), you cannot change your Sims' three base traits on the UI or via the "Modify Sim in CAS" option. You can, however, work toward swapping them through behavioral changes. For example, if a Mean Sim continues to do nice things, you may have a chance to swap the Mean trait for the Good one.

Traits Come In Four Categories

Since players may struggle to keep traits in line without them, traits fall into one of four categories when you're assigning them in Create-a-Sim . These categories are:

• Emotional Traits , which deal with your Sim, their feelings, and how likely they are to feel different things.
• Hobby Traits that can help your Sims advance in their goals and hobbies more quickly.
• Lifestyle Traits , which inform how your Sim approaches the world around them.
• Social Traits that flesh out your Sims' interactions with other Sims and animals.

By choosing traits from across several categories, you may help make your Sim feel more varied. Additionally, if you're not sure what you'd like your Sim to be like, you can always use the randomize option to select three traits at random .

What Are Reward Traits?

There are also traits available in The Sims 4 that are inherited traits as your Sim moves through their life. Whether this is from completing one of their aspirations entirely, reaching the top of their chosen career path, developing relationships with other Sims around their world, or more, there are plenty of ways to add extra traits in The Sims 4.

Though these traits are not available to select in Create-a-Sim, Sims can still earn these traits as a result of your gameplay decisions and happenings. They're typically longer-term goals during regular gameplay unless you're using a few cheats - we won't tell you what to do, just how to do it .

Cancer doctors and family with dog among Brazil plane crash dead

As investigations continue into the plane crash in Brazil that killed 62 people, more details have emerged about the victims.

Those who died included cancer doctors, a three-year-old child, a lawyer specialising in lawsuits against airlines and a Venezuelan family and their dog, local media have reported.

All bodies have now been recovered from the site of Friday's plane crash in the state of São Paulo.

The twin-engine turboprop was flying from Cascavel in the southern state of Paraná to Guarulhos airport in São Paulo city when it came down on Friday in the town of Vinhedo.

Footage circulating on social media showed a plane descending vertically, spiralling as it fell.

The aircraft crashed in a residential area, but no-one on the ground was injured. Officials said only one home in a local condominium complex was damaged.

Two doctors from the Uopeccan Cancer Hospital in Cascavel, Mariana Belim and Ariane Risso, were among the passengers who died.

They were among eight doctors on their way to attend a medical conference.

Three-year-old Liz Ibba dos Santos, the youngest victim of the disaster, was travelling with her father, Rafael Fernando dos Santos. Her mother, a journalist, was not on the flight.

Other victims included a family returning to their native Venezuela after their dreams of a new life in Brazil were frustrated.

Josgleidys Gonzalez was travelling with her mother, Maria Gladys Parra Holguin, and her young son, Joslan Perez.

According to a family friend writing on social media, the three had left economic hardship in Venezuela and moved to Cascavel, but had been unable to sort out Joslan's documentation, as he was born in Venezuela but grew up in Brazil.

As a result, they were heading back to their homeland to deal with the documentation, and hoped to start a new life in neighbouring Colombia.

Their plan was to change planes in São Paulo and fly to northern Brazil before completing the journey by bus.

A friend of the family, Thaiza Evangelista, told AFP news agency that the family had friends in Colombia that would help them get set up.

Ms Evangelista received a message just as they were about to board the plane - the last she received from Josgleidys.

"I was desperate... the list (of victims) wasn't coming out," she told AFP.

The airline later confirmed Josgleidys, her mother and young son were among the dead.

Their dog, Luna, boarded the plane with them, because Joslan's mother could not stand to see him separated from their pet, said the family friend. The family had the dog vaccinated as required by the airline.

The death toll also included a lawyer, Laiana Vasatta, who worked as a lay judge at the Court of Justice of Paraná and also represented clients in lawsuits against airlines. She posted videos on social media offering consumer guidance.

The state of São Paulo said it concluded its operation to remove the victims' bodies from the crash site on Saturday evening.

It added that the bodies - 34 males and 28 females - were being moved to a police morgue in the city of São Paulo, where they will be identified and released to the families.

The authorities are still trying to determine what caused the plane's dramatic plunge.

Analysis of the plane's flight recorders has already begun and the Brazilian Air Force said a preliminary report would be issued in 30 days.

The plane crash is Brazil's worst since 2007, when a TAM Express plane crashed and burst into flames at São Paulo's Congonhas airport , killing 199 people.
