Routes and Timetable for London’s Hop-On Hop-Off Sightseeing Bus Tour

There are 4 different routes which will take you to see London’s top landmarks. You can hop-on and hop-off of any of the routes as many times as  you like, and change routes whenever you want. This just makes sightseeing in London very easy, and it saves you having to use public transport in London to get from one place to another.

It’s also good to know that you can start your journey on the sightseeing bus tour at any bus stop, on any route, so you can start your journey at the bus stop that suits you best.

⇒ Here you will find a map with the routes and timetables: London Sightseeing Bus Tour Map .

1. Classic Red Tour

The first bus of this route departs at 8.10 am from the stop located just in front of Green Park underground station, on Piccadilly Street and there are buses approximately every 5 minutes. This route is the Classic Tour, a route that passes through 15 of the most important tourist places in London, including Westminster Abbey, London Eye, Big Ben, Covent Garden, the Tower of London and St. Paul’s Cathedral among others. The red route has a live commentary in English, and there are also recorded commentaries in several languages.

The red route takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes, and has several stops in common with the blue route: stops from 2 to 5, from 7 to 11 and stop 15. It also coincides with the green route at stop 9.

2. Big Blue Tour

The first bus of the blue route departs at 8.36 am from stop number 2, which is located at Hyde Park Corner, and there are buses approximately every 5 or 10 minutes. The nearest underground stop is Green Park. The blue route is a slightly longer route, and coincides in almost all the stops with the red route, but also goes round Hyde Park, passing through the South Kensington area, where the natural history museum, the science museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum are located. It also goes past Harrods and towards Regent’s Park stopping at Baker Street, where the Sherlock Holmes museum and Madame Tussauds wax museum are located. The blue route has recorded commentaries.

The blue route takes almost 3 hours and coincides with the red route at stops 2 to 5, from 7 to 11 and stop 15. It also connects with the green route at stop 9 .

3. Green Link

The green link is very short and connects the famous Trafalgar Square with King’s Cross and St Pancras underground and train stations, going past the British museum. If you are going to spend a day in London and arrive at the King’s Cross – St Pancras station, we recommend that you use the tourist bus, since you can start the route here, change at Trafalgar Square to another route and see London easily before returning to King’s Cross with the green link again if you need to.

The first bus on the green route leaves from Covent Garden at 8.20 am, where it also links to the blue and red routes.

4. Night tour: Hotel Return Service

The purple route is the hotel return service. It covers the areas from Marble Arch to Gloucester Road, so it’s ideal if your hotel is anywhere in between – such as Paddington, Bayswater, Notting Hill or Kensington. It runs up to 2 hours later than the other routes mentioned above.

Bus stops and timetables

Here you can find a list of the bus stops from the RED and BLUE routes, and the time of departure of the first bus at each one of them. After that, buses run every 5 – 10 minutes. Guide: Red Route ( RR ), Blue Route ( BR ) and Green Link ( GL ).

FREE River Cruise when you buy Hop-On, Hop-Off Sightseeing Bus Tour tickets

A Thames River Cruise is honestly one of the best things you can  do when visiting London, this is something that I always recommend friends and family do when they come to visit us. If it’s your first time in London I can guarantee that a cruise on the Thames will leave you speechless, as you can see many famous landmarks from the river. And the best thing is: You get a free river cruise with the London hop-on, hop-off sightseeing bus tour tickets. Boom!

The river cruise included is a one way ticket if you’re buying a one day sightseeing bus tour ticket, or a return ticket if you’re buying a 2 or 3 day bus tour ticket. The cruise runs from Westminster Pier to Tower of London. If you have a one day bus tour ticket you need to do the river cruise on that same day, but don’t worry as there is plenty of time do both, you would even have time to go on the London Eye on the same day.

Free Guided Walking Tour

You will also be able to make the most of your sightseeing bus tour tickets by joining the free walking tour that’s included in your ticket. The tour starts at the Big Bus Tours Bus Stop in Trafalgar Square at 10.20 am, and you will be able to enjoy the Changing of the Guard at 11.00 am at Buckingham Palace and learn all about St James’ Palace.

All-electric tram-buses due to operate this summer

Trambus

Coming to a street near you - if you are between Orpington and Crystal Palace

  • Published 9 July 2024

All-electric tram-buses are due to enter service on the streets of the capital in the near future, the mayor of London has said.

The vehicles, called ieTrams will operate on route 358 in south-east London, linking Orpington with Crystal Palace.

Sadiq Khan confirmed the buses, originally due to launch in early 2023, would be in use later this summer.

The 20 ieTrams were built by Spanish company Irizar e-mobility.

The electric buses will use pantograph technology for a quick-boost charge at either end of the route, allowing the buses to stay out for the full day.

A pantograph is an arm-like structure, that attaches itself to the roof of the bus, to deliver a quick, high-power charge.

Each top-up, known as "opportunity charging", takes about 10 minutes.

The buses would have conventionally been charged overnight.

The buses have large windows and the covered wheels are believed to be safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

Sliding doors and a low floor are designed to improve access and reduce "dwell time" at bus stops.

England will get a huge open-top bus parade in London's Trafalgar Square if they win Euro 2024 final – here’s what we know so far

If the Three Lions beat Spain on Sunday they’ll get one hell of a homecoming in the capital

India Lawrence

This Sunday (July 14), the England men’s team will have a second crack at winning the Euros. Having beaten the Netherlands in the semi-final , the Three Lions will  take on Spain in the final of Euro 2024 , and it’s going to be a night full of tense nail biting, euphoric cheering and probably tears (we hope from Spain).

We don’t want to jinx it, but what happens if England actually win? Prime Minister Keir Starmer has already hinted at a potential bank holiday to celebrate England if we become champions, and what about a homecoming parade? Here’s what we know so far.

Will England have a parade if they win the Euro 2024 final against Spain?

If England win on Sunday the team will have an open-top bus parade, ending at Buckingham Palace where they will be honoured by the King.

Has a potential date and route been announced?

It’s thought the parade will be on Tuesday July 16. A bus would take the squad from Guildhall in the City of London, to the palace via Trafalgar Square.

What other celebrations are being planned?

There are expected to be two days of celebrations, starting on Monday. The team is already lined up to meet the new PM at Downing Street, and Keir Starmer will attend the final in Berlin on Sunday. Then, a royal reception, likely to be headed by president of the Football Association Prince William, has also been pencilled in for Monday.

Will we get a bank holiday if England win?

We’re not sure yet. You can read more about the potential bank holiday on Time Out  here .

What time is the Euro final on Sunday?

England v Spain kicks off at 8pm BST.

What are England’s odds for winning?

At the moment, England’s odds for beating Spain are 11/10. Spain’s odds for winning are 7/10.

What has King Charles said about the game?

The King has sent a message to Gareth Southgate congratulating the Three Lions for making it to the final. He sent the players and their families the ‘very best wishes’ and ‘warmest congratulations’.

Euro 2024: Huge open-top bus parade lined up if England beat Spain in Sunday's final

England will head for Buckingham Palace on a victory parade if they win the Euros on Sunday, the Standard can exclusively reveal.

Preparations are at an advanced stage for Gareth Southgate’s squad to be honoured by the King and the royal family if they defeat Spain and claim the trophy for the first time.

A massive open-top bus parade would take the team from Guildhall, in the City of London, to the palace via Trafalgar Square on Tuesday, it is understood.

Up to a million fans could line the streets if England land their first trophy since 1966.

Two days of celebrations would begin on Monday with the team lined up to meet Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer — who is expected to attend the final in Berlin on Sunday — at Downing Street.

A royal reception, likely to be headed by Prince William , president of the Football Association, has also been pencilled in for Monday. Tuesday would be a massive public celebration, starting with a reception at Guildhall — the historic home of the City of London Corporation and Lord Mayor of London — before the parade via Trafalgar Square and The Mall to the palace.

There would not be a parade if Spain — the favourites — defeat England.

A victory royal event would have echoes of the England rugby team winning the World Cup in 2003, when they went to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen.

Netherlands v England: Semi-Final - UEFA EURO 2024

In 1966, the Queen presented the World Cup trophy to England captain Bobby Moore at Wembley stadium.

Ollie Watkins’s late winner against the Netherlands on Wednesday night has sparked a last-minute stampede of fans trying to get to Berlin in time for Sunday night’s final.

Spain beat France on Tuesday, 24 hours ahead of England, giving their fans extra time to sort out flights, trains, tickets and accommodation.

A search this morning on one popular booking website revealed three-quarters of its accommodation in the German capital on Sunday night had already been snapped up. Remaining options including shared rooms in mixed dormitories were going for more than £100.

There are still flights available but prices are sky-high with a seat on a plane from London Gatwick to Berlin on Easyjet today or on the day of the game fetching £917.99 with prices back down to a more normal £104 by Monday.

The FA has also warned fans that sale windows for its official tickets will only be open for “a few hours” and advised those travelling tomorrow when the sale takes place to “ask a member of your travelling group, or a family member, to log in and purchase on your behalf”.

That will drive fans to resale sites with one offering its cheapest ticket at £1,558 on Thursday while also selling VIP packages for an eye-watering £66,000.

Perhaps mindful of the stress faced by fans trying to reach the final, the King in his official message to the team led by Southgate asked them to to watch out for the nation’s blood pressure in the final clash with Spain.

He said: “My wife and I join all our family in wishing you the warmest congratulations on reaching the final of the UEFA European Championship — and in sending our very best wishes for Sunday’s match. If I may encourage you to secure victory before the need for any last minute wonder-goals or another penalties drama, I am sure the stresses on the nation’s collective heart rate and blood pressure would be greatly alleviated! Good luck, England.”

England made it to the final after Aston Villa star Watkins scored the latest winning goal in a European Championship or World Cup semi-final, excluding extra-time.

The Three Lions had fallen behind after seven minutes to a Xavi Simons strike but a controversial Harry Kane penalty, awarded by VAR, brought the scores level 10 minutes later, before Watkins’ late, late intervention.

The Prince of Wales, who is a Villa fan and is likely to travel to Berlin for the final, also congratulated England and singled out Watkins for praise in a message on social media.

He said: “What a beauty, Ollie! Congratulations England! #EURO2024 Finalists.”

England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo said: “I feel like the only way is up and it’s time to put ourselves into history.”

Futuristic 'tram buses' set to launch in London later this summer

Futuristic all-electric 'tram-buses' will be seen on London 's streets for the first time within weeks, Sadiq Khan has confirmed.

The new vehicles called ieTrams have been built by Spanish company Irizar and will operate on route 358 between Orpington and Crystal Palace in South East London.

The 20 accessible tram buses, which are track free, are finally due to hit the roads later this summer having been delayed from an initial launch date of early 2023.

Their covered wheels are designed to make road conditions safer for pedestrians and cyclists to avoid them being caught and dragged underneath them.

The ieTrams will be powered by a pantograph at each end of the route which will allow them to recharge in less than ten minutes and have a smaller battery.

The seats on board have USB charging ports for passengers and the drivers will use 360-degree cameras instead of wing mirrors.

News of their long-awaited launch was revealed in a written question to the Mayor by Thomas Turrell, the Conservative assembly member for Bexley and Bromley.

In response, Mr Khan's office wrote last Friday: 'The all-electric Route 358 ieTram buses are expected to start operating in summer 2024.

'They will be Transport for London's ( TfL ) first end to end 'Opportunity Charging' trial, and it is important to get the hardware installed properly before the buses are introduced.

'The electric buses will use pantograph technology for a quick boost charge at either end of the route, allowing the buses to stay out for the full day.

'The new buses, which resemble a tram, will have enhanced customer features and the latest bus safety specifications.'

MailOnline understands that the 15-mile route 358 between Crystal Palace and Orpington is one of London's longest, and a standard garage charge alone would therefore not sustain a zero-emission bus for the entire day.

Due to the length of the route, a pantograph at each end of the route, rather than back at the garage, will mean buses receive a quick boost on the spot.

The idea is that with minimal turnaround time, fewer buses can provide the same level of service.

In an original announcement about ieTrams in October 2022, TfL said: 'The 15-mile route 358 between Crystal Palace and Orpington is one of London's longest.

'A standard garage charge [at the start of each morning] alone would not sustain a zero-emission bus the entire day.

'Due to the length of the route, a pantograph at each end of the route, rather than back at the garage, will mean buses receive a quick boost on the spot.

'With minimal turnaround time, fewer buses can again provide the same level of service.'

TfL's bus fleet has more than 1,400 buses categorised as 'zero emission' and all its other buses are designated 'low emission' and meet or exceed Euro VI emission standards.
