Cruise Control Kits & Vehicle Compatibility

Often seen as a no-brainer for safety it’s no wonder cruise control and assisted driving controls are becoming more common in newer, high-end vehicles. With a cruise control system in the car or van the driver is able to rest their feet with the vehicle taking over the speed management allowing you to focus on the driving, and that’s not the only benefit!

With motor traffic increasing year-on-year (recorded 325.5 billion vehicle miles in 2017) it’s no wonder people are starting to look for ways to make their journeys easier. With long journeys motorways can be tiresome, but with frequent traffic jams, roadworks and variable speed limits your legs may be tired before you even get to work. In 2017 record motorway traffic levels had been recorded with 68.2 billion vehicle miles and alleviating some of that work to the cruise control system is a godsend for many.

However, what can be done if you don’t have a cruise control system pre-installed in your car? Aftermarket cruise control systems can be a great addition to your car giving you the ability to enjoy assisted driving on any car. Using the cruise control systems we have available, they can be operated using a dashboard mounted control, steering wheel mounted control, or the more traditional steering column stalk control, and best of all they are compatible with nearly all vehicles on the market that have electrically operated accelerators (drive by wire). The AP-900C is actually one of the easiest to install as it only requires connections to the CAN Bus and ignition systems making it one of the most popular DIY cruise control systems available.

GCT Moscow to St. Petersburg have you done it?

This is my first time with GCT and I was very disappointed when they said they were substituting a WWII memorial and Victory Park tour for a tour of the Kremlin and Armory Museum. We can take the Kremlin Armory tour for $60.00. The War Memorial and Victory Park tour was originally $45.00. They say it is because people didn't like the Kremlin and Armory Museum tour. It looks like a bait and switch to me. I can't imagine people not wanting to visit the Kremlin and Armory. If any of you have done this cruise I would be curious what you thought about these tours.

We took the GCT Russian cruise two years ago. I would not go to Moscow without going inside the Kremlin and the Armory. I don't understand droping that tour from the trip.

We're on the GCT Moscow/St. Petersburg September 6th cruise and have gotten the notification about the tour changes. We were going to do both anyway, so it's just a higher cost.

Anyone else going on this date?

Believe me, no matter what do take the Kremlin tour. If you have no other possibility, I can recommend an excellent local guide for you. I am a Cruise/Tour Director for AVALON and we will have the Kremlin Armory included and this would never be replaced for something else, UNLESS there is an official event going on in the Kremlin on the date you are there. This is the only possibility. The Kremlin regularly closes the doors without good reason (visit of a foreign dignitary or so).

I am becoming less and less enamored with GCT as time goes on. I sent my Russian visa application to the agency GCT recommended the middle of January, after I called them and asked if I could send it early because I have a 31 day cruise on Orient Lines beginning 3/11. They said yes. Weekly calls and e-mails with promises to get it to me have not been much help. Finally, this week they said it would not be approved until the middle of March because GCT Russia is holding them up, I told them I had sent it to them early because I had an earlier cruise. So, for USD$100 they say I can get it back by March 1. When I e-mailed GCT they said that is why they sent out the Visa application so early. It looks to me like it doesn’t matter when they sent it out but GCT Russia is not going to send the applications in until the middle of March. I was also told by the agency that once the application is approved it would take two weeks for the Embassy in DC to put the Visa in the passport. If I miss my 31 day cruise I will not be happy and it is off to an attorney as I have done everything I can possibly do.

You may want to read the thread on the Frommers site about Grand Circle and their loss of Better Business Bureau Certification.

We have had both good and bad expeiences with GCT. Better to be informed.

Retrofit adaptive cruise control

Hi I was surprised to find my GT line 308 does not adaptive cruise control. I had a Golf Match that had it and I used it all the time. I’m thinking from what I’ve been reading that it’s not possible and is something that comes as an upgrade with the drive assist pack when car built. But not being a mechanic I don’t understand how it is possible to retrofit standard cruise control but not possible to upgrade standard cruise control to adaptive cruise control. ? Thanks  

Looking at my brochure that item comes in at Allure Premium -Digital i cockpit called Drive Assist Pack-Adoptive cruise control. So is in the higher models of GT and GT Premium. No mention of a GT Line in this December 2020 brochure.  

It’s the 2017 308 I have. I did have Allure 3008 with basic cruise control. just wondered how you can retrofit cruise control but not modify existing cruise control. This is why I am not a mechanic.  

Normal cruise nowadays just needs the switches installed, everything else is software and configuration. Adaptive cruise needs additional hardware (the front radar, some cars gave different brake pipes etc).  

I've investigated the same thing and it seems the biggest hurdle would be the correct calibration of the autocruise ARTIV radar module. Because they are a directional radar with a beam pattern, they need to be adjusted after fitment to ensure they can properly see the road ahead at the correct angle etc. It's the same idea as with headlight alignment. Unfortunately this calibration is not as simple or accessible as it is with headlights, and the consequences of improper calibration could be much more severe. I suspect the only place you'll find the calibration tool is in the factory which is why is not something a dealership would be able to offer or even maintain most likely. I do wonder what would happen if you had this system and had a small accident with damage to the front bumper that required removal/replacement. Not sure how any repairer would go about making sure the ACC was still correctly calibrated..... Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk  

Nah, there is a service calibration, like for the camera, that can be done by the dealer. Same thing if a vehicle had a frontal collision that damaged the bumper, bracket, radar module etc.  

Huh okay, so actually then you'd just need to get the parts added, code it in then find a friendly dealer to calibrate it. No reason it wouldn't be possible in that case. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

Hello. I have a peugeot 308 2017 allure with adaptive cruise control. It works very well but I can't find the sensor. Is not in the bumper as the other cars.
