The easiest way to get from the Indianapolis International Airport to the Bloomington campus is to take the airport shuttle.

Getting to Bloomington

I-69 complete  -- interstate 69 from evansville to indianapolis is open. there are some areas with minor construction as they finish,  click here  for maps, updates, and more information..

Bloomington is located in the heart of the Midwest, in one of the region's most picturesque areas. Conveniently located within a day's drive of over half of the U.S. population, Bloomington is a great place to visit and an easy place to get to. Home to Indiana University and made famous by the 1979 movie "Breaking Away," Bloomington is bicycle and pedestrian friendly, through several other modes of transportation are also available.

Highway Access

Bloomington can be accessed from two major highways; Interstate 69 which runs north-south from Indianapolis in the north to Interstate 64 in the south and Indiana State Road 46, which runs east-west from Columbus in the east to Terre Haute in the west. Several Interstates are easily accessed from these two highways, making Bloomington a great driving destination.

Air Service

Licensed pilots with private aircraft can fly directly into the  Monroe County Airport , located west of Bloomington. For the rest of us, primary air service to Bloomington is provided by the award-winning Indianapolis International Airport, located just 50 miles to the north. The Indianapolis International Airport is served by all the major airlines.

Passengers traveling on to Bloomington can easily find rental car or shuttle services to and from the Indianapolis International Airport.

Getting Around Bloomington

Bus Service

Bloomington Transit    (812) 336-7433   Uptown, downtown, cross town and around town, the best way to get there is Bloomington Transit. Several routes run daily, in town and on campus. Main passenger transfer terminal is located at the corner of Third and Walnut Streets.  

Rural Transit   (812) 876-1079   A service of the Area 10 Agency on Aging, Rural Transit offers bus service to everyone from Monroe, Owen, Lawrence and Putnam counties. You can ride no matter your age or physical abilities. Routes offer s round-trip service between specific points in the counties Monday through Friday. 

Campus Bus Service   (812) 855-8384   welcomes all individuals associated with the IU Bloomington campus, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors. There is no need for IDs, passes, or fares to enjoy our service.

All major ride-share and scooter rental companies are available in the Bloomington area.

Easy Peasy - and very nice and professional drivers.

The Bloomington/Indy airport shuttle is sooo convenient. Easy to find at the airport and cancel/late wasn't a problem. The driver was very safe, no texting, courteous. My daughter is getting married in July and I have recommended all guests flying into Indy to book on the shuttle. Thank you

Great, well priced service between Bloomington and the Indy airport. Our driver was very courteous, friendly and safe behind the wheel. We were actually using a credit from a previous booking we had to reschedule. They made it super easy to use the credit!!

Can't ask for more! I am not sure of the name of the driver; he is awesome! It was a smooth ride from IMU Bloomington to Indy. I sat in the front and I noticed the driver's professionalism! His announcements were as if it was from a TV news channel reporter. He would help every single customer.

This is a great service! My family needed to use the shuttle for my nephew traveling to Bloomington. Not only did the driver ensure that my nephew was in the right place, the driver was extremely kind and accommodating. We are thankful for the service.

Our driver was amazing. We were scheduled the last shuttle of the night and our flight was delayed. We were afraid we would miss it. He waited for 10mins extra which gave us time. Then, because we were the only people on the shuttle he drove us all the way to our house! He was friendly and kind. We couldn't have had a better experience. My only request is the company would provide an after-hours number for contact if/when your flight is delayed.

Kimberly Chandler, who is the manager, has been extremely rude over the phone to customer questions and complaints. She's a shame for Bloomington Shuttle and should leave the business or get fired.

Indiana University preserves its green spaces, and as a result parking is limited on campus. IU students manage very well without cars—most walk, bike, or ride the bus to campus. You'll find many safe and easy ways to get around.

IU Ride offers free rides from 8 p.m. to 1:45 a.m., seven days a week, when classes are in session.

IU Ride Late Nite by Lyft is available from midnight to 3 a.m. daily. It provides a credit of $6.50 per Lyft ride within the designated service area. Limit 10 rides per month, tips not included. Discount code must be added to your Lyft account.

Take the bus

The IU Campus Bus Service provides routes that serve all parts of campus. Rides are free for IU students. The campus fleet is fully accessible—all buses are equipped with a kneeling feature and a wheelchair ramp. You can track the buses in real time .

Parking on and near campus

If you must drive to campus often, you’ll want to get a parking permit. There is no free parking on or near campus, and at peak times of the day and year, be prepared to hunt for the closest spaces.

Don’t gamble—you will be ticketed for parking in an IU lot without a parking permit. The City of Bloomington will also ticket you for not paying the meters on city streets near campus, unless you have a city parking permit.

Airport shuttle faqs, how do i pay for a trip to the airport on the shuttle.

You should purchase your shuttle ride using our online reservation system. The drivers do not sell tickets and cannot make change.  Please note, when booking a ticket, it is one reservation per person. 

Are tickets refundable or transferable?

A reservation is per person.  Reservations cannot be split.  Shuttle tickets are nonrefundable nor transferable to another person.  A ride credit for future transportation needs may be issued to your account for a single ticket. Credited tickets are only good for one year. For those needing a refund please call our dispatch center at 800-589-6004.

What happens if I miss my shuttle?

If you miss your shuttle, your ticket is good for the next available shuttle based upon capacity.

Suspension of Service During Hazardous Conditions

Safety is a core principle of Bloomington Shuttle Service Inc., DBA GO Express Travel.  If management deems conditions are unsafe to operate, GO Express Travel reserves the right to suspend operation of service.

Hazardous conditions increase the risk of an accident, and these conditions can be natural or manmade.  Examples include but are not limited to: significant accumulation of snow, ice, freezing rain, civil unrest, or protests.  As a licensed operator we are subject to and will follow local, state and national government directives.

When hazardous conditions develop, we will monitor conditions and communicate (in advance when possible) with anyone impacted in as timely a manner as possible. 

How long are credited tickets good for?

Credited tickets are only good for one year. 

Age of Passengers

All minors 17 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult (18 years of age or over) when traveling with GO Express Travel.  GO Express Travel reserves the right, but is not obligated, to verify the age of any passenger .

How much luggage may I bring on the shuttle?

GO Express Travel permits each passenger to bring one suitcase and one carry-on item. The carry-on must fit either under the seat, on your lap, or in an overhead compartment. Passengers with more than one piece of luggage will need to purchase an additional ticket. Non-compliance may result in denial of service.

Is there a charge for small children?

Children ages 3 and under may ride the Airport shuttle for free. For booking, please call 800-589-6004 .

Can I travel with my pet on the shuttle?

Do i need a reservation to ride.

Reservations are given loading preference. We recommend you make a reservation using our website, or by calling us at 800-589-6004. Our reserved riders are always seated first. Please note, reservations booked over the phone will incur a separate administrative fee.

Can I pre-pay a ticket for someone?

You may purchase online and input the “passenger name” on the payment page.

When should I be at the shuttle stop to catch the bus?

We recommend you are waiting at your shuttle stop no less than 10 (minutes) before the scheduled departure time, make sure you have purchased a ride card.

Can I park my vehicle where I get on the shuttle?

GO Express Travel, does not recommend parking without permission at any location(this may lead to your vehicle being towed at your expense). Again, we have no authority to say that you should ever leave a vehicle unattended in a location without permission. For customers traveling on Lafayette Express, parking is available at the Courtyard Marriott with the purchase of a parking permit. Parking permits can be purchased when making a reservation.

Can the shuttle buses be rented for use by private groups?

Yes, GO Express Travel, is insured and licensed to provide both large and small group transportation to anyplace in the U.S., Canada or Mexico. Just call our reservation center at 800-589-6004 and tell us where you would like to go!

Where do I find the shuttle at the airport?

The shuttle picks up at the Ground Transportation Center located directly across from baggage claim area on the lower level of the main terminal in Zone 1.
