Here are some places where you can go hot-air ballooning in India: 6 places to go for a hot-air balloon ride in India Chandor, South Goa Explore the sunshine state a little differently when you visit next. At 6.30am every morning (weather permitting), Goa Tourism Development Corporation Limited takes you to a height of 2,000ft, over beaches and emerald fields. The hour-long flight is at the mercy of the winds but normally covers a 400km radius. They also arrange for transfers back to the launch site. What should you expect?

Balloon safaris usually entail a very early start, but it's well worth it. You'll be collected from your hotel and taken to the launch site.  After a cup of tea and a safety briefing while you watch the balloon being inflated, you'll be on your way.

The hot air balloon safari usually lasts for around an hour and then your pilot will set the basket down in a suitable safe location, you'll no doubt be greeted by the smiles and curiosity of the local villagers.

Your transfer vehicle will arrive to meet you and take you back to your hotel. We're pretty sure you'll be reliving this experience for quite some time to come.

We book with a reputable company called Sky Waltz. The first and largest fully licensed and approved hot air balloon operation in India, authorised by India's Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Sky Waltz has been operating since 2008 with highly experienced and internationally licensed pilots from Europe, USA, Australia, Canada, India and the UK. They adhere to globally recognised safety standards and international operating procedures, you're in safe hands.

Where to go

Sky Waltz operates in four bases: Jaipur, Pushkar, Ranthambore in Rajasthan and Lonvala in Maharashtra. They also offer balloon safaris on a request basis during Pushkar Cattle Fair and Nagaur Cattle Festival.

Flights are seasonal, operating between September and June in Rajasthan, and between October and May in Maharashtra. Flights take place in the early morning, around 6am, and at certain times of year in the late afternoon, as this is when the winds are most stable.

How to do it

Balloon flights are subject to availability and need to be booked in advance. Sky Waltz collect you from your hotel and take you back there afterwards. You arrive about half an hour before take off and the flight lasts for around one hour. You should allow 3-4 hours for the whole experience. The balloon ride is weather-dependent and if it cannot take place you can rebook for another day or receive a full refund.

1. What time of the day are the rides arranged? The rides are usually arranged two hours before the sun rises and two hours before it sets. These times are ideal for the activity as winds are at their weakest, allowing for smooth rides. The stillness of the winds depends on the season the ride is being taken in, but the usual time for conducting the activity is 5.30 am and 4 pm. Mornings carry a lesser chance of the flight being cancelled as compared to afternoons. 2. What is the duration of a ride? How high does the balloon fly? You will fly roughly for an hour, but the total time inclusive of the flight, gearing you up, inflating the balloon and launching it is around 3 hours. Different altitudes are achieved by the balloon depending on the topography and weather of the place. Here the maximum elevation that your flight will reach is approximately 1200 feet from the ground. 3. What happens, in case, the weather is unsuitable for a ride? This is an entirely weather-dependent activity and thankfully, the weather in India mostly remains suitable for it. If take-off is not possible due to unsuitable weather conditions, then the participants will be told about it beforehand, considering their safety. 4. How many people can be accommodated in the balloon? Generally, anywhere from 4 to 8 fliers are flown in a single ride. 5. Is there any an age or weight restriction for this activity? Are pregnant women allowed on-board a balloon flight? To board a flight, passengers have to be older than 5 years and have to stand at least 1.5 meters in height. No age limit will bar you from enjoying this amazing journey; however, you should be able to stand for as long as you are in the flight. The only hitch is that pregnant women are not allowed to fly, considering the safety of them and their child. 6. Where do we fly from? What is the take off location? In Jaipur, the flights take off from the area near the spectacular Amber Fort; however, the location can sometimes be changed depending upon the direction of the wind. The take off location is solely decided by the pilot considering the safety of the on-board passengers.

The views are so great from up top, the feeling of being so up in the clouds, you can literally see the most of the city's part you are in! It is amazing! I went with my friend and had the best experience!

Jaipur is full of surprises. We were here for some other event in the city, but my friends and I had the opportunity to go hot air ballooning. We decided to do this on a whim because we had nothing else to do for one whole day before we left. This is an amazing way to spend your time in the city. Next time I'm here I'm going to explore more adventure activities in the city.

If you want to get away for just a while, hot air ballooning is ideal. Went here with my friend. It was recommended by a friend who really likes all this stuff. We were really excited and oh my god, the sight is heavenly from so up above. The pink city (which is not so anymore) looks amazing from above. Definitely an experience worth having if you live here!

I was in Jaipur on a work trip and last day of my tour was free so I wanted to do something fun. Hopped into a hot air balloon. The guys there really were like sayings things to inspire us and take away our fears but I didn?t need any of that. I was so damn excited about the whole thing, it ended too quickly!!! Will definitely go again if I am back here in the near future.

Hot air ballooning is so much fun! Definitely going to do this again. But this time I will do it in some other location. Love the whole vibe of Goa.
