It’s Always Sunny is coming to the UK

The Always Sunny Podcast LIVE! show is recording in London this spring

Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton will record a live tapping of The Always Sunny Podcast in London in April. The cast will perform a matinee and evening show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on April 16, to be followed the next day by a taping at Dublin’s 3Arena.

“Would anyone in England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland be interested in a Sunny live show in the Spring?” So asked actor, writer and football magnate Rob McElhenney on Twitter a few weeks ago. The fans answered, and anyone living in two of those four countries has good reason to celebrate this morning.

So far only McElhenney, Day and Howerton have confirmed their attendance, but we can only pray that they’ll bring Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito along for the jaunt. And maybe a guest turn from someone whose name rhymes with Bryan Breynolds?

McElhenney and Howerton created It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia and the show has now run for 15 seasons, making it the longest running live action show in US TV history. It was renewed in 2020 for a further four seasons.

Recently, McElhenney has been in the news when he purchased Wrexham Football Club with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds. Their takeover of the club and attempts to return it to past glories are documented in the Disney+ series Welcome To Wrexham .

It's Always Sunny podcast: London date and how to get tickets

always sunny tour london

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia follows the lives of a group of delusional narcissists navigating their way around life, with hilarious (and mischievous) consequences.

Due to the immense popularity of the sitcom , a new podcast entitled The Always Sunny Podcast will feature the cast taking us back to the original days and seeing how far (if anywhere) they have come.

Rob McElhenney , Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton, alongside host Megan Ganz, will be heading across the pond for two special shows.

Alongside bringing their acclaimed podcast to London ’s Royal Albert Hall , creators of the show and podcast are also set to delight fans in Dublin, Ireland.

What is The Always Sunny Podcast?

The podcast is a recap of the show by creator McElhenney featuring co-stars with special guests including Danny DeVito, Kaitlin Olson, David Hornsby, Mary Elizabeth, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The sitcom premiered on August 4, 2005, and quickly won a host of fans.

The series follows the hilarious exploits of “The Gang”, a group of misfits and somewhat degenerates who all run an Irish pub known as Paddy’s Pub in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The gang spend most of their time hatching a number of elaborate cons against each other, either for personal benefit or simply out of boredom.

Since the dark comedy first hit television screens, it quickly gained attention among fans, officially becoming the longest-running live-action sitcom in the US.

The low-budget show was described by creator McElhenney as “completely different, not something you’re seeing anywhere else” with “characters you’ve never seen before”.

If McElhenney’s name seems familiar it may be because he has been making headlines recently with pal Ryan Reynolds, with his hit show Welcome To Wrexham , where the two Hollywood stars buy and run a Welsh football club.

The Always Sunny Podcast announces London dates for live show – how to get tickets

Get ready for shocking stories, crass jokes, and a whole load of dark humour when the writers of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia come to the UK this April. Landing in London’s Royal Albert Hall, the group behind the US sitcom will be recording a live version of their podcast, and are promising “stories, laughs, and [to] reflect on 20 years of making the hit series”.

The Always Sunny Podcast was launched by Rob McElhenney and Glenn Howerton as a way of looking back at the best bits and behind-the-scenes moments of the hit comedy, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. It started up in 2021 shortly after the show reached its 15th season, then becoming the longest running sitcom of all time.

Each week, the two stars are joined by their co-star Charlie Day and fellow writer Megan Ganz and together, they recap every episode of the still-going series and share 20 years’ worth of stories from the set.

The live show was teased last month when McElhenney (who you might recognise from his recent Wrexham-buying activities with Ryan Reynolds) Tweeted : “Would anyone in England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland be interested in a Sunny live show in the spring? Asking for some friends looking to travel.”

For the uninitiated, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia tells the story of five sociopaths who run Paddy's Pub in, you guessed it, Philadelphia. Together, 'The Gang' is made up of Charlie Kelly (Day), Mac (McElhenney), Dennis Reynolds (Howerton), Frank Reynolds (Danny DeVito), and Dee Reynolds (Kaitlin Olson), and are united by their anti-social behaviour and general lack of interest in other people.

The pilot episode was originally shot on a digital camcorder as a short film, but quickly turned into the cult comedy we know and love today. Now, its European fans can get an exclusive look into the heart of the series by watching one of the three live shows in London and Dublin. So without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about tickets.

Even if you’ve not watched It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia religiously, you’ll definitely recognise certain scenes. Whether it’s the Pepe Silvia conspiracy meme or one of Danny DeVito’s tasteful jokes, the series has entered the cultural zeitgeist in so many ways.

At the live show, the cast will discuss some of these notorious moments, as well as behind-the-scenes secrets and general observations about their lives.

Here are the UK and Ireland dates:

  • 2:30pm, 16th April 2023 – Royal Albert Hall, London

‘The Always Sunny Podcast’ set for London and Dublin live shows

The gang headline the royal albert hall.

By Joe Goggins

Glenn Howerton and Rob McElhenney recording 'The Always Sunny Podcast', September 2022

The creators of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will bring their acclaimed podcast to London and Dublin this spring.

Live tapings of The Always Sunny Podcast are in the diary for the Royal Albert Hall on April 16, where a matinee and evening show are scheduled, and the Irish capital’s 3Arena on April 17. Tickets go on pre-sale this Wednesday (February 15) at 10am, before a general sale follows on Friday (February 17), also at 10am. The pre-sale code is SUNNY.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia , which follows the escapades of a degenerate group of friends running an Irish bar in Pennsylvania’s most-populous city, is the longest running live-action sitcom in US history, having been on the air since 2005.

The Always Sunny Podcast began life as a way for creator and actor Rob McElhenney to recap the show with co-stars Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton; it has since taken on a life of its own, with writer Megan Ganz as producer and de facto anchor and a long line of special guests including Sunny regulars Kaitlin Olson, Danny DeVito, Mary Elizabeth Ellis and David Hornsby as well as the likes of Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The pod’s initial remit has been broadened considerably to include episodes dedicated to drinking, health checks and the art of dance. Now, ‘The Gang’ will bring it to the UK, where McElhenney is spending ever more time since taking over Wrexham Football Club with Ryan Reynolds , and Ireland, the show’s spiritual home, where four episodes of the last season were shot in 2021.

Previous live tapings of the podcast took place in Philadelphia last September at The Met, as the stars unpacked the two-parter Mac and Charlie Die . The shows featured a guest appearance from Jimmi Simpson, who plays antagonist Liam McPoyle, as well as a musical interlude from Day, who took to the piano for uproarious takes on ‘I Like Paddy’s Pub’ and ‘Dayman’.

“I guess it’s a new medium in a way, right?,” Day said in an interview with  SPIN  last Autumn, in which he discussed the Philadelphia tapings. “It’s not stand-up comedy. It’s not a play. It’s not a rock show. So, what is it? We’re finding that out as we go. It’s a wonderful opportunity to entertain.”

Always Sunny Creators Bringing Live Podcast to London, Dublin

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

The creators and stars of the beloved FXX comedy It’s Always in Sunny in Philadelphia had such a fun time at the maiden live tapings of their The Always Sunny Podcast LIVE! last fall that they’re returning to the road again this spring.

Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton will perform a matinee and evening show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on April 16, which will be followed the next day by a taping at Dublin’s 8,000-capacity 3Arena. Tickets are available via pre-sale on Wednesday (Feb. 15) and to the general public on Friday.

The Always Sunny Podcast normally finds McElhenney, Day, Howerton, and Sunny producer/writer Megan Ganz chatting through unscripted recaps of past episodes in their own podcast studio, a simple approach which has helped the self-produced program average more than 2 million combined viewers/listeners across Spotify, YouTube, and Simplecast. However, the group’s handful of rapturously received, proof-of-concept live shows last September in Louisville, Ky., and Philadelphia inspired them to tape the podcast again in front of fans in April.

It doesn’t hurt that McElhenney, Day, and Howerton last year also launched their own Irish whiskey , Four Walls, which figures to feature prominently at the London and Dublin stops. McElhenney has a further connection to this part of the world thanks to his soccer-themed Hulu series Welcome to Wrexham , which he created and stars in with Ryan Reynolds.

“I guess it’s a new medium in a way, right?,” Day told SPIN last fall of the live podcast tapings. “It’s not stand-up comedy. It’s not a play. It’s not a rock show. So what is it? We’re finding that out as we go. It’s a wonderful opportunity to entertain.”

“I appreciate every moment spending time with these guys … just hanging out, talking,” McElhenney told SPIN about the chance to be creative with Howerton and Day in a new format. “If that’s where the next 10 years end up, I’m in. I can’t imagine a better life.”

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia has run since 2005 and stars McElhenney, Day and Howerton alongside Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito as a group of narcissistic friends who run a dive bar in Philadelphia.

Back in late 2021, McElhenney shared the original pilot script for the series on Instagram, which describes himself as “devastatingly talented, charming and handsome.”

He added in the comments: “I guess I wrote the first draft.”

The actor has made headlines in the last two years alongside Ryan Reynolds after the pair bought Welsh football team Wrexham A.F.C..

McElhenney

The story has been documented in Disney+ docuseries Welcome To Wrexham , and the two have been awarded the  freedom of Wrexham  by the city council for their work in promoting the city.

Last month, McElhenney missed Wrexham’s shock FA Cup victory over Coventry City after his ESPN+ feed in the US went down, with fans subsequently letting him know about the 4-3 victory on social media.

Reynolds said he was “totally speechless” by the win, while manager Phil Parkinson admitted the win was “up with the best” moments since he arrived at the team in July 2021.
