Interview: Daniel Webb of MARGARET CHO LIVE AND LIVID! at Fitzgerald Theatre

Daniel Webb is an LA-based comedian, writer, and musician hailing from Texas. His comedy has garnered recognition on renowned platforms such as Comedy Central , NBC, and BUTT Magazine. Wanda Sykes aptly describes Daniel in three concise words: "Riotous. Queer. Star."

Currently, Daniel is on tour with Margaret Cho , featuring their show "Live and Livid!" Recently, they made a captivating stop at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota.

In our conversation with Daniel, we delve into his comedic journey, the unique experience of touring alongside Margaret Cho , and his impressions of Minnesota!

 What inspired you to do comedy? 

I was inspired to do stand up comedy after all my other inspirations in life failed.

How has it been touring with Margaret Cho ? 

Touring with Margaret Cho has been life-changing, a walking masterclass in comedy, how to tour, how to cultivate a successful artist's life. Margaret Cho is beyond generous with her fans and people she works with, touring with her has been a once in a lifetime opportunity, I truly know how lucky I am to have this experience.

What do you hope the audience takes away from your comedy? 

I just want people to laugh at my jokes, the world is so crazy now.  Queer people are under attack, unions are striking, the world is on fire, Taylor Swift is our new & welcome overlord, I feel like we should talk about all of this together, if only to laugh at it.  Taylor if you're reading this, please send money.

Have you been to Minnesota before? Any favorite places here or places you're hoping to check out? 

I love Minnesota!  I'm ancient so we used to come here in the 90s, and once we threw a banana peel off the roof of the Mall of America parking garage and it actually landed on someone's head.  Minnesota is the best!

DANIEL WEBB is an LA-based comic and musician from Texas, whose stand-up has been described as “a splendid rush of charisma.” Wanda Sykes recently summed Daniel up in three simple words, “Riotous.  Queer.  Star.”  Daniel has recently performed at the Netflix Is a Joke Festival all over LA, the Moontower Comedy Festival in Austin, will soon be on the road opening for comedy legend Margaret Cho and is part of a new comedy documentary hitting the film festival circuit this summer! Daniel was recently 1 of 10 handpicked comedians to perform at Warner Media’s Virtual Comedy Showcase 2021, he currently co-hosts & produces HAGS in Los Angeles, and just released his one hour special Hoe’s Parade: Live at the Rose Bowl available now.

Known for a fast-paced, wide-ranging set, Daniel famously garnered international attention cracking gay jokes with President Barack Obama, featured for Margaret Cho nationwide (2020), was a feature performer at JFL Northwest 2020, was selected as Comedy Central’s UP NEXT Comedians, made Vulture’s list of Comedians You Should and Will Know, LA Comedy Bureau’s 100 Best Things In Comedy, and was a FINALIST on STAND UP NBC.

Our Museum is open to the public May through October and December. Admission to the Webb Deane Stevens Museum includes our exhibit ion galleries in the Holcombe Education Center, access to our 8-acre campus and gardens, and a guided tour of our three restored historic houses .

Parking and Getting Here

The Webb Deane Stevens Museum is located at 211 Main Street in Wethersfield, Connecticut.  

Free street parking is available, as well as in the public lot at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center at 200 Main Street.    

Free parking is also available behind the Webb Barn on the Museum campus.  

The Buttolph-Williams House

The Buttolph-Williams House (a property of Connecticut Landmarks) is open for tours Thursday-Saturday at 10:00 am.  Buttolph-Williams House tours leave from the Webb Deane Stevens Museum. Please arrive 10 minutes early to purchase tickets. Tours are available May-October. Admission is $10 per person.

Can I take photographs of the Museum exhibitions and in the houses?

P hotographs may be taken for personal use only. Because of the age of the items in our collection, we ask that you do not use a flash. Photography may be restricted for certain exhibitions and programs. Please share your photos on social media!

Is your museum wheelchair accessible?

The Webb Deane Stevens Museum Shop, Webb Barn, Holcombe Education Center, and exhibition galleries are ADA compliant. The Silas Deane, and Isaac Stevens Houses are not handicap accessible due to the age of the structures. The first floor of the Joseph Webb House is wheelchair accessible.  

Are food and drink allowed in the Museum?

Food and drink are not allowed in the Museum galleries or in the Webb, Deane, and Stevens Houses. Food and drink may be consumed at the bistro tables in our front courtyard and back patio or on the picnic tables on the grounds of the Museum campus.  

How is the Museum handling guest safety during the COVID-19 pandemic?

• The Museum strictly follows both state and local COVID-19 protocol to ensure guest safety.
• If you do not feel well, please stay at home for the safety of our staff and guests.
• House tours are limited to 15 individuals per tour.
• Guests are welcome to wear face masks in accordance with their comfort level. Face masks are available upon request at the Guest Services Desk.
• Please try to maintain 6 feet between yourself, staff, and guests not in your group.
• Our cleaning protocols comply with all current Connecticut guidelines.

Where can I purchase food and drink?

Soda, iced tea, and bottled water, as well as light snack items, are available for purchase in the Museum S hop . There are many locally owned restaurants offering both casual and fine dining within a short walking distance of the M useum.

How long should I plan for my visit?

If you would like to experience all the Museum has to offer: historic three-house tour, gardens, exhibitions, and store, please plan for 2.5 hours. Our guided historic house tours are 75 minutes and exhibitions are self-guided. If time is short, please consider becoming a member and return as often as you like!  

Will my kids enjoy the Museum?

We’ve found that children love learning about history (especially the privies!). The Museum regularly hosts family-friendly events and programs appealing to children ages 8 and older. Check out our events calendar to learn more or look at our Education section to find information on school or other youth programs and activities.  

Are pets allowed in the Museum?

Service animals are allowed in the Holcombe Education Center and museum shop. Service animals and leashed pets are allowed on Museum grounds, which are also enjoyed by the local community. Please do not leave your pets unaccompanied on Museum grounds or locked in your cars.

Teenage boy who allegedly stabbed bishop in Sydney's south-west charged with committing a terrorist act

A teenage boy has been charged with a terrorism offence by police after he allegedly stabbed a bishop in Sydney's south-west on Monday night.

The 16-year-old allegedly stabbed Sydney bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel during a live-streamed service at Christ the Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley.

Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel suffered lacerations to his head while 39-year-old Father Isaac Royel received cuts and a shoulder injury when he attempted to intervene.

The alleged offender was restrained by people inside the church and was later arrested by police.

He sustained a finger injury during the alleged stabbing and was taken to hospital. 

On Thursday, he was charged with committing a terrorist act.

The boy was interviewed by investigators from the Joint Counter Terrorism Team at a medical facility before he was charged.

The teen has been refused bail and is expected to appear before a bedside court hearing on Friday.

New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb had declared the attack a "terrorist incident" early on Tuesday morning, in a move supported by ASIO.

A riot broke out outside the church shortly after the stabbing, where police said more than 50 officers were injured.

One officer suffered a broken jaw and another sustained facial and knee injuries during the unrest.

On Wednesday afternoon, police arrested and charged a 19-year-old man with riot, affray and destroy/damage property during public disorder. 

Strike Force Dribbs, which is investigating the incident, is expected to arrest more people in connection with the riot.

Bishop forgives attacker

Bishop Emmanuel, who is recovering in hospital, said he forgives "whoever has done this act" on Thursday morning.

He relayed the message in an audio recording shared to social media.

"I will always pray for you. And whoever sent you to do this. I forgive them as well in Jesus's mighty name," he said.

In the almost four-minute speech, Bishop Emmanuel reassured his followers that his condition was improving.

"I'm doing fine, recovering very quickly. We thank the Lord Jesus, so there is no need to be worried or concerned," he said.

Father Daniel Kochou, who also spoke, said Father Isaac Royel, was "recovering well".

He added "nearby church members" who were attacked had also "received special care".
