Kentucky is getting lucky again: A second Buc-ee's is coming to the Bluegrass State.

The Texas-based travel center announced on Monday that it will be breaking ground on its second location in Smiths Grove, Kentucky, just outside of Bowling Green.

The new location will be at 4001 Smiths Grove-Scottsville Road, with the groundbreaking taking place on June 5.

"We are excited to be in Western Kentucky along a beautiful stretch of I-65 between Nashville and Louisville," said Stan Beard of Buc-ee's in a news release. "Smiths Grove will be the smallest town with a Buc-ee's. It has a big heart just like we do, so we'll get along just fine!"

This location will be 53,471 square feet and equipped with 120 fueling stations. It is projected it open in the summer of 2024.

Buc-ee's has a cult-like following and is known for its clean bathrooms, massive gas stations, homemade fudge, kolaches and Beaver Nuggets.

It even has its own mascot, Beaver, named after Buc-ee's founder Arch "Beaver" Aplin III.

SMITHS GROVE, Ky., May 15, 2023 (Newswire.com) - Buc-ee's , home of the world's cleanest bathrooms, freshest food and friendliest beaver, will break ground on its new travel center in Smiths Grove, Kentucky, on Monday, June 5, 2023. At 10:30 a.m. CST, Buc-ee's will celebrate the start of construction with a ceremony attended by local and state leaders who helped make the project possible. 

Buc-ee's Smiths Grove is the second Buc-ee's location in Kentucky. The first, Buc-ee's Richmond, opened in April of 2022.

Located at 4001 Smiths Grove-Scottsville Road, Buc-ee's Smiths Grove will occupy 53,471 square feet and offer 120 fueling positions. Buc-ee's favorites including Texas barbeque, homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver Nuggets, jerky and fresh pastries will all be available. Buc-ee's to break ground on second Kentucky location next month

SMITHS GROVE, Ky. — Buc-ee's, the Texas-based chain of travel centers with a cult following and lovable beaver mascot, is expanding its presence in Kentucky. The company will break ground on a travel center in Smiths Grove in Western Kentucky on June 5, the Herald Leader reported .

Buc-ee's is breaking ground on its second kentucky location next month the travel center in smiths grove is expected to open in 2024 the company's first kentucky location opened in richmond in april 2022.

Often hailed for its wide array of gas pumps, award-winningly clean bathrooms and tasty brisket sandwiches, Buc-ee's first broke ground in the Bluegrass in Richmond, near Lexington. That travel center opened in April 2022 .

The 53,471-square-foot travel center, at 4001 Smiths Grove-Scottsville Road, will boast 120 fueling positions at the spot along I-65 near Bowling Green—nestled between Louisville and Nashville, Tenn. It’s expected to open in the summer of 2024.

“We are excited to be in Western Kentucky along a beautiful stretch of I-65 between Nashville and Louisville,” said Stan Beard of Buc-ee’s in a news release. “Smiths Grove will be the smallest town with a Buc-ee’s. It has a big heart just like we do, so we’ll get along just fine!”

A third location is expected to open in Western Kentucky in Oak Grove also reportedly in 2024 but construction has yet to begin, the Herald Leader reported.

About 240 full-time employees work at the Buc-ee’s in Richmond. Starting pay is $16 per hour, and full-time employees get three weeks paid time off, health insurance offered after 60 days, a 6% company 401K match after working for one year.

The Smiths Grove location is expected to create over 200 jobs in the area.

Smiths Grove Buc-ee’s set to open doors in May 2024

SMITHS GROVE, Ky. (WBKO) - Construction on the incoming Buc-ee’s location in Smiths Grove is well underway, and crews say that their timeline is ahead of schedule.

At the groundbreaking ceremony for the Texas-based gas station behemoth in early June, officials expected to complete the facility by summer 2024. That opening date has now been moved forward one month, to the end of May.

Much of the site’s underground and exterior work has been completed. Heath Crawford, heavy civil construction manager for Scotty’s Contracting and Stone, says interior work is set to begin soon.

“The fuel canopy, a lot of the work’s been done on it, fuel tanks have been set, a lot of the storm sewers have gone in, a lot of the big and important aspects of this project have quite a bit of the work’s been done already,” Crawford said. “So, here before too long, you’re going to see a big change to this site.”

However, with construction on the 54,000-square-foot facility running ahead of schedule and over 100 fuel stations almost complete, Crawford says that the next steps include preparing the surrounding roadways for the influx of drivers set to descend on the city.

“Around early November, we’ll be starting on the Kentucky 101 work that takes place for this project,” Crawford said. “There’s a roundabout that’s going to be built, the exit ramps, northbound and southbound works will be widened, there’ll be some roadway lighting installed, so lots of work to be done on Kentucky 101 between now and spring.”

Crawford said that the roadways will not be shut down for that construction, though there will be personnel directing traffic until its completion in April.

In providing over 200 jobs to the Smiths Grove area, Crawford sees the gas station as a valuable asset to the growing community.

“Smiths Grove’s a special place, it’s got a lot of great history, and it’s beautiful,” Crawford said. “I think Buc-ee’s coming to town is only going to make that better for the community.”

My husband and I decided on Schlotsky’s for a quick dinner. We recently received a whole sheet of coupons in the mail for this establishment. We went through the drive thru. My husband told them we had a coupon and was immediately told their coupons... wasn’t working. Their coupons wasn’t working???? I, myself thought the French Dip sounded good with the au ju, I mean is it truly a French Dip without the Au ju? We were told that the French Dip wouldn’t have the carmelized onions on it which is advertised on their menu. I said ok that will be fine. My husband ordered the roast beef sandwich. We get to the window and pay and when we receive our order I looked in the bag and there was no Au ju sauce. We waited at the window until someone passed by and they came to the window and told them the Au ju for the French dip was not in the bag. The girl had no clue what we were talking about. She said she would go ask. She comes back and then says that they don’t have Au ju. Are you kidding me? French Dip, hence the word DIP. French Dip Sandwiches come with Au ju. That’s what you DIP the sandwich in. Needless to say, I was not a very happy customer. My husband asked me if we should just get our money back and I said No let’s just take it. Advice: Don’t get the French Dip because you will have nothing to dip it in. Roast beef was dry, very dry. It says it comes on a Pretzel Bun. Mine was on hamburger bun. My husband’s sandwich looked great and he said it was good, but, mine was a different story. I’ll think twice before I get another sandwich here. Very disappointed! More

Buc-ee’s plans second Ky. location set to begin construction this June

SMITHS GROVE, Ky. (WAVE) - Buc-ee’s, known for its large convenience stores and the “world’s cleanest bathrooms” will be breaking ground at Kentucky’s second location this summer.

The new travel center will be located in western Kentucky in Smiths Grove and will be the smallest city in the country with a Buc-ee’s location, according to a release.

Construction will formally begin at 4001 Smiths Grove-Scottsville Road on June 5 with a ceremony attended by local and state leaders.

This is the second Buc-ee’s in Kentucky, with the first opening in Richmond in April 2022.

Smiths Grove community members excited about new Buc-ee’s location

SMITHS GROVE, Ky. (WBKO) - Texas-based convenience store Buc-ee’s is set to open this summer in Smiths Grove right off of I-65.

“The people at Buc-ee’s aren’t really letting anything out on [an open date] yet because they’re still wanting to finalize in detail, everything, but early summer we should see it,” said Smiths Grove Mayor David Stiffey. “They told us during the groundbreaking ceremony, ‘When the doors open, they’re open, they don’t ever close after that.’”

Stiffey is excited to bring the business and jobs to the area despite some concerns from locals.

“Well, of course, everybody thinks the traffic’s going to be a nightmare, but with the road improvements, we’re just hopeful that it won’t be so bad that people can’t get in and out when they need to,” he said.

One resident, Michael Bennett, thinks the store is a positive for the area but is worried about traffic congestion and how small businesses will be affected by the chain.

“Overall it’s pretty good for the town as far as revenue,” Bennett said. “I think it’s going to cause a little more traffic in town. We’re used to having no stop lights and now we’re going to have probably two.”

Stiffey thinks that the local community will be able to find alternative routes that visitors coming off of I-65 won’t know. One of the traffic concerns involves the new roundabout, which Bennett says he has already seen marks on it from trucks.

“The first issue is the traffic,” said Chief of Smiths Grove Police Department Jason Franks. “A lot of locals are concerned, especially farmers. They’re concerned the roundabout isn’t big enough.”

Franks said that since witnessing other parts of Warren County’s recent growth, the town has been expecting it to move up towards Smiths Grove and that the police department and other local agencies will continue to meet the community’s needs.

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of this town, we absolutely want to see them successful,” Franks said.

The police department now has three full-time police officers, which the mayor said will help with the influx of people.

Buc-ee’s will have a mass hiring event at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green from May 14 to 16. They are hiring for cashier, deli, gift, grocery, cleaning, and maintenance associates.
