Olivia Rodrigo and Louis Partridge’ s romance is anything but Sour .

The “ Vampire ” singer first sparked dating rumors with the Enola Holmes actor in late 2023 before eventually confirming their relationship in December 2023, when they were photographed sharing a kiss.

Though they still aren't very public with their relationship, the two have been there for each other in many ways.

Notably, Partridge has supported Rodrigo’s music career by attending her Saturday Night Live taping in December and recently following her around the world as she hits the stage for her Guts World Tour .

Meanwhile, Rodrigo has shown her adoration for Partridge through song. As the singer released a deluxe version of her sophomore album, titled Guts (Spilled) , she also debuted a brand-new track titled “So American,” seemingly inspired by the English actor.

Recently, Rodrigo gave a sweet nod to her boyfriend as she changed the lyrics to the song during her Dublin, Ireland concert, hinting that she was in love.

Here’s a complete timeline of their relationship.

October 2023: Olivia Rodrigo and Louis Partridge spark dating rumors

Shortly before Halloween, Rodrigo and Partridge sparked dating rumors as they were seen hanging out in London together. In photos shared on social media, Rodrigo could be seen walking with the English actor, arms wrapped around each other's waists.

The newfound relationship came about a year after Rodrigo was linked to DJ Zack Bia , who many fans believe to be the inspiration behind her track “Vampire .” Meanwhile, Partridge was previously linked to his Pistol costar and the daughter of Kyle Chandler , Sydney Chandler .

Months after photos surfaced of them hanging out before Halloween, the two added fuel to dating rumors as Partridge was spotted in the crowd at Rodrigo’s Jingle Ball concert at Madison Square Garden.

In a clip shared by iHeartRadio , the actor could be seen dancing and singing to Rodrigo’s set alongside her close friends Conan Gray and Madison Hu.

The next day, Partridge showed his support for Rodrigo yet again as she performed on Saturday Night Live . After performing her hit songs “Vampire” and “All-American Bitch,” Rodrigo was seen attending an afterparty with Partridge by her side. According to Just Jared , the two were seen leaving the party together in the same car.

December 13, 2023: Olivia Rodrigo and Louis Partridge confirm their romance with a kiss

Later that month, Rodrigo and Partridge confirmed their relationship as they were seen showing PDA during an outing New York City. While making a pit stop at a gas station, the two were photographed sharing a passionate kiss .

The following day, they were spotted strolling around the quaint town of Tannersville in upstate New York. An onlooker told PEOPLE they browsed apothecary goods at a shop called Sundry on Main Street and were “very cute” as they “mostly spoke with gazes and body language.”

Partridge was a proud boyfriend as he supported Rodrigo during the opening night of her Guts World Tour . In videos shared by fans, Partridge was seen enjoying the show with Rodrigo’s close friend Iris Apatow. In a clip shared by Apatow , fans are convinced he whispered, “She looks beautiful,” while Rodrigo was performing “Traitor.”

Partridge also posted about the concert on his Instagram Stories, sharing a photo of Rodrigo on stage with the caption, “So so so so good.”

March 2024: Louis Partridge talks about media attention surrounding his relationship with Olivia Rodrigo

During an interview with British Vogue , Partridge was asked about their relationship.

“Dating probably shouldn’t be done in the public eye,” he replied. “There’s enough going on between two people. You don’t need the voices of thousands of others in your head. I think she’s got it a lot worse than I have. I can be a bit of a normal person. She’s got tons and tons of eyes on her case.”

He added that he tries to block on the noise surrounding their relationship. “If there’s a load of people nattering in a room about you, you can choose to put your ear to the door to hear what they say or not,” he explained. “I think you’re probably better off not letting curiosity get the better of you.”

March 22, 2024: Olivia Rodrigo releases ‘So American’ seemingly inspired by Louis Partridge

In March 2024, Rodrigo released a deluxe edition of Guts which featured a brand-new single that fans speculated was about Partridge. Titled “ So American ,” the track features Rodrigo singing about falling for a (seemingly un-American) guy who teases her for the American things she does.

The chorus contains the lyrics, “Oh God, I'm gonna marry him / If he keeps this s--- up / I might just be in love.”

April 19, 2024: Olivia Rodrigo and Louis Partridge have a dinner date in L.A.

Following her surprise appearance at Coachella with No Doubt, Rodrigo and Partridge stepped out together for a dinner date in Los Angeles. The couple matched in casual checkered-themed outfits as they were seen waiting for their car after dinner.

Later that month, Rodrigo performed “So American” for the first time in Dublin, Ireland. During the concert, for which Partridge was in attendance, the singer sweetly changed the lyrics, giving a major update on their relationship.

On the song’s bridge in the studio version, Rodrigo sings, “I don’t wanna assume this stuff / But ain’t it love? / Think I’m in love.” But during the show, Rodrigo went with something a bit more definitive, ending the line with, “‘Cause I’m in love,” according to a fan video shared to X (formerly known as Twitter) .

May 8, 2024: Olivia Rodrigo announces her Asian and Australian tour dates (with a little help from Louis Partridge)

On May 8, Partridge helped Rodrigo announce her Asia and Australian tour dates. In a video shared to her TikTok account, Rodrigo can be seen frolicking through the park as a person behind the camera (which fans immediately recognized was Partridge) shouts out various cities for the tour, to which Rodrigo excitedly asks, “When?!” (with the dates displayed on screen).

Madonna Closes Out Celebration Tour in Front of Record-Setting 1.6 Million Fans in Brazil

By Daniel Kreps

Daniel Kreps

Madonna closed out her career-spanning Celebration Tour Saturday with a free concert at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s Copacabana Beach in front of 1.6 million fans, setting the record for the largest audience ever for a stand-alone concert by any artist in history.

The performance marked Madonna’s first time performing in Brazil since 2012, and was heralded as “a thank you to her fans for celebrating more than four decades of her music over the course of the epic global run of the tour,” Live Nation previously said of the event.

Copacabana Beach has long been a magnet for epic, well-populated shows, notably a Rolling Stones gig in 2006 that drew an estimated (and then record-setting) 1.5 million fans. Madonna’s show Saturday night toppled the record, with Live Nation putting the attendance at 1.6 million people who turned Copacabana Beach into “the world’s largest dancefloor.”

Madonna opened her Celebration Tour at London’s O2 Arena in London back in October 2023, touring across Europe through December. She kicked off the U.S. leg of her tour in New York City on Dec. 13, with shows scheduled through April 26 — including a five-show run at Mexico City’s Palacio de los Deportes.

The tour has had several major guests along the way: In Los Angeles,  Kylie Minogue  and  Cardi B  joined her on stage on separate occasions.

  • X (formerly Twitter)

One of Australia's most revered artists Matt Corby has shared a dreamy new single 'Big Smoke'  and reveals his plans to hit the road for his first tour in four years - that's too many years, Matt!

'Big Smoke' is the latest cut from his upcoming third album 'Everything's Fine' following the release of 'Problems' and 'Reelin'' and is perhaps the most insular so far.

Carefully struck synths and toms paired with breathless vocals transport you to an almost hallucinatory state.

The 2019 J Award winner reveals the album, his first record in five years, vividly captures his personal and creative growth.

“I'm currently rebuilding a lot of my foundational stuff,” says Matt.

“Covid changed me a lot, slowed me down. I feel like I've become aware of a lot of the stuff I need to work on, and I'm happy to start – and I have been."

Everything's Fine comes out on Friday 24 March and this tour is your chance to experience the album live and in-full later this year.

The Smoke Out Tour debuting at the Microsoft Theater on April 20 is nearly sold-out, a rare feat for a regional Mexican show four weeks ahead of opening night. Fans will experience a themed show around marijuana, corridos about the cannabis lifestyle and a stage decked out with a storefront dispensary with actors in between sets paying homage to films such as Friday and Cheech & Chong’s Up in Smoke .

See latest videos, charts and news

“We are ecstatic to present this new wave of regional Mexican talent at Microsoft Theater on 4/20,” says Niria Leon, AEG Presents Latin Talent Buyer, adding that the April show next month is about 90 percent sold out.

For Jimmy Humilde, 37, president of the Rancho Humilde label and producer of the show, the thirst for ticket sales is attributed to the young “bands who sing about real things that they have lived,” says the label president, who also manages most of the bands performing on the tour.  Nearly 50 dates are scheduled throughout the U.S.

“Our artists sing corridos verdes, which is part of a lifestyle,” Humilde says. “Many fans can relate to it and that’s a movement that keeps gaining momentum.”

Trending on Billboard

Pepe garza is 'the rainmaker of regional mexican music'.

The tour was officially presented on Thursday (March 22) during a press conference in Los Angeles along with participating acts Legado 7 , Omar Ruiz , El De La Guitar, Arsenal Efectivo and Los Hijos de Garcia, all recording artists in their late teens to mid 20s, who began performing in underground shows. This year also marks Rancho Humilde’s 10th anniversary, while Humilde’s tenure in music started as a manager when he was 17.

For singer/songwriter Francisco “Shrek” Rodriguez of Arsenal Efectivo, the tour and being part of the Rancho Humilde label means everything to him because even during personal setbacks, his label and bandmates never forget him, as he completed a prison term last year after being arrested for the trafficking of contraband weapons, he said.

“When you have people around you who care to see you again after spending some time in prison, it says a lot about who they are,” says Rodriguez, who performs a type of music known as trap corridos. “They are family and that means a lot to me.”

Pepe Garza, the veteran Los Angeles program director at FM station KBUE (Que Buena), who oversees the popular morning show  Don Cheto Al Aire , has long been a champion of regional Mexican acts.

The Smoke Out Tour “shows that green corridos are successful, especially here in Los Angeles,” said Garza, who was scheduled to make an appearance during the tour’s press conference to present the tour to members of the media. “When a tour like this sells remarkably fast and way ahead of opening night, it shows how popular the genre is when tied around corridos and marijuana.”

For Humilde, the tour is the effort of many years of hard work, but it also took time to build an audience, he says, which included reaching out to people with “guerrilla street teams” armed with flyers.

“I’m going to be honest with you, I’ve never been nervous,” says Humilde, who was born and raised in Venice, Calif. “I loved regional Mexican music early in my life. I love what I do. It’s a gift from God.”

As Singaporeans tire of rat race, incoming PM reimagines ‘Singapore Dream’

Prime Minister-in-waiting Lawrence Wong says residents are looking for more out of life than material success.

singapore

Singapore – For three decades, Singaporean corporate lawyer Gerald Yeo* chased the so-called Singapore Dream.

He climbed the ranks to become general counsel, managing a team of lawyers on a six-figure monthly salary.

China’s xi jinping begins first europe tour in five years in france, russia-ukraine war: list of key events, day 802, australia’s qantas to pay $79m over ‘ghost flights’ furore, bodies of murdered australian, us surfers identified in mexico.

Sometimes he would rack up 20 hours at work handling calls with clients and colleagues in Asia, Europe and Latin America.

When COVID-19 forced employees to start working from home, Yeo put in even more face-time online – until he suffered burnout and swapped the rat race for retirement in early 2021.

These days, Yeo volunteers with the elderly, dabbles in photography and indulges his love of travel, with jaunts that have taken him to the North Pole and Africa to spot gorillas.

“In Singapore, it’s drilled into our minds to pursue excellence, and you can’t slack off  …We are always ‘on’. You have the mindset that you’re serving the corporation but without knowing, you slip into doing too much,” Yeo, who is in his 50s, told Al Jazeera.

Yeo is among a growing cohort of Singaporeans who are seeking to reimagine the Singapore Dream as being less about achieving material success and more about finding meaning and fulfilment.

Singapore’s prime minister-in-waiting, Lawrence Wong , is among those who argue the time has come for the city-state’s residents to look beyond money and work.

After the launch of a report on residents’ views on the future of the social compact in October, Wong said Singaporeans today “no longer talk so much about the five Cs” – referring to a condominium, car, cash, credit card and country club membership.

“From our engagements, it is also clear the Singapore Dream is more than just material success,” Wong, who is deputy prime minister and finance minister, said at the launch of a festival based on the findings of a 16-month consultation involving more than 200,000 Singaporeans.

“It is also about fulfilment, meaning and purpose in what we do. This is not a top-down government agenda. This is very much a shared consensus, a co-created road map for our next round of nation building.”

Singapore, whose government tightly controls displays of dissent and political activism by the population, is on the cusp of a major political transition.

Current Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, 72 — the eldest son of Singapore’s founding leader Lee Kuan Yew — is this month stepping down from the helm of the tiny city-state after two decades in office.

On May 15, Wong will be sworn in as Singapore’s fourth prime minister.

Lawrence Wong

Under Lee Kuan Yew’s leadership, Singapore transitioned from poverty to prosperity within a generation of gaining its independence from Malaysia in 1965.

Today, Singapore has a higher gross domestic product (GDP) per capita than the United States and its residents enjoy some of the highest living standards on earth.

While Singapore’s success has been credited to a culture of competition and hard work, the city-state has also gained a notorious reputation as one of the most overworked, stressed-out and strait-laced societies in the world.

But there are signs that priorities are beginning to shift.

In a survey carried out in October by the Institute of Policy Studies, more than half of Singaporeans said they would accept lower pay or a less senior role to benefit their family or personal life.

Wong, who gained plaudits for his handling of the country’s pandemic response, has been seen as Lee’s successor since April 2022, when the long-dominant People’s Action Party (PAP) chose him as head of its team of “4G”, or fourth generation, leaders.

A former technocrat, Wong emerged as a dark horse for the premiership after the PAP’s first choice, Heng Swee Keat, a former central bank chief and education minister, stepped aside in 2021 citing age and health issues.

Wong, a self-professed fan of playing the guitar and listening to rock, blues and soul, has admitted to not harbouring any grand political ambitions and has been portrayed in international media as being more relatable than as is typical of Singapore’s governing elites.

A spokesperson for Wong declined a request for comment, citing his busy schedule.

Donald Low, a professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology who studies Singaporean governance, said that Singapore cannot simply prioritise GDP growth or emulate other more advanced societies or economies going forward.

“This is not because Singapore has nothing to learn from other countries. Rather, it’s because Singapore is now at the leading edge of development and it’d have to chart its own future…The country must harness the creativity and ingenuity of its people – to a far greater degree than the PAP government has been used to,” Low told Al Jazeera.

Low said that while he hopes Wong can oversee “small but much-needed changes” in Singapore’s political culture, it is unlikely he will do much to satisfy Singaporeans’ desire for the government to embrace greater diversity and representation – or better tolerate dissent and criticism.

“Because the party leadership is not emotionally convinced that there is much merit in what the critics or dissenters have to say – a consequence of its elitism and high-handedness – I don’t see any significant shifts in the way the PAP conducts politics,” he said.

Singapore

Chong Ja Ian, a political analyst at the National University of Singapore, said that more Singaporeans are expressing interest in issues beyond monetary and material success – including the environment, meaningful political participation and diversity – which may shape their career plans and how they devote their money, time and energy.

Chong said that while the PAP has been trying to soften its image and engage more with younger people, it is “less clear when and whether such contact and image management have translated into concrete changes in policy”.

Chong pointed out that Wong has largely stressed continuity.

“Whether and how he intends to move in a clearer and bolder direction on these issues – especially how he transforms general principles and ideas into specific and concrete policies – remains to be seen,” he said.

Eugene Tan, a law professor at Singapore Management University, said the Forward SG initiative to rejuvenate the social compact should be seen as an “attempt to strike the balance between material and post-material concerns”.

“Going beyond material concerns to balancing that with post-material aspirations – fairness, social justice, egalitarianism, national identity – is not just about putting in place and financing measures that support the policy shifts identified in the Forward SG report,” Tan told Al Jazeera.

“It is a fundamental mindset shift requiring tangible behavioural changes and committed action that will take years before the outcomes would be evident. The question is will Singaporeans be prepared to wait patiently.”

Tan said that announcements in the 2024 Budget, such as financial incentives for graduates of the Institute of Technical Education, which provides vocational training to post-secondary students, are an important first and necessary step.

Still, Tan acknowledged that shifting the perception that growth is necessary at all costs has been difficult.

“The vulnerability of Singapore means that material concerns are always writ large but Singaporeans do not want that to be all that is to life in Singapore,” he said.

“Forward SG seeks to nudge and mould societal understanding of success and if the PAP under Wong is unable to do that successfully, then its political grip on power will weaken further and faster.”

While Singapore’s economic transformation was a vote-winner for Singaporeans born before and shortly after independence, millennials and members of Gen Z who have only ever known prosperity are in many cases itching for change, as demonstrated by the rising vote share for the opposition Workers’ Party.

Jayee, a student at Nanyang Technological University, said he acknowledged that the PAP has gradually allowed greater space for discourse on issues like LGBTQ rights and income inequality, but wished for more sufficient checks.

“While the PAP has done wonders for the country, it is often done with a heavy-handed approach…There is a real need for more watchmen in parliament to scrutinise the PAP and question their policies and conduct,” he told Al Jazeera.

Toby Ang*, a former civil servant in his 30s, said he is more worried about structural issues in the economy, such as stagnating wage growth, that cast a cloud over the city-state’s future trajectory.

“Real leadership and fresh ideas are lacking,” Ang told Al Jazeera.

Ang said he is unconvinced that Singaporeans who aspire to a more egalitarian society are prepared for the necessary trade-offs.

“The future state of the economy is quite worrisome. I am a bit concerned that we have put ourselves on a slippery slope, that we are moving towards a high-income Scandinavian model. But we are wired very differently in psyche from the Nordics,” he said.

SMU’s Tan said that Singaporeans increasingly expect a government that “talks with – rather than talks to or, worse, talks down to – the average citizen”.

“They want Singapore to remain exceptional but also a place that they can call home even as others make the country their hotel and playground,” he said.

“Ultimately, they want their views to matter and they want to be courted for their votes.”

As for Yeo, the former corporate lawyer, he is determined to make up for the time he lost working himself to the bone.

“I wonder what life would have been like if I’d lived differently in the past, if I’d set more boundaries and prioritised my well-being instead,” he said.
