Meanwhile, last week Lizzo has made history by becoming the first person in two centuries to play the Library of Congress’ 200-year-old crystal flute .

The huge moment took place last Tuesday (September 27) at Lizzo’s Washington DC show where she played the flute which was originally owned by the fourth president of the United States, James Madison.

Sharing a clip of the performance on Twitter after the show, Lizzo wrote: “NOBODY HAS EVER HEARD THIS FAMOUS CRYSTAL FLUTE BEFORE […] NOW YOU HAVE.”

Lizzo announces UK and Europe ‘The Special Tour’ dates

Lizzo is heading to the uk for four nights of 'the special tour'..

By Emily Maskell

Lizzo

It’s about damn time! Lizzo has announced the UK and Europe leg of her 2023 ‘The Special Tour’.

Announcing a string of dates for spring 2023, the Grammy award-winning singer tweeted: “It’s about damn time The Special Tour came to the UK and Europe.”

ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME THE SPECIAL TOUR CAME TO THE UK AND EUROPE! YALL BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE — UK & EU GET UR TIX 10/7 AT 12PM LOCAL TIME. pic.twitter.com/BPzlppVQW4 — FOLLOW @YITTY (@lizzo) October 3, 2022

Lizzo’s European dates begin in Oslo on 17 February and conclude at The O2 in London on 15 March.

She has four UK pitstops (Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, and London) alongside one night in Dublin through March.

The 34-year-old singer will be joined by Brit Award nominee Joy Crooks as the support act on the UK dates.

Tickets go on general sale at 12 pm on Friday (7 October) – find a show near you and more information here .

‘Truth Hurts’ hitmaker Lizzo previously left LGBTQ+ fans delighted with the uplifting message of her track ‘Everybody’s Gay’ .

Lizzo debuted the song in June at a West Hollywood tribute show by RuPaul’s Drag Race season 14-star Kornbread in front of an adoring crowd.

The chorus is an eruption of energy as Lizzo sings: “Dance the night away (Keep your p***y poppin’, pop those percolates). Everybody’s gay, yeah (It’s a happy place in here, baby, you’re safe). We can take our mask off. We can all ball and parlay. I can hardly wait.”

“I wanted to write a fantasy song, like one of those Hollywood songs where you’re taken away to a picture that I’m painting, a dream sequence kind of thing,” Lizzo told Apple Music . She noted that ‘Everybody’s Gay’ is the album’s centrepiece.

“And no, when I sing ‘Take your mask off,’ I didn’t mean your N95,” she adds. “I meant like the mask of the person that you have to uphold when you’re out in the world… Take that off, because we accept you for who you are in this space.”

NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Lizzo adds extra London date to European Tour because she’s that much of an in-demand icon

Lizzo performing on stage.

Of course Lizzo needs to add another show to her upcoming European tour.

The Truth Hurts hitmaker is making her way to our shores next year and after her shows in Glasgow, Birmingham , Manchester and London went on sale, the truth is that the demand is calling for more.

Today tickets went on sale for an extra date added to the tour which will see her grace the stage at London’s O2 arena for another night on Thursday March 16, with tickets for the Wednesday show still available, albeit in a limited availability at time of writing.

Will James Madison’s 200-year-old crystal flute make the journey with her? Unlikely.

Last week the first round of tickets for Lizzo’s tour went on sale, ahead of the Grammy award-winning artist’s European leg of The Special Tour, which kicks off February 17, 2023 in Oslo, Norway at Spektrum.

It comes off the back of Lizzo’s recent win for video for good at the VMA’s for About Damn Time, along with the same track reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and the top 10 in 12 other countries.

Lizzo on stage.

The Special Tour dates:

February 17 – Oslo, NO – Spektrum February 18 – Copenhagen, DK – Royal Arena February 20 – Hamburg, DE – Barclays Arena February 23 – Amsterdam, NL – Ziggo Dome February 24 – Antwerp, BE – Sportpaleis February 27 – Cologne, DE – Lanxess Arena February 28 – Berlin, DE– Mercedes-Benz Arena March 2 – Milan, IT – Mediolanum Forum March 3 – Zurich, CH – Hallenstadion March 5 – Paris, FR– Accor Arena March 8 – Glasgow, UK – OVO Hydro Arena March 9 – Birmingham, UK – Utilitia Arena March 11 – Manchester, UK – AO Arena March 13 – Dublin, IE – 3Arena March 15 – London, UK – O2 Arena March 16 – London, UK – O2 Arena

Her most recent album Special peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart, becoming the highest-charting album by a female artist in 2022, while its release week also became the largest week earned among all albums released by a woman this year. No biggie.

Bringing the bops, Lizzo is hitting 16 European cities following her North American leg.

Lizzo’s 17-date European leg of the tour continues on through Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Paris, Milan and more before wrapping up with two nights at O2 Arena in London, UK on March 15 and 16.

Tickets for Lizzo’s extra O2 London date are available here from 10am today.

Lizzo's the special tour uk dates, lizzo has added another date to her 2023 uk tour.

lizzo european tour

She's been twerking at the Emmys and winning at the MTV VMAs , and on 23 Sept., Lizzo kicked off her "The Special Tour" in Florida. As the singer continues to make waves in the US, fans in the UK might have been feeling as though they'll never get a chance to see the "Juice" star in real life. Well, that's all about to change next year.

On 3 Oct., Lizzo announced the European leg of her tour, which includes two dates at London's O2 Arena to end her feel-good tour. The 34-year-old will be opening in Oslo, Norway, on 17 Feb., 2023, before hitting cities including Amsterdam, Milan, and Paris. Lizzo then arrives in the UK to take to her show on the road in Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester, Dublin, and London in March 2023.

The tour supports her latest album, "Special", so fans can expect those infectious tunes we've grown to love like " About Damn Time " and " 2 B Loved (Am I Ready) ". It's likely Sasha Flute will be getting a little time in the spotlight, too. As if seeing the Yitty owner isn't enough, the phenomenal Joy Crookes will be supporting the star for all the UK dates. And, due to popular demand (obviously) the star has added another London date. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on 11 October, so be ready.

We're all in agreement that it really is "About Damn Time" the singer lights up the UK, so set your alarms to get your hands on those tickets.

American singer, rapper, songwriter, and flutist Lizzo is a modern sensation. Her genre-blending style, dance-worthy beats, and relentlessly positive message has made her has become far more than a musician for millions of people worldwide: She is an inspiration and a leader.

Lizzo — real name Melissa Viviane Jefferson—was born in Detroit, Michigan. She relocated to Houston, Texas, at age 10, and graduated high school with eight years of classical flute training and nearly as many years of rapping under her belt. Her talent for the flute took her to the University of Houston to study classical music. At age 21, her father died, and she began earnest attempts to break into the music industry, dropping out of college and living out of her car for a year.

In 2011, Lizzo moved to the Twin Cities and formed several groups including the electro-soul band Lizzo & the Larva Ink, which became popular in the Minneapolis area. However, it was her debut hip-hop album that showcased her unique style. Called Lizzobangers, this album received immediate critical acclaim and was heralded for its “joyfully nonsensical” “stream-of-consciousness rhymes.”

In 2013, just two years after moving to Minneapolis, Lizzo toured the UK and the US opening for Har Mar Superstar and was selected for the “Picked to Click” award for Best New Artist in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis-St. Paul). Her debut album was re-released by Virgin Records, and Lizzo rounded the year off by performing with St. Paul and the Broken Bones.

Lizzo made quick work in taking over Minneapolis, but a more global audience was awaiting her. She took part in StyleLikeU’s “What’s Underneath” project in 2014, taking off articles of clothing and discussing body image. That experience partly inspired her forthcoming second album Big Grrrl Small World, and was the subject of her song “My Skin.”

Big Grrrl Small World came out December 11, 2015, and was named one of the 50 best hip-hop albums of the year by Spin magazine. Coconut Oil, Lizzo’s first major-label EP, came out October 2016. Led by the chart-topping single “Good as Hell,” this EP focused on self-love and body positivity how-to’s. It was a huge critical success, called “essential for healthy living” by Nylon. It even made Rolling Stone’s “20 Best Pop Albums of 2016” list and was her first release to reach the charts.

Lizzo rode the wave into 2017 with the Good as Hell tour, and in early 2018, she toured with Florence and the Machine and Haim. Though she was quickly becoming the face of body positivity in music, she made a point of promoting diverse body types, races, sexuality, and more. The Big Grrrls backup dancers were all plus-size.

Lizzo’s third studio album, Cuz I Love You, was preceded by the release of her single “Juice.” The album dropped on April 19, 2019, and marked a breakthrough moment in her career. She performed at Coachella and reached number four on the Billboard 200 chart. Her single “Truth Hurts” was a sleeper hit, slowly rising to #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. This made her the first Black solo female R&B singer to hit the number-one spot since 2012.

In the time since, Lizzo has live-performed flute at the BET Awards, at pride festivals in Sacramento and Indianapolis, at the Glastonbury Festival, in Somerset, UK, on Saturday Night Live, at the Australian FOMO Festival, and in other big spots around the world. She’s won three Grammys and has been nominated numerous times at the BET Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and more.

2021 saw the release of the song “Rumors,” followed by the 2022 release of “About Damn Time.” Lizzo said her fourth album, Special, was going to be “one of the most musically badass, daring, and sophisticated bodies of work I’ve done to date.” It came out on July 15, 2022, and was everything she promised it to be: diverse, genre-bending, and inspirational, just like her.

Live reviews

Lizzo's opener was her DJ Sophia Eris (whom I missed) and Empress Of, who is an alternative pop artist who I am a huge fan of and saw earlier at a smaller venue in San Diego. Her stage setup was quite minimal and it was unfortunate that the audience was still filtering in and not giving her and her band-mate (both were playing percussion and synth!) the attention that they deserved! It was super fun and I hope they at least got some new fans from opening for Lizzo. Unfortunately the sound quality was not the best- the bass was boosted so much and it drowned out the vocals for a while. I think the sound people were able to fix it halfway through. Empress Of is wonderful and everyone should see her solo show!

As expected, Lizzo was very high energy and the mix of her songs were great (Mix of Coconut Oil EP, Cuz I Love You, loosies like Boys). I love how her backup dancers were of different shapes and sizes. The songs flowed really well and she incorporated a lot of fun, interactive audience call + responses. Funniest part of the night is that she couldn't seem to remember which university the venue was at...she thought it was UCSD, and then was mouthed SDSU by the members in the front row...but misread and kept on calling it SCSU. It was pretty funny and she was self aware that she kept on goofing. Of course, the wonderful flute came out (I believe she played the theme of Anchorman and then transitioned to Juice for the encore). Obviously worth seeing, a Lizzo show will give you the seratonin boost you need.

Let me start off by saying that going into this show, I was not really a big fan of Lizzo's music. It's not to say that I didn't like it, it's just not my go to type of music. My wife, she wasn't what I would really call a big fan either. After hearing a couple songs, and getting the scoop I decided to buy the tickets. This is one of the best shows I have ever been too. You should go see her as soon as you can. My wife is now a superfan and is planning on downloading every song. While she will not be on my ipod, she will be someone who I will see any chance I can. The show had great music. Lizzo is a master at getting the crowd involved, hyped and dancing.

iguerro’s profile image

Great show! Lizzo and her all-female crew of dancers and producers put on a fantastic, high-energy show full of positivity and joy. The smallish venue (the latest incarnation of Antone's, with capacity for 700) was packed, but there was nothing but love all around. I loved how Lizzo brought up one of the fans on stage to dance with her and took requests from the crowd for what to play for the 2 encore songs. I only wish she could have performed longer and showed off more of her impressive rapid-fire rap skills from her earlier tracks. The local opening act, Magna Carda, also put on a strong show with a fierce female lead MC and a full rock band backing her up.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!

Lizzo is absolutely 100% that bitch, and I love her for it. I am often disappointed by concerts because Beyonce was actually one of the first concerts I ever attended and no one can ever even come close. So far Lizzo is the only one match the performance and heart of a Beyonce show! Lizzo is her own Beyonce and she knows it. There's a singer and then there's a performer. Lizzo clearly knows how to connect with every single one of her fans and make you feel loved. It was probably the most love filled shows I've ever attended. I cannot wait to see her again!!!!

That. Was. A. Show.

Lizzo offered herself as the next Prime Minister, but on reflection thought she wanted to be POTUS.

That's a brilliant idea.

Sexy, sweet and silly, funny, funky, intelligent and cool in equal measure, with the noisiest audience I can remember - ever - screaming, chanting and singing along. "The Big Girls" were relentless too; non-stop, action-packed, sexy and fearless.

The parts that could have been cheesy were charming, affecting and life-affirming because, for all the flippancy, she means it. She's real.

We loved it.

Lizzo is fantastic and amazing. A very energetic performer who is funny and entertaining, and Hella talented.

However the Palladium in Köln...Is a HORRIBLE venue. Don't even bother buying tickets to shows there, the sound is horrible and if you're average height, you'll probably end up staring at the back of some head and assuming the performer is actually on stage. For the glimpses I caught of Lizzo... She was as I stated above.

The show was pretty amazing! The opener, Brooke Candy, was 30 minutes late and only performed for 20 minutes. Her performance, even though short, was awesome! Lizzo was also late, about 20 minutes, but she performed the full hour. She had great back-up dancers, a cool "dj", and the whole concert was a celebration of self love. You leave feeling good about yourself and the world. Would definitely see her again if I got the chance!

Lizzo was amazing!! Her show was full of energy, was original and her vocals were unbelievable!

Lizzo has great communication and audience participation throughout her shows, she spoke about her experiences in Australia and seg water into her next song with ease! She was truely amazing! Her singing, dancing and stage presence was that of a super star! Move over Queen B, there’s a new queen in town!

Lizzo was unreal! Vocals, lighting, staging were all amazing! The venue however, was severely overcrowded which totally ruined the evening. Even towards the back of the room there was no space at all and as a group of 4 we were continually being pushed and shoved by surrounding people. I was really disappointed by the event because of this reason!

Lizzo Announced UK & European Dates For The Special Tour

Rapper Latto will join her on the U.S. trek kicking off in September.

Lizzo is hitting the road. The “About Damn Time” singer has announced The Special Tour , a new North American headlining tour in support of her forthcoming fourth studio album, Special , out July 15 .

By the time the tour kicks off in late September, Special will have already been out for a few months, meaning you’ll have plenty of time to memorize all of the record’s groovy, summer-ready tracks for what’s sure to be an exciting fall reprise. The star’s headlining trip across the U.S. and Canada starts September 23 in Sunrise, FL, before it takes her down the east coast, to the midwest, and finally to the west coast, ending at Los Angeles’s Kia Forum on November 18.

Latto, the Atlanta-based rapper behind one of the season’s biggest hits, “Big Energy,” will support Lizzo on the stretch of dates.

This will be Lizzo’s first tour since the star wrapped up her Cuz I Love You Too Tour in 2019, which saw her play auditoriums and theaters across the U.S. and Europe. One big change this go-around: Lizzo will be filling out arenas, including New York City’s Madison Square Garden and Washington, DC’s Capital One Arena. It’s a stark reminder of just how much of a household name the singer has become in recent years as she comes off her recent stint as host and performer for SNL , and debuts her new competition reality show, Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.

Lizzo Announces ‘The Special 2our,’ A Second North American Leg With Latto Staying On As The Opener

Megan Armstrong

Lizzo was scheduled to wrap the North American leg of her Special Tour on Saturday, November 19, at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum, but she’s having too much fun to stop. The support of Special , her highly anticipated and successful July album, will continue well into next year. Lizzo had already announced 2023 European and UK tour dates for February and March, but today (November 14), she added another 17-date North American leg called The Special 2our .

“SPECIAL 2OUR AINT OVER AND WE HIT THE JACKPOT CUS @latto IS COMING W US!!” Lizzo tweeted, confirming that former Uproxx cover star Latto will stay on as her opener.

The general sale begins Friday (November 18) at 10 a.m. local time on Lizzo’s official website .

The Special 2our will have a lot to live up to, as Lizzo has enjoyed a stellar 2022. She played James Madison’s 200-year-old crystal flute while twerking at her Washington, DC stop and cried in her hometown Detroit . Latto welcomed Stacey Abrams on stage to make a pro-choice statement in Atlanta last month. Away from the tour, Lizzo added an Emmy to her awards cabinet and pulled double duty on Saturday Night Live . If that weren’t enough, she’s releasing her Love, Lizzo documentary to HBO Max on November 24.

See all of her Special 2our dates below.
