Disney Cruise Disembarkation Time and Options

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

There’s no doubt that disembarkation day is often the most dreaded time of a Disney Cruise Line vacation. For those first-time cruisers wondering what the term disembarkation day means, this is the last day of your cruise when you debark the ship for the final time.

Not only is debarkation day a huge bummer since it marks the end of your magical journey, but it’s also a super hectic time. Crew members and Disney Cruise Line guests often begin planning for disembarkation the evening before the cruise’s final day, and you can easily feel overwhelmed with the checklist of things to do. From organizing gratuity envelopes to packing to dining, the debarkation process can really put a damper on your relaxing vacation.

Luckily, Disney Cruise Line provides organized procedures to help disembarkation run super smoothly for its guests. If you are looking for tips on managing gratuities, luggage, and the debarkation breakfast, this post will walk you through the whole process of how to disembark your cruise on time and with as little stress as possible!

Disembarkation Process

As mentioned in the introduction, Disney Cruise Line really does a great job of preparing guests for disembarkation. On the last evening of your cruise, Disney Cruise Line will provide specific instructions about each step of the debarkation process. Disney Cruise Line guests will find a letter (similar to the one below) in their staterooms the last night of the cruise.

Disney Cruise Line Debarkation Letter with breakfast and disembarking instructions

This debarkation letter details exactly what you need to know about the disembarkation procedures. The letter pictured above is from my family’s disembarkation in Miami, but the process works similarly in Port Canaveral and in other cruise ports. The letter itself is really informative, but I will break it down into more detail below.

It’s also important to note that your stateroom host, dining servers, and cast members at guest services can often answer any questions you may have once onboard the ship. When determining your Disney cruise disembarkation time, you have a couple different options depending on your travel schedule and preferences.

And, no matter which option you choose, Disney Cruise Line provides specific instructions regarding your luggage. Before we discuss each of your debarkation options in depth, let’s take this step-by-step and talk about the time you need to vacate your stateroom on disembarkation day.

What time do guests need to be out of their rooms?

Since the stateroom attendant needs to clean the cabins for the next guests, Disney Cruise Line asks that your family is out of the room by 8:00 am. Depending on which breakfast option you choose, you may want to vacate your room prior to this.

Debarkation Day Breakfast

If you want to eat a full breakfast on debarkation morning, your options are pretty limited. Most families choose to eat in the main dining room during their assigned breakfast time, although the ship’s buffet is typically open as well. It’s important to note that room service is not available on debarkation morning.

Main Dining Rooms

You can choose to eat your debarkation day breakfast in the main dining room where you will be served by your serving team one last time. The debarkation letter will specify what time you need to show up for breakfast. Basically, if you had the main dining time during your cruise, you would attend the early breakfast (typically at 6:45 am or 7:00 am) on disembarkation day.

Guests assigned to the early breakfast time may choose to leave their luggage in the stateroom while dining. Just make sure you are back to the cabin by 8:00 am to collect your things.

Rapunzel’s Royal Table show on Disney Magic

If you had the second seating dining time for dinner, you would attend the second breakfast time (typically 8:00 am or 8:15 am) the next morning. Also, note that you will enjoy breakfast in the same dining room you were in the night before for dinner.

For example, my family and I ate dinner at Lumiere’s on our final night of our recent cruise. So, we were scheduled to eat breakfast at Lumiere’s on debarkation day. Since you need to be out of your stateroom by 8:00 am, guests with the later breakfast time will have to take their carry-on bags and/or luggage with them to breakfast. You will not be able to go back to your room to get your personal items.

Buffet Breakfast

Rather than attending a formal breakfast in the main dining room, my family and I actually prefer to eat at the buffet for breakfast on debarkation day. Disney Cruise Line doesn’t really advertise this as an option, but Cabanas has a breakfast buffet available on this final morning as does Marceline Market on the Disney Wish. We usually give our serving team their gratuity envelopes the night before at dinner. This allows us to say our goodbyes and let the servers know that we won’t be there in the morning for breakfast.

Disney Magic Twist n Spout Slide

On our most recent cruise, we headed up to Cabanas at around 7:30 am for a quick meal before disembarking the Disney Cruise Line ship. Guests choosing to eat breakfast at Cabanas or Marceline Market will need to either bring their carry-on bags and/or luggage with them to the buffet or gather it from their stateroom no later than 8:00 am.

Disney Cruise Disembarkation Time

As per the Disney Cruise Line debarkation procedures, guests must disembark the ship and make their way through U.S. Customs by 9:00 am . You have several options for disembarking the ship, which we will discuss in detail below.

Express Walk Off

Express Walk Off is the disembarkation option that allows you keep ALL of your bags with you. When it is time to disembark, you carry/roll your luggage off the ship. If you choose to take part in Express Walk Off, Disney Cruise Line will give you a place to meet onboard the ship on debarkation morning. Once the ship has been cleared by U.S. Customs, you will be permitted to walk off the ship with your bags.

Disney Cruise Planner

This option is great for those guests who need to be off the ship to catch an early flight in the morning. (Although, make sure your flight isn’t TOO early as you want to allow plenty of time for your family to debark and travel to the airport.)

It’s also important to note that you can choose to keep your bags with you and NOT get off the ship immediately. However, you still need to be out of your stateroom by 8:00 AM. So, you may have to drag all of your bags to breakfast with you depending on your scheduled breakfast time.

Debarking with Luggage Tags

If you would rather not have to juggle your luggage on debarkation day, you can choose to have Disney Cruise Line pick it up the night before. Personally, my family does not like messing with large suitcases plus two little kids on disembarkation day. So, we pack up all of our large suitcases the night before debarkation and set them in the hallway.

This is a super simple process. On the final night of your cruise, you will see luggage tags in your room with the debarkation letter. If you choose to have Disney Cruise Line handle your luggage, you just attach the luggage tags to your bags BEFORE placing them in the hallway. (Just remember the Disney characters on your luggage tags because it is important the next day.)

tip jar with text overlay Guide to Disney Cruise Gratuities

The debarkation letter pictured at the top of this post states that bags need to be in the hallway between 8:30 pm and 10:15 pm on your last night. This is so your luggage is packed and ready to go when the stateroom hosts start collecting bags during this time slot.

If you choose this method, it’s a good idea to keep a carry-on bag with items you will need on the last night of your cruise AND on debarkation morning. We usually keep our carry-on bag with us and the following items inside:

  • debarkation outfit and shoes
  • hairbrush and accessories
  • toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • medications
  • passports and travel documents
  • cell phones and chargers
  • Key to the World Card

You will not see your luggage until you debark the ship on the final day, so the list above is really important. You don’t want to be walking off the ship in pajamas and slippers because you forgot to set out a change of clothes.

Disney Cruise Line guests who choose to utilize luggage tags do not have to worry about dragging their suitcases with them to breakfast in the morning. Once you are ready to debark the ship, you wait for the announcement of the Disney character pictured on your luggage tags. Once your character is called, you may disembark the ship and find your luggage in the cruise terminal.

How long does it take to disembark?

As mentioned above, once you disembark the cruise ship and enter the cruise terminal, you will see tons of luggage sorted into sections by character. Disney Cruise Line has made it super easy to find your luggage. Guests just need to look for the Disney character that was pictured on their luggage tags.

Once you narrow down the section your bags are located in, it’s really easy to find your suitcases. After you collect all your bags, you walk to the U.S. Customs and Immigration line to officially get cleared to enter back into the country. This is very similar to the experience of U.S. Customs at the airport, and it shouldn’t take very long for your family to be cleared.

You will see lots of employees in the terminal to guide you on where to go to clear customs, so it’s not confusing at all. The entire process of walking off the ship, collecting our bags, going through the Customs line, and boarding our transportation typically takes us around 30 minutes.

After Your Cruise

After you are cleared by Customs, you will head out to the parking lot and transportation area. Again, plenty of employees will be on hand directing cruisers to the different modes of transportation available. If you are utilizing the Disney Cruise Line Transportation , cast members will show you exactly where to go.

Disney Cruise Ground Transportation

The DCL transfer buses will transport guests to the local airport, the Disney Cruise Line partner hotel, or to Walt Disney World if you are sailing out of Port Canaveral. You just join the clearly marked line for your destination. The bus driver will load your larger luggage pieces onto the bottom of the bus. You can take your carry-on bag on the shuttle with you to hold in your lap. If you are not booked on the Disney transportation, you will find ride share options and taxis readily available as well.

Many families book a pre-cruise or post-cruise hotel through Disney Cruise Line in order to have some flexibility with flights. To do this, you call Disney Cruise Line prior to your trip, and they will give you hotel options for your departure port. (Note that if you booked your cruise vacation through a travel agent, you need to ask your agent to call Disney Cruise Line on your behalf.)

Four Seasons Pool

Depending on availability, Disney Cruise Line should give you a few different options on hotels to book. If you are flying in and out of the Orlando International Airport, we highly recommend the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport. It’s located right inside the airport, which makes it super convenient for travelers. My family and I also love the Hyatt Regency because it offers clean rooms, several restaurants, and a swimming pool. Families can even book a day room at the hotel if you need to kill time before your flight!

In Miami , Disney Cruise Line often utilizes EB Hotel and another option for pre-cruise and post-cruise options. My family and I had the pleasure of staying at the Four Seasons Miami before our most recent Disney Cruise vacation, and it was pure luxury! We were even able to score a great deal on our room through Disney Cruise Line.

Final Thoughts on How to Disembark

The Disney Cruise Line debarkation process may seem to have a lot of moving parts with lots of decisions to make. However, the cast members are super helpful, and the process is well organized. So, the entire morning actually runs quite smoothly.

From managing luggage to eating breakfast to clearing customs, Disney Cruise Line will guide you through each step of the way as you disembark the ship. Our final tip for disembarkation day is to NOT wait until the last minute to pack up your stateroom. It’s never fun to accept that your Disney Cruise Line vacation is coming to end, but you will feel much better knowing your belongings are packed and ready.

In conclusion, although debarkation morning isn’t the most exciting day of your trip, Disney Cruise Line truly does a great job of organizing the whole process. Their procedures for the disembarkation process help this bittersweet morning run smoothly. And then it’s back to reality!

So, what do you think? Do you enjoy the efficiency of Express Walk Off or do you prefer to stay on board as long as possible? What time do you like to disembark a Disney cruise? Comment below to share why you choose this method!

Disney Cruise Embarkation and Disembarkation Tips For Port Canaveral

When I was preparing for our first Disney Cruise I was most nervous about the Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation procedures. I had never done a cruise before, and the information I found was extremely confusing. Now I realize that the Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation procedures are overall very easy, but minor mistakes can turn into big problems. Find out what the Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation process is like at Port Canaveral and our tips for making your Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation days easy.

Disney Cruise Embarkation Day

The day has finally come for you to set sail on your Disney cruise. Before walking onto your Disney Cruise Line ship at Port Canaveral you must complete several steps.

Check Your Luggage

You cannot carry all of your luggage on board with you on embarkation day. Staterooms, which are your home for the duration of the cruise, are not usually ready until late in the afternoon. If you used Disney Cruise Line transportation, and left your bags properly tagged outside of your Disney World resort room, these bags will magically show up outside your stateroom door.

If you have driven yourself, or taken a car service like Tiffany Towncar, you will need to check your properly tagged luggage. A porter at the port will collect your luggage before you head to the security line.

Please note the porters do not work for Disney Cruise Line, and tipping is customary when you hand off your bags.

Pro tip: Check pricing for private car service to Port Canaveral. Many times using a company like Tiffany Towncar will cost the same as using Disney Cruise Line transportation, but the Tiffany Towncar service is more convenient and pleasant than taking the coach buses.

Regardless of how you get to the port it is very important that you have all essential items for the day with you. All checked luggage is inaccessible for several hours.

Passports, driver’s licenses, birth certificates, medications, valuables, and other essential items should be packed in your embarkation day bag.

Check this article for Disney Cruise vacation packing tips and what to pack in your embarkation day bag.

Get Pre-Boarding COVID Test

Starting in June 2022 Disney Cruise Line updated their pre-cruise COVID testing requirements . In the US and Canada, vaccinated guests must still take a pre-cruise COVID test, but the specific rules have changed.

Instead of mandating testing be done immediately prior to boarding, Disney now accepts negative results of certain tests taken no more than 2 days before embarkation. These negative results must be uploaded to Safe Passage before midnight the day before embarkation.

All testing for vaccinated guests is now at the guest’s expense. For kids under 5 years old they must still pretest 3 days before the cruise at your expense and once again at the port at no charge.

Port test results can take up to 60 minutes. Plan ahead and make sure to pack snacks, drinks, and entertainment to help pass the time while waiting. For the most up to date information consult the Disney Cruise Line website .

Go Through Security Screening

At Port Canaveral there is U.S. airport style screening to enter the port. All bags go through a screening machine. Every person entering the port also passes through a metal detector. This process generally moves quickly with our usual wait time under 15 minutes.

Check-in For Your Cruise

After security it is time to get in line for Disney Cruise Line check-in. Most of your check-in process is completed online in advance of your trip. Having most forms completed online makes the embarkation day process move quickly.

While you wait, staff will provide you a health questionnaire. Complete this questionnaire prior to reaching the check-in desk. Sometimes pens are scarce so it is helpful to have your own.

Once you reach the check-in desk a cast member will pull up your reservation information. They will then ask to see your driver’s license, passport or other items that can be used in lieu of a passport. Find out more about documentation requirements for Disney Cruise Line here .

The cast member will review your travel health questionnaire and then take a photo of each member of the group to associate with your on-board account. After this check-in is complete, the cast member will give you a Key To The World Card and boarding group number.

It is very important to keep track of your Key To The World card. Your Key To The World Card is needed for almost everything on your Disney Cruise Line vacation.

Wait For Your Boarding Group

Learn about the Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation process and our tips for making your Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation days easy. #disneycruise #disneyvacation #disneycruiseline #disneycruisetips

The boarding process is more streamlined now with guests arriving at pre-selected arrival times. This means you should be able to board the ship quickly after screening unlike before when you may have a long wait in the terminal before boarding.

Once your boarding group number is called you enter the gangway to board the Disney Cruise Line ship. Photographers with a background screen of a Disney Cruise ship will take your photo on the way through the gangway.

Please note this character experience may be modified or absent right now. If you have a little time until your boarding group is called you can start the fun by meeting Disney characters in the port lobby. Find out more about meeting Disney characters on a cruise here.

Board Your Disney Cruise Ship

As you approach the doors of the Disney Cruise Line ship a cast member will ask your family name. When it is your turn to enter the ship a cast member introduces you and the staff applaud as you finally enter the cruise ship.

You have now completed your Disney Cruise embarkation, but there is more to do on this first day. Grab something to eat, explore the ship, or go for a swim while you wait for your room to be ready.

Before leaving dock there is a mandatory safety drill everyone must attend. After that it is time for the Sail Away Party and for your vacation fun to begin.

Disney Cruise Disembarkation Day

The process for Disney Cruise disembarkation begins the night before you depart and continues into the morning of disembarkation.

Place Luggage Outside Your Stateroom The Night Before

Learn about the Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation process and our tips for making your Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation days easy. #disneycruise #disneyvacation #disneycruiseline #disneycruisetips

On the evening of your last night on a Disney Cruise your stateroom attendant will place luggage tags and a special paper detailing the Disney Cruise disembarkation process on your bed.

Disney Cruise disembarkation day can be very chaotic. Embarkation is scattered over a longer time whereas disembarking happens around the same time for everyone. Elevators are crowded, and it can be difficult to carry heavy luggage down many flights of steps.

To avoid the challenge of lugging large suitcases on your Disney Cruise disembarkation day you can choose to use special tags and place bags outside of your stateroom the night before disembarking. Your stateroom attendant will load the luggage, and porters will have it ready to pick up outside the ship.

It is important that you keep everything you need for your last night and the next morning with you. The luggage you leave outside the stateroom will be unavailable until after you disembark the Disney cruise ship.

We usually pack everything except pajamas, clothes and shoes for the next day, medications, toiletries, jewelry, passports or other important documents. Then on Disney Cruise disembarkation day we pack all of our remaining items in a carry-on suitcase and our personal items like a backpack or purse.

Disembarkation Day Breakfast

Learn about the Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation process and our tips for making your Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation days easy. #disneycruise #disneyvacation #disneycruiseline #disneycruisetips

The Disney Cruise Line disembarkation day starts early. If you had first seating for dinner your scheduled breakfast time is 6:45 am. If you are the second dinner seating then breakfast is usually at 8:00 am.

Both of these times can be rather early. This is especially true when you consider everyone needs to be up, dressed, and fully packed prior to going to breakfast. We have done a sit-down disembarkation day breakfast and also done continental style breakfast in our room for disembarkation day.

Eating something quick in the room and then disembarking the ship while others are at breakfast is much easier. Room service is not available on Disney cruise disembarkation day, so plan ahead. Order complimentary room service the day before your Disney Cruise disembarkation day. We’ve found the best breakfast supplies are fruit, cereal, and milk.

Exiting The Ship

Learn about the Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation process and our tips for making your Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation days easy. #disneycruise #disneyvacation #disneycruiseline #disneycruisetips

If you have a quick breakfast in your stateroom prior to disembarking your Disney cruise, exiting the ship is likely to be easier. You can time your exit to occur while others are at breakfast. Right after each breakfast group finishes is the worst time to try and exit the ship.

One time when we went to the disembarkation breakfast we had to wait over 20 minutes in line just to exit the ship’s lobby onto the gangway. The line on the gangway took even longer.

Each passenger is scanned out with their Key To The World Card when disembarking a Disney cruise. Many people leave their Key To The World Card in their stateroom and then have difficulty disembarking. Keep your Key To The World Card with you at all times even on Disney cruise disembarkation day.

Pick Up Luggage

Any luggage that you tagged and placed outside of your stateroom the night before will be in a large area waiting to be claimed. Each section of staterooms is assigned a color and character luggage tag. This helps you to find the section where your luggage is stored. There are lots of bags, so don’t be surprised if it takes a couple of minutes to find all of your luggage.

US Customs and Border Protection

After you have collected all of your luggage, you will enter the line for US Customs and Border Protection. An agent will call you forward and ask to see your passport or other accepted documentation. They will confirm your identity and may ask some general questions before allowing you re-entry in the port.

Final Thoughts On Disney Cruise Embarkation and Disembarkation Procedures

Disney Cruise embarkation and disembarkation procedures are easy once you know what to expect. The most important thing on embarkation day is to arrive with a smartly packed embarkation day bag and all required documents for your trip.

Disney cruise disembarkation day can feel hectic if you don’t plan ahead. Leaving non-essential luggage outside of your stateroom the night before and eating a continental breakfast in your room the morning of disembarking alleviates much of the stress.

Remember to bring your Key To The World Card with you when exiting the ship to avoid delays. The Disney Cruise disembarkation process can take a while, so always check with Disney Cruise Line for recommendations before booking flights.

What to Expect on a Disney Cruise Line Debarkation Day

New cruisers are often aware that they should get prepared for sailing on a Disney cruise ( embarking ), but there is almost as much prep needed to get off a cruise (called disembarking or debarking). Here’s what you need to know.

Tasks to Complete Prior to Debarking

The Disney Cruise Line debarkation process actually starts a day or two before you leave the ship. Here are some things you should consider the day before (or sometimes two days before) your sailing ends.

Read Your Debarkation Instructions The Disney Cruise Line Navigator app includes a section on debarkation. Take a few moments to scan this information a day or two before your cruise ends. Even if you’ve sailed with DCL before, a quick refresher should be on your to-do list – instructions do change periodically. Your stateroom host may also leave supplemental information in your stateroom. Be sure to read this as well.

Check Your Cruise Folio You can view your cruise folio (your bill for onboard charges) on the Navigator app, on your stateroom television, or you may ask for a printout at the Guest Services desk. You should periodically review the folio during your trip so that you may rectify any erroneous charges while you’re on the ship. Lines can be long on the last day of your sailing, so the sooner you can do this, the better.

Buy Your Photo Package If you haven’t already done so, take a minute at the onboard photo kiosks to review your pictures taken during the sailing so you can decide whether to purchase a photo package or individual shots. Once your sailing is over, it’s too late. See our post on Disney Cruise Line photos for more details.

Tip Your Service Crew Disney Cruise Line will automatically charge your account a basic gratuity fee for your stateroom host, dining room servers, assistant server, and head waiter. If you want to add an additional tip, you can do this at Guest Services at any point prior to debarkation, or you’re welcome to give them cash or a gift card before you leave. See our FAQ on DCL tipping for more information.

Check Lost and Found If you’ve mislaid anything during your sailing, stop by Guest Services to inquire about lost & found items. After your cruise, you need to complete an online form via Chargerback .

Return Your Kids’ Club Band The Oceaneer Club/Lab will issue wristbands to young children as means of keeping track of them while they’re in the kids’ clubs. Return this band prior to 11:59 p.m. on the last full day of your cruise or you will be assessed a $12.95 fee per band. (Note: This is not the same as the new DisneyBand+ product.)

Check in for Your Flight If you’re flying home from your disembarkation port, remember to check in for your flight.

Confirm Land Transportation If you’re renting a car at the port, using a limo service, or taking Disney’s bus transportation to the airport or a Disney hotel, confirm your reservations and make sure you understand how your land transportation works. Pro tip: Your Key to the World Card (room key) will have a code on it if you’re using Disney transportation.

Sign Up for a DCL Placeholder If you’re planning to take another Disney Cruise within the next two years, you can save yourself some money on the future cruise by reserving a placeholder before you leave the ship. See the Navigator app onboard for details.

Complete Your Disembarkation Questionnaire DCL asks every party to complete a questionnaire prior to disembarking. See our Questionnaire FAQ for more details.

Check Your Safe Make it a habit to check your room’s safe as you leave on the last day. You don’t want to leave valuables on the ship.

Pack Take a few minutes during the morning of your last full day to do a little pre-packing. Toss any paperwork you won’t be needing later, gather your dirty clothes and put them in your suitcase, pack any shoes you won’t be wearing for the rest of the trip, and corral loose items like children’s toys or wayward hair ties. The last night of your sailing can be hectic with saying goodbye to new friends, watching the last night’s mainstage show, and so on. Putting your luggage out in the evening (see below) will be much less frantic if you’ve done some prep work earlier in the day.

Don’t Take Items from the Ship There are several items in your stateroom that may be enticing to take home with you: the decorative pillow, the cozy throw blanket, and the fabric laundry bag are commonly coveted items. As lovely as they may be, don’t bring them home with you – you will be charged a hefty fee.

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

Feeding Yourself on Debarkation Day

Even though you’re leaving the ship, you’re still entitled to breakfast onboard. These are your options:

Eat in a Dining Room You’ll be assigned to the same dining room you had dinner in on the last night of your cruise. If you’ve had the early dinner seating, you’ll have the earlier breakfast seating (typically 6:45 a.m.). If you’ve had the later dinner seating, you’ll have the later breakfast seating (typically 8:00 a.m.). The menu is abbreviated, but there are hot and cold meals available. If you’re an early riser, aren’t in a rush to get off the ship, like to have a larger morning meal, or want to say one last goodbye to your serving team, then go ahead an have your assigned breakfast.

Eat at the Buffet The pool deck buffet restaurants (Marceline Market on the Wish, Cabanas on all other ships) will be open for breakfast on debarkation morning, typically beginning at about 6:30 a.m. The offerings will be smaller than on other days, but you will have a choice of basic eggs and bacon, pastries, fruit, cereal, and oatmeal. This is a good option if you’re assigned the early seating and want to sleep for a few minutes more or if you just want to grab something quickly.

Just Grab a Coffee Cove Cafe and one or more of the other onboard coffee bars will be open on disembarkation morning. They won’t have much food, if any, but if you just want a coffee to tide you over for a bit, this can be a good option.

Eat Room Service Breakfast This is a bit of trick advice. Actual room service breakfast is only available to Concierge Level guests on disembarkation morning. However, room service is open to all guests until midnight of your last full day. Some guests opt to order Continental breakfast items to be delivered in the evening – that way your food will be right there when you wake up. Make use of the refrigerator in your room for things like milk or butter. And know that many guests find that the coffee in the room service carafe is still hot many hours after delivery.

Whichever option you choose, remember that you are not allowed to bring fruit off the ship with you. (It’s a Customs rule, not a DCL rule.) You can, however, bring packaged items like a small box of cereal with you off the ship.

Also note that you should bring any hand luggage with you to your breakfast destination. You want to clear everything out of your stateroom as early as possible as a courtesy to your stateroom host who has limited time to turn your room over for the next sailing.

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

Dealing with Your Luggage

There are two ways to deal with your luggage upon disembarkation: Standard Departure or Express Walk Off. During the last evening of your cruise, all guests will routinely be given a set of disembarkation luggage tags depicting a Disney character on a colorful background. If you’re doing Express Walk Off (see below), you can just throw these away or leave them in your stateroom for your host to repurpose. If you’re doing Standard Departure, you should make note of which character and color tag you’ve been given. It never hurts to take a photo or two as a reminder.

Standard Departure

With Standard Departure, you will complete the name/address information on the luggage tag and affix the tags to any luggage that you don’t want to carry off the ship yourself. Be aware that the ship’s elevators and walkways will be CROWDED on debarkation morning. Multiple bags or anything more substantial than a small roll-aboard bag will be unwieldy. Follow the instructions given by your stateroom host and place your tagged luggage in the hall outside your stateroom in the evening (typically from about 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., but always double check the specifics of your sailing).

BE SURE NOT TO PACK ITEMS YOU WILL NEED IN THE MORNING. Keep aside in hand luggage items like your Key To The World Card, electronics, passport and other identification documents, medications, and – this part is important – clothing you plan to wear off the ship in the morning.

On debarkation morning, guests will be called to depart the ship in groups based on their luggage tag character/color. Your group will be assigned based on your departure needs. For example, guests with earlier flights will be allowed off the ship earlier than guests with later flights home. When you group is called, you’ll collect your bags in the terminal, just before you head to customs (see below). Bags are sorted into areas marked by character/color.

Express Walk Off

Express Walk Off is for guests who want to debark the ship as soon as it is cleared by port authorities, typically around 7:30 a.m. at U.S. ports. You may not use Express Walk Off if you’ve tagged your luggage for transportation into the terminal.

To take advantage of this feature, get to the lobby atrium at your sailing’s earliest debarkation time (this will be noted on the Navigator app) with all your belongings in your possession. Have your Key to the World Card and passport (or other ID) in hand and you’ll proceed directly to Customs and back out into the real world.

If you have an early flight home (say, prior to noon for sailings arriving at Port Canaveral with flights from Orlando), you should plan to use Express Walk Off.

Dealing with Transportation

After you disembark, you’ll obviously need to leave the port terminal. If you’ve driven to the port and parked in a nearby garage, just retrieve your car and be on your way.

Other options include an arranged town car or limo, using Disney’s bus transportation to an airport or hotel, renting a car at the terminal, or calling a cab or ride share. You should arrange the first three of these options prior to embarkation and confirm any details with the service. For example, ask the limo service exactly where at the terminal the driver will meet you.

Ubers and cabs can be a great option if you’re arriving at a port in a major metropolitan area (New York or Vancouver), but they may be scarce or expensive at remote ports like Port Canaveral.

Whichever transportation method you select, be aware that all guests must vacate the ship by about 9:30 a.m.

Clearing Customs

The last step in disembarkation is clearing Customs. The procedure is slightly different depending on your debarkation port and your nationality in regard to that port. In all cases, you’ll need to have all your luggage with you, as well as your passport (or other identification paperwork) before proceeding to Customs. If you’ve made significant purchases while traveling, you’ll need to complete a Traveler Entry Form , but this is no longer required of all guests.

How disembarkation works on Disney Cruise Line

How disembarkation works on Disney Cruise Line

The process of leaving a Disney cruise actually starts the day before with several things to do prior to exiting the ship.

Here’s what to expect for disembarkation.

In this article

Things to do the day before disembarkation

On this last day, there are a few things you’ll need to do as you wrap up your time on the ship.

If you plan to purchase any of the photos taken by the ship’s photographers, you’ll need to head to Shutters Photography Shop to choose those. They will not be available once you’re off the ship.

Your stateroom attendant will leave envelopes in the room for you to put cash inside as tips for your stateroom attendant, server, assistant server, and head server. Be sure to give the envelopes to your servers at your last dinner.

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

If you prepaid for tips, you can also tear off the perforated strips on the sheet and put them in the envelopes to give to the servers.

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

Fill out the survey

A survey will be given to you to fill out about your whole cruise experience. This survey is very important to the crew members and many will be very assertive about asking you to complete it.

Be sure to take some time to fill it out and drop it off as you’re leaving the ship. Drop-off locations include Guest Services, breakfast dining locations, and the desk as you exit the ship.

Do some final shopping

Want some things in the shops? Be sure to snag those items while you’re still at sea as the shops will be closed as you pull into your port.

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

Settle any charge discrepancies at Guest Services

Check your folio for charges. If there are any issues, head to the Guest Services desk to settle those.

Book a future cruise placeholder

One of the most popular ways to save on a future cruise is to book a placeholder on your current cruise (same idea as a bounceback offer for Walt Disney World ). This is only available on the cruise so you’ll need to book it in the DCL app if you’re interested.

Booking this placeholder will save you 10% on a future cruise and give you a reduced deposit on cruises of 7+ nights. You can choose your exact cruise later, but it must be within 24 months. Get more details .

Put your luggage out by 10 p.m.

If you want your bags transported off the ship by the crew, you’ll need to have your luggage set out in the hallway between 8 and 10 p.m. with the tags attached (your tags will be left in your room by your stateroom attendant).

The character on your tags is also the group you’ll listen for when they call groups to disembark.

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

If you want to take your own luggage off the ship (called “Express Walk-Off”), you can skip this step. Definitely recommend Express Walk-Off for anybody who wants to exit the ship ASAP.

Watch the farewell show

There’s usually a farewell “Til We Meet Again” show at 10:15 p.m. (check your DCL app for exact times) that includes the ship’s characters in the atrium on the last night. After they parade through, they’ll often spread out and be available to meet and take pics with in various spots in the atrium area.

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

Order room service breakfast by midnight

If you want breakfast the next morning but don’t want to head to a restaurant, order it the night before by midnight so you can have it on hand in the morning. Coffee will stay hot in the carafe, and cold items can be kept in the refrigerator overnight.

Note: you can’t use the door hanger to order breakfast this night. You’ll need to dial 0 to place your order.

Things to do on disembarkation day

The morning that the ship pulls in and everybody is ready to leave the ship can be a little hectic. Here are some things to do.

Pick up alcohol being held by the ship

If you purchased any liquor at a port during your cruise, it’ll be held by the ship until this day. Be sure to allow time to pick it up this morning.

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

Eat breakfast

For breakfast before leaving the ship, you’ll have these options:

  • Casual Buffet – often fewer options than other days of the cruise, but a limited selection will be available
  • Eat in a dining room – you’ll be assigned a dining room where you can have a sit-down breakfast if you’d like
  • Room service – ends at midnight the night before, so you can order the night before as mentioned above
  • Cove Cafe – fancy drinks will cost extra, but the pastries are included

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

Keep in mind that you will usually have to be out of your stateroom by 8 a.m. so you’ll need to carry any belongings with you if you’re eating at 8 a.m. or later.

Leave the ship

You’ll walk off the ship with any luggage that you have with you.

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

If you are doing Express Walk-Off, you can exit the ship as soon as the ship is cleared.

If you’re not doing Express Walk-Off, you can exit the ship when your group is called.

You’ll need your Key to the World card with you as you exit.

Pick up luggage in cruise terminal

If you tagged your bags and left them out the night before, you’ll need to find them in the cruise terminal. They will be grouped together by the character on your luggage tag.

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

Clear customs

In the cruise terminal, you’ll need to have your luggage and passport available to clear customs.

Get the checklist

Save the checklist below to your phone to help remember during your cruise.

The buffet usually opens around 6.30 am with a selection of continental breakfast items.

At 7 am the full selection is available with such items as eggs, sausage, bacon, Mickey Waffles, yogurt, fruit, pancakes, cereal, oatmeal, croissants, and pastries.

There is also an omelet station for freshly cooked omelets and eggs.

Sit Down Breakfast Menu

Many guests don’t even realize that one of the rotational dining restaurants will be open for breakfast on each Disney cruise ship.

Room Service Breakfast Menu

There is a special breakfast room service menu (although this is not available on the morning you disembark).

You will find a card to fill out in your stateroom. If it isn’t on the desk then sometimes you will find it in the desk drawer.

disneycruiseroomservice

If you can’t find one at all then ask your stateroom host and they will get some for you.

You fill in the card and hang it outside your door before 3 am.

The selection is limited to cold items, but it is always a nice luxury to have breakfast delivered to your room.

If you just want coffee in the morning, but don’t want to be disturbed by room service, think about ordering a pot of coffee the night before. It will stay hot until the morning.

If you want a specialty coffee in the morning then head on over to Cove Cafe. All of the ships have a Cove Cafe, which is exclusively for those aged 18 and over.

disneycruisecovecafe

The coffee, tea, and other beverages are available for an extra charge. But there are free pastries available as well on all the ships, except Disney Wish.

Cove Cafe is a quieter option for breakfast. It doesn’t offer much choice of things to eat but is certainly the place to go if you need a decent coffee in the morning.

Breakfast on Disembarkation Day

You have a choice of either a sit-down breakfast at a set time, the buffet, or Cove Cafe for your disembarkation day breakfast.

Most people choose the sit-down breakfast in their allocated rotational dining restaurant. There are two timed seatings for breakfast on the final day.

Which one you go to will depend upon whether you have early or late seating.

What many people don’t realize is that one advantage of late seating is that you will get a later breakfast time on your final day. The times are usually 7.00 am and 8.15 am.

Where this is located will depend upon where you dined on the last night of your cruise.

Here you can see below the notice for a Disney Magic cruise where the breakfast is served and the times. It is all related to where and what time you dined on your last evening.

On the Move (Lighter fare) Lightly grilled vegetables, guacamole, tomato salsa encased in a whole wheat tortilla

Lox and Bagel a traditional favorite served with cream cheese

The buffet is also open on disembarkation day. This is the option that I prefer.

I don’t particularly enjoy the final breakfast menu and often the process feels rushed – it has to be as your Servers are working very hard to get your food to you quickly as they are on a very tight time scale. I tend to prefer the more relaxed pace of the buffet.

You can also go to Cove Cafe and get your coffee and a pastry. This is another relaxed way to spend your final time on the ship.

Is There a Disney Character Breakfast on a Cruise?

Before 2020 select sailings of 7 nights and over had a Disney Character Breakfast on board. However, since sailing resumed, the character breakfasts have not returned.

Debarkation Day -- Breakfast timing?

First Disney cruise and trying to finalize transportation. We have second dinner seating, and are trying to figure out what time we can eat breakfast on our last day? We're heading to UOR afterwards, so we'd like to stuff ourselves one last time then deboard to head to the parks. We're on the Dream. Is there a buffet open anywhere or do we have to wait to eat? If we have to wait, what time can we go in for seating?

Dug720

See the line where the sky meets the sea?

If you go to the MDR for breakfast, you'll be assigned 8am since you have second seating. It will be in the MDR you dined (or were assigned if you did Palo or Remy) the final night. It's pre-plated options, so if "stuffing" is on your agenda, that could be challenging. I believe Cabanas is open, but I am not sure of the times as I like to take the last morning to say good-bye to my servers, so I go there.

anricat

DIS Veteran

We had second seating and we were off the boat by 9:30. We did eat in the MDR and had no problems stuffing ourselves. Yes you order off the menu but you can order as much as you want! It was actually my favorite breakfast because it was freshly prepared. It moved along quickly. Customs? Not so much.

owensamo

If you want to get to the parks close to opening, I'd recommend eating at Cabanas and then heading out. You will get debarkation and breakfast information in your room the last evening - it should include the hours for Cabanas (though I think Cabanas closes by 8:30). We started out going to the MDRs for breakfast, but now we usually hit Cabanas since it's easy to get as much or as little as you want from the buffet. Enjoy your cruise!

saintrob

Last cruise we were on second seating, ate in the MDR and were off the ship by 9am.

We eat in the MDR every morning for breakfast except the last morning. The MDR menu is very limited the last morning and doesn't include any of the items we really enjoy from the full breakfast menu. Cabanas is open during the same time which is nice since the selection is better and we don't have to rush down so early for breakfast.

mmouse37

Another vote for Cabanas on the last morning. Much less hectic. We usually go around 7:00 am and then head back to our cabin before 8:00 to get our carryons and head off the ship. MJ

over50visits

over50visits

Cabanas serves a pretty full breakfast selection that morning. It's hard to even find out they are open (such as in the Navigator or the sheet they give you about your last day), but it is there and we've always found tables available. We found a sweet spot for getting off...eat at Cabanas, and leave about 8:15. The first MDR breakfast shift is long gone and has generally cleared customs and immigration, and 99% of the second shift has just sat down to eat and they are still there. And the people in Cabanas tend to stay there, in our experience, until the food line closes at 8:30 with a lot of folks lingering until 9:00. If you do that, be prepared for the line to back up into the atrium!

insureman

Cabanas for sure. Go when you want to.

tvguy

Question anything the facts don't support.

Sandisw

Just came back. We had second seating...at breakfast right at 8:00. We were done by 8:30 and off the ship and on the shuttle to Disney by 9:00 am. Customs went pretty fast.

Disney Cruise Line Debarkation: A Complete Guide

by Kelly Coffey-Behrens | Jan 5, 2024 | Disney Cruise Line

Ever wonder what happens when your Disney cruise vacation comes to an end? We’re sharing everything you need to know about Disney Cruise Line debarkation below in this guide.

Although no one who’s set sail on a cruise vacation wants to think about it, every Disney Cruise Line sailing does come to an end –– and that means you’ll have to go through the debarkation process. Debarkation on a Disney cruise is definitely a process, and it’s one that includes multiple steps. You’ll need to be ready (and organized!) to ensure debarkation day goes smoothly.

So, what’s in store during the debarkation process for a Disney cruise? Here’s what you need to know before you set sail to familiarize yourself on what you need to do prior to debarkation and before your last day aboard any Disney ship.

The Disney Cruise Line Navigator App is Key for Debarkation

Before you set sail, make sure you download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app . You’ll rely on the app throughout your cruise, but it’s particularly critical during debarkation. In fact, what many guests don’t realize is the Disney Cruise Line debarkation process actually starts a day or two before you dock in port –– and you’ll need the Navigator app to get started.

New to Disney Cruise Line and using the Navigator app? It’ll be your best friend even before you board! Check out these tips for a smooth first-time experience .

The Disney Cruise Line Navigator app includes an entire section on debarkation. We highly recommend reading through this section a few days before your cruise ends so you can prepare any info you might need, plan your final day on the ship, and get your necessities in order beforehand.

Wrap Up Your Final Disney Cruise Purchases and Charges

When debarkation day arrives, there’s a lot to do –– and keep in mind. You can lighten the load a bit by crossing some tasks off your to-do list in advance, like finalizing your purchases, onboard charges, and double-checking all of your financial information before your cruise wraps up.

View Your Cruise Folio

One detail you don’t want to rush through is checking your cruise folio. We suggest doing this prior to debarkation day so you have time to take a full look at your bill for all onboard charges. You’ll find your cruise folio in the Navigator app.

Outstanding purchases will be charged to your credit card on file, but it’s still a good idea to scroll through the folio and ensure all the transactions are correct ahead of debarkation. Lines can be long on the last day prior to debarkation, so the sooner you do this, the better.

Check Out Your Cruise Photos

If you haven’t already done so throughout your cruise, we highly recommend utilizing the onboard photo kiosks to look at all the magical memories you captured in photos throughout your vacation.

You can decide whether to purchase a photo package or individual shots, but even if you aren’t sure if you’d like to purchase any photos, it’s important to do this before you debark. Once your cruise is over, this is no longer an option –– so you have limited time to make the decision!

Tipping Cast Members and Your Service Crew

When it comes to gratuities for Cast Members , Disney Cruise Line will automatically charge your account a standard gratuity fee for your stateroom host, dining room servers, assistant server, and head server. You don’t need to worry about these tips if you’re happy to stick with the automated amount.

However, if you found your service crew went above and beyond and wish to add an additional tip, you can do this at Guest Services or by adding cash to the gratuity envelopes that will be left in your stateroom on debarkation day. Remember, lines and wait times are long during debarkation day on a Disney cruise, so this is something you can do in advance to save time!

How to Handle Your Luggage During Disney Cruise Debarkation

There are two ways to deal with your luggage on debarkation day: Standard Departure or Express Walk Off.

On your last night of your cruise, you will receive a set of disembarkation luggage tags depicting a Disney character. If you want to utilize Standard Departure, you’ll fill out the name/address information on each tag and place them on your checked luggage pieces. You will then place your luggage outside your stateroom door prior to 11 PM that evening (times are subject to change, so be sure to check with your stateroom host for an exact time.)

The next morning, guests will be called to depart the ship in groups based on their luggage tag character/color. After you disembark, you will enter a large room which contains hundreds of pieces of luggage. Locate your Disney character/color to find your checked luggage.

If you want to utilize Express Walk Off, throw the character luggage tags away! You’ll debark the ship once you hear the announcement for “express.” You will be responsible for bringing everything with you, including all of your luggage.

Disney Cruise Line Debarkation Information

by Key to the World Travel Sep 24, 2019

You have just had a fabulous time on your Disney Cruise Line® cruise, and now sadly it is time to say goodbye. You will be heading off the ship to Port Canaveral for the final time in the morning, and soon thereafter a whole new set of Guests will set sail. In order to get the ship turned around, and ready to head out, Disney Cruise Line has put some procedures in place to make it smooth for everyone. Here is a quick overview of some important debarkation procedures.

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

Express Walk-Off

For Guests who wish to debark the ship early to make the most of their day, or catch an early flight, there is an option for you. Once the ship has been cleared by local authorities, you can walk off the ship with your own luggage and head directly to passport control. Please note that with this option you do not need to wait for your luggage inside the terminal building, but there will also be no assistance provided by the onboard crew or shoreside representatives. If you choose to take this option, you should meet in the Lobby Atrium of the ship by 7 am with all of your luggage, and wait for instructions.

For all other guests, you may put your luggage outside your stateroom the night before you debark, and then pick it up in the terminal. Character colored luggage tags will be provided to you by your room steward. These should be filled out with your name, stateroom, address, and the number of bags. Bags need to be outside your stateroom between 8:30 and 10:30 pm, or you will need to be hand-carried in the morning.

You will not have access to your luggage once you place it outside, so be sure to keep valuables, medicines, electronics, keys, your passport/birth certificate, cash, and Key to the World card in your day bag. You will also want to keep any items you need for the morning (toothbrush, combs, change of clothes, etc) as well.

Your luggage will be placed in colored zones, according to your stateroom number, for easy recognition in the port terminal. Porters will be available to assist you as you pass through U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Please keep in mind that the porters are employed by an independent company, so it is customary to provide a gratuity in recognition of their service.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection

After collecting your luggage, all Guests (both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens) in your party will need to present themselves for inspection with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Guests are required to have proof of citizenship in hand. To expedite this process, please have the head of the household present all documentation together to the officer. Non-U.S. Guests entering on the Visa Waiver Program must present their passports and the ESTA approval form. Non-U.S. Guests with Travel Visas must present their passports and travel documents.

Guests only need to complete a U.S. Customs Declaration Form if they have something to declare. They are available in multiple languages at the Guest Services Desk onboard the ship. Completed Customs Declaration Forms must be presented together with citizenship documentation to the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Officer.

Here are the customs rules. For specific questions, please go to the Guest Relations desk onboard the ship.

  • Total Duty-Free Allowance per person is $800. Your total purchases in ports of call or on the ship may be combined in any way to make up the $800 limit per person.
  • Total Liquor Allowance per person over the age of 21 is one liter.
  • Tobacco Allowance per person over the age of 18 is one carton (200 cigarettes) and 100 cigars
  • Currency or monetary instruments over $10,000 U.S. or foreign equivalent.
  • In accordance with Federal Law, NO fruits, foodstuffs or plant materials may be brought back into the United States. Heavy fines may be imposed on Guests found with these items. Green Palm handicrafts are discouraged for possible red mite infestation.

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

Breakfast will be served in the same restaurant where you were scheduled to dine on the last evening of your cruise, and according to your dining time. Guests on First Seating will eat at 6:45 am, Second Seating at 8:00 am. Please be prompt! Cabanas will also be open for breakfast. Cove Cafe will have limited hours for specialty coffees as well. There will be no room service available on debarkation morning. Please be sure to remember to bring your day bag (and any other luggage) with you to the restaurant, as you will be asked to debark the ship following breakfast

Before You Leave

There are several things you will want to take care of before leaving the ship.

  • Ensure your stateroom safe is left open when you leave your stateroom. All Guests must vacate their room by 8:00 am and debark the ship by 9:15 am.
  • If you placed a credit card on your account, there is no need to visit Guest Services, as your account will automatically be charged. However, if you are on a cash account, or wish to use an alternate form of payment, please settle your account prior to 7 am on debarkation day. A copy of your shipboard account will be delivered to your stateroom by 7 am.
  • If you wish to return your Oceaneer Band, please visit Disney’s Oceaneer Club or Disney’s Oceaneer Lab  before 11 pm on the final night of your cruise to receive credit. You may also choose to keep your Oceaneer band as a souvenir.
  • Shutters Photo Gallary will be open from 7 am – 9 am on debark morning, for photo and USB sales only. All other merchandise shops will be closed.
  • All lost and found items can be found at the Guest Services Desk.
  • Guests who purchased alcohol in the shipboard Duty-Free Shop or had alcohol collected at any of the ports, may retrieve these items at the desk located near the gangway between 7 am and 9:15 am.
  • Remember to deposit your comment card in the boxes provided outside each restaurant and by the gangway.

Airline check-in will be done at the airport, and you will need to present your Key to the World Card to board the bus. If you are participating in the Onboard Airline Check-in program, please follow the instructions provided with your boarding pass information packet that will be delivered to your stateroom. Debarkation Day on the Disney Cruise Line – What You Need to Know

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

The final day on a Disney Cruise is the dreaded debarkation day. Ending your vacation is never fun and leaving a ship as fabulous as one of the Disney Cruise Line is even harder. However, leaving a cruise ship is not as quick or straightforward as leaving a hotel room. There is a process that must be followed and can be confusing to first-time cruisers. Read all about the debarkation day below.

1 – It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye

The process for your debarkation begins the day before you leave the ship. Late afternoon on the last full day of your cruise, instructions on debarkation along with luggage tags will be delivered to your stateroom. The debarkation process will vary by passenger, and it really depends on your travel schedule the following day and how much you want to carry with you when you leave the ship. For instance, if you have an early flight the following day, you might choose to leave differently than if you have your car parked and no deadlines to make.

2 – Pack the Day Before

If you have a lot of luggage with you, or very large items, then you probably won’t want to carry these bags off the ship yourself. In this case, you’ll pack the majority of your items on your last day and leave your luggage in the hallway the last night to be picked up and carried off the ship by the crew. You will receive color-coded luggage tags (with a corresponding Disney character) to attach to your luggage with your debarkation instructions. Remember this color and Disney character. After leaving the ship you will claim your luggage in the area corresponding to that color/character.

Usually, you need to have our bags in the hall no later than 10:30 pm. This gives Cast Members time to pick up all luggage and prepare it for customs once the ship gets into port the next morning. Be sure you have a carry-on bag for anything you’ll need the following morning such as your toiletries, electronics, valuables, and clothing. DO NOT pack your Key to the World card or passport. You will need both to be exit the ship and clear customs!

The other option for packing is just to keep all of your bags and carry them off with you. If you choose this option, you will need to leave with the first group of passengers debarking (Express Walk-Off). This can be a good idea if you sailed with very little luggage or if you have a very early flight with a tight travel window. If you do not plan to leave the ship with the first group, let the crew handle your luggage. Elevators will be packed, and you will likely end up carrying your luggage up or down the stairs.

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

3 – All Ashore That’s Going Ashore!

If you haven’t cruised before, you may be surprised to learn that you can’t just leave the ship whenever you want. Because of US Customs and regulations, guests must be cleared to leave the ship. There are two options to leaving the ship: leave as soon as possible (Express Walk-Off) or leave later with your assigned group. Either way, plan on a very early morning! There is no sleeping in on your last day! The crew and cast members only have a few hours to turn around the ship for the next cruise, so the morning begins bright and early.

4 – Option 1-Express Walk-Off

If you choose to keep your bags with you and just simply want to get on the road as early as possible, you’ll want to plan on leaving the ship early with the first group. For this option, keep your bags with you. You will have no assistance in getting them off the ship, so make sure you have enough hands to carry all of your luggage. Guests using this option still have to be cleared by local authorities and wait for the Express Walk-Off announcement to leave the ship. For our cruise, guests using this option could expect to leave around 7:00 am.

5 – Option 2-Luggage Assistance with Breakfast

For those who want luggage assistance and breakfast, you’ll need to pack your bags and get them into the hallway as described above in #2. You’ll be eating breakfast in the same dining room you ate dinner on the last night. For instance, for our cruise, we ate at Royal Palace for the late seating (8:15 pm) the night before. Therefore, our breakfast time was 8:00 am in the same dining room. Guests who had the first seating for dinner were scheduled for breakfast at 6:45 am. For this option, be prepared to bring all remaining luggage items with you to breakfast. Once you leave your stateroom, you won’t be able to go back. After breakfast, you will wait for your color/character to be announced. While breakfast at Cabanas was not advertised, we did find it was open for guests who wanted a more flexible breakfast. We ate at Royal Palace because we had the time and because we wanted to say thank you and goodbye to our wonderful servers who we had gotten to know throughout the week.

6 – Early Flights

Note that those who have an early flight do not necessarily need to use the Express Walk-Off option. Guests with flights out of the nearest airport before 12:00 pm are considered to be early flights.

If you have an early flight and want luggage assistance, you need to contact Guest Services for an early debarkation luggage tag. If you have any questions or concerns, talk to Guest Services.

Future cruising tip: if at all possible, you’ll save yourself a whole lot of stress if you have an afternoon flight. There is a lot you can’t control, like when you will be cleared to leave the ship and traffic getting to the airport. Better to wait at the airport than miss your flight!

disney cruise disembarkation breakfast

7 – US Customs

On our first Disney cruise, after breakfast, we waited about thirty minutes for our color/character to be called. On this cruise, as soon as we finished breakfast, all colors had been cleared, so we could leave the ship right away. We lined up and, sadly, walked the plank. Our Key to the World cards were scanned as we left to ensure all passengers disembark. We were then directed to retrieve our luggage. After collecting our bags, we presented ourselves to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. Again, you’ll need to have proof of citizenship, your passport or a driver’s license and birth certificate, in hand and ready for inspection. If you have something to declare, a declaration form is also required. Rules on what needs to be declared are included in your debarkation instructions. Make sure your party is together to expedite the process.

8 – Transportation from Port

Disney has options for guests needing a transfer to the nearest airports. You can purchase transfers ahead of time, and you will be directed to a motorcoach to board. There are also plenty of taxis and other transportation options at the port. We prefer Uber or Lyft to pre-arranged transfers.

General information on disney cruises.

Disney Cruise Line currently operates five cruise ships: The Dream, Fantasy, Wonder, Magic and Wish. The Wish is Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, which had its inaugural sailing in 2022.

Disney Cruise Line offers a variety of sailings, including:

  • Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Port Canaveral, New Orleans and Galveston
  • Baja Mexico cruises out of San Diego
  • Alaskan cruises out of Vancouver
  • New England and Eastern Canadian cruises departing from New York City
  • European Cruises including the Mediterranean, British Isles and Norwegian Fjords
  • Transatlantic and Panama Canal Cruises
  • Starting in 2024, Disney Cruise Line will also be sailing around Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand

Wondering what’s the best Disney cruise for first timers? A 4-night cruise is always a good place to start if you’re unsure about cruising for 5+ nights. 3-night cruises can feel rushed, but a short Disney cruise is better than no Disney cruise!

Planning a Disney cruise for summer 2025? Summer 2025 Disney Cruise Line itineraries were just released, and you can book cruises any time between now and September 2025. This includes the new Lighthouse Point , which is Disney’s private oasis on the island of Eleuthera that will debut in the Bahamas in June of 2024.

Tips for Booking a Disney Cruise

Booking a Disney Cruise is very involved, from choosing the right sailing to picking the best stateroom. Below is some information to get you started with planning.

  • Use a travel agent who specializes in Disney. A Disney focused travel agent knows the ships and ports of call best. They will help you pick the best room, walk you through the pre-cruise processes and answer questions along the way.
  • You can search Disney cruise itineraries by visiting disneycruiseline.com , calling Disney Cruise Line or contacting your travel agent.
  • A deposit is required to secure your cruise , and it’s typically refundable prior to final payment at either 90 or 120 days, depending on the length of your cruise. Be sure to read the full terms and conditions before making a deposit.
  • Disney Cruise room types include inside rooms, oceanview rooms, verandah rooms, concierge rooms and suites. The suite sizes and locations can vary by ship.
  • Oceanview and Verandah rooms both have split bathrooms and they also have a bathtub. (Something you don’t typically see on other cruise lines!)
  • Inside rooms are the least expensive and smallest room types.
  • Not sure which location of the ship is best between forward, aft and midship? Midship rooms are typically known for experiencing less motion than aft (back) or forward (front) rooms.  Motion on the ship affects people differently, however, so what works best for one person in terms of deck number and location may not be an ideal room choice for someone else.
  • Guaranteed (GTY) rooms are generally made available for certain room categories at a discount as inventory starts running low. It means that your category is guaranteed, but your actual room number and deck will be assigned prior to departure.
  • If you’d like an elevated experience, Disney Cruise Line concierge rooms are available as well. These offer things like specific concierge lounges, larger rooms, complimentary alcoholic drinks and booking excursions and experiences early.
  • Disney offers Deluxe Oceanview and Oceanview Verandah cabins that sleep 5 people. For families of 6+ , either 2 connecting cabins or a 1+ bedroom concierge suite are required regardless of your kids’ ages.
  • If you need a passport for your cruise, be sure to apply for it at least 3 months before, unless you do expedited processing.

If you’re not currently working with a travel agent, feel free to contact me to get started. Not only do I provide Disney Cruise tips and tricks, but I also assist with each step and actions required along the way.

Pre-Cruise Tips

  • Excursions and onboard experiences can be booked starting at 75 days out from your cruise (at midnight) for first time cruises. It will be earlier if you have Castaway Cay Club status or are cruising concierge.
  • Online check-in dates depend on your Castaway Cay member status and room type. Pearl and Concierge guests can check in as early as 40 days prior to sailing. Platinum is 38 days, Gold is 35 days and Silver Castaway Cay members can check in 33 days prior to sailing. Everyone else can check in 30 days prior to sailing, starting at midnight. In order to get an earlier port arrival time, checking in at midnight is recommended, but it’s not required. Have images of your documents and headshots saved in a folder on your phone or computer to work through the process more quickly.
  • Upon checking in, you’re assigned a Port Arrival Time (PAT.) This is the time you can arrive at the port before boarding. You’re also assigned a boarding group #, which determines when you can actually board the ship once you pass the initial checkpoints at port.
  • Disney Cruise Line bus transportation is available from the airports or hotels to port at select locations. Check here to find out if it’s available for your sailing. You can call DCL to have it added up to 3 days before sailing (or ask your TA to do it for you!)
  • Royal Gatherings and special meet and greets for Marvel and/or Pixar Day at Sea sailings are also available for booking 30 days out at midnight.
  • Passports are recommended for cruising, but for many sailings that start and end in the US they’re not required. Find the Disney Cruise Known Before You Go overview here for sailing requirements and acceptable proof of identification for cruising on Disney Cruise Line.
  • You can prepay gratuities prior to sailing, otherwise they will be added to onboard expenses at the end of your cruise. As of February 2023, prepaid gratuities are $14.50 per person per night.
  • Download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app on everyone’s phone before you sail. This will make it easier to access the itinerary and activities when you get onto the boat.
  • To engage with other cruise goers and stay informed, join the Facebook group for your cruise . You can usually find this by searching Disney [ship name] and the date of sailing.
  • Disney Cruise Line Fish Extender groups exchange items like ornaments, snacks, etc and are usually managed by the Facebook groups. You can buy a fish extender here to put outside of your cruise door.
  • Disney cruisers are big on decorating their doors, and cruise door magnets are a fun and easy way to do it.
  • You can schedule a Disney Cruise Line pre-cruise call with Minnie and Mickey or Goofy. To book your DCL character call, go to My Reservations and select “Request Call.”
  • Vaccinations and covid tests are no longer required for DCL sailings as of November 14, 2022.

Packing Tips for Disney Cruises

When packing for a Disney Cruise, our biggest tip is to not over pack. Cruise cabins are smaller than traditional hotel rooms and you will likely need less than you think. Below are a handful of packing tips for Disney cruises.

  • Pack anything you need for the first day in your carry-on , including prescription medicine, identification documents and port arrival forms. We recommend bringing a swimsuit or change of clothes, sunscreen and anything else you need until your luggage is delivered.
  • Make sure you have the identification documents you used for online check-in. You will not get on the cruise if you forget these! I always recommend taking a picture of birth certificates as a backup as well.
  • Each adult 21+ can bring up to 2 bottles of wine or a 6 pack of beer or hard seltzer onboard. Another one of our lesser-known Disney cruise tips is that you can also bring unopened bottles of water and packaged snacks. Just make sure any alcohol, bottled water and snacks are unopened and in your carry-on bags. (Note: So many people ask about alcohol packages on Disney Cruise Line, and there isn’t one on DCL.
  • What should you wear on a Disney cruise? Disney cruises tend to be more casual than other cruise lines. Casual clothes like shorts and tees or a swimsuit and cover up are great for during the day. While we tend to dress a little nicer for dinner, you can also get away with wearing shorts and t-shirts unless you’re dining at the adults only restaurants.
  • Itineraries with 7+ nights typically have a formal night and those with 4+ nights typically have a dress up night. Call DCL or ask your travel agent to find out what night this is. (But again, with Disney cruises being more casual, you won’t be out of place if you don’t participate!)
  • Don’t forget to pack your Disney gear! Minnie ears, Disney shirts and princess dresses are all encouraged on Disney Cruise Line.
  • Some extra things we like to pack for a Disney cruise: refillable water bottles, magnets for your door and inside the room, and activities/ fidget toys for the kids to have at dinner.

See Disney Cruise Line packing tips for more tips on packing and what to bring your cruise carry on.

Booking DCL Excursions & Onboard Experiences

Like all cruise lines, Disney Cruise Line offers a variety of excursions at each port. In addition, Disney cruises offer several free and paid activities on the ship for both adults and kids. You can find more information on both below.

  • You book them on any day under onboard activities and they will be available for the duration of the cruise.
  • If you don’t purchase the photo package, you can still purchase individual pictures before you leave the ship.
  • Photos are available for download up to 45 days after your sailing at disneycruise.disney.go.com/photos/ .
  • Disney cruise offers a specific list of excursions, and they can change by sailing. You can find the list of Disney Cruise Line Port Adventures here .
  • If you need towels for an excursion, they’re provided when you get off the ship.
  • If you have to make changes to excursions or onboard experiences , you can go to Guest Services or cancel directly in the app. Just be sure to review cancellation policies as you will be charged if you don’t cancel within the specified timeframe.
  • The shows on the Disney Cruise Line are Broadway style and offered two times a night. The first show is typically at 6:30pm and the second show is typically at 8:15pm. Shows differ by ship and sailing.
  • Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique on Disney Cruise Line is offered for ages 3+ and includes a full makeover, hair and nails. You can pack your own outfit or purchase something there for an additional charge. This can be booked in advance under onboard activities or when you arrive on the ship.
  • Disney Cruise Line offers a great spa, salon and barber shop for adults. You can book these in advance under onboard activities or head to the spa when you arrive to schedule a time. (I got a haircut and style at the Tangled Salon on the Disney Wish and had such a good experience!)

One of our biggest first time Disney cruise tips is to take full advantage of the included activities offered on the ship. You can easily have an amazing time without spending any additional money.

Disney Cruise Embarkation Day Tips & Overview

Wondering how the Disney cruise boarding process works? The highlights are below.

  • When you arrive at the port, the porters will take your luggage except for carry-ons. (I recommend having a few dollars on you for a tip!)
  • When it’s your port arrival time, you’ll go through screening so they can check carry-ons, Port Arrival Time (PAT) form and documents for identification.
  • Have your PAT document accessible at all times since they’ll ask for it multiple times as well as your docs (ID + Birth Certificate or passport.)
  • When it’s time for you to board your ship, your boarding group number will be called over the loudspeaker. There’s typically a holding area to wait until your boarding group is called which is similar to airport gates. (Note: Your Disney Cruise boarding time will vary depending on how quickly they move through the boarding groups. On our most recent cruise, we had a PAT of 11:15am and our boarding group was called at 11:45am.)
  • When you get on the ship, you can do a number of things including lunch at the buffet or available table service restaurant, check out the kids’ clubs, use the pool etc. (One of our biggest Disney Cruise embarkation tips is to explore and check out the areas you may not otherwise get to access during the cruise, like adults only dining, kids’ clubs, etc.)
  • Rooms are typically ready around 2pm and luggage will arrive after that.

Tips for During Your Cruise

There were a handful of things we didn’t realize on our first Disney cruise. These tips for first time Disney cruisers include a handful of things we learned on the cruise.

  • The full itinerary , character greetings and activities will be available in the Navigator app when you arrive at port. Be sure to review the daily schedules on your first day. One of our Disney cruise hacks is to “favorite” the activities you want to do so that you get reminders throughout the cruise. (This applies for things like character greetings, family crafts, adults only activities and more.)
  • The Sail Away Party is a can’t miss activity on Disney Cruise Line. It’s a fun party with singing, dancing and so many characters as the ship sails away.
  • Pirate Nights take place on most Caribbean Sailings and have fun activities, characters dressed in pirate gear, a special show and fireworks at night. The Disney Cruise pirate night menu is also available for most sailings, which is a special themed dinner with items like crab cakes, shrimp and jerk chicken.
  • If you’re looking for free adults only activities on Disney Cruise Line, there are things like adults only trivia, crafts and more that are only for 18+. You can also use The Cove, which is an adult only pool and relaxation area on Disney Cruise Line.
  • You can communicate on the ship using the chat feature between those in your stateroom. To communicate with those outside of your stateroom, you need to get their chat ID number.
  • Wi-Fi on Disney Cruise Line is an extra charge and options vary by ship. To avoid additional cell phone charges, put your plan on airplane mode with the onboard Wi-Fi.
  • Character meet & greets typically take place in the ship’s grand hall/ atrium or in the kids’ club areas. Lines typically go quickly, and you likely will not wait more than 15 minutes for a meet and greet. Try to arrive a few minutes early to get in line.
  • Take a screenshot of your charges in the app before leaving the ship, as it’s the only way you can review the detailed charges. Visit Guest Services to resolve any discrepancies before disembarking.

Dining Tips for Disney Cruise Line

One question I get a lot is, how does dining work on Disney Cruise Line? Each cruise line has its own approach to dining, and Disney has some unique features that we feel sets it apart.

  • Disney Cruise Line has rotational dining each night for dinner, which means you will rotate to different themed restaurants each night of your cruise. You can request a specific dining rotation prior to your cruise by calling DCL or asking your Travel Agent to do so. You won’t find out the confirmed dining rotation until you board the ship.
  • There are two Disney cruise dining times . Main dining is at 5:45pm and second dining is at 8:15pm. Main dining fills up first, but you can be added to a waitlist if you don’t initially get the seating you want.
  • Smaller groups are typically sat with other families. You can request a private table, but it’s not guaranteed. DCL usually aims to put people of similar ages/ families together.
  • There’s a buffet on Disney Cruise Line that’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a variety of options for every age and diet. On most ships, the buffet is called Cabanas, but on the Disney Wish it’s called Marceline Market.
  • The pool decks offer unlimited soft serve and fountain drinks as well as a variety of lunch options.
  • Standard tips for servers and room hosts are automatically calculated per person. Envelopes and tickets with the total amount of gratuities are provided on your last night. You can add additional cash to the baseline tip for the amazing staff at the end and then hand it to the servers at your last meal.  Note: When you purchase an alcoholic drink at dinner or in a lounge, 18% gratuity is automatically added up front.
  • The bars throughout the ships typically serve specialty coffees in addition to alcoholic drinks. Punch cards are available for a free coffee after you purchase 5.
  • Lounges on Disney cruise ships are open to kids during the day, and they are adults only in the evenings.
  • Room service on Disney Cruise Line is included with your rate. It includes everything from coffee and pastries to dinner and Mickey bars. A $1 per item tip is recommended for delivery.
  • Adults only dining on Disney cruises is also available. These specialty dining experiences are available for an additional fee, and you can book them when your onboard activities booking window opens.

Tips for Cruising with Kids on Disney

There are so many amazing Disney cruise activities for kids, that it’s no surprise it’s one of the best cruise lines for families. Below are a few tips for going on a Disney Cruise with kids.

  • Kids must be potty trained to use the regular pools, but all Disney Cruise ships have a splash pad for younger kids.
  • Life vests are provided on board and at Castaway Cay for kids.
  • Strollers are available to borrow at Castaway Cay, and some ships also have them available as you leave for excursions.
  • With the exception of the nursery, the kids’ clubs on Disney Cruise Line are included with your rate. They include: Oceaneers Club for ages 3-12, Vibe for ages 11-14 and Edge for ages 14-17.
  • Disney Cruise Line kids’ clubs are open for all ages during Open House on the embarkation day. It’s a fun way for the whole family to explore these areas.
  • Your kids ages 3+ will get a wrist band to access the kids’ clubs during the cruise.  They charge you $12 up front, and the charge is removed when you return it.
  • The nursery is available on a half hour basis for kids up to (and including) age 3. The current rate is $4.50 per half hour for the nursery on DCL. You can sign up for the nursery in advance on the Disney Navigator app or book when you arrive on the ship.
  • Your room host will set up your pull-down beds based on your family’s needs. Pack-n-plays and bed rails are available upon request.
  • If you’re going on a Disney cruise with a baby or toddler in diapers, a diaper genie will also be provided in your room. Baby food can be requested as well.
  • The minimum age for infants on a Disney cruise is 6 months for most sailings.

Disney Cruise Disembarkation Tips

Disembarking is always the saddest part about a Disney cruise. Below are a few tips so you know what to expect when disembarking a Disney cruise.

  • The night before you disembark your Disney cruise, you’ll get luggage tags with a Disney character. Place them on your luggage and leave them outside of your door for pickup by 10:30pm.
  • If you have an earlier flight the next morning, you can use express walkoff and take your luggage yourself, versus leaving it outside the night before. (Pro Tip: Check the recommended departure flight times for Disney Cruise Line to ensure you have enough time to get to the airport.)
  • Disembarkation day breakfast is usually at the same restaurant you ate at the prior night, which your servers will confirm. Those with Main Dining have breakfast around 6:45am, and those with Second Dining typically have breakfast around 8am.  You can also have breakfast at the buffet on your Disney cruise disembarkation day. It’s usually open from 6:30- 8:30am.
  • The ship will typically clear customs around 7:30am, pending any issues. At that time, an announcement will be made over the loudspeaker that guests are able to disembark.
  • Guests should plan to bring checked bags to breakfast and vacate the ship directly after breakfast.  You’ll pick up your luggage after disembarking in the area with the character that matches your luggage tags.
  • There isn’t technically a set disembarkation time for Disney cruises . At most ports, guests are asked to clear the ship by 9am and should exit by 9:30am at the latest.

Disney Cruise Line Placeholder

If you loved your Disney cruise experience (as I’m sure you will!) be sure to check the Navigator app for an offer to put down a deposit for a placeholder for 10% off a future cruise. You can reserve up to 2 placeholders by paying a $250 fully refundable placeholder deposit that will go toward the cruise.

Pro Tip: We usually do 2 placeholders just in case we invite family or friends- knowing that we can cancel the 2nd for a refund if we don’t use it!

You can then apply the placeholder(s) to the same cruise for up 24 months from your current sailing. Be sure to also select your travel agent in the drop down if you want to work with them again! After purchasing your placeholder, you’ll receive an email with a reservation number to book your next cruise. This is a great offer if you think there’s even a chance you will sail again on Disney Cruise Line.

Pre and Post Cruise Plans

  • We always recommend flying in the night before your cruise and staying nearby. If you experience flight delays (which is so common right now) you could risk missing the cruise disembarkation if you fly that day.
  • If you have a late flight out on the evening of disembarkation day, many rental car companies have free shuttles from port if you want to explore for the day.
  • If you’re traveling out of Port Canaveral, you can tack on a visit to Disney World or stop at Kennedy Space Center on the way back to MCO airport.

If you book your Disney cruise with a travel agent, they can also help with your pre-cruise and post-cruise travel plans and logistics. Another reason to book with a TA!

Is a Disney cruise for adults? Here are 5 reasons why I say yes

G ourmet French dinners, $5,000 cocktail experiences , serene infinity pools and penthouse suites that cost thousands of dollars a night might not be the first thing you think of when someone mentions a Disney cruise. But you'll find it all on Disney ships.

I sailed with the line for the first time more than a decade ago, and I didn't want to take the assignment. I'm a child-free adult, I'm not a particularly over-the-top Disney fan, and all I could imagine was a theme park at sea — characters everywhere, souvenir shops galore and, of course, tons of kids.

Simply, I was wrong.

What I found was an absolutely wonderful experience on an elegant ship with superb service, phenomenal entertainment, delicious food and just enough subtle magic to instill a bit of childlike wonder without making me feel immature.

Disney Cruise Line has maintained its four older ships exceptionally well, and its newest vessel, Disney Wish — its first new-build in 10 years — is also pretty great. Across the board, my opinion still stands: Disney cruises aren't just for kids. So, if you're trying to find a Disney cruise for adults, don't worry — they all fit the bill. Here are five reasons why you'll love the experience, even as a grownup.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

You control how 'Disney' you want it to be

Let me allay your fears: When you sail with Disney, you won't be overwhelmed by Mickey and friends the way you might be at the brand's land-based amusement parks. However, that experience is available should you choose to seek it.

The subtlety with which Disney manages to incorporate branded touches on its ships is commendable and classy. You'll find nods to various Disney animated movie classics as you move between decks — a pumpkin on the carpet here, a snowflake on the wall there — but you're likely to find it more tasteful than obnoxious.

If you'd like to avoid a largely Disney-fied ambience, it's easy to do. If, instead, you prefer a more immersive cruise, you're also in luck, as the ships host scheduled character meet-and-greets, themed dining experiences and more.

There are tons of adults-only spaces

Grownups who wish to keep strictly to an older crowd will love the adults-only venues on all Disney ships.

On Disney's four older vessels — Disney Dream , Disney Fantasy (which is my pick for the best Disney cruise ship for adults ), Disney Wonder and Disney Magic — adults-only bars and nightclubs are clustered into one area, known as The District. After 9 p.m., nobody younger than 18 is permitted inside, allowing the more mature set to let its hair down sans kids.

On Disney Wish, the age-limited spaces are more spread out, a purposeful layout designed to help alleviate crowding and improve traffic flow. Personally, I prefer The District's setup, but the watering holes on the new ship are, frankly, the most impressive in the fleet to date.

What's impressive about these offerings is that most other ships don't have them. Apart from Virgin Voyages , Viking , P&O Cruises and Saga Cruises, all of which sail adults-only vessels , the most other lines offer is an adults-only sun deck or pool here and there. Even where those areas exist, age limits aren't always strictly enforced, and sometimes you have to pay for access, none of which is the case on Disney ships.

Even the least expensive accommodations are elevated

Disney cruises are a cut above the sailings you'll find with most other mainstream lines. When it comes to accommodations, even the most basic feel elevated. All have two bathrooms; one has a shower with a tub (rare on cruise ships) and a sink, and the other has a toilet and a sink.

Disney provides its own brand of toiletries in cabin bathrooms. The products are so popular — they smell divine — that the line sells them in its onboard gift shops.

All rooms also offer a dividing curtain that creates two separate areas. Although these features were designed with families in mind, they're also convenient for friends traveling together, adding to the argument that a Disney cruise could make for a perfect girlfriends getaway.

On the high end, the line sells a variety of suite accommodations. New on Disney Wish, the Tower Suite is the most coveted and most expensive, carrying a price tag of several thousand dollars per night.

Located in the ship's fake funnel, the suite is two decks high and includes three bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths and a large living room area. Its understated nautical decor pays subtle tribute to "Moana." Unfortunately, because of the layout, there's no balcony, but you'll still be spoiled beyond belief if you book a stay there.

You can also choose to book concierge-level staterooms , which offer perks like priority boarding and disembarkation, access to a dedicated lounge with free drinks in the evenings and dibs on booking the best spa appointments and shore excursions.

Delicious dining options range from basic to gourmet

Disney Cruise Line's dining options allow you to either join the masses (where there will be children, so take heed) in the free dining rooms, head to the buffet or open-air food court, or opt for an adults-only added-fee option.

On all of the fleet's ships, standard dining is rotational, which means you'll move to a different main dining room each night but with the same table number, tablemates and waitstaff.

In my experience, dining across the board on Disney ships has been absolutely scrumptious and well prepared, regardless of where I chose to eat and how much extra I paid.

On Disney Wish, 1923 is a throwback to the golden age of animation. Split into two parts, it offers a more intimate setting than what you'd find at Royal Court, the more understated free dining venue on the line's other vessels.

For more immersive and somewhat gimmicky meals that are fun but often loud, adult passengers on Disney Wish will want to check out Worlds of Marvel and Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure . The former brings Ant-Man and The Wasp tableside (via prerecorded broadcast) to show off their new discovery — a Quantum Core, with which Ant-Man unwittingly shrinks the ship down to the size of a toy boat. During the latter, you'll find much singing and dancing to celebrate the engagement of Anna and Kristoff, two of the main characters from "Frozen." In line with the theme, the menu is largely Norwegian.

On the four original ships, immersive options include Animator's Palate, where "Finding Nemo" characters talk with you as you eat; Enchanted Garden, which feels a bit like a scene from "Alice in Wonderland," where you can watch as the scenery slowly turns from day to night; and Rapunzel's Royal Table, where characters from "Tangled" make an appearance.

Also on the original vessels, Palo is an adults-only Italian eatery . On Disney Wish, it has been transformed into an elegantly styled steakhouse that exudes "Beauty and the Beast" vibes. This is the perfect option for anyone who wants something less casual than the buffet but also wants to avoid crowds and noise in the main dining rooms without paying a fortune.

Before you go in, stop at The Rose bar, which is perfect for tasty pre-dinner cocktails.

Enchante and Remy are two of the most expensive alternative dining options at sea for any cruise line. Both feature French cuisine and are reserved exclusively for adult diners. The latter appears on older DCL ships and was inspired by (and named after the main character in) "Ratatouille."

Enchante is new as of the debut of Disney Wish. It offers a completely revamped menu by chef Arnaud Lallement, who's also the mastermind behind the menu at Remy. Enchante allows for a la carte dining, or you can choose from one of two experiences: Passion, a seven-course meal for $125, or Collection, a selection of surprise courses curated by the chef for $195. (Wine and Champagne pairings cost extra.)

The kids clubs are fantastic

"But, wait," you're thinking. "I thought this was an article about why Disney Cruises are great for adults." You're exactly right, and that's why this one is so important.

The Oceaneer Club offerings on Disney ships are so fun, engaging and technologically advanced that kids often don't want to leave. So, whether you're a parent looking for some downtime or a child-free adult who doesn't appreciate little ones pushing all the elevator buttons or teens clogging up stairwells, you won't have to worry about a barrage of younger passengers.

From babysitting for infants, kids and tweens to phenomenal play areas (think: themes like princesses, Marvel superheroes and "Star Wars"), the line's childcare services are a cut above those provided by all other cruise brands. In fact, they're so cool you'll wish you could spend time there yourself — and you can during designated hours on each voyage.

Bottom line

Although you won't be able to completely avoid children on Disney ships, you can still enjoy the magic of The Mouse in several adults-only spaces found on all of the line's ships. The onboard experience will make you feel like a kid again but in luxurious surroundings and with the excellent service and attention to detail that have become hallmarks of the Disney brand.
