Cameron Young on why he has SHUNNED LIV Golf to pursue PGA Tour future

Cameron Young reveals why he has said no to LIV Golf and is remaining with the PGA Tour.

young liv tour

Cameron Young has confirmed he has rejected LIV Golf and will remain on the PGA Tour following an interview with The Athletic's Brendan Quinn after the Tour Championship.

Young, who closed with a 69 at East Lake to finish 19th in the FedEx Cup, finished runner-up five times on the PGA Tour in his rookie season.

Rory McIlroy won the FedEx Cup for a record third time, and he threw shade at LIV Golf in his victory speech.

Young, 25, had been heavily linked with a move to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Tour after the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Despite admitting LIV Golf had his attention, Young claims the latest big changes from the PGA Tour earlier in the week clarified his decision.

Also ensuring he could compete in the Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup and all the majors was part of his thinking process, too.

Cameron Young on why he has SHUNNED LIV Golf to pursue PGA Tour future

"I mean, frankly, I have decided to stay [on the PGA Tour]," Young told The Athletic's Brendan Quinn .

He added: "It's obviously the elephant in the room for everyone. Frankly, throughout the whole process with them [LIV Golf], I was very interested. I think they have a bunch of good ideas and are doing some cool stuff.

"With some of the changes coming [to the PGA Tour], that's kind of what really helped me decide to kind of stay and pursue those goals that I have for myself like making a Presidents Cup team and a Ryder Cup team and winning a major, when all of that is just uncertain if you go.

"That's a tough place for me because, you know, I'm very young and there are a lot of factors."

Shortly thereafter asked Cam Young about the pressure to give a definitive yes or no answer. Pretty telling response, in terms of reading his level of commitment to remaining on tour: pic.twitter.com/7HUB3Imj1L — Brendan Quinn (@BFQuinn) August 28, 2022

Young is expected to be named Rookie of the Year on the PGA Tour following a season that saw him finish runner-up five times, highlighted by finishing second behind Cameron Smith at the 150th Open Championship.

He also moved from outside the world's top 150 and into the top 20.

Cameron Tringale confirmed he was moving to LIV Golf earlier today, and he thanked Tiger Woods in the process.

The American is expected to be one of seven new players lining up at LIV Golf's next tournament in Boston next week.

ATLANTA – Cameron Young, the presumptive Rookie of the Year, said Sunday at the Tour Championship that he was “very interested” in LIV Golf but has decided to remain with the PGA Tour.

Speaking to a small group of reporters at East Lake, Young was asked about his future plans with rumors and speculation swirling about his interest in the rival tour.

“Frankly, I have decided to stay,” he said. “It’s a really difficult situation because it’s not anything that anyone really wanted to happen. I think it wasn’t meant to be this hostile between the two.”

Young was part of the players-only meeting that convened ahead of last week’s BMW Championship. Arriving late, he sat next to Rory McIlroy but didn’t offer any opinion on the proposed changes. “I was there to listen,” Young said.

Earlier this week, the Tour announced significant changes to its schedule and structure that will cater more to the elite players in the world. Beginning in 2023, the top 20 players will commit to playing at least 20 Tour events with average purse sizes of $20 million.

Those changes still haven’t been enough to sway the next wave of defectors, a group that will include world No. 2 and reigning Open champion Cameron Smith, GolfChannel.com confirmed on Saturday. Joaquin Niemann, Harold Varner III, Marc Leishman, Cameron Tringale and Mito Pereira are also reportedly part of the next announcement, which could come as early as Monday.

In the midst of a breakout rookie year, Young has also been linked to the upstart tour, which he views as an entirely different product from the PGA Tour. He confirmed that he received a significant offer to leave the Tour.

“Frankly, throughout the whole process with them I was very interested,” Young said. “I think they have a bunch of good ideas. I think they’re doing some cool stuff, and with some of those changes coming, that’s what really helped me decide to stay and pursue those goals that I have for myself, like making the Presidents Cup team or Ryder Cup team and winning a major, when all of that is just uncertain if you go.

“It’s a tough place for me because I’m very young. There’s a lot of factors to it.”

When asked whether he wished the two tours could coexist, the 25-year-old Young said: “I don’t know what I wish. I wish it hadn’t come along at this specific place in my career.”

Young is a shoe-in to be named the Tour’s top rookie after a season in which he earned five runner-up finishes (including at The Open) in 24 events, clearing more than $6.5 million in earnings. One of two rookies to reach the Tour Championship, Young entered the season finale at No. 14 in the FedExCup but dropped to 19 th place.

“I expected to play well and have chances to win tournaments,” he said of his rookie campaign. “I kinda expected to win one. I feel like once a year, everything goes my way and I beat everybody, and that didn’t happen this season. I have a couple events left in the fall that I could [win], but I kind of operate under the assumption that’d happen at some point if I put my head down.”

Young, who will likely receive a captain’s pick to play in next month’s Presidents Cup, said that he expects to compete in at least the Zozo Championship and CJ Cup in the fall slate of Tour events.

Will Cameron Young remain on PGA Tour? Source reveals his intention

Cameron Young may not be going anywhere.

The likely PGA Tour Rookie of the Year was linked to the upstart LIV Golf tour by The Times UK on Wednesday, but a person close to the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue said the 25-year-old former Scarborough resident isn’t likely to join the Saudi-backed league.

Young has seven top-three finishes this season and was runner-up to Cameron Smith at St. Andrew’s last month in the 150 th Open Championship.

The former Wake Forest standout, entered this week 10 th on the PGA Tour money list with $6.3 million in 22 events.

“He has been contacted by them, but at this point is very strongly inclined to remain on the PGA Tour,” the source said.

Multiple reports on Tuesday had Smith heading to LIV Golf after the playoffs, which begin Thursday with the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Young has enjoyed a whirlwind season. He did not have status on any professional tour last spring but played his way onto the Korn Ferry Tour and won twice there in 2021. The Fordham Prep grad missed the cut at the Masters and the U.S. Open. He was tied for third at the PGA Championship before placing behind Smith at the British last month.

Young is currently 17 th in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Players who have signed on with the breakaway league have either resigned their PGA Tour memberships or have been suspended from playing on the PGA Tour. A federal judge Tuesday allowed that suspension to stand, denying a temporary restraining order sought by three LIV golfers seeking to play in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Cameron Young says he is staying with PGA Tour after discussions with LIV Golf

ATLANTA -- PGA Tour Rookie of the Year favorite Cameron Young said Sunday that he is staying with the tour after having discussions with LIV Golf about joining the new circuit.

Young, speaking after Sunday's final round of the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club, said he was intrigued by LIV Golf's "fresh ideas" but was encouraged that a group of top players are working with PGA Tour officials to make the tour better.

"Frankly, I have decided to stay," Young said. "It's a really difficult situation because it's not anything that anyone really wanted to happen. I think it wasn't meant to be this kind of hostile between the two."

Young, the 17th-ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking, became the seventh player since 1980 to finish runner-up five times in a season. He was the first player to do it since Vijay Singh in 2003. Young finished second at the Sanderson Farms Championship, Genesis Invitational, Wells Fargo Championship, The Open and the Rocket Market Mortgage Classic.

Young, 25, had 11 top-25s in 24 starts and finished the regular season ninth in the FedEx Cup standings. He is the first PGA Tour rookie to earn $5 million or more in a season. Going into the Tour Championship, Young had earned more than $6.5 million.

On Monday, LIV Golf is expected to announce the addition of at least six PGA Tour members, including world No. 2 golfer Cameron Smith , who defeated Young by 1 stroke in the 150th Open at St. Andrews. Chile's Joaquin Niemann , Australia's Marc Leishman , the United States' Harold Varner III , India's Anirban Lahiri and American Cameron Tringale are also expected to defect and compete in LIV Golf's next event in Boston.

Chile's Mito Pereira is also expected to join LIV Golf at some point in the future, sources told ESPN.

Young attended last week's PGA Tour players' meeting at the BMW Championship in Wilmington, Delaware, that was led by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy . Young said he sat next to McIlroy and was "there to listen and not speak."

On Tuesday, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan announced that the tour's top players had committed to play in 20 events, starting in the 2022-23 season. The schedule also will have 13 elevated events with average purses of $20 million.

"We don't know who's going to go after this week or next year," Young said. "I think there's a really nice core group of guys that are just going to stay, and a lot of them are highly ranked players in the world. I don't think the competition on the PGA Tour is going to go downhill significantly."

Cameron Young has decided to stay on the PGA Tour . After Sunday’s final round of the Tour Championship, Young was asked if it would be difficult to pull the trigger and say no to joining LIV Golf.

“I mean, frankly, I have decided to stay,” Young said.  “So, I don’t know, it’s a really difficult situation, because it’s not really anything anyone wanted to happen. I think it wasn’t meant to be this hostile between the two.”

Speculation increased Friday about Young joining LIV Golf after No Laying Up pointed out his name was one of several that were part of a promo code for tickets for the event next week in Boston. Shortly after, the codes were disabled.

Young added that the recently announced changes for the 2023 PGA Tour season swayed him to stay.

Despite strong interest in LIV, Cameron Young will remain on PGA Tour

Cameron Young confirmed to reporters last week that despite being in discussions with LIV Golf, he will remain loyal to the PGA Tour.

The PGA Tour will retain the talents of one its most promising young stars.

Rookie Cameron Young told reporters at last week’s Tour Championship that he has decided to continue competing on the PGA Tour instead of defecting to LIV Golf.

“Frankly, I have decided to stay,” Young said, according to Golf Channel’s Ryan Lavner . “It’s a really difficult situation because it’s not anything that anyone really wanted to happen. I think it wasn’t meant to be this hostile between the two.”

Young, the runaway favorite to win Rookie of the Year, had previously been reported as a potential defector to the Saudi-backed tour. However, after a slew of changes to the Tour were announced last week, Young has decided to continue competing on the establishment circuit.

“With some of those changes coming, that’s what really helped me decide to stay and pursue those goals that I have for myself, like making the Presidents Cup team or Ryder Cup team and winning a major, when all of that is just uncertain if you go,” Young said. “It’s a tough place for me because I’m very young. There’s a lot of factors to it.”

LIV Golf is expected to announce their next crop of commitments early this week. Among those expected to be announced are Joaquin Niemann, Harold Varner III, Anirban Lahiri, Marc Leishman, Cameron Tringale and reigning Open champion Cameron Smith .

“Frankly, throughout the whole process with them I was very interested,” Young said. “I wish it hadn’t come along at this specific place in my career.”

Although Young did not earn a victory during his first season on Tour, he put together one of the most impressive rookie campaigns in recent memory, notching five runner-up finishes and earning over $6 million. He was one of just two rookies to reach the Tour Championship, and he finished 19th in the final FedEx Cup standings.

“I expected to play well and have chances to win tournaments,” Young said. “I kinda expected to win one. I feel like once a year, everything goes my way and I beat everybody, and that didn’t happen this season.”

Report: Cameron Young to leave PGA Tour for LIV Golf Series

Is it time to add another Cameron to the LIV Golf Series roster?

A day after reports surfaced that Cam Smith, the 2022 Champion Golfer of the Year, has signed with the Saudi-backed, Greg Norman-led circuit, Cameron Young could now join the breakaway league as well, according to The Times UK .

Smith had “no comment” on the report at his Tuesday press conference ahead of this week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The Aussie trails only Scottie Scheffler in the FEC standings .

Young is the favorite to bring home the 2022 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year award after collecting seven top-three finishes in 22 events, including a runner-up to Smith at the 150th Open Championship (his fourth of five runner-ups this season).

The 25-year-old won twice during his Korn Ferry Tour career but has yet to break through on the PGA Tour. He’s ranked 17th in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Another PGA Tour winner expected to sign with LIV Golf

1231439323

PEBBLE BEACH — LIV Golf has added another PGA Tour winner to its roster.

Sebastian Munoz is expected to be named to the Saudi-backed circuit this week. The Telegraph was the first to break the news, with a source close to the PGA Tour confirming to Golf Digest the belief that Munoz is set to defect.

The 30-year-old from Colombia has made more than 130 PGA Tour starts in his career, winning the Sanderson Farms Championship in 2019. He participated in the 2022 Presidents Cup, going 2-0-1 for the International team at Quail Hollow—including a Sunday singles win over then-World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Munoz has made six starts on tour so far in the 2022-23 season, missing the cut a week ago at the Farmers Insurance Open.

The move is not necessarily a surprise, as Munoz is in this week’s Saudi International field. Though the event is sanctioned by the Asian Tour it is notably sponsored by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which is the primary backer of LIV Golf. The field is also filled with LIV Golf members, including Cameron Smith , Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson , Joaquin Niemann and Talor Gooch. Bringing in Munoz continues LIV’s focus on the Latin America market. The league already boasts Niemann, Abraham Ancer and Carlos Ortiz. Chile's Mito Pereira—also in this week’s Saudi International field—is reportedly expected to join LIV as well.

There are several current PGA Tour players in this week’s Saudi International field, receiving conflicting-event releases from the tour to play in the event. One name of note from this group is Cameron Young. The reigning Rookie of the Year acknowledged his interests in LIV Golf last year at the Tour Championship, but at the time said he was sticking with the PGA Tour.

The LIV Golf season will begin Feb. 24 at Mayakoba, with both individual and team competitions similar to the inaugural season returning.

At Stake This Weekend For LIV Golfers: A Claret Jug, and Respectability

  • Author: Alex Miceli

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — Good vs. Evil.

Many books, movies and songs are written, shot and composed with the fight between the virtuous, moral, decent and respectable against the wicked, vile and immoral.

The theme of good vs. evil is highlighted throughout the bible, Shakespeare’s tragedy "Macbeth" and in all eight "Harry Potter" movies, where author J.K. Rowling drives the point home.

Maybe this is overkill considering the rest of this discourse will be about the genteel game of golf, which has become a moral and potentially legal quagmire as insurgent LIV Golf challenges professional golf's ecosystem.

Dustin Johnson lines up a putt on Friday at the 2022 British Open.

Dustin Johnson is LIV Golf's highest-ranked player in the world and highest on the leaderboard at the British Open.

Rob Schumacher/USA Today

The war is foremost about control, money, and power in the professional game . More specifically, it’s the DP World Tour and PGA Tour vs. LIV Golf.

In Friday’s second round of the 150th Open Championship, Dustin Johnson shot a 5-under 67 and with that performance put LIV Golf squarely in the spotlight.

The establishment has feared that a LIV golfer could not only contend, but possibly win a major championship.  Such a victory would lend credence that LIV is not exhibition golf, as Tiger Woods said, but that its 54-hole, shotgun start has actually been good preparation for championship golf.

“But what these players are doing for guaranteed money, what is the incentive to practice?” Woods said, criticizing LIV Golf in his Open championship press conference on Tuesday . “What is the incentive to go out there and earn it in the dirt? You're just getting paid a lot of money up front and playing a few events and playing 54 holes. They're playing blaring music and have all these atmospheres that are different.”

Positive attention for LIV at a major-championship venue would be unacceptable to the ecosystem, and it would counter some of the negative comments from the players like Woods and McIlroy.

Johnson is one of the original members to join LIV, and his jump from the PGA Tour to LIV was one of the biggest prizes for the nascent tour.

His performance on Friday at the Old Course moved the two-time major winner into the clubhouse lead and when the dust settled in the second round, in the third-to-final group and four shots back.

It was a shot across the bow in a war that already has had many battles with many more on the horizon.

Ahead of Johnson are two of the game’s young stars in Cameron Smith and Cameron Young, players that the PGA Tour is counting on to replace and solidify its value and strengthen fields that have taken somewhat of a hit as LIV golfers have departed.

Tied and paired with Johnson is newly minted Masters champion Scottie Scheffler , creating a pairing that, for many, might highlight the good vs. evil theme.

Of course, individually neither man is necessarily good or evil, but they represent groups that are considered good and evil.

For the sake of argument, Scheffler, who represents the traditional tours and the current ecosystem, will be characterized by most as the good, and the revolutionary LIV and its players as evil.

Talor Gooch, another LIV golfer on the leaderboard, would argue that.

“Everybody, it feels like, is against us, and that's OK,” Gooch said after a 3-under 69 that kept him in contention at 7 under. “It's kind of banded us together, I think.”

Neither Johnson nor Scheffler will be wearing boxing gloves or brandishing weapons. But two organizations that are opposites in their stance on what pro golf should be will be represented by players duking it out on Saturday in the third round of the Open.

The winner, if there is one, will have won a small battle in a war that continues to grow in fury as more PGA Tour players jump to LIV. More players will almost surely defect to LIV after the Open and again after the FedEx Cup concludes at the end of August.

In a good story, it’s never clear until the very end if good or evil triumphs.

That will be true after the third round as well, but one thing is clear: if Johnson, Gooch or any other LIV Golfer wins the Claret Jug this week, it will be not only a big story, but also propel LIV Golf to new heights. Others may start to wonder if LIV is a rebellion, or the new ecosystem itself.

Neil Young concert review: Rock icon brings raw power to Forest Hills

Mother Nature has a sneaky sense of humor.

On Tuesday, May 14, she tested Neil Young and his band Crazy Horse at Forest Hills Stadium when a light rain came down during their raucous ‘Love Earth’ concert. At other outdoor shows, this minor inconvenience might have put a damper on the evening; everyone knows wearing ponchos is never cool. However, on an eco-friendly, earth-loving night such as this, the drizzle was a welcome reminder to not only be present but also appreciate the simple pleasures the planet has to offer.

More than anything though, the sprinkle added a bit of texture to the 78-year-old Young’s inimitable guitar talents and otherworldly, warbly vocals at the tennis stadium turned concert venue.

Over the course of the warm yet wet evening, the Godfather of Grunge ripped through 16 songs — a handful of hits and a slew of deep cuts — in a set shortened by his entertaining, eccentric opening act Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping going a tad long (the preacher sermonized about “the earth coming into us”) and unexpected technical difficulties.

Let’s start at the beginning of Neil’s set, though.

To kick things off, Young humbly ambled onstage with the imposing “crazy horse” large looming large on a backdrop behind him. Never one for grandiosity, the Toronto native wore a baseball cap and jean jacket. If he wasn’t one of the world’s most gifted musicians, one might have mistaken him for a trucker emerging from a rest stop bathroom.

The two-time Rock Hall of Fame inductee — recognized for his solo work and Buffalo Springfield tenure — quickly jumped into his downbeat 1975 classic “Cortez The Killer.” For the next ten or so minutes, Young and Crazy Horse delivered their trademark searing, unassuming sound. 49 years later, the quartet sounded just as fresh and dripping with raw, authentic power as when the track appeared on “Zuma” nearly a half-century ago.

Only one question remained as the guitars soared for the first few minutes of the song: was Young’s unmistakable voice the same at 78-years-old?

In a word, yes.

As soon as Neil sang “He came dancing across the water,” the enthusiastic crowd knew they were in for a treat. Young sounded just like he did in his heyday; nothing had changed. Neil Young is still Neil Young. This is a good thing.

“Cinnamon Girl,” the lead track on 1969’s “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” came next and fans burst into applause after the first few strings. Bassist Billy Talbot and drummer Ralph Molina — who have been with Crazy Horse since 1968 — along with Willie Nelson’s son Micah on guitar, shredded the feel-good jam as the wall of sound their guitars produced bled throughout the unique venue.

After that, Young dipped into his plaintive ’90s rocker “Scattered (Let’s Think About Livin’)” with its catchy refrain “I’m a little bit high/I’m a little bit low,” which made for an easy singalong. In between songs, onstage banter was minimal; twice, Neil asked “How’s everyone doing” and “What’s your favorite planet” before slipping back into the music.

It was always all about the music for Neil.

While he is known for timeless hits like “Old Man,” “Ohio,” “After The Goldrush,” “Harvest Moon” and the 1982 oddity “Transformer Man,” Young refused to dip into that well. Instead, he opted for the sludgy, grunge-country rock opera “Like A Hurricane,” sadly sweet “Don’t Cry No Tears” and imposing, soulful “Vampire Blues” next.

Young made it clear — this is a show for real fans (and possibly himself); those who have only heard his Greatest Hits album can check their bags at the door.

That being said, later in the show, Young made sure to pay their respects to fair-weather admirers when the backing band took a break and he came back out all by his lonesome with an acoustic guitar and harmonica.

For a moment, the rock portion of the show was over; now, the spotlight shone solely on Young and he delivered three melancholy country gems. First, his simple “Comes A Time” settled the crowd. Following a bit of polite applause, Neil dove into the famous “Heart of Gold” harmonica riff. Nearly everyone sang along in the night’s most unified moment which felt more like a campfire jamboree than a concert. It was raining and we were all right there with Neil “searching for a heart of gold.” Beautiful. This is why you go to live shows. This, this, this.

Unfortunately, as the night came to a close the sound system shorted out a handful of times. First, it was during his final acoustic song “Human Highway.” Then, when Crazy Horse came back to rock out to “Hey, Hey, My My” problems persisted.

“Nothing is under control,” Nelson quipped.

Just when it seemed as if the show was over, Young and co. came back for a two-song encore; first up was the punky “Sedan Delivery” and finally his 1989 anthem “Rockin’ In The Free World.”

The lights came on; the show was over.

Everyone returned to their smartphones, most were checking the Knicks score. For a few hours though, Neil and Mother Nature brought us all together to ‘Love Earth.’ That might have been their sneakiest trick of all.

Final verdict: Whether you love Neil for his unfiltered rockers or sensitive country ballads, the ‘Love Earth Tour’ will satisfy all your Neil Young needs as he makes sure to spend time in both of his equally powerful soundscapes.

According to Set List FM , here’s what Young performed at Forest Hills Stadium on Tuesday, May 14:

01.) “Cortez the Killer”

02.) “Cinnamon Girl”

03.) “Scattered (Let’s Think About Livin’)”

04.) “Like a Hurricane”

05.) “Don’t Cry No Tears”

06.) “Vampire Blues”

07.) “The Losing End (When You’re On)”

08.) “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere”

09.) “Powderfinger”

10.) “Love and Only Love”

11.) “Comes a Time”

12.) “Heart of Gold”

13.) “Human Highway”

14.) “Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)”

15.) “Sedan Delivery”

16.) “Rockin’ in the Free World”

On April 26, Young released his 46th album, the nine-track “FU##IN’ UP,” which features live versions of classic cuts from Young’s storied catalog.

“In the spirit it’s offered, (we) made this for the Horse lovers,” he shared. “I can’t stop it. The horse is runnin’. What a ride we have. I don’t want to mess with the vibe. I am so happy to have this to share.”

None of the songs on the record were performed at the show we attended but, in typical Young fashion, they rock. Hard.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, you can give “FU##IN’ UP” a spin here .

For our money, Forest Hills Stadium is one of New York’s premier concert destinations.

Located in the heart of the cozy Queens neighborhood off the E, M, F and R train, the venue is perfect for live music; it’s otherworldly when it gets dark at the open-air space. “Magical” isn’t a word we throw around lightly here but there’s no better way to describe a nighttime show at the 13,000-seat tennis stadium.

In order to get there, you’ll have to walk with throngs of fans — depending on how crowded the show you attend is — for a few blocks through neighborhood streets until you reach the tennis stadium. Make sure you have your tickets pulled up when you arrive, they’ll be checking at the gate.

Once inside, you’ll see food options for days. It’s highly likely they’ll all have lines that stretch 15-30 customers deep. Skip those. Go farther into the venue and you’ll be able to grab your food or drink, hassle-free.

Now that you have your goodies, it’s time to enter the concert area. While walking in, you’ll notice something. It gets eerily quiet out of nowhere. Don’t worry, you aren’t the only person experiencing this phenomenon. Signs read “These walls were specifically designed to minimize the sound that reaches our neighbors across the street.” Groovy.

Climb to your seat and watch tennis being played behind the stage (depending on your view); it’s a sight to behold.

Young isn’t the only star who took the world by storm in the ’60s and ’70s performing live this year.

Here are just five of our favorite classic rockers you won’t want to miss in concert these next few months.

•  Rolling Stones

•  Robert Plant with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson

•  David Gilmour

•  Ringo Starr

•  Electric Light Orchestra

2024 PGA Championship live stream, where to watch: TV coverage, channel, Tiger Woods in Round 2, schedule

Watch every single shot from tiger woods and the biggest names in golf throughout round 2 at valhalla.

tiger-woods-2024-pga-g.png

The 2024 PGA Championship is underway with three days of pristine golf remaining at one of the nation's best courses. The action in Louisville continues Friday with Round 2 at Valhalla Golf Club offering an opportunity for some of the best golfers in the world to streak up the leaderboard ahead of the weekend.

It did not start without controversy, though, as world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler was arrested outside Valhalla for disobeying a police officer in a traffic-related incident only to be released less than 90 minutes before his rescheduled tee time. This came after a  pedestrian was hit by a shuttle bus and killed outside the Valhalla grounds in an unrelated  circumstance.

Expectations of a three-horse race atop the PGA Championship will continue unabated as Scheffler, Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy -- each of whom won their last two starts on their respective tours -- are all heavily in contention. Still, all three are looking up at Xander Schauffele, who tied a major championship record and set a PGA Championship-best mark with an opening-round 62. McIlroy is the closest at four shots back with Scheffler and Koepka both five off the lead.

Given how much talent in the field, whoever ultimately prevails at Valhalla will surely earn the Wanamaker Trophy and a winner's share that should approach $3 million once it is officially announced by the PGA this weekend.

All eyes will also be on Tiger Woods, who sits below the projected cutline simply because he did not go as low as everyone else. Woods is attempting to play 72 holes at the PGA Championship for the first time since 2020. Phil Mickelson is also seeking to prove that his 2021 PGA was not an aberration but rather proof that he still has game left in his bag; unfortunately, Lefty will have to put together a tremendous round just to play the weekend.

There is so much to follow this week that it can be overwhelming at times. No worries, though, we have you covered. CBS Sports is offering live coverage of the 2024 PGA Championship from start to finish Friday along with live streaming of the tournament over the weekend. The ragged glory of neil young and crazy horse live.

Hear 11 songs from an electrifying New York set this week.

A wavy pink line.

By Lindsay Zoladz

Dear listeners,

On Tuesday night, at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, I checked a major box on my musical bucket list: I got to see Neil Young live for the first time. And not just Young, but also Crazy Horse , his longtime, magnificently shambolic backing band who more or less helped invent both grunge and the modern jam band. Young’s first New York concert in over a decade was a magical, rain-dappled night, and I have tried to preserve the memory by creating a playlist of highlights from the set.

There has always been something outside-of-time about the ironically named Young, a man who has in some sense sung and written like an old man since he was a teenager. (I mean that in the most affectionate way possible.) Perhaps for that reason, it is less jarring to see him onstage at age 78 than it is some other rock legends, and it helps that he has preserved that distinct, one-of-a-kind vocal tone along with his dexterity as a guitarist. The crowd was noticeably intergenerational, like the band onstage: Replacing Crazy Horse’s now-retired rhythm guitarist Poncho Sampedro was Willie Nelson’s 33-year-old son, Micah, who beautifully and steadily supported Young’s incandescent soloing.

Fitting for a band that embraces improvisational spontaneity, Tuesday night’s stop on the Love Earth tour was actually more memorable for its technical difficulties and the way Young handled them. The trouble began at the end of a three-song stretch where Young played solo, accompanied by just his acoustic guitar and harmonica. During a rousing rendition of the 1978 ballad “Human Highway,” a P.A. seemed to blow out, cutting off Young’s amplification entirely. His vocal mic was still wonky when a tech handed him an electric guitar, so he proceeded to do one of the most badass things I’ve ever seen a 78-year-old do at a rock concert: raise his guitar to his mouth and communicate with the crowd through its pickup. “We’d like to thank everyone for being here tonight,” he said in a muffled warble. Rock ’n’ roll can never die, indeed.

Relive Tuesday night’s show along with me — and celebrate Young’s recent return to Spotify — by listening to this playlist, culled entirely from songs played that night. I’ve mixed in some live tracks along with album versions, to better capture the ragged glory of Neil and the Horse. Come down from the misty mountain and press play.

Shelter me from the powder and the finger,

Listen along while you read.

1. neil young and crazy horse: “cortez the killer (live)”.

Young and Crazy Horse have opened most of the Love Earth shows with this oft- covered epic from the 1975 album “Zuma,” establishing that the set list will be full of classics. Notably, on this tour for the first time ever, Young has been performing “Cortez” with its so-called “lost verse” — an infamous victim of a power outage during the “Zuma” sessions — which makes these performances particularly special to die-hard fans. (Shout out to the guy desperately yelling “Powderfinger!!!” at the beginning of this live version. Not yet, buddy!) ▶ Listen on Spotify , Apple Music or YouTube

2. Neil Young and Crazy Horse: “Cinnamon Girl”

What made the set list flow so fluidly was the way it juxtaposed gloriously ambling jam sessions with sudden bursts of taut rock, like when the sludgy, dirge-like “Cortez” gave way to this indelible three-minute opener from Young’s first album with the Horse, “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” from 1969. The one-note guitar solo really popped.

3. Neil Young and Crazy Horse: “Scattered (Let’s Think About Livin’)”

In more recent years, Young’s shows have often leaned heavily on recently released material. So it’s saying something that the “newest” song he played on Tuesday night was this poignant mid-tempo number from the 1996 album “Broken Arrow.” It was written as a tribute to the band’s longtime producer David Briggs, who died in 1995, and at Forest Hills, Young dedicated the song to his memory: “We like to think about him, because it centers us a bit.”

4. Neil Young and Crazy Horse: “Don’t Cry No Tears”

Another one from “Zuma,” this jangly pop-rocker was adapted from “I Wonder,” a song Young wrote as a teenager and later released on the first volume of his archives project.

5. Neil Young: “Vampire Blues”

The night’s biggest surprise was this deep cut from Young’s great, admirably uncompromising 1974 solo album, “On the Beach.” Its caustic sendup of the oil industry — “I’m a vampire, babe, sell you 20 barrels worth” — is quite appropriate for a tour called Love Earth and, sadly, is as relevant today as it was 50 years ago.

6. Neil Young and Crazy Horse: “The Losing End (When You’re On)”

This country-rocker from “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” prompted one of the night’s most satisfying crowd singalongs.

7. Neil Young and Crazy Horse: “Powderfinger”

Guy desperately yelling “Powderfinger”: Your time has come. Any time Young and Crazy Horse play this blazing elegy — which many people, including this one, believe to be one of his finest songs — it’s going to be a highlight, and Tuesday night’s set was no exception. There is a particular delight in hearing Young, nearing 80, sing the line, “And I just turned 22.”

8. Neil Young and Crazy Horse: “Comes a Time (Live)”

The mood turned muted and intimate when Young switched to an acoustic guitar for a solo portion of the set, beginning with this pensive title track from his 1978 album (performed here on 1979’s “Live Rust”).

9. Neil Young: “Human Highway”

The bad news: The sound system cut out about two minutes into this one. The good news: Young diffused the awkward moment by doing a funny little jig.

10. Neil Young and Crazy Horse: “Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)”

Sound problems continued through this one, but it lent an air of extra defiance to the lyric “Rock ’n’ roll will never die.” (I have a new appreciation for this song after last year finally getting to see “Out of the Blue,” the hard-to-find, outrageously unsparing 1980 Dennis Hopper flick for which it was written. Linda Manz forever!)

11. Neil Young and Crazy Horse: “Sedan Delivery”

Finally, the encore began with this punky, tempo-shifting track from the 1979 album “Rust Never Sleeps.” “It’s hard to find a job,” Young growls toward the end. Judging from this splendid set, though, he won’t need to look for a new one any time soon.

Bonus Tracks

I’m really enjoying Billie Eilish ’s new album “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” which comes out today. Jon Pareles digs it too: He named it a Critic’s Pick, in a review that also added the word “prolix” to my vocabulary.

Olivia Rodrigo live in London: quite possibly 2024’s most fun tour

May 14, The O2: The 'Guts' tour rolls into the UK with a show so exciting, you’d be sick to your stomach to have missed it

The last time Olivia Rodrigo played at The O2 arena in London, she was still wearing her L plates. Her performance of ‘Driver’s License’ at the 2021 Brit Awards was her first-ever live performance, broadcast on national television and to her peers – it can be brutal in here. Tonight (May 14), she arrives bolshy, brilliant and occasionally chaotic; time as a teenager moves quickly, recklessly, and now, three years later aged 21, she knows that better than most.

Heading to see the ‘ Guts ‘ World Tour is akin to catching a big summer blockbuster on the silver screen. It rolls into town, dominating discourse, and much of tonight’s key set-pieces and have already been shared – extensively – on social media feeds and Instagram’s For You tab since the tour kicked off in the US earlier this spring. The two exceptions are Olivia’s personalised messages on her white tank-top – “Bad idea, innit?” – and a brief wardrobe malfunction during ‘Love Is Embarrassing’; “I almost just flashed you! That’s so embarrassing,” she laughs at the song’s conclusion.

  • Read more – Olivia Rodrigo: “It’s important for me to be taken seriously as a songwriter”

Much like her pop contemporaries, Rodrigo’s shows offer a refuge from the outside pressures of the world, a message that resonates with her young crowd (and a few parents who relish the chance to show up their child on the big screen.) “If I was giving my 18 year-old advice,” she says, “it’d be to not worry so much.” This show thrives when it, in fact, worries way too much: opening gambit ‘Bad Idea, Right?’, ‘Ballad Of A Homeschooled Girl’ and ‘Brutal’ are lovingly neurotic, punchy and large in their arena-sized execution. ‘All-American Bitch’ flips the script from self-loathing to some well-deserved finger pointing at societal expectations for young women: “I don’t get angry when I’m pissed / I’m the eternal optimist”.

young liv tour

Hitting arenas on only your second album does come with drawbacks. There are a few too many deep cuts that don’t quite fill the room, though ‘Lacy’ and ‘Jealousy, Jealousy’ fare better than rest, as do debut album cuts ‘Traitor’ and ‘Favourite Crime’. The staging throughout is impressive and eye-catching, including a moment that features Rodrigo riding on the crescent of a large half-moon that’s suspended through the crowd. The general hue of purple throughout the venue – on sparkling cowboy hats and feather boas – could well have turned green with the envy at the core of breakup anthems ‘Good 4 U’ and ‘Deja Vu’, two undeniable highlights.

It’s the songs that pick at the deepest wounds that resonate with tonight’s crowd. ‘Vampire’’s stunning build from a piano ballad to jaunty clap-back to the people who should know better is one of many howl-along moments. The raw regret of ‘Drivers Licence’ brought her to this venue a few years ago, but now, it’s sung with both the lived experience and confidence that comes only from someone who’s moved on to even bigger and better things; there’s no denying that Rodrigo has certainly done that and will continue to do so.

Olivia Rodrigo played:

‘Bad Idea Right?’ ‘Ballad Of A Homeschooled Girl’ ‘Vampire’ ‘Traitor’ ‘Drivers License’ ‘Teenage Dream’ ‘Pretty Isn’t Pretty’ ‘Love Is Embarrassing’ ‘Making The Bed’ ‘Logical’ ‘Enough For You’ ‘Lacy’ ‘So American’ ‘Jealousy, Jealousy’ ‘Happier’ ‘Favorite Crime’ ‘Deja Vu’ ‘The Grudge’ ‘Brutal’ ‘Obsessed’ ‘All-American Bitch’ ‘Good 4 U’ ‘Get Him Back!’
