About the festival headliner - Sammy Hagar & The Circle

Samuel Roy Hagar (born October 13, 1947), also known as The Red Rocker, is an American rock vocalist, guitarist, songwriter, musician and entrepreneur. Hagar came to prominence in the 1970s with the hard rock band Montrose. He afterwards launched a successful solo career, scoring an enduring hit in 1984 with "I Can't Drive 55". He enjoyed huge commercial success when he replaced David Lee Roth as the lead singer of Van Halen in 1985, but left the band in 1996. He returned to the band for a 2-year reunion from 2003 to 2005. On March 12, 2007, Hagar was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Van Halen. His musical style primarily consists of hard rock and heavy metal. Also a businessman, he founded the Cabo Wabo Tequila brand and restaurant chain, as well as Sammy's Beach Bar Rum. His current musical projects include being the lead singer of Chickenfoot and The Circle.

Floating rock festival for a cause aboard Royal Caribbean International’s, Independence of the Seas, February 22-February 26, 2024 from Miami, FL

The Independence of the Seas from Royal Caribbean is one of the biggest, fastest and most luxurious passenger vessels in service today, served by a crew of 1365 on 15 decks. With a gross tonnage of 154,407, it can truly be said that the rock-themed benefit voyage will be a “heavy” experience for both bands and fans. The ship, almost as long as four football fields, cruises at 21.6 knots and is scheduled for a port stop in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.

The main attraction of the cruise is, of course, multiple performances by the Rock Legends bands aboard. The ship offers no fewer than three performance venues for Rock Legends Cruise bands: The Deck, The Platinum Theater and Studio B/Ice Rink. All artists will perform 2-3 shows, festival style and a schedule of performances will be released closer to the sail date. This format will allow individuals to come and go between venues to see different bands. Our aim is to allow each and every Rock Legends Cruise passenger to have an opportunity, over the course of the voyage, to see the bands they wish to see. The ship also features on-board surfing thanks to its FlowRider wave generator, a full-sized volleyball/basketball court, cantilevered whirlpools and range of gourmet restaurants.

The grandeur of the Rock Legends Cruise was evident from the moment attendees stepped on board. Luxury cruise liners, renowned for their opulent amenities, were transformed into veritable temples of rock. With the Miami skyline fading into the horizon, the deep blue ocean became the audience for this high-seas concert.

True to its name, Rock Legends Cruise boasted a lineup that was a dream come true for rock aficionados. Thanks to avid fans online, we were recently reminded of these 11 icons of the north. Get your favorite music app open. You won’t want to miss having these artists in the rotation if they’re not there already.

As forum members often say, “I can’t believe this is so far down.” Rush is mentioned halfway through the conversation, and I was surprised. This is one of the most iconic rock bands in history, and while Rush officially finished in 2018, they’ve left us with a vast back catalog, including classics such as “The Spirit of Radio” and “Tom Sawyer.'”

Alanis Morissette

Alanis Morrissette may never match the commercial success of Jagged Little Pill, her unforgettable album release from 1995. She is, however, still recording, and several commenters urge us to listen to more of her material.

Gordon Lightfoot

Sadly, it needed the death of Gordon Lightfoot in 2023 to bring this forgotten artist back into public consciousness. However, it reminded us that he wrote and performed one of the greatest love songs ever – “If You Could Read My Mind.”

Scenic Route to Alaska

The original poster puts forward these alternative rockers from Edmonton. I’d not come across Scenic Route to Alaska, and it’s not the first suggestion many would have expected. However, the first few listens are promising, and this is a great band to kick off the discussion.

Martha and the Muffins

The person who suggested Martha and the Muffins added three exclamation marks, which means they may not have been entirely serious. Thanks to the 1980 song “Echo Beach,” they will be remembered as one-hit wonders, but they have a vast discography with eight studio albums to check out.

A singer-songwriter cited as an influence by so many artists, I was surprised that Neil Young didn’t receive more support in this discussion. He’s mentioned in passing on brief occasions with no backup comments, so maybe he’s overlooked by the younger generation, or perhaps we’re all taking this stunning artist for granted.

The Flatliners

One poster from Canada was surprised to learn that this was a native band. Punk rockers The Flatliners were formed in 2002 and have built up a loyal fanbase, even if they’ve gone under the radar outside North America. That individual states that Canada is “fortunate with our music scene, that’s for sure.”

Alexisonfire

I now realize there is so much more to the Canadian music scene than I first thought. Alexisonfire is another band that receives several mentions on the thread, even if one poster struggles to describe them. Alexisonfire is referred to as “sort of an emo band, but not emo,” which is confusing yet intriguing.

I have to throw in my suggestion, even if I wasn’t backed up on the thread. Lee Aaron’s glamorous image and overt lyrics mean she wasn’t always taken seriously. I would argue that she’s an incredible singer, and her songs, including “Metal Queen,” are up there with the best of any female rock vocalist.

Bryan Adams

Does anybody still like Bryan Adams? His absence from the discussion suggests not. Maybe we’re all too cool to listen to his music now, but for many of us, songs such as “Run to You” and “Summer of ’69” were part of our essential 80s soundtrack.
