CR-V Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation

Infotainment is one of the CR-V’s few weaknesses. Most rivals have more standard infotainment features, such as touch screens and smartphone connectivity. Those features come in all trims but the base trim of this Honda, but even when equipped with the better infotainment system, you’ll find that the menu layouts aren’t intuitive and the response times are slow, making the system frustrating to use.

The CR-V features a 190-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The turbo-four provides great acceleration, both from a stop and at higher speeds, and the transmission operates smoothly.

Not many competitors can match the CR-V’s fuel economy ratings. It gets 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway in front-wheel-drive models and 27/32 mpg city/highway in all-wheel-drive models.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2022 Honda CR-V an overall safety rating of five out of five stars, with five stars in the frontal and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover test.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the 2022 CR-V the highest rating of Good in five crash tests and the second-highest rating of Acceptable in the side crash test. Lower trims received the second-lowest rating of Marginal for how well the headlights illuminate the road ahead, while the Touring trim earned the highest rating of Good for forward visibility.

The IIHS uses a different scale for grading collision avoidance features. The CR-V received the highest rating of Superior for its standard front crash prevention systems.

Which Honda CR-V Model Is Right for Me?

The 2022 Honda CR-V comes in five trims: LX, Special Edition, EX, EX-L, and Touring. All models come standard with a 190-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive is standard. All-wheel drive is optional in every trim – except the Touring, which comes with all-wheel drive – for $1,500.

Though the base model comes with plenty of active safety features, it’s worth stepping up to the Special Edition or EX trims, which come with many more infotainment and comfort features.

The CR-V EX starts at $28,260. The EX gains a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a moonroof, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, additional USB ports, HD Radio, and satellite radio.

Honda CR-V EX-L

The CR-V EX-L costs $30,850. Standard features include leather upholstery, a power-adjustable passenger seat, a power liftgate, and an eight-speaker stereo.

Honda CRV: How to Set Cruise Control

Cruise control is a cool way to put your Honda CRV on autopilot so to speak. In this setting, the vehicle can maintain speeds of 25mph or more without having to press the accelerator. However, it will not set at below 25mph. In addition, the feature disconnects when the brake is applied. Albeit this is a wonderful feature, be aware that cruise control can be dangerous on winding roads, in traffic, and on wet slippery or icy roads. With that being said, here are the uncomplicated steps to follow to set your Cruise Control.

Enable Cruise Control:

• When your vehicle speed has reached 25mph or faster, press the MAIN button located on the RIGHT side of the steering wheel.
• An ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) icon will appear in the dash screen to notify you that the system is ready for you to use.
• Once you have reached the speed you want to set, press the -SET button.
• To INCREASE the speed press the RES+ button.
• To DECREASE the speed press the -SET.

3 Options To Cancel Cruise Control:

• Press the CANCEL button in the MIDDLE of the steering wheel.
• Press the MAIN button.
• Press the BRAKE pedal.

*Pressing the DISTANCE button located to the RIGHT of the cancel button will RE-ENGAGE your previous cruise control settings.

• Main (On/Off) – Press to turn the system ON/OFF; Be sure the system is OFF when not using it, as if RES/+ or -SET is active, you could accidentally hit either, which will cause your vehicle to enter cruise control mode
• SET/− (Set/Coast) – Used to set or decrease your desired speed
• RES/+ – To maintain the desired speed or to accelerate the set speed. To increase the speed press this button. Each press will increase the speed at 1 mph faster.

**NOTE: If you are unable to activate this feature on the first try, REPEAT the steps. If you are still unsuccessful, contact the dealership for assistance or consult your vehicle user’s manual.

ACC Conditions and Limitations

• On roads with frequent lane-change or continuous stop and go traffic. ACC cannot keep an appropriate distance between your vehicle and vehicle ahead of you.
• On roads with sharp turns.
• On roads with toll collection facilities or other objects between lanes of traffic, or in parking areas, or facilities with drive through access.
• On roads with bad weather (rain, fog, snow, etc.), ACC may not detect the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you properly.
• On roads with slippery or icy surfaces. The wheels may spin out and your vehicle may lose the control on the condition.
• On roads with steep uphill or steep downhill slopes.
• On roads with undulating slopes.

How to activate the system

To Set the Vehicle Speed

Take your foot off the pedal and press the RES/+ / SET/− switch up or down when you reach the desired speed. The moment you release the switch, the set speed is fixed, and ACC begins.

• Models with B-type meter

When ACC starts operating, the vehicle icon, interval bars and set speed appear on the gauge.

When you use ACC, Straight Driving Assist (a feature of the Electric Power Steering system) is activated. By enabling the steering system to automatically compensate for natural steering pull, Straight Driving Assist makes it easier for you to keep your vehicle in a straight line.

Customized Features

When in Operation

• The vehicle ahead of you is going at almost the same speed as, or faster than, your vehicle.
• A vehicle that cuts in front of you is going faster than your vehicle, gradually increasing the interval between the vehicles.

• When the vehicle ahead of you moves away, such as when entering an interchange or rest area, ACC may continue to maintain the set following-interval for a short time.

There is a vehicle ahead

ACC monitors if a vehicle ahead of you enters the ACC range. If a vehicle is detected doing so, the ACC system maintains or decelerates your vehicle’s set speed in order to keep the vehicle’s set following-interval from the vehicle ahead.

To Set or Change Following-interval

When a vehicle whose speed is slower than your set speed is detected in front of you, your vehicle starts to slow down.

There is no vehicle ahead

On steep downhill during ACC, it brakes to inhibit excessive acceleration for maintaining the set speed. However the vehicle speed may become faster than the set speed.

When you depress the accelerator pedal

The system may automatically shut off under certain conditions. Some examples of these conditions are listed below. Other conditions may reduce some of the ACC functions.

Environmental conditions

• Driving in bad weather (rain, fog, snow, etc.).
• Sudden changes between light and dark, such as the entrance or exit of a tunnel or the shadows of trees, buildings, etc.
• Strong light is reflected onto vehicles or road surfaces.
• Water is sprayed by or snow blown from a vehicle ahead.
• Driving at night or in a dark place such as a tunnel (due to low-light conditions, the whole vehicle may not be illuminated).
• Driving into low sunlight (e.g., at dawn or dusk).

Roadway conditions

• Driving on rutted roads (snowy or unpaved roads, etc.).
• Puddles or a film of water is on the road surface.
• Your vehicle is strongly shaken on uneven road surfaces.

Vehicle conditions

• The vehicle is tilted due to heavy load in the trunk or rear seats.
• Tire chains are installed.
• The front of the camera is covered by dirt, fog, rain, mud, wet snow, seals, accessories, stickers, or film of the windshield.
• Driving at night or in a dark place (e.g., a tunnel) with the headlights off.
• There is residue on the windshield from the windshield wipers.
• When lighting is weak due to dirt covering the headlight lenses, or there is poor visibility in a dark place due to the headlights being improperly adjusted.
• An abnormal tire or wheel condition (incorrect sizes, varied sizes or construction, improperly inflated, compact spare tire*, etc.).
• The suspension has been modified.

Examples of conditions under which the camera may not correctly detect the vehicle ahead of you

• A vehicle suddenly crosses in front of you.
• The interval between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you is too short.
• When the vehicle ahead of you blends in with the background, preventing the system from recognizing it.
• The headlights of the vehicle ahead of you are lit on one side or not lit on either side in a dark place.

Examples of conditions under which the system may not work properly

• A vehicle ahead of you stops and the speed difference between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you is significantly large.
• When the vehicle ahead of you slows suddenly.
• When a vehicle ahead of you is specially-shaped.

• When your vehicle or the vehicle ahead of you is driving on the edge of the lane.
• When the vehicle ahead of you is a narrow vehicle such as a motorcycle.
• When the minimum ground clearance of a vehicle ahead of you is extremely high.
• When the camera cannot correctly identify the shape of the vehicle ahead of you.

To Adjust the Vehicle Speed

Increase or decrease the vehicle speed using the RES/+ / SET/− switch on the steering wheel.

• Each time you press the RES/+ / SET/− switch up or down, the vehicle speed is increased or decreased by about 1 mph or 1 km/h accordingly.
• If you keep the RES/+ / SET/− switch pressed up or down, the vehicle speed increases or decreases by about 5 mph or 5 km/h accordingly.

Press the Interval button to change the ACC following-interval. Each time you press the button, the following-interval (the interval behind a vehicle detected ahead of you) setting cycles through furthest, far, mid, and nearest following-intervals.

Determine the most appropriate following-interval setting based on your specific driving conditions. Be sure to adhere to any following-interval requirements set by local regulation.

The higher your vehicle’s following-speed is, the longer the nearest, mid, far or furthest following-interval becomes. See the following examples for your reference.

Automatic cancellation

The beeper sounds and a message appears on the driver information interface when ACC is automatically canceled. Any of these conditions may cause the ACC to automatically cancel:

• Bad weather (rain, fog, snow, etc.)
• The vehicle ahead of you cannot be detected.
• An abnormal tire condition is detected, or the tires are skidding.
• Driving on a mountainous road, or driving off road for extended periods.
• Abrupt steering wheel movement.
• When the ABS, VSA ® , CMBS TM or Low Speed Braking Control* is activated.
• When the VSA ® system indicator comes on.
• When the vehicle is stopped on a very steep slope.
• When you manually apply the parking brake.
• When vehicle speed is less than 22 mph (35 km/h).
• When the detected vehicle within the ACC range is too close to your vehicle.
• When accelerating rapidly.
• The front of the camera is covered by dirt, fog, rain, mud, wet snow, seals, accessories, stickers, or film on the windshield.
• The engine is turned off.
• The vehicle is loaded heavy load in the trunk or rear seats.
• When passing through a dark place, such as tunnel.
• When the parking brake and brake system indicator (amber) comes on.
• The vehicle has repeatedly applied the brakes to maintain the set speed (for example, you are descending a long slope).
• When the system doesn't detect any driving actions from the driver for a certain amount of time while the LKAS is also activated.
• Ignoring shift down indication shown in the gauge will cancel the ACC after about 10 seconds.
• The engine speed goes into the tachometer red zone.
• The engine speed goes to below 1,000 rpm.
• You shift into neutral temporarily when shifting into a higher or lower gear.
• When the transmission is put into N without depressing the clutch pedal.

To Switch ACC to Cruise Control

• Green: The system is on.
• White: The system is standby.

• When the vehicle speed is set.
• When ACC is not activated.

When to use

Desired speed in a range above roughly 25 mph (40 km/h).

To cancel cruise control, do any of the following:

Adaptive Cruise Control Problem

Our 2022 CRV EX-L throws a message "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem" with non-stop beeping whenever the car has been sitting in a hot parking lot. After perhaps 30-45 minutes it appears to cool down and returns to normal. Local dealer says says this is normal??? WTF????? What other make/model has this as a "normal" feature??? Since it does not throw a computer error code they say they can't fix it! Any similar experiences and possible real fixes?

Are you using a windshield visor that doesn’t have the cut out for the camera? Another member has recently brought this issue up and that was the culprit. I have the Weather Tech windshield visor with the cut out for the camera and have never had that issue. If that isn’t your problem I would suggest going to another dealership because that’s not normal.  

• Keep taking it in until you rack up the number of required visits for a lemon law claim.
• Complain to Honda Corporate.
• Take it to another dealer.
• Ask the dealer to walk with you to one of their new cars that has been sitting in the sun all day to show you how normal it is.

Would turning off the function eliminate the beeping?

We have the same exact experience with our 2021 CRV Hybrid. Exact same problem. We have taken to two different dealers and b/c there’s no code, they say they can’t do anything. I got Honda Service to keep the car for a couple of days to replicate the issue. They provided another 2022 CR-V as a loaner. They came back and said it was a faulty camera module and were ordering a replacement. Of course its on back order.  

As noted in other discussions in the forum on the same issue... .the camera is where the issue rests, and the camera does have thermal sensors in it to shut the camera down if it gets too hot. Why shut it down if it gets too hot? Well, heat at some degree will likely cause the calibration of the camera to fail, which means it would report wrong data to the HondaSensing system in the vehicle. Better to have no driving safety data, rather than wrong data. Under normal operation this is generally not an issue, but it could be in very hot weather with the front glass facing the sun, and particularly if you are using a sunshade in the front glass (which can block the passive vent ports in the plastic housing that covers the camera and mirror attach points). I see that in a subsequent post you noted the dealer determined the camera to be bad, but that may in fact not be actually true, just that they decided to replace the camera out of an abundance of suspicion and not wanting to see the vehicle keep coming in for the same issue.  

I'm not sure it is the camera. The dealer changed the camera on September 2022. It worked well for 2 months and now the ACC is not working. Bad Omen.  

Surely you should have warranty? Worth going back to your dealer and notify them so a replacement can be supplied. Let us know how you get on.

W ith more than just a new face, the 2023 Honda CR-V ranked as number two in our lineup of 2023 compact SUVs with its Civic-inspired cabin , a spacious interior and strong safety scores. What we didn't like? Top features that were locked to the hybrid, no LX trim initially, and the rather small 7-inch touchscreen in the EX trim. For 2024, it seems that Honda has listened by continuing the entry level LX, but has also brought about a new Sport-L trim in 2WD and AWD. What has this done for the price of the 2024 CR-V? We're glad you asked.

2024 Honda CR-V LX $30,795 2WD / $32,295 AWD

Coming back for 2024, the CR-V LX is the entry level trim for Honda's popular compact SUV. It packs a 1.5 liter turbocharged I-4 that's paired with a CVT in either FWD (2WD, if you want to follow what Honda is doing, here) or AWD. At just over $32,000, the 2024 CR-V LX AWD is a great, somewhat budget-friendly way to add Honda reliability to move more people and cargo along with driving all four wheels. Its fuel economy isn't bad, either. The 2WD comes in with 28 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined. The AWD does take a penalty for driving two extra wheels, but it's not a huge one with 27/32/29 mpg in each cycle. In fact, those mpg ratings are the same across all of the 1.5 liter turbo with CVT options.

2024 Honda CR-V EX $33,305 2WD / $34,805 AWD

The next trim up is the EX and the first thing you'll notice is that you're getting 18-inch aluminum wheels over the LXs 17-inch steel wheels with covers as standard. You'll also get just slightly less headroom due to its one-touch power moonroof as standard. This drops front passenger headroom to 38.2 inches over the 40.0 in the LX. It also comes with other features the LX doesn't get like the key fob activated remote start, 240 Watt audio with six speakers, USB-C charging ports in the front (only one) and rear seats (two here), heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a powered driver's seat.

2024 Honda CR-V Sport $34,645 2WD / $36,145 AWD

The Sport is the first time you'll get a hybrid powertrain option, which comes with a 2.0 liter I-4 with a 181 hp electric motor. This gives the Sport a total system output of 204 hp, only 14 more than the 1.5 liter turbocharged I-4 in the non-hybrid trims. Despite the small bump in power, you do get a huge benefit in fuel economy. All of the hybrid trims of the CR-V get 43/36/40 mpg in 2WD and 40/34/37 mpg in the AWD. You also get an additional driving mode over the non-hybrids. The hybrids get Sport, Normal, Econ, and Snow modes while non-hybrid CR-Vs don't get the Sport mode. You also lose the spare tire and get a Tire Repair Kit in its place on Hybrid models.

2024 Honda CR-V EX-L $35,955 2WD / $37,455 AWD

The top of the line, non-hybrid trim is the EX-L on the 2024 CR-V. It gets all the bells and whistles you can get like the 9-inch touchscreen display, 320 Watt eight speaker sound system, wireless options for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, powered passenger's seat, auto dimming rearview mirror, a wireless charging pad, and auto up/down windows for all passengers, and a leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter, just to name a few. It's also one of two trims that gets a powered tailgate (the Sport Touring gets a powered tailgate with hands-free access).

2024 Honda CR-V Sport-L $37,645 2WD / $39,145

The Sport-L is new for 2024, but is similarly equipped as the EX-L but with a hybrid power plant. In addition, the Sport-L gets gloss black exterior accents, rectangular exhaust finishers, and 18-inch aluminum wheels in Berlina Black.

2024 Honda CR-V Sport Touring $40,795 AWD

For the 2024 model year, if you want the ultimate version of the CR-V ( at least the one you can buy off the showroom floor ), this is the trim you want. It only comes as a hybrid AWD and many of the Sport-L standards are present, but you get 19-inch aluminum wheels in Berlina Black with cut features, blind spot information, cross traffic monitor, navigation with voice recognition and Honda HD Digital Traffic, Bose Premium Sound with 12 speakers, HondaLine services, heated steering wheel, front foot and door handle ambient lighting, Sport interior styling, and rain sensing wipers.
