Vivid cruises are available most days of the week. As seating is limited, preferred dates sell out quickly. Vivid runs from 24th May to 15th June in 2024 so make sure to book your preferred date.

Where does the Vivid boat cruise start?

Your Sydney Harbour wharf location will differ depending on your boat cruise or tour. Most boat cruises start from King St wharf in Darling Harbour, but some pick up from closer to Circular Quay or around the Rocks. Please read the cruise description and check your tickets for when to meet your boat and where.

What to expect on the night?

Departing from close to the city, you’ll get to see all the beautiful sights on Sydney Harbour. Vivid boat cruises will head past the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, so make sure you have your camera ready for that incredible photo with these landmarks in the background.

What happens to my Vivid boat cruise in bad weather?

In bad weather, boats still tend to go out. Boat cruise cancellations don’t occur in rainy weather unless deemed unsafe. For a complete list of cancellation policies, please read each boat cruise’s terms and conditions carefully.

What’s included in my Vivid boat cruise?

The Vivid cruises are a sightseeing tour through the harbour so many have minimal inclusions. For each boat cruise, what comes included will be different. Please read the tour description carefully to ensure what to expect on the water.

Are there bathrooms on my boat cruise?

The boat cruises will have a bathroom on board.

Please remember that these are marine toilets for boats with bathrooms on board. Only put what comes out of you into the toilet. Make sure you read any instructions in the bathroom for how to properly operate the restroom or check with the crew on board.

What should I bring on my boat cruise?

Your boat cruise will be on Sydney Harbour. Dress appropriately for the weather. For cooler evenings, make sure you have something warm. Most boats will have an area inside for cover but you don’t want to be inside as you sail past the harbour sights light up at night. Bring comfortable shoes and heels are typically not allowed on the ship for safety reasons and to make sure it doesn’t damage the floor.

My partner and I booked a night cruise to see the Vivid lights and we had a very good time. The vessel is very modern and roomy, with plenty of space indoors and outdoors and an open rooftop. Sailing was smooth and touched all relevant Vivid landmarks, particular note that the boat goes all the way into Circular Quai so you can see lights from relatively close distance. There is also a bar on board which serves alcohol, soft drinks and snack. Staff was lovely and the whole service was seamless. I would highly recommend this cruise particularly if you would like to grasp all major Sydney Vivid lights in one go (cruise last about 1 hour) or if you have limited time in Sydney.

I would highly recommend this cruise company, they were able to embark and disembark passages professionally and fast. The vivid lights were fantastic from the boat. Great way to beat the crowds and see the lights. They had a man singing and playing guitar which was fantastic. Definitely worth the money.

Very impressed with the Fantasea cruise - we didn’t want dinner etc just the cruise and drinks - this was exactly what Fantasea delivered - arrived at the wharf on time and left the wharf exactly on time - great tour - very clean vessel and had an enjoyable time with lovely crew - highly recommend!

We booked the 8:30pm VIVID cruise on a Monday night, the boat was not packed at all, we actually had the whole front deck to ourselves on the return trip. The boat was exactly as described, even more pleasant than expected even. Smooth sailing, went up close to all the lights - VIVID itself was a bit mellow this year) but we got a great close up view of everything in Circular Quay then cruise close past the Opera House and around to the Botanical Gardens and past Mrs Macquarie Chair. Took a wide turn out in the harbour and came through under the centre of the bridge. We had a brilliant time and I would highly recommend this cruise to anyone interested. Great for all ages, I even noticed a kids play area inside the lower deck cabin.

We spend the night in Sydney to get the whole Vivid experience. As part of the visit, we booked a trip with Fantasea cruises to look at the lights of Vivid. It was very economical, and in the 1hr cruise we got to see the city from the water from Darling Harbour right around to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair. The view of the city, Botanical Gardens, Opera House and Harbour Bridge was fantastic, and allowed for some great photo opportunities that you can't get unless you're on the water. The cruise was not over crowded, and boarding and disembarking was well organised and simple. This is a great way to add to the whole Vivid experience

This is such a great way to see vivid! First off, the boat is nice. It has something for everyone. You can sit inside, go out on the upper deck outside, or go down to the bar. They had a musician playing on the second level and he was really good! We loved the views and the experience was great. You really can't beat the value! Price point- good, boat- good, views-spectacular.

• These Terms and Conditions set out the terms on which you (on behalf of yourself and any person on whose behalf you are booking, together "you" or "your") book through Australian Cruise Group Pty Ltd ABN 89 152 554 302 (referred to as, we, us and our, in these Terms and Conditions) for all bookings, reservations, products and cruises operated by us including Sydney Showboats, Magistic Cruises, Cruising Restaurants of Sydney, Magistic Events, and any other cruises, websites, operations or entities operated by us. These Terms and Conditions constitute the agreement between you and us.
• Individual bookings (less than 10 guests): Requires a full payment at the time of the booking. Free cancellation up to 72hrs before the cruise date.
• Group bookings (10 guests or more): The guest has a choice to pay 20% deposit to confirm the booking, if the cruise date is more than 21 days in advance. The customer must confirm the final number of guests 7 days prior to the cruise date and are required a full and final payment 21 days prior to the cruise. Credit will be issued for any reduction in final passenger numbers up to 7 days prior to the cruise date.
• Change cruise date (transfer your booking): Any request to transfer a booking to another date must be made 72 hours prior to the cruise date. Such transfer of bookings are subject to availability of seats at the same price for the new cruise date. If the price is higher for the new cruise date, you will be required to pay the difference in addition to the minimum transfer fee.
• Transfer fee: There is a $10 per person minimum transfer fee will apply. New Year’s Eve cruise tickets cannot be transferred to a different date.
• Please note that whilst we are delighted to welcome well-behaved children on board our vessels/cruising restaurants (excluding Clearview boats), we do not provide high chairs due to safety reasons. If you have infants, like an airline, you must book and pay the relevant price and declare at time of booking, as they must be included in the manifest. If infants are booked, we will facilitate extra space for stroller or pram on request.
• All cruise fares are quoted in Australian Dollars and include Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST).
• We reserve the right, if we consider necessary (for example, due to mechanical breakdown, for safety reasons or weather conditions), to substitute vessels without notice (including any vessels of a third party), deviate from a vessels advertised route, change any menu, service, schedule, program, performance or cruise fare. We will endeavour to provide a similar quality vessel, route, menu, service, schedule, program, performance or cruise fare (as the case may be) in these circumstances. In such circumstances, we will not be liable for your direct or indirect loss, or to refund any fares or portions of fares, nor will we be liable for any other damage, loss, expense, loss of time, disappointment, inconvenience, or any other consequential loss suffered by you.
• Requests from our guests for dietary requirements (gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free), substitutions and modifications of menus on board our cruises will be politely declined, as our kitchen team prepares the meals in our onboard kitchens. As we cater for large number of guests in a relatively small meal time, it is not practical for us to accommodate to such requests within the given time frame. All of our cruises have at least on vegetarian menu option for seated & served menus. Banquet/buffet menus also offer vegetarian choice. We cannot guarantee that certain products or ingredients (nuts, gluten, diary, etc.) will not be in our food, and we explicitly accept no liability in this regard. For serious food allergies you must make own decisions on selecting meals. Our staff’s comments are only to assist you in making an informed decision. In exceptional circumstances, with our prior written consent you (or one of your guests) may bring your own meal.
• Our cruises operate on busy waterways and are subject to the risks and perils of cruising on such waterways including loss, damage and injury arising out of or in connection with changing tidal and weather conditions and the navigation of other craft. To the extent permissible by law, we will not be responsible in tort, contract or otherwise for any loss or damage arising out of injury or death sustained by you or any other passenger, howsoever arising and whether or not arising as a result of our negligence or failure to render due care and skill. You enter into this agreement and book and travel on our cruises at your own risk. If however any guarantees, terms, conditions or warranties are implied into this agreement by any law of the Commonwealth or New South Wales, the exclusion of which would contravene that law or cause part or all of this clause to be void, then to the extent permissible by law: (a) We exclude all other guarantees, terms, conditions and warranties; and (b) Our liability for breach of such guarantee, term, condition or warranty is limited to the supply of the relevant cruise again or the cost of re-supplying the cruise.
• We exclude all liability for any loss or damage to clothing or personal items/belongings howsoever arising and whether or not our liability arises in tort, contract or otherwise.
• Some of the tours, products and cruises we operate may be considered dangerous and you should be aware of the risks involved before participating, which may include injury or death. Where the tours, products and cruises include activities that could be considered dangerous, you assume all of the inherent risks which are applicable to those activities. Certain medical conditions and medications may preclude you from participating in activities and you are responsible for confirming your ability to participate. You must use caution when participating in activities and inform us of any medical or other conditions.
• It is a condition of this agreement that any claim for loss or damage must be notified to us in writing within seven (7) days from the day the cruise finishes, and any court action, suit or proceeding must be brought no later than one (1) year from the same day. If you fail to comply with either of these conditions, we will be forever discharged from all claims, suits, actions and/or proceedings relating to or arising out of or in any way connected with the cruise and we will be discharged from all liability whatsoever, including any liability for negligence.
• We may contract or arrange for third parties to provide the whole or part of the cruise and any related services to you. You must not bring any claims or actions against such third parties. If you bring such a claim or action in breach of this agreement, you agree to indemnify us and the person against whom the claim or action is made against the consequences of that claim or action. You agree that in entering into this agreement, we are acting as the agent of and trustee for each of our employees, officers, agents and subcontractors, and each of these persons is deemed to be a party to the contract for the purpose of entitling each of them to enforce, have the benefit of and rely upon these Terms and Conditions.
• We strictly do not permit any alcohol to be brought on board for consumption. Any discussions with our representatives should not be construed as an acceptance to bring alcohol of any nature on board for any event or function. In line with our Responsible Service of Alcohol policy, such requests will be refused politely.
• You must not bring any alcohol or illegal substances onto the vessel. We reserve the right to refuse you entry to the vessel, or to require you to disembark from the vessel, including due to your intoxication or for the safety of other passengers or the vessel.
• This agreement is to be governed by and is to be construed in accordance with the laws in force in New South Wales. Any action, claim, suit or proceeding arising out of or connected in any way with this agreement or the cruise will only be brought in the Courts of New South Wales.
• If any of these provisions are unenforceable, this shall not affect the enforceability of any other part of the provision or any other provision. In the event of inconsistency between these Terms and Conditions and any other terms, these Terms and Conditions will prevail to the extent of the inconsistency. Vivid Sydney returns this May to flood the city’s glorious harbour with seemingly infinite shades of colour and light over 23 nights from May 24 to June 15, 2024. There’s a huge amount to see and do, so it pays to plan, particularly if you’re keen to stay in the Harbour City for a few days to explore the program of Light, Ideas, Food and Music. 

To make things easier, we’ve shortlisted the locations, venues and occasions that offer a Vivid Sydney experience above-and-beyond the standard Light Walk.

CRUISE THE HARBOUR IN STYLE While many Vivid visitors remain on dry land, insiders know that some of the best views can be gleaned from aboard a boat. And there’s no better way to get out on the water than by joining one of Cruise Sydney’s nightly cruises. The three-hour Vivid experience takes place on a revamped whale-watching vessel with an epic roof deck and full views from the comfy indoor main cabin. Cancellation, Changes, Weather, Refunds:

- No Refunds ! No Exceptions !

- Valid for date and time selected at time of purchase only - strictly no change permitted so please select carefully. No refund for preferred date not available

- In cases of bad weather: please be advised that all cruises will go ahead, unless the boat has stated otherwise

- If your selected cruise cannot go ahead you will be notified and we will endeavour to secure you a suitable alternative booking. Full Refunds will be made for cruises cancelled by the boat should no suitable alternative booking be found.

This event is being held in line with NSW Government health and COVID-19 restrictions. All guests, staff and performers will need to abide by social distancing practice (if imposed by the NSW government)

We assume no responsibility for illness, injury or death associated with any of their events.

Things to Remember:

- Please allow yourself plenty of time to get to the wharf, Vivid is a busy period & it is advised to be at pickup location 20 minutes early.

- There will be no refunds or change of slots, if you missed the booked boat slot.

- Cruise times include boarding time and disembarkment.

- Everyone requires a ticket (Kids Tickets are not free, you will not be allowed to board the vessel if child doesn't have a ticket)

- Prams are allowed (You will need to fold them before taking them onboard with you)

- Limited Wheelchair Access (Needs to be lifted on, you cannot roll up the wheelchair on to the vessel)

- It is not a BYO - You can not bring your own Food & Drinks onboard.

- No Heels allowed

- No outside food & drinks is permitted onboard.

Please note - With an exceptionally high demand of tickets each year, we cannot guarantee any last minute spots (if you or friends miss out on buying in advance), please make sure you have purchased your tickets as soon as possible.

Please note - Open Air Rooftops are used as Lounge area and have capacity limits. Whole capacity (180 people) of the boat cannot be on the rooftop all at once, due to safety reasons. However, both boats have Balconies on all levels. Please note (If applicable) - Drone shows are not officially a part of our event, they happen to be occurring when the event is on. Your tickets are for a 90 min cruise of Sydney Harbour with a free drink, not a drone show.

*See the Vivid Sydney Drone Show ‘Love is in the air’ 8th 9th & 15th June  (9:10 - 9:20 PM)

If the Drone Show time slot falls on your selected cruise time, only then you will be able to see it from the vessel. 

Tickets are not refundable if NSW government cancels or reschedules the drone shows due to any reason.

Every year we try & make a difference by supporting one of the charities. In 2022, we supported United Help Ukraine & Donated $6874 & in 2023 we donated $3900 to Fred Hollows Foundation. This year we are running a campaign once again for Fred Hollows foundation.

100% of your Donation will be directed towards Fred Hollows Foundation who are restoring millions of eye sights every year around the globe.

All Donations are tax deductible- This is an Add On, not the event ticket.

Insiders know that the best views of Sydney's Festival of Lights are from the harbour - and we don't mean the water's edge.

Join digiDirect and Sony for a very special event aboard 'Hamptons Sydney' - a purpose-built vessel with great stability, an outdoor roof deck, and a lower wrap-around glassed main deck providing plenty of photo opportunities. You'll capture the lights of Vivid from Sydney's very best vantage points during our 2 (plus) hour Vivid Photographic Experience.

Representatives from Sony will be on hand with equipment for you to try out. With a focus on professional bodies like the A1, A7R VI, A9 III & A7 IV, you can get hands on with some of the most powerful cameras on the market. Sony Advocate Robin Moon (@robin_moon_photography) will also be on board to help you get the most out of your gear. Robin has extensive experience shooting from the water and will be able to support with any technical questions. If you're not a Sony shooter, don't worry! This event is for photographers & creators of all levels. Whether you're a novice with a smartphone or a seasoned pro, you'll be able to capture incredible views and talk to industry experts. Food and drinks will be provided throughout the evening. The bar will also be open for the purchase of harder liquor.

IMPORTANT: Attendees must be at King St Wharf 7 - by 6:35 pm for a 6:50 pm embarkation.

We have a strict allotted 15-minute window at the dock, so if you're not at the embarkation point on time, you will miss the boat.

Bring your camera gear, and remember to bring plenty of memory cards and charged batteries. Tripods are welcome, although we can't guarantee everyone will have the opportunity to use them. Also, we're not strict on branding, so it doesn't matter if you're using a different brand's camera on the event night - it's all about the experience. Sony will have gear available to test on the night - please ensure you bring an SD card if you would like to test their cameras and take your images home with you.

This is a ticketed, private event with limited places, and it's sure to be an unforgettable VIVID experience.

Come and join us for our first-ever youth-only Vivid boat tour. 

Young people will see the Sydney lights from the water, avoiding crowds and the safety of the group on board the boat. We will be experiencing the sights of Barangaroo, The Rocks and Circular Quay including Sydney Harbour Bridge and the sails of the Sydney Opera House.

BYO Dinner, drinks and snacks.

Cruise has NO alcohol on board.

Your child must be at the pickup point at Darling Harbour, King Street Wharf, Wharf 1, Sydney, between 4.30pm and 4.45pm, to be checked off the attendance list by City staff. The cruise will leave at 5.30pm sharp.

Parents must ensure that they are at the meeting point to pick up their child/ren at 6.45pm, to take them home, young people will not be sent home unaccompanied from the wharf.

Cruise will still go ahead if it is raining.

There’s something for everyone across the 23 nights, so start planning your adventure now with our insider's guide of where to eat, stay and play during the festival.

Feed your curiosity: Where to eat

For top-notch sustainable and local seafood, look no further than Love.Fish , with its excellent Australian wine list and outdoor seating along the wharf. Or for Sydney’s best fried chicken, there’s none other than Belles Hot Chicken. While there, be sure to wash down your crispy, succulent Nashville-style chicken with a whisky and plum kombucha slushie.

Sydney is known its sheer diversity of available cuisines –Ume Burger is a delicious example of something a little different. Try Japanese-style burgers here, where they stuff their fluffy, Hokkaido-style milk buns with golden katsu or umami-boosted beef and all the trimmings. Or sample some of the city’s best street-style Thai food at Muum Maam, where herbs, spices, citrus and aromatics are in perfect balance across their menu.

If you’re keen for a more up-market experience head to Nobu at Crown Sydney. Here you can sample Japanese fine dining with a Peruvian twist by one of the world’s most iconic chefs, Nobuyuki Matsuhisa. Or try Oncore, a sky-high fine-dining restaurant with stunning Vivid Sydney views by three-Michelin-star-chef Clare Smyth.

If you’re in the neighbourhood during the day look no further than two Surry Hills transplants and now Sydney-wide icons: Bourke Street Bakery and Devon Café

Darling Harbour and Darling Quarter

Din Tai Fung is a great family-friendly option offering incredible dumplings and noodles. If you're after a date-night option, Atelier by Sofitelis an elegant space with an expansive wine list, beautiful local seafood and with an incredible view of the Light Walk. Darling Square is a buzzing precinct known for its range of Asian cuisines including dumplings, noodles, bubble tea and desserts.

The Goods Line

The Vivid Fire Kitchen is a night market like no other. Centred around the power and universal appeal of fire, there’ll be food trucks, markets stalls and barbecue stands serving flame-cooked cuisine from around the world. Plus, there’ll be fire pits, flame throwers, fire sculptures and a very special, nostalgic gelato pop-up, Messina Milk Bar.

Once you’ve savoured and sampled all Vivid Fire Kitchen has to offer, it’s time to explore the incredible options within walking distance.

XOPP, a contemporary spin on iconic Sydney restaurant Golden Century, serves excellent Cantonese food. Five minutes’ walk from the Goods Line, their name is an ode to their signature XO pippies, a must-order when visiting. You can also grab a late afternoon, pre-Light Walk yum cha there daily between 3-5pm.

If you’re on the hunt for an authentic, late-night Japanese izakaya, Nakano Darling serves great drinks and even better food. Think: high balls and succulent karaage served until the wee hours (they’re open until 2am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday).

If you’re out late and feeling particularly peckish, local Malaysian cult-favourite Ho Jiak serve an all-you-can-eat feast between 10pm and 12am, Monday to Saturday. They also serve their Penang-style street food a la carte, for both lunch and dinner.

After a great coffee experience during the day? Edition Roasters deftly combine elements of Japanese and Scandinavian cultures, serving delicious single origin coffees and beautifully considered plates of food.

Circular Quay

VividPlace Food Trail is a THE place to start a culinary adventure in Circular Quay – it's a vibrant food-trail, spread across Sydney Place and Bulletin Place laneways, with more than 20 stallholders offering a broad selection of global cuisines.

Mary's Underground, the festival locale for Vivid Sydney Supper Club, offers its famous burgers as well as diner fare late into the night, perfect for a post-Light Walk feast. There's also newly opened tequila bar Centro 86, for anyone after an agave-based tipple, pre, during or post-Light Walk. Their shaved-to-order ice-based cocktails are a must try.

Le Foote is a standout place for a premium but fuss-free meal in the historic centre of Sydney. Located in a heritage-listed venue, it’s part-Parisian wine bar, part-Mediterranean grill and all class. Bring your kids to Pancakes on The Rocks for an Americana take on the classic pancake, it’s also open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays for the night owls. Or for something truly special, Quay is home to some of the best Vivid Sydney views and is led by celebrated chef Peter Gilmore. If you didn’t manage to snag tickets to his Our Shared Humanity dinner, then this is your chance to sample his brilliant cuisine. There’s also Bay Nine, a Japanese omakase restaurant, with a daily changing menu of 11 courses served by an acclaimed chef.

There is a glut of excellent options for diners in the CBD. For authentic, creative and delicious pasta try favourite laneway spot Ragazzi. Or opt for one of their two sister spots, the up-market Palazzo Salato or the super casual Fabbrica Pasta Shop. All three serve some of Sydney’s best pasta, with a drinks list to match.

For those up for a more adventurous yet elegant meal, there’s several high-end Korean restaurants in the heart of the city. Soul Dining serves truly mind-blowing modern Korean, with signature dishes like their rice bread and ox tongue doughnut pushing the boundaries of the cuisine into delicious new territory. While around the corner, Funda is a more upbeat and colourful take on modern Korean with crowd-pleasers like their soy-cured prawn with burrata.

Show stoppers: Where to play

Sydney is overflowing with theatres, galleries, museums and performance spaces. From Broadway musicals to historic exhibitions, here’s where to spend the day before the lights turn on.

See the city

Sydney is one of the best cities in the world for coastal walks. A short ferry ride away, Sydney’s lower north shore is a great spot to take a long or short stroll and look back over the harbour at the shimmering skyline of the CBD. Here, you can take in sections of the famous Bondi to Manly walk. Another excellent way to get under the skin of the city is to partake in one of the Sydney Opera House tours. Its architecture tour is an incredible way to learn about the history of the building and why it’s a marvel of modern design. If you’re keen for an unprecedented view of the city, you can also climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge with BridgeClimb.

In the exhibition halls

Visit one of the world’s most significant collections of Chinese contemporary art at Chippendale’s White Rabbit Gallery. While there, you can also enjoy their authentic tearoom for an oolong tea and scones. If you’re keen to take in some First Nations art, the Art Gallery of New South Wales has an extensive collection in their new wing and you can take an insightful, guided tour to get the most out of your visit. Or take in the latest modern art and ideas from Australian and international artists, alongside unrivalled harbour views, at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

If your family loves all things prehistoric, visit the Australian Museum. Here you'll explore the giant fossilised skeletons and life-size casts of Australian dinosaurs, as well as the infamous Stegosaurus and T.Rex. Plus, learn about unique native flora and fauna, changing science, and wander through other cultural exhibitions.

Take in the harbour

Watch the morning sun illuminate the skyline on a Sydney Harbour Sunriser kayak safari with Sydney Harbour Kayaks. Slow things down with a pedal past secret coves and over the magnificent Sydney Harbour Bridge with Sydney Harbour Bike Tours, or rise for a bird's-eye view of beautiful Sydney on a flight with Sydney Seaplanes. May and June also fall within prime whale watching season here`, take a special cruise with Whale Watching Sydney and see these magnificent creatures up close and personal.

For more insight into Sydney's colonial past and a taste of local beers in some of The Rocks historic pubs, head off on one of Dave’s Pub Tours. The Rocks Aboriginal Dreaming Tour, by Dreamtime Southern X, will show you another side of Sydney's history – that of the Gadigal people, and how their culture originated from the land.

As the sun sets, be mesmerised by Vivid Sydney's lights reflecting across the water with a 60-minute evening cruise of the harbour with Fantasea. On the ground, learn how to capture the beautiful Vivid Sydney light on a Vivid Photography Walking Tour with Picture Me Sydney.

A comfortable place to put up your feet after a night exploring is essential during Vivid Sydney, and the city has a room for everyone.

Located in the heart of the CBD, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has reopened its doors after a stunning refurbishment to offer five-star luxury in the city, while Kimpton Margot Sydney fuses Art Deco ambience with modern luxe, including a glamorous rooftop bar and pool. Crown Sydney is a prime spot to access Vivid Sydney locations Barangaroo and Darling Harbour, and for twinkling harbour panoramas and full views of the Vivid Sydney lights, waterfront Park Hyatt Sydney or Shangri-La Sydney at The Rocks can't be beaten.

Family-friendly

There are plenty of accommodation options that meet all the requirements of travelling with little ones. The waterfront Novotel Sydney Darling Harbour is a great base to explore Vivid Sydney from, as well as being conveniently located to many family-friendly food options. Alternatively, head across the bridge and settle in for a slumber party with the animals at Taronga Zoo– wildlife safari tents look out on the illuminated Sydney Harbour.

Arts & entertainment, design & style, travel & leisure, search concrete playground, mackenzie arnold and tony gustavsson have joined vivid sydney's 2024 lineup to talk all things matildas.

As well as hitting Sydney for a game on the way to the Paris Olympics, the Matildas goalkeeper and coach will take to the Vivid stage.

They played the first game of their 2023 Women's World Cup campaign in Sydney. They took on Denmark there in the round of 16, then England in the semi-final loss. The next reason that the Matildas will hit the Harbour City: a match against China PR on the way to the 2024 Paris Olympics, and also for goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold and coach Tony Gustavsson to take to the Vivid stage.

The duo have just joined the already-packed Vivid Sydney 2024 lineup for a Vivid Ideas session at Sydney Town Hall on Monday, June 10. At Champions of Change: Mackenzie Arnold and Tony Gustavsson , the pair will have plenty to talk about — all things Matildas, of course, including the team's achievements over the past year, the challenges along the way, the squad's impact, the pressures and the coach-athlete dynamic.

"This Vivid Sydney event is an awesome opportunity to connect with fans and reflect on the incredible ride we've had with the Matildas over the last couple of years. The highs and lows, the pressure and the triumphs, what it means to represent your country on the world stage — this is more than just a game. It's a chance to inspire the next generation and make a difference for women and girls on and off the field," said Arnold about the session.

"The Matildas have had an incredible journey over the last 12 months, and it's a proud moment for me as a manager to celebrate and reflect on this at Vivid Sydney alongside Mackenzie," added Gustavsson.

"I want to shed light not only our achievements on the field but also the incredible spirit and resilience behind the scenes, how much each of these players gives to this game. This conversation is also a chance to delve into the strategies that shaped our team's success and to touch on the broader implications of our journey for women's sport and society at large."

Arnold and Gustavsson's addition to the Vivid lineup comes after Amy Poehler recently also joined the bill, to discuss her career and the upcoming Pixar sequel Inside Out 2 .

"We're so proud to be bringing two modern-day superstars of sport to the Vivid Sydney 2024 program. This discussion with Mackenzie and Tony will explore humanity through the lens of sport and bring a relatable and inspirational touch to their world class achievements on the field. Amy Poehler to appear at Vivid Sydney 2024

The Golden Globe and Emmy Award winning actress and comedian, Amy Poehler will join this year’s Vivid Sydney line-up for a special Vivid Ideas event at the Sydney Opera House on Monday 27 May.

Poehler, who is one of Hollywood’s most versatile and sought-after talents, with credits including actress, writer, director, producer, and bestselling author, will front Vivid Sydney Presents – In Conversation with Amy Poehler plus a special first look at Disney and Pixar’s ‘Inside Out 2’. The event will be moderated by Zan Rowe.

“I’m really looking forward to taking part in Vivid Sydney this year, a place that welcomes Joy in every way,” said Poehler. “I can’t wait to share a little of Inside Out 2: a movie that lets Joy and Sadness, Anxiety and Envy—all try to work together in hilarious and touching ways.”

Appearing for the first time in Sydney since 2015, Poehler’s not-to-be-missed In Conversation will be preceded by an exclusive 30-minute look of select scenes from the highly anticipated ‘Inside Out 2’, the sequel to Disney and Pixar’s Academy Award® winning and critically acclaimed ‘Inside Out’ (2015), which sees Poehler once again voice the role of Joy.

Poehler has built a remarkable career spanning comedy and writing and is best known for her role in the Emmy-nominated NBC comedy series ‘Parks and Recreation’. Her portrayal of Hilary Clinton during the 2008 Presidential Election on ‘Saturday Night Live’ (SNL) received widespread acclaim, leading up to her final season as the beloved co-anchor of ‘Weekend Update’. In 2015, Poehler’s return to SNL alongside Tina Fey resulted in an Emmy win for “Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series”. Additionally, her literary debut ‘Yes Please’ topped the New York Times Best Sellers list in October 2014, staying there for over 23 weeks.

Following the Vivid Ideas event, a bespoke ‘Inside Out 2’ projection will light up Customs House at Circular Quay for a one off, 30-minute projection.

A bit about  sydney vivid festival.

Vivid Sydney 2024  is the largest festival of light, music, and ideas, in the Southern Hemisphere. From Friday 24th May to Saturday 15th June 2024 the harbour city’s iconic buildings will be bathed in light and sound.

Vivid Sydney is an annual festival that sparks the soul of our city with creative brilliance for 23 days and nights. Celebrating its 13th year in 2024, Vivid Sydney fuses art, innovation and technology in collaboration with some of the most boundary-pushing artists, thinkers and musicians of our time. Vivid Sydney tells a story of the harbour city beyond the icons, about urban legends, secret spaces and visions for the future. The 2024 light festival boasts the longest continuous Light Walk in the history of the event, from Sydney Opera House to Central Station. Once again, the Sydney Opera House will be aglow for the Lighting of the Sails, and at a new Light Walk addition, Central Station, the George Street façade will boast an interactive projection.

Vivid Sydney 2024 will warm the creative soul of the Sydney CBD, Circular Quay, The Rocks, Walsh Bay, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour, Darling Square, Darling Quarter and iconic city structures such as the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Customs House, and new light canvases, The Goods Line, ASN Clocktower in The Rocks and Central Station.
