One Hour Quad Bike Tour

Head off through a regenerated bush track onto Stockton Sand Dunes on a tag-a-long tour led by Aboriginal guides riding only at a speed the clients are comfortable with. From the top of the highest dunes, which can reach 30 metres in height, you can enjoy 360-degree views of the area. The 400cc Kymco Quad Bikes are fully automatic and exceptionally safe. Children (seven-thirteen) would ride a smaller 90cc Quad Bike.

You will be given an introduction to the quad bikes, including safe ATV handling and riding techniques. A helmet and hi-vis vest will be arranged for you as well before you head off.

They own and control the highest coastal sand dunes in the Southern Hemisphere and they are not open to the public, so, the only way to see the big dunes is through them.

No experience is necessary.

Please note: the high dunes are dangerous for untrained riders and are only available under the tour guide's supervision.

Horse riding - what to wear and bring.

• We recommend wearing full length pants. Jodhpurs, moleskins or jeans are ideal.
• Fully enclosed footwear such as riding boots or shoes with a flat sole and small heel is best. If you don’t have these riding boots are available to hire or you can wear runners or sandshoes however they are not recommended. Sandals, thongs or large bulky shoes with a heavy tread are not permitted.
• For safety reasons backpacks, handbags etc are not permitted to be worn whilst riding.
• Remember to bring sunscreen, insect repellent and a brimmed hat. Sunscreen and insect repellent are available for sale.

horse riding restrictions

• For safety and animal welfare, there is a maximum weight limit of 100kg.
• Please be aware that our maximum weight limit may be lower than 100kgs and is subject to variation according to what horses are available for riding on the day of your visit.
• We are unable to guarantee that a suitable horse will be available on the day of your visit however every effort will be made to provide you with a suitable horse.
• In addition to a rider’s weight, we do also take into account a rider’s height to weight ratio, riding experience, general muscle tone and fitness when assessing whether we have a suitable horse available.

quad biking - what to wear and bring

• Please ensure you wear a t-shirt (no singlets), long pants, sunglasses and enclosed shoes
• It’s a good idea to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dusty or to bring a change of clothes just in case. Coveralls and bandanas may be purchased on the day if you wish
• Please wear enclosed shoes. No thongs or slip on shoes are permitted
• Bring your wet weather gear if the weather is a bit uncertain
• Wear warm clothes during the winter months. Gloves are also recommended during the winter months

quad biking minimum participants

• Please note that a minimum of 2 participants is required for a tour to proceed.
• However if your group has fewer participants than this we are normally able to operate by combining a number of smaller groups into the tour.

quad biking pre-authorisation

• In line with our  terms & conditions , quad bike group bookings for 6 or more guests are required to provide a $500 pre-authorisation prior to arrival. This pre-authorisation will be released by your financial institution within 7 business days less any damage or expenses that may occur.
• For some bookings, such as those made via a third-party provider, a Glenworth Valley consultant will contact you directly to obtain credit card details.

Our aim is to share our knowledge with you and hopefully foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the significance of the sand dunes. We do this by sharing the history, stories and traditions through a ‘Cultural Lens’.

Where we operate

Sand Dune Adventures operates from the Murrook Cultural Centre at Williamtown, Port Stephens, NSW.

This is two and a half hour’s drive north of Sydney, 30 minutes from Newcastle CBD and 30 minutes from Nelson Bay.

Port Stephens is best known for its natural beauty, an abundance of aquatic marine life, uncrowded sandy beaches, sheltered bays and unspoilt National Parks.

How we identify and provide for people with specific needs

On occasion, customers have specific needs relating to

• added activities (sand boarding etc)
• tour times (longer riding times, earlier start and/or later finish for sunset photography)
• personal disability challenges
• age challenges (youth and elderly)
• group size numbers

As a result, we are very flexible in our delivery to ensure that everyone gets to experience the dunes in some shape and form.

Disability Riders/ Youth/Seniors/Inexperienced

We want everyone to have a go

Depending on the clients concern, SDA guides always work with the client an offer them every opportunity to ride the bike themselves.

To do this, we have developed a procedure whereby, clients ride the smaller training track to provide then with an opportunity to develop confidence, and/or demonstrated that they can handle the bike (noting that safety comes first).

Our guides provide a personal induction and ‘one on one’ time with the client and following the client’s brief riding demonstration, our guides will make an educated assessment on their ability.

If for any reason, the Guide (or the client) determines that they are unable to ride the vehicle alone, then the following is offered to the Client: see Next Tab

Options for you

You can be doubled by our Aboriginal Tour Guide

This is the more popular option and has occurred on numerous occasions with people always walking away from the experience completely satisfied. For example our guide will have some fun on the bike doing manoeuvres that you wouldn’t have been able to do.

On a rare occasion we have had to double more than one person per tour. For example 3 guides could equal 3 clients being doubled.

Provide you with a 4WD or Hummer Tour. On most occasions, people will take up the offer of a 4WD or Hummer Tour. People are pleased to learn that they are not penalised due to a fear or inability to ride.
