Use government-issued travel cards properly.

The Postal Service is reminding employees who have been issued a Citibank GSA SmartPay 3 card to only use them for official USPS business-related travel expenses.

The cards allow employees who travel on postal business to receive government-rate airfares and hotel accommodations .

However, the cards should never be used:

• For another employee’s travel expenses.

• To put air itineraries or hotels on hold for other employees.

• For personal, family or household expenses.

• To withdraw cash from an ATM, unless on international travel.

Additionally, when booking travel, employees must use Omega World Travel/GetThere , the Postal Service’s contracted travel management company.

Booking reservations through other travel service providers is against policy and prevents the organization from fulfilling certain contractual obligations and from receiving discounts and rebates.

Employees should also:

• File expense reports as soon as possible after travel is complete.

• Notify their travel card coordinator and Citibank if a card is lost or stolen.

• Promptly report changes of address or name changes to their travel card coordinator and Citibank.

• Notify travel card coordinators about job changes.

• Dispute any charges that are incorrect.

Additionally, employees should always secure their government travel card as if it were a personal credit card.

To request a travel card, ask your travel card coordinator for an application, have the completed application approved by an approving official and return it to the coordinator for processing.

Cards usually arrive in two weeks.

Seven Individuals Charged in Postal Employee Theft Ring

PROVIDENCE, RI - Seven individuals, all former or current employees of the U.S. Postal Service, have been charged in federal court with conspiracy and theft of mail for their alleged participation in an alleged mail theft ring spanning from early 2023 through the beginning of 2024, announced United States Attorney Zachary A. Cunha.

Six of seven individuals were arrested today; a seventh defendant was charged earlier this month.  All seven men were employed at the Processing and Distribution Center at 24 Corliss Street, Providence, RI. One of the men charged was a supervisor at the distribution center.

According to charging documents, in March 2023, customers began reporting that mail was either not delivered or delivered without its contents. An investigation by, the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General identified a group of employees, including a supervisor, who are alleged to have worked together to sort, separate, and conceal selected mail that they believed to contain cash, checks, or gift cards. At the end of their shift, the mail would be removed surreptitiously from distribution center, usually in a backpack carried by a member of theft ring. The group gathered after their shifts ended and opened the stolen mail, sorting out gift cards, cash, and checks to distribute amongst themselves. During the course of the investigation, it is alleged that one defendant was caught with a backpack of stolen mail that included over $1.3 million worth of checks.

“The misuse of public employment for private gain is both a serious crime and profound breach of the public trust,” commented U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Cunha. “The arrests and charges we announce today should send a clear message that those who engage in public corruption for personal gain will be held accountable.”

U.S. Postal Service, Office of Inspector General, Special Agent in Charge Matthew Modafferi added, “The Special Agents of the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General are committed to maintaining the integrity of the Postal Service and its more than 600,000 employees. The conduct alleged in the criminal complaint is disgraceful and our office will continue to investigate postal employees who violate the public’s trust. This type of behavior within the Postal Service is not tolerated. The USPS OIG would like to thank our law enforcement partners and the District of Rhode Island U.S. Attorney’s Office for their collaboration and efforts with this investigation.”

Charged in U.S. District Court in Providence with conspiracy to steal mail and theft of mail by a postal employee are Darren Camacho, 30, of Providence; Fernando Camacho, 28, of Providence; Willie Estrella, 31, of Providence; Ryan Lee, 43, of Cranston; Cyril Murray, 44, of Pawtucket (employed as a supervisor); Angel Rivera, 27, of Providence; and Andre Williams, 31, of North Providence. A federal criminal complaint is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie M. White.

The matter was investigated by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General, with the assistance of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Providence Police Department, and Smithfield Police Department.

Best travel card on the market.

I purchased a travel money card from my local post office. Excellent customer service. The benefits of the card and the accompanying app were fully explained. I registered the card after 10.30 the next day, downloaded the app and topped up the card all at home. Simple!!! Can be used contactless and comes with a pin. Used in bars, restaurants and hotels. No problem's. Card is secure as it's not attached to any of my bank accounts. Huge benefit is you can have up to 22 currencies added to the card. Plus the exchange rates are better than cash and secure.

The Post Office Travel Money Scam Card

The Post Office Travel Money Card, as offered by First Rate Exchange Services Ltd, is a complete scam. I recently put £1,250.02 on one for a trip to Thailand. First of all, they will rip you off on the exchange rate; giving you thousands of Baht less than other providers. Second, their 'Schedule of Fees' for ATM withdrawals is entirely false and fictional. They say 80 THB, the true figure is 220 THB; 175% more than the quoted amount. These people are crooks and fraudsters, and best avoided. Michael Harrold.

Would not recommend

Would not recommend. Loaded with US dollars, as in Barbados that is widely accepted. However, when I used card I was charged a commission fee. My children then said , should have got a Monzo card as they give you the rate on the day with no commission. Another scam from the great institution of the Post Office!!

Didn't get delivered on time. Can't move balances. No online alternatives.

Still haven't received my card after 6 days. Called the help line and was told to order another card in branch to get it instantly but there is no way to transfer a balance from an online order onto a new card. Long and short of it is, if I want the use of this service before my holiday I need to spend more of my money and order fresh again. I also don't live in a town with a branch that can do this so I'd need to travel to even do this. Bad delivery service, no means to swap balances, no online card alternatives (it's 2024 - this could be an online digital app like many other cards), and no "help" from the help line worth the effort of calling. Won't be using the card in future and will continue to just buy cash for travelling from other brokers.

No fees and easy to use

The Travel Money Card was so easy to use and having the physical card as well as the app meant my husband and I could pay for things from the same account when needed. There are no transaction fees as there are with most bank cards used overseas so would definitely recommend and use next time we go abroad.

so far, so good

I am an older person and view apps and phone banking as necessary evils and with great distrust. However it is almost impossible to live without them and some products do help make life easier. This is the premise behind the PO Travel card which allows you to carry foreign currency in the equivalent of a use-abroad deposit account card. While it wasn't entirely pain-free to set up it was bearable with minimal faff, and it worked 100% the small handful of times I tried it in shops abroad. Assuming the remainder of the currency I put in that card does not vanish before I next go abroad I will continue to use it. I'm unsure of the exact advantage it gives over my UK bank account card and using that abroad, perhaps not getting fleeced by fluctuating exchange rates. I was told it is more efficient than just buying a wad of Euros at the Post Office.

Post Office Travel Card

Ordered a Post Office travel card and unfortunately loaded a reasonable sum in USD on 08 April 2024, on the expectation that it would arrive in 2-3 days as advertised on the Post Office portal. After 6 days, no card so this is followed by a telephone call. 43 minutes later, following scripted dialogue from the operator, I move on. We're now 12 days on and still no travel card. 14 e-mails, 2 complaints and another 40+ minute phone call and still no travel card or refund or compensation. The Post Office are also unable to evidence actually posting the travel card... Post Office - you should be ashamed of yourselves - your customer service is absolutely appalling at best.

I've had my Post Office Travel Money Card for years and carry all my holiday spending money on it. Its so easy to use and I've always been able to access cash if I've needed it, from an ATM. The App makes everything easy to manage and I can transfer from my bank whenever I need to because who sticks to budget when they're on holiday?! 😅

Lessons in travelling

I've found the Post Office travel money card very useful and easy to use on two European trips in the past four months. For a number of reasons my current trip, to Australia, has not been so smooth. I found it impossible to top up on either the app or the website, which proved to be my bank's fault - it declined the transaction, despite having allowed it in the past. The TMC app and website fell short by not explaining at all why things were not working out. And I fell short by switching off my UK phone SIM card to avoid international call rates, which meant that I couldn't receive messages from my bank which would have explained why I couldn't top up. So, faults with me, my bank and (really least of all) the TMC, all now resolved.

I got a travel card from post office to…

I got a travel card from post office to be delivered i put £50 on there but was charged £50.70 ...post office said it was not them , monzo state it was not them ..so whose took the 0.70..gonna cost a bomb with further instalments on the card ..may have to look elsewhere or just use good old fashioned cash

The Post Office charge a 1.5% fee for loads made in Sterling, to remain in Sterling on the card. Out with this, for purchase of all other currencies, your Sterling goes through the rate of that day and the funds are then locked in at this rate on the card for spending. Useless. Card worked ok until it didn't. Stopped working while on holiday. Tried to check balance at local Spanish ATMs but they would not recognise the card. The app wouldn't open and when I tried opening the account via the browser it would not let me in. Eventually I was locked out. Luckily I also had a TUI money card which was easier to set up and works perfectly. Would advise you get card from a travel agent or bank. Do not rely on the Post Office.

  • Use the  Online Passport Status System  to confirm if we mailed your passport. 
  • Contact us if you have not received your passport two weeks after we mailed it.

If you do not report your passport lost in 90 days after we issued it, you must apply again and pay all fees.

Should I report my passport lost or stolen if it has expired?

No. If your passport expired, it is no longer valid and you cannot use it for international travel. You should not report an expired passport as lost or stolen.

Can someone travel using only my passport number?

No. No one can travel using only a U.S. passport number. You must present an original, physical version of a passport to travel.

The passport book and card have many security features to prevent successful counterfeiting. 

You should only report your valid U.S. passport lost or stolen if the physical document is lost or stolen. Once you report a U.S. passport lost or stolen, it is no longer valid and you cannot use it for international travel.

What should I do if I find someone else's passport?

If you find another person's lost U.S. passport, please mail it in a sturdy envelope to:

How do I cancel the passport of a deceased relative?

You can return the passport of a deceased relative for cancelation. After we cancel it, we will return the passport.

Can I travel if I find my passport after reporting it lost or stolen?

No. If you reported your passport lost or stolen, it is no longer valid. You cannot use it for international travel. If you try to use the passport you reported as lost or stolen, you may have issues traveling. For example, a foreign country may deny entry to you.

If you want to travel after reporting your passport lost or stolen, apply for a new passport using Form DS-11.

What to do when your green card is lost or stolen

The green card, officially known as a permanent resident card, is proof of your right to live and work in the United States. It is probably your primary immigration identification and is essential for obtaining many services. If your green card is ever lost or stolen, the experience can be extremely nerve-racking.

Losing your card does not mean you’ve lost your permanent resident status. You have lost proof of your immigration status, but it doesn't mean you've lost your status. However, not having a green card can be a major problem when traveling, applying for a job or other daily activities. Here is what to do when your green card is lost or stolen:

If Your Green Card is Lost or Stolen Inside the U.S.

If you are inside the United States when your green card is lost or stolen, the process to replace it is simple. You will need to file Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card , as soon as possible. It will take several months to get your new card. This can be problematic if you need to start a new job or travel abroad.

If you need to travel abroad before you receive the replacement green card, you can get temporary proof of your permanent resident status. USCIS can place an I-551 stamp in your valid, unexpired passport. The stamp is proof of your status. Don't have a passport? Try contacting the local consulate here in the United States to request a passport. For example, a Mexican national would contact the Mexican consulate in the U.S. to request a passport.

You may use the I-551 stamp for other purposes as well. As long as it is valid and unexpired, the stamped document is just like a green card. An employee must provide documentation to an employer to prove their identity and authorization to work. The I-551 stamp is valid proof of permanent residence for the purposes of employment. A foreign passport that contains a temporary I-551 stamp or temporary I-551 printed notation on a machine-readable immigrant visa (MRIV) is an acceptable " List A " document. Most states also require proof of permanent residence to obtain or renew a drivers license. Although each state has it's own requirements, most will accept the I-551 stamp as proof.

Note: Take your Form I-797C, Notice of Action , to the InfoPass appointment for your temporary stamp. The Notice of Action is a receipt letter that shows you properly filed Form I-90 to replace your card. You will receive the Form I-797C, Notice of Action approximately 2 to 4 weeks after filing Form I-90.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requires transportation carriers, such as airlines, to board permanent residents only if they have valid documentation. If you no longer have possession of your green card, you'll need a temporary travel document (carrier documentation) to board a transportation carrier. If you are outside the United States when your green card is lost or stolen, start by requesting a police report in the jurisdiction in which your card was stolen. To obtain the carrier documentation (boarding foil in your passport or a transportation letter), prepare Form I-131A, Application for Carrier Documentation , and file it at the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate .

Replace the card.

Upon returning to the United States, you must also file Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card, to replace the missing green card.

If your green card is lost in the mail.

Perhaps you never received your green card from USCIS. If your green card has been lost in the mail, you will need to apply for a replacement card using Form I-90. Depending on the circumstances, USCIS may replace it for free.

If you've been following your case online, you can check the status and see when USCIS mailed the card by using the USCIS case status feature. Wait at least 30 days from the date that USCIS mailed the green card. The waiting period allows sufficient time for the card to be mailed and returned to USCIS if undeliverable. Check your initial application to ensure that you provided the correct mailing address. When your green card is lost in the mail, USCIS will replace it at no cost if your situation meets all of the following criteria:

  • USCIS mailed the card over 30 days ago;
  • It was returned to USCIS as undeliverable; and
  • You did not move from the address you provided USCIS.

Confirm these facts before filing Form I-90. If your situation does not meet these criteria, you will need to pay the full filing fee to replace the green card.

Appealing a form i-90 denial.

If USCIS denies your application for a replacement green card (Form I-90), they will mail you a letter that explains the reason for the denial. You may not appeal a negative decision. (An appeal is a request to review a decision.) However, you may submit a motion to reopen or a motion to reconsider with the same office that made the unfavorable decision. By filing such a motion, you may ask the office to reexamine or reconsider its decision. We recommend the help of an immigration attorney if USCIS denies your green card replacement application. USPS workers in Rhode Island charged in mail theft ring; authorities estimate losses to be ‘massive’

P ROVIDENCE, R.I. ( WPRI ) — Federal investigators have broken up a “well-organized and wide-ranging conspiracy” to steal valuables from the mail in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, they announced Wednesday.

The alleged conspiracy involved a supervisor and six other workers at the U.S. Postal Service processing and distribution center in Providence, Rhode Island, which handles all incoming and outgoing mail for Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.

The facility handles roughly 3.5 million pieces of mail every day, according to U.S. Attorney Zachary Cunha, who, alongside special agents from the USPS Office of Inspector General, announced the arrests of the seven suspects.

Investigators allege that from March 2023 through February 2024, the accused workers would pull certain envelopes out of the stream while sorting mail, then smuggle them out of the facility in backpacks. The group would later meet up to divide the take.

As an example, Cunha said that during the holiday season, the suspects would target brightly colored envelopes that may have contained cash, checks or gift cards.

It’s currently unclear how much was stolen in total, but Cunha indicated there were “massive” losses. In one instance, he said, one of the suspects was caught with a backpack stuffed with business envelopes containing approximately $1.3 million worth of checks.

“I would emphasize that these thefts were not isolated occurrences,” Cunha said. “Surveillance conducted during the investigation showed multiple members of the conspiracy engaged in taking, setting aside and then smuggling stolen mail out from the facility on any given day.”

The following people have been charged with theft of mail by a postal employee and conspiracy:

  • Cyril Murray, 44, of Pawtucket (supervisor)
  • Darren Camacho, 30, of Providence
  • Fernando Camacho, 28, of Providence
  • Willie Estrella, 31, of Providence
  • Ryan Lee, 43, of Cranston
  • Angel Rivera, 27, of Providence
  • Andre Williams, 31, of North Providence

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone in Rhode Island our southeastern Massachusetts who believes their mail went missing between March 2023 and February 2024 is urged to call the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General hotline at 1-888-USPS-OIG (1-888-877-7644), email [email protected] , or file a claim online .

While cash and gift cards are typically spent immediately in these cases and will likely not be recoverable, Cunha said any information that’s provided can help their investigation.

“Today’s charges should make clear: this kind of public corruption will not be tolerated,” he added. “Postal employees who help themselves to valuables that they are entrusted to deliver safely to their destinations will be held to account.”

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
