Dolly Parton says she doesn’t plan to tour again, confirms she's working on a rock 'n' roll album

Dolly Parton's storied career has spanned nearly six decades. Now, at 76, Parton says she thinks her touring days are over, though fans may still get to see the icon live.

In an interview with Pollstar magazine published Thursday, Parton said she plans to do occasional "special shows" but doesn't think she'll tour again.

“Maybe do a long weekend of shows, or just a few shows at a festival," she said. "But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore. I’ve done that my whole life, and it takes so much time and energy.”

Months of planning goes into creating a tour that fans haven’t seen, she told Pollstar, “So you can’t just go out and do a few shows, you really have to commit to doing enough shows to make all that time and effort pay off.”

Parton’s most recent tour was Pure and Simple in 2016. Her twelfth tour, she headlined 60 performances across the United States and Canada and it  was marketed as her largest tour ever  across North America.

In the Pollstar interview, Parton said the decision stemmed from her concern for  her husband of 56 years, Carl Dean .

“I like to stay a little closer to home with  my husband ,” she said. “We’re getting older now, and I don’t want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time.”

She told the magazine one of her fears is something may happen when she’s on the road, so staying close to her Nashville area home is paramount at this point in her life.

When it comes to her fervent fans, Parton thanks technology for keeping her so connected to them without touring.

“I don’t ever feel separated from my fans because in this high-tech world, you can be right with them,” she said. “You can do special shows in special ways. I will be doing some of that.”

Parton also said she's working on a rock ’n’ roll album and hopes to have some legends of the genre sing with her.

"When I got nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I thought 'Well, no better time to do it,'" she told Pollstar. "My husband is a big hard rock ’n’ roll fan, and for years I thought, “One of these days I’d like to do an album mainly just for him, just to kind of do it.” 

She is slated to join the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame  at an induction ceremony Nov. 5 in Los Angeles.

In addition to Parton,  who initially tried to decline the nomination , this year’s inductees are Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Lionel Richie and Carly Simon.

Dolly Parton, the legendary country singer, doesn't plan to go back on the road and tour — despite plans to release a new rock album.

"I do not think I will ever tour again, but I do know I'll do special shows here and there, now and then," Parton said in an interview with Pollstar magazine published Thursday. "Maybe do a long weekend of shows, or just a few shows at a festival. But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore."

Parton, 76, said that at this point in her career, she prefers to not stray too far from family.

"I like to stay a little closer to home with my husband. We're getting older now, and I don't want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time. Something could happen," Parton said. "I would not feel right about that."

Parton's team did not respond to requests from NPR for additional comment.

Parton's last tour was her 2016 Pure and Simple Tour that spanned more than 60 cities in the U.S. and Canada — becoming her largest North American tour in over 25 years.

Although she doesn't plan on touring, Parton's career is far from over. In the same interview, Parton confirmed she is working to create a rock album after she wraps up work on a film adaptation of the best-selling James Patterson novel "Run, Rose, Run."

"I'm gathering all that stuff and notifying a few people," Parton said. "I'm looking forward to it."

Pitbull announces Party After Dark concert tour: T-Pain, Lil Jon to join as special guests

Dale! Mr. Worldwide is hitting the road once again.

Latin rap star Pitbull is set to deliver a mix of his career-spanning hits on the upcoming Party After Dark Tour. The U.S. trek follows numerous successful solo tours for the "Give Me Everything" rapper, including the triple-headlining Trilogy Tour with Enrique Iglesias and Ricky Martin .

Produced by Live Nation, the 26-city tour kicks off on Aug. 21 in Bristow, Virginia, making stops across the U.S. before wrapping in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Oct. 5.  Fellow rappers T-Pain and Lil Jon will serve as a special guests on the tour.

The Grammy-winning Pitbull is known for a slew of hit singles , including "Fireball," "Timber" with Kesha , "Hotel Room Service," "Give Me Everything" with Afrojack and Ne-Yo and "Time of Our Lives" with Ne-Yo.

T-Pain, known for singles like "Bartender," "Buy U a Drank" and "Booty Wurk" is popular for his use of auto-tune pitch with electronic-style vocal performances. His most recent album, "On Top of The Covers," was released in 2023.

Lil Jon will join the pair on two tour dates, in Ridgefield, Washington and Chula Vista, California. The rapper and DJ is known for the tracks "Turn Down For What," "Shots," "Get Low" and "Yeah!" with Usher and Ludacris. He was most recently featured on the Pitbull track "Jumpin" in 2023.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at LiveNation.com .

See inside Dolly Parton’s tour bus designed by the country star herself

After working "9 to 5," where does legendary singer Dolly Parton rest up? Her tour bus, of course.

Now, thanks to Dollywood, you can book that tour bus (which is called "Gyspy Wagon" by Parton) yourself!

Dollywood recently released photos of the "Gypsy Wagon" to promote a special accommodation the park is offering: up to two guests can stay at least two nights in "Dolly Suite 1986" (aka on the tour bus). The cost to do so begins at $10,000.

Aside from being a wildly successful country music icon, Parton also is a "free-spirited traveler," according to a Dollywood press release — so it's no wonder her tour bus is decorated akin to her personality.

According to that press release, Parton used this tour bus from 2008 to 2022, marking 13 years of traveling across the country. In that stretch of time, she did the most traveling on her 2016 "Pure & Simple" tour, where she visited more than 60 cities in North America.

While the outside of the bus may appear just as an average tour bus (you know, aside from the big, pink "Dolly" sticker), the interior proves to be a wonderfully-curated collection of items and furniture that are so Dolly Parton.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by a sitting area that exudes '70s vibes, complete with antique accessories like a vintage telephone. Don't worry though, there is a modern television!

According to Dollywood, Parton specifically requested the hand-painted murals that adorn the walls in this room.

"These unique paintings of wayfaring wanderers, wagons and crystal balls paint the interpretation of life on the road for the singer," the press release reads.

Then, enter the bedroom, which is by far the most quintessential "Dolly" room you'll probably ever see.

The bedroom boasts lots of jewel-toned accents, such as hot pink and blue wall designs — even the bedding, complete with fuzzy pink pillows, is a signature hot pink.

Her makeup vanity is also on display, complete with a makeup mirror, flowers in a vase and a perfectly-picked pink and purple vanity chair to match.

Open the closet door and guests can get a glimpse of some outfits and accessories the singer has worn.

And the standout detail of the bedroom: Parton's wig cabinet. Parton herself said that her wigs have sort of become her "trademark" over the years, so it's no wonder the singer wants some of them on display for her guests.

Parton's home away from home includes a plethora of design details that perfectly encapsulate who she is. Our only question now is: When do we get to stay?

Dolly Parton's tour bus is fit for a queen, and now you can experience the magic for yourself!

The country music legend has officially retired the tour bus, which she used on the road from 2008 to March 2022.

She's since donated it to Dollywood, where up to two guests can stay in it for a minimum two-night visit, starting at $10,000. A portion of the proceeds from each reservation will be donated to the Dollywood Foundation, which gives free books to children and donates funds to a variety of charitable causes.

Parton spent 13 years on the Prevost bus traveling 360,000 miles across the country, including on her 2016 Pure & Simple Tour.

While on the bus, she wrote her 2008 "Backwoods Barbie" album, and the music and lyrics for "9 to 5: The Musical," along with several other projects.

Among the signature features of the vehicle are a closet for her costumes, full-size refrigerator, bath tub and a wig cabinet.

The bedroom is decorated with a bright pink comforter, colorful pillows and jeweled ceiling decals, while the walls are painted with murals depicting whimsical images of wagons and crystal balls.

"I have homes all over the United States, but my favorite place is the bus because that way I can just feel those wheels rolling," Parton said in a statement.

The bus is parked at Dollywood's DreamMore Resort and Spa and is now called the Dolly Suite 1986.

Dolly Parton reveals heartbreaking reason she won’t tour new album

Dolly Parton has ruled out touring her forthcoming album, saying that these days she prefers to stay closer to home and her husband.

The country music legend, 77, and the infamously reclusive Carl Dean, 80, have been married for almost six decades.

They first met in 1964 on Parton’s first day in Nashville when she was just 18 years-old, and two years later they were engaged.

Parton had originally been due to come to the UK earlier this month but postponed the trip due to Dean suffering an undisclosed health issue.

Adressing this at a rescheduled press conference in London on Thursday, she assured that he is “fine now” but that she’s mindful of both his age and hers when venturing too far from their Tennessee abode.

“The reason I don’t tour now is because I don’t want to be that far away from home,” she explained. “You know, we’re getting older my husband and I, and I’ve got a lot of business that I do at home and the movies that I do now we’re doing out of Atlanta, so we’re close to home.

“I had to cancel [this visit to the UK] once and make it towards the end of the month because my husband was sick at the time. He’s fine now, but you do plan. You make that out of wise choices and I do not plan to tour this album.”

Her spouse was also at the forefront of her mind when making her latest record.

Dean is a die-hard rock fan and, despite being married to the Jolene hitmaker all this time, “can’t stand” country music.

Parton’s debut rock collection Rockstar, which is due for release on November 17, and features a Wrecking Ball cover duet with her goddaughter Miley Cyrus , therefore serves as a love letter to him.

“We’ve been together 59 years and all my life in the car, in the truck, on the tractor, in the house, he’s always blasting rock and roll music and he loves Led Zeppelin and he loves Stairway To Heaven,” she said.

“Years ago, I was doing different covers of rock songs and kind of making them a little bit my own – a little bit country, a little bit bluegrass or whatever. When I said to him that I was gonna do Stairway To Heaven he said ‘Oh, don’t do that, that’s a classic. That’s a big mistake’. He never liked that cover – he called it ‘Stairwell to Hell’!

“But when I played him this whole album which I chose songs that he loved and some of my favourites to make this album, I made him sit down and listen to the whole thing.

“You know, he’s kind of a quiet person and he didn’t say anything. I said there’s 30 songs and he said ‘Well, we’ll take an intermission’. So he did, but at the end he said, ‘It’s really good’, just like that.

“To me, that was like somebody else jumping up and down saying that’s the best thing they’d ever heard. Well, anyway, he was proud of it so that made me feel good.

“I want to please him, to be honest with you – more than anybody else,” she concluded sweetly.

Pitbull Announces Dates for Upcoming Party After Dark Tour with T-Pain and Lil Jon: 'Get Ready'

Mr. Worldwide will play shows in more than 25 cities throughout North America from August through October

Mr. Worldwide is preparing to conquer North America.

On April 23, Pitbull announced his upcoming Party After Dark Tour, set to span over 25 cities in the United States with special guest T-Pain joining throughout the run. Lil Jon will also open for a couple dates.

Kicking off Wednesday, Aug. 21 at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Virginia, the tour will hit cities including New York City, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, Phoenix and more before wrapping on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Isleta Amphitheater in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Tickets will first become available through various presales starting Wednesday, April 24 before the general public gains access on Friday, April 26 at 10 a.m. local time, with more information available on Live Nation's website . VIP packages are also available .

"Get ready! I’m heading your way for the #PartyAfterDarkTour w/ special guest @TPAIN . Tix on sale Friday at 10am. Daleeee," wrote the "Timber" musician, 43, upon the announcement on social media.

T-Pain also took to social media to share the news with fans, writing, "HEY BABY GIRL WHATCHU DOING THIS FALL??? I’m going back on the road with my brother @pitbull ."

Last year, Pitbull released his 12th studio album, Trackhouse , featuring T-Pain on "Lit in the City" and Lil Jon on "JUMPIN." He reissued the project earlier this year with Trackhouse (Daytona 500 Edition) , which included collaborations with artists including Tim McGraw, Nile Rodgers and Dolly Parton.

The three rapper tourmates each worked together prior to their latest link-ups. Pitbull and Lil Jon have released songs including "The Anthem," "Toma," "Culo," "305 Anthem," "Pitbulls Cuban Rideout," "Watagatapitusberry" and "Krazy," while Mr. 305 and T-Pain have earned hits with "Hey Baby (Drop It to the Floor)" and "Shake Señora."

Pitbull last toured North America on The Trilogy Tour in 2023 alongside Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias.

"My mother was... I kind of have a little bit of that," Parton added, suggesting she also possesses the gift of second sight. Intrigued, Fallon asked the country music queen to read his palm. 

"I'm not a fortune teller, but I could try," she responded, grabbing his hand.

"I see you're going to be very successful with a late night talk show," joked Parton as she looked at the lines on his palm. "And that you have a very long... career ahead of you," she continued as the audience laughed.

Things went from psychic to silly when Parton said, "What's that? I think there's a melted M&M in there," and then proceeded to lick his palm.

"I'm framing this! My hand is going in the Smithsonian," exclaimed Fallon, showing off his freshly-licked hand to the audience. Maybe not the Smithsonian, but the Country Music Hall of Fame at the very least.

Jennifer Aniston Channels Dolly Parton as She Looks To Remake the Classic Film ‘9 to 5’

F irst stepping on stage in the 1950s, Dolly Parton shocked audiences with her mesmerizing fashion which caused a great deal of backlash for the singer. But that didn’t stop her from showcasing both her fashion sense and voice. Never letting the criticism stop her, Parton went on to release 49 studio albums. Selling over 100 million albums worldwide, the country icon gained entry into not just the Country Music Hall of Fame but the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While remembered for her contributions to music, she also nurtured a promising career on the silver screen thanks to movies like 9 to 5 . And it appears that her classic film has caught the eyes of none other than Jennifer Aniston. 

Although not a singer, Aniston’s stardom came thanks to her role as Rachel Green on the iconic series Friends . She would go on to star in films like Office Space, Bruce Almighty, We’re the Millers , and Just Go with It . Outside of the box office, the actress also has a production company, Echo Films, that is looking to remake Parton’s 9 to 5 . Given that the original film featured stars like Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Parton, it appears that Aniston is going up against comedy legends. Still, the remake is supposedly being written by Diablo Cody, who wrote Juno . 

With the original film promoting such big names in entertainment, 9 to 5 became an instant classic as the three characters looked to take down their boss. Looking at the box office, 9 to 5 brought in a staggering $100 million, which would be over $300 million today.

Not The First Person To Try And Remake Dolly Parton’s ‘9 To 5’

While Aniston wants to bring a fresh take on the classic, she isn’t the first person to try and remake the film. Back in 2018, reports circulated that a sequel, featuring Rashida Jones, was in the works. But it soon fell apart. In 2019, Parton discussed the potential sequel, telling Entertainment Tonight , “I don’t think we’re going to do the sequel. We never could get the script where it was enough different than the first one, and that one turned out so good.”

As for Aniston’s hopes for the film, only time will tell if she can bring the story to life or if history will repeat itself once again.

Jelly Roll was full of surprises at Stagecoach 2024.

During his wild evening set on the country music festival ‘s opening day Friday (April 26), the “Need a Favor” singer welcomed numerous unexpected guests onto the stage, including T-Pain , Ernest and Maddie & Tae .

Funds raised from the “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” cover will go toward the Toby Keith Foundation, which aids pediatric cancer patients. Keith died earlier this year following a battle with stomach cancer.

Elsewhere during his Stagecoach set, Jelly Roll welcomed collaborator Ernest for a performance of “Son of a Sinner,” which reached No. 1 on Billboard ‘s Country Airplay chart in 2022. Jelly Roll was also joined by Maddie & Tae on what he called a brand new song titled “Liar.” The country duo will perform their own set on Saturday (April 27).

Jelly Roll ended his performance by bringing out his wife, Bunnie XO, and daughter, Bailee Ann, is turning 16 years old. To celebrate her birthday next week, the country star asked the thousands of fans to join him in singing happy birthday.

Earlier in the day, Jelly Roll visited celebrity chef Guy Fieri at the Smokehouse Cooking Demo stage for a cooking lesson.

Stagecoach continues with headlining performances by Miranda Lambert and Morgan Wallen, as well as sets by Elle King, Post Malone, Willie Nelson, Hardy and Bailey Zimmerman, among many others. The festival is streaming live on Prime Video or Amazon Music’s Twitch channel.
