The start of the tour was super smooth and easy, as we just met our guide in the center of Rome, which was simple to get to from our hotel. The golf cart was surprisingly comfortable, and the fact that it’s open-air allowed me to see everything without obstructions.

Our driver was very detailed and friendly and perfect for having kids along as they kept them entertained and involved. I don’t know if this is the case with every guide, but ours had a degree in history and archeology, which added an extra layer of education and interest while visiting these older sites.

We started out at the Colosseum and Arch of Constantine, onto the Piazza di Spagna, Trevi Fountain, and so much more. With the ability to tailor the itinerary and stops, it’s perfect for seeing Rome for the first time or with very limited time.

I’ve seen Rome so many times, that I knew I didn’t want to just see the regular tourist sites for my next tour – I wanted to see the hidden gems that only locals know about!

The Rome Golf Cart Tour, Best Activity in Rome definitely fulfilled that, taking us through the backstreets and many lesser-known sites that were perhaps even more exciting than the big ones.

As this is a completely private tour, however, you get full control of the itinerary beforehand, so you get to choose which landmarks or areas you see.

There is a more affordable option that is not the private tour, in which you still partake in a small group but don’t get to plan the itinerary.

The only other difference between the two is that with the private tour option, they will come pick you right up from your hotel instead of using a meetup point in central Rome.

I selected the private group, and I feel that the customization and the included hotel pickup were well worth the bit of extra cash. Our guide/driver was a wonderful human being, filled with all kinds of information and did a great job safely navigating us around to some of the coolest spots in Rome.

It was much more enriching than simply checking off different sites and learning the cookie-cutter information associated with each one. It’s hard to believe, but I even found the routes that he took to be relaxing, as the backstreets were so quiet and calm.

One of my favorite stops was at the Spanish Steps, which sit between the Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Trinita dei Monti, along with the impressive church at the top, overlooking it all.

Palatine Hill was also really cool to see and learn about, and our guide did a great job explaining the ancient parts and how it was essentially the beginning of all the Roman Empire.

So much knowledge shared, such a different perspective on Rome – I’d definitely recommend this one to anyone who really wants to learn.

Aside from the big sites, we saw charming, traditional shops full of great souvenir opportunities, as well as stops for delicious gelato and espresso.
