Fans want an NSYNC reunion tour — but they'll have to settle for the band's first live performance since 2013 for now

  • NSYNC fans are amped for a reunion tour after the band's recent appearances.
  • In 2023, the group reunited at the MTV Video Music Awards before releasing their first single in 21 years.
  • On Wednesday, the band joined Justin Timberlake onstage during his free Los Angeles concert.

Insider Today

NSYNC performed live for the first time in over a decade, raising questions about whether the band will return for a reunion tour.

On Wednesday, JC Chasez, Lance Bass , Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick made a surprise appearance during Justin Timberlake's free "One Night Only" concert in Los Angeles. The fivesome then performed together for the first time since 2013, running through their popular tracks "Gone," "Girlfriend, "Bye Bye Bye," and "It's Gonna Be Me."

While many NSYNC fans might see this as a sign of the band's intention to reunite, it may not be that simple.

In September 2023, when the five band members appeared onstage at the MTV Video Music Awards to present the award for best pop video to Taylor Swift , fans also took this as a sign that the band might be planning a reunion tour.

Even Swift had questions when she collected her award, asking the group: "Like, are you doing something? What's going to happen now? They're going to do something and I need to know what it is."

Two days later, NSYNC announced via a video post on their Instagram account that they would release their first single in 21 years. But the song, "Better Place," was just part of the soundtrack to a new animated movie, "Trolls Band Together," in which Timberlake stars.

"Better Place" started at No.25 on the Billboard Hot 100 the week of its release in September 2023 before sinking down and disappearing after six weeks.

NSYNC also appeared on the YouTube interview series "Hot Ones" to promote the new track, but no reunion announcement arrived after the movie.

Plus, Timberlake's concert was organized to promote his upcoming album, which will be released on Friday, so the reunion could have been a tactic to promote it.

The last time the complete NSYNC band performed together was during Timberlake's 12-song medley at the 2013 VMAs after he received the Video Vanguard Award.

But the group performed without Timberlake in 2019 when they joined Ariana Grande for a surprise appearance during her Coachella set.

As of yet, there has been no announcement about a reunion tour, but at least NSYNC fans will now have two new songs.

NSYNC's representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

NSYNC reunite at the VMA's

They're back, This I Promise You🎶

19 years after Justin Timberlake left the group and 10 years since their last performance together NSYNC are back! Reunited finally at the Video Music Awards in New Jersey.

Their return was greeted with cheers and enthusiasm when they took to the stage.

Presenting the first award of the night 'Best Pop' they spoke about when they were awarded with Best Pop Video twenty years ago for 'Bye Bye Bye' their first VMA saying "It validated our work".

Receiving the award was Taylor Swift in which she said: “I’m not doing well pivoting from this to this, I had your dolls" Also going on to say that the band were "Pop personified".

When handing over the award to Taylor, she was also handed with an NSYNC friendship bracelet, solidifying her place in pop. Taylor also asked: “Are you doing something? What’s going to happen now?” hoping that one day their will be a proper reunion.

NSYNC split in 2004 when Justin Timberlake left to pursue a solo career but the group got back together a few times to perform for events like the VMA's. Now rumours are circulating suggesting that the band may reunite for a new song that's set to feature in the upcoming Trolls film.

Seeing the group back together is a hope that a full fledged reunion is on the way!

Have a look at other pop band reunions:

Girls aloud.

Girls Aloud, made up of Cheryl Tweedy, Kimberley Walsh, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle, were formed on ITV talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 and went on to become one of the UK's biggest girl groups, famous for songs 'The Promise', 'Sound Of The Underground' and 'Biology'. After reigning supreme at the top of the charts for a number of years, the girls decided to take a hiatus in 2009 to pursue solo projects and promised that they would reunite in 2010 to release another album. Girls Aloud briefly interrupted the hiatus to do two shows supporting Coldplay along with Jay-Z at Wembley Stadium. The studio album never happened, though, and it took three years for Girls Aloud to reunite for the group's 10th anniversary. In 2012, they released single 'Something New', a greatest hits album and a farewell tour called 'TEN'. After the tour, they announced that they had decided to split in a statement released on Twitter. Although the girls had plans to reunite for their 20th anniversary, Sarah Harding was diagnosed with cancer and sadly passed away in 2021, with the girls admitting at the time they were in the right mindset. In November 2023, Cheryl, Kimberley, Nicola and Nadine confirmed plans of a 2024, which will be 'celebration of Sarah'. The tour will see the band play dates in the UK and Ireland across May and June 2024.

In March 2023, Busted announced they would be reuniting to celebrate their 20th anniversary. Known for hits such as '3AM' and 'Crashed the Wedding', the band started in 2000, before having a hiatus between 2005 and 2015. Busted reunited in 2015, before starting another hiatus in 2019, but as of 2023 they are back with an arena tour planned in September 2023.

Even though Take That's split in 1996 caused many heartbroken fans to take the day off school (a helpline was also created), they DELIGHTED us all in 2005 when they confirmed that they will be 'back for good' with comeback single 'Patience'. Even though Robbie Williams has made a few appearances with the group since the comeback (he originally refused to come back after he left in 1995), Take That currently consists of Howard Donald, Mark Owen and Gary Barlow. Jason Orange also left the band for good in 2014. Take That are still very much together and their comeback is considered to be one of the most successful of all time.

Irish boyband Boyzone made their way into our hearts when they were formed in 1993, but it was single 'Love Me For A Reason', released in 1994, that broke them into the British charts. The band was originally made up of Keith Duffy alongside Michael Graham, Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch and the late Stephen Gately – who sadly died in 2009 aged 33. Boyzone split in 1999 to pursue solo projects. They did a brief tour in Ireland in early January 2000 before going their separate ways. They reformed in 2007, announcing a tour for the following year. Boyzone toured again in 2009, their last as a five. In 2018, Boyzone released album 'Thank You and Goodnight' with artists Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran writing for the band's final album which also marked their 25-year anniversary. Despite the band saying they will be splitting for good following their 'Thank You and Goodnight' tour, lead singer Ronan Keating has admitted that the Boyzone book will never be fully closed and there's even talk of a Boyzone movie!

Jonas Brothers

Disney channel favourites the Jonas Brothers, made up of Joe, Nick and Kevin, enjoyed HUGE success when they burst on the pop/rock scene in 2005 but they also endured a lot of drama. In 2013, brothers Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas decided to take a hiatus from the group and cancelled 23 tour dates between October and December, citing a "deep rift within the band" over "creative differences." Then in February 2019, the Jonas Brothers announced their comeback via social media and released single 'Sucker'. Jonas Brothers have continued to release music since reforming and in 2023 they are set to perform a one-off gig in London for fans called One Night Only Jonas Brothers.

Spice Girls

Girl Power ruled the 90s, didn't it? The Spice Girls, made up of Mel B, Mel C, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham, ruled the charts until 1998 when Geri decided to leave citing exhaustion and creative differences. The group's final album, 'Forever' was released in 2000. The band have made three comebacks since, first in 2007 and 2012 with Victoria Beckham and again in 2019 without her. To mark the 25th anniversary of debut single 'Wannabe', an EP was released in July 2021 that included previously unreleased demos. The Spice Girls then released 'Spice25', a deluxe reissue of Spice featuring previously unreleased demos and remixes.

Steps, made up of Claire Richards, Faye Tozer, Ian 'H' Watkins, Lee Latchford-Evans and Lisa Scott-Lee, delighted fans in 2020 when they announced their comeback - 23 years after their music debut. The band exploded onto the pop music scene in 1997 with hits such as 'Tragedy' and '5,6,7,8'. They even supported Britney Spears on tour in the US in 1999. However, the band shocked everyone on Boxing Day in 2001 when they announced that they had split. They briefly reunited in 2011 and 2012 to perform a 12-date arena tour. They then promised fans that there was new music to come. It took a few years, but the band released their fifth studio album, Tears on the Dancefloor, on 21st April 2017. The group are now back having released seven studio albums to date.

Known for songs 'Swear It Again', 'If I Let You Go' and 'Flying Without Wings', Irish group Westlife, who were originally made up of Nicky Byrne, Brian McFadden, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, and Shane Filan formed in 1998. However, in 2004, Brian decided to leave the band to spend more time with his family and has no plans to rejoin the group despite being on 'good terms' with the boys. Before their split in 2011, the group released 13 albums, embarked on 12 world tours, earned 28 platinum discs and sold more than 55 million records across the globe. In October 2018, Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily, and Shane Filan reunited on the band's 20th anniversary and released comeback album 'Spectrum' with the help of Ed Sheeran. They also announced a huge tour including two Belfast dates and a massive gig at Croke Park. In November 2021, the boys released their album 'Wild Dreams' before going on tour in 2022.

Swedish pop legends ABBA never actually split, but they 'parted ways' after winning Eurovision with 'Waterloo' in 1974 and quickly rising to global stardom. In 2018, the band announced they were going to be releasing brand new music for the first time in 35 years. The band, made up of Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, announced the exciting news on Instagram. In 2021, the new music was finally released and named a new project 'ABBA Voyage'. The band released an album called 'Voyage' on 5th November 2021, with tracks 'I Still Have Faith In You' and 'Don't Shut Me Down'.

Backstreet Boys

American boy band Backstreet Boys, made up of Nick Carter, A.J. McLean, Kevin Richardson, Brian Littrell and Howie Dorough, ruled the charts in the late 90s with hits such as 'I Want It That Way' and 'Everybody'. In 2006, Kevin decided to leave the band to pursue other interests and although the band continued without him, it took until 2012 for Kevin to rejoin them. The group enjoyed another stint at the top of the charts when they celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2013 and have since made surprise comebacks every few years to the delight of their fans. In 2023, the boys are on their 'DNA' tour.

Destiny's Child

Made up Beyoncé Knowles, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland, Destiny's Child's biggest hits included 'Survivor', 'Say My Name' and 'Bills, Bills, Bills'. The group went their separate ways following a farewell performance at the 2006 NBA All-Star Game and went on to have solo careers. However, the girls are still close and have reunited a couple of times over the years, including at Beyonce's 2013 Super Bowl performance and again at Coachella in 2018. Speaking about the group's unbreakable bond, Beyoncé told Entertainment Tonight: "It's 20 years. We've known each other for so long and the industry doesn't really make friendships. It's the nature of it, and we still have each other after all these years."

With Number 1 songs like 'C'est la Vie', 'Rollercoaster', 'To You I Belong' and 'Blame It on the Weatherman', Irish girl group B*Witched enjoyed a huge amount of success in the 90s. 25 years later twin sisters Edele and Keavy Lynch, along with Lindsay Armaou and Sinéad O'Carroll, announced they would be reuniting to celebrate their 25th anniversary and releasing a new song called 'Birthday'.

The X Factor has produced some pretty impressive groups over the years. In 2008, all singing and dancing JLS, consisting of Aston Merrygold, Marvin Humes, Oritse Williams and JB Gill, were born. The four-piece enjoyed huge success with singles 'Beat Again' and 'Everybody in Love' but announced their intention to split in 2013 with a farewell tour and compilation album. The boys delighted fans in 2020 when they revealed plans to reunite after seven years apart. However, their comeback 'Beat Again' tour was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic and was rescheduled to October 2021. The band have now announced another tour called: 'EVERYBODY SAY JLS: The Hits Tour'.

Back in the late 90s and early 2000s seven-piece pop group S Club 7, made up of Rachel Stevens, Hannah Spearritt, Tina Barrett, Jo O'Meara, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh and the late Paul Cattermole, ruled the charts. The band defined late '90s to early '00 pop music but sadly announced that they were splitting in 2003 (live on stage). The group reunited for a brief tour in 2015, during which they released the previously unheard song 'Rain' but we've had no new music since. Then, in 2020, Tina hinted that the band are "up for" getting back together after she thought that Giovanna Fletcher's choice to play the band's hit song 'Reach' as her luxury item on this years I'm A Celebrity was a "sign". In February 2023, the news that fans have been waiting for was confirmed, with the original line-up would be reuniting for a reunion tour set to take place in October 2023. Sadly in April it was announced that Paul had died, at present the band have not released a statement about their tour.

Atomic Kitten

Girl band Atomic Kitten were a regular feature in the charts in the 90s and 00s, with hits like 'Whole Again' and 'The Tide Is High'. The line-up changed over the years, but has included Liz McClarnon, Natasha Hamilton, Jenny Frost, Kerry Katona and Heidi Range. Kerry made headlines in 2002 when she announced that she would be leaving the band to focus on marriage and family. They officially split in 2004, but came back on stage for a reunion in 2014. In 2020, band members Natasha and Liz delighted England football fans during the World Cup with their rendition of 'Whole Again', changing the lyrics in praise of manager Gareth Southgate. The lyrics were changed to: "Looking back on when we first met / I cannot escape and I cannot forget / Southgate, you're the one / You still turn me on / Football's coming home again". They released the song as a single and even performed it at Boxpark in London to fans.

Original Sugababes members Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhan Doherty formed in the 90s and the group continued releasing hits throughout the 00s, until each of the original woman had left the band and was replaced by someone else. Keisha, Mutya and Siobhan reunited to form a band called MKS but sadly it never took off, and they have focused on their solo careers since. But all these years later they took to Instagram to announce they were getting back together! The group announced that they are reuniting for the first time in 21 years to play at Glastonbury festival 2022.

Cheeky Girls

The Cheeky Girls were big in the early 00s with songs like 'The Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum)', 'Hooray! Hooray! It's a Cheeky Holiday' and 'Take Your Shoes Off', but it all went quiet after 2007 and they stopped making music together. To everyone's surprise the twins announced in April 2022 that they were back with a brand new single called 'Let's Have Fun'!

Blue became household names back in the early 00s with hits like 'All Rise', 'One Love' and 'Fly By' - however the band, consisting of Antony Costa, Duncan James, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe, left fans gutted when they announced a hiatus in late 2004. However, in May 2022, fans were buzzing when they boys announced they were getting back together. With comeback track 'Haven't Found You Yet', featuring on their new album 'Heart & Soul', Blue also went on tour in 2022!

NSYNC were best-known for their huge hits, 'I Want You Back', 'Bye Bye Bye' and 'Girlfriend' with Nelly, the group officially split in 2007, however they have reformed occasionally for special events. In September 2023 they released their first new music in more than 20 years. The song was called 'Better Place' and features on the new Trolls movie, Trolls Band Together.

Will there be an NSYNC reunion tour? New music fuels comeback rumours

nsync tour uk 2023

Earlier this month, NSYNC sent fans into meltdown when they shared a teaser of a new song that’s expected to drop on September 29.

The 90s boyband, made up of JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone , Lance Bass, and Justin Timberlake , have been fuelling rumours of a comeback after they came together at the recent MTV VMAs .

Since then, the heartthrobs have confirmed they’ve been in the studio and working on a new track called Better Place, which was created for Timberlake’s new film, Trolls Band Together.

The last time NSYNC released an album was way back in 2001. However, given all the new work they’ve been doing, some fans are hopeful that a reunion tour could also be on the cards.

NSYNC hasn’t publicly addressed rumours of a tour - but here’s all we know about what the band have been working on.

nsync tour uk 2023

Is NSYNC working on new music?

NYSYNC recently came together at the MTV VMAs to present Taylor Swift with the Best Pop Award. The whole group haven’t actually been together since 2018, so this was a huge moment for NSYNC fans even though the band didn’t perform.

Then, Timberlake took to social media to share a video of the band working together in the studio on a new track. It turns out this is going to form part of the soundtrack for Trolls Band Together.

Alongside the post, he wrote: “When the stars align… got my brothers back together in the studio to work on something fun and the energy was special. Better Place is coming 9/29 LOVE Y’ALL.”

In the clip, one of NSYNC can be heard saying “who’s ready for a reunion?” before the group gets to work on recording the music.

While the band seemed excited about promoting the new song, it’s unlikely to evolve into an album at this time. According to Lance, because of ongoing SAG-AFRA strikes in Hollywood, they haven’t promoted the film or the song.

“It was kind of bittersweet because we did have bigger plans for this song,” Lance told E! News .

“Unfortunately, there is a SAG strike and, in solidarity with WGA and SAG, we’re not able to promote the film and song. We were supposed to perform it.”

Will there be an NSYNC reunion tour?

Again, there’s been plenty of speculation about whether NSYNC might take this opportunity to kickstart a reunion tour. Naturally, their loyal fans are hopeful that this could become a reality.

However, a tour seems unlikely at this stage and several band members have played down the idea of it happening anytime soon.

Speaking at the 90s Con in Tampa, Joey Fatone told the audience: “No, I don’t know if there is a tour!” before adding: “If the fans want it that much yell at the companies, yell at Sony, yell at them.”

Another spanner in the works is a rumour of an upcoming solo tour for Timberlake in 2024. The artist is said to be working on a new album and is expected to hit the tour route in the coming year.

This means that any hopes of an NSYNC comeback are unlikely throughout next year as the band are busy with other commitments.

When did NSYNC last perform together?

NSYNC was born in 1995 when the five performers soared to the top of the charts with iconic tunes such as Bye Bye Bye .

During their time as a band, they released three studio albums and were also nominated for multiple Grammys. However, the group decided to go on hiatus in 2002 before eventually parting ways permanently.

Throughout the years, the group have come together on multiple occasions but talk of a reunion never materialised.

The last time the five artists came together to perform onstage was in 2013. Since then, the group have appeared without Justin Timberlake on several occasions.

*NSYNC coming together in Los Angeles last night follows on from the rumours of a reunion, after the band reunited at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, presenting Taylor Swift with the Best Pop award at the start of the ceremony.

The moment marked the first time they had all appeared together in a public setting since 2018, when they were presented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Up until last night, the last time they had performed together was back in 2013, when they took to the stage after Timberlake received the Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMAs.

‘Paradise’ – which they played as the penultimate song at the Wiltern Theater show – features on Justin Timberlake’s latest album ‘Everything I Thought It Was’ , which is set for release tomorrow (March 15).

Before then, the last track the band released together was the single ‘Better Place’, which was made for the 2023 film Trolls Band Together , and marked their first music together in over 20 years.

Timberlake teased the boy band reunion at the end of January , when he appeared as a guest on Kelly Clarkson’s talk show. “We’ve been in the studio… So there may be a little something in the future,” he said.

Joey Fatone, Lance Bass, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, and Chris Kirkpatrick of *NSYNC speak onstage the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards at Prudential Center on September 12, 2023 in Newark, New Jersey.

Just a month prior, Lance Bass also added fuel to the rumours , making an appearance on the online gameshow Rent Free and saying that the band had been “talking about” getting back together.

At time of writing, there are no further *NSYNC plans that have been confirmed, and Timberlake is gearing up to embark on a world tour for his new album.

‘Everything I Thought It Was’ will be his sixth studio LP and the follow-up to 2018’s ‘Man Of The Woods’ . He has been promoting the album for a number of months now, and has already dropped singles including ‘Selfish’ , ‘Sanctified’ and ‘Drown’.

An ’NSync Reunion Tour? The Timing Couldn’t Be Better

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

Taylor Swift spoke for millions of ’NSync fans all across the globe last week when the reunited quartet presented her with the Best Pop Award at the MTV Video Music Awards. “Are you doing something?” she asked them. “What’s going to happen now? There’s something they’re going to… They’re going to do something. And I need to know what it is.”

“Better Place” also invites an obvious question: Are they going to tour? If Timberlake decides to do that, since it’s fairly clear the matter rests entirely in his hands, the reunited band would pack arenas and possibly even stadiums all over the world. We also think it would be a very good idea for everyone involved. Here are eight reasons why.

Justin Timberlake Could Use a Reboot

Editor’s picks, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

Even after the public apology, Timberlake’s reputation took a definite hit . An ’NSync reunion tour is a perfect chance to remind people why they fell in love with him in the first place. The moment they kick into “Tearing Up My Heart” on night one, a warm bath of nostalgia will wash away any mixed feelings for the fans in that room. He’ll once again be the Justin that Taylor Swift and millions of others from her generation had pinned to their bedroom walls.

They’re Still Friends

It Doesn’t Need To Be All About the Past

When Paul Simon finally folded and agreed to a Simon and Garfunkel reunion show in 1981, he didn’t want it be a strict Sixties nostalgia affair. That’s why they played Simon solo songs from more recent years, like “American Tune,” “Still Crazy After All These Years,” “Late in the Evening” and even “The Late Great Johnny Ace,” a brand-new one. Simon found a way to incorporate Garfunkel’s voice into his solo work, and he gave Garfunkel a moment of his own to sing his solo song “A Heart in New York.” Beyonce did something similar when Destiny’s Child reunited at Beyonce’s 2013 Super Bowl halftime show, where Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joined Beyonce for a wild rendition of “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).” Imagine ‘N Sync lending their voices to Justin solo favorites like “Rock Your Body,” “My Love,” and “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” — or maybe even a new hit. Doesn’t that sound fun?

It Would Be Great for the Other Four Guys , Too

It Could Even Lead to a New Album

The results are in: kendrick lamar won the great rap war, trump posts — then deletes — rant about stormy daniels testifying, everything that's happened in the drake-kendrick beef, tommy lee wins round in helicopter sexual assault lawsuit, justin timberlake doesn’t have to stop making solo music.

Comparing ’NSync to Pavement is absurd for about 78 different reasons. Let’s do it anyway. Stephen Malkmus first reunited with Pavement in 2010 after a decade-long break. They took off another 12 years before going back out in 2022 for their second reunion tour, which just wrapped. This didn’t mean he walked away from his solo career at any point. He kept making albums and touring on his own the entire time. It’s possible to have a musical career on two different tracks, with one focused on the past and the other focused on the present. And the Pavement reunions have done nothing but remind fans of Malkmus’ genius. They’ve rewarded fans of his old work and helped boost his solo career too. The same thing could happen with ’NSync. As soon as their reunion tour ends, Justin would have a ton of momentum he could transfer to his solo career. It would be a genuine win/win.

Joey Fatone talks about the possibility of a new NSync album and tour

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

NSync band member Joey Fatone discusses how Justin Timberlake came to the band with a new song, how Justin left the group and about the possibility of a new NSync album and tour — but urges fans to be patient.

Video Transcript

LYNDSEY PARKER: So this NSYNC reunion has been happening since-- it's been at least in talks since, I believe, March. How did you keep the best kept secret in show business for six months?

JOEY FATONE: I don't know it's been quite a fun little thing to do. A lot of people are not happy. They were asking me, like, what's going on? I'm like, why do you need to know right now? Everybody needs to know. It's like, let it happen. Just let it happen. If it's going to happen, let it happen. So for us, I mean, I guess Justin came up to us about the idea and just kind of obviously talked about the song and said, hey, I love this song. This is part of this A, B, C, and D. It only fit right for us to do this together as a group.

I think the message, the meaning, everything, just all around everything I think came to him because you got to really think about it too. He's the youngest one of the group, in general, though. Think about it this way. He is at the top pinnacle of his career for many years now. And there's nothing wrong with that. Nobody's upset about that. We all love it. And we all support it.

When you're going to go backwards, do you think you want to go backwards? Would you want to split it four ways with other people again or do your business that you did and you built up your own business to yourself now?

LYNDSEY PARKER: So there's no resentment from you about the fact that--

JOEY FATONE: Why?

LYNDSEY PARKER: --it took this long? I don't know. I'm asking you. No?

JOEY FATONE: No. That's the beautiful part about it. No, not for me. Me, personally, no, I can't because my career and my life led me somewhere else. And I'm good. And I've been happy with it.

LYNDSEY PARKER: Well, see, I've read-- this is your chance to tell me if what I've read is correct or not--

JOEY FATONE: I will be happy to.

LYNDSEY PARKER: --that you guys, or at least you, were blindsided by the-- that you guys were blindsided by the breakup or that you didn't see it coming.

JOEY FATONE: Not blindsided by the breakup. I was more blindsided by what they were doing as far as him coming out with music and not knowing that he was going to go and do an actual album tour thing. It was more of, hey, I'm going to do some music, and then we'll get back together. That's what that was. And it wasn't him. It was the record company. If it was him, then I'd understand it. But as you're younger, you think it's that person. But then you look at the whole big scheme of things, you go, oh, that is why I wasn't there for that. Oh, that is why that-- oh. And that's the business. OK, I get it.

LYNDSEY PARKER: So when we went off to do--

JOEY FATONE: I look at the business and get it.

LYNDSEY PARKER: So when Justin went off to do "Justified," you thought that was just at that time an indefinite hiatus or a hiatus?

JOEY FATONE: No. We thought he was just going to go out and just come back after the tour, like, OK. And then when he went on tour and then things started going, I was like, all right, I'll go do Broadway. So that's when I did Broadway. I started doing "Dancing with the Stars." I started hosting TV shows. And I started doing my own thing. And that was what led me-- I always wanted to do Broadway. And that's what led me to do that in that route. And that's basically it.

LYNDSEY PARKER: So I want to-- with all the fanfare, all the excitement everyone's having, people have been watching this reunion forever. They've been wanting it since the 2013 VMAs, since Coachella 2019. They've been wanting it forever. Everyone's so excited about this now. Everyone wants a tour. Everyone wants an album.

JOEY FATONE: Yeah, OK. That takes time, right?

LYNDSEY PARKER: Get on it. We've all been waiting.

JOEY FATONE: How much time do you think? How much time do you think?

LYNDSEY PARKER: A good amount of time. You don't want to rush things. But we've been waiting a while.

JOEY FATONE: Have you ever recorded a song before?

LYNDSEY PARKER: I have not.

JOEY FATONE: OK. Depending on it, it takes a day, maybe two. But if you're doing a whole album, you got about 13 or 14 songs. Then you want to do about probably 30 or 40 because you don't know which ones you really want to pick. And now, you've got five other guys that got to figure out what's going on. That's just the music itself. Then you've got to figure out a tour. Think about how long Taylor Swift's tour probably took to build.

LYNDSEY PARKER: She would probably open for you on tour, she was so excited to see you the VMAs.

JOEY FATONE: That'd be amazing. I hope she does.

LYNDSEY PARKER: She would probably do it. You have a talk with Hella Good about sponsoring the Taylor Swift NSYNC tour in 20-- maybe 25. Let's be-- I'll be patient, 2025.

JOEY FATONE: See, that's a realist. Again, you never know. And I can actually say, you know what? That's a possibility. '25, that's a possibility. But you know what? There's four other guys that I have to talk to you about that.

LYNDSEY PARKER: Is it vindicating in a way? Because I'm talking about the female fans. It's kind of a layered question. But I always feel when boy bands or any artist that has a lot of female fans doesn't get respect, there's kind of an inherent misogyny about it. They're like, oh, girls like them. But now, everybody is like, yay, NSYNC's back. It must kind of feel good to be like-- to see this, to feel this love.

JOEY FATONE: Well, it's a combination of everything in the sense of-- and you really look at it because you look at it from either an artist standpoint or just kind of a fad standpoint, as far as a boy band vocal group, these guys don't know singing, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But then you look and you break down our history and what we've done in our-- how we are as musicians and singing and our harmonies and all this, blah, blah, blah.

We can go on forever for that stuff. Now that people are going into, what I'm saying, going into the pro tools and going into even dissecting vocals now, people are trying to pull just to hear who's singing what now. I've been getting messages listening from our track from the song. People are dissecting the song. They go, OK, well, Joey's singing this part. Chris is singing this. Lance is singing.

They're legitimately going in and-- nobody does that back in the day. They go, oh, that's great music I love the tune. They don't do that. Kids are doing that now, which is amazing to me. And it's brilliant. They're dissecting these chords, which is really cool to do. And they're overanalyzing and understanding it and trying to get the method or formula of a song. And it's interesting now that people are honestly appreciating it now.

*NSYNC Reunite at 2023 VMAs, Present Best Pop Award to Taylor Swift

Their first time sharing the stage together in a decade

*NSYNC Reunite at 2023 VMAs, Present Best Pop Award to Taylor Swift

All five members of *NSYNC — Chris Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, JC Chasez, and Justin Timberlake — reunited onstage for the first time in a decade at the 2023 MTV VMAs on Tuesday night (September 12th).

The group was on hand to announce the winner for Best Pop, which went to Taylor Swift. For her part, Swift was overwhelmed by the prospect of sharing the stage with *NSYNC. “I had your dolls,” Swift proclaimed. “What’s going to happen now? They’re doing something and I need to know what it is. You’re pop personified!”

The last time we got a proper *NSYNC reunion was in 2013 for Timberlake’s Video Vanguard Award medley. In 2019, all members but Timberlake joined Ariana Grande to perform “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored” and “Tearin’ Up My Heart” during her headlining Coachella set. Earlier this week, fans began speculating that *NSYNC would link up at the 2023 VMAs when Timberlake, Fatone, and Bass were all spotted around New York City.

As for what’s next? Reports suggest *NSYNC have recorded new music for the upcoming Trolls Band Together soundtrack. Posters for the film were put up around New York, featuring the “N” of *NSYNC’s classic logo, along with a QR code that lets you listen to a trolls-esque tune .

NSYNC reunites at 2023 VMAs with no songs attached

After a month of speculation, the boy band reunited, but only to present.

Jillian Sederholm is Entertainment Weekly's news director and co-host of EW's 'BINGE' podcast covering every season of 'RuPaul's Drag Race.' Follow her on Twitter at @JillianSed to geek out over 'SNL,' guess every celeb on 'The Masked Singer,' or discuss Christian Bale's entire filmography in intricate detail (have you noticed all the dancing?)

Boy band fans have been waiting patiently for the reunion of Justin Timberlake 's alma mater, and it finally happened (kind of) when NSYNC hit the stage together at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards .

Fittingly, the group last performed together in public at the VMAs in 2013. But this time there was no music involved. The quintet reunited at Tuesday's live show, presenting the Best Pop award, which went to Taylor Swift .

Upon accepting the award from the group, a visibly shook Swift, who admitted to having dolls of the group growing up, said what we all were thinking, "Are you doing something? What's gonna happen now? They're gonna do something and I need to know what it is." The group played coy as the pop star continued, "You guys are pop personified so to receive this from your golden pop hands is really, it's too much."

By the end of the evening, it was clear that Swift's question of "What's gonna happen now?" had no answer as the group didn't appear again, although Timberlake did have a memorable run-in with Megan Thee Stallion backstage.

While the Backstreet Boys — the Megadeth to NSYNC's Metallica — have embarked upon world tours in 2019-20 and over the last two years, NSYNC has been quiet for a decade. And, really, they'd gone silent for six years prior to that.

Their VMAs reunion is the culmination of more than a month of speculation about NSYNC reuniting in the near future. The rumors were kicked off by, of all things, Trolls.

Timberlake has been a staple of the Trolls movies, voicing Branch, one of the main characters, in Trolls , Trolls World Tour , and the upcoming Trolls Band Together , as well as some of its streaming releases.

In the upcoming movie, Branch discovers a long-lost brother, who reveals they used to have a family band called BroZone. The trailer's deluge of boy band references had fans speculating that Lance Bass , JC Chasez , Joey Fatone , and Chris Kirkpatrick —the other four members of NSYNC — would join Timberlake for a song in the movie.

The Trolls Band Together trailer shows BroZone covering the BeeGees (as NSYNC did at the 2003 Grammys ) and the Backstreet Boys. They also drop hints in the trailer, like one brother shouting, "Branch, we're out of sync." There has also been a cascade of teases unleashed on social media by the members not named Justin.

So, when members of the group were spotted around New York in the lead-up to Tuesday's VMAs, speculation ratcheted up to 11. If there is anything more to the reunion beyond the VMAs and Trolls , that will make Timberlake a very busy man in 2023. NSYNC reunited, Reptile will be released on Netflix in October , Trolls Band Together hits theaters in November, and he's probably singing "Just Got Paid" to himself on repeat.

2023 mtv video music awards show

There really are no words to properly express what just happened, so we’ll keep it brief: *NSYNC reunited at the 2023 Video Music Awards.

After weeks of TikTok conspiracies taking over social media (hinting at different scenarios, like an *NSYNC reunion tour or a comeback album), one theory proved true: Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick came together onstage once again. The five men looked incredibly suave in sleek suits as they thanked MTV and their longtime fans for continuing to listen to their music over the years, even though they haven’t released a full album since 2001’s Celebrity .

The ’90s hearthrobs were the first presenters of the night, eventually awarding Taylor Swift with the award for Best Pop music video. Much like us, Swift fangirled at the top of her acceptance speech, expressing how she had always loved the group’s music and even admitting to having their popular dolls decades back.

Justin Timberlake also shared a behind-the-scenes clip of the boys all together minutes after they took the stage.

“So five guys walk into an elevator…” he wrote alongside the quick video, which featured the bandmates laughing together ahead of their televised surprise.

*NSYNC Reunites at 2023 VMAs: Here’s What Happened

The long-rumored, decade-in-the-making reunion turned into reality on the VMAs stage, where the boy band gave out an award to none other than Taylor Swift.

For the first time in 10 years, Justin, JC, Joey, Lance and Chris hit the stage together — and it happened to be the same awards show stage where they last performed.

Here Are the 2023 MTV VMAs Winners

*NSYNC reunited at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards on Tuesday night (Sept. 12), presenting the award for Best Pop at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. The reunion marked the first time that Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick were onstage together since the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.

*NSYNC presented Best Pop to Taylor Swift , whom Timberlake called “unstoppable” onstage, for the music video for “Anti-Hero.” Swift took the VMAs after being shown visibly stunned by the onstage reunion, and gave all five members of *NSYNC a big hug — and received a trademark friendship bracelet from Bass.

“I had your dolls!” she exclaimed after receiving the award. “You’re pop personified, so to receive this from your golden pop hands is really too much!”

In August 2013, Timberlake received the Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMAs , and performed a career-spanning, 12-song medley that included “Bye Bye Bye” and “Girlfriend” alongside his *NSYNC brethren. Since then, the quintet reunited in 2018 to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in 2019, the group (sans Timberlake) joined Ariana Grande for a surprise appearance during her Coachella headlining set.

*NSYNC — responsible for smashes like “Bye Bye Bye,” “It’s Gonna Be Me,” “Girlfriend” and “I Want You Back” — has not released an album since 2001’s Billboard 200-topping Celebrity . Although the group is rumored to have recorded new music for Trolls Band Together , with Timberlake reprising his starring role in the animated movie, the upcoming film was reportedly not promoted during the telecast due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.

Justin Timberlake Readying New Solo Tour After It Emerges No NSYNC Tour Is In The Works

nsync tour uk 2023

Justin Timberlake  hit headlines this week after NSYNC reunited at the MTV VMAs 2023 and announced plans for new music.

However, it appears the lion’s share of the singer’s focus is squarely on his solo career.

Full story below…

Demand for NSYNC has reached a fever pitch after the Pop quintet unveiled plans to release the new song ‘Better Place’ – from the ‘Trolls Band Together’ movie soundtrack.

As reported, though, sources confirmed that that will be the upper limit of the group’s activity – with no new album, tour, or residency in the works.

What is coming, however, is a JT solo tour.

According to Billboard , Timberlake “has holds on [2024] dates at arenas in North America for a major run”

Citing a source close to developments, the report adds that the dates tally with an incoming album from the star – whose last LP. ‘Man of the Woods,’ was largely left out in the woods by listeners upon its release in 2018.

This also aligns with Timbaland ‘s recent spill on the 42-year-old prepping a new LP featuring his productions for early 2024.

As for where that leaves the notion of squeezing more out of the NSYNC reunion, it’s been claimed that the idea of a Timberlake-less, four-man setup had been floated. Particularly after the remaining members performed alongside Ariana Grande at Coachella 2019 . However, word is that the band is in agreement that any such reunion offer would need to include all members to be considered viable.

On the one hand, Justin is grown and successful enough to proceed with the path that he sees fit. And if solo is his vibe at present, then he definitely has the right to do as he chooses.

However, through a pure brand vs. brand lens, one could argue that there’s more stock in NYSNC in the here and now than JT solo.

He didn’t necessarily leave off on the highest note. For, while the ‘Man of the Woods Tour’ did well, the album was a non-event. Similarly, his ill-advised, Janet Jackson-less Super Bowl headlining slot in 2018 did way more harm than good (in the long run).

By contrast, nostalgia is bigger business than ever at present and could give JT the bump of positivity needed to then go on and revisit his solo endeavors after.

As for a four-piece NSYNC? We wouldn’t be mad at it. Throw JC Chasez a headset and Justin’s parts alongside his own and we’d be good to go.

Whatever the case, we imagine we’ll see more from NSYNC at some point down the line. But before then, it looks like Mr. Timberlake is set to take another swing of the bat. Are you excited for his return? As ever, let us know…

Give the fans what they want! We ain’t gonna be here forever & NSYNC tour would smash arenas/stadiums worldwide! Stop faking the funk JT😎

' src=

Nah we don’t want this. It’s a hard NO for me.

' src=

Of course he’s like Kandi and Beyonce they think they just too big for those groups anymore. I know Kandi did some stuff with the other 3 but she didn’t really want to haha

' src=

Justin is a superstar! His solo tour will still do great! A Nsync tour would do incredible! Also, while his last album wasn’t as big as his others, it was still a success to a different degree. It had a top ten and is gold or platinum. His Super Bowl performance was actually good. He has a loyal and big following.

' src=

Nothing else worked, so he humbled himself and used his bandmates again for self gain. It did the trick as far as creating the excitement that his song with Tim and Nelly was supposed to do.

' src=

Justin, you need to crossover to Gen Z to make this tour the huge success you want it to be. Kylie Minogue and Shakira defied the odds and did it in 2023. Hopefully the lead single is a big comeback hit and has tik tok appeal.

' src=

Justin is too self-absorbed to allow his group mates any degree of success that could rival his own as a solo artist. NSync could be a force to be reckoned with again with the right song (like Bye x3, not Gone). I doubt this Trolls song will do the trick tho. Too bad Justin’s ego has to ruin the other guys chance to enjoy the limelight and a fat payday. JC, Joey, Lance and Chris deserve better. I hope Justin’s tour flops!

' src=

He really thinks too highly of himself. Yes he has talent but the greatness was from the whole group. They were all talented. He needs to quit being a sell out and give back to the group that helped make him who he is.

' src=

This aged like f***ing MILK. Britney ENDED Justin’s plans to return to Music. He is COMPLETELY over. God thing he loves his child (this time around, anyways) cause being a father is all that’s left for him

About Nsync

NSYNC (, / ɪ n -/ ; also stylized as *NSYNC or ' N Sync ) was an American boy band formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1995 and launched in Germany by BMG Ariola Munich. NSYNC consisted of Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass. Their self-titled debut album was successfully released to European countries in 1997, and later debuted in the US market with the single "I Want You Back".

After heavily publicized legal battles with their former manager Lou Pearlman and former record label Bertelsmann Music Group, the group's second album, No Strings Attached (2000), sold over one million copies in one day and 2.42 million copies in one week, which was a record for over fifteen years. NSYNC's first two studio albums were both certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Celebrity (2001) debuted with 1.8 million copies in its first week in the US. Singles such as "Bye Bye Bye", "This I Promise You", "Girlfriend", "Pop" and "It's Gonna Be Me" reached the top 10 in several international charts, with the last being a US Billboard Hot 100 number one. In addition to a host of Grammy Award nominations, NSYNC has performed at the World Series, the Super Bowl and the Olympic Games, and sang or recorded with Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Phil Collins, Celine Dion, Aerosmith, Nelly, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, Mary J. Blige, country music supergroup Alabama, and Gloria Estefan. The group has received eight Grammy Award nominations.

NSYNC last recorded new material in 2002. The five members have reunited a couple of times, including at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards and to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The band completed five nationwide concert tours and has sold over 70 million records, becoming one of the best-selling boy bands in history. Rolling Stone recognized their instant success as one of the Top 25 Teen Idol Breakout Moments of all time. Justin Timberlake went on to become a ten-time Grammy Award winner throughout his solo career.
