We had the best time! Highly recommend the Farm to Table adventure with Andy for so many reasons. He was on top of every detail and partnered with us to make sure it was a super special birthday celebration. The ride was majestic- not too difficult- and so peaceful. The farms were all lovely- soul filling! If you are looking for a special experience that's active and outdoorsy, look no further! Thank you so much, Andy and John. This event exceeded our expectations. You did such an amazing job- making sure it was fun, memorable and safe. Loved every minute of it!
Thank you NJ Bike Tours for another wonderful biking adventure. I booked your Beaches & Cream tour to celebrate my husband's birthday- and invited friends to join us. I can't say enough good things about our experience, but will try: 1) The tour itself was magnificent- perfect distance, scenery, and level of difficulty (mostly flat.) 2) Andy, our Guide was on top of every detail so all we had to do was show up and have fun. Andy provided water, procured snacks/coffee, provided a super lunch, and ensured our safety at all times. In summary- this is the kind of thing you often think about doing ("Let's go for a bike ride!") but then you... don't! NJ Bike Tours holds the space for you to "be here now" and makes sure all the little details add up to BIG fun. Highly recommend! Best time!
I went on a 30mile tour through the princeton-hopewell-pennington area and I was extremely impressed with the whole experience. I don't associate New Jersey with beautiful views filled of farms and rolling hills, so I was pleasantly surprised with how scenic the ride was. I can now see how people fall in love with this place. It literally was a farm to table experience. We rode by a few farms and actually stopped by one of the restaurants where the farm food goes. The tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the ideals of farm to table and eager to make sure I enjoyed my trip. I think this tour has wide ranging appeal. If your looking for a central Jersey bike ride, filled with good views, good food, education about food and where we get it, all while getting some excercise, then this is for you.
This is the best way to see New Jersey! I really enjoyed my tour and would recommend it to all levels from beginning to expert. Our tour guide was great. I would definitely do this again. I loved it!

Had a great time with you Natalie! I love how you loved the history...little known facts that aren't in the books. More where that came from. And the good food is always here when you come back!

The Watershed Institute
The Watershed Reserve offers more than 10 miles of hiking trails that are open from dawn to dusk throughout the year including a half mile ADA accessible boardwalk that is currently under construction.
Our trails explore wetlands, forests, meadows, streams and the four-acre Wargo Pond, which support the Watershed Reserveâs vibrant and diverse community of animals and plants. Some of the oldest trees in central New Jersey are found here, as well as fox, coyote, weasel and flying squirrel. Birders will enjoy looking out for osprey, bobolink, Coopers hawk, red-shouldered hawk, or any of six species of owl that frequent the reserve.

NJ bike tours' mission is to share le joie de vivre in unexpected places and in unexpected ways. The friends, farms, food, fitness and fun experienced on each tour connects us to each other, to nature, to history and to what it means to be alive! Raised in Europe, founder Jake Herway unexpectedly found a hidden treasure in New Jersey that had everything he needed to replicate his European upbringing - picturesque and safe bike riding, farm-fresh food, rich history, culture and a vibrant community. NJ bike tours was a natural extension of finding a hidden gem in the back roads of a state Jake had assumed was nothing but concrete, electric wires, and grime. Hidden to millions who visit, live in, or avoid New Jersey is a rich history, beautiful farm country, stunning views, and fresh, delicious food that create an energizing cycling adventure. All tours are BYOB - BRING YOUR OWN BIKE (and helmet) Rental and purchase options available.
Biking Trails
D & R Canal State Park
The trail is made of fine textured crushed stone and is for hiking, jogging and biking. No horses, motorized vehicles, or ATVs are permitted. The trail can be entered at 21 points in this segment of the park, 10 of which have Park-designated parking space. Walks or bicycle rides can begin and end at these various points (remember to double the distances!), or be made one-way by leaving a car or arranging pick-up at the completion point.
D & R Canal Towpath Ride
The Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park Trail follows the towpath of the canal, which was built in the early 1830s as a transportation corridor between Philadelphia and New York. Along the route you'll find 19th-century bridges and bridge-tender houses, remnants of locks, cobblestone spillways and hand built stone-arch culverts. You can even rent canoes at Griggstown and Princeton if you prefer the water route.
Greater Mountain Lakes Open Space Area
The Greater Mountain Lakes Open Space Area, a âcentral parkâ in Princeton, consists of some 400 acres just north of the center of town, with a wide variety of hiking and biking trails, some connecting to other trails outside of the area described here. Along with views of Tusculum, the estate built by John Witherspoon, and historic Coventry Farm, it features open fields, several small streams and lakes, old stone walls, boulder fields, and old growth pine and hardwood forests. The area may be divided into three sections: Mountain Lakes Preserve/Mountain Lakes North; John Witherspoon Woods and parts of Tusculum; and Community Park North. Most of the remainder of Tusculum, to the east, and Coventry Farm, to the west, is private open space.
Sourland Mountain Preserve - Somerset
Sourland Mountain Preserve in Somerset County is 3,025 acres of woodlands, boulder fields, unique wetlands, and steep hillsides.Passive recreational opportunities include hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, orienteering, bird watching, and bouldering. The trails described here are located on the northern most border of Montgomery Township in Hillsborough Township. Sourland Mountain Preserve is part of the Sourland Mountains, a 90 square mile area extending over five townships (Montgomery, Hillsborough, Hopewell, West Amwell and East Amwell) and three counties (Mercer, Somerset and Hunterdon) in central New Jersey. The Sourlands consist of the main Sourland Ridge with an elevation ranging from 300 â 600 feet and several geologically similar adjoining areas, including Baldpate Mountain, Mount Rose and Pheasant Hill.
The Lawrence Hopewell Trail
The Lawrence Hopewell Trail is over 20 miles of multipurpose, recreational trails that run through public and private lands in Lawrence and Hopewell Townships. The idea for the LHT grew out of a commitment to improving the quality of life for all who live or work in Lawrence Township and Hopewell. More specifically, the trail will help provide an active and liveable community with opportunities for recreation, health and fitness, transportation, and outdoor education.
Veterans Park Trails
The land for this 350 acre park was originally part of the John Abbott II farm. The old farm house (circa 1730), the foundation of the barn, a smoke house, a doctorâs office (1840) and herb garden can all be seen in the historic area at the South Entrance. The land was purchased for the park in 1977. The acreage is about to be increased to 450 acres. There are seven walking trails in addition to the paved bikeways in the park. The trails are named by colors and are marked with thick posts the tops of which are painted the color of the trail. All trails are relatively flat and wide with benches, and outlooks along them.

Bike the Sourlands
Pennington, New Jersey
Description
Added by Margo Schmiederer
A ride on idyllic and quiet country roads
Cycle through one of the most beautiful areas of New Jersey, the Sourland Mountain Preserve area with acres of forest, wetlands, and farmland. For a shorter ride you can park at Hopewell Valley Central High School and depart from there on Pennington-Harbourton Road to Scotch Road and Bear Tavern Roads. Further north and closer to Montgomery, you can park on and depart from Ridge Road, heading north to Wertsville Road, then looping back south via Long Hill Road. This ride is longer and is closer to 20 miles roundtrip.
The views are spectacular and many of the roads in this region are generally quiet and free from motor vehicle traffic. This area is popular among cyclists so it is likely that you will cross paths with others enjoying the scenery. It is popular for locals to stop in Hopewell for lunch and visit Sourland Cycles to mingle with other cyclists.

Great experience from start to finish. My husband is an avid road-biker but this was my first foray into it, and we both enjoyed every minute. Tour leader, Jake, was friendly and informative, scenery was beautiful, and lunch was locally-sourced and delicious. Jake knows the area well and is passionate about sharing the beauty and uniqueness of the area with others. One of our more memorable excursions!
Quiet roads with no traffic. Great views of farms and the beautiful country side and the excellent company of the tour leader Jake
We took a 4 hour tour and did the country roads, the hills and views, and one farm: Blue Moon Acre farm for lunch. Jake was able to access electric bikes for us so we were able to keep up with him. He is definitely able to keep any level of biker pushing to the max. Jake knows his roads. He never once looked at a map. Living in Europe I am used to following the biker signs to find my way. Those are not there in the US so Jake as a guide was essential. One of the highlights was biking past the Charles & Ann Lindbergh home. I had just finished reading 'The Aviator's Wife' and this was incredible to see the actual home where the baby was abducted from. Jake is fun, knows his history, knows the roads, and makes the day a perfect biking day. I now want to sign up for his other tours!
This is the best way to see New Jersey! I really enjoyed my tour and would recommend it to all levels from beginning to expert. Our tour guide was great. I would definitely do this again. I loved it!
