City Cruises - Lendal Bridge Landing: Reviews

Fantastic experience: We enjoyed the Cruise up the Ouse, the crew were so friendly and helpful. The commentary was very entertaining and informative. Although I'm, reasonably, local to the area this opened up the enjoyment out York even more. Would thoroughly recommend. Book online as it cheaper.

Fantastic experience: Very enjoyable and relaxing trip; knowledgeable and helpfull staff. Would recommend!

Fantastic experience: Great captain but very empty due to time of year. Fantastic

Fantastic experience: We really enjoyed our cruise. We got lucky and had a beautiful sunny day for it during the Easter holidays! Interesting commentary and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Fantastic experience: Great cruise along the river going out of York to the Archbishops Palace, hot mulled wine and mince pies added to the festive atmosphere

Fantastic experience: On our first day in York we wanted to kill some time inbetween sightseeing on foot, so when we saw City Cruises were running throughout the day it was perfect for us for a 45 minute relaxing ride up and down the river. Our skipper was absolutely hilarious and we thoroughly enjoyed his insightful and knowledgable commentary on various things around York.( as well as some of the best Dad jokes ) We both wish you a fantastic wedding coming up. Jokes aside, the trip was really interesting and we learnt a lot about a few things from the story behind Clifford’s Tower, to the origins of Guy Fawkes. Such a lovely trip which was perfect today as it was sunny , so sitting up top was a must. We wanted to see Clifford’s Tower afterwards so we jumped off on the first stop/pick up, but I believe they stop off/ pick up just by the Yorkshire Museum/Gardens aswell. (For May anyways, not sure if they double up the pick ups usually but it was handy for us) Defo worth it.

Fantastic experience: Took the grandsons on a Santa Cruise, unfortunately the river was too high to set sail. That didn't matter the grandchildren had a great time, your Santa was wonderful. And the gifts were Amazing, all 3 boys were delighted with a wonderful individual gift. If this is anything to go by, I would have no worries about booking a river outing with you. Thank you. & Happy Christmas ⛄

Fantastic experience: Don't expect to see many landmarks, but other things to see and if you have a good Captain great commentary

Fantastic experience: Great cruise. Andy was our skipper & he was very welcoming, as was the rest of the City Cruises Crew. Interesting commentary throughout the journey, a good mix of information and light hearted jokes! Bar on board as well for drinks & snacks, a good way to spend some time on a sunny day!

Fantastic experience: A lovely cruise in York. It lasted an hour. The captain was informative and engaging. He said his name was Andy, or was it Dave?!

Fantastic experience: Lovely informative boat cruise and Andy/Dave and Charlie were brilliant especially when they were discussing my pint

Fantastic experience: Lovely one hour cruise. Captain Andy aka Dave, was funny and informative.

Fantastic experience: A lovely 3/4 to an hour cruise up and down the river ouse , good tour guide who pointed out places of interest along the way

Positive experience: Lovely day but unless your sitting at the side you actually cannot see anything around you other than looking up. Good commentary to start with then after a while became difficult to understand, so gave up. Not great value to be honest, wouldn't bother again.

Fantastic experience: I enjoy the trip! The guide was great to explain what we see

Fantastic experience: Staff was very friendly, boats were in good condition. Spent 27£ for the two of us for a 1hr long boat ride along the river Ouse. On a sunny day like today it’s great even though the boat ride itself does not really offer stunning views. Commentary is interesting though.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic place and the children enjoy the father Christmas cruise, loads to do and see and be entertained

Fantastic experience: Lovely relaxing trip along the river. Interesting commentary from the crew which was clearly heard. We were lucky to have a lovely summers day. Would definitely recommend this if you have an hour to spare. Turn up a little early if you want the best views as seats are first come first served.

Fantastic experience: FANTASTIC . A last minute decision to go on the boat...so glad we did. Wonderful trip with the history of York. Staff Wonderful...'Captain' was hilarious. Well worth the visit.

Fantastic experience: Enjoyed our 45 minute cruise, the staff were very helpful and Laurie in particular made the trip very informative and also entertaining! Thank you, can highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend a trip with these guys. Informative, humorous as well as interesting and would happily go again.

Fantastic experience: I really loved this tour and I had a great time! The cruise is very gentle on the river Ouse and our captain was a great tour guide too. I enjoyed Kris’ commentary, “bad” jokes and knowledge he passed onto us. I would totally do this again and recommend it to others. Fun tour of York and a great way to see the city and learn more about it.

Fantastic experience: This was such a good experience that I'd recommend for anyone who is in the city! The 1 hour tour guided cruise we had from lendal bridge was such great value for money! £35 for a family of 4. Stew, our captain and tour guide was so funny and informative!, he was great!

Fantastic experience: Little Trip up River Good Value Staff Friendly And Helpful

Fantastic experience: Excellent river cruise and personal commentary by the captain (sorry forgot your name!!). Would recommend without hesitation.

Fantastic experience: Boats are blue not red,, self hire ones ! Engine a little noisey once inside but doesn't take away the fun, U get to go through 4 bridges and back again then on to two more bridges before returning,, U can't smoke but who would notice if u did,, u have to book it online . All in all worth the 35 pound paid, roughly one hour.

Fantastic experience: Nice trip on the Ouse...

Fantastic experience: Had a beautiful cruise down the Ouse and we were blessed with great weather, the crew on the boat were friendly and helpful, there is a choice of trips which are all reasonably priced

Fantastic experience: Amazing way to spend some time and see the city from a different perspective! We did it in quite good weather but it would’ve been just as amazing in colder weather. Super dog friendly and the staff were lovely :) There was even an ice cream boat that you could by from the water, on the journey! See pictures.

Fantastic experience: We always try to fit in a river cruise whenever we visit York as we always enjoy the experience immensely. On this occasion the Covid-19 procedures in place were excellent, and the staff were as friendly and helpful as ever. Highly recommended

Fantastic experience: We did the drive your own boats and loved it- really simple instructions and great way to see some of the city.

Fantastic experience: A really relaxing ride up and down the river. All of the staff were really friendly and helpful. Booking online was easy and clear. We were a fairly large group and space was set aside in advance without us even asking, which was a really thoughtful thing from the staff. Informative commentary along the route and a cider in the sunshine made this a lovely chance to be a tourist for once in a city that we know very well and visit regularly.

Fantastic experience: It was quite relaxing and the skipper was amusing and very factual. Great price. One thing a I want to say if you are smaller in height the boat steps were a bit large to step on but all-in all I really enjoyed it. Would go again and recommend to anyone to try it. It can get a bit chilly too.

Fantastic experience: What an amazing hour. Shame the weather didnt hold and the rains did come in during the cruise. But alas you cant do anything about that. The cruise was wonderful and smooth and a thoroughly relaxing hour learning all about the sights of york city. Laurie was our skipper and he was very pleasant, cheerful, open and knowledgable throughout amd eleanor provided wonderful service on the bar. Both couldnt do enough for you. Highly recommended!!!!!

Fantastic experience: Enjoyed the cruise as part of the YorkPass scheme. Very informative guide who was able to fit some light humour in during the journey. If the weather is good enough would highly recommend. Didn't use any facilities or purchase any drinks whilst on board so can't comment on those. During half term approximately 1/4 of the boat was filled. Bring a camera as you may get some good photo opportunities of the York Minster.

Fantastic experience: A really nice and relaxing way to see parts of York. We especially liked the live guided tour by the Captain of our tour ( I believe his name was Laurie ) very informative and added comedy to boot ! The rest of the crew were very friendly and helpful as well. The family ticket was great value for money. We would recommend a trip

Fantastic experience: Nice trip up and down the river, guided cruise with friendly knowledgeable staff. Takes about an hour, if it's sunny and you're going to sit outside take a hat!

Fantastic experience: Lovely cruise on the river Ouse which lasts just over an hour, and is a welcome break after all that walking around the fair city of York. Our captain and guide Keith kept us all well informed about all the sites along the banks of the Ouse, with lots of local history info as well, and added in a few good dad jokes for good measure, he had a great dry sense of humour. If you are lucky you might see a steam train passing on the railway bridge along the way, a lovely nostalgic site on a sunny summer's day. So if you want to relax for an hour in the sunshine, take a short cruise on the river Ouse. Because believe me my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. " Wind In The Willows" Ps, I've added extra photos for a snapshot of York.

Fantastic experience: A nice leisurely Cruise along the River Ouse(I’m a poet..not!) seeing the sights and sounds of the great City of York, the Captain gives a witty running commentary on the interesting buildings, the wildlife, bridges, history of York,if weather is favourable head for the top deck, wheelchair access is available on the lower deck, refreshments are available,an enjoyable couple of hours

Fantastic experience: Had a great cruise and the captain was funny and knowledgeable.

Fantastic experience: A very pleasant hour spent on the river. The captain was very informative and had a great sense of humour. Very interesting and relaxing albeit a little on the chilly side.

Fantastic experience: This was a very enjoyable cruise and a good way of learning more about the city. Great views and our captain Peter was very easy to listen to and we learnt many interesting facts. I would certainly recommend this to visitors.

Fantastic experience: Really enjoyed our cruise. It was something I wanted to do for a long time and it was everything we expected. Friendly staff. It was a windy but warm day so only 2 boats were on instead of four, which was great as we thought the trip might have been cancelled as high winds were expected. It was a great experience and look forward to repeating it again. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: Lovely relaxing hour spent with my daughter cruising up and down the River Ouse and listening to the information about the areas we could see from the boat. Possibly the best 'attraction' we went to, as it was restorative rather than busy and in your face. Would definitely do this again.

Fantastic experience: Very good , the ride was quite a while with good views and also has a bar on board for refreshments

Fantastic experience: Lovely 1 hour cruise.

Fantastic experience: Had a great trip. It was a bit cold but as expected in February. The captain was very informative and funny.

Fantastic experience: Good cruise with plenty of information as you go along. Also look out for the little red boats if you fancy more of a do it yourself approach. With a discount if you book in advance for a morning slot on their website.

Fantastic experience: Great tour nice to see a different view of York

Fantastic experience: incredibly informative and interesting boat tour. great value for money

Fantastic experience: Very nice boat trip.

City Cruises York - Seeing York from a Different Viewpoint.

Updated: Sep 13, 2020

*We were gifted tickets in return for this review*

We, as a family, have always preferred the countryside to cities but, if we fancy a change of scenery, then our must visit city has always been York, so when we were invited to take a ride with City Cruises York , we couldn't turn it down! A great opportunity to see this beautiful city from a new angle and have a good old nose around some of our favourite shops and attractions.

City Cruises York offer a wide range of cruises, as well as self drive hire , including the daytime cruise that we were booked onto.

For more great ideas, check us out on Facebook , Instagram or twitter

We had tickets for the 10:40 sailing, departing from the Lendal Bridge landing, which is located right next to the beautiful Museum Gardens. We were greeted by a friendly member of staff who checked our booking an advised us on where to wait. When the boat arrived, we instantly noticed that there were plenty of seats to choose from, even with the new social distancing measures in place, though we visited at a quieter time, so this may well be different in peak times. We were welcomed on board by another friendly staff member and took our seats on the upper deck, for the best view and photo opportunities. From the upper deck you get a great view along the river and across the surrounding area, though we would have probably stayed on the lower deck if the weather had been bad, where we could have made the most of the on board bar. Serving Hot and Cold drinks.

Before setting off, there was a safety briefing from the skipper, which gives all the information you will need, but without being boring. Speaking of the skipper, he gave a great commentary of all the sites we could see from the boat, along with some great historical gems. We have been on other tours like this, in other areas, and the commentary can sometimes be a little dull, but this is not the case here. The skipper was very knowledgeable and seemed like he actually enjoyed his job, as well as being able to occasionally add a little humour, without seeming like he was trying too hard.

At the end of the cruise, you have the choice of leaving the boat at either of the 2 landings the company operate from. Lendal Bridge, where we boarded, or King's Staith, which is slightly closer to most of the main City Centre attractions.

Overall, we found the whole experience very enjoyable and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the City. Friendly staff, a knowledgeable skipper, a well stocked bar and plenty of Covid precautions in place. A great way to see some of the sights, without the crowds.

Other cruises offered include evening sightseeing and private hire options are also available.

Next time we visit York, we are planning on hiring one of the small self drive boats, which are suitable for up to 8 people (under normal circumstances) and start from just £30 for one hour. Please note; due to the new "Rule of 6", bookings are currently being restricted to a maximum of 6 people per boat.

York City Cruise

Fancy a boat ride around York ? On this river cruise, you'll admire some of the most iconic landmarks in this British city as we sail the River Ouse .

Sailing along Rver Ouse

New York Announces $95 Million Revitalization of Port in Red Hook

New York City plans to rebuild three piers and add a new cargo crane after taking control of more than 100 acres of the Brooklyn waterfront.

A large cargo crane and dozens of blue shipping containers sit on the edge of a pier. In the far background, the New York City skyline can be seen.

By Patrick McGeehan

The Red Hook section of Brooklyn was once home to one of the busiest ports in the United States. But over the years, it was eclipsed by the container terminals that sprouted on the New Jersey side of the harbor.

The piers rotted as Red Hook played an increasingly insignificant role in the movement of goods around the region. The neighborhood became known more as a landing spot for cruise-ship passengers than for cargo containers.

But now, New York City wants to revive the Red Hook waterfront by rebuilding three dilapidated piers for the maritime industry and adding a new crane for unloading freight. Mayor Eric Adams announced on Tuesday that the city would take control of more than 100 acres of the Brooklyn waterfront and invest $80 million in improvements.

Beyond that, he said, city officials would work with local leaders and community groups to develop a plan “to create a neighborhood on our shoreline that truly displays the promise of New York City.” Mr. Adams said he envisioned a waterfront community with amenities that included open space and housing, but he did not provide any further details.

The key to unlocking the mayor’s vision of a transformed Red Hook waterfront was a deal with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which controlled 100 acres there. The Port Authority agreed to swap that land for control of a larger property on Staten Island, where it operates the Howland Hook cargo terminal. Though no money is changing hands, Mr. Adams described the deal as the largest real estate transaction involving city government in recent history.

Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York said the state would invest an additional $15 million — boosting the total investment in the project to $95 million — to create a cold-storage facility at the port, which would allow for the delivery of perishable products by water rather than via trucks.

“Narrow streets are clogged by delivery trucks that are here all day long,” Ms. Hochul said. “We want to find ways for these deliveries to occur without clogging the streets.”

Representative Dan Goldman, a Democrat whose district includes Red Hook, said the marine terminal there was “the epitome of what government does wrong.”

He said the complicated relationship between the city, the state and the Port Authority fostered a paralysis that “allowed what was once such a burgeoning port to deteriorate to such a point where it was not making enough revenue to make it even worth the upkeep.”

Port Authority financial records show that the agency lost more than $15 million on the Brooklyn marine terminal last year. In presentations to elected officials, the mayor’s office described the condition of the three piers that would be rehabilitated as either fair or good. A fourth pier has been unusable since last year, the office said.

Mr. Goldman said it would be a challenge to devise a way for a swath of waterfront that surrounds a working cargo port to produce more jobs as well as offer public access and other benefits to the community. Although the site would be controlled by the city’s Economic Development Corporation, he pledged that “the community will have a say in what happens here.”

Mr. Goldman gave credit to Representative Jerrold Nadler, a fellow Democrat whose district previously included Red Hook, for passing on a vision for the area’s future.

But Mr. Nadler was not flattered. He immediately publicized his opposition to the deal, criticizing the Port Authority for abandoning Red Hook, which is the only remaining container port on the eastern side of the harbor.

“It is of critical importance to New York City and the entire region that this port remains open and not converted into housing or some other usage,” Mr. Nadler said in a statement.

Mr. Nadler spoke to Ms. Hochul in an effort to dissuade her from going through with the swap. But she decided to proceed over his objections.

City officials were eager to gain control of the property, which is considered one of the largest underdeveloped sections of the city. In turn, the Port Authority was seeking help in financing a $10 billion replacement of the main bus terminal at 42nd Street in Manhattan.

In March, Mr. Adams announced that the city would provide up to $2 billion in projected tax revenue toward the project from commercial buildings at the bus terminal site. Two months later, the city appears to have lured the Port Authority out of Brooklyn.

Rick Cotton, executive director of the Port Authority, said the agency would take full ownership of 225 acres that the city owns at Howland Hook, where a private shipping company plans to expand capacity by 50 percent over the next seven years.

He called the deal “a win-win-win proposition” for the agency, the city and the state.

Trump-owned plane strikes a jet at Florida airport

The former president’s Boeing 757 clipped a parked corporate jet after landing in Palm Beach, according to FAA information and public records.

Former president Donald Trump’s private plane clipped a parked corporate jet while taxiing at a Florida airport over the weekend, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and public records.

A public FAA database shows a Boeing 757 with the tail number matching Trump’s plane was involved in an incident in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The plane, a Boeing 757, was taxiing at Palm Beach International Airport when its winglet — the V-shaped tip of its wing — “contacted a parked and unoccupied corporate jet,” according to a statement from the FAA, which is investigating the incident.

The FAA said in a statement that the plane landed safely around 1:20 a.m. Sunday before clipping the other jet. But flight tracking data shows the 757 departed Atlantic City International Airport late Saturday evening and headed to West Palm Beach, where it landed around 11:20 p.m. The reason for the discrepancy in the timing was not immediately clear.

The agency did not confirm that the aircraft was owned by Trump. The Trump campaign declined to comment on the incident Monday morning. A person familiar with the incident said the plane was being directed by ground crew when the incident happened.

The plane’s identification number listed on the incident notice is registered to DJT Operations I LLC, a company owned by the former president, according to online records .

As of Wednesday morning, it is unclear who was on board at the time of the incident. There were no injuries reported, according to the FAA’s incident notice. The agency is investigating.

Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for the presidential race, has been on trial in New York. He faces 34 counts of falsifying business records related to his reimbursement of his former attorney for a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

The Boeing 757 in Sunday’s incident was given a certificate in 2010, and it expires in March 2028, according to the FAA’s registry.

Trump bought the 757 from Microsoft mogul Paul Allen and had it refitted with Trump family crests and gold-plated seat belts. It has private guest rooms, dining and conference areas and an extensive entertainment system, according to a video shared by Trump in 2011.

The plane can fit up to 43 passengers and fly at the top speed of 0.86 Mach and a range of 4,100 nautical miles, The Post previously reported .
