- Portability
- Competition
- Final Verdict
We purchased the Baggallini Everywhere Bagg so our reviewer could put it to the test. Keep reading for our full product review.
Baggallini was founded by two flight attendants who wanted practical, organized, and travel-friendly bag options that are as fashionable as they are functional—so it’s no wonder that the brand has become a go-to among travelers with an eye for style. We tested the company’s Everywhere Bagg in a variety of settings (from everyday errands to a day at the zoo and even at a dust-filled Renaissance fair) to see it lived up to its promise.
Design: Plenty of storage
The Everywhere Bagg is a medium-sized carryall that’s functional without feeling clunky, all thanks to its many interior and exterior pockets. Outside, there’s a large zipper pocket and two smaller pockets on the front—one zips closed and the other has a magnetic flap closure. We found these pockets handy for stashing snacks, receipts, and other smaller items that tend to get lost in the abyss of main compartments.
There’s plenty of organized storage, with eight credit card slots, a zipper pocket, a key leash, two pen loops, and a removable radio frequency identification-blocking (RFID) wristlet.
There is also a compartment on each of the two sides. One of these compartments is open, while the other is a zip-up compartment with an expandable inner pocket. We noted that this pocket can hold a standard-sized disposable plastic water bottle but couldn’t accommodate anything larger than that. There’s also a back pocket that unzips at the bottom and converts into a sleeve that can be slipped over a luggage handle—a feature that frequent globetrotters will find especially handy.
The main zipper closes securely across the entire bag, ensuring no stray hands can get inside. Inside the main compartment, there’s plenty of organized storage, with eight credit card slots, a zipper pocket, a key leash, two pen loops, and a removable radio frequency identification-blocking (RFID) wristlet. There’s also lots of space for sunglasses cases, an average-sized travel book, medication bottles, and other common items.
From the zipper pulls to the magnetic closures, we thought that all of the hardware felt substantial. The bag is also fairly sturdy and can stand up on its own, as long as the items inside are evenly-placed. The one design element we felt the bag was missing, despite its spaciousness, was an inner divider to keep belongings more organized, though this is more of a personal preference.
The material is also easy to spot-clean, as we discovered after splashing fruit juice on the outside.
The bag’s water-resistant nylon interior and exterior fabric mean there’s no need to worry about rain. The material is also easy to spot-clean, as we discovered after splashing fruit juice on the outside.
Style: Streamlined as can be
The bag has a sleek look, thanks to its somewhat structured silhouette plus the fact that its zippers and exterior fabric are all the same color. The inner lining, however, adds a fun pop of color—we tested the Portabello colorway, which had a vibrant purple fabric inside.
Because the bag weighs just 1 pound, it’s lightweight and versatile enough for everyday use.
While its design won’t rival a luxury designer handbag, that also means you’ll stay low-key in travel situations where you want to keep your belongings safe by blending in with the crowd.
Comfort: Wearable all day
The adjustable nylon strap feels similar to the material of a seatbelt. It’s durable, comfortable, and pretty strong. And, because the bag weighs just 1 pound, it’s lightweight and versatile enough for everyday use, no matter if you’re commuting to the office or flying across the world.
Portability: Surprisingly versatile
At 11 inches wide, 9 inches tall, and 5 inches wide, we found that this practical purse was the perfect size as an on-the-shoulder carryall or a cross-body bag. Surprisingly, it can also double as a stroller bag: With a strap that can adjust to as long as 52 inches, parents will be happy to know that it’s possible to hang it across a stroller handle safely and easily.
Price: A small investment for peace of mind
With an MSRP of $100, the Baggallini Everywhere Bagg was pricier than other similar bags we tested . However, we think that the price is reasonable for a high-quality, well-designed bag with storage and safety features.
Competition: The best value available
There are certainly more cost-effective options out on the market, such as the slightly smaller Satchelli Crossbody Bag (MSRP $40) that offers the same amount of exterior pockets but not as many interior features; it also doesn’t have the same polished look as the Baggallini. Even more affordable is the Suvelle Lightweight Hobo Bag , which retails for less than $30 but has no exterior storage pockets and fewer interior organizational compartments.
On the pricier side, high-end travel brand Tumi’s Voyageur collection of stylish nylon bags include the Troy Crossbody (MSRP $245), which offers luxe touches including leather corners, metal feet, and monogramming, among others.
Peace of mind is key when you’re traveling, and the Baggallini Everywhere Bagg offers just that. With more than 18 separate compartments, including a removable RFID-blocking pouch, this multi-functional purse transitions well from everyday use to zig-zagging across the globe (and everywhere in between).

Best Anti-Theft Purse For Travel: My Top 9 Travel Bag Picks
The best anti-theft purse is the one that foils pickpockets every time.
And if I’d had one of these clever items when I visited Beijing, I wouldn’t have looked like such an idiot… or worse, a criminal.
That’s exactly how I felt as I tried to convince embassy officials to please let me in to get a new passport – because mine had been stolen, along with my money.
But I didn’t have a pickpocket-proof purse, and I had committed the cardinal sin of travel: I had put my passport into an unsecured daypack.
Believe me, this is the kind of mistake you only make once, and I’d love to make sure you don’t have to make it at all!
So I now have not one, but several of the best anti-theft travel bags on the market. I never travel without one. And yes, my passport is now snugly secure.
Today I want to focus on day bags designed to ward off pickpockets . I’ve been testing several of these during my travels and to paraphrase the well-known ad, I would ‘never leave home without one’.
There are two big names in anti-theft travel bags for women: PacSafe and Travelon. The last time I searched for “PacSafe” and “Travelon” on Amazon I found hundreds of results for these brands. While the two giants dominate the market, I’ve also looked at others and have added those further down this page.
These travel accessories range from tiny clutches to roomy purses and every color under the sun, so try to narrow down your choices before you shop by asking yourself:
- Are color and style important to you?
- Do you need something ultralight because you have back issues or is heavy fine?
- What do you plan to carry – just a wallet and phone or do you need space for your tablet, paperback book, glasses, keys, tissues, pens and a notebook for quick notes, a small camera… you get the picture!
- Will you be heading into the rainy season? The material could be an issue.
- Do you need oodles of pockets or do you like to have it all mixed up at the bottom of your purse?
Make sure you answer some of these questions before you shop!
Meantime, though, here’s a comparison chart for my top 9 bags.
Best anti-theft crossbody bag: comparison table
What should i look for in the best anti-theft bags.
Each bag will be different, but each will have specific anti-theft properties that make them attractive.
The best crossbody bags should have as many of these characteristics as possible:
- Slash-resistant or slash-proof fabric (typically wire mesh)
- Strong fabric (canvas, nylon)
- Anti-slash straps (usually wire-reinforced)
- Locking zippers or closures OR hidden zippers
- RFID blocking pockets /compartments
- Multiple interior pockets with separate closures (like zippers)
- Non-flashy design or colors (to blend in rather than attract attention)
- Compact enough to be worn under a cardigan, jacket even a large pashmina, making it hard for thieves to spot.
Daypacks are also good for use as travel purses, but under certain conditions:
- That they are designed specifically to thwart thieves
- That you wear them on your chest instead of your back (I do dislike that but that’s my personal bias)
- That you avoid putting anything of value in exterior or unlocked pockets.
Some find that the best anti-theft backpack purse is the one that is versatile enough to act as both a backpack and a handbag in different situations.
Standard Pacsafe purse features
Every Pacsafe bag (or most) shares a few features that set the brand apart from others:
- Stainless steel wire mesh in fabric and wire-reinforced straps
- Locking clips and zippers, turn and lock security hooks.
- RFID blocking pockets and compartments
My three most highly rated Pacsafe bags are described below.
- Cool detachable shoulder strap (adjusttable, of course) allows you to lock it to something solid while you go to the counter to pay your bill.
- There’s no way anyone is going to cut through the steel mesh surrounding this pack.
- Interlocking zippers make it difficult for thieves to reach into your backpack.
- Like all Pacsafe products, lots of pockets, inside and outside.
- Perfect as a daypack but equally useful as a weekender.
- Water-resistant, of course, you won’t need to fear the r
- Perfect if you want to go out in the evening without returning to your room to change bags. This one converts from a day bag to an evening purse.
- Metal-reinforced strap can be locked to anything - a radiator or table.
- Great if you’re out for the day - will fit your phone, camera, cash and cards, papers, keys and the like.
- Plenty of pockets, including an RFID blocking inside one.
- Plenty of pockets, including an RFID blocking inside on
- One of Pacsafe’s all-time classics. You’ll put in on and forget it’s even there, it’s THAT comfortable.
- Lightweight steel mesh is embedded in the fabric, which makes this purse virtually thief-proof.
- No one will unhook it without your knowing - you can lock the strap in place.
- Will fit your iPad Mini in its padded sleeve.
Standard Travelon purse features
Most Travelon bags are made to foil pickpockets and tend to share certain characteristics:
- Slash-resistant mesh body panels and shoulder straps
- RFID blocking pockets
- Locking zippers and compartments
These two are among the most highly rated Travelon handbags by women who travel with them.
- It’s comfortable enough to wear all day.
- This is the right purse if all you want to carry are your essentials - a large iPhone, identification, even a camera.
- Slip your identification into the main RFID compartment for a worry-free day.
- You can slip your phone into the outside drop pocket.
- A small LED light is included to help you find what you’re looking for ins
- This is definitely larger than the bag above, if you need to carry more with you.
- It includes inside space for a water bottle or umbrella.
- Plenty of space inside for everything else, including the little iconic LED light so you can find everything.
- The external zippered compartments are convenient if, like me, you’re always reaching for something in your purse.
- This purse has a more designed look than your average travel purse, if you’re looking for something a bit more stylish.
- Of course it has all the usual safety features, from locking zippers to RFID pock
Pacsafe vs Travelon: who wins?
Let’s talk Travelon vs PacSafe. Both PacSafe and Travelon offer a wide range of bag styles from compact backpacks, to wallets, to purses. Both incorporate great anti-theft features like slash-proof fabric/straps, RFID-blocking pockets and ways to lock zippers and closures. Both have highly-rated bags that people swear by.
So what are the biggest differences between PacSafe and Travelon? Price, color options, and overall style.
Pros and cons of Pacsafe
In general, PacSafe bags are more expensive than bags of similar quality (often by $20 or more, depending on the sales and bag in question), and they come with fewer color options. There are exceptions, of course, but PacSafe tends to put safety and practicality before fashion in their bag designs.
In this case, safe really does equal boring, which can be great if your main priority is to transport your things securely and not be noticed. They are also sturdy and buying one means you may have to stick with it for a long time because it won’t wear out.
✔ Durable and practical ✔ Will not draw unnecessary attention ✔ Highly-rated and trusted by travelers
✖ More expensive than other bags of equal quality ✖ Fewer color choices/More “boring” designs
Pros and cons of Travelon
Travelon isn’t a designer purse but the brand does have a range of handbags with quaint stitching, stylish fasteners, and bolder color choices.
If you’re budget-conscious, Travelon bags cost less overall. That said, the flashier colors and accessories might attract more attention, which could backfire if the point of buying an anti-theft bag was to deter thieves from snatching your things.
✔ Durable and practical ✔ Budget-conscious option ✔ Highly-rated and trusted by travelers ✔ More color choices/Fancier styles and designs
✖ Could attract unnecessary attention ✖ Sadly, the ‘plainer’ designs have the highest user ratings
It really is up to you. My own personal choice is Pacsafe, which I find the most reliable and neutral, a feature I like for traveling. They’re also well made (mine seem indestructible) and well thought through. If you’re in need of a small and a larger travel anti-theft purse, you could decide to buy one of each (I don’t need much of a nudge to buy an extra bag for travel!)
The next best anti-theft bags
If you aren’t a fan of PacSafe or Travelon, then these are the next best anti-theft bags for travel made by other reputable brands. Whether you’re looking for a stylish anti-theft purse, or a slash-proof purse, these will suit or travel bag needs.
- This is perfect for the woman who doesn’t want to carry a purse or a backpack, or who prefers to have various places to stash valuables
- Its ultra-slim design makes it perfect for wearing under your clothes.
- Mine is beige but it comes in a variety of colors.
- It also has multiple compartments and pockets so you’ll be able to keep your cash, cards, ID, and phone separate.
- The moisture-wicking material means it won’t stick to your skin if you sw
- You’ll be able to choose from a bunch of colors and designs.
- This bag isn’t big - it’s a perfect day bag and you’ll be able to put everything you need into it - your keys, cards, cash and phone - and your glasses, of course.
- You can wear it on your shoulder or as a cross-body.
- Of course the polyester material will keep everything dry in the rain.
- It has lots of little compartments, so you’ll have a place for everythin
- Ideal when you don’t need a large bag!
- This clutch has utterly stylish design, made of soft, beautiful leather in beautiful colors.
- Several compartments and RFID protected credit card slots will keep your valuables safe.
It’s true, we are spoilt for choice. Our tremendous thirst for travel, combined with our need to keep our valuables safe, means that traveling without some kind of anti-theft bag is simply not an option anymore. Whichever bag you choose, make sure it is comfortable on your body because no matter how secure it is, if you don’t enjoy wearing it, you won’t.

Are Baggallini Bags Worth Buying? My Honest Review
11/03/2023 by Kristin Addis 2 Comments
Full of pockets, lockable, featuring RFID-blocking technology, and durable, are Baggallini bags worth buying and bringing on trips?
A few months ago Baggallini reached out to me and asked me to photograph their bags for an upcoming campaign. I brought them along on our trip to Japan and ended up using several of them as we went. Since then, I’ve continued to bring them on trips and when I’ve shared about them on social media, my DMs and comments are full of women singing their praises.
“I’ve had my Baggallini forever and it’s still going strong!” is what I see the most often.
Here’s everything to know before you buy one, including which one I recommend and use the most:
TLDR: Get the modern pocket crossbody for your everyday travel needs and the Carryall tote for your carry on! It’s a Mary Poppins bag that can fit everything.
Table of Contents
Baggallini Features and Things to Know:
First and foremost, this isn’t a sponsored review. Baggallini did give me bags to photograph, but did not ask me to write this review. I just think they’re cool and worth sharing.
Baggallini straddles the line between style and function without being flashy. For me, the materials are quite casual and not something I would use if I wanted to appear dressed up, but when I’m traveling that’s the opposite of the vibe I want to give off. One of my key safety principles when traveling , particularly alone , is to still express my style but in a non-flashy manner.
That’s what Baggallini, I believe, is going for – function and durability for travel with most of their bags in the $50-$110 range.
Here are some key features:
- Material: 100% Polyester (Nylon)
- Pockets: Almost all of the baggs have LOTS of pockets, and some have extra wallets inside as well.
- Security: The baggs have RFID protection, which prevents scanning credit cards and passport data. Some baggs also have clips for inner wallets so they’re hard for thieves to remove.
- Durability: These are built to last, with scratch resistant materials and metal clasps and closures.
- Colors: Mostly neutral colors, including black, grey, navy, tan, royal blue, and cream.
- Versatility: Many of the baggs can be expanded with zipper expansions, and can be slid onto a suitcase handle via an extra flap on the back.
Which Baggs I Love
Baggallini sent me eight baggs to photograph. Out of all of them, my favorites were the largest and the smallest ones, though the in-betweens could be perfect for you depending on how much you like to bring out with you during the day:
Modern Pocket Crossbody
The Modern Pocket Crossbody is the perfect smaller (8″ W x 8 3/4″ H x 2″ D) day bag for when you only need to bring the essentials. I prefer a cross body bag, especially one with stronger metal clasps like this one, for added security and comfort. The strap is also adjustable and the purse has four pockets, including a hidden one on the back.
I would probably use this one traveling solo in Europe or Southeast Asia where a little more vigilance around purses is wise. It’s not that you have to worry everywhere in Southeast Asia, but bag snatching when the straps are weak happens often in Vietnam ‘s big cities. A smaller bag is also easier to keep track of and hold onto in crowded areas.
This one comes in SO MANY colors .
Expandable Modern Pocket Large Hobo
Very similar to the Modern Pocket, the larger expandable hobo has a zipper in the middle that can allow for a 2-inch expansion. This bagg is 12” wide, 12” tall, and 3” deep (5” expanded) and comes with a grab and go phone/wallet pocket.
Large Carryall Tote
This tote ended up being the perfect carry-on bag for our trip to Japan. We had to pack carefully since we took all public transportation, and this felt like a Mary Poppins bag with endless room. The top could also be folded out or in to create extra room. There were inner pockets for drinks and one zippered pocket, but otherwise this is just a large bag without a lot of extra frills. I liked the simplicity and durability.
It’s indeed a large bag, but will fit in the overhead bin and unless you overstuff it, should also fit under the seat in front of you.
Women’s Everywhere Crossbody
If you’re looking for a slightly larger-but-still-small purse with pockets galore, the Women’s Everywhere Crossbody delivers. It measures 11″ W x 9″ H x 4 1/2″ D and has two outer zippers, a drink sleeve, an outer buttoning pocket, an inner clip-in phone/wallet holder, and adjustable cross body strap. Pictured above is the sterling shimmer color. It’s one of my most-used travel purses at the moment.
3-In-1 Convertible Backpack With RFID Phone Wristlet
Out of all of the baggs, the most useful as a carry-on would be the 3-in-1 convertible backpack. I have a similar bag here, but it’s more of a duffel that I wish were the backpack. I like the extensive pockets of the convertible backpack, the back flap that allows it to slide onto a suitcase handle (this is KEY!), and the possibility of wearing it as a backpack. Sometimes a duffel just doesn’t cut it and can feel heavy on the shoulders, so the option to change it up is great!
My Experience with Baggallini
This is a great travel bag, and the fact that so many of my audience members reached out saying they’d had theirs for a decade plus speaks volumes. Sometimes, when I’m hired to photograph products, I don’t always hold onto them or will just pick a few to keep. In this case I’m still using and loving the Large Carryall Tote and kept the duffel as well (though I wish it were the convertible backpack!)
Since I’ve started using them, I’ve noticed not only do they hold up well, but they don’t stain easily, don’t scuff or snag, and the zippers don’t wear down or get stuck. The nylon material is great for a travel bag. It cleans easily and I’m not worried about it getting roughed up during travel. IMHO, this is a great travel bag that doesn’t break the bank.

I love Baggelini bags. I’ve used mine (purse) for years now. It’s gray crossbody bag and if I get a stain on it I empty it out and throw it in the washer and then in the dryer. It looks like new!! I love all the pockets and credit card storage so I don’t need to carry a wallet. ILOVE my Baggellini!

Best Travel Backpacks | Best Luggage | Best Carry-On Luggage | Best Underseat Luggage | Best Tote Bags | Best Weekender Bags | Best Duffel Bags | Best Fanny Packs | Best Packing Cubes | Best Travel Gear
This fan-favorite belt bag has a loyal following of both men and women (including several GH staffers!) thanks to its comfortable fit, lightweight materials and spacious interior — all for a reasonable price. The nylon fabric is water-resistant, while the strap is fully adjustable so you can get a close fit around your torso (or waist if you prefer to wear it as a fanny pack).
Just note that unlike some crossbody bags that sit at the hip, this one lies flat against your torso, so it's not quite as easy to access the contents. Though its smaller 1L version is more popular, we think this larger size is great for travel because it can hold more while you're on the go.
Dimensions: 8.3" x 2.2" x 5.7" | Colors: Over 15 options
Despite its low cost, this bag wowed our experts and consumer testers with its comfort, style and spaciousness. In fact, it can even hold a water bottle along with a phone, wallet, keys and other essentials — all with room to spare.
One tester told us, "I love how lightweight it is and how much I can fit inside it!" Beyond that, the curved shape helps it feel comfortable at your side, even when you're walking for miles. Though its materials aren't quite as luxe as pricier bags, it still looks sleek and neutral enough to wear with a variety of outfits.
Dimensions: 11" x 6.7" x 3.9" | Colors: 7 options
Though the style looks and feels substantial, it's s urprisingly lightweight thanks to its performance fabrics that also happen to be water-repellent. Each bag features a quilted design and is easily packable so it doesn't take up valuable space in your suitcase.
The bag is on the larger size for a crossbody with one big main compartment, plus a small zippered pocket in the front so you can quickly find your essentials. It's also worth noting that the adjustable strap is longer than some other crossbodies, meaning it can also be carried as a low-hanging shoulder bag.
Dimensions: 12" x 122" x 4" | Colors: 7 options
Sling bags are ideal for anyone who wants the functionality of a backpack with the wearability of a crossbody bag. This one in particular is made with smart travel features, including RFID protection and an extra strap to stop pickpocketing.
It also has plenty of compartments, including ones on the back (facing your body) and an easily accessible pocket in the front. One GH staffer that swears by this bag saying, "It's super comfortable and feels secure to wear while in big cities or crowded areas."
Dimensions: 7" x 12" x 2.5" | Colors: 10 options
For those who prefer leather bags over ones with synthetic performance fabrics, this fashion-forward pick is great for a more elevated luxury look, especially when you're dressed to impress on vacation.
While most stylish leather crossbodies have sky-high designer price tags, this one is on the more affordable end. Worn by celebrities like Serena Williams and Kristen Bell, it's not as lightweight as other travel crossbodies, but our testers say it's not too heavy, either. It has two zippered pockets, each with organizational compartments inside. It's also available in smaller sizes at lower costs.
Dimensions: 10.25" x 7.25" x 4" | Colors: 9 options
If safety is a big concern for your trip, consider a bag that has smart features to keep your belongings protected. This one in particular is equipped with five standout anti-theft features , including zippers that clip closed to prevent pickpocketing, slash-resistant fabric, slash-resistant straps, RFID-blocking pockets and a strap clip that lets you secure it to a chair when you're dining.
Travelon makes a variety of anti-theft crossbody bags , but this one is Amazon's Choice with nearly 10,000 reviews and an average 4.6-star rating. It has a slim design with interior pockets to carry essentials like your passport, phone and wallet, though it doesn't hold quite as much as other styles.
Dimensions: 8.5" x 8.5" x 2" | Colors: 15 options
If you'll be traveling in wet conditions — including going underwater — consider a waterproof pouch that you can wear as a crossbody. This one even has a waterproof zipper and is designed to keep your contents dry ; you can even carry your phone and money into a pool while wearing it! A clear front screen allows you to use a touch-screen phone without taking it out. Plus, the crossbody strap can adjust to be worn as as a belt bag.
Dimensions: 8.58" x 4.92" x 1.77" | Colors: 2 options
If you prefer a smaller crossbody but worry that it's not big enough, consider this unique style from Athleta that has add-on compartments in the strap.
The main pouch is a foam-like material with a water-repellent finish and it lies flat against the body. The strap contains pouches designed to hold sunglasses and AirPods. As an added bonus, the strap is removable and can be attached onto other bags, while the pouch can be used as an organizer inside larger purses.
Dimensions: Not listed | Colors: 2 options
For those that always carry around a water bottle, this sporty sling bag has a hidden bottle pouch that you can tuck away whenever you don't need it.
Besides its two zippered compartments, it also has a microfiber-lined pocket in the front for your cell phone or sunglasses. Plus, there's a small zippered compartment in the back in case you need your phone or other essentials kept safe. It's not super spacious, but it has card organizers inside a zippered pocket in case you just want to bring a credit card and ID without a full wallet.
Dimensions: 6.7" x 8.2" x 2.7" | Colors: 3 options
Like a modern-day messenger, this style has a wide opening so you can easily sift through everything you packed inside. Once it's zippered shut, the top folds over and secures with a magnet. (Just note that Lululemon warns the magnet can interfere with certain electronic devices and bank cards.)
One GH staffer said she uses it every day and noted that the flap "feels secure while commuting or traveling and allows for a quick retrieval for items inside." Like other Lululemon bags , it has a lightweight and water-resistant performance fabric.
Dimensions: 7.9" x 3.9" x 8.3" | Colors: 3 options
Dange Dover Landon Neoprene Carryall Bag (Extra Small)
Available in five sizes, this style's largest options make perfect weekender bags while the smaller ones are more ideal as crossbody purses. This extra-small size still has a five-liter capacity, making it spacious enough to carry on-the-go essentials, even holding a small tablet or notebook.
We especially love this one's organizational features: inside the main zippered compartment are three pockets and a key leash, while the outside has a phone sleeve for easy access (though keep in mind: It's not zippered, so it's less secure). We also love its soft neoprene fabric and wide straps to support a heavier load.
Dimensions: 9" x 4.75" x 6.25" | Colors: 9 options
MZ Wallace Crossbody Belt Bag
When fashion is the first and foremost priority, consider a splurge-worthy style like this quilted belt bag. Despite its large size, it's still fairly lightweight thanks to its nylon material. It's also functional for travel with two zippered compartments and built-in pockets for organization.
We love its versatility thanks to its three detachable straps: Two wide ones for your waist or across the body and one chain strap to dress it up. Online reviewers call it "perfect for international travel," with one saying she found it especially useful on a trip to London and Paris.
Dimensions: 10" x 8.5" x 2" | Colors: 4 options
Bandolier Crossbody Bag
For a simple, chic and timeless style, this small crossbody is described as a "sleek look with a ton of functionality packed in" by one GH analyst who personally uses it. For starters, the adjustable strap can be swapped for other straps from the brand , plus the bag can expand a bit to pack in more when you need it. The flap secures with a magnet (there's no zipper) and it's made with real pebbled leather for an elegant look that can be dressed up.
Dimensions: 8" x 6" x 3" | Colors: 3 options
Madewell The Medium Transport Tote
Combining the capacity of a tote with the convenient strap of a crossbody, Madewell's bag is a tester favorite thanks to its supple leather and spacious interior.
A GH analyst that carries this bag while traveling said it's especially useful if you're going to be shopping so you don't have to carry around extra bags as you explore new cities. It's also ideal if you need to carry a bulky load, like an umbrella, water bottle and layers of clothing, but be aware that there's no zippered closure for protection.
Dimensions: 12.25" x 11" x 5.5" | Colors: 2 options
Coach Willow Bucket Bag
If you're willing to invest in a well-made crossbody, this luxury bag from Coach looks stylish and uses high-end construction. One GH staffer that recommended this style said, "I own a variety of Coach bags and they continue to stay in great condition," adding that the Coach Outlet is a great option for more affordable versions.
She likes this bag in particular because of how roomy it is, calling it "just the right size." Just note that it has multiple sections, some of which are unzippered, making contents less secure while traveling.
Dimensions: 9.25" x 8.75" x 4.25" | Color: Black
How we chose the best crossbody travel bags
The experts in the Good Housekeeping Institute Textiles Lab are passionate about finding the best products at the crossroads of fashion and function, constantly testing to find apparel and accessories that perform well, feel (and look) great and last for years to come.
To find the best crossbody bags for travel, we considered our staff's personal favorites from the dozens of styles that we've tested in our Lab and personally tried out in real life. We also asked other Good Housekeeping editors and analysts to weigh in with their recommendations, plus we performed market research using our product expertise to find new and popular styles from brands we know and love.
How to shop for travel-friendly crossbody bags
The one thing all crossbody bags have in common is that they're worn across your body. Other than that, here's what to consider when choosing the best crossbody bag for your next getaway:
- Size: Smaller dimensions typically mean the bag is more totable, but will hold less. Alternatively, larger bags may fit more inside but can be cumbersome to wear, depending on your type of travel. Besides the dimensions, also consider the capacity: 1-2 liters will be smaller, while 5 liters will be more spacious yet still comfortable to wear.
- Compartments and pockets : Some crossbody bags have one main compartment, while others have several compartments to help you stay organized. Also check for pockets inside the compartments, including pouches to hold your phone, keys and cards for easy access.
- Closures: Most crossbody bags for travel have zippers to keep everything safe and secure inside. However, some have magnet closures and others have no closures at all. Consider how secure you need your belongings to be and whether you'll be at risk for things falling out or being pickpocketed.
- Materials: Many styles are made of synthetic performance fabrics (like nylon and polyester) because they're lightweight and water-resistant. If you prefer a more luxurious bag, opt for leather (or even faux leather). Also keep in mind that bags with metal hardware will be heavier to carry around.
- Adjustability: To ensure your crossbody bag will fit comfortably around your torso, check for an adjustable strap so you can find the right fit. Some crossbody bags are also convertible, meaning you can change the straps or change how you wear them on your body.
- Packability: If you'll be packing your crossbody bag in your suitcase, consider opting for a lighter and thinner style instead of one that's more structured. If you do prefer a structured bag for style, consider wearing while en route to your destination or filling it with smaller items (like socks and underwear) in the suitcase so you don't waste valuable packing space.
- Safety features: Certain trips require you to pay closer attention to the risk of people that prey on tourists. In these cases, look for anti-theft features like secure zippers, straps that can attach onto your seat and RFID-blocking technology.
- Appearance: Last, but certainly not least, it's okay to choose a travel bag based on how it looks without sacrificing other important features. Consider what you'll be doing and wearing throughout your trip. Some of our recommendations are especially good at transitioning from daytime exploring to nighttime dining while matching a wide range of outfits.

18 Best Travel Backpacks, According to Frequent Flyers
By Gabrielle Porcaro
As someone who frequently travels, I've slung duffels, totes , and travel purses on my arm, but nothing compares to using the best travel backpacks. Depending on the length of your trip, a suitcase can either be too bulky or not big enough, so you'll need the vital second bag to make sure all your clothes, tech, and gear securely arrive at your destination. Plus, traveling with a backpack can be more supportive for your back, freeing up your arms and hands to pull out directions on your phone or to hold an iced coffee. Backpacks can also be surprisingly roomy, so everything you need (or want) on your trip fits as comfortably as possible. The good news is there are a wide range of excellent options to suit any and all of your needs. Below, we found the most travel-friendly options and tapped Glamour editors and some of our frequent-flier friends to share the best travel backpacks.
What to look for in a travel backpack
When shopping for luggage items like a travel backpack, the comfort and capacity of the bag is key. You want it to feel easy on the body, which means wide straps or a hip belt to distribute weight, which comes in handy if you're running to catch a plane or carrying it through a crowded subway. Bonus points if the straps are they adjustable and padded. Consider the material: Is it lightweight, soft, and made of durable material like water-resistant fabric? As for size, think about the use of the backpack. There are weekender bags and carry-on size options you can use for long weekends or smartly packed weeklong vacations and styles for short day trips, hikes, or shopping excursions.

What I loved about this piece is it's essentially a suitcase with straps. The wrap zipper fully opens up, allowing you to see and organize your goods into the compartments. I love how sleek it is, and yet, despite its slim appearance, it manages to fit my 15-inch laptop, my secondary screen, charger, headphones, e-reader, and mouse. It has handy organizational features, like an inner key ring, zippered outer pockets for me to stash my lip gloss and phone, and not one but two mesh pockets that fit my water bottle and an umbrella. The neoprene material is strong, soft, and stretchy, which causes the bag to flex to your body and whatever you put inside. It's forgiving, allowing you to fit in and possibly overstuff everything you need for a trip. It also washes well, ensuring it will always have that chic appearance even after some wear and tear,” says Porcaro. Dagne Dover also makes excellent diaper backpacks like this parent-approved Indi Diaper Bag .

No rips or anything and the straps are still comfortable. “The classic grade school look was also a draw and the fact that it fits perfectly under a plane seat. This is an awesome option for anyone who ends up leaving a trip with more than they brought. “The adjustable Y-shaped strap can be tight and secure or loosened to allow for more room, which is the reason why this is a piece of heavy rotation for me. It always shocks me how much I can fit/shove into the main compartment yet still slide my laptop out of the back sleeve. No matter if it’s filled with a hoodie and various pouches holding makeup, power cords, and snacks; it's easy to access. I like to use the zip pocket on the top to store antibacterial wipes, hand sanitizer, headphones, and anything else I want easy access to once I arrive on the flight,” says Porcaro.

- Pros: Crust resistant, two-way zip closure, RFID-shielded pocket;
- Cons: Expensive
Best for City Travel : PAK Large Nylon Backpack
“As a backpack I recently added to my collection, I was impressed by how many features were hidden in what seemed like a pretty basic bag. First, it’s worth noting how seamlessly this slid on and off my back, making it a breeze to sit on the subway or grab my wallet to buy coffee. At first glance, I was confused about the zipper on the bottom of the front pocket, but when I realized it was a coat sling, which, as someone who runs cold and always has an extra layer, is something I will use again and again. Another made-for-me feature is an extra large pocket for water bottles since it’s a personal pet peeve when they aren’t wide enough for standard sizes. Having only worn this around the city for daily life, I appreciate that the shape and look of the pack are city-ready and more polished. When I take this on international trips, I look forward to using the hidden theft-proof compartments,” says Porcaro.
Capacity: 13.5”L x 7” W x 14” H / Waterproof : No
- Pros: Easy access pocket in the back, Coat sling, Large side pockets
- Cons: Not super large
Best Customizable : Roam Continental Backpack
Anyone who is a fan of customization will appreciate this pick. Buyers can choose the color they want on the front, back, side, and straps to create a bag that is uniquely theirs. This is favorite of Glamour commerce editor Jenifer Calle , who has been using it for years. “It fits enough for weekend trips and vacation travel. I particularly like that the side zippers fit my Owala water bottle and there are plenty of zipper and pockets to hold my wallet, keys, chargers, lip balms, and more” says Glamour’s Calle.
Capacity : 26 L / Waterproof : Water Repellent
- Pros : Customizable; 100-day trial period; soft material; luggage sleeve
- Cons : Expensive

It’s also important to consider bonus features, like pockets and organizational compartments, and, as Sanz notes, “A crucial function is to ensure that you’re able to hang your garment bag when you arrive at your destination, so that you can prepare your outfits as easily as possible and to ensure that all your clothes are crisp.” Keeping all this in mind, we found the 12 best travel garment bags out there today. Once you start using one of these, you’re never going to go back.
MZ Wallace’s signature quilting isn’t limited to the brand’s totes, appearing here in garment bag form. The thin design is extremely lightweight, ideal for quick trips when you need to bring one to three outfits. There is even an exterior pocket for bonus storage.

No matter how you slice it, crossbody bags are some of the most versatile bags a shopper can buy. Not only are they typically quite stylish, but they’re also ideal for travel considering their size. There are even quite a few types of crossbodies to consider: there are traditional crossbody bags (think camera bags) and there are also sling bags and belt bags, which can each be worn in various ways. Whichever style you choose, the majority feature adjustable straps so you can customize your own personal, comfy fit.
Luckily, when we turned to our Travel + Leisure team and some additional frequent travelers for their favorite bags, the results were packed with crossbodies of all types. We recommended dozens of items we already own and travel with often, and we each rated our picks based on capacity, comfort, ease of use, portability, and value. The bags below are our favorites.
Best Overall
Baggu nylon crescent bag.
- Capacity 5 /5
- Ease of Use 5 /5
- Value 4.8 /5
It’s extremely versatile and comfortable to wear.
Some may not think it’s the most stylish bag.
There are many reasons Baggu’s Medium Nylon Crescent Bag made the top spot on our list, but the biggest reason is its versatility. We have used this crossbody for everything from weekend trips and amusement park days to running errands and commuting. Beyond that, we can’t get over just how comfy it is to wear. The strap is pretty wide for a crossbody, which helps distribute the bag’s weight on our shoulder — plus the strap is adjustable, allowing the wearer to position it however they feel most comfortable. It’s also ultra-spacious, machine-washable, easy to pack into larger luggage , and significantly more durable than it initially feels.
Inside its roomy main compartment, there are two pockets to neatly store smaller items like keys, cosmetics, cards, and cash. The top zipper is impressively smooth and we’ve never experienced it catching or snagging on anything in the several months we’ve been using it. It has quickly become our everyday bag, and it’s even unisex and available in a wide range of colorways, including hot pink, brown, a cloud print, and more.

Hammitt Stadium-Approved Clear Bag
- Capacity 3 /5
It’s an elevated version of a classic transparent bag.
It may be too small if you aren’t using it to fit stadium guidelines.
We originally bought the Hammit Tony SML to take to concerts (yep — it’s stadium-approved), but its cute embellishments and versatile size have kept us reaching for it again and again over the last few months. We’ve brought it to sporting events, the beach, and overnight trips, and each time we were impressed by just how much the bag can hold for its size. We’ve stuffed it with our phone, earpods, makeup, and even a Kindle Oasis, and it remained lightweight each time. Its wide, adjustable strap feels comfortable even on bare skin, and metal studs provide a unique coolness. You can grab it in eight clear styles with colored leather accents, and there are even more non-clear hues.
The Details: 8 x 2 x 7.5 inches | Clear TPU with leather accents
Best Leather
Quince leather foldover clutch.
It’s stylish, organized, and can be worn in two different ways.
Though the exterior slip pocket is meant for a phone, it will be a very tight squeeze.
This sleek, slightly asymmetrical clutch has made it onto plenty of our trips over the past several months, both near and far. Shoppers can choose to carry it in its original clutch form or they can attach the included strap to transform it into an everyday crossbody bag. We love that it has two separate zippered compartments large enough to fit bulkier items, while an exterior slip compartment and various interior pockets make organization a breeze. The gorgeous Italian pebble leather feels soft and luxe, and the gold hardware is ultra eye-catching. You can find this bag in dusk blue, cappuccino, merlot, and black.
The Details: 7.5 x 2 x 10 inches | Italian leather, microfiber suede

Best Anti-theft
Sherpani esprit at.
Hackers and thieves are no match for this sleek sling bag.
It may feel slightly inconvenient for left-handed travelers.
Sling bags are made for travel, and one of our all-time favorites is Sherpani’s Esprit AT. We’ve taken it on everything from weeks-long international trips to weekend getaways and it comes in handy every time thanks to anti-theft features including slash-resistant mesh, a cut-proof strap, locking zippers, and a chair lock loop. It even boasts RFID protection to prevent hackers from stealing your personal information. In addition to those safety features, the sling bag also has a total of seven pockets ranging from zippered exterior pockets to fleece-lined interior slip pockets, as well as an adjustable strap and key leash. The bag is large enough to fit a 10-inch tablet, yet compact enough to count as a personal item on planes.
The Details: 11 x 18 x 5 inches | 13 ounces | Nylon
Best Water-repellent
Lululemon all night festival bag.
It’s versatile and stylish enough to use every day — plus its sleek nylon repels water.
The magnetic closures may affect some phones and other devices.
We originally bought this bag to use on a weeklong trip out west, but we loved it so much, it has since become our everyday purse. It’s spacious, comfortable to carry, and easy to use thanks to its size and adjustable shoulder strap. It’s packed with both interior and exterior pockets as well as zipper and magnetic closures to keep everything inside secure. A wide opening in the main compartment even makes seeing and grabbing your items simple. We can’t get enough of the water-repellent nylon, which is helpful while at the pool or exploring new destinations in the rain. Perhaps best of all, though, is this bag is as stylish as it is functional — so you can pair it with any outfit and take it virtually anywhere.
The Details: 7.9 x 3.9 x 8.3 inches | Nylon, polyester
Most Comfortable
Kavu rope bag sling pack.
After years of wear, it still never cuts into our shoulders — and it fits so much stuff.
The fabric fastener closure may not stay shut as well with repeated use.
This bag has been basically everywhere with us over the last few years: major vacations, road trips, flights, the mall, the park, and beyond. That’s partially because it’s so comfy to carry (the strap feels soft and broken-in on the first wear), but also because it fits so much inside. Designed with two vertical zip compartments and two smaller pockets, we felt like we had enough space for all our essentials and more — in fact, we used this while traveling with toddlers and were able to stow several of their items, too. The cotton canvas fabric feels soft against our back and shoulders and it appears to be high quality. In other words, we have a feeling this bag will withstand years of travel.

Most Versatile
Senreve belt bag.
- Value 4.5 /5
It can be worn three ways and it’s durable enough to take anywhere.
It’s pretty pricey for a belt bag.
We’ve carried this belt bag across our bodies, around our waist like a true fanny pack, and even as a clutch — and we’ve loved it every time. Whether traveling, hitting the gym, or heading to dinner with friends, the Senreve Belt Bag never feels out of place. It’s strappy and stylish like a purse, but it fits a bit more securely, like a fanny pack or sling bag. The microsuede interior feels luxurious and the magnetic flap closure offers a sense of security without adding bulk or taking away from the bag’s sharp appearance. There are only two pockets inside, but we felt that was plenty for the size, especially considering the spacious main compartment. It’s also scratch-, stain-, and water-resistant, so we feel comfortable getting a little rough with it, even in a lighter color. This bag comes in six different textures and colors ranging from Chablis to merlot.
The Details: 8 x 5 x 2 inches | 14.24 ounces | Leather, suede
Travel + Leisure / Morgan Ashley Parker
Best Organization
Baggallini everywhere bagg.
- Capacity 4 /5
It’s packed with pockets.
The spacious main compartment can feel like a bit of a black hole.
This is the type of bag that can hold “everything but the kitchen sink,” but it’s still technically a crossbody, so it’s truly the best of both worlds. It has pockets on just about every side, both internally and externally, and the main compartment is large enough to fit a small laptop or tablet, plus more. The strap is adjustable, the fabric is water-resistant, and the top zips closed to keep your belongings safe. It even comes with a removable RFID wristlet to keep your most important documents safe, or to use when you don’t need to carry a larger bag. Grab the crossbody in one of ten colors and prints such as dark cherry or gray camo — or even a black-and-beige, faux-shearling-lined option.
The Details: 11 x 9 x 5 inches | 12 ounces
Tumi Persia Crossbody
It’s stylish as can be and it’s small enough to take anywhere.
The strap is not detachable.
If you’re into bags that are so compact they’re downright cute, you’ll love the Persia Crossbody by Tumi. It’s slim, sleek, and perfect for traveling with just the essentials. We love flying with it because it’s small enough to fit into a larger personal item as needed, but leaves the essentials close at hand mid-flight. And though it’s one of the smallest crossbodies on our list, it actually has an impressive number of pockets, so it’s still able to fit your keys, phone, wallet, AirPods, Kindle, makeup, and even snacks with room to spare. It even has a key leash; three card slots; and a wide, adjustable strap for added convenience. If you prefer to personalize the bag, you can do so with the monogramming feature.
The Details: 7.5 x 5.3 x 2.0 inches | 9.6 ounces | Nylon
Best Colors
Lo & sons pearl.
Lo and Sons
- Capacity 2 /5
Between its several available colors and three different leather options, it comes in a total of 21 styles.
It’s best for those who travel with just a few small items.
We’ve been using this purse for more than four years and it’s still finding ways to impress us. It’s not overly spacious, but it’s large enough to fit a few essential items and it’s the ideal size for trips ranging from international journeys to weekend getaways. Designed with one main compartment, two separate zip compartments, and a handful of other interior zip and slip pockets, you won’t find a crossbody of this size with better organization features. The detachable strap and touchably smooth leather are testaments to the bag’s high-quality construction, but our favorite thing about it might be the available colors: there are 21 color and leather options ranging from navy Saffiano leather to cognac cactus leather.
The Details: 7.75 x 9.5 x 3 inches | 14.4 ounces | Leather
Best Designer
Bottega veneta loop camera bag.
Bottega Veneta
It’s roomier than it looks — and because it's Bottega Veneta, you know it's going to last.
It’s the most expensive item on our list by far.
Bottega Veneta’s chic little Small Loop Camera Bag may have snagged our best designer spot, but after using it for the past year, we think it’s the best bag for city exploration, too. We’ve used it in London for a weeklong trip, toted it around the towns of Spain, and have taken it with us pretty much everywhere in New York City. Despite its compact size and single compartment, it’s spacious enough to fit plenty of items like a small wallet, sunglasses, a phone, keys, cosmetics, and more. The woven leather design and gold hardware only up the luxurious feel, while an unstructured strap feels soft on the shoulder. We love this bag in classic black, but it’s also available in white, pink, and navy.
The Details: 6.1 x 8.7 x 3.5 inches | Lambskin leather
Kavu Sydney Satchel
It’s well-made, reasonably priced, and packed with pockets.
It’s not particularly fancy or fashion-forward.
The Kavu Sydney Satchel may be our value pick, but don’t let that deter you — there’s not much the bag can’t do. We’ve spent the last four or five years taking it pretty much everywhere, including various national parks, multi-week Europe trips, and nights out with friends. Because it’s made of extra-durable cotton, it holds up against unfavorable weather and rough travel. It’s on the larger side, so it’ll fit plenty of items including clothing, but it’s also rather slim, so it makes a great non-bulky travel bag. It’s the pockets, though, that keep us coming back to this crossbody: the oversized front pocket holds larger items like wallets, tablets, and other devices, while the main compartment boasts several smaller interior pockets for things like cards and cosmetics. To top it all off, the Sydney comes in 26 fun prints and colors.
The Details: 15 x 13 x 1.5 inches | 12 ounces | Cotton canvas
Best for Parents
Canvelle sling bag.
It’s the most stylish sling bag we’ve ever seen, and it has space for both parents' items and their kids' stuff.
It’s a little pricey for a sling bag.
This is the daily bag we’ve been using for the past few years to carry our stuff and our kids’ stuff — without sacrificing style. While it’s not quite the size of a full-fledged baby bag, it does have the space for a change of clothes, some snacks, a full-size wallet, sunglasses, sunscreen, and other everyday essentials. Because it has a wide, super comfy strap and boasts high-end construction, it makes an excellent personal item when flying. It even has a cushioned back panel, a water-resistant lining, water-resistant back pockets, and a key clip. After using it for a couple of years, we think it feels like an oversized belt bag that can be worn across the body.
The Details: 17 x 11 x 5 inches | 9.6 ounces | Poly canvas
Other Crossbodies We Liked
A few other crossbody bags almost made our list, but were ultimately cut due to minor issues we experienced while using them.
Athleta All About Crossbody : This crossbody is quite durable and comfy, and we like it enough that we’ve used it pretty consistently over the last few months. It’s just a bit too small to use as a travel bag or even as a commuter bag.
Lo & Sons Waverley 2 : This bag is made for travel and it’s come along with us everywhere from Cancun to Paris. It’s super slim yet packed with pockets, so it’s a packing dream, but we noticed that after a few years of use, there’s some discoloration on the leather.
Lug Coupe XL Convertible Crossbody Bag : We appreciated that the Lug Coupe XL Convertible Crossbody Bag is somewhat more stylish than the average belt bag or fanny pack and it has a sufficient number of pockets. Still, we feel it’s a little pricey for a small polyester bag — plus the strap closure seems strange for this type of bag.
For this roundup, the Travel + Leisure team gave feedback about their favorite crossbody bags for travel that they already own. We asked each participant to rate their crossbody in categories including capacity, comfort, portability, ease of use, and value. Then, as a team, we pared down the list based on those ratings and our own research. Our team members have taken these crossbody bags on trips of various lengths and have owned them anywhere between a few months and several years.
Tips For Buying a Crossbody Bag
Make sure it fits your essentials.
It can be tempting to go for the most visually appealing crossbody bag you can find, but keep in mind crossbodies are small by nature and if you can’t fit all your daily items inside, you’ll just end up frustrated on your travels. You may even find yourself wanting to buy a new bag once you arrive at your destination. That said, it’s wise to prioritize size over everything else when shopping for a crossbody.
Look for padded, adjustable straps
Crossbody straps are often thinner than those on totes and backpacks, so if your bag is stuffed to the brim, that thin strap may dig into your shoulder. To avoid discomfort in your shoulder or any body part the bag may repeatedly rub against, consider crossbodies with padded, adjustable straps.
Prioritize built-in organization and safety features
Depending on what you plan on traveling with, it’s a good idea to shop for crossbodies that have plenty of pockets as well as safety features such as zip tops or both zips and snaps for double protection. Multiple pockets mean there’s a spot for everything, making it easier to locate things inside the purse. Meanwhile, safety features like locking zippers, slash-resistant straps, and RFID-blocking technology help prevent pickpockets and hackers from getting their hands on your most precious items.
Standard crossbodies can be worn over the shoulder or, as the name suggests, across the body. More specific crossbodies like belt bags and sling bags can be worn across the chest or back or even around the waist — fanny pack-style.
When worn correctly, it’s harder for crossbodies to slip off your shoulder or be stolen than totes and handbags. Crossbodies also allow shoppers to go hands-free, which is helpful on challenging hikes, cycling adventures, and when there’s other luggage to carry.
Typically, airlines only allow travelers to bring two items into the cabin with them: a carry-on — which is usually stowed in the overhead bins — and a smaller personal item that must fit under the seat in front of you. Most crossbody bags are small enough to be considered a personal item (18 x 14 x 8 inches) and some larger ones count as carry-ons (22 x 14 x 9 inches). But if you’re hoping to bring a crossbody into the cabin in addition to another personal item and carry-on, TSA will likely ask you to pack your crossbody into another piece of luggage or leave it at the airport altogether. Something smaller and more compact, like a phone purse , might work better since it can be stashed in a carry-on or personal item easily if necessary.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations
By Claudia Looi 2 Comments
Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.
Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.
Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.
The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean
To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow. Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.
The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:
1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.
2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.
10. Teatralnaya Metro Station (Theatre Metro Station) is located near the Bolshoi Theatre.

The trains and stations of the Moscow Metro
2 Comments · Posted by Alex Smirnov in Cities , Travel , Video
The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.
The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.
Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.
The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.
