The state of Jharkhand was crafted from the southern region of Bihar. The state shares its borders with the neighbouring states, namely, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and West Bengal. Most of the part of this state lies in the region of the Chota Nagpur Plateau and is popularly called as the Vananchal, which means the land of woods.

Much part of this state is under the cover of the lush green forests, nearly 30 percent. These forests are the abode to the Asian Elephant and the Royal Bengal tiger. There are a large number of zoological gardens and National parks which are located in this state, and thus give the state its panoramic variety. These National parks boasts a variety of bisons, elephants, tigers, wild boars, sambhars, deer, pythons, foxes, langurs, blue bulls, rhesus monkeys and rabbits. The mammals which can be seen in the region of this state includes hares, wild cats, honey badgers,  wolves, giant squirrels and antelopes. The most famous spots of the wildlife in this region are Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary and Betla National Park.

The capital of the state, Ranchi is an important hub for the state and is houses many attractions for tourists. The various beautiful waterfalls such as Jonha Falls, Hirni Falls, Dassam Falls and Hundru Falls located in this region provide some scenic glimpses of the state to tourists. Even though devotees have to climb around 300 steps to reach the temple, the breathtaking view of the entire city makes the climb absolutely worth it. Hundreds of devotees flock to this hilltop temple every year, especially around the time of Shravan, which typically falls between the months of July and August. It is widely believed by the devotees that Pahari Mandir has the power to fulfill their wishes. At the foot of the hill is the Ranchi lake which hosts a ghat where visitors can cleanse themselves before they climb the steps towards the Pahari temple. 1. Netarhat

Netarhat is an idyllic town in the district of Latehar. This hill station is one of the best places to see in Jharkhand. Magnolia Sunset Point will surely take your breath away. There is also a dense pine forest there with a very otherworldly feel that evoke a sense of peace, serenity and oneness with nature . The Ghagri Falls are also a sight to behold. All of this in one place sounds unbelievable, and at Netarhat, you better believe it!

Netarhat is 153 kms from Ranchi. You can drive down and make it a road trip , or you can take buses between these two places.

2. Betla National Park

Betla National Park is also located in the Latehar district of Jharkhand. It was one of the first national parks in India under Project Tiger , hence becoming one of the first tiger reserves in the country. It is the only one in Jharkhand. The National Park also contains a wolf sanctuary. You can also see elephants here in large numbers after monsoons.

There are also hot springs and waterfalls inside the national park. Interestingly, Palamu Forts are located within a densely forested area of Betla National Park. These forts were constructed in the 16 th century and some parts of the forts are still standing inside the perimeter of the park.

3. Patratu Valley

The long meandering roads are great for a road trip and beautiful pictures along the way. There are also water dams that you can visit there, and of course, so much natural beauty! It is a relatively unexplored place in Jharkhand and is consequently quite pristine. At the top of the hills, you can view the Patratu dams as well.  You may find a few tourists, but for the most part it will not be crowded. It will feel like your own personal paradise with a beautiful view!

Patratu town is only 34 kms from Ranchi. You can make a day trip out of it. However, it is advisable to return back before nightfall as the area may be unsafe. Allegedly, there may still be Naxalite presence in these areas.

4. Maluti Terracotta Temples

The Maluti Temples are a group of 72 terracotta temples dating back to the 17 th century. They are located in Maluti village in the Dumka district of Jharkhand. According to the ITRHD (Indian Trust for Rural Heritage and Development), all these temples were built between the 17 th and 19 th century. The Global Heritage Fund has declared the Maluti Temples as one of the world’s 12 most endangered cultural heritage sites, and the only one from India to make the list.

Initially 108 temples were built, all dedicated to Lord Shiva. Of those, only 72 are still standing. The place has immense cultural and architectural significance. The distance of Maluti village from Dumka is 55 kms.

5. Tagore Hill

Tagore Hill, in Morabadi, is a very well-known spot within Jharkhand. Tourists who are aware of the family legacy also come by to see this hill station . Interestingly, many people think this place is associated with Rabindranath Tagore. This is not actually the case. The place is named as such due to his older brother, Jyotirindranath Tagore. He was also a very well-known playwright, and moved here in 1912.

Tagore built two buildings here, and the local zamindar donated the land and buildings to him, as he was impressed with Tagore’s family legacy. You can climb the stairs to get to the top of the hill, which is 300 ft high. This is where one of his buildings, Brahma Sthal is located. From here, you can get a breathtaking 360-degree view of the surroundings. You can see Ranchi town, the valleys, and the lush greenery from here.
