GUEST REVIEW

Butterlyonlyright.png

“ Just got home from our little holiday at Bozedown. Had such a relaxing time. So many details in and around the “tent” make for such an easy stay. We sat around open fires. Wandered down into Pangbourne and relaxed by the river. Explored Whitchurch and “Pizza night” at The Sun pub. The owners were present but discreet. None of us were ready to leave. Would not hesitate to recommend to others and would happily return again (and again). ”

I’m sure you’ll be thrilled to hear that there are lots of amazing places to choose from, so you’ll be sure to find your perfect match.

Oxfordshire doesn’t do anything half-heartedly, whether it’s its glorious green countryside, universities or architecture.

And luckily for you, its glamping accommodation is much the same!

So from treehouses and safari tents to shepherd’s huts and yurts, here are some of the most amazing places to go glamping in Oxfordshire.

1. Oxford Riverside Glamping

oxford-riverside-glamping-tents-lit-up-at-night-glamping-oxfordshire

Price per night:  From £90 for up to 4 people

Location:  Swinford, nr Oxford

Oxford Riverside Glamping is a magical little retreat.

It’s got everything you need for a relaxing getaway, whether it’s a family break or a romantic escape that you’re looking for, and I know you’ll love it.

You’ll find their stylish bell tents in a picturesque riverside setting, offering an opportunity to truly unwind and reconnect with nature.

Each tent sleeps up to four people, providing a comfortable and cosy space to bond with your loved ones.

They each come with their own BBQ and firewood, so you can cook up a storm under the starry night sky after a day of exploring.

For a truly beautiful glamping experience, look no further than this.

What guests say:   “Must visit. Great retreat for those who want to escape busy city life. Everything is provided. Plates, cutlery, wood for a fire pit as well as charcoal for a BBQ. Great views and easy access to nearby villages, which are within walking distance. Comfy heated tents. Bring your loved ones and you will not regret it. Next time I’m getting my rod as there are plenty of fishing places along the Thames River.”

2. Westwell Downs Shepherds Huts

westwell-downs-shepherds-hut-glamping-oxfordshire

Price per night:  From £160 for 2 people

Location:  Westwell, nr Burford

The Westwell Downs Shepherd Huts are an absolute delight.

There are three bespoke shepherd’s huts to choose from, each with its own quaint personality that you’ll be sure to fall in love with.

From the comfort of your own hut, you’ll be able to take in the ever-changing seasonal views around you on this four-generation family farm.

The huts are beautifully presented, providing a place to rest and restore.

Unwind in the comfort of your own wood-fired hot tub or cosy up around the fire pit after spending the day walking the miles of surrounding trails.

This is a quintessential glamping experience, and it’s not to be missed!

What guests say:   “We had such a fabulous time at westwell. The huts were amazing, very clean and had a nice homely feel. The little extra touches definitely made a difference and we really enjoyed the welcome hamper. You guys have really thought of everything. The only recommendations would be to enclose the dog-friendly hut’s outside area and have a designated dog walking area. We would definitely revisit, just without our dog.”

3. Treedwellers Treehouses

curved-treedwellers-treehouse-surrounded-by-trees-glamping-oxfordshire

Price per night:  From £210 for 2 people or from £290 for 4 people

Having opened their doors in 2022, TreeDwellers Treehouses have really made waves on the local glamping scene since opening.

Launching not one, not two, but seven eco treehouses, TreeDwellers is set to take the Cotswolds by storm, and you’re not going to want to miss it.

These unique curved tunnel-shaped treehouses are very rare, making them all the more special.

Five of the treehouses sleep two people, and the other two sleep four people, meaning couples, friends and families all get to be a part of the fun!

And luckily for you, the beauty of these treehouses extends far past their exteriors.

Inside, you’ll discover luxurious interiors filled with super comfy double beds, roll-top baths, and so much more!

What guests say:  “The treehouse was one of my favourite places that I’ve ever stayed. We completely fell in love with it. It’s a super unique space and it just totally blew us away. If you’re looking for a magical stay that’s unlike any other, then this is it. We will definitely be back!”

4. Starlight Shepherd’s Hut

exterior-of-starlight-shepherds-hut-glamping-oxfordshire

Price per night:  From £85 for 2 people

Location:  Carswell Marsh, nr Faringdon

Starlight Shepherd’s Hut is a luxurious rural retreat, and it’s one of my favourite places to go glamping in Oxfordshire.

It’s cosy and super romantic, and it’s one of the best options on this list for a couple’s break away from it all, there’s no doubt about it.

As the name suggests, the hut is fantastic for stargazing, so if you want to watch the canopy of stars unfold above you, then this is the place for you.

The focus here is on complete luxury, and it will absolutely blow you away.

Inside you’ll find plenty of tempting treats waiting for you, from delicious biscuits to the Hut Chocolate Corner, as well as being greeted with the Starlight Express breakfast on arrival!

This is easily one of the most special places to stay around here.

What guests say:   “Wonderful little space! Me and my partner went for our anniversary and it was perfect; upon arrival, the hut was spotless and we were pleasantly surprised with complimentary items (biscuits, Prosecco, fresh eggs etc.). Babette provided clear information, including local activities and restaurants. The local area was beautiful with lots of walking routes and picturesque cottages! Babette’s description of the area was perfectly accurate and every penny was worth it. Many thanks!”

5. Podidyllic Glamping Pod

podidyllic-glamping-pod-in-field-glamping-oxfordshire

Price per night:  From £110 for 2 people

Location: Kirtlington, nr Bicester

Podidyllic Glamping Pod is, well, pretty idyllic!

It’s a beautiful rural retreat, offering a place to truly relax and unwind.

The pod has a tactile, calming quality about its appearance, and from the moment you cross the threshold you’ll feel your worries start to fall away.

There’s a porthole in the pod which you can use to stargaze, or you can cover it if you want to have a longer lie-in in the morning.

This one is a great choice no matter the season, as it’s fully insulated and equipped with underfloor heating to keep you cosy all year round.

Cook up a storm on the gas BBQ as day turns to night for the perfect ending to your day.

What guests say:   “This is a great little place to stay! So unique. The pod looks out over the fields with horses in, which makes it a lovely place to relax. Outside seating and a gas BBQ to use, we made the most of this and had a lovely evening outside! The living area is very clever, everything you need is there, just very compact. Lovely touches like, juice and croissants left. Melissa is great, warm and welcoming.”

6. Hill View Farm

Location:  Poundon, nr Bicester

The views from Hill View Farm are nothing short of jaw-dropping.

It’s the ideal choice for a romantic break in the countryside, and it’s hard not to fall head-over-heels in love with this beauty.

On arrival, you’ll get a welcome hamper packed with all the basics you need for a comfortable stay.

Relax in style at this beautiful shepherd’s hut!

What guests say:   “My partner and I stayed in the shepherd’s hut on Hill View Farm at the weekend for our anniversary and can do nothing but sing its praises. Firstly the owners of the farm were incredibly welcoming in a homely way rather than in a business way which made me and my partner instantly comfortable. The hut itself was an absolute delight to stay in, it was very cosy and comfortable and if it wasn’t for the fact that we were new to Oxfordshire and wanted to look round we would not have left!”

7. The Chilterns View Safari Tent

the-chilterns-view-safari-tent-with-hot-tub-glamping-oxfordshire

Price per night:  From £180 for 4 people, £270 for 6 people and £360 for 8 people

Location:  Ewelme, nr Didcot

Obviously, the main reason to stay at  The Chilterns View Safari Tent is for that huge bubbling hot tub, but there are plenty of other reasons too.

It offers total privacy and seclusion, with wonderful south-facing views that will be sure to absolutely blow you away.

Watch the sun set over the hills with a glass of fizz in hand as you sit alongside the fire pit, or wander to one of the nearby country pubs for a hearty meal.

You’ll find it hard to leave this glorious space, with its cosy interiors and spacious veranda, equipped with a hot tub, hammock and comfortable seating.

This is easily one of the best places to go glamping in Oxfordshire!

What guests say:   “A group of us stayed at the safari tent for a 30th birthday. Wow, it really was stunning. The tent is perfect for a big group, with individual rooms and a big space to gather around the fire if it’s a bit cold. It is well kitted out and I could not fault it, everything has been thought of. Not to mention the views as you come out of the tent and they can be enjoyed from the hot tub which is well maintained.”

8. Honeysuckle Shepherds Hut

exterior-of-honeysuckle-shepherds-hut-with-doors-wide-open

Price per night:  From £86 for 2 people

Honeysuckle Shepherds Hut is pretty much the definition of ‘cute’.

It’s got stunning sunset views across the fields in the Chilterns, and I can promise you that you’ll have a memorable stay here.

Curl up around the fire pit with a glass of wine and a good book, or cosy up indoors with the log burner on if the nights are a little chilly.

The hut is located on a working farm, so keep an eye out for the tractor trundling by!

You’ll have your own secluded private garden area, complete with seating and a bunch of wildflowers to add a pop of colour.

This is the ultimate glamping experience, and you’re going to love it!

What guests say:   “We had such a wonderful time at Honeysuckle! It was the perfect romantic getaway. It was incredibly peaceful, clean and comfortable and we had the best night’s sleep! We cooked most of our meals on the little hob because we wanted to spend as much time as possible at the hut. There are so many great things to say about this hut and the surrounding area but I think the highlight was sitting in the garden by the fire with our glass of wine, watching the sun set over the fields- that was pretty special! Thank you, Sue!”

If the views above don’t already have you rushing to book a stay at Bozedown Boltholes Safari Tents , then I’m not sure what will convince you.

Well, how about that gorgeous traditional stone-ringed campfire for outdoor cooking?

This tipi is one of my favourite places to go glamping in Oxford for its unique factor alone.

There aren’t many glamping tipis in the country but Ye Olde Swan delivers just that!

The site is based on an island surrounded by the River Thames, and it creates a sense of total peace and serenity.

There’s a country pub just a short distance away, as well as paddleboards that you can hire from the jetty just outside, so there’s plenty to keep you busy.

Dogs are welcome here too, so it’s a great choice if you want to bring your four-legged friend along!

It offers the perfect countryside escape, with boutique décor and a stylish and comfortable interior that feels like a real home away from home.

They’ve thought of everything here, from a Neom essential oils pod to a wood-fired hot tub that’s perfect for unwinding in.

The hut can be found in the centre of a pretty village, just a stone’s throw away from the village pub for those evenings that you don’t want to cook.

The Shepherd’s Hut is a truly delightful place to go glamping in Oxfordshire.

It’s set on a working farm in the beautiful North Oxfordshire countryside, looking out over paddocks and woodland that’s filled with wildlife.

The hut is close to the market towns of Bicester, Brackley and Buckingham, so there’s plenty to explore as well as the gorgeous countryside!

At your hut you’ll find your very own BBQ, perfect for cooking up a storm al fresco.

Keep an eye out for the owners’ dog and cat, as they may pop by for a visit, and be sure to give the resident horses a stroke as you pass by.

What guests say:   “Very peaceful location to get away from it all. My partner and I booked the shepherd’s hut for three days and had a blast. It was secluded and had amazing stargazing opportunities. Fiona was an awesome host and very helpful with anything we needed, but also left us to our own devices which was a welcome change from other locations I’ve been to. Thanks a bunch for the stay!”

21. Abbey Farm Shepherd’s Huts

kitchen-and-double-bed-inside-abbey-farm-shepherds-hut

Price per night:  From £130 for 2 people

Location:  North Weston, nr Thame

Abbey Farm Shepherd’s Huts are a gorgeous pair of huts nestled at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

They’re the perfect choice for anyone who wants to get away for an idyllic, tranquil break away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Abbey Farm is a 270-acre farm, so you really will feel a million miles away from it all here.

There are two huts to choose from – The Roost and Kite’s Nest – both of which are absolutely stunning, so you won’t be disappointed, no matter which one you choose.

They’ve got a unique feel about them, providing a peaceful place to recharge and unwind.

Both huts also come with a lovely hot tub, which is always a bonus in my books!

What guests say:   “The most beautiful shepherd’s hut. What a delight to stay at Abbey Farm. All instructions were clear and easy to follow. The hut has everything you need. The shower was lovely and powerful. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The hot tub was such a treat! We can’t wait to come back again! Thank you for a lovely stay.”

22. Haddon Acre Yurt

large-green-haddon-acre-yurt-with-orange-door

Price per night:  From £128 for 4 people

Location:  Sires Hill, nr Didcot

Ideal for retreats and relaxation, Haddon Acre Yurt is a real treat.

The interiors are lovely and spacious, and the yurt has been beautifully hand-painted, having been imported directly from Mongolia.

It’s located in gorgeous countryside, with plenty of places to explore nearby.

On-site they host a range of gatherings and events, so this is a place that’s all about community and the warmth of togetherness.

This is a place for unwinding, grounding and meditating, and you are encouraged to use your time here to reconnect with yourself and your energy.

For a retreat that will help you truly reset, this beautiful yurt will tick all the boxes.

What guests say:   “A really magical place to stay! The yurt is so cosy and our kids adored staying in what felt like a mini circus tent! The location is second to none, just a fifteen-minute walk from the Wittenham Clumps! Sue was a lovely, welcoming and incredibly generous host leaving us the most abundant welcome hamper! Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend! We hope to be back one day soon!”

23. Campfires and Stars

campfire-and-stars-safari-tent-and-bell-tent-in-field

Price per night:  From £178 for 2 people, £356 for 4 people, £534 for 6 people, and £712 for 8 people

Location: Sibford Ferris, nr Chipping Norton

Campfires and Stars is a great option if you love life under canvas but also enjoy having all your creature comforts to hand.

There are bell tents, safari tents and a 1920s showman’s wagon to choose from, so there really is something for every group here.

For me, it’s all about the safari tents, as they’re super special.

They sleep up to eight people, while the bell tents sleep up to six, so this is a great option if you’re looking for somewhere to go with a larger group.

Whichever accommodation you choose, you’ll be sure to leave feeling refreshed and recharged, as this really is the ultimate retreat.

What guests say:   “The perfect location for a hen party! We had the most fabulous weekend with a silent disco, time in the wood-fired hot tub, and BBQs! A brilliant way to catch up with friends! Sam even drove us too and from a local festival in his Range Rover! Thank you!”

24. The Place For Ewe Shepherd’s Hut

steps-leading-up-to-the-place-for-ewe-shepherds-hut

Price per night:  From £75 for 2 people

Location:  Oxford

The Place For Ewe Shepherd’s Hut is, well, the place for you!

It can be found in a delightful rural setting that feels miles away from urban life but is actually just a stone’s throw from all that Oxford has to offer.

If you don’t fancy cooking during your stay, the nearby The Perch Pub is a real treat, offering delicious pub grub in a cosy setting.

The hut provides the perfect base for exploring the beauty of the Oxfordshire countryside, and it’s got a real home away from home feel about it.

After a long day of exploring, fire up the BBQ and cook up a feast to dine on al fresco.

There’s no better way to dine than under the starry sky if you ask me!

What guests say:   “We had a wonderful one-night stay at Katherine’s place. The carriage gave us a nice peaceful retreat after a lovely meal at the Perch which was within walking distance from the location. Katherine was very helpful and accommodating of us arriving a little earlier than check-in. Thank you!”

25. Glamping Thorpe

steps-leading-up-to-trailer-in-glamping-thorpe-field

Price per night:  From £1,100 for 12 people (can sleep up to 24)

Location:  Thorpe Mandeville, nr Banbury

Glamping Thorpe is certainly one of the more unique places to go glamping in Oxfordshire.

It’s nestled by a wooded area just a short distance from the village of Thorpe Mandeville, and it’s perfect for large groups.

They try to keep numbers to around 12 but the site can sleep up to 24 guests, so should you have a larger group number, just get in touch for a full quote!

There are four unique army trailers to stay in, which are unlike any other glamping accommodation I’ve seen, that’s for sure.

There’s also an Orsom party space that’s covered with street art and is complete with a stereo, disco lights and a chill-out area for partying into the night.

If you’re looking for the most unique place to go glamping in Oxfordshire, then you may well have found it here!

What guests say:   “I booked two days in the glamping field for myself and 11 friends. The facilities were better than advertised. Perfect place to hang out in the sunshine (albeit we were short on that). Would recommend this place to any large group. Unique location and miles ahead of any similar site I’ve been to. Honourable mention to the host Paul, who couldn’t have done more to help us. Highly recommended.”

Brownscombe Luxury Glamping

Safari tents

safari tent oxfordshire

N estled on the slopes of a two acre field full of buttercups, our luxury canvas lodges are perfect for families and couples. There are four tents, Bovey , Dart , Tamar and Yealm (named after our favourite Devon rivers), each facing in a slightly different direction to make the most of the awesome views and to maximise privacy.

  • Bovey  looks down over the valley and welcomes up to two dogs (over one year old). There is a fire pit BBQ and an option to have a wood fired hot tub set up outside your tent for the duration of your stay. Bovey is great for babies and toddlers and those wanting early nights, as it is tucked into the corner of the field  and has a full baby pack included; wooden cot and high chair, baby bath and changing mat.
  • Dart is in the middle of the field, and has a particularly high deck. You get lovely views of the windmill tower in the distance. No dogs allowed in Dart and all bedding is hypo-allergenic. Option to have electric hot tub outside your tent.
  • Tamar sits at the far end of the field and has a view up Brownscombe hill – great for those seeking more privacy. Up to 2 dogs (over one year old) are welcome in Tamar and there is also an option to have an electric hot tub set up outside your tent at 36 degrees for the duration of your stay.
  • Yealm  is south west facing and is in it’s own field. It is on flat ground, so ideal if you have a sleeping toddler that you have to carry from the car or if anyone in your party would struggle climbing a hill. It has the option of an electric hot tub set at 36 degrees for the length of your stay. Great for babies and toddlers as full baby pack included; wooden cot and high chair, baby bath and changing mat.

There’s plenty of space (over 30 meters) between each Tent, ensuring your privacy but for families it probably won’t be long before your children make friends and you’re all getting together over pizza night in the Barn. The Glamping field is car-free for total tranquillity, once you have unloaded your car outside of your tent and returned it to the car park – no need for wheel barrows, unless the children insist!

“ this is the type of holiday that childhood memories are made of and your attention to detail and comfy beds have made it perfect for us too!”

This is camping, but not as you know it

About as far away from a cramped, cold, leaky, flapping bit of canvas as you can get, these safari tents are spacious and luxurious with a wood burning stove and radiators in the bedrooms.

Each has two bedrooms – a double and a twin – plus the sweetest double cabin room. Comfy beds and sumptuous bed linens make certain everyone will sleep like a baby – especially after all that fresh air. There is even a socket to charge your phone or to use a hairdryer, next to the bedside light.

A sitting area features a sofa piled high with cushions, and there’s a roomy dining space and a cooking area kitted out with everything you’ll need. No worries about where to store the milk or how to make supper: there’s running hot and cold water, a fridge, electric hob and a large, log-fired range for both cooking and heating.

Last but by no means least, an en suite shower-room has piping hot water and a heated towel rail with organic paraben free hair and body wash products and there’s also a separate cloakroom with a proper flushing loo and a wash-basin with delicious handmade Cornish soap and hand cream.

Closer to nature

Each safari tent is built on a raised platform, with a huge timber deck. There’s plenty of space to kick back and relax on the Adirondack chairs. Read a book, nap, sip a coffee or do nothing but stare up at the sky, watching the scudding clouds or, at night, the twinkling stars (no light pollution here). During the Spring and Autumn we have special couples breaks midweek, when it is particularly peaceful.

At dusk you may spot the barn owl hunting in the valley or catch a glimpse of a deer in the early morning mists.

In fact, the wildlife here is amazing: rabbits, foxes, badgers and many types of wild bird, including the rare cirl bunting. And you never know, you might just spot the even rarer greater horseshoe bat. We have bird boxes for our Barn Owl and Kestrels who both raised chicks this year, and as you drift off to sleep you will probably hear our resident Tawny Owls as they patrol the valley.

A natural wonderland

Berkshire Pigs at Brownscombe Luxury Glamping UK farm

Your children will love it here. They can roam to their heart’s content exploring the Brownscombe site, collecting eggs and helping to feed our friendly pigs, sheep, chickens and ducks. There’s a secret play area and den at the bottom of the meadow, enclosed by a willow hedge and with sawn-off logs for seats. And on rainy days there’s always the games room to fall back on.

Delicious local produce

Six brown and white eggs on a plate

You can order breakfast and barbecue hampers from our little shop, the Brownscombe Larder . Stock up on basics such as bread, milk, bacon and eggs, and try some of our amazing local produce. With a day’s notice we can also provide one-pot meals, so you can return from a boat trip or an outing to the beach to find something yummy simmering on the stove.

THE HISTORY OF THE COMPANY CREATION

1993 how the construction company remstroy was created   the year 1993 was a period when a lot of construction companies, which had been working successfully during the soviet times and had rich staff capacity, were forced to cease their activity for various reasons. a lot of capable specialists either had to look for another job or change their field. but there were also those who were willing to realise their potential in the field of construction in accordance with the received degree and the experience they had accumulated. thus, in 1993 in elektrostal (moscow oblast) a group of specialists and people sharing each other’s ideas, who had enormous educational background and the highest degree in architecture, organized and registered ooo firm erg which began its rapid development and successful work, offering its service both on the construction market and other areas. 2000 industrial construction is the main area   seven years of successful work have shown that combining different types of activities in the same company is not always convenient. and in the year 2000 the founders of ooo firm erg decided to create and register a monoprofile construction company ooo remstroy construction company. industrial construction was chosen as the priority area. it was in this area that the directors of ooo sk remstroy began their working life and grew as specialists. in order to achieve the set goal, they selected a mobile team of professionals in the field of industrial construction, which allows us to cope with the tasks assigned to ooo sk remstroy throughout russia and the near abroad. 2010 manufacturing of metal structures   we possess modern equipment that allows us to carry out the entire cycle of works on the manufacture of metal structures of any complexity without assistance. designing – production – installation of metal structures. a staff of professionals and well-coordinated interaction of the departments let us carry out the work as soon as possible and in accordance with all customer’s requirements.” extract from the list of members of self-regulatory organizations, construction.

Safari tents in Oxfordshire guide

Reaching into three of England’s Areas of Outstanding Beauty, Oxfordshire is a countryside lover’s paradise. Hills, rivers, valleys, and forests can be found across the region—from the Chiltern Hills to the Cotswolds—offering year-round adventure in varying shades. Ramblers can explore National Trails including the Thames Path and the Ridgeway, while boaters and bikers can discover the Oxford Canal and its adjoining cycle lanes. Glamping is an increasingly popular way to soak up the quintessential English countryside, though an abundance of private farms, riverside retreats, and secluded campgrounds offers plenty of options besides.

Where to go

Oxford surrounds.

Boasting Green Flag parks, botanic gardens, and nature reserves, there’s plenty for outdoor enthusiasts both inside and outside the Oxford Ring Road. Port Meadow is a popular spot for wildlife watching, while Shotover Country Park offers great views of the Oxford skyline from its bike-friendly trails and footpaths. A number of campsites and caravan spots can be found within a 30-minute drive of the city centre, while private farms offer plenty of countryside camping spots just outside the ring road.

The River Thames and Oxford Canal

There’s something special about camping by the water, and for a landlocked county, Oxfordshire manages to do waterside camping impressively well. First, there’s the River Thames and its tributaries, the largest of which is the River Cherwell. The adjacent Thames Path National Trail follows its route for 184 miles with a substantial section in Oxfordshire. While the river flows west to east, the much narrower, man-made Oxford Canal runs north to south across the county as a quiet waterway with plenty of wildlife and narrowboats. The banks of both the River Thames and the Oxford Canal are home to some great waterside campsites. If making your way along the Thames, either on the water or on foot beside it, you’ll find plenty of campsites within view of the river. Tent-only sites are great for hikers, bikers, and canoeists, while other riverside pitches welcome campervans and motorhomes.

The Cotswolds AONB

One of the largest protected landscapes in England, the Cotswolds offer outdoor adventure at every turn with its rolling hills and honey-hued village buildings. The rural haven can be reached in less than an hour from Oxford, and a range of secluded campgrounds, working farms, and luxury lodges provide plenty of accommodation options. Camping in The Cotswolds gives you the opportunity to explore its 790 square miles and 3,000 miles of footpaths and bridleways. Wychwood Wild Garden and Foxholes Nature Reserve are two popular spots for walkers and wildlife watchers, while the National Arboretum at Westonbirt is also worth a visit.

The Chilterns AONB

Rising up between London and Oxford, these chalk hills are home to an expansive network of cycleways, footpaths, and off-road tracks that pass ancient landmarks, hillforts, and villages deep in the English countryside. The Ridgeway, the UK’s oldest road, is among the most famous of these trails. And what the Chilterns lack in size they make up for in accessibility, easy to reach from London and Oxford as a great place for quick camping breaks. Glamping is increasingly popular in the area, though field campsites, working farms, and caravan parks offer basic options too. A thin sliver of the North Wessex AONB meets the Chilterns AONB in the county’s south-east corner too.

Top towns to visit in Oxfordshire

  • On the edge of the Chilterns, Henley-on-Thames is known as the home of the Henley Royal Regatta, which takes place over five days every summer. The town heaves during this quintessentially English event of blazers, boats, and boaters. If you visit out of season, you can still get a flavour for the event by standing on the town’s 18th-century stone bridge and visiting the River and Rowing Museum.
  • A charming market town on the banks of the Cherwell, Banbury may sound familiar thanks to the nursery rhyme: “Ride a Cock Horse to Banbury Cross.” Don’t miss the bronze statue that commemorates this claim to fame! Banbury is also a convenient launch point for exploration of the Midlands to the north, the Cotswolds to the west, and wider Oxfordshire to the south. The region is a camping hot spot too, with a number of private sites offering all manner of amenities, including dog-friendly field camping, luxury yurts, and family-friendly caravan parks.
  • Half an hour’s drive south west of Oxford, historic Faringdon is a convenient gateway to the Uffington White Horse, and offers a range of unique camping options to boot. Here, you can camp on a Thames island in the grounds of Ye Olde Swan Pub, sleep in the lap of luxury at a farm campsite, or experience back-to-basics camping on riverside sites ideal for Thames Path ramblers and boaters.
  • Abingdon and Bicester are similarly attractive market towns while the medieval village of Burford on the edge of the Cotswolds has an old-world charm all of its own. If you’re looking for more things to do while camping in Oxfordshire, the county is also home to historic sites including the magnificent Blenheim Palace and the impressive Ashmolean Museum.
