🚴🏿Les contours du 73ème Tour international cycliste de la Guadeloupe dévoilés

Le Comité régional de cyclisme des îles de Guadeloupe (CRCIG) a présenté les contours de la 73 ème édition du Tour international de Guadeloupe, mardi soir (7 mai 2024), à l’occasion d’une soirée organisée au complexe cinématographique des Abymes. Cette compétition, considérée par beaucoup comme " le plus grand évènement sportif de l’archipel ", classée UCI 2.2, s’annonce corsée pour les équipes qui s’y frotteront.

Plusieurs nouveautés quant au tracé

Le Tour 2024 se tiendra à la fin des grandes vacances scolaires, soit du 23 août au 1 er septembre. Il s’agissait de ne pas faire concurrence à l’évènement planétaire que représentent les Jeux Olympiques, qui se déroulent en France cette année.

Au programme   : un prologue et neuf étapes, pour un total de 1391,5 kilomètres à parcourir. Le prologue sera disputé non pas à Pointe-à-Pitre comme habituellement, mais à Basse-Terre   ; c’est une grande première.

Cette année nous avons un grand départ à Basse-Terre, le chef-lieu. Un prologue de 3,2km en quasiment faux plat montant, qui va permettre d’avoir un maillot jaune à fort potentiel, parce que nous allons culminer au niveau de l’hôtel de Région. Autre particularité cette année : nous avons une arrivée inédite à l’Habituée, à Capesterre-Belle-Eau. Nous n’irons pas jusqu’aux chutes du carbet, mais nous allons voir les chutes. Donc, là aussi, c’est une innovation. Sans compter l’étape reine du jeudi 29, avec les deux ascensions des Mamelles, dans les deux versants, pour une arrivée à Pointe-Noire, dans un quartier inédit aussi : à Grenade. La caravane sillonnera le territoire et 16 communes auront l’honneur d’être le théâtre de départs et d’arrivées d’étapes.

11 équipes internationales et des Guadeloupéens qui " vont peser "

Onze équipes des quatre coins du monde ont été invitées à participer à cette course très attendue localement, par un public fidèle et fervent. Elles aligneront plus de 100 coureurs.

Une dizaine de clubs guadeloupéens seront aussi de la partie.

Depuis l’an dernier, les coureurs Guadeloupéens ont pris conscience que le Tour reste une épreuve internationale. Donc, il faut travailler en conséquence. Benjamin Le Ny [NDLR   : vainqueur du Tour 2023], Damien Urcel ont franchi un palier physique et psychologique cette année, pour résister à 10 jours de course. Je pense que ce sont des coureurs qui peuvent briguer un podium, voire gagner le Tour. Ils dominent la saison, cette année. Je pense que ce sont des coureurs qui vont pouvoir porter très haut les couleurs de la Guadeloupe... entre autres. On a aussi une jeunesse qui arrive derrière. Il y a les Mévin Gène, Jérémie Deloumeaux... pas mal d’autres jeunes qui émergent et, même, Boris Carêne [NDRL : triple vainqueur du Tour] qui, avant sa chute l’an dernier, commençait à revenir en grande condition. The Rolling Stones opened their Stones Tour ’24 Hackney Diamonds on Sunday to a sold-out crowd of more than 70,000 fans at NRG Stadium in Houston.

The Stones played just three new tracks from the album, choosing to focus instead on classic hits including “Start Me Up,” “Gimme Shelter,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and “Satisfaction,” according to a press release. The decision to focus on older material was not unsurprising for a group with more than six decades of songs to choose from.

It was the rockers’ first performance of material from their 2023 effort “Hackney Diamonds” since the album’s surprise release at the 600-seat club Racket in New York last October. (Fans and celebrities packed that tiny venue expecting merely a Stones show and instead were treated to a breadth of new songs — and a Lady Gaga cameo.)

As the tour rolls on, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and company plan to make stadium stops in Glendale, Ariz.; Las Vegas; Seattle; East Rutherford, N.J.; Foxboro, Mass.; Orlando; Atlanta; Philadelphia; Cleveland; Denver; Chicago; Vancouver; Inglewood; and Santa Clara.

When the Stones hit SoFi Stadium this summer, they’ll be accompanied by the War and Treaty on July 10 and the Linda Lindas on July 13.

“Hackney Diamonds” is the rockers’ first studio album of original material in nearly two decades, following 2005’s “A Bigger Bang.” It’s also the Stones’ first LP since the death of founding drummer Charlie Watts in 2021. It’s the first time the band has been on the road since its 60th anniversary tour in 2022, and the tour will also feature a stop at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on May 2.

“Charlie was one of the funniest guys I’ve ever known,” Richards told Times music critic Mikael Wood in 2021, “and the most unlikely man to be famous. He hated that side of the job and used to savagely take the piss out of it.”

When “Hackney Diamonds” game out, Wood wrote in his album review, “The songs blend the same ingredients the Stones have been using since the beginning — blues, rock, soul, country, gospel — but they’re tighter and punchier than on any of the band’s previous late-era LPs.”

Meanwhile, according to Rolling Stone , back at the Houston concert one fan said, “People say Joe Biden is too old to be president. They need to look at Mick!”

That said, the Rolling Stones’ 48th tour is sponsored by AARP.
