Haim Will Hit the Road for ‘One More Haim’ North American Tour in 2022

By Larisha Paul

Larisha Paul

Haim have announced their 2022 headlining, arena, and theater spanning One More Haim tour, slated to begin in Las Vegas, Nevada on April 24 and wrap in Bend, Oregon on June 14.

Across the 27-date tour, the trio of sisters will make stops in Chicago, Houston, Miami, Washington, DC, Seattle, Toronto, Philadelphia, and more, including a night at New York’s Madison Square Garden on May 17.

Tickets for the One More Haim tour will be available starting Friday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. local time via Live Nation and the official Haim website .

The Haim sisters are bringing some special guests on the road, including Buzzy Lee, Faye Webster, Sasami, Waxahatchee, and Princess Nokia — all for select dates throughout the tour.

The country-wide shows will mark Haim’s first official U.S. tour for the Grammy-nominated album Women In Music Pt. III , which dropped in June last year. The trio first attempted a tour of semi-secret shows in delicatessens across America last spring in anticipation of the album, but only got through two turkey-and-cheese-scented shows before the pandemic shut the trek down.

“When we got our first record, I was 21 or 22, and now I’m 28,” Alana told Rolling Stone last year. “And with growth and age, you get more confidence. I feel like a completely different person than when we first started this band, and I feel like this record does that justice.”

HAIM released their critically acclaimed third album Women in Music Pt. III in 2020, but were unable to tour it due to the coronavirus pandemic. But after two years of patience, Este, Danielle and Alana Haim revealed on Monday (Dec. 6) they’ll be headed on the road in 2022 with a hilarious announcement video posted to their Twitter.

Danielle and Este are seeing hanging out and doing an expertly choreographed dance in an empty venue to “This Is What Dreams Are Made Of” from The Lizzie McGuire Movie soundtrack. As the two eldest sisters conclude their dance, Alana storms into the camera’s view, wearing Lizzie McGuire’s hilarious igloo-printed dress and curses out her sisters for excluding her. “What the f–k?” she asks them, pretending to be upset. “WE’RE GOING ON TOUR! this is what dreams are made of,” the women captioned the video.

Feature Artist: HAIM Now Opening For North American Leg Of Eras Tour

  • Julia Laughlin
  • July 28, 2023

Last Saturday (July 22) HAIM joined Taylor Swift on stage at her Seattle show for the Eras Tour. It’s great to see one of our Music Daily Discoveries now hitting big stadium stages!

On July 22 Taylor Swift invited HAIM as the special guests for her stop in Seattle on the Eras Tour.

Eras Tour Opener, HAIM

The pop/rock trio and Swift debuted a live performance of their collaborative track, “No Body, No Crime.” The track appears on Taylor’s 2020 LP Evermore . Additionally, the “Anti-Hero” singer featured on HAIM’s 2021 track “Gasoline” from their third studio album, Women in Music Pt. III . In fact, HAIM will be accompanying Swift on the Eras Tour as the opening act for the remainder of the North American leg.

Prior, HAIM was the opener for Swift’s 1989 World Tour in 2015. Taylor and HAIM are not only supportive business partners but close friends, spending Birthdays, vacations and awards shows together.

The Story Behind The Sibling Pop/Rock Trio

HAIM proves siblings can in fact get along. HAIM sisters Este, Danielle and Alana cultivate their authentic sound by modernizing ’70s rock, ’80s synth pop, and ‘90’s R&B. With musicians in their bloodline, and an exceptional ear for music, HAIM was always destined for greatness. They play a multitude of instruments and have a gift for crafting hooks as well as songwriting.

Their 2013 debut album Days Are Gone saw rapid success in the U.K., peaking at number six on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. Critically-acclaimed hit singles “The Wire” and “Forever” introduced their diverse sound to a widespread audience.

However, HAIM would not unleash their sophomore album Something to Tell You until July 2017. The LP peaked at number two on the U.K. Albums Chart and single “Want You Back” at number ten on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. Additionally, the deluxe version arrived in December 2017. HAIM then would embark on another tour and make their Coachella debut in 2018.

On July 22 Taylor Swift invited HAIM as the special guests for her stop in Seattle on the Eras Tour.

HAIM’s Grammy-Nominated LP, “Women In Music Pt III”

Following, HAIM would release their third body of work Women in Music Pt. III . in 2021. The 2021 Grammys marked a career defining moment for the trio. HAIM became the first all-female rock band to receive a nomination for album of the year. The LP tackled extremely personal topics such as the loss of Alana’s best friend, Este’s to Type 1 Diabetes, Danielle’s post-tour depression and her partner’s cancer diagnosis. Besides that, the group titled the album Women in Music Pt. III . so interviewers would stop asking them what it’s like being a Woman in music.

Danielle states in an interview with People Magazine:

“I kept seeing that phrase, which I think is just a funny phrase in general and it’s tossed around a lot, but I kept seeing it on billboards, and I woke up laughing and I called my sisters and we were trying to figure out what the album was going to be called for a while. And it didn’t present itself until pretty late in the game. At first, we were like, “I don’t know, are people going to get it?” And we’re like, “You know what?” In the spirit of being spontaneous, it made us laugh and we thought it was funny because we got asked, “What’s it like to be a woman in music?” Or, “What’s it like to be women in music?” We had gotten that question every interview since 2012. So we thought, we think it’s funny: Maybe if we name our album that, people will get the picture not to ask the question. And it worked. And then also don’t ask any other woman what it’s like from now on.”

After that, the trailblazing trio released “Lost Track” in 2022 about feeling numb in the midst of an unfortunate situation.

“Tryin’ to get on top / But it’s never easy / Mastered my own luck / But it wasn’t easy / I’m tryin’ to feel alright / Around all these people / I try, but I’m just numb / This time.”

“Home” From ‘Barbie’ The Album

Most recently, HAIM appeared on track ten of the film soundtrack that has everyone tuned in: Barbie The Album . Produced by Rostam and Danielle Haim herself, “Home” is an alternative synth pop track. It’s self-reflection, finding peace after grueling times and accepting the uncertainty of the future. “Home is a symphony and it’s bittersweet when it’s callin’ me / Just another river deep, flowing to an ocean / I know that I may never know; the future, unpredictable / A hundred choices led me here, lessons learned with every tear.” HAIM has found inner confidence and self respect.

HAIM Is Back in the Studio for Album Four

Alli Patton

Updated:

The sister pop-rock trio HAIM is teasing their return to the studio on social media. Their fourth album could be coming sooner rather than later.

In a recent TikTok from the family ensemble , Este and Danielle Haim can be seen tugging their sister, Alana, through a doorway as she resists. “Please I’m a star,” she says through a lip-synced soundbite. The text over the footage reads, “When your sisters are making you get back in the studio but you were born to be an Oscar award-winning actress.”

Videos by American Songwriter

The text presumably refers to Alana’s starring role in the 2021 critically acclaimed film, Licorice Pizza , which received three Oscar nominations.

The TikTok is simply captioned, “Haim4.” Check out the clip below.

@haimtheband Haim4 ♬ original sound – A24

A new album would mark HAIM’s first since the release of their 2020 LP, Women in Music Pt III . It followed their 2017 sophomore release, Something To Tell You , and their 2013 debut, Days Are Gone .

Despite all being featured in Licorice Pizza in 2021, HAIM’s 2022 was arguably their biggest year to date. Last year saw the trio embark on an extensive headlining summer tour , appear in a Taylor Swift music video , and get recruited for the Midnights star’s upcoming The Eras tour.

HAIM will be included on select dates of Swift’s tour. Other stars enlisted for support on the trek include Paramore, GAYLE, Phoebe Bridgers, beabadoobee, Gracie Abrams, and many more.

Last year also bore witness to the group receiving lofty praise from famed rapper Drake when he called the trio “the Beatles” on Instagram . Drake posted a photo of him with the Sisters HAIM from their first meeting. He captioned the photo of the four of them, “Just met the Beatles.” In response, the L.A. siblings shared the same photo captioned, “We’re the Beatles.” See their post below.

Chechnya & Stalingrad Tour

print

As an extension or a standalone tour, this is a tour through some of the modern Russia’s most significant cities: Chechnya and Stalingrad!

Our first stop will be the Capital of the Chechen Republic, Grozny, once labelled as the most destroyed city on the planet after the vicious civil war which engulfed the republic for almost two decades. During that period, Chechnya was deemed as the most dangerous place on earth for a number of years. Today, it has seen the war brought to an end through the iron-fisted reign of the Kadyrov regime and a rebuilt Grozny has been called ‘the Dubai of the Caucasus’. We’ll be led by a local guide through this fascinating and often surreal city to try local Chechen food, visit the Kadyrov centre dedicated to the regime, ascend to the helipad of Grozny business centre, visit the local bazaars and much more!

After Chechnya, we’ll board a train north through the volatile republic of Dagestan to the site of the most brutal battle in human history and the turning point of WW2: Volgograd, formerly Stalingrad! After a relaxing day on the train, we’ll hit the ground running with a tour of this once-decimated city by visiting one of the world’s best WW2 museums with a whole host of relics. We’ll also descend into the former command bunker of Freidrich Von Paulus himself and visit the huge complex of Rodina Mat. The next day we’ll journey out to the Volga Don Canal and see where Operation Uranus sealed the fate of the German 6th Army, and also see an enormous Soviet monument commemorating the event. We’ll then visit the biggest statue of Vladimir Lenin on earth, enjoy lunch in a Soviet airplane and much more!

This tour is a standalone section of a longer tour, the individual portions of which can be seen below:

  • Transnistria National Day and Gagauzia Tour
  • Revolutionary Russia Tour
  • South Ossetia National Day Tour

Thursday 21st September – Vladikavkaz

  • Arrive at your convenience into Vladikavkaz – the capital city of North Ossetia with daily trains and flights from Moscow, and flights from Istanbul, Dubai and Baku
  • Pre-tour meeting will be held at the lobby of our hotel at 6:00pm to discuss tour itinerary and to meet your fellow travellers and YPT guide.
  • Dinner and overnight in Vladikavkaz

Friday 22nd September – Grozny Morning

  • After breakfast we’ll meet our driver and depart for the 2 hour drive through Ingushetia to the republic of Chechnya, formerly the most dangerous place on the planet. The security situation has now stabilized there and it’s safe to travel.
  • After checking into our hotel and grouping up we’ll meet our local Chechen guide and head for a traditional lunch before exploring the city.
  • We’ll start at the bottom of Vladimir Putin boulevard and explore the Kadyrov museum; complete with a tank and gold plated monument outside, it’s dedicated to the family of the ruling regime here, and it really is a sight to behold!
  • We’ll then walk down the main avenue and see the press house, site of the most recent attack on the city by Islamic insurgents.
  • We’ll explore the bustling Chechen bazaar and buy some souvenirs before heading to the Akhmat Kadyrov mosque, one of the biggest mosques in the region.
  • We’ll then ascend to the helipad of Grozny business plaza for a birds eye view of the city once called ‘’the most destroyed city on earth’’ by the UN in the 1990s.
  • We’ll enjoy a traditional Chechen dinner of Zhig Zhig Galnash (a sorta garlicky beef stew with boiled dumplings).
  • Overnight in Grozny.

Saturday 23rd September – Grozny – Train

  • We’ll have an early start for our train to Volgograd and settle into our Soviet-era transport for the day.
  • Day on the train with lunch and dinner to be obtained on the platforms at various breaks in the journey.
  • Overnight on the train.

Sunday 24th September – Volgograd Morning

  • We’ll arrive in Volgograd in the morning and head to our nearby hotel to check in.
  • After a short rest we’ll head out and explore the city that was the site of the most brutal battle mankind has ever witnessed.
  • Our first stop will be the WW2 Museum, arguably one of the best in the world. In the museum complex, amongst a mass of tanks and weaponry, is the former grain mill that was a fierce fighting position during the battle of Stalingrad and it still bears countless scars of war.
  • We’ll see Pavlov’s house — a fortified apartment complex that a Red Army platoon held for over 60 days during a heavy Wehrmacht offensive. The house is named for the commander of the platoon, Yakov Pavlov.
  • Explore the interior of the WW2 Museum, featuring countless artifacts including the sniper rifle of Vasily Zaitsev, the Sword of Coventry and an impressive 3D panorama of the Battle of Stalingrad to give you an idea of the different points where the battle raged.
  • We’ll then visit the nearby Lenin statue with a mural of the defenders of Stalingrad behind before visiting the stunning Volgograd Planetarium featuring stunning Soviet-era architecture, a gold mosaic of Stalin and a huge bust of Yuri Gagarin.
  • Lunch in a Soviet-era InTourist restaurant
  • We’ll then divert down a nondescript side street next to a derelict supermarket; below here is the former command bunker of General of the 6th Army: Von Paulus. It was from here that he commanded German troops during the battle and was received news of the betrayal by Hitler. It is now an incredible museum which we’ll explore thoroughly.
  • After the bunker, we’ll check out the craft beers of Volgograd in an underground bar that still bears the scars of WW2 on some of the walls.
  • Dinner and overnight in Volgograd.

Monday 25th September – Volgograd Morning

  • After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll meet our driver for the 1.5 hour drive out into the rural Volga Region. We’ll visit the Volga-Don Canal and see the mind blowing ‘Meeting of the Fronts’ memorial. It was at this point, during the infamous Operation Uranus, that two Soviet Fronts surrounded the German forces at Stalingrad and formed a ring of steel that began to rapidly close and inevitably destroy the German 6th Army, arguably the turning point of WW2.
  • After exploring the monument, we’ll then check out the stunning park on the banks of the Volga featuring many Soviet monuments to Young Pioneers, Cosmonauts, WW2 heroes and even billboards to global Communists from the DDR to North Korea!
  • We’ll check out Lenin in the village before returning to the outer ring of Volgograd to see a real trip highlight: none other than the biggest statue of Vladimir Lenin on the Planet! Standing over the mighty Volga at over 57 metres, this is the biggest monument to a human being ever created and has to be seen to be believed. A slightly smaller monument to Stalin formerly stood here, but was torn down in the 1950s.
  • After this we’ll have a lunch stop at a very interesting spot: an Armenian restaurant built into a former Aeroflot YAK 40!
  • We’ll then head to a monument of a T-34 battle tank that took part in the battle for Stalingrad.
  • We’ll then see the Kazansky cathedral, One of the few churches to survive the Russian revolution, it was heavily damaged during the battle of Stalingrad and was even used in the early days by Nazi troops to hold a mass to celebrate a presumed quick victory that would thankfully never come.
  • The day will culminate in arguably one of the most important WW2 battlefields in existence, the infamous hill of Mamayev Kurgan.
  • We’ll explore the complex in depth and take in its mass of awe-inspiring Soviet monuments, all loomed over by the enormous Rodina Mat — the tallest statue of a woman in the world.
  • Explore the small but well-done Stalin Museum dedicated to the infamous Soviet leader.
  • We’ll then have coffee in the adjoining WW2-themed cafe with a giant portrait of Stalin looming over you, and the option to dress up as a Red Army soldier whilst you dine!
  • Returning to Central Volgograd, we’ll stop at the city courthouse, which is a prime example of Soviet Brutalist architecture featuring an impressive relief of Marx, Engels and Lenin bordered with a giant hammer and sickle and a Young Pioneer flame.
  • Evening meal at a very good local steakhouse restaurant in the city.
  • Overnight in Volgograd

Tuesday 26th September

  • Breakfast at hotel

Visiting Russia - Grozny, Capital of Chechnya

By Koryo Tours

Grozny, Capital of Chechnya

Visiting Russia – Grozny

Yoshkar-ola | cheboksary  |  astrakhan | elista | stalingrad (volograd)  | abakan  |  nalchik  | validkavkaz  | makhachkala  .

Grozny, the capital city of Chechnya, and situated right in the centre of this republic.

A city of over a quarter of a million people these days (far lower than the 400,000 counted in 1989) and a city famous mostly for having been destroyed in two violent conflicts since the end of the Soviet Union, what are known generally as the first and second Chechen Wars.

Starting life as a Russian fort from 1818 the Russians vs Chechens history of Grozny began immediately. It took decades for the Caucasus to be pacified by Imperial soldiers and finally Grozny became a city in its own right, growing fast, especially when oil was discovered here. Grozny was of such vital importance to Russia that it was seized by the Bolsheviks only a day after the October Revolution in 1917, the civil war raged here and everywhere and various states, republics, soviets and such came into existence and disappeared rapidly over the next few years even after control was consolidated by the victorious Reds. During WWII this was a major target for the Germans, with oil being as valuable then as it is now. The Wehrmacht fell short though, and Grozny remained unoccupied, but seeing conspiracies and treachery everywhere Stalin deported the entire Chechen nation into Central Asia – nearly a million people of which around 200,000 or so are believed to have been ‘liquidated’ prior to transport, or died along the way. A staggering and tragic toll in a horribly dark period. It was 1957 before anyone was allowed to return and when they got back there were the predictable ethnic tensions between returnees and those who had moved there in the meantime, something that simply never really went away again. After the collapse of the USSR system independence was declared and many Russians left the area (which had been a trend in many of the peripheries of the USSR already). War raged in 1994-96, and then again in 1999-2002. With not just regular fighting but also reports of atrocities, terrorism, all kinds of utter nastiness going on. Finally, Russia was victorious and many senior leaders of the independence movement came round the Putin way of thinking. Those who did not do so fled abroad or were killed in action. Akhmad Kadyrov became the first President, formerly a major advocate of independence and now a loyal regional leader, he was blown up in 2003 while reviewing a WWII Victory Day parade. His son, Ramzan Kadyrov succeeded him and since then has put forward the image of a tough and uncompromising leader, Regularly delivering more than 100% of the votes in Chechnya for Putin’s United Russia Party, appearing on Social media with his cats, inspiring the young men of Chechnya in physical fitness and hair & beard styles (almost everyone seems to model themselves tonsorially after Kadyrov), he is a major figure in the region and likely to remain in power for a long time. The kind of man and leader that the term ‘Strongman’ very much applies to. Modern Grozny is a very modern place, the city was flattened by Russian weapons and built from the ground up. Not here the cracked pavements of the rest of Russia. Here everything is clean, everything is tidy, little doesn’t exist, its all very pristine in general. There are police everywhere, various different layers of them (Federal, Republic, City, the ‘ninja’s of Kadyrov’s praetorian guard) and all of them are armed to the teeth all the time it seems. You can see traffic police directing cars while wearing an AK-47. It is fair to call Chechnya a conservative place, how this manifests for visitors is that it can be disconcerting to see so many armed men in uniform, so many people with the same hairstyle looking a bit tough, women almost universally covered up, and to find yourself in a very macho culture. Visitors are not expected to become locals, but bear in mind people’s sensitivities when it comes to things such as alcohol and religion. Also there is a general and institutional hostility to homosexuality (or any kind of sexuality seen as unconventional in Chechnya). There have been credible reports of state persecution against gay people, President Kadyrov has come out with some genuinely disturbing statements making his position clear. This is something that any LGBTQ+ visitors should know about and take into account when planning a visit in this region. Chechnya is by far the most intolerant of the republics and regions in this area.

A note on drinking – Chechnya is not very alcohol tolerant at all. It is a largely dry republic but as it is within the Russian Federation it is not illegal to take alcohol into Chechnya at all. Drinking in public is not allowed though. There are a handful of shops in Grozny that are allowed to sell beer for an hour or so in the morning, these are known as “Armenian” shops, you could try to find them. There is also one solitary restaurant that serves alcohol. It is the ‘Cupol’ Restaurant on the top floor (in the Cupola, hence the name) of the main building in the Grozny City Towers complex. The food here is very good, it is not overly expensive either. No alcohol at all is served during Ramadan, anywhere.

Grozny

Arriving/Departing

Grozny Airport (GRV) is a modern building, the older one being occupied during the first Chechen War and severely damaged at that time. Around 10km to the north of the city and easily reached on a decent highway. These days there are flights from a range of smaller not-so-famous airlines (Azimuth, Onur Air, Avivia Air, anyone?) to some major cities in Russia as well as to Istanbul, the UAE, and Tajikistan too. Grozny is not very far from either Vladikavkaz or Makhachkala so arriving at one of their airports and then taking a ride for a few hours in a bus, marshrutka, or even a taxi are other options.

There is the main railway station, south of the centre, trains across the North Caucasus as expected.

Also the roads linking the city to the other regional centres are pretty good so those make for reasonable options as all. Within the city there used to be an extensive tram network but years of war and bombing have left this a tiny rump system, usually people will move around by bus, marshrutka, or simply driving. Grozny is not massive but it is somewhat spread out so some long walks from end to end take longer than they would in some of the older, more condensed, cities in this region.

Heart of Chechnya Mosque

In the heart of the city sits this very impressive and ornate structure. One of the largest mosques in Russia and a very peaceful and pretty place indeed. Officially called the Akhmat Kadyrov Mosque (after the former President) this is universally known as the Heart of Chechnya Mosque.

Built in the Ottoman style, after the Sultan Ahmad Mosque in Istanbul, there is space for up to 10,000 worshippers at once, and visitors can also attend. For non-Muslims it is best to visit not during prayer time and also be aware that a dress code far stricter than most mosques in actual Islamic Republics is in place for women; no hair at all must be shown, tight clothes not allowed, jeans not allowed, etc. Basically they will lend you a formless hideous grandmotherly smock to wear when you visit, just accept it as part of the adventure! This dress issue holds true for most large mosques in Chechnya in general.

Akhmat Tower

Not finished, and not clear when it will be finished (at the time of writing). This is designed to be the tallest building in Europe. A multi-purpose 435m tower, looking very metallic and phallic all at once. Keep an eye on the news for updates on this monster that will tower over everything else in the entire region!

National Museum of Chechnya

Built to look like a domed fortress with traditional Caucasian towers at the corners this museum gives a great introduction to the history and ethnography of Chechnya. It is widely claimed in this republic that Chechens are the real natives of the Caucasus with all of the myriad other groups basically being descended from some arriviste group or another (Persians, Azeris, Tatars, etc) and this somewhat pseudo-historical claim does tend to resonate somewhat.

This museum doesn’t base itself around this though and is a worthy place to visit for anyone looking for more than just brand new buildings and to be somewhere with the hint of recent wars and violence.

Museum of Akhmat Kadyrov

A memorial and museum to the father of the current President. While only technically in power for a short time before his murder Kadyrov was a dominant figure in the path of the Chechen state from independence-focused to a very loyal part of the Russian Federation (hence his assassination). This place gives a potted history, it is partisan of course, but very interesting.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin Boulevard

The main street of modern Grozny. With a European style promenade in the middle, and lined with new buildings and decent roads. Here you can find cafes, boutiques, no bars, but plenty of restaurants. The new Grozny personified in one street. It does say something about the scale of the Russian victory in the Chechen wars perhaps that the street carries the name of V. V. Putin, but the compromises necessary for this formerly-unthinkable thing to have occurred have also brought peace to a very troubled place. So walk on Putin Blvd and enjoy something that wouldn’t have been advisable or even possible even just 20 or 25 years ago.
