G20 endorses ‘Goa Roadmap’, ‘Travel for LiFE’ program to boost tourism

travel for life g20

The G20 Leaders’ Summit in Delhi stands as a testament to India’s leadership in fostering global unity and collaboration. The summit witnessed the convergence of the world’s most influential leaders, united by a shared vision for the future. Their collective commitment to addressing global challenges reaffirms the spirit of global cooperation.

A significant milestone achieved during the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Delhi was the unanimous endorsement of tourism and culture’s pivotal role in sustainable socio-economic development and prosperity. The ‘G20 Leaders Declaration’ adopted during the summit underlined the significance of the ‘Goa Roadmap for Tourism as a vehicle for achieving SDGs.

Delhi Declaration provides a new direction for the tourism sector with the G20 Goa Roadmap outlining the challenges, objectives, opportunities and recommendations for the tourism sector to achieve sustainable development goals.

‘GOA Roadmap’, the key deliverable of India’s G20 Tourism Track, is a pioneering initiative that provides a blueprint for sustainable global tourism. The Goa Roadmap, aligned with the theme of India’s G20 Presidency, underscores the role of tourism in society, the economy, and environmental stewardship.

By focusing on the five interconnected priorities identified and endorsed by the G20 Tourism Working Group – Green Tourism, Digitalization, Skills, Tourism MSMEs, and Destination Management – the roadmap offers a comprehensive strategy for nations to align their tourism policies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

In furtherance of our commitment, the Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), has launched the G20 Tourism and SDG Dashboard. This pioneering initiative will serve as a global repository, showcasing the best practices and case studies of sustainable tourism practices and policies from G20 nations. It aims to be a comprehensive resource, aiding nations and industry stakeholders in their journey towards achieving the SDGs through tourism.

As we move forward, the Ministry of Tourism aims to facilitate the implementation of the GOA Roadmap through education and awareness campaigns to sensitize the State/UT Governments and private stakeholders about incorporating key recommended actions in their operations for the creation of more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive tourism.

The Ministry of Tourism is also launching a national competition on ‘Tourism for Tomorrow’ to identify best practices and case studies aligned with five priorities of the G20 Goa roadmap, which have successfully been implemented by States, Destinations and Industry Stakeholders, and can be replicated and scaled up across the country. The competition will be launched on World Tourism Day on September 27.

In another significant development, the G20 leaders’ declaration has further noted the launch of the “Travel for LiFE” initiative, emphasizing its transformative potential in promoting responsible and sustainable tourism.

Travel for LiFE program has been inspired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which is extremely relevant for tourism sector. Travel for LiFE nudges all tourists and tourist businesses to take simple actions, which have tremendous significance for environment protection and climate action.

Ministry of Tourism has aligned its programs and initiatives for promoting sustainable tourism under ‘Travel for LiFE’ program and the campaign will cover the entire tourism ecosystem, motivating and inspiring all actors to contribute in making the tourism sector sustainable and responsible. While recognizing the LiFE actions by tourists, the Ministry will also recognize the tourism businesses as TFL-certified based on the STCI criteria of the Ministry. It will also encourage the tourists and tourism businesses to take a “Travel for LiFE’ pledge, which will reflect their commitment to sustainable practices.

Ministry of Tourism is championing a future that is greener, cleaner, and harmonious. It is our mission to ensure that growth is not just robust but also just, equitable, and sustainable for every individual.

The Ministry of Tourism also envisions transforming and promoting the host cities of the G20 Meetings in India into global MICE destinations for national and international meetings. Our commitment is unwavering, and our resolve is strong. We are poised to lead the way in fostering sustainable tourism practices that will echo across the world for years to come.

'Travel for LiFE': G20 principle on lifestyles for sustainable development

G20 Summit: “We support the creation of an enabling policy environment to promote sustainable lifestyles for climate action. To achieve it, we commit to implement the G20 High-Level Principles (HLPs) on lifestyles for sustainable development,” the Delhi declaration said.

'Travel for LiFE': G20 principle on lifestyles for sustainable development

Following the G20 high-level principles on lifestyles for sustainable development, the Delhi declaration said that it is committed to robust collective actions that will enable the world to embrace sustainable production and consumption patterns and mainstream lifestyles for sustainable development.

Several studies have revealed that a lifestyle approach could contribute to significant emission reduction by 2030 for a global net-zero future.

“We support the creation of an enabling policy environment to promote sustainable lifestyles for climate action. To achieve it, we commit to implement the G20 High-Level Principles (HLPs) on lifestyles for sustainable development,” the Delhi declaration said.

“To implement the HLPs through international cooperation, financial support, and development, deployment and dissemination of technology, we encourage international organizations to incorporate it into their programs. The launch of “Travel for LiFE” and support the development of smart destinations that are responsible and sustainable,” it said.

Further in order to ensure the prosperity and well-being of present and future generations which largely depends on current development and other policies, the G20 group will pursue environmentally sustainable and inclusive economic growth and development in an integrated, holistic and balanced manner.

“We commit to urgently accelerate our actions to address environmental crises and challenges including climate change. We recognize that the impacts of climate change are being experienced worldwide, particularly by the poorest and the most vulnerable,” the G20 Delhi declaration stated.

In pursuit of the objective of UNFCCC, to tackle climate change by strengthening the full and effective implementation of the Paris agreement and its temperature goal, reflecting equity and the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities, in light of different national circumstances, it said.

“The global ambition and implementation to address climate change remain insufficient to achieve the temperature goal of the Paris Agreement to hold the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C above preindustrial levels and pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Noting the IPCC assessments, that the impacts of climate change will be much lower at a temperature increase of 1.5°C compared with 2°C, we reiterate our resolve to pursue further efforts to limit the increase to 1.5°C,” it said.

“We recognize that limiting global warming to 1.5°C requires rapid, deep and sustained reductions in global GHG emissions of 43% by 2030 relative to the 2019 levels. We also take note of the finding of the IPCC AR6 Synthesis Report, based on global modelled pathways and assumptions, stating that “Global GHG emissions are projected to peak between 2020 and at the latest before 2025 in global modelled pathways that limit warming to 1.5°C with no or limited overshoot and in those that limit warming to 2°C and assume immediate action,” it added.

**“**We commit to enhance environmentally sound waste management, substantially reduce waste generation by 2030, and highlight the importance of zero waste initiatives,” it added.

G20 endorses 'Goa Roadmap' and 'Travel for LiFE' program to revitalize tourism sector

The G20 Leaders' Summit held in Delhi culminated in a resounding endorsement of the 'Goa Roadmap' and the 'Travel for LiFE' program, propelling India to the forefront of sustainable tourism initiatives. The summit brought together global leaders, united by a common vision for a better world and emphasizing the pivotal role of tourism and culture in sustainable socio-economic development, read the Ministry of Tourism press release.

An achievement during the G20 Leaders' Summit was the unanimous endorsement of tourism and culture as catalysts for sustainable socio-economic development and prosperity. The 'G20 Leaders Declaration,' adopted during the summit, emphasized the significance of the 'Goa Roadmap for Tourism' in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), read the press release.

The 'Goa Roadmap,' a flagship initiative of India's G20 Tourism Track, serves as a groundbreaking blueprint for global sustainable tourism. Aligned with the theme of India's G20 Presidency, it underscores the role of tourism in society, the economy, and environmental stewardship, read the press release. The roadmap addresses five interconnected priorities identified by the G20 Tourism Working Group: Green Tourism, Digitalization, Skills, Tourism MSMEs, and Destination Management.

It offers a comprehensive strategy for nations to align their tourism policies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030. To facilitate the roadmap's implementation, the Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), has launched the G20 Tourism and SDG Dashboard.

This initiative will serve as a global repository, showcasing best practices and case studies of sustainable tourism practices and policies from G20 nations, aiding nations and industry stakeholders in their journey towards achieving the SDGs through tourism. The Ministry of Tourism plans to foster the implementation of the 'Goa Roadmap' through education and awareness campaigns.

These efforts aim to sensitize state and union territory governments and private stakeholders about incorporating recommended actions into their operations, fostering sustainable, resilient, and inclusive tourism, read the release. In an effort to recognize and propagate best practices aligned with the 'Goa Roadmap,' the Ministry of Tourism is launching a national competition on 'Tourism for Tomorrow.'

This competition, scheduled to be launched on World Tourism Day on September 27, will identify and promote successful initiatives that can be replicated and scaled up across the country, read the release. Another noteworthy development is the launch of the "Travel for LiFE" initiative, inspired by the Prime Minister's vision of LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).

This initiative encourages tourists and tourist businesses to take simple yet impactful actions for environmental protection and climate action, aligning with the 'Travel for LiFE' program's goal of promoting responsible and sustainable tourism, read the release. The Ministry of Tourism envisions a greener, cleaner, and more harmonious future, ensuring robust, equitable, and sustainable growth for all. They are committed to transforming host cities of the G20 Meetings in India into global MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destinations for national and international meetings, read the release.

With unwavering dedication, the Ministry is poised to lead the way in fostering sustainable tourism practices that will resonate across the world for years to come. (ANI)

World Economy’s Great Escape Is No Comfort to the G-20

  • Finance ministers and central bankers gather in Washington
  • UK inflation and wages, Chinese GDP among data highlights

If the world economy is heading for a soft landing there’ll be plenty of anxiety along the way, with Iran’s missile attack on Israel putting an exclamation point on global jitters.

As the world’s financial elite gather in Washington for meetings of the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and Group of 20, they’ll confront a mixture of slowing growth, stubborn inflation, high interest rates and debt levels, and market-rattling geopolitical risks from Kyiv to Tel Aviv .

G20 Economies Adjusting to Delays in Fed Rate Cut, Brazil's Finance Chief Says

By Marcela Ayres

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -G20 finance ministers and central bank governors are adjusting to expectations for a later start to U.S. interest rate cuts, which has caused a worldwide asset repricing and increased the urgency for debates on debt, Brazil's finance leaders said on Thursday.

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad told a press conference after a Group of 20 finance leaders meeting in Washington that the shift in expectations following higher-than-expected March inflation readings in the U.S. has subdued sentiment about various economic variables, including a global repricing of assets.

Haddad also noted that the U.S. central bank's communication has not been cohesive, following widespread expectations that rate cuts in the world's largest economy would begin in the first half of this year.

"When the March (inflation data) scare came, there was a drastic reversal of expectations, and this changed the mood significantly regarding how economic variables will behave worldwide," he said.

"Everything else depends somewhat on this."

Speaking at the same news conference, which took place during the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, Brazilian central bank chief Roberto Campos Neto said the scenario has led to the strengthening of the U.S. dollar, which is "always a problem" that can provoke reactions from policymakers.

Nevertheless, he noted that Brazil's debt is less affected by this development than other countries, and Brazil's central bank only intervenes in the foreign exchange market in case of malfunctioning.

Campos Neto said it was necessary to wait and be cautious in the face of expectations that the Fed could keep U.S. interest rates at a high level for a longer period.

"Depending on the path (that unfolds), we will have a reaction function, I cannot anticipate what will happen," he said, when asked if he had abandoned the forward guidance previously given of another 50-basis-point interest rate cut at the Brazilian central bank's next policy meeting in May.

Haddad also noted that many G20 countries have dollar-denominated debt that is affected by changes in U.S. interest rates, which increases the urgency of discussions for potential restructuring and assistance to nations.

"All of this will need to be done with greater speed, greater agility, and perhaps new sources of funding," he said. "There have been discussions about new contributions to countries, especially for concessional loans ... at a time when interest rates make debt servicing unaffordable."

He’s no longer pleading the fifth.

A travel expert is sharing his hack for cheaper airfares, saying fifth freedom flights can often offer more bang for your buck.

Kyle Potter, who serves as executive editor of Thrifty Traveler, spilled the secret in an interview with Travel + Leisure, saying: “Fifth freedom routes open up the airline world just a little bit more to all of us.”

A fifth freedom flight is a route in which a carrier from a specific country flies passengers between two other nations not linked to their home base.

For instance, Emirates is based out of United Arab Emirates, but offers fifth freedom flights between the US and Italy, as well as Spain and Mexico.

In another example, Qantas, based out of Australia, operates a fifth freedom flight from New Zealand to the US.

One frequent flyer website offers a full list of airlines and available fifth freedom flights.

Emirates is based out of United Arab Emirates, but offers fifth freedom flights between the US and Italy,

According to Condé Nast Traveler, fifth freedom flights are often cheaper because they’re connecting flights, meaning there may be more empty seats on one of the legs for the carrier to fill.

Additionally, the planes are often “much nicer” than the ones flown by local airlines.

“These routes can sometimes be flown by much nicer (and bigger) planes than local airlines might offer since these routes are usually extensions of another long-haul flight,” the publication explained, saying there may also be “better food and more comfortable seats.”

Qantas, based out of Australia, operates a fifth freedom flight from New Zealand to the US.

Additionally, fifth freedom flights sometimes offer extra points and upgrades.

“To help fill seats on shorter sectors with less demand, airlines release more award availability — which helps them cover the operating cost of adding these additional fifth freedom stops,” Condé Nast Traveler declared.

Potter agrees, saying: “For travelers with credit card points and airline miles, the upside is even bigger.”

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

7-day Moscow itinerary

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

Read Next: Things To Do on Socotra

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

travel itinerary for one week in Moscow

How to Get a Decent Haircut in a Foreign Country

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

exploring Moscow

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Moscow sights

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

top things to do in Moscow

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

one week Moscow itinerary

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

12 Stunning National Parks and Regional Parks In France

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

things to do in Moscow in seven days

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!

Never been to Moscow or Russia but my family has. Many great spots and a lot of culture. Your itinerary sounds fantastic and covers a lot despite it is only a short period of time.

I know very little about Moscow or Russia for the\at matter. I do know I would have to see the Red Square and all of its exquisite architectural masterpieces. Also the CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE SAVIOUR. Thanks for shedding some light on visiting Moscow.

Thanks for swinging by! The Red Square is a great starting point, but there way too many places and things to discover aside from it!

If you lie to this Disney program, you will be banned from the parks for life

travel for life g20

Walt Disney World and Disneyland recently updated their policies for guests with disabilities , and those who lie and misuse the program will be banned for life.

The two resorts announced changes to their Disability Access Service (DAS) last week to keep up with the rapidly growing number of requests and continue to accommodate those who truly need it. Requests for DAS have tripled over the past five years.

As the most popular service, DAS helps those with disabilities and their families have an enjoyable experience at the parks.

The program is intended to assist a “small percentage” of “guests, who due to a developmental disability like autism or similar, are unable to wait in a conventional queue for an extended period of time,” according to the DAS website .

Need accomodations? Travelers with disabilities need this card for accommodations at some theme parks

To qualify for DAS, Disney does not require any proof of disability or access needs.

However, if any of the statements a guest has made during the DAS enrollment process are found to be false, the guest will be “permanently barred from entering” Walt Disney World and Disneyland, the website said. Any Annual Passes, Magic Key passes, tickets or other park products will also be forfeited and not refunded.

Although DAS was recently updated, this policy has been in place for a while.

Once enrolled, guests can go to an attraction, request a return time, and wait somewhere else until it’s time to redeem their return time.

To qualify and enroll in DAS, guests need to do a virtual video meeting with a specially trained cast member – previously, this was possible to do in-person – to “determine what services may be appropriate to support their visit to the theme parks, including DAS,” according to the website.
